In the original timeline, Kraang won because Leo interfered with getting the key. In the new timeline, Leo won because Kraang dodged Leo's sword instead of stopping it. Their respective cockiness made them lose.

The fact that the world (and history itself) was dependent on who was going to fuck up at the last second between these two prideful bastards is just wild to me.

can i ask where the concept of ninpo and mystics being separate things that the turtles have both of came from, for you? this isn't the first time i've encountered that and it's caught me off guard both times, so i'm curious as to where the idea stems from.

Okay, so they're not completely separate things, but it's like how all tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises. "Mystics" is mostly a catch-all term that includes the boys ninpo, but it's a little... inaccurate, for lack of a better word.

The way I see it, the Hamato clan ninpo is a mystic art that's been cultivated so long that it's basically shifted a little left of being truly... mystic, in the way yokai know of it. All this means, is that ninpo can not be learned in the 'ususal' way mystics are, you have to meet very specific conditions in order to use it.

It also means that, in the world of residuum, anti-mysitic doesn't last as long/completely work on ninpo. Which brings me to: The Kraang. Or, well, the scream that disables the boys mystics/ninpo.

Now, this isn't exactly relevant to residuum, but this is based off of some observations on the kraang and some knowledge on how traits in species evolve. The scream they have implies some stuff.

That kraang come from a planet that has mystics.

The scream helps them thrive in some way. And as they presumably dominate their planet. The scream is either a defense mechanism or a hunting tool. (the thought of kraang being evolutionarily preyed upon amuses me.)

It doesn't really matter which, but presumably that disabling effect lasts for much longer than it did on the boys. And as the thing that reactivated their mystics was basically the source of their ninpo... I can only conclude that ninpo is effected by stuff differently than mystics. Thus making it a separate thing.

Casey Jr is trans and when he came out to Casey they both went on a mission together and then Casey Jr got swept up by a kraang.

The Kraang is going on about how humans are inferior and then it's like "I WILL TEAR YOUR DAUGHTER LIMB FROM LIMB!"

Casey just whacks it and she says "EXCUSE YOU THAT IS MY SON!" Then the Kraang stops a minute, just holding Casey Jr by one of his legs and then the Kraang looks at him. "Sorry."

Then it looks at Casey and it's like "I WILL TEAR YOUR SON LIMB FROM LIMB! How's that?"

"Better, thank you. NOW PERISH!"

Some of my personal favorite parts and drawings from the Firefight animatic based on @remedyturtles's fic.

I really like the 'characters rotating anime opening'. And I love the symbolism of the twins starting with reaching for each other, only for Leo to limply keep spinning past and drifting away. Would love to have it animated slow and smooth.

This scene is one of my favorite scenes. I'm very happy how the cuts match the music and especially the last drop to shocked Leo.

I like his face, very handsome. I'm not as established with how I draw the rise turtles compared to 2k3 boys, so it was fascinating to see how it'd morph over me drawing them like 100 times in a short period of time. They definitely got more elongated facial shapes and Don a sturdier body build compared to canon (I wanted to emphasize him being a bit blockier compared to Leo).

Reeeeally like Don's pose in this and the overall composition and movement of the shot. Very dynamic and dramatic.

Aaand the money shot #2 All the previews I shared while I was working on the animatic, were ones that I'm very happy with. But this one is very special. I like that someone was able to guess Firefight based only from it, haha.

I'm a big fan of the visual trope of characters turning to gaze at each other meaningfully, conveying things without saying anything. So there's a lot of that in this animatic. I really wanted to get Donnie's expression right, his sorrow and determination, and I'm happy with the result.

Back shots are fun. They can express a lot of emotion while concealing what the character is truly feeling. The drawing of Don grappling fallen Leo is one of my top favorites from the animatic, I just really like how it looks. Overall I like this whole scene a lot.

And of course, THE money shot #1. The culmination of it all. I'm very proud of the animated bits too, but I made them their own post.

I would've loved if the movie ended with Leo still in the Prison Dimension. Not just because of the angst, but because Leo and Kraang would've been each other's warden.

Because imagine if Leo didn't immediately give up when the portal closed. Imagine if he constantly gave it his all and fought Kraang every second of every day. But neither one was winning.

We could've had Leo and Kraang in a stalemate for months. Raph, Donnie, and Mikey racing against the clock because Leo can't fight forever.

Mikey is only strong enough to open a portal for a few seconds. And, every time he does, he sees the both of them fighting tooth and nail just to overpower the other. Mikey's never seen Leo this intense. This ruthless.

The longer Leo is in the prison dimension, the more ruthless he gets. There's a reason Kraang hasn't been able to kill him yet....

It gets to the point where, unknowing to Raph and Donnie, Mikey questions whether or not Leo should be allowed out of the prison dimension-
