Happy Audio Drama Sunday! It’s a beautiful day in the vacation spot where I find myself this weekend, and the week was full of beautiful audio fiction. Shall we?
🐭 I am a firm believer that everyone is sleeping on Counterbalance. This is a high fantasy story that starts out with a magical scholar trying to fix a tear in the fabric of magic, and then you realize this magical scholar is a feathery mouse person when she meets someone super weird-looking: a human. The worldbuilding is superb, the sound design and acting gorgeous, and I didn’t even get to the third member of the trio, Malaki! This week’s episode was especially meaningful. A huge sacrifice, a revelation, several moments of honest vulnerability. I’m crie. Go listen to Counterbalance.
🍔 Midnight Burger is always. So good. Look, the sheep this week were great, but that wasn’t even my favorite part. David is everything to me, and I’m desperate for him to stay in Casper’s life, although not as desperate as Casper. The revelation about Gloria’s past was PROFOUND. And I am literally always here for Leif throwing down with the federal government. Please shoot DARPA. They deserve it.
🔥 Hey @theheartpyre, thank you for this bonus episode about Logan and Finn. I love them. They should kiss maybe?
🌊 What do you even SAY about @thesiltverses? That the culmination of Faulkner’s hubris has finally come to get him, and I don’t feel sorry for him even a little bit? That HR Owen’s performance as Sibling Rain was absolutely chilling? That I want to see Carpenter wreck shop but I Fear??? How is this going to end?
🐲 How we feeling about Inn Between? I’m so proud of the finale and so excited for what’s next. I’m maybe…a third of the way done writing season six? We’ll see how the rest goes.
🧟♀️ This week we start recording our new story for The Dead! I’m also privileged to get to be a producer on @shelterwoodpod, and I’ll be doing some work for them too this week. Keep a weather eye out late this summer for their premier! This show is going to be so good.
See you next week!

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I've had a nice bit of time for listening this week so have been catching up on some favourites and new-to-mes!
First up, I finally caught up on @thesiltverses after dropping off for a couple of weeks and oh God this show simply continues to do it like nobody else. And I'm not just saying that because I'm in this week's ep (though I am, and doing rather marvellously if I say so myself. Nobody ever found so many different ways to say, "High Prophet!" 😉😂)
I also blasted through @redvalleypod, which I can't believe I didn't get round to before. Made me laugh out loud, often several times per episode, with brilliant moments of depth and darkness. Also got jumpscared by my cousin showing up at one point playing a side character 😅
Still working my way through @theheartpyre, which remains enormously good fun. If you like the CYOA elements of Travelling Light, THP are doing it on hard mode with a vote every episode 🤩 The characters are fab and I love how the world is unfolding as I listen!
As I mentioned in the intro this week's ep, I've also been working through Chaika's back catalogue, from @y2kpod. It's such a gorgeous show! 😍 Also, if you read our annotated scripts you know I'm a sucker for etymology, and the language stuff in Chaika is 😘👌
Finally, I've also been dabbling in some non-fiction podding with ADWIT (The Audio Drama Writers' Independent Toolkit), which shares tips and insights on writing for audio fiction! Only just started listening but already having a great time 💕 Don't think they're on Tumblr but please tag them if I'm mistaken!
How about you lot - what's been catching your ears this week? Any recs? Let me know!

I'm at WorldCon in Glasgow this week and if you're also here, you can get some stickers and bookmarks at the freebies library, but come quick, apparently people really like stickers and I don't have any more of them 😬

Ever wanted a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure but as a podcast? Check out The Heart Pyre!
“The Heart Pyre is an interactive dark epic fantasy audio drama. After each episode, listeners can vote for how the story should continue. It follows 16-year-old Rena as she finds herself the sole survivor of a mysterious fire that destroyed her home town. She knows the fire wasn’t an accident, even if the authorities try to tell her otherwise. With the help of a group of companions she finds along the way, Rena tries to uncover the truth about what happened to her family and her hometown, and according to one of her companions, Oceansthrow isn’t the first town destroyed by a mysterious fire that the Royal Council is trying to cover up.
Fans of TTRPGs and Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style stories will enjoy the interactive nature of this podcast, while those who loved the underlying hope of The Lord of the Rings series will find a similar theme in this show.
The first season is already released and ready to binge while season two will start releasing later 2023. If you want just a taste of this story, you can check out their trailer here.
You can learn more about The Heart Pyre by checking them out on their website or following them on Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram, all found at @theheartpyre

Audio drama sunday!
Crossposted from twitter as usual. None next week as I will be in a field encouraging war crimes sorry I mean VIRTUE at LARP.
I am part way through and would like to congratulate @theheartpyre on the clever harem anime bait and switch. "Aha!" I thought "The YA protagonist will now have to choose between the mischievous rogue and the sarky military man…..wait….no, never mind the rogue and the military guy are flirting with each other..."
First episode of Surcease is intriguing. Also looking forward to more tales from this totally not sus psychiatric health facility which clearly has no dark secrets or anything.
Caught up on the Cellar Letters, spent E53 like "Jamie so help me if you leave Bella in that house ALONE…oh thank goodness." I'm still really very worried about that dog.
Went through of @chainofbeing for reasons. Wow. I was not expecting a sprawling epic Dune-but-queerer anime-vibes religious space opera. Looking forward to more of this. Have a good week everyone!

literally no one was doing it like natsuno yuuki. he was genre savvy but he was also fucking gay so he still died. after his death he started dressing like the google search results for gay vampire. his only friends were his homoerotic bestie, an adult medical professional speed running his descent into madness, and two random kids he dug up his stalker’s grave with. he became a vampire and was immediately better at it than all of the other vampires but he thought they were bitches so he didn’t even tell them he turned. his last words was that he was never going to make it out of that town alive but if anyone could have it was him and that’s what makes him so tragic. he died trying to save someone who was never ever going to save him back. he wasn’t afraid to die because he was already dead. he burned the entire town to the ground mourning his own death and he didn’t do it to save a single goddamn person, he did it because they murdered him and he was going to fucking hurt them back for it. I’m obsessed with him

Audio Drama Sunday - 26/11/23
Happy Audio Drama Sunday, friends! This week has also been largely dominated by Murderbot BUT I did manage to squeeze some of that GOOD PODDY GOODNESS in as well!
I polished off the last of @vestaclinicpod and absolutely loved it! It's such a fun, cosy wee show with a really strong premise, and you can just feel how much fun everyone involved is having😍
I also started @theheartpyre who are doing a way more intensive choose-your-own-adventure thing than Travelling Light - super impressed, it's already enough work for me to do it every few weeks so this is a workload not to be sniffed at 🤩 I love seeing how each choice turns the story in a new direction, and it's always a joy to hear an accent in AD that isn't American or London 💖
The latest episode of @the-mistholme-museum was as delightful as ever - love to hear Dom singing the praises of a billionaire businessman with a penchant for altering reality... 😉
And finally I binged all four eps (so far!) of @eelerschoice and WHOO! I'm always here for eldritch marine life, and the world they've built here is absolutely compelling. I love finding out more about how the magic works, and the characters are so rich and full of life!

Bonus Episode "Hidden Connections" is out now!
This is the second bonus episode from Logan’s POV as he and Finn try to find out more about Captain Silac from the people at Hrevim's palace, but how trustworthy can the information they get from bored nobles who have nothing better to do than gossip truly be?
Next episode we'll turn our attention back to Rena and the rest of the group and we'll get back to the voting system, but first I’m leaving for WorldCon tomorrow so if anyone else will be there over the weekend, come and say hi and maybe I’ll have a sticker for you

Good Sunday My Dudes [Gen Neut.]
Lou is home this weekend and not down the data mines so here's what have I caught up on this week.
Chaika - What's going on on Mars?? I'm really quite worried about what's going on on Mars. It's so ominous. But at least there are nice plants.
The Heart Pyre - The last few episodes have reminded me of the old adages about bravery being when you're terrified but doing it anyway, and if the descriptions of Reva's anxiety are anything to go by that girl is immensely brave.
Ghost Wax - I finished going through series one, which got better as it went on, and then proceeded to break my heart with the ending.
Late to the Deviser party, what a teeth-grindingly nightmarish ordeal for my ears that was. Amazing work, 14/10 would exclaim "Harlan what the f-" again.
Also: Woe.Begone has incorrect opinions about mushy peas and I will die on this green and delicious hill.
