Anyone wanna hang out in this hospital ward with me? Apparently my spinal infection is not contagious, plus cannulas, while practical, are gross af, and it took them forever to get this one in because a) my veins didn't want to come out and play, b) the ones they found didn't want to bleed.

I'm going to try to work on replies, if I can focus. The skilled nursing facility where my mom is - is abusing/ horribly neglecting patients. They keep yanking my mom's pain meds, not giving her her antibiotic on time, not doing much in the way of rehab. They keep """forgetting""" to bring her food trays despite her being there OVER a week. They've left patients soiled, to their own devices (even if they shouldn't be). The worst part is, we're not sure if we can MOVE her out. She's NOT mobile. She can't get out of bed to sit up, much less take three steps to a wheelchair.

When I was 10/11 I had strep throat basically every single day for 2 years because the bacteria lived in my tonsils so I kept getting reinfected every time the antibiotic course ended (I was also on high dose antibiotics every day for around 3 years but that’s another story) and when my tonsils were removed, the very experienced ENT told me that they were hands down the worst tonsils she had ever seen in her life. She described them as “swiss cheese” with craters and holes. My biggest regret in life is that I was never able to keep my tonsils after removal because they had to be sent to a lab. Imagine if I could have kept them in a jar and used them as room decor????

[Covid] presents with a wide range of symptoms, mainly respiratory symptoms, but with time various neurological manifestations of the disease have also been noted, like myelitis. This case report aims to shed light on COVID-19-associated myelitis so that potential neurological complications of COVID-19 can be identified and treated timely. We report a case of a 41-year-old male who presented with weakness of all limbs with urinary complaints. He also had a cough and sore throat for the past few days. The MRI scan of the spine showed long segment myelitis in the cervical cord extending from the cervicomedullary junction to the upper end of the C4 vertebral body. The MRI scan of the brain showed no abnormality. However, MRI with contrast of the whole spine showed a long segment hyperintense lesion in the cervical cord extending from the cervicomedullary junction to the upper end of the C4 vertebral body in the sagittal view in T2-weighted (T2W) images. The axial view of the cervical spinal cord showed T2 hyperintense lesions on the right side. These hyperintense lesions were not contrast-enhancing lesions. Thus, the patient was clinically suspected to be a case of para-infectious COVID-19 myelitis. He was given intravenous steroids (methylprednisolone 1 gram daily) for five days, followed by tapering dosages of oral steroids for four weeks. He started showing improvement, and after about five weeks of initiation of treatment, he could walk without support and void urine without any problem. Transverse myelitis (spinal cord inflammation) can cause symptoms such as weakness in limbs, sensory loss, urinary or bowel disturbances, and sexual dysfunction [5]. The cause of transverse myelitis can be unknown (idiopathic), associated with autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematous, anti-MOG related disease, neuromyelitis optica, or after bacterial, viral, or fungal infection, paraneoplastic syndrome, or post-vaccination. MRI scan of the spine plays a crucial role in diagnosing myelitis and demarcating the involved segments. Based on the MRI findings, myelitis can be called short segment myelitis (when the length of T2 hyperintense lesions in sagittal MRI images is less than three vertebral segments) or longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis (LETM), when the lesions are equal to or more than three vertebral segments long Corticosteroids serve as the first line of treatment for COVID-19 myelitis [16]. However, if the patient does not improve, intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) or plasmapheresis can be helpful. Myelitis is a rare but important neurological manifestation of COVID-19. The clinical picture, CSF analysis, serological analysis, and radiological investigations such as MRI of the spine help to rule out the differential diagnoses. Corticosteroids serve as the mainstay of treatment. It is essential to understand that COVID-19 myelitis if identified quickly and managed without delay can result in a better prognosis in patients.

And *I,* instead, of course, read this as “if you find yourself displaying uncharacteristic friendliness and a lack of fear of humans, you’re just as likely to have rabies as someone with overt aggression” and didn’t bat an eye regarding the secret rabies my anxiety instead manifested
while we're talking about it this is your friendly PSA that uncharacteristic friendliness and lack of fear of humans is just as much of a sign of a rabies infection as overt aggression. and if you're bitten by a wild animal (or have any reason to believe you were unknowingly bitten ex. bats found in your home) DO NOT TAKE THE FUCKING RISK.

i keep thinking about the substance
thought 1 is how the most unsettling parts were the realistic moments, and when it became more unrealistic/absurd it was still a fun movie but it started to feel more dark comedy. If it had stayed closer to real aging, like how your senses decline, or if there were dementia like symptoms, or looking at how strokes can change you, etc, I think the horror would have been far more chilling. idk as a regular visitor to long term care and seeing people nearing the end of their lives, it just really felt like "oooh look at the scary extreme aging!" and like... that's not what that looks like.
thought 2 is how i'd love another movie following the same idea of the substance and how it worked, but like with the two halves actually having a relationship and finding a way to coexist (not nec. a happy ending, but actually having a relationship with each other would have been interesting to see, even if it ended in mutual destruction).
Also, what if: Dorian Grey but with the Substance

Spinal infections are typically caused by bacteria or fungi. These microorganisms can enter the spine through various means, including bloodstream infections, surgical procedures, or infections in nearby tissues.
Conditions like diabetes, immunosuppression, or intravenous drug use can increase the risk of developing spinal infections. In some cases, the specific cause may be challenging to identify.
Diagnosis of spinal infections involves a combination of medical history review, physical examination, and diagnostic tests. Imaging studies such as MRI or CT scans are often crucial for identifying abscesses, osteomyelitis, or discitis in the spine. Blood cultures and other laboratory tests help determine the causative microorganism.
A biopsy may be performed in certain cases to confirm the diagnosis and guide appropriate treatment.
While routine health checkups can identify some general health issues, they may not always specifically detect spinal infections early. Spinal infections often present with symptoms such as back pain, fever, and neurological changes, which may prompt further investigation.
However, including spine-related assessments or imaging studies as part of comprehensive health checkups can contribute to the early detection of certain spinal conditions. Get full body health checkup at the best hospitals in India, for early detection and better treatment for various spinal conditions.

I read a recent article talking about how spinal injuries can cause disruption in the spleen, like a loss of spleen cells and a decreased ability to fight viral infections. After Bruce got his back broken by bane, I bet he had spleen issues. So maybe he and Tim throw "no spleen" parties as a nice father-son bonding time
I wish I could say I thought they bond over it, but in all actuality they probably never talk about it until that time every few months when Bruce grumpily has to track down and inject Tim with his whatever-shot he developed and Tim turns it into a stupid extended game of chase so Bruce just waits until he’s in a WE elevator with civilians, walks in, jabs Tim in the thigh, and gives him a look before heading to the executive offices. Which I guess is a roundabout way of bonding over it for them?
