notes: first time writing for marco … hope I did him justice! also I never know what to call this kind of post… is it a fic? maybe? yes? no?

In only a few days, an unknown illness spread like wildfire throughout Sphinx, preying primarily on young children and the elderly. Marco had quickly deduced it had transferred from a trading ship that landed a few days prior but would have never guessed it would take your small town by storm.

It was the first time in a while that the two of you had to pull an all-nighter to care for sick patients. But the two of you were in sync, tending to patients with the utmost care and taking the right measurements to avoid getting infected yourself.

“Marco, where’s the extra antibiotics?”

“Right here, doc!”

Despite being his assistant, he always jokingly referred to you as ‘doc’ when the two of you were working, but the small smile that appeared on his face meant he truly admired your hard work.

But as the night turned into day, the two of you realized that the curtains of this epidemic were not falling anytime soon.

Days passed, and you and Marco were overwhelmed with patients from left to right. There was barely any time to rest—you were missing meals to take naps that lasted minutes before springing back up to take care of the next patient. The last decent conversation you had with Marco felt like ages ago, and only time could tell when you’d have another quiet moment with him.

You and Marco had designated times to check in with each other, but with so many patients that needed immediate care, the check-ins became scribbles on post-it notes scattered in the office. During a brief passing, Marco noticed something slightly off with your demeanor.

“Y/n, if you need a break, take one. You’ve been running around since—,”

“It’s okay, Marco. Don’t worry about me—see?”

You smiled weakly, trying to force your eyelids from drooping so low. You knew you could use a break, and yet the influx of patients was too great to ignore. Your only option was to keep on moving.

Marco frowned, wishing he was able to take on the burden himself. Just before he was about to say something else, another patient had walked in with a yelp. His face was plastered with worry as he glanced back at you, and you simply gave a nod of approval before heading to the storage to pick up some more supplies. You didn't want him to worry about you when there were patients' lives on the line.

The long days of the mysterious illness were finally coming to an end, and with the help of a temporary assistant, the burden of the entire epidemic had slightly been lifted off of your shoulders. But before you could get to your last patient, your movements slowed and suddenly your world turned black. The last thing you saw was a frantic Marco headed your way.

He was absolutely distraught. He noticed your unusual movements from the corner of his eye, dashing in your direction with unrivaled speed when he realized you were fainting. Marco was never one to show his emotions so blatantly, but your limp body in his arms had his worst nightmares turning into a reality.

“Y/n? Y/n!”

You were alive—thank fuck. But you were knocked out cold which meant anything could happen. He placed the back of his hand on your forehead—a fever. How could he have missed this? His worries earlier were spot on, but they somehow slipped past him.

Marco was quick to take action. The remaining patients could be taken care of by the temp, so he took the responsibility of nursing you back to health. Within minutes, he’d gathered your things and took you back to your home.

As you slept, he took care of you with quiet fervor. He was never gone for more than a few seconds at a time, making sure he was watching your every move. When he settled beside your bed after changing your clothes into something more comfortable, he did something quite uncharacteristic.

Marco closed his eyes as his calloused hands gently brought your hand to his lips, and he murmured,

“Y/n, please—please, wake up soon.”

And as if on command, your eyes slowly opened. His head was down as he silently prayed for your good health. You watched him quietly, unaware that he could be such a worrywart. It made you laugh, but just the slightest bit.

“I’m right here, Marco.”

He lifted his head with such force, you'd think something had yanked his head up. But the look in his eyes told you everything. He carefully pulled you toward his body, his arms wrapping around you so tight that you thought he was trying to merge the two of you into one.

“You’re the only one I have in this life, Y/n. Please, promise me that you’ll take care of yourself.”

Warnings: mating seasons, general time frame in HAE AU (by chapter 50)

It's approximately halfway through October.

Most mating seasons- for the non-fae guys- are in Spring, but it ultimately depends on the species.

Malleus' season- and most Night Fae's seasons (Lilia and Sebek) are in Winter when the nights are longest and they feel most comfortable. Day Fae- Kida- tend to have a mating season in the Summer when the day is longer.

Some Fauns and Satyr have their seasons twice- Autumn and Spring- but both Ace and Deuce are from a warmer climate so they have their season in spring more often than fall.

For Nymphs, it depends on what kind of Nymph they are. Water Nymphs and Plant Nymphs tend to have their seasons in Spring when the thaw hits. Fire Nymphs have their season in Fall when the world is going dormant and kindling is abundant. Air Nymphs tend to have their seasons in Summer or Spring during windier months.

The Ungulates- Minotaur, Cervitaur, centaur, pegasi, unicorns- tend to have their seasons late spring.

Harpies and Sirens mate early spring.

For the feline species- Bakeneko, Sphinx, Nemean Lions- their seasons are determined by sunlight. The sunnier it is, the more likely they are to go into their mating seasons.

For Genies, Yeti, Sasquatch, and Shadowfolk, they don't have seasons. Shadowfolk, Yeti, and Sasquatch have similar reproductive cycles as Humans. Genies are just incredibly fertile year round. Kalim could impregnate any and all species and genders. Doesn't matter if you have a womb or not, Kalim can still knock you up even without having intimacy with you.

Selkies mate around late December early January.

Shinigami prefer dark and cold for their mating seasons, so those outside of Tartarus mate in winter. Tartarus is almost always dark and cold, so Shinigami in Tartarus mate whenever.

Reclining in a camellia bush which had remained reassuringly green, although it had yet to show any sign of flower buds, Algy lay back in the mild, damp air and listened to the hooded crows cawing mournfully somewhere in the talll spruces nearby, where in spring they would build their nest.

Their calls were as muffled and altered as the appearance of the trees, for the mist ensnared both sight and sound, and Algy was reminded of a mystical mist poem by Carl Sandburg:

I know for a fact you're asking this cause you know i've designed some of their fursonas before 🫵 anyways. I have multiple Nico fursona designs. I think he'd absolutely be the "ORIGINAL OC DO NOT STEAL" emo black-and-red winged demon wolfdog type of kid. He would unironically adore that kind of thing. Very Shadow The Hedgehog-core (and he probably would name it Shadow). Aside from that though, I think he'd really like a skulldog or skulldog plushie, which is what I usually do for if he got a fursuit. Generally something hellhound vibes, but with the plushie version specifically him having the stitches on it look like his shoulder scars and having a lil hidden stuffed heart on it (also i think his fursuit having absolute zero dexterity would be funny). In my zootopia au I did also make him either a general bat or vampire bat, so I could also see him having a bat fursona.

Jason's fursona is no question. Wolf with lightning bolt markings. Easy. Same with Leo's - dragon. His fursona is just Festus. Close second though - primagen/protogen. Hazel's i've also thought about a lot and I think she'd have a dutch angel dragon cause they're based off of horses. I could also see her with just a straight up horse or pony fursona, but I think if she did have one it'd lean more MLP-sona so for purposes of sticking purely to dedicated fursona - dutchie. Percy I think would have a manokit. I also associate him with otters and seals but he absolutely deserves a manokit. Maybe also a sergal but definitely leaning more manokit.

Rest of Argo II crew - Annabeth having an owl or other bird is a given. Her with a sphinx would also be amusing. Frank I could see having a dragon or bear. Piper I do not know, but I'm gonna be self-indulgent and go with wuffies, which was an original species I was an artist for back in the day (think eeveelutions but the ears and tails are unique for every wuffy) though i haven't decided what her ears/tail would be. I could see her having a pokemon fursona too but idk what. Maybe a sylveon. Reyna's definitely would be horse-related somehow - maybe just a pegasus. Bonuses - I can't decide on one specific animal, but whatever Alex's fursona is, it's green and pink and has snake fangs. For sure. Tbh she'd probably just have one billion sonas/characters and half of them are hybrids and even more have snake features. Magnus' I think would be some kind of spring-ish animal, cause he has the whole spring/summer theme. I could see him as a basic golden lab/golden retriever but he could potentially make it more interesting.

Arguably one of the most famous Ancient Egyptian deities recognized in the modern world, Anubis (jnpw), known to the Egyptians as Anpu, is an icon of the ancient world. From books to movies, his likeness still remains a favourite, and he is recognized worldwide, often springing to mind when Ancient Egypt is mentioned in entertainment or even in passing conversation.

Even those least knowledgeable on Ancient Egyptian history are aware of his image; the famous black jackal headed man or full-bodied jackal laying proudly like a sphinx has been etched in the human psyche, and he remains a symbol of Egypt past and present.

Since the earliest days of Ancient Egypt, Anubis was a protector of the dead, guide of the Underworld, protector of graves and the god of embalming.

It is thought that the jackal became associated with death due to their roaming presence around the Pre Dynastic cemeteries and burial sites. It is thought that the idea of the jackal being a protective deity for the dead came from this. It is easy to believe that a roaming pack of wild dogs warning off grave robbers or perhaps delinquent spiritual entities became rather comforting to those mourning their loved ones. However, this is of course impossible to know and is conjecture at best.

Despite Anubis being depicted more often than not with his jackal form, be it full bodied or head alone, there is a rare glimpse of Anubis in human form that appears within the Temple of Ramesses II at Abydos. In this wonderful photograph taken by Manna4u at flickr, you have a wonderful, high quality glimpse at an absolutely rare depiction of the god Anpu/Anubis.

Anubis firmly stands in pop culture as the jackal headed god, yet recent studies have somewhat shaken this idea, as DNA analysis of the Egyptian Jackal, actually proves their species descends from the wolf, and is of the gray wolf family.

Today's small victory: I got the new guy I'm building together and standing. I think the Beastboss on Squigosaur looks cool, but:

1) It's, like, $80 for the kit. I do not have $80 to spare.

2) My Orks are all gearheads, so a single big squig doesn't fit in.

3) I have a giant pile of excess parts. This is partially why I don't have $80.

Yes, that's the head off a WHFB Tomb Sphinx. I've been holding onto that head for a couple of years looking for a good use for it.

Here's the whole body from another angle, I had to lengthen the legs to get it around the right height. I won't be able to prime outside until spring, so this is all you're going to see of this for a while.
