Tooru Oikawa:
“I’m totally and completely over you.”
That’s how the message starts.
Part of you wonders if you missed something, or accidentally skipped ahead. It’s so immediate, like Oikawa could barely wait for the beep before tearing into you. Like he needed to spit poison the second he had the chance.
And it’s one of those biting remarks that he wants to let fester—for a while, evidently; he doesn’t say anything else for another five minutes.
All that follows is a loud thud, like he’s thrown the phone away from him. And then footsteps, like he’s pacing, pacing, pacing back and forth, trying to think of more scathing words by burning holes into his carpet.
You hit a point where you think you should delete the message, maybe try and not care about whatever else he may or may not say after waiting for so long. You nibble on your nails and tug at the snarls in your hair. You pick four pieces of lint off your sweatshirt and seventeen more off the blanket draped over your lap, and you know how many there are because you line them up and count them afterwards as you wait, anxious, listening to your ex-boyfriend’s panting.
But a small rustle stirs at that five-minute mark, right against your ear. And a sniffle.
“Fine.” Oikawa’s voice cracks. “You win.”
You suck in a breath.
“What do you wanna hear? That I miss you?” He sniffles again, then scoffs bitterly. “That I miss you so fucking much I can’t sleep at night? That my bed is so fucking cold now I can’t even stomach sleeping in it? That every girl I see I automatically compare to you because I have to—I just fucking have to, all because she’s not you. And it makes me sick.”
His chuckle is sour and crackles harshly into your eardrum. “Am I stroking your ego enough, sweetheart? Because you win. You fucking win.
“I want you back.”
He sighs, and it sounds like he’s rubbing his forehead.
“I need you back.”
More beats pass in the silence. More sniffles, too, but stretched out, like he’s trying to steady his breathing.
You don’t think it’s helping him any. As you wipe the cuffs of your sweatshirt underneath your eyes, his voice returns, thoroughly raw and wounded. It squeaks out of him, barely above a whisper. His voice is so loud and tender, like he’s cradling the phone against his cheek.
Your hand against his warm cheek, curled over that pink skin, fingertips inches away from brushing through those soft strands, wiping tears. That’s what you wish it was.
“I didn’t know…”
A shaky breath. You hold yours in return.
“I didn’t know anything could hurt this bad.”
He swallows thickly.
“Those last few moments after you left—I thought that would be the worst of it. When you just walked out. And I keep seeing you do it, over and over and over, in my head like I can’t help but torture myself with it.
“I never knew it would get so much fucking worse.”
He whimpers a little, and your heart constricts unbearably. You tear at the damn thing buried underneath your sweatshirt, massaging the skin like it can soothe that phantom ache.
Oikawa must hate you. Maybe he hates you like you hate him: not because of the breakup, but because you can go for weeks without seeing him, holding him, kissing him, and everything still hurts like that last time.
“Thing is, I could’ve sworn you weren’t always in my life. It’s been two years. Only two years. And yet I can’t remember a damn thing before us. It feels like it was always us. Some fog, and then you, and then everything afterwards. Everything that was us.”
“And I hate that we had it so good, YN. I really do. Because missing you has been the worst thing that’s ever happened to me.”
The frustration in his voice is familiar, a sickening sense of deja vu around it, and you latch a hand over your mouth at how vividly the image comes to you: Oikawa tearing his fingers through his hair, teeth gritted, cheeks flushed and shiny. Like when he lost a game, but different somehow.
Like this was something he didn’t even know he could lose.
He’s crumbling in a way he doesn’t know how to stop. That ugly part about having something wonderful and new—the moment it’s gone, what the hell are you supposed to do then?
“I just—Goddamnit, I can’t stand how badly it hurts anymore. I can’t,” he cries, desperate and aching, like his hand is fisting at his heart. You can hear the breath hitching in his throat, the hiccuping breaths after his sobs. You can hear every tear, feel it against your own cheeks, a soreness building at the front of your skull.
Too many tears. Your body is screaming at you, too many fucking tears.
But it’s him and he was yours and you were his.
Were.
You were his.
You had no idea how much that single thought could make your entire chest throb.
Oikawa inhales, and it makes your heart race against the thick wall caging it in, squeezing against it.
“I need to see you.”
He says the thought like it’s just slapped him across the face.
“I need to go see you, I—I have to.”
He mumbles to himself unsteadily, like he’s rocking back and forth. Debating, really, what he’s supposed to do, if he should do it at all, if it’s right after everything.
You should probably think he’s wrong.
You probably shouldn’t be curled over your phone, eyes wide, mouth open, not making a fucking peep. Waiting to hear what he’s going to do.
Maybe—just maybe—you shouldn’t be telling yourself that as the voicemail counts down to its final seconds, if he decides he’s not going to go to you, that you’ll definitely be going to him.
“I can’t just sit here. I can’t stay in here, without you. This isn’t right, I—”
Your breath hitches when you hear the frantic jingle of keys.
Then the sound of a door slamming.
His footsteps racing down his apartment’s stairwell.
A car engine revving.
“I need to see you.”
And the voicemail ends.

Satori Tendou:
The message begins with a scoff of utter disbelief.
“Is that what we’re doing now?”
He pauses, almost like he thinks you’re going to respond.
“Heard from someone that I suddenly have syphilis. Yesterday, I had herpes though, so I guess I’m gonna have a tough week.”
A rustle like he’d shaking his head, like he can’t fucking believe it.
“And sure, okay, I figured that’s fine. You can say all that shit, and it won’t really stick because everyone knows it was us and that it’s you and you’re hurt.”
He sighs.
“But I saw it, sweetheart. I saw it.” The phone whines like he’s adjusting it against his face, and his voice is suddenly lower, darker.
“You don’t get to have it both ways, you know. You can’t spread all that shit—all those rumors about how shitty everything was and how we didn’t have anything going for us—and then turn around two days later wearing my sweatshirt. And you don’t get to wear that necklace I gave you for our anniversary and then run away from me the second you see me. That’s just not fair—you’re not playing fair anymore.”
Something swishes around like loose clothing, and a large huff greets your ear from what must be Tendou collapsing into a seat. When his little sounds become quieter, that relentless humming and the excitable clicks of his tongue against his teeth, you figure he must have put the phone on speaker and balanced it on his knee like he always did. Mid-conversation with Ushiwaka, he always used to spin his phone with those long fingers, or bounce the damn thing up and down against his frantic leg.
And the voicemail came through late last night, one of those dead hours where the only ones awake were Tendou, his scrambling thoughts, and the moths flitting back and forth outside his glowing window. He was always awake, always thinking, always doing something.
When you’d first broken up, after one long, wrenching fight where you’d both lost your voices and the frustration welled so high you just couldn’t breathe anymore, you’d been thankful for the idea of sleeping soundly for the first time in months.
You’d been wrong. You weren’t even sleeping anymore; just long, slow blinks where your phone screen would magically turn from 3:45 a.m. to 7:25 a.m., and in five minutes you’d have to get up and slug your way through another day.
Tendou had been the same. Those naturally wide eyes sagged under the pressure, and the curve of his spine had deepened like he’d been hauling the lack of sleep everywhere he went.
He must be sitting at his window now, at this moment in his message, pale skin aglow with wispy tendrils of moon. And he’s calling you. And he saw everything you’d done.
“Not fair. Not fair at all,” he whines, teasing. Always, always teasing, and if you hadn’t heard the slight cripple in his voice on the last word, you’d have gone on thinking he viewed it as one big joke.
You’re sure he heard the same thing you had—that he couldn’t keep acting like it was all fun and games. His usual, cat-like smile surely fell into a pert little frown, pale lips twisting like he’d sucked on a lemon.
No fun, no fun, no fun, he must have been thinking.
“Ya see, I thought we had a little deal,” Tendou drawls. “You’d talk smack and start dressing all pretty just to spite me, and then–and then I’d go ahead and delete all your pictures and put your name as ‘Bitch’ in my phone. And in, like, two weeks, we’d just be two ships, whoosh, whoosh, passing each other on the high seas of life, ya know?”
He breathes a ghost of a laugh.
“But, sweetheart, you look like shit.” He chuckles for real this time, and it’s disgustingly hollow. “I’m not even kidding. Like someone ran you over three times every morning—it’s horrible, really.”
You curl into yourself even further, and you’re smiling, grinning, lips peeling with how much you’ve cried and how little water you’ve drank after. You hate him; God, you hate how he can make you laugh and cry at the same time.
“But that’s okay, I’ll give you a pass just this once. I haven’t deleted your pictures yet, so I botched my end of the deal, too.” Tendou tsks his tongue.
“I won’t go easy on you, though. Here–here, how’s about this: for every day you stop wearing my clothes—because they look horrible on you, sweetheart; really, you’re painful to watch—I’ll delete one of your pictures, eh? That means, in about–uhhdivideby365daysinayearignoringleapyearbullshit–ah, seven years, I’ll have held up my end. S’that good with you?”
You lean your head back, letting the tears flood your hair as he chuckles to himself.
“Fuck it,” he says after a pause. Hopeless. Breathless. “Fuck it.” He must be gnawing on that pale lower lip, biting and nibbling until it bleeds. Because he lets something go to sigh again, and he must have smacked his head against the wall, and then you think he sniffled.
“I still want you. I’ve always wanted you. And I’m tired of missing you and wanting you. Doing both hurts too much.”
Tendou soughs.
“So I’m still your Chicken Tendy, baby. Always. And I’ll be here when you're ready, syphilis and all.”

PRESAGE | CHAPTER TWO
Tumblr media
Characters: Ushijima Wakatoshi x Female Reader
Genre: Angst
Warnings: Angst?
Author’s note: I feel like I should make a masterlist. Lmk what you guys think.
Tumblr media
5 year later…
Five years had passed since the graduation, and Ushijima had become a household name in the world of volleyball. As a key player for the Schweiden Adlers, he had risen to fame with his exceptional skills and unyielding determination. His powerful spikes and steadfast presence on the court were often the highlight of sports news. Paparazzi followed him relentlessly, their cameras clicking like mechanical insects whenever he stepped out. His face adorned billboards, and his matches were televised events that drew millions of viewers.
Yet, despite the adulation and the accolades, a certain emptiness lingered in his heart. The constant attention was exhausting, and the endless cycle of training and competition left little room for personal reflection. It was this weariness that drove him to make a decision he rarely indulged in: he would take a break. He would return to his roots, to the serene landscapes of the Miyagi prefecture, and visit his mother for a month.
After informing his manager and ensuring his schedule was clear, Ushijima packed a small bag and took a quiet train ride out of Tokyo. The journey was a welcome change from the hustle of city life, the rhythmic clatter of the tracks and the rolling vistas of the countryside soothing his frazzled nerves.
He arrived in Miyagi to a brisk spring breeze and the familiar, comforting sights of his childhood.
His mother’s house stood as it always had, a modest home nestled among fields that stretched out under the wide sky. She greeted him with a warm embrace, her eyes sparkling with pride and joy.
“There’s my big star!” She said as she hugged him.
They spent the first evening catching up, sharing simple meals, and enjoying the unhurried pace of rural life.
It was a balm to his soul, and he felt a peace he hadn't known in years.
After a few days of rest, Ushijima decided to visit an old friend. Tendō Satori, his eccentric best friend from high school, had opened a chocolate store not far from Shiratorizawa Academy. The store, aptly named "Tendō's Treats," had quickly gained popularity for its unique and whimsical confections. Ushijima had followed its success from afar, often receiving care packages filled with Tendō's latest creations.
The shop was a cheerful, inviting place with bright colors and playful decorations that reflected Tendō’s personality. As Ushijima pushed open the door, a small bell chimed, and the rich scent of chocolate enveloped him. Tendō was behind the counter, his trademark grin widening as he looked up and saw his old friend.
“Waka-chan!” Tendō exclaimed, vaulting over the counter with surprising agility. “What a surprise! I didn’t know you were in town!”
Ushijima returned the grin with a rare smile of his own. “I needed a break,” he explained simply.
Tendō clapped him on the back and led him to a cozy corner of the shop. They sat among shelves filled with colorful chocolates, reminiscing about old times and catching up on the present. Tendō’s stories were as animated as ever, his laughter infectious.
“And here I thought you’d be too busy with all those interviews and matches to remember little old me,” Tendō teased, his eyes twinkling.
“You’re not easily forgotten,” Ushijima replied, a hint of warmth in his voice.
Ushijima took a sip of his hot chocolate, his mind wandering back to their high school days. The memories were bittersweet, tinged with nostalgia and regret. He turned to Tendō, who was leaning back in his chair, a contented smile on his face as he savored his own drink.
“Tendō,” Ushijima began, his voice breaking the comfortable silence. “Have you seen anyone from our class recently?”
Tendō’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. “Hmm, not too many, but I do keep in touch with a few. Why do you ask?”
Ushijima shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. “Just curious. It’s been a while since we graduated.”
Tendō grinned and reached under the counter, pulling out a well-worn yearbook. “Ah, perfect timing! I was just looking through this the other day. Let’s take a trip down memory lane.”
He placed the yearbook on the table and opened it to a random page. The pictures and names of their classmates stared back at them, frozen in time. Tendō began flipping through the pages, pointing out familiar faces and providing updates.
“Ah, the usual suspects. Goshiki is still obsessed with volleyball, training kids now. Semi’s in a band, believe it or not. Shirabu went into medicine, as expected. He’s working crazy hours but loves it.”
Ushijima nodded, taking it all in. There was a comfort in hearing about his old teammates, their paths diverging yet somehow staying true to the people they were in high school. But these updates were not the ones he truly sought.
Ushijima nodded absently, his eyes scanning the pages but not really absorbing the information. He wasn’t interested in his old friends, not today. His mind was elsewhere, on someone else entirely.
Tendō noticed his distraction and paused, his expression turning more serious. “Waka-chan, you seem... different. Is there someone specific you’re wondering about?
Ushijima hesitated, then nodded. “Yes. I’ve been trying to find her for years, but it’s like she vanished…” He breathed, “Do you know what happened to her? To Y/N”
Tendō’s eyes softened with understanding. He flipped through the yearbook with more purpose, stopping on a page featuring a picture of Ushijima and you sitting together in the library. Both engrossed in books, having a tutoring session, but the warmth your expression was unmistakable.
“I remember this,” Tendō said softly, tapping the picture. “You two were inseparable back then.”
Ushijima stared at the picture, memories flooding back. The late nights studying, the shared dreams, the quiet moments of understanding. His chest tightened with a mix of longing and regret.
Tendō closed the yearbook gently, his expression thoughtful. “I’ve heard a bit about her. She’s working as a waitress in a restaurant now. And... she has a kid.”
Ushijima’s eyes widened in surprise. “A kid? Is she married?”
Tendō shook his head. “No, there’s no husband or father in the picture as far as I know. I tried visiting her once to see how she was doing, but she avoided me. I didn’t want to push, especially knowing...”
He trailed off, but Ushijima understood. “Especially knowing that I broke her heart.”
Tendō nodded. “Yeah. Waka-chan. I didn’t want to make things harder for her.”
Ushijima leaned back in his chair, feeling a wave of emotions crash over him. Confusion, regret, a hint of heartbreak. But beneath it all, a deep, abiding yearning. Even after all these years, his heart still ached for you.
“I never wanted to hurt her,” he said quietly. “I thought I was doing what was best for both of us.”
Tendō reached across the table and placed a comforting hand on his friend’s arm. “I know. You did what you thought was right. But sometimes, life doesn’t go the way we plan.”
Ushijima nodded, his gaze distant. “She has a child now. I’m glad she’s moved on, even if it means she had to move on without me.”
Tendō’s eyes were filled with sympathy. “Maybe it’s not too late, Waka-chan. Maybe you can still make things right, or at least find some closure.”
Ushijima looked at his friend, the weight of years of unresolved feelings pressing down on him. “Do you really think so?”
Tendō smiled gently. “I do. It’s never too late to try.”
“Can you tell me the name of the restaurant where she works?”
Tendō’s eyes widened slightly, and he paused before answering. “It’s called Sakura’s Garden. Are you planning to see her?”
Ushijima nodded. “I need to. Maybe I’ll run into her...by coincidence.”
Tendō gave a small nod of understanding. “Coincidence, Waka-chan?”
Tumblr media
The walk to Sakura’s Garden felt longer than it should have, each step echoing with the weight of anticipation. As he approached the restaurant, his heart pounded in his chest. He stood outside, peering through the window.
And there you were, moving gracefully between tables. You looked different—older, more mature, and… tired.
He couldn’t stop looking at you. The years had changed you, but there was no mistaking the woman he had once loved. His mind swirled with memories and questions, unable to tear his gaze away.
“What are you doing here?” a familiar voice demanded, cutting through his thoughts.
Ushijima turned to see Asami, your best friend from high school, standing there with a look of disbelief and anger.
“Asami,” he began, trying to keep his voice calm. “I’m just visiting town.”
Asami’s eyes narrowed. “You need to stay away from her, from Y/N.”
Ushijima was taken aback by the intensity of her words. “Why? I don’t understand.”
Before Asami could respond, a small voice interrupted them. “Aunty?”
They both turned to see a little boy standing nearby, looking up at them with curious eyes. Ushijima’s breath caught in his throat. The boy had the same dark, intense eyes he saw in the mirror every day, the same stoic expression.
Asami’s eyes flickered with panic as she glanced at the boy. “Go sit down, sweetie,” she said, her voice strained but gentle. The boy nodded and returned to his seat, casting one last look at Ushijima.
Ushijima watched the boy, his mind racing. The resemblance was undeniable. He turned back to Asami, his voice filled with confusion.
Asami’s expression hardened again. “You need to leave, Ushijima.”
Ushijima’s thoughts were a whirlwind. He looked back at the boy, who was now quietly drawing, the resemblance striking.
Asami shook her head, her eyes filled with a mix of anger and pity. “Leave.”
Ushijima stood there, torn between the need to know the answer of his own question and the realization that his presence might cause more harm than good. He took one last look at the boy, feeling a pang of longing and regret.
“Please,” Asami whispered, her voice softening. “Let her be.”
With a heavy heart, Ushijima nodded slowly. He turned and began to walk away, each step feeling like a battle against the unresolved feelings and questions that plagued him. As he left, he couldn’t shake the image of the boy from his mind. The resemblance, the possibility—it was all too much to process.
But for now, he had no choice but to leave, carrying with him the weight of unanswered questions.
Why does that little boy looks like him?

Just Use Me
word count: 649 || avg. reading time: 3 mins.
pairing: Tendou x chubby!Reader x Ushijima (by proxy)
genre: hurt, angst, unrequited love, heartbreak
warnings: I mean it, this is sad
synopsis: Tendou falls for his best friend’s girlfriend
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When you start dating Ushijima, Tendou is happy for his best friend until Toshi introduces you and, unfortunately, you turn out to be his absolute dream girl from your sweetness and perfectly cuddly figure to your weird humor, taste in music, hobbies - everything seems to match him more than Wakatoshi and a small part of him really begins to hate his best friend for meeting you first.
Especially, because he comes to Tendou for dating advice and it feels horrible to coach his friend how to be romantic with you, to give him suggestions for dates, pointers for compliments and remind him to show you physical affection, too. He hates to see how the perfect gift Tendou had helped Toshi pick out makes your face light up and you wrap your arms around your boyfriend, barely reaching up to his neck. Having to stand on your very tippy-toes you give him an excited Thank You kiss.
To his credit, Toshi immediately informs you that Tendou helped him and the red-head’s heart stops as you turn and your blindingly gorgeous smile is then directed at him.
When you hug him he freezes for a moment before returning the embrace, holding you so closely that it’s almost natural to take a deep breath of your scent. He wants to scream in frustration when you laugh and let go way too quickly. Your warmth still clings to him.
After weeks and weeks of this torture you come to him one day for help because you feel like Toshi might not be the right fit for you as he seems rather confused by the fact that you like to show affection by hand holding, hugging and “… and kissing” you add quietly, cheeks blushed.
That small part of Tendou begins to roar and claw at his throat, trying to make him tell you to dump him then because you deserve better. But he also knows that his best friend is kind and loyal and while he is awkward at showing it, he likes you very much.
And so Tendou encourages you to talk to your boyfriend about your concerns. He feels his lungs burning from suppressing the words he really wants to say instead.
For another few excruciating weeks after this, things seem better for you. He sees you around town, holding Toshi’s hand, glowing with happiness.
But after two more months he spots you sitting on a park bench by yourself. It’s late and he knows you had plans with Toshi that evening.
He comes up to you and asks what happened.
Every fiber of his being tenses when you tell him that Toshi broke up with you. His reason being that it was too much for him to satisfy your need for closeness.
Although, Tendou knew that his friend meant that he wanted to but didn’t feel like he could, he curses him because he could have worded it better.
You begin to cry - again, judging by the puffiness of your eyes.
And now Tendou begs for the words to stay inside. But all the soundless pleas are in vain.
“You can just use me to forget him.”
“What? Tendou, I’m - I - I could never do that to you.”
“Sure you can. I don’t mind. - Really.”, he adds, brightly.
When you don’t say anything but just more tears spill from the eyes he adores so much he lets out a shockingly convincing laugh, “Just kidding, y/n. Don’t worry your pretty little head about it. I’ll talk to Ushiwaka.”
And your face lights up a bit.
“Really? Thank you! So much. You’re amazing.”
“I know.”, he says casually, but feeling like he might break into a million pieces if he stays a second longer, “I’ll call you later, alright?”
And he leaves, not stopping the tears running down his cheeks as soon as his back is turned to you.

How to kill someone
Tendou Satori x f!reader
Summary: Satori was alone his whole life. Always the monster that nobody wanted around until he found someone that would stay with him till the end.
Words: 2.5k
Warnings: bullying, insults, implied suicidal thoughts, loneliness, angst, hurt/comfort
Tumblr media
There was only a little boy sitting at a large table filled with plates and cups for no one to be used, with drinks and snacks that no one would touch. He had a little party hat on his red hair but no one who he would share all the happiness, that once radiated of him, with. His little hands were clenched tightly into his new shirt, his bottom lip wobbling and his eyes becoming glassy but no tear was shed. A woman with a large smile came into the room, holding a cake with chocolate gloss all over it. It wasn`t a masterpiece but it showed that she cared.
“Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Satori. Happy birthday to you!” Before her silvery voice could finish the song the boy in front of her started weeping. His face scrunched up until a stream of tears followed. His mother gently placed the cake on the fully decorated table, just to crouch down next to her boy and hold him tightly. “Ohh honey, I´m so sorry.” His tears were soaking into the fabric of her wonderful dress but she didn`t budge. She didn`t push him away or reprimand him for ruining it. Satori was just a child desperately wanting to feel loved and if his friends couldn`t do that, then his mother would need to step up. “Why didn`t they come?” His little hand still clinging to her form while his pleading eyes were looking right through her. How should she answer that? How should she explain to her son that his friends were playing with his feelings, trying to torture him? “I don`t know, darling.” She tried smiling, lifting the corners of her mouth but it couldn`t reach her eyes, because she knew. They both did.
Tumblr media
Every year after that he tried again and again. But no one ever showed up to his birthday parties. After that, the first day of middle school was the chance he had been waiting for. He was bouncing with energy, ready to make everything right. When his mom pulled up to school to drop him off he saw all these unfamiliar children. The reason for all the nervous tugging and quickly looking around from others, was the reason Satori's heart was nearly pounding out of his chest, accompanied by a big smile. Nobody knew him here. Nobody to ignore him, pretend to be his friend but call him names behind his back. It was finally going to be better.
His mother tried to give him a reassuring smile, holding his hands for a second too long with clammy hands while saying goodbye. As soon as her boy turned around running over to the other kids going to his classroom, her smile fell and she started nibbling on her bottom lip. Nearly making it bleed again after doing it repeatedly for the last few days. He was gonna be alright. Satori bounded into his new classroom. Eyes sparkling with excitement. Finally, after everything he would find friends. He could join a sports club to find people that had the same interests as him. They could train together and go to tournaments. He would be just like everybody else.
One of his little hands was reaching for the doorknob of the classroom while his other one was holding the strap of his backpack. Squeezing it occasionally to contain his excitement. The door was pushed open and a few heads turned around with big eyes. Nervousness radiating off them to see who else would be in their class. Satori's smile stretched over his whole face, showing his teeth that were still a bit too big for his mouth. His eyes scrunched together a bit. His eyes scanned the crowd for a place to sit, waving shyly at his new classmates that were still watching him until his eyes landed on them. Two boys, who seemed ohh so innocent but were the demons his nightmares were made of. His supposedly friends, which ignored him, talked behind his back and called him bad names at the end of primary school. They were everything he had wanted to avoid for his new beginning. "Hey, look who else is here?" Akui pointed out. He was a plain-looking kid. Dark hair falling over his face and almost hiding his small brown eyes. He was gesturing towards Satori, making the other boy at the table next to him turn around. Yumekuis freezing cold eyes fell on him and a wicked smirk danced along his features that had to look so innocent to everyone else seeing their interaction.
"Hey freak, nice to have you back in our class." The glint in his eyes darkened while he waved toward Satori and made a gesture to the table in front of them. They wanted him to sit with them. It wasn`t a friendly request so they could all be together. It was meant to be Satori's slow execution. He wanted to torture everything that Satori stood for. But he sat. Even though everything in him screamed to stand up, to run, to fight, to cry, to do anything but sit. He sat. Moving mechanically and not moving a muscle after he had found his place. He was paralyzed. The cruel truth of destiny had shown him that he could not outrun his fate. All other children would have been ecstatic to see a familiar face in the same room as them but for Satori it was a nightmare come true. Satori had thought weeks before stepping foot into his new classroom that things would be finally better, but after a few months, he realized how horrible it was going and that nobody had his back except for himself. And even he wanted to give himself up so badly and put a knife in his heart to end it all. The pain and suffering. The feelings. From day one everyone was against him. He became the monster. The soul-sucking demon nobody was allowed to touch otherwise you got a disease.
It was the second period. Their teacher had written a math problem on the blackboard and tried to explain a new formula to solve it. But it was hard to listen when little paper pieces were stuck in his hair and occasionally wet pieces found their way to his forehead. Satori was never sure if someone used water from their bottle for it or just their own saliva. His table was filling up with garbage from every side. But their teacher stayed oblivious. Never calling the other students out and putting an end to the battle against the monster, as the other children often called it. As if he was a demon that would steal the happiness out of their lives and they had to fend him off.
It never ended there. Throwing garbage was just the beginning and as the months progressed his classmates grew braver. Putting his binders into the trash followed by his backpack. They stole his homework and pulled down his pants. It was exhausting. He was always waiting for the next attack. A new move they would pull on him to hurt him. It didn`t matter what he did to prevent it. They were always there. Watching him, waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack and humiliate him. All their eyes were always on him. He could even feel them at home in the own comforts of his room. Middle school was hell and Yumekui was the reason it got created. The redhead was at the top of the mountain called loneliness and was just a slight push away from rolling down the other side, plummeting into a deep, cold lake that would finally freeze him. An end that he could already see from the top. It didn`t take long as the last push came. He was a stone that got kicked down, so it could sink into the darkness.
It was a Thursday afternoon and the sun was shining mercilessly down onto the courtyard. From the window, he could see children playing basketball or hide and seek. They all had huge smiles plastered onto their faces and even the kid that fell a second ago, was already on his feet again when one of his friends stretched a hand out to him and helped him up. Satori also needed someone to help him up. He joined the volleyball team of his school to find a person that could understand him. Instead, he found his talent. A passion that had kept him alive for longer. One that gave him hope. They had training on Thursday afternoons but as he wanted to grab his bag full of sportswear, he grabbed into nothingness. His bag was not where he had left it. The emptiness of the coat rack was taunting him. He could already see the disappointed and pitying eyes of his mother when another binder got lost or his backpack broke again. But losing his sportswear was worse because he knew he would have never misplaced it. Volleyball was his dream. He would never be so careless as to jeopardize it. The snickers coming from the last remaining students in the classroom also confirmed it. He hadn`t misplaced or lost it. It got stolen, because everyone hated him and no one wanted to play with him. No one could endure the satisfaction in his eyes when he blocked another spike and finally had the upper hand. So when they had a chance to take away his safe space. His paradise. They stopped at nothing. No feelings or expenses were spared because for them he didn`t deserve it. Satori went with hanging shoulders out of the classroom, eyes fixated on the floor so nobody could see the tears dripping down his cheeks. He was just a boy scared his whole life would be similar. Full of people that didn`t know him but hated him for his looks. He was scared that the bullying would only get worse, with no one to rely on but himself. He walked slowly down the corridor. Thinking about just going home, skipping training when anyways nobody wanted him there. Or if he should go to the gym, make up an excuse about forgetting his sports clothes. Standing his ground and showing his classmates that they couldn`t take that from him. But would it be worth it? To arrive there and only see disgusted faces. Two girls were coming his way, whispering their words and snickering quietly. They had something to do with it. Satori could see it in their eyes. They knew and they didn`t look at him with pity, they thought he deserved it. Until screaming was heard from the end of the corridor.
A girl was standing with their back towards him, gripping a bag that looked incredibly familiar while Yumekui was holding onto the other end. "Stop it! These are not yours!" The girl pressed out. Her whole face was red for exertion but her hands were not budging when Yumekui tried to rip it out of them once more. Satori walked closer to the action to confirm what he already thought. A girl he didn`t know was fighting for his gym clothes. Yumekui's hardened eyes lifted and fell automatically onto Satori. Immediately he let go of the bag and put an annoyed look on his face. Letting the girl stumble back but smile in victory. "Tsk, whatever. Keep this dirty thing." The boy tried to sound nonchalant but failed with the look he threw one last time at the pair before turning around. After he was gone the girl sighed in relief. The last tension was leaving her body before Satori spoke up and she went rigid again.
"That`s my bag." He said timidly, pointing with his long fingers toward her hands. Immediately she jerked around, her eyes wide. "Sorry! I wanted to bring it back but I wasn`t sure who it belonged to and Yumekui didn`t want to give it to me." She rapidly explained, putting a small smile on Satori's face which seemed to relax her. "Where did you find it?" "It was in the bin at the entrance." She explained while handing it over to the boy who had lost his smile again. The truth dawned on him, that this would happen more often now and Yumekui would always find new places to hide it. "I like your smile more." She spoke up once again, a frown now also gracing her lips. Satori took cautiously a step back. His brain going a mile a minute trying to figure out where the trap is. Was that girl in it as well? Is she only pretending to play nice to play an even sicker joke? Was she faking liking him, be his friend only to abandon him? Point with a finger at him, laughing uncontrollably while asking who would want to be the friend of a monster. He imagined a thousand scenarios but her eyes looked at him with so much concern that he couldn`t find the will to just run. He couldn`t even form words but she seemed to understand his inner turmoil. "Are you good at volleyball?" A shy nod followed from Satori before his eyes found the floor again. "Do you want to play before the next lesson starts?" His head jerked up, surprise flashing through his eyes while she just smiled. Satori eyed her suspiciously but she was unfazed, just waiting for him to confirm or deny. So he nodded making her beam at him even brighter before she took his hand and bounded with him over to the yard. "I`m (Y/N) (L/N) by the way. Nice to meet you." After that, there was always someone to hold him. They would play volleyball together and (Y/N) would look at him as if he was a miracle. She would always come to his birthday parties or as they got older, plan them herself. Their last year at Shiratorizawa came around and it was clear they all would go their separate ways. Moving to different cities or even countries and chasing their own dreams. Satori's birthday rolled around again. He was no longer filled with dread when he thought about that day because he knew there was always at least one person to remember it. When he came to class that morning a muffin was standing on his table and behind it, Semi and Ushiwaka were standing with neutral expressions. "Hey, guys. Is that for me?" Satori beamed, eyeing the little treat excitedly. "Of course, it's for you. Happy Birthday." Semi rolled his eyes at him but had a small smile on his lips. "I also wish you a pleasant birthday, Tendou." The redhead laughed thanking his ever-stoic friend as he gave him a little bag with presents their whole team had contributed to. Just as he was about to look at it another voice filled the classroom. The door flung open and loud panting was heard, followed by singing as Satori turned around. "Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Happy Birthday dear Satori. Happy Birthday to you!" Her face was bright red and her hair disheveled. It was the most beautiful sight he had seen all morning. "Thank you, Paradise." It wasn`t only gratefulness for her to remember his birthday but for her to stand by his side for all these years and save him from himself.

Satori Tendou x Female!Reader
Warnings: Language, Angst, Reader was really just trying to help Tendou through some rough times and Tendou snapped at her >:(, sad Tendou
Word Count: 2.7k
Author's Note: Hi everyone! I've noticed that everyone really liked the Tendou smut I posted a couple of days ago and I've been so happy to see the reblogs and likes that its gotten! I've been recovering from being sick for the past six days and I don't know why I'm on such a Satori kick lately! He's a huge comfort character for me I feel, so I wrote SO MANY fics for him. I'll post them all and then I'll move on from posts about him, I'm sorry😭 Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this angst! Feel free to send in an ask if you have a request or even just some feedback:)
Author's note pt.2: I listened to YKWIM by Yot Club while I was writing this, so you can tell why my title is the name of the song hehe lolol. I reccommend listening to it while you read, I find that it really adds on to the atmosphere at the beginning of this :)
~Mod Shoyo
“How long has Tendou-senpai been like this?” A worried Goshiki spoke up.
Semi sighed. “Since he snapped at Y/N the other day.”
Tendou looked like a mess. His normally spiked hair was disheveled and limp. The bags under his eyes got darker. (which mostly everyone thought was impossible) His ruby eyes were puffy and bloodshot. No one knew what to do or how to help him. But Tendou didn’t want any help. He just wanted his apology to be accepted finally so he can have her back. He needed her back.
“He snapped at Y/N?” Reon queried in disbelief. “Man, I wonder what got him so riled up,”
Goshiki looked at his upperclassman with teary eyes. He’d never seen Tendou look so dejected, so depressed. Tendou was always the morale booster. He was the teammate to make everyone feel better and to lift them up. But who was going to make him feel better?
Their middle blocker had lost his smile.
Ushijima stared at Satori from the opposite side of the court. His eyes held the same monotone nature that most people assumed, but in reality, he was actually worried for his friend. Wakatoshi shifted his gaze to the left and noticed the rest of the players just staring at the guess blocker from afar. Nothing was going to change if someone didn’t at least try and help. As the player that Tendou was closest to, Ushijima took it upon himself to make the first move.
“Satori-san,” Tendou looked up, his eyes widening slightly when Ushijima stood in front of him. “You’re going to severely hurt your back if you keep slouching. You should get some rest.”
Tendou looked down at the floor and sniffled. Tears welled up in his eyes for the umpteenth time and fell onto the gym floor. Ushijima didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know how Tendou liked to be comforted in times like this. Hell, he’d never thought he would ever see him like this in the first place.
“Come on Satori, let’s get you some water.” Ushijima blurted out.
Tendou walked away with the ace of Shiratorizawa, sniffling and letting his sobs rack his shoulders a bit louder now. Once they made it to the vending machine closest to the gym, Ushijima pulled out some loose coins from the pocket of his jacket and paid for water. Tendou looked at his reflection in the glass of the machine and sighed.
“I made her cry Wakatoshi-kun,” Tendou admitted. He shut his eyes tightly and let out another sob. “I made her cry.”
Ushijima remained silent. “She was just trying to help and I made her cry.” While most figured the only thing that was ever on Ushijima’s mind was volleyball, he actually was very attentive to the ones close to him. Tendou being one of them.
He knew all about Y/N. Tendou liked to talk about her a lot. She was a manager for Karasuno, Ushijima had actually seen her in person and got introduced to her when they played Karasuno in a match. Tendou was on fire that day. He was trying so hard to impress Y/N, and while Ushijima could argue that she served as a distraction for the guess blocker, she actually fueled him to play his best. Everything about Y/N brought out the best in him, and Ushiwaka knew how much she meant to his friend. He felt horrible for him.
Tendou was in a slump. That was easy for Y/N to notice the second she walked into his dorm to visit him. Her eyes softened at the sight of her boyfriend looking so glum. She dropped everything she had brought with her right next to his door and rushed over to him.
“Tori, what’s the matter love?” She cooed, sitting next to him on his bed. Tendou just stayed quiet. This was worse than she thought. “Do you need anything?”
Tendou sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “I need space.”
Y/N’s heart dropped to her stomach. “Sp-Space?” Did he just need a few minutes of alone time? Or did he need space away from her completely, from their relationship? Y/N tried to not let her overthinking get the best of her, but the way he phrased his answer really didn’t help that at all.
“What?” That’s all that she could muster up. Ask him to repeat himself; ask him for clarification.
An annoyed growl left Tendou’s lips and he stood up from his bed. Y/N straightened her posture and jumped at how suddenly he moved away from her.
“Space! I need you to not breathe down my neck and ask me a million questions like you always do! I need you to leave me alone so I can sort through all the shit that's going on right now!”
Y/N was shocked. She was paralyzed and found it difficult to move her limbs. “T-Tendou whatever it is, I’m here for you! You’re not alone,”
“That’s the thing, Y/N.” Using her first name rather than the million pet names he had given her always did something to her. Hearing him use it in such a vain and angry tone was enough to make tears well up in her eyes. “You can’t just let me sort these out on my own. You always have to squeeze yourself into the midst of the problem and I just want five fucking minutes where you just shut the hell up and stop asking me so many fucking questions!”
He was yelling now. His voice was echoing throughout the room, even worse, his words were echoing in her mind. Did she really annoy him that much? Pester him with so many questions that he could never think straight? Did that mean he lied to her whenever he told her how much she’s helped him work through issues?
She’d never heard him so angry before. “Tendou, why didn’t you just tell me?” He scoffed and adorned a smile on his face despite his anger.
“Because I have a million other fucking things on my plate, Y/N. God for fucks sake, are you really that stupid?" Her heart stung with that one.
"That school in France I applied to? Rejected me. I haven’t heard back from any of the safety schools, I don’t have the money even with a scholarship to make it to my culinary school, and I can’t find any jobs right now that are gonna hire me in time to make the payment! The least of my worries right now is telling you that you ask me too many questions and fucking hound me like a lap dog trying to get answers and reassurance out of me!”
Y/N burst into tears, her sniffles now joining the sounds of his anguish. She wiped at her eyes vigorously (Something she did because she hated when people watched her cry).
“Dear god, stop with the tears already.”
If looks could kill, Tendou would be gutted, sliding against the wall of his room drowning in his own blood. The tears burned as they slid down Y/N’s face. The second Satori finished his sentence, he saw her heart shatter right before his very eyes. He didn’t have the right mindset to calm down and realize what he had just done. His chest was heaving with anger, but the look on Y/N’s face was finally snapping him back to reality.
She couldn’t even bring herself to say another word. She simply stood up from his bed and went to the front of his door where she had dropped all of her things. She picked everything up off the floor and opened the door.
“I’m going home. I’ll give you your fucking space.” She choked out.
She slammed the door to his room behind her and he could hear her footsteps retreating. He sank to the floor and brought his knees up to his chest, burying his face in his hands as he sobbed into his palms. His shoulders were racking with cries. He let out harsh screams into his hands and cursed at himself for hours. He fell asleep on the floor, phone in his hand.
He was waiting for her to text him that she had made it to her house safely, but it never came.
Ushijima sighed. As the water fell into the crater at the bottom of the vending machine, his tall figure stooped down to grab it and hand it to Tendou. He popped the cap open for him and shoved it in front of his face.
“Drink this. It’ll help you calm down.”
Tendou let out a shaky sigh and took a sip from the bottle with quivering lips, even as he sipped on the drink, he was sniffling and tears were still gliding down his cheeks. The red head lowered the bottle and now just held the cold drink in his clammy hands.
“You need to apologize to Y/N.” Ushijima stated. “What you said really hurt her feelings and not apologizing is what’s keeping you like this.”
Tendou sniffled. “I can’t lose her Wakatoshi. She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I- I let bad habits from my past push her away from me.”
A soft grunt left Ushijima. Tendou looked up at his best friend with a newfound respect. “Go apologize to her. That’s what will make her realize that she misses you as much as you do her.”
Ushijima went back into the gym and left Tendou by himself. The silence gave him the willpower to realize that Ushijima was right. He needed to show her that he’s been a mess ever since he made her cry and he needed to get her back.
Tendou was quickly on the next bus to Karasuno. He knew that she would be at the practice helping them. So would the entire team, but they were an obstacle he was willing to overcome to get to her. The bus hissed and the brakes squeaked as he rushed off. He dashed over to the Karasuno gym. His ears rang with the sounds of volleyballs hitting the waxed gym floor. He threw the door open and the sound alone was enough to get everyone’s attention.
Tendou bowed quickly. “I need to speak with Y/N,” He blurted out. “Please.”
Y/N looked at him with wide eyes.
“You have got a LOT of fucking nerve to show up here after what you did Satori,” Daichi scowled from across the gym.
“Coach,” Y/N bowed. “I’m so sorry for the interruption. May I be excused for just a couple minutes?”
Ukai turned and looked at Tendou. He couldn’t help but think about how much this kid looked like shit. Serves him right for being the reason Y/N showed up to practice so sad. Not even Ukai could bear to look at her looking the way she did.
“You let us know if you need some help, alright? I’ll send Noya and Tanaka out there if you need anything.”
Noya and Tanaka puffed their chests out and walked their manager over to Tendou. Once she stepped out the door, Tanaka grabbed Tendou by the collar of the black hoodie he was wearing. Noya scowled and got up in Tendou’s face.
“Listen here, if she comes in here looking half as bad as she did a couple days ago, we will beat you into a fucking pulp.” Tanaka threatened,
“Our manager means everything to us, so the second that I hear a sniffle or a tear drop hit the floor, you better count the fucking seconds you have left before we beat your ass. And that’s a promise from the whole team.” Noya growled.
Tendou cleared his throat. He had so many smart comments to say to the two second years. But right now, the only thing that mattered was that he got to talk to Y/N.
“I’m here to set things right. I know how much she means to you monster children, but she means more to me. Now fucking let go of me,”
Tanaka shoved Tendou out of his grip and watched with narrow eyes as he stepped outside with Y/N. Contrary to popular assumption, the entire Karasuno team, including the coaches, went to the windows to listen in on their manager's conversation with Tendou. It was so wrong of them, and all of them knew that, but not only did they wanna make sure Y/N was okay, they needed to hear how apologetic that cocky Shiratorizawa blocker really was.
“Paradise, I came here to tell you how sorry I am about the other night. For me to push all of that frustration and fear onto you wasn’t right of me at all and you didn’t deserve to be yelled at the way you were.” Tendou began. “The second I saw those tears fall from your eyes I knew I fucked up. I-I was just so angry and I fell back into my old habit of just pushing everyone away. Now that I have you, I understand that I can’t do that anymore.”
Y/N looked up into his bloodshot orbs. He was being so sincere, she was glad he finally realized he fucked up. But she wasn’t going to just forgive him without speaking about what was on her mind. He needed to feel like shit for what he put her through.
“Thank you for finally speaking up about it. I was waiting for you to apologize.” She admitted. “Look, I know that I can get annoying with the questions I ask, I’ll give you that. But what you need to understand is that I’m throwing everything aside in my life, EVERYTHING, just so I can find solutions to your problems. All I ever want is to help you Satori, and for you to just blow up at me and fucking tell me you need space? You can’t tell me that there wasn’t room for me to think that you wanted to break up with me.”
Tendou froze. She really thought he was breaking up with her? Maybe that’s why she was as upset as she was, and why his words stung as much as they did. She thought that he was leaving her.
“I’m glad you realized that you were wrong. And thank you for apologizing to me. But I need to know that something like this isn’t going to happen again.”
Tendou stammered. For once, there was no snarky comment, no immediate answer for what she was asking of him. The middle blocker looked down at his feet, then he met her eyes.
“I’ll communicate with you more. I should’ve told you about my schools and everything and letting it build up wasn’t good at all. I’m going to be more upfront with you even about the things I’m scared to talk about. I can’t lose you Y/N, you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me; you’re my paradise.”
Her heart melted at his words. “I promise you, I will never ever make tears fall from those pretty eyes ever again. It broke my heart to see you leave so angry at me, and it hurt me even more to know that it was my fault. Please, please forgive me.”
She paused. Tears welled up in her eyes once more and Tendou’s face fell. She missed him so much and it had taken her so long to not go and find him, to grovel at his feet and apologize for leaving him the way she did.
She threw her arms around him and buried her face into his chest. He placed his head onto the top of her head and squeezed her tightly. He missed her so much.
“I missed you 'Tori,” She mumbled into his hoodie. “I’m so sorry,”
“Don’t apologize paradise, I’m just glad to have you back now. For good.”
Tendou lifted her chin up towards him and stooped down to place his lips onto hers. The slight chap on his lips meant nothing to her, she was just glad that she had her Satori back. She missed how his lips molded with hers. He missed having someone to run to when he was feeling down.
She was his everything. And he was so glad to not have lost her.

in which you can't handle change and tendou wants to confess
cw: angst, best friend!tendou, implications of emotional cheating but not on reader, cheating mentions, wc is 990
“how’s your girlfriend?” you ask softly into the receiver. you hear tendou shift on the other end.
“we broke up.”
“oh shit, that sucks,” you say, sitting up a little. “you really liked her. What happened?”
“i dunno if you want to know,” he laughs a little. it’s a tired one, like he’s dealt with the problem before.
“i definitely do. i care about you, dude. tell me what’s up.”
“i cheated on her.” his sentence comes to a hard stop.
“what? jesus, satori. what the fuck’s the matter with you?”
“well, she said i cheated on her.”
“did you?”
“no,” he pauses, inhaling a little. “she said it was emotional cheating. she said she thought that there was someone else that i loved and gave my emotional energy to.”
you pause for a minute, blood thickening in your veins. “who?”
“who do you think?”
“jesus…” you sit on it for a minute, letting the silence brew before speaking again. “is this the first time that’s happened?”
“uh, no…” he drones lightly.
“how many times?”
tendou pauses and you can hear him weighing the answer. you already know what it is. the pause is too long to be anything else and you find yourself bracing for its impact.
“all of them.”
you only nod, not offering a verbal answer and trying to swallow your guilt. you’re unable to conjure any words besides an apology but before you can muster up the courage to say it, tendou speaks.
“but,” you hear him weigh his words, “y’know i was thinking that maybe she’s not wrong. that none of them really were.”
“what?” softer this time, afraid that he’s going to say something he can’t take back.
“it’s not your fault. i don’t want you to think that i’m like… friend breaking up with you or anything. the opposite actually.”
“stop.”
you hear his words catch, the weighted pull of his tongue as he closes his lips.
“what are you saying?”
“i think you know.” he exhales and you can hear the sadness in his voice. it’s laden with it, lacing through your ear and carving itself into the side of your skull.
“no… satori, stop it.”
your phone starts to ring in your hand. he’s requesting a video call. you can see the banner pop up over the already ongoing voice call.
you’ve been dreading this, not because you don’t feel the same, but because you cherish him in such a way that you don’t want to risk what you already have. you could feel it coming for weeks, like a heavy wind before it rains; one day, the air started to dampen and then thicken and you had been unable to shake the impending sense of dread that built with every lingering touch and glance. your phone lights up in your hand again, the video call request trilling lightly as the device vibrates against your ear.
“why aren’t you picking up?”
“because I know that if i do you’re going to say something weird and fucked up.” you heave into the receiver, trying to calm the feeling of injustice rising in your chest. he breathes quietly into it, silence confirming what you had been worried about. “i know… that if i answer that call... you’re going to say something that we’ll need to heal from. i don’t want to heal anymore. i’m tired of healing.”
he goes silent before speaking again. “i need you to know.”
“no, you don’t. you don’t need it. neither of us do- god! why can’t you just be fair?”
“i am being fair.”
“no, you’re not. you’re being cruel.”
the phone in your hand rings again. “pick up the call, let me see you.”
“no. if i answer you’re gonna say it and then everything is gonna be different.”
“then let it be different.”
“i don’t want it to be. i want to be like this with you forever. i want it to be you and me forever exactly as we are. i don’t want change. i want to just be us, like this. i can’t lose you. if i accept that call… something is gonna break.”
“it’s already broken! whatever it is, it’s already broken!” you hear the way he raises his voice, caught in his throat. it’s not frightening, nor does it make you feel uneasy. instead, his words are tied together with the distinct sound of anguish and his plea seems to reach deep into your chest, pulling your own injustice from it. pressure builds in his syllables, like he’s a dam fit to burst— then, he speaks quietly, genuinely, "you could never lose me, kid. i promise."
“yeah, because you broke it! you broke it with your stupid video call and your stupid ex-girlfriend and your stupid need to be honest! if i answer this call…. i need you to lie to me.” your anger coats the back of your throat, thick and heavy where your tongue meets the roof of your mouth. you love him, but you can’t bear the change. you won’t. he’s too important. satori means too much.
tendou agrees without hesitation, something uncharacteristic of him. “okay, i’ll lie.”
he calls again, the screen lighting up with the requested video call. you answer it this time, finger tapping the green accept button, and the phone makes a pleasant hum as his face glows across the screen. when Satori comes into focus, you can see the way his low-lidded eyes are puffy. they hang like he’s tired and below his eyes, his prominent under-eye bags have deepened. his face is fond and familiar. after so many years, you have his features memorized.
“hey,” he says like you haven’t been yelling at him.
“hi,” you answer meekly, voice low as you avoid looking at yourself in the top corner of the screen.
then, tendou takes a deep breath and looks through the camera. his lips pull down in a frown and he speaks in clear and distinct syllables. “i am not in love with you.”
he’s lying and you feel whatever it is break anyway.

Chapter 5: Tendou
Prompt: (Character) annoying Reader until they go on a date. Character: Tendou ___________
Maybe this was an unpopular opinion, but you despised Tendou Satori. With your entire being, you disliked him.
Whether it was his mannerisms, his appearance, personality or simply anything he did, it annoyed you to no end. Now, maybe you were being a little harsh, but in your defense, it wasn’t like he even tried to be nice to you. Its been mutual ever since you met.
Being a first year at Shiratorizawa Academy, not to mention being the Ushiwaka’s younger sister, you were introduced to the volleyball team quite quickly. You remember being a nervous wreck walking to the gym. You needed to be on your best behavior. You didn’t want to disappoint Wakatoshi, plus you had a reputation to uphold. You were known as the smart one, the kind one, the one that was always there to lend a hand. You had spent your entire middle school career, working for that reputation. Being under what you could only assume was the biggest shadow, and the enormous shoes to fill that were left by Wakatoshi, you worked long and hard, never slipping up, being the perfectionist and goody-two shoes everyone thought you were. What you like to think you are. Now that you were finally in high school, you had to work all over again, and much harder.
But you were nothing but determined.
Though, when it came to meet the team, it seemed there was nothing to be nervous about. The group of boys were both eager and curious to see what you were like, considering there only point of reference of your family was the stoic ace himself. Not that he gave much away. Surprisingly, while your brother was known for his emotionless nature, you were not. In fact, you could express your emotions easily and freely, to his team’s surprise. Meeting Wakatoshi’s teammates was actually really fun, and you enjoyed conversing with them. They were all kind and respectful, and even managed to make you laugh a couple times.
Then you saw him.
“Eh, Wakatoshi-kun, this is your sister? She’s a lot smaller and scrawnier than I imagined.” You see a tall skinny boy with spiky red hair, leaning his arm on your brothers’ shoulder. Eyes wide and full of amusement, looking you up and down. You could see the whole team flinch at his bluntness, with the third years already looking tired. You grit your teeth subconsciously.
Like you should talk, you literal twig.
You pay no mind to the insult, giving him a polite laugh and a bright smile. “Yes, I suppose I am a little on the smaller side.” You hide your annoyance flawlessly. At that, you see him purse his lips, eyes searching your face. The gesture does manage to annoy you further, but you still pretend to turn a blind eye.
What’s this guys problem?
“Since everyone has already introduced themselves, I assume you’re Tendou. I’ve heard a lot about you from onii-san. Pleasure to meet you, Tendou-senpai.” You outstretch your hand in courtesy, except you really didn’t want to shake this man’s hand. But the amusement had come back full force, and he took your hand almost eagerly. His rough, calloused, giant hand basically ate yours. And he noticed too.
“Wow, your hands are tiny! Wakatoshi-kun, are you sure your sister is eating?”
Yup, its official. You don’t like him now. You try to laugh it off, obviously sensing the team’s discomfort from Tendou’s comments. He’s actually starting to get to you now, because even Wakatoshi could hear the strain in your laugh, turning his head slightly in confusion.
Yeah, your brother had the social skills of a potato.
Yet, you see your brother nod in agreement. “Yes, she is quite petite. I often tell her she should eat more.” Then Wakatoshi turns to you. “You should eat more, (Name).”
You felt your cheeks flush. Did he really have to act like a worried aunt in front of his team? You do nothing but nod, mumbling about having a large meal at lunch, trying your best to get the conversation off you and onto some other topic, but Tendou is relentless. You feel your eye twitch.
“So, do you play volleyball like our Wakatoshi-kun?” You give nothing but a respectful smile, doing everything you can to not show your distaste. “Ah, sadly no. I spend way too much time reading or studying to be on a sport team.” You laugh, rubbing the back of your neck.
Semi, one of the third years, tries to pick up the shattered pieces that were left of the conversation. “So, what do you like to-”
“Ah, just as well. With Wakatoshi-kun over here being a prodigy, I doubt anyone would notice you.” There’s a pause. In that moment, all you see Tendou. You see his stupid smirk, leering over you. His eyes wide and searching your face, looking for something, anything.
Looking for a crack in your façade.
You feel your nail dig into your palms.
“I’m sure I’d find some way Tendou-senpai. After all, if you did it, it shouldn’t be that hard.” You don’t even know what you’re saying until you’ve said it. You look up at them in surprise, and they you. Your light and kind voice had slightly dampened, frustrated undertones shining through in your moment of weakness. You look to Tendou, expecting to see a somewhat offended, or even surprised face, but all you see is satisfaction.
You realize he egged you on, on purpose.
You don’t even have time to correct your statement, before you hear a loud, obnoxious laugh.
“Wow, (Name)-chan sure is feisty, huh?” Tendou turns to Wakatoshi, and all Wakatoshi does is nod confusedly. By now the rest of team has told Tendou to knock it off already, and to give you some space to breath. You try to ease their worries by waving them off, telling them it was fine, but really it was anything but.
How could a guy you’ve known for five minutes, break you so easily? All the years you’ve spent training, perfecting yourself, shattered within a five-metre vicinity of this man.
Well, one thing is for sure; you needed out now. You pretend to just notice the clock on the gym wall.
“Ah! It appears I’ve overstayed my welcome. I’ll have to head home now. It was a pleasure meeting all of you.” You say, making eyes with everyone except Tendou, who huffs out a tiny laugh. You bow in respect before getting your stuff, you hear footsteps behind you.
“I will walk you home. It is too late for you to be walking alone.” Wakatoshi says, picking up his items to follow you. You stop him immediately. You knew that the relationship between your brother and mother was incredibly strained, has been ever since the divorce, and you really didn’t want to put your brother in any uncomfortable situations. “Onii-san, I wouldn’t want to bother you. You have class in the morning. Plus, you told me you have a test coming up. You shouldn’t waste your time. I’ll be fine.”
You place a hand on his arm, comforting. Still, he doesn’t relent. You see from behind Wakatoshi that Tendou is still standing there, eyes only on you. His expression was calm, calculating, as he studied your face. You make a point to not look at him.
“I don’t feel comfortable letting you walk by yourself.” At this point, you’re willing to just agree and let him come. You just wanted to leave, because, though you were willing yourself to not make direct eye contact, out of the corner of eye, you could still see Tendou, watching the whole ordeal. It makes the back of your neck hairs stand on end.
“I’ll walk her.” Oh, you so badly want to scream ‘Over my dead body!’. But, you manage to compose yourself, looking over and trying to immediately shut down the situation.
“Like I said there’s no need-”
“It’s not a problem for me. I have no tests coming up and I have free period tomorrow morning.” Tendou gives you a smirk, and it only stirs up anger. He knew exactly what he was doing, from the moment you met, he wanted something. But what it was you weren’t sure. You hadn’t even done anything to him. You always tried to be on your best behavior, put on your brightest smile, and kindest laugh for everyone you meet, but him…
You’d rather dig your own grave and bury yourself.
You were about to say no, when Wakatoshi speaks up for you. “That would be great. Thank you, Tendou.” Your rejection immediately dies in your throat. You try one last ditch attempt to get out. “Are you sure? I wouldn’t want to bother you.” You say sweetly, but with the undertones of ‘back off and leave me alone’ which is something you know he understood fully. He leans closer to get down to your height, still with the biggest smile.
“No, please. It would be my pleasure.” He holds your eyes before walking to the doors of the gym. “Come on then, Kogara-chan*. Wouldn’t want your parents to get worried.” You feel your hands tighten around your bag at the nickname, but your face showed nothing but gratefulness as you turned to your brother and said your goodbyes.
Well, if he wasn’t in your bad book before, he definitely was in it now.
He managed to get you completely at his mercy, and you could do nothing but curse inwardly and follow him outside, starting your walk to your house.
It started out quiet at first, with you hearing nothing but the sound of his and your footsteps. After about five minutes in, you were starting to think he wouldn’t say anything at all.
But you wished too soon.
“Is it not tiring?” You pause, before looking back at him, with an innocent and confused look on your face.
“What do you mean, Tendou-senpai?” He clicks his tongue in annoyance.
“Ya can drop the act, Kogara-chan. No one’s here.” You felt yourself freeze, but you compose yourself quickly. But not quick enough, you could tell he saw your tiny slip up. Still, you refuse to break. “I’m sorry I’m not sure I follow, senpai. What act?”
“The innocent goody-goody act. I don’t know how everyone else hasn’t seen right through it, it’s fake as hell.” He laughs a little, making annoyance flow through your veins.
“You’ve never even met me before; you have no idea what my personality is like.” Your voice has dropped a couple octaves than the higher, sweeter one you’ve used for years. It almost feels weird. You see him smirk once more. God, if you weren’t already tired of it.
“Call it a guess.” You reached your street. Just a couple more minutes, just a couple more then you’ll be home free. You don’t even think about what your saying, blurting out your thoughts as all you’re focused on is getting away from him.
“Alright, what does it matter to you that it is?” You hear him hum.
“Ah, so it is? Thanks for clearing it up! I’d really rather prefer if you weren’t like that. It was so annoying!” Tendou’s teasing voice rings in your ear, letting you revel in what you just did.
This bastard.
In your tiny moment of weakness, the devil himself managed to wean his way right into your dirtiest secret. Your biggest insecurity. The one thing you managed to keep from everyone, even your family, Tendou managed to find out in less than hour.
You stopped walking. Letting the cool air blow harshly against your face, but you can’t even feel it. You feel so many emotions, so much hatred for the middle blocker, that any kind of rational thinking is thrown out of the realm of possibility.
“Fuck it.” You mutter, head down, refusing to look at him. You hear Tendou’s footsteps stop as well at your voice and turns around. But to his surprise, you’re suddenly in front of him, grabbing his hoodie and pushing him against a random pole that littered the streets. For the first time in the evening, he looks legitimately surprised. You’re a lot stronger than you look, that’s for sure.
“Listen here, you fucker. I don’t know what I did to deserve the shit you’ve been giving all night, considering that I’ve never even met you until today, but I’ve worked too hard to have my reputation thrown down the shithole from some red-haired lizard. So, what do you want? Money? Some clothes? Anything to say that you’ll keep the stupid mouth of yours shut.” You growl. Now, you really didn’t want to give this asshole anything, but you knew what kind of status he had.
Being a third year, relatively smart, and on the volleyball team gave him a level much higher than yours. In this school, it would be his word against yours, and one tiny rumor could definitely end the image you’ve made for yourself. And you can’t let that happen.
Not after you’ve worked so hard.
Tendou manages to shake his surprised expression quite quickly, turning it to his usual asshole smirk. What you would give to be able to smack it off him…
He takes the hand that’s gripping his hoodie and pulls it off him, only to pull your arm to bring you a lot closer than you’d like. But you stand your ground; you wouldn’t fall for his antic any longer.
You refuse too.
“My, my… I mean I thought you’d be a little different, but you’re like a new person. I’m impressed…” He purrs out the last bit, and it takes everything in you not to cringe. You manage to keep your face passive.
“Cut the bullshit. What is it that you want? Tell me and then we go our separate ways.” You hiss, voice filled with venom. He chuckles, before tightening his grip slightly, he pulls you even closer and whispers:
“Go out with me.”
Out of all the things you thought you were going to hear, that sentence was probably in the bottom thousands.
Eh, make it hundred thousands.
You convince yourself that it’s the surprise that makes you flush, before whipping your hand away from him and taking a couple steps back. “Wh-what?” You stutter, which only makes him snort before howling in laughter. You half expect him to go ‘sike!’ halfway through it, but when his laughter dies down, he doesn’t say anything. Doesn’t explain himself, but just leaves that heavy sentence in the air. You stand there awkwardly, going over the sentences over and over in your head.
“Go out with me.” I mean what? You’ve never even been on a date much less a boyfriend. And you sure as hell wouldn’t want your first to be him.
Tendou stretches, before checking the watch on his wrist. “Wow, it’s later than I thought. I’ll have to leave you here, I guess. I’m sure you’re more than capable then walking yourself the rest of the way.” His stretched arm goes to pat your head, which makes you freeze. You don’t even have time to swat his hand away before he removes it himself and starts walking back to the academy. You watch his retreat still too shocked to say anything else. Then, once more, he stops, and turns to you.
“I’ll see you later, Kogara-chan~” His voice turns sing-songy, at the end, giving you a wink, then turning back and walking away. Leaving you in the dark street. Completely and totally baffled.
You could practically hear your image flushing down the toilet.

Too much love to handle
Tendou x Reader angst!
Word count: 835
---------------------------------------------------
Playlist to bawl you eyes out while reading
---------------------------------------------------
It hurts him to see you happy, with someone other than him. Tendou never let his guard down, even if his day was fully exhausting to him. But seeing you happy with someone else hurts him.
You both had gone your ways after you broke up two years ago in high school, and it took time to get close again, even talking was taking too much courage for Tendou, but eventually as time moved on, you started to be friends again.
You once came to his part-time job at a café just to catch with him up again. But as his best friends name came out of your mouth, his heart shrinked in his chest suddenly, making his chest hurt. Tendou just smiled it away as he listened to you talking about your date you had.
Each time the name fell, the pressure on his chest got heavier, but he wanted to show you of what a friend he is to you, just a kind friend. A kind friend with too much love to handle.
You always were loyal, and you could never betray your partner with someone else. Tendou and you just eventually realized that it wasn't the relationship you dreamed of, never enough for both of you.
But for his part, it was a lie. He was the happiest he's ever been with you, but he didn't wanna pressure things onto you, that you weren't going to enjoy. He wanted you to live your life at your fullest. Without him unfortunately. He couldn't give you enough love he had buried deep inside. Yet he still feels it, after those years, it didn't dissappear.
He smiled at you, you and Ushijima that visited his café to meet him once again, to have another date in this café. As you chatted, Tendou's body signals his little anxiety, feeling a pain in his chest as you seem happy, more happy than you ever were with him. He smiled the pain away, trying to make the coffee you and Ushijima ordered.
"we planned on going to that library afterwards" you said with such a calm voice, he never heard before. Calming but yet thrilling, at the same time hurtful with the word 'we'.
"You did? It seems like you really planned things out!" Tendou said, looking at the satisfied faces of you and Ushijima. It hurts to see them together. It felt like cheating, but it's all time that lead to things.
He gave you both your mugs of expresso and dark coffee and smiled at you with such a facade that was about to break in thousands of pieces if anyone would simply snap with their fingers. You thanked him as you went to a table, Ushijima putting his free hand on your back to lead you.
Him seeing you talk, smile bright as you looked at his best friend like you never did, chuckled, or just listened to him with such a soft gaze, let Tendou felt hurt, maybe even terrified. He couldn't concentrate on his customers anymore, his put-on smile trembling more and more. It let him feel so weak that he couldn't enjoy seeing you at your best, so hurt. All the time, his love for you never really faded.
As you said your goodbye to him, Tendou was slightly closer to break out in here. Your true smile, your perfect face, your charm, everything he loves is meant to be for someone else but him.
As you and Ushijima walk out of the glass-door, his arm around your shoulder, Tendou couldn't bear his feelings anymore. A tear slowly running down his face.
He quickly told his colleague to take over and went into the private area of the café, his tears uncontrolled. It was too much, too much to handle and he has to smile about it, about the fact that he was once again not exactly what he intends to show. His tears running down his smiling pathetic face.
What Tendou didn't know, Ushijima noticed it, his friend breaking apart behind his back.
"Wait here, I'm just using the bathroom from the café" Ushijima told you and went into the café once again.
Suddenly, Tendou saw the shoes from before in the private area, looking up to see Ushijima infront of him. Without hesitation or words, he took Tendou in his arms, them resting on his shoulders.
Curiosity is seeable on Tendous face, wondering how he got in here, but it quickly faded to acceptance, slowly wrapping his arms around Ushijimas body.
It was rare for those best friends to hug, as Ushijima is not much of a physical touch type, but he knew what was needed. Just a hug, a hug that lasted a little longer.
Tendous chest hurt, but the warmth of Ushijimas body filled him. It felt like a silent apology to him, an apology Tendou knew wasn't needed. Just a little longer.. He thought.
A little longer for the moment, to feel a bit better. Just a bit...

Snippet of a fic im writing. PLEASE give me feedback lmao😭😭
Something was off about Tendou during practice, anyone would notice. He was sluggish and quiet which was so unlike him. Whenever somebody asked him what was wrong, he either mumbled a half baked lie or straight up ignored them. His mind clouded with thoughts of you, his best friend apart from Wakatoshi. You guys grew up together, seeing each other through the best and worst of times. The only thing he wanted to do at that moment was to go to you and rant while you comforted him. But he couldn’t, and that’s why he was in such a bad mood. What once was a close friendship had frayed at the edges, leaving both of you grappling with confusion and hurt. You had been Tendou's confidante, his cheerleader, and his closest friend. But recently, a series of misunderstandings had driven a wedge between you two, creating a chasm that neither of you seemed able to bridge.

enemies to lovers- Tendou
Tumblr media
"Hmm, let's see what's for lunch." You looked forward sighing. "Ick, Ick on a bun, Ick on a stick. Jeez."
"You should be use to it, they've been serving this stuff for years." Your best friend told you as she patted your head.
"Yeah, just thought today would be different." You sighed leaning back making your other friend laugh. "But at least today there's some variety."
"Hm, he looks tasty." You turned your head seeing her talk about your crush.
"really tasty." He looked over at you two and you quickly moved your eyes to his plate. "I was talking about your food."
"I wasn't." You shot a look to your friend.
"I sweet talked the cafeteria lady. Told her, her hair net really brought our the sparkle in her eyes."
"Aw, so sweet." You turned your eyes to Tendou as he walked over.
"Hey, I got her to make me a rack o'lamb. Man, I love lamb!" The boy stopped squinting his red eyes at you. "Y/n."
"Tendou." He looked at you with a glare, which you kindly returned.
"Anyways..." C/n spoke up causing you two to break the eye contact. "We should go, practice will start soon."
"Let me guess, practice til you puke? Maybe it'll make you look better."
"Let me guess, slack off til it pays off? I'm sure they'll love that."
"At least my game brings joy to people."
"At least we get people." You two hold another glare.
"Wow, what's going on here?"
"Nothing."
"It's beyond nothing." You snapped back at him.
"It's certainly nothing to be late over. We have practice to get to, right after lunch. Y/n."
"Tendo." You watched him leave before turning back to C/n and your friends.
"You know for something that you said was nothing, that sure seemed like something."
"Oh, well, um, it's -it's you know, a day to day something."
"Sometimes hour by hour." F/n jumped in rubbing your back.
"It's complicated."
"He's complicated." G/n spoke up.
"Well, I'm not." He winked before walking away to his friends.
"Don't do it." G/n spoke turning to face you.
"Why not?"
"Yeah, why shouldn't she?"
"Because."
"Because why?"
"Because...My best friend dated him and he dumped her. It wasn't pretty. Her face broke out and she started wearing polyester pants! Look." She took her phone out showing you a photo.
"I doubt anything is gonna happen between C/n and me."
"I'm just warning you."
"I think she can handle herself." F/n told her.
"Fine. Don't listen to me. But when your heart is broken into a million pieces and scattered all over the floor, just remember, I don't vacuum. But then again, it's not like she's gonna talk to him."
"I just did."
"Boo, you talked to him about Tendo."
"Ugh. Whatever."
"Why do you got to be such a bitch." F/n looked at you as G/n walked away. "Well, he always wants what he can't have, right?"
"Right?"
"So let's make you what he can't have!"
"Meaning?"
"You're gonna need a fake date."
"Ohh. A fake date."
"Hmm."
"Well, I know just the fake to date." You walked over to Tendo smiling softly at him. "Tendo."
"Y- Why are you smiling?"
"We need to talk."
--
"You want to what?"
"Fake date. I don't know it was F/n idea."
"Trying to get someones attention?"
"It doesn't matter. Will you help me?"
"Why should I?"
"Please..."
"Fine, under one conditon."
"Great. What do you want?"
"I want to know why you hate me."
"Seriously."
"Y/n. I'm genuinely asking, why do you hate me?"
"you really don't know?" Tears began to fill your eyes at the memory, you shook your head at the boy., "You... called me fat. I know I was a chunky kid growing up... but hearing the words leave your lips... I don't know it just snapped something in me.."
"You heard that? That's why you hate me? But your hot now! I mean... skinnier."
"You think that justifies your words?"
"No... I'll help you, I'll pretend to date you."
"Thank you."
--
You started off as holding hands in the halls by your lockers, people stopped and did double glances to make sure they were seeing right. "When did this happen?" Your friend came over looking at you two questionably.
"Last night, I confessed my undying love." Tendo told her, her eyes widen along with yours.
"You confessed?"
"Yeah? What's weird about that?"
"I realized that all I was doing was hiding my real feelings by taking them out as anger towards him. Who couldn't love this face." Tendo looked at you with soft eyes as you spoke the truth, you grabbed his chin and shook his head softly, like a grandma would do with their grandchildren.
"You couldn't literally yesterday. Look is this because you realized C/n would never go for you? I mean sweety about time you opened your eyes, but Tendo? You guys hate each other, this is so fake." Tendo smirked at her before grabbing your chin, silently asking for permission. You gave a weak nod, as he bent down capturing your lips with his. It was a slow kiss one that made you question everything you felt about the boy. Your friends eyes widen at the sight. Tendo pulled back smiling at you with such care, it was weird.
"Would I do that if it was fake?" She rolled her eyes and walked away. "I think she's jealous of you?"
"Pfft, of me? Yeah, no way. G/n has it all she doesn't need to be jealous of me."
"I would, like I slipped out yesterday, your hot. You got this cute sexy thing going on, she couldn't even come close. And then you have this aura around you that just draws people to it. Plus, you taste like strawberries." Your eyes widen and face became red at the last remark, he kissed your cheek quickly and took off running down the hall. You closed your locker as a ding came from your phone.
also wear something cute around 6ish. Date tonight, I heard C/n will be there.
You didn't understand why Tendo was helping you, but then again you didn't understand why you still have him saved under Ten-Ten <3.
You did as told and got dressed after reaching your home. When 6 rolled around you were looking down at your outfit it was a simple one. You wore a cute red shirt with blue jean shorts and thigh high leggings, you were caught up in your head to not noticing the tall lean figure against your door. "You look adorable." You turned around shocked to see him.
"Hi? How did you get in?"
"Relax, I remembered the key under the gnome." You grabbed your jacket and purse before walking over to him. "You seem ready."
"I'm more nervous, because even if this is a fake date.. it's my first." You mumbled turning your head to the side, but he heard you.
"Then I better make it promising." He cupped your chin and pulled your lips to his. You sighed into the kiss grabbing his shoulders to balance yourself. He moved his hands from your chin to the back of your neck pulling your closer. You let out a little whine as his other hand wrapped around your waist holstering you up a bit. Your face was definitely red as he pulled away, that damn soft smile on his face.
"What was that for?"
"In case it's the last time." You smiled lightly as he placed you back on the ground. "Let's go do this." He grabbed your hand and dragged you out the house, before walking in the direction of the arcade. You two sat down making small talk until your friend showed up.
"G/n, what are you doing here?"
"Heard you two were on a date so thought we could double date."
"Excuse me?" C/n made his way to the table and smiled at you two.
"Ah so the nothing became something."
"How about you and I partake in a friendly game of Air Hockey?" You asked your friend smiling at her.
"Eh, it's not really my- ow! " You dragged her away from the table leaving the boys alone.
"Why are you trying to ruin my date?"
"I'm trying to protect you!"
"From what, having fun?"
"From getting hurt! Now, as soon as this game is over, and I have no idea when that is. You will get a toothache and I will take you home. You're on a date with Tendo. Tendo. You two hate each other."
"Why are you trying to protect me, you're never this nice."
"I will tell you who's not nice. Tenod."
"How do you even know so much about him? Wait.... why do you know so much about C/n? All this time of me asking you for advice, you knew just what to say."
"Just pick a side for your toothache!"
"You were that "friend" who dated C/n and ended up wearing polyester pants!"
"I would never wear polyester pants."
"Hah, I should've guessed it. Who's G/ns best friend? G/n! Hah! So you came here to ruin my date because you're jealous!"
Tendo looked at you with such care, he wonders if your okay. "So, you, uh, having a good time on your date?"
"I was, until it was rudely interrupted."
"Yeah, G/ns a piece of work, right?"
"Tendo is a jerk!"
"He's not a jerk!"
"Oh, she is so cute when she's angry." Tendo looked at his friend then you, watching you puff out your cheeks, something he's seen you do when you two have a stare off.
"Pfft, Y/ns always cute. She can't do anything without it being cute. Stupid cute." G/n took off behind the boys going to the soda machine making you follow.
"No dude, I am talking about G/n!'
"I'm sorry, I thought you just said G/n."
"I did."
"I'm telling you, Tendo is a jerk!"
" Oh, she hates me so much. Ah, I love it!"
"You know what, why don't you take your girlfriend and get out of here. Give me and G/n some time alone." You and G/n stopped hearing the conversation unfold between C/n and Tendo.
"Wait. So all those times you've brought up Y/n, was because of G/n? What about the times you'd talk to Y/n?"
"Becuase G/n was there too. I was too nervous to talk to her myself. Needed a middle man."
"Does Y/n know she's your middle man? Dude your playing with her feelings."
"Why does it matter? You hated her guts yesterday?"
"I never hated her. I mean yeah, we fight. But it's mostly just because I think she's cute when shes angry. Shes.. I never hated her."
"Good for you dude, but seriously hook me up."
"No. I'm not your middle man, and neither is Y/n. She liked you, you played with her feelings to get a girl. Her friend at that. And you're okay with it? No dude, she has feelings. she's not someone you can use until you find someone better. You know what, I am taking my girlfriend and leaving. You're also off the team, douchebag." Tendo got up and turned around to see you standing their with wide eyes. "Y/n..." Your friend looked at you slightly shocked as well.
"Shall we go...?" Your voice was so small he barley heard it.
"Yeah, come on, something smells in here." He wrapped and arm around your shoulder leading you out the place. He sat you near a bench on the side of the street rubbing your arms softly. "I'm sorry."
"It's fine, I should've known... you really don't hate me?" He looked at you with a soft smile.
"Of course not.. look the reason I agreed was because you were right. I am an asshole. I should've told those kids I liked you instead I call you a horrible name for that I am sorry. Then you began hating me, so I buried those feelings. But I missed you terribly. I missed the girl who cried on my shoulder when we watched a movie, who'd come to me when someone said something. The girl who stuck up for me when people called me names. And I chased that girl away. I miss the girl I loved."
"Ten... we were 8 when you called me that... how could you possibly know?"
"I'm the guess monster remember? I just knew."
"I'm sorry, for leaving your side... I never wanted to. But hearing those words escape the lips of someone I trusted."
"I know. I know. I do love you." You looked up at him, you really looked at him, he was the same boy you knew. All these years, he's still the same. You shuffled closer, if possible and leaned up to kiss him. It was slow like the first one, but full of love. Tendo cupped the side of your face as he used his other hand to draw you in closer.
"I love you, too..." He smiled down at you pulling you into a bone crushing hug, but you didn't mind. "You smell like flowers."
"And you taste like strawberries."

Blurs of colors and shapes come into view as you blink your eyes open, head spinning and body feeling stiff. The buzzing hum of fluorescent yellow lights was the only sound to fill the silence as your vision started to clear. What you’re met with is an empty room, aside from the closed, white folding table that’s propped up against the barren prussian colored wall. A few windows barely illuminated the space as they were fogged up by dust and spider webs. The room was no bigger than that of an average sized master bedroom. Your head starts to throb.
You move to get up, only to then realize why your body felt so stiff. Looking down, you find yourself bound to a white plastic chair. Rope and tape is expertly tied around your limbs and chest, keeping you firmly in place. Panic sets in rapidly as you squirm in the chair. Your breathing becomes shaky as you look around, trying to look behind you.
“HELP! Someone, please!” Heart racing, palms sweating, breathing shallow. A panic attack quickly washes over your senses as tears flood your eyes, the pounding in your head getting worse. “Can anyone hear me? Please!”
You tense up as the creaking sound of a door opening behind you fills the room, your breath catching in your throat. "Oh good! You're finally awake.” The click of the door shutting makes you flinch as you try and fail to turn your head around to see who’s talking to you. “For a minute there, I was afraid I'd given you too much Rohypnol. I guess you're lucky you weren't drinking alcohol last night. You really would have been knocked out for good if you did.”
Last night? Damnit, you knew it was a bad idea to go out. You told your friends you weren’t feeling up to it, but they needed a driver and you knew how fucked up they were going to get. So you went, just so they wouldn't get in a uber drunk and to make sure everyone would be safe. How ironic.
"Who are you? What do you want from me?" There’s silence for a moment, the tension somehow becoming thicker, impenetrable. It's only broken by the sound of his chuckle. It sends a shiver down your spine.
“Perhaps I did cause some memory loss, unless you’re joking. You always were one for pranks, weren’t you?” Sure, you used to be a troublemaker when you were young, but how could he possibly know that? “Come on darling, listen to my voice. I know it’s been a while, but I know you could never forget me.”
Do you know this person? Who on Earth would do something like this to you? You never hung out with anyone shady, and you made sure to keep your friend group full of good people. He still sounded like he was at the door, and you haven't heard any footsteps yet. Maybe you can try reasoning with this guy. "I really don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you mistook me for someone."
"Perhaps this will jog your memory." The sound of his footsteps gets closer. As he approaches from behind, he starts singing. "Baki baking ni ore~ Nani wo?" He stops right behind the chair you're stuck in, leaning down closer to your left ear. "Kokoro wo da yo~"
Your stomach twists in knots as the old forgotten memories from your high school years flood your mind. You suddenly feel dizzy. It can't be…
"Tendou..?"
Tendou perks up as you finally mention his name, smiling wide as he stands in front of you. You finally get to look him in the eyes and you feel sick to your stomach. Tears glaze over your eyes once more. "Thank goodness, you still remember me! I was so worried I'd have to start all over from the beginning again."
Tendou Satori. He was your classmate and best friend back in middle and high school. The two of you were basically attached at the hip, hanging out all the time during and after school. You went to every single one of his volleyball games, cheering him on and celebrating his wins. But during your third year in high school, he just up and disappeared. No explanation or warning whatsoever. You'd tried contacting him multiple times, going to his house, asking people around school, but nothing. You honestly thought he might have just moved away.
He moves closer to you, cupping your cheeks in his bandaged hands. You flinch from his touch, turning your head away. A look of hurt flashes across the redhead's face before it's replaced with a twisted smile, one you had never seen before on anybody. "What's wrong, darling? After all these years you don't honestly think I'd hurt you, right?"

“Satori. Do you want to die?”, Ushijima asks.
Tendou is taken aback, because the question sounds unreal. He’s never heard a person ask him that question to his face.
And Ushijima must have sensed his hesitancy in responding with a ‘no’, because he continues.
“I don’t what you to do.. that.” He says.
“I /can’t/ let you do that.” His voice breaks.
He then looks up at Tendou and he says in what is a whisper so quiet that Tendou is surprised he can even hear it, “You can’t leave me here alone.”
“I need /you/ to be here.”
Ushijima is now turned towards Tendou fully as he reaches his hands up to cover his face.
“I’m sorry.” Tendou gulps. He never wants to see that look on Ushijima’s beautiful face again, scrunched up and melting. A quiet agony, that will will only ever be seen by Tendou in their shared dorm room.
He reaches forward and wraps his arms around Ushijima’s shaking frame, and he does it as delicately as possible because he doesn’t want to break something so wonderful. He hopes that this will make him understand.
He’s sorry. Oh he’s sorry.
“I’m so sorry Wakatoshi. Please forgive me.” He chants a different combination of these words over and over again before he pauses.
Suddenly he understands everything. This man, this person, how has it taken him so long to understand?
Ushijima needed Tendou as much as he needed him.
