Mental Objects vs. Virtual Objects
Both mental objects (thoughts, concepts, and imaginations) and virtual objects (digital artifacts, AI-generated entities, and simulated environments) challenge traditional notions of existence. While they share some similarities, they also have distinct differences in how they originate, function, and interact with the world.
1. Similarities Between Mental and Virtual Objects
1.1. Non-Physical Existence
Both exist without a direct material form.
A mental object (e.g., the idea of a unicorn) exists in the mind.
A virtual object (e.g., a character in a video game) exists in a digital space.
1.2. Dependence on a Substrate
Mental objects depend on biological cognition (the brain).
Virtual objects depend on computational processing (hardware/software).
Neither exists as standalone physical entities but requires a medium to be instantiated.
1.3. Ephemeral and Modifiable
Both can be created, changed, or erased at will.
A thought can be reimagined, just as a digital object can be edited or deleted.
They are not fixed like physical objects but dynamic in nature.
1.4. Representation-Based Existence
Both exist as representations rather than tangible things.
A mental image of a tree represents a tree but is not an actual tree.
A 3D-rendered tree in a virtual world represents a tree but is not physically real.
2. Differences Between Mental and Virtual Objects
2.1. Origin and Creation
Mental objects arise from individual cognition (thought, memory, imagination).
Virtual objects are created through external computation (coding, rendering, algorithms).
2.2. Subjectivity vs. Objectivity
Mental objects are subjective—they exist uniquely for the thinker.
Virtual objects are inter-subjective—they exist digitally and can be experienced by multiple people.
2.3. Interaction and Persistence
Mental objects are internal and exist only within the thinker’s mind.
Virtual objects exist externally in a digital system and can be interacted with by multiple users.
2.4. Stability Over Time
Mental objects are fleeting and can be forgotten or altered by an individual.
Virtual objects have greater persistence (e.g., stored in a database, backed up, retrievable).
2.5. Causality and Impact on the World
Mental objects influence individual perception and behavior but do not directly alter external reality.
Virtual objects can have real-world consequences (e.g., digital currencies, online identities, NFTs).
3. The Blurring Boundary: Where Do They Overlap?
AI-generated art is a virtual object that mimics mental creativity.
VR and AR technologies blend mental perception with digital objects.
Philosophical questions arise: Are virtual worlds just externalized thought spaces?
Conclusion
Mental objects and virtual objects are both non-physical, dynamic, and representation-based, but they differ in origin, persistence, and external impact. The digital age continues to blur the lines between thought and simulation, raising deeper questions about what it means for something to exist.

if the events of m.ass effect 1 were not so time-constrained. shepard would spend the majority of it having the time of his life on pinnacle station

strap in for this week's fic flavor: the failsafe episode of season one of the young justice cartoon except the simulation just won't. fuckin. end.
(fics that inspired this at the end)
If I ever did sit down to make my own fic, I'd split it in 3 parts:
The Simulation: bits and pieces of the 40 years Dick lives after most everyone he knows has died
The Return: the immediate aftermath and healing from the trauma of having not-quite-actually lived a whole life only to wake up and find out it was all fake. nothing traumatizing about that whatsoever.
The Unintended Consequence: aka the twist I'd love to add and would hint to in the second part - finding out the simulation, through martian mind fuckery, pulled from the real world (and in many cases, from real minds). Dick meets a bunch of people he didn't think were real outside the confines of his simulated life. A bunch of rowdy, heroism-inclined teens across the years get to meet the sibling/friend/mentor figure they all dreamed up one night.
(actual idea snippets under the cut)
.
Dick Grayson is 14 and most of the world's heroes have died. He planned a suicide mission that left him the sole survivor of a doomed team he helped found. The invasion may have been stopped, but is this really the price he wanted to pay?
The first face he sees in the infirmary is Roy's, and he has to close his eyes and just breathe for a few minutes because for one painful moment he'd thought it was Wally. But this isn't the world where his best friend miraculously survived alongside him. This is the one where he got his best friend killed and didn't even give him the courtesy of following behind him. Behind them.
.
Dick Grayson is 27 and has lived longer without Bruce than with him. The invasion's anniversary is always a tough day for him, but that morning seems especially harrowing. He'll get shit for it later, but can't resist stepping out onto the balcony of the manor's master bedroom (Bruce's old bedroom) for a smoke -- his first since he'd promised to quit if Jason, just 15 then, did too.
"Bad habits tend to pile up," he'd said, a rueful quirk to his tired grin. He'd tapped the cigarette twice on the railing and added, lower, "and this one's especially nasty, huh."
He inhales, watches the sun creep across the horizon, and lets acrid smoke burn through his lungs for a long moment before blowing it out in a small cloud. His eyes water, but he doesn't cough. It tastes just as bad as it did the first time he smoked one, not even a year after the invasion and treading water as Robin proved insufficient.
There hadn't been enough heroes to go around then, and Dick had been trained by one of the best. It hadn't been fair, but it had been his plan that had ultimately stopped the invasion. His shoulders everyone's expectations fell on.
He takes another drag, then smudges the lit end against the rail he's leaned on when he hears a boot scuff purposefully against the roofing above him.
"Todd and Pennyworth will be upset with you."
He doesn't turn around. Damian doesn't jump down to join him.
.
Dick Grayson is 54 and wakes up in a room full of ghosts. He hears his long-dead father-figure tell his long-dead team about a simulation they weren't meant to win. A training exercise gone wrong and only half a day spent under their mentors' careful, if slightly panicked, supervision.
He looks at his hands, watching the way his gloves crease when he flexes them in and out of tight fists. He looks at his team, their eyes a little haunted but shoulders slumped with relief even as they grumble. Batman's heavy, gloved hand settles on his shoulder and the weight of it is a nauseating mix of foreign-familiar.
He opens his mouth. Closes it.
Tears prick his eyes behind his domino mask, and he tells himself the suffocating, acidic void building in his chest is just some leftover side effect of the ordeal and not the grief-guilt of outliving yet another family (no matter that they hadn't been real in the end).
.
Dick Grayson is 16-going-on-56 and well used to the coincidences piling up between his simulated life and the real thing. Some of it -- missions and villains he remembers cropping up -- he's marked for Bruce to review and sort as he pleases. Some -- security for the cave, team building anecdotes, and training regimens -- he's shared with the team. And some he keeps only for himself.
Tim is one of those. He knows it's not fair to the kid (so much smaller now than he ever was when Dick lived his simulated life), but he can't help being selfish just for this. Tim is the one kid he's sure he didn't make up, and if Dick's taken to babysitting the kid just to be near at least one member of the family he built for himself in the wake of the worst days of his life .... Well, anyone who says shit about it can happily stand in line to have their teeth kicked in.
Despite this, it still catches him off-guard when he sees a familiar face pop up in one of Bruce's reports.
Jason Todd, caught boosting tires off the batmobile, is nearly the same age now as he was when Dick met him. He stares at the words, but none of them really sink in beyond the kid's name and address. He's moving before he's even made the decision.
He's used to the world kicking him when he's down - lived it for 40 frustrating years. But he has Bruce again. And things with Tim have been so good. And he's always been selfish when it comes to family. If he could just see Jason. If he could just meet him. If he could talk to him.
If if if if if--

Like I *get* folks' concerns about a possible retcon of all the fun development from 15-17 but also I do Not seriously believe that's what's gonna happen. Not out of any grand overwhelming faith in the writers (though I am hopeful about that!) but literally just b/c like. A buncha of the OG crew is back to writing/directing? It's the final season? Y'all really expect this to get played straight????

Random thought, but I think it's funny how "vampires vs werewolves" is such a big trope, considering that the most iconic vampire of all time IS a werewolf.
"You mean Dracula?"
Yes I mean Dracula. Dracula is a werewolf, straight up. In Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula transforms into a wolf multiple times. He also transforms into a bat and a cloud of fog. He actually transforms into a wolf more often than anything else, with Dracula turning into a bat only once and turning into a large bat-like creature on another occasion.
"But he's not a real werewolf! He doesn't transform under the moon!"
Wrong again! Lycanthropes and folkloric wolf shape-shifters go all the way back to the myth of King Lycaon, first recorded in the 2nd Century BC. Werewolves specifically (and the term "werewolf") go back at least as far as the 11th Century AD, originating from the Old German word "Werwolf". The first depictions of werewolves transforming under moonlight aren't actually from folklore, but movies. The first werewolf to transform under moonlight was from the film "Werewolf of London" (1935), though it wasn't necessarily under the full moon, with even simulated moonlight from a lamp triggering the transformation. The first depiction of a full moon causing werewolf transformations was in "Wolf Man" (1941), released 44 years after Bram Stoker's Dracula was published.
So Dracula is a werewolf. A true, blue, motherfucking werewolf. Other folkloric vampires that pre-date the Dracula novel were also described as having the ability to transform into wolves, or even abnormally large wolf-like dogs.
Your werewolf/vampire hybrid OC is nothing new. Countless OG Vampires WERE werewolves. Witch/Werewolf hybrids are even older than that. It's tradition. A forgotten tradition but a tradition nonetheless, you're just continuing it without even realizing that it's a tale as old as time.

I had a dream/ prophetic vision of a RP chat program that had like a bunch of features like a side chat for ooc chat, to the ability to set emoji for mood for each post and something called a dating Sim mode where you could upload your own character art and every time you sent a message the character would change their emotion like in a dating Sim. Also there was features like the background being changeable to reflect the weather and time of day. And it was like super customizable.
I have not rp'd for years.
Tumblr media
it looked like this
shared music stream, weather changes, can pick emotions to send along with ur message so ur character would express that emotion (animated angry or laughter effects) custom uploadable sprites with animated options (for blinking, talking) sound effects to customize. u could upload dating sim style short voice lines, "ahs?", and "oh!" to accompany the posts. ppl could build character packs to share online
ingame notepads for character notes, events.
distinct separation of "characters" and "users" so you can really immerse yourself. peer-to-peer connection options as well as servers (privacy vs convenience) nsfw modes and the ability to mark character packs as NSFW. packs that include different outfit options for a fully robust system. custom poses that dont link to common emotions.
simulated inventory (not actual) with "toss gift use" ect and item packs
more dating sim elements could be added like affection meters, exhaustion, calendar systems, holiday notifications (fully controllable!) to really send vibes
multi-character control or shared control for NPCs or 2+ character RPs with turn system. dice roller and coin flipper/fail-success for randomizing outcomes.
anyway wanted to scratch it down before i lost the thought process from my dream

Do you think that A/G/S and Zack would try that 100 gorillas vs one person challenge through VR training room?
I feel like there's genuinely nothing they wouldn't try in the VR room. One week it's standard mission replays, the next it's some unhinged thought experiment like "could a single SOLDIER beat 100 gorillas." It ends with animal control being called to extract 100 gorillas from the premises— Kunsel supplied them because, of course, he knows a guy — and now Angeal, Genesis, and Zack are sitting in Lazard's office, covered in scratches.
Lazard: I understand the curiosity behind the experiment, but why—why—in the name of Gaia would you summon 100 actual gorillas onto Shinra property?
Genesis: Technically 98. Kunsel's gorilla guy had a supply issue.
Lazard: You were in a VR room! You could have simulated the gorillas!
Zack: Yeah but it wouldn't be a real challenge. We were testing our limits!
Lazard: And where the hell is Sephiroth?
Angeal: One of the gorillas imprinted on him. He's its son now.
Lazard: Get the fuck out of my office.

Ambush Simulation: Touya's Fighting Style
Tumblr media
With the chapter of Ambush Simulation coming out soon, I wanted to talk a little bit about how Ambush Sim Touya fights in comparison to his canon self.
His technique is geared more toward quick, precision attacks rather than overwhelming fire. And once again proving that I never really left the Castlevania fandom, this fighting style was largely inspired by another character.
Trigger warning for gifs and flashing lights below.
Tumblr media
When I was just starting to get back into the MHA fandom, I was coming out of Castlevania, so in protagonist vs antagonist fire-user fashion, I ended up considering the question: Who would win in a fight between Sypha Belnades and Dabi?
And there really wasn't much thought put into it before I realized, "It's Sypha. No contest."
...
One of the key differences that Sypha Belnades brings to the table is that even though her abilities are magic, not superpowers, she doesn't use fire the same way Endeavor, Shouto, and Dabi use fire. All three of the Todoroki guys rely on techniques that mostly involve blasting their enemies with tremendous heat and as much output as they can manage without overheating themselves. This is what marks them as the heavy-hitters on both the protagonist and antagonist sides of the conflict.
No shade to MHA, but Castlevania was a bit more creative (closer to firebending in ATLA but unique in its own way) when it came to fire manipulation.
Even though Sypha doesn't have Dabi's drawback of burning herself, she still uses her flames in moderate but effective outbursts. It's not explicitly pointed out in Castlevania, but we do get to to see her progress of improving her abilities and fighting styles over the four seasons. Instead of overwhelming power, Sypha focuses on strategic attacks and has an expert level of control over her magic, able to alternate back and forth between small-scale attacks to all-encompassing onslaughts with relative ease.
Tumblr media
She also has an advantage of being able to control fire that she herself didn't make. As in, usurping someone else's flames, so she definitely has the ability to burn Shouto, Dabi, and Endeavor alive with their own fire. She burns a fire-breathing demon from the inside out using its own fire. Super OP as far as the MHA parameters of superpowers are concerned.
Tumblr media
...
In Ambush Simulation, Sypha actually cameos as a Pro Hero from Romania. (Canonically, she's from the Iberian Peninsula, but most of her story takes place in Wallachia, now modern day Romania.) She's been mentioned at least once in the narrative.
Touya raised his eyes to the shelves above his desk, sweeping over his books, past the jade monkeys his students had given him, past the figurine of Belnades that Fuyumi had given him for his twenty-first birthday, and the polar bear plushie that sat on the top shelf gathering dust.
Tumblr media
Dabi picked up some of her techniques from watching videos of her fight as opposed to solely relying on his father's methods, so rather than the wanton destructive flames he uses exclusively in canon, he fights more like this in Ambush Simulation:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yes, she also uses ice, so Shouto would definitely have something to learn from her style, too.
Tumblr media
Also, I just really...
Really...
Really...
Even just once...
Tumblr media
Want to see Touya do this to a bitch.

Bowser vs Eggman: The Aftermath, Sage's Lament
“Father.”
A morose whisper echoed across the wind. A small white haired girl clad in black hovered above the ground, her body flickering with lines of code. Her shoulders were slumped downward, a notably human expression by an AI creation. A frown had marred her visage as she stared up into the sky, observing the massive and spent Question Mark Block that floated there where the Death Egg once had been.
That was where she had lost her father.
Where Bowser had sent him soaring into, followed by a massive explosion that left no traces of him.
This whole conquest had been one big failure.
She had lost her brother, Metal Sonic and her father, Dr. Ivo Robotnik.
And all she could do was blame herself.
It was her that pushed for Eggman to go after other conquests. She had thought she was helping protect Sonic, a being that she was fond of. But now she realized that she pushed her father towards his doom. Not only that she had agreed that the Koopa Kingdom was the perfect place for a newfound conquest, their technology was pitiful in the face of the Eggman Empire.
Her calculations had shown them winning the battle.
Her calculations . . .
The very battle plans that her father trusted. They were doomed to fail from the very beginning. She should have known that she didn’t have the data for accurate simulations, she should have stopped her father and pushed for further research . . . But she didn’t.
She was too caught up in the fun and excitement of it all. Seeing the proud look on her father’s face when she presented him with a plan. It made her non-existent heart flutter and made her not even consider any possibilities of failure.
But they failed.
And her family died as a result.
It was her fault.
All she could do was blame herself.
Before she had any more time to blame herself, a piece of paper was pushed into her hand by one of the two survivors of that epic battle. It was her brother, Orbot who looked at her with a gentle smile.
She glanced down at the paper, reading it over. It was a recruitment drive from the Koopa Kingdom to recoup their losses from Eggman’s sudden invasion.
“Sister, with the Doctor gone it is best that we join up with a new overlord.” Orbot told her.
“It’ll be better under Bowser as well. No more threats of him decommissioning me! And he provides dental!” Cubot supplied.
“You are . . . You are abandoning father?” Her voice broke as she stared at them. The last vestiges of her family, breaking away to join the man that murdered their father. It was betrayal of the highest order and she simply could not forgive it.
“I wouldn’t consider it as abandoning him, after all the Doctor is no longer with us. We have served our function to the best of our ability, now it is time to move on.” Orbot explained, hoping that their sister would join them.
“And we’ll be safer with the Koopa Kingdom, I mean did you see the magic they have!” Cubot shot his arms up, grinning.
“That too. He even used magic to bring himself back to life.” Orbot nodded.
Magic.
Bring himself back to life.
Eggman never believed in magic, nor did she. There was always a rational and scientific explanation for everything . . . But if Magic could bring back her father, then she would believe in it with every fiber of her coding.
She was a child, clutching a blanket for safety in the dark.
“I must go.”
She sped off into the sky as her brothers called out her name. But she wanted nothing to do with them. They had betrayed the Empire, betrayed Father and betrayed her.
She soared among the clouds, calculations already being put into place. She could not rely on simulations, not anymore. Not until she had all the data.
So instead she was trusting hunches and whims, making calculated guesses.
And those thoughts were pushing her towards the Mushroom Kingdom. After all, she completely and utterly refused to learn this magic from the Koopa Kingdom. She wanted nothing to do with those murderers!
It only made sense to go to the enemy of the Koopa Kingdom and plead her case to them. Surely, they would support someone who had fought Bowser!
“No! Absolutely not!” An aged, mustached Toad stated. This was Toadsworth, the Royal Advisor to Princess Peach. He stared down Sage with an utter look of displeasure,”We will never aid warmongers, I say!”
“I do not understand.” Sage tilted her head to the side,”Bowser is a threat to the Mushroom Kingdom, is he not? I have first seen his strength, your meager military would be destroyed if he mounted an offensive against you. So, why not assist in bringing back the man that has proven to be able to challenge Bowser in his home territory?”
The Toad was taken back by her blunt and practically emotionless response. “You dare disgrace our military with your words! What has this Eggman ever achieved but humiliation at the hands of the Koopa King! We need no help from villains nor do we require help from someone with so little worth as he!”
In an instant Sage’s black clothing turned red. She had raised up her hand pointing it at the Toad,”Father is not as you call worthless! He is a visionary! A genius! One of the greatest minds in the Multiverse! Just because you cannot comprehend genius, does not give you the right to dismiss my Father and insult him! Take it back!” A red beam exploded from her hand, firing out at Toadworth.
There was a red blur as a plumber suddenly appeared in front of the Toad. A hammer connected with the beam, sending it flying safely into a nearby wall. The Plumber landed back onto the ground, tilting his hat over his eyes as he gave a satisfied smile.
“I say! I say!” Toadsworth shouted out once he had regained his senses,”The Mushroom Kingdom will not associate with bullies like y-” He stopped in an instant as the Princess lifted up her hand, silencing him. She stood up from her throne and stepped off of it.
“Thank you for saving Toadsworth, Mario.” She spoke as she stood next to her hero. She leaned down and gave him a kiss on his cheek, resulting in the Plumber looking away and blushing. A lovestruck smile was clear on his face. She then turned her gaze onto Sage, ”I apologize for my advisor . . . we have had bad dealings with others in the past.”
Sage’s rage dissipated in an instant and she came falling back onto the ground, no longer hovering. The presence of the Princess was pure and almost heavenly. She was awestruck.
“Stand up.” Peach smiled, ”I will help you, after all what kind of Princess would I be if I abandoned a child who needs help.”
“Y-you will?” Sage stuttered out, wondering if she just experienced a glitch. She was going to have to run a diagnostic check on herself once she got home.
“Of course.” Peach promised, ”Unfortunately, we are not as well versed with magic as the Koopa Kingdom, though we do keep the Royal Library well stocked with plenty of knowledge on the subject. You’re free to study to your heart's content!”
Sage let out a great big smile, flying forward to grab Peach’s hands.
“Thank you! This means so much! I promise when Father conquers this world that he will leave your Kingdom alone!” Sage thanked the Princess while Peach let out a giggle at the child's words.
It was all too adorable in her eyes.
With that over, Sage zoomed through the halls and bursted through the doors to the Royal Library. She raised up her arm, books began to levitate off their shelves and spun around her. They opened up, flicking from page to page with extreme speed. She only needed a simple glance to gather all the information that they provided.
“Amazing, to think that this world contains so much.” She stated out in awe, momentarily forgetting her grief. “The 1-UP Mushrooms provide these people with extra lives, unfortunately they are required to be ingested before death. I will ensure that these mushrooms are part of Father’s diet once I bring him back. This incident will not repeat again. I’ll make sure of it.”
The book flew back to its shelf as she focused on another one.
“The Life Shroom can bring someone back after the brink, but it requires a vessel for it to be put in . . . Bowser left no traces of my father after his attack. This one will not do.”
It was time for another book.
“This one is a newspaper clipping? I see, the Dream Stone? It is capable of granting the user any wish that they so desire. It is reported that Bowser had stolen it only for Mario to shatter it and return the dream stone to its rightful place.” She stared over at the photograph in the paper. A triumphant Mario standing next to the reformed Dreamstone whilst Bowser was tied up and rolling his eyes. She noted that there was an indent alongside the stone and that a similar sized shape bulged against Bowser’s cheek.
He was hiding a shard of the dream stone in his mouth.
“Bowser could still summon life out of nothing with just the shards of the Dream Stone. If it has as much power as this says, then this will be how I bring back Father!”
She needed to go back to the Koopa Kingdom!
A moat of lava, a castle of black stone with the face of its King carved out on top of the castle. It was so ego indulgent that it disgusted Sage. She had no problem with her own father’s vanity projects, she found his Death Egg Robot designed after his own face to be adorable.
But something like this?
It was far too much, not to mention that it was a reminder of the man that killed her Father and the power he still possessed. How she wanted to glass this entire Empire, if only the Eggman Fleet still existed, if only they still had the Death Egg.
Then she would have made them all pay.
She shook her head, pushing her thoughts of hatred to the side. She had to focus on what mattered! She had to focus on bringing back Father! Revenge could wait until another day.
With that in mind she flew through a massive pipe towards the bottom of the gargantuan structure. Hovering just above the lava as she navigated the labyrinthian system. She spotted a door and pushed through it, finding herself in some sort of dungeon. She floated along, moving further and moving silently.
“Sage? Is that you?”
She froze as she heard her name uttered. She turned her head towards one of the Cells and saw Infinite, laying against the wall. She almost didn’t recognize the Jackal without his ever famous mask.
“Infinite! You survived!” The Eggman Empire had already lost and suffered so much, she was quite thankful that Infinite was here.
“I had thought I casted aside my ‘weak’ self when the Doctor had rebuilt my body, when he fused that ruby to my very being.” He glanced down at his hand,”Power without peer, that is what I held . . . and still I lost. I am as weak as I ever have been.”
“No! You’re not weak Infinite! You were simply caught by surprise! The fault is mine, I should have realized that an immaterial being such as Boo would be able to do more than just haunt. It was my plan that was used and it is my fault that we lost.”
A chuckle emerged from Infinite, the back of his head resting against the cold stone of his cell. “It seems that we are both to blame. Our arrogance has truly blinded us, to think that we can rise above our place within this cold world. If you are not born with power, then you can never make it.”
“That’s not true! Father is just a human, but he has made machines capable of contending with what others would call gods! He is proof that you can become stronger . . . Infinite, you’re not weak. Please, don’t beat yourself up like this! It doesn’t matter what you believe or what others believe. The facts are that you are strong, it was your power that defeated Sonic, it was your power that took over the world and what’s more is that you survived when the Empire fell.”
Infinite stared at Sage. Her words lifted him up out of his despair, just enough to give him that small bit of hope to latch onto.
“Where is the Doctor anyway?”
Sage looked away, ”Father is . . . gone.” Her AI voice croaked with pain and grief, “This castle contains a shard of the Dream Stone, I can use its power and wish Father back to life.”
The Jackal nodded as he processed the information,”I’m still under the Doctor’s payroll, so I’ll do my job and help you get that shard.” He smirked, noting the utter joy in Sage’s reaction.
“Of course! Let me free you right away!” She stated as she lifted up her hand and blasted the lock into smithereens.
Infinite stepped out of his prison,”Do you know where the shard is located?”
“I have a rough layout of the castle downloaded into my memory. It is incomplete and based off of Mario’s invasion into the castle to free Princess Peach. The layout I know is mostly from the entrance and through the traps and halls to the Throne Room. I can navigate us through the traps without any worry of triggering them.”
“Bring on the traps, I will not be bested a second time by this enemy.”
The duo clambered up the stairs at the end of the dungeon, pushing through a door and finding themselves in a massive hallway. It was completely littered with paintings. Each painting was a sad looking figure, their fists pressed against the canvas as if they were trying to escape.
“Our enemy has no taste in decor.” Sage supplied, making conversation with Infinite. The Jackal merely grunted in acknowledgement not at all liking the decor himself. They continued down the path and Infinite started to feel like he was being watched. He glanced from side to side, ensuring that no one was creeping up on them.
But he should have been looking up instead of looking around.
King Boo had pushed his head through the ceiling and let out a great big sadistic grin as he saw the two. They were within his hallway of horrors, all of his trophies were laid out for the world to see his victories. He took such delight in the horrified faces, permanently etched into the paintings that they were trapped in.
He let out a silent giggle as he saw Infinite, recalling how he had bested the Jackal before.
How cruel would it be if he did it a second time.
With that in mind he pointed his nub forward and created a thwomp right above the Jackal, sending it straight down. He heard the little girl scream in surprise and finally let out a great big laugh.
The ghost shot forward straight at Sage.
The AI turned around in an instant and shot at the ghost, her laser dissipating the being for a fraction of a second, but she realized that it ultimately did no damage.
“Halt!” She shouted at King Boo, fear creeping up within her AI Voice. King Boo’s smile grew more twisted and sadistic as he enjoyed the fear. His crown shined with power as a canvas appeared, a swirling effect upon the front of it.
“Wait . . . are those all real people? Trapped in paintings!?” Her voice became more horrified as she connected the dots. She flew backwards away from the ghost, her movements fueled by panic.
King Boo grinned and used his own magic to construct a wall, halting Sage’s escape. She felt as her hard light back pressed against the cold stone, her eyes wide with fear as the canvas came closer and closer.
Then without warning a Thwomp flew forward, hitting the King’s Crown and sending it flying off the Ghost's head. Boo twisted himself around and saw the utterly pissed off form of Infinite.
“Did you think that paltry trick would work twice!” Infinite growled out,”Your battle is with me, disgusting white creature.”
Boo glared as he moved to attack Infinite, only for Sage to grip the canvas and threw it onto Boo, trapping the Ghost inside his own painting. A painting which Infinite caught and broke over his knee, tossing it to the side.
“Who's the fraud now?” He muttered out as he continued forward, picking up the crown. He frowned as he realized that he couldn’t access its power, and wondered if it was because of what manner of creature that Boo was or if it was simply magic. In any case, he destroyed the crystal. “Let’s continue, Sage.”
“R-right.” She nodded, a bit shaken up by the encounter. She lifted up her arm and blasted at the wall that King Boo made until it gave way.
As the wall collapsed they could hear the frantic marching of the foot soldiers. The sound of their battle and the laser blasts had alerted the castle to the intrusion. Infinite let out a curse as he stepped towards the massive oak door.
“Where do you need to go from here?” He asked Sage.
“Once we exit this hall we will need to head left towards the Throne Room.”
“ . . . No, you’ll head left towards the throne room.” Infinite retorted,”I’ll exit first and head right and create a distraction. You wait a minute before leaving.” With that he pushed through the door before Sage could argue against his plan.
Once outside the Hall, he was met with a group of guards.
“Is that all you can muster to deal with intruders? How pathetic.” He cracked his knuckles as he stepped forward,”Let me show you why I’m called the ULTIMATE MERCENARY” He leapt forward, his fist collided with the skull of a koopa troopa, causing it to retreat into its shell.
He then kicked the shell, sending it flying straight into a gaggle of goombas. Infinite sprinted forward, his hands came in front of him catching two hammers that were thrown his way by a hammer bro.
“You fools!” He laughed, swinging down the weapon at a Chargin’ Chuck and cracking that football helmet, knocking it out with a single blow. He leapt up into the air, kicking off the wall to get greater height as he tossed his hammer down at a bo-bomb below, exploding it and those around it.
“I will teach you fear! I will teach you pain!”
He relished in this carnage, monologuing and ensuring all the focus was on him. The more damage he caused, the more troops he defeated, the more attention that he’ll garner.
The safer that Sage will be.
“Infinite.”
Sage whispered as she zoomed through the now empty halls. The sound of battle far in the distance. She felt a shred of guilt, knowing that Infinite had put himself into harms way for her sake.
But it was worth it.
It had to be.
She will get her father back!
The AI had no more plans as she bursted into the throne room, her gaze moving across the room as she desperately searched for the Dream Stone Shard. But all that she saw was Cubot and Orbot sweeping the floor.
“You traitors.”
Sage growled out as she lifted her arm at them. Cubot jumped up and hid behind Orbot, who looked at her with a frown upon his face. Sage’s eyes widened slightly and she bit her lip as she suppressed her rage.
They were still family.
Even if they betrayed Father.
“What are you doing here, Sister?” Orbot questioned, rolling closer to his brethren. Cubot instead opted to stay a safe distance away from her. “I hope that you’re not trying to enact vengeance.”
“Yeah! You’d get scrapped! Thankfully Bowser is on vacation with his family!” Cubot spoke up, truly thankful that Bowser wasn’t here. If he was, then there sister would stand no chance.
“What does it matter to you two. You turned your backs on Father!” Her voice then became softer,” . . . You turned your backs on me.”
Orbot and Cubot glanced over at one another, guilt soaked their circuits.
“We would never turn our backs on you, sister.” Orbot promised.
“Yeah! No matter what, you’re family! That’ll never change!” Cubot continued.
“And we would love to help you anyway we can.”
“What? I mean of course we do!”
Sage stood there floating above them. A soft smile blossomed upon her lips. She descended down to their level. Her small arms pulled them into a hug.
“I had thought I lost you as well . . . I feared that I was alone.” Her voice wavered. After a moment she spoke again,”There is a way to bring back Father. Bowser is in possession of a Dream Stone Shard. Do you know where it would be held?”
She asked them.
Orbot scratched his head whilst Cubot rubbed his chin in thought. Then they both raised up a finger, coming to the conclusion at the same time.
“Items of such power are held in Kameks study. It’s to protect them from the prying grasp of the koopalings.”
“Yeah, those kids are nothing but trouble makers! They’re not nearly as well behaved as you are.”
Sage nodded, processing this information. Her mouth formed a frown, realizing that Kamek had survived their encounter. She questioned how little damage their invasion force had caused, truly she led her father to doom with her strategy.
But she can fix this.
“Where is his study?” Sage demanded and was led straight there by the two robots. They talked and joked amongst themselves and Sage felt for a moment that everything had returned to normal.
Reality of course came crashing back to her once they were in front of the door.
“Let us take care of it, sister.” Orbot told her.
“Yeah, you’ve already done so much!” Cubot supplied.
Sage nodded and took a couple step back, letting the duo take lead in this. Orbot raised up his fist and knocked on the door.
“Lord Kamek! It is time for your room to be cleaned.”
“Yeah, y’don’t want to get it all dusty! It’s bad for your health!”
From behind the door a grumbling could be heard. It opened and there stood a tired Kamek, clad in silk pajamas. “What is the meaning of this? The weekly cleaning of my study is to happen tomo-”
The Wizard was cut off as both Bots shot their fists forward, punching him in the face and knocking him out. Sage thanked her brothers and zoomed into the room, she was frantic as she searched throughout the room. She forced every chest open until she came upon the multi-colored shard.
“It’s here.”
She felt like crying as she clutched it close to her chest.
But she couldn’t cry, not yet.
She still needed to escape with her prize. She once again thanked her brothers before bursting out of the room. She calculated the quickest route out of the castle and it was through the trapped hall.
That was the one she chose.
Past the thwomps, over the lava geysers, avoiding the chain chomps, shooting down the Bullet Bills and straight to the door. The guards left in this hall were minimal, most of them were still engaged in battle with Infinite. And those that were left could not hope to keep up with Sage.
She made it to the outside.
Freedom.
She could taste it.
She could feel the cold air.
All she needed to do now was get a safe distance away from the castle and then she can wish her father back! She could envision him now, his proud smile as he pat her head!
That dream was soon dashed as she felt something hard collide with her back, sending her down and into the grass. She gasped, turning over to see the Elite Trio. A Goomba, A Koopa and a Shy Guy. The Koopa smirked as he pressed his foot down against her chest, preventing her from escaping.
“Look who we caught.”
“Isn’t she the girl that was helping that mad scientist? She shot that beam that threatened to destroy the whole Koopa Kingdom, didn’t she?”
“Yeah, and we’ll be promoted when we turn her into Bowser.”
Sage shivered in fear, tears of frustration streaming down her face. “Please! Let me go!” She was so close, so close to getting back her family!
“Nuh-huh, no way!”
“You already got away once, do you think we’ll actually let you get away a second time? Especially after invading the Kings castle!?”
“Besides, if we get promoted we might become Kamek’s boss!”
The Shy Guy leaned down, his arms coming out to grab Sage as she let out a scream, desperate to escape their grasp.
“FATHER!”
She cried out.
“No one’s going to save you.”
“You’re all alone.”
“So just make it eas-” The Koopa was interrupted as a hand gripped the back of his neck. He felt himself get lifted up into the air before being slammed into the ground. The Shy Guy and Goomba turned in alarm and saw Dr. Ivo Robotnik looming over them, his eyes narrowed in complete and utter rage.
“Get your grubby mitts off my daughter!” He roared out, his foot launching into the mask of the Shy Guy. The Goomba jumped up with fear and turned around, looking to escape the Father’s wrath . . . but he was far too slow. Eggman had grabbed him by the head, bashing him into a tree.
Sage blinked as she stared up, surprise in her eyes. “F-father?” She uttered out with disbelief.
The man kneeled down in front of her, gifting her with a gentle smile,”Yes, Sage, I am here.” He assured her. The little girl shot forward into her fathers arms. Her form shuddered as she sobbed against his chest.
“I thought . . . I thought I would never see you again!” She cried,”You were dead and it was all my fault.”
His hand came down on top of her head, fingers running through her digitized hair. “It was never your fault, Sage. How could it ever be your fault, you’re still but a child.” He told her, “You are a genius, but you still need to experience and grow. I on the other hand am the ruler of the Eggman Empire, all failures fall onto my shoulder. The blame lies solely with me.”
She sniffled slightly as she stared up at her Father, clutching onto him as if her life depended on it.
“There is one thing I don’t understand.” Eggman muttered out,”How am I back alive and how am I here?” He asked, giving Sage something new to focus on.
“I stole this Dream Stone Shard from Bowser and used it to wish you back, Father.” She said as she held out said shard. Eggman gripped it and looked it over. It was no longer the vibrant multi-colored shard it once was. It was now a lifeless grey color, devoid of all power.
“Seems that it’s out of juice, but it might still be useful to have if we ever find a way to refill it.” Eggman smiled and ruffled Sage’s hair.
“It’s out of power?” Sage pouted,”I wanted to wish for Brother to be back as well.”
Eggman hummed out in thought. He glanced around the area as his glasses flared to life. He let out a smirk,
“There’ll be no need for that, daughter. Metal is still functional, I can detect his S.O.S signal. He’s most likely too injured to move, but his AI seems to be fully operational. We’ll be able to repair him.”
Sage beamed as she took in this information. She didn’t have the ability that Eggman’s glasses had, after all this world had no Eggnet connected to it. She felt a bit lost without the Eggnet.
“I see, you completed your mission.”
The father and daughter duo jumped in surprise. They turned around to see a limping Infinite head their way, Orbot and Cubot were on either side of him, helping to support his body.
“What are you looking at?” Infinite muttered out,”We need to go. I jammed their door shut, but it won’t hold them forever.”
Eggman nodded.
He offered his hand over to Sage.
“Let’s go grab Metal and head home, dear daughter.”
Sage smiled and accepted his hand.
“Home. I like the sound of that.”

Brenner is 000- He Sure Is! (Matthew Modine Tell Us What You Know)
So, I was staring at the lab tvs (for art reference of all things), and I noticed that Captain Brenner is listed as “Subject 000” on the TV screens:
Tumblr media
And I immediately thought of what Matthew Modine said about how he thinks that Brenner (specifically in-show Brenner) could be 000:
Tumblr media
And now I’m staring at that vs a.) this post I made where I talk about the weird overlap between Captain Brenner, Don Melvald and Richard Brenner and b.) another post I’ve been working on regarding Captain Brenner and the bizarre overlap he has with Richard Brenner, the Doppelgorgon, Vecna, the MF, Vecna Vision Brenner, and one particular version of Massacre Henward.
And the whole “you have to be your dad,” thing from TFS re: overlap between in-show Brenner and Captain Brenner (especially with Welcome to Marwen being confirmed inspiration for ST & being referenced in TFS & both in-show Brenner *and* Captain Brenner having direct parallels to Captain Mark Hogancamp, who wasn’t ever actually a WW2 Captain at all, but instead, had this whole fake world where he believed he was.)
And then that ^ vs another post I’ve been working on regarding the references to crossing between worlds in TFS & how while I don’t think TFS is “real,” in the typical “hey this is normal and real and canon,” sense, I do think that live theatre & constantly having actors cross from the audience onto the stage is an odd choice for something that’s entirely fake. “TFS isn’t real/is likely some sort of NINA situation,” and “TFS isn’t entirely separate from in-show and there’s some weird crossover stuff going on there,” can coexist, especially in the context of my beliefs re: “I (obviously) don’t think nina is Real TM/the real events of 1979, but I DO think that nina has weird crossovers into reality/affects reality & has a ton of word for word parallels to wolverine travelling into the past to change the future in xmen: days of future past, and that TFS’ crossing between worlds stuff falls into that category of ‘not Real TM but also not entirely separated from reality’.”
After all, when Henry says “It’s not real, I’m normal, I’m Henry Creel,” we all sort of laugh and go “right, buddy. You’re Not normal, and you’re likely Not even Henry, considering all of your Edward coding-“ but why stop there? Why do we (myself included, obviously) question/“disagree with” those two parts of the phrase, but not with the first part?
And I’m saying this ^ as someone who’s been on the “TFS isn’t ‘real’” train from the very start- and who is still on that train, which I’ll explain (at least a little bit) in a moment, because I obviously still don’t think it’s fully real/I think it’s just as real as nina is- but the thing is, I think that nina is more real than it seems.
After all, what better way to get someone to do something (something like killing, even) than to have them believe that it’s not real and that therefore, there’s no actual consequences?
After all, if Brenner wanted El to believe that nina was real, in order for her to “fully re-experience,” her past or whatever, then why the hell did he tell her at the very start that it’s “a memory”? Why shatter that illusion of realism at the start? Why talk to her through the speakers? Shouldn’t he want her to fully believe that it’s real?
Unless, of course, it’s not just a simulation/just a memory, and DOES have actual consequences in the real-world, and therefore, El wouldn’t be willing to attack Henward and open the gate in the process (something Brenner was very eager about/was his desired result), because she’s the type of person who would want to change that fate for him/I don’t think she would have done it if she knew that it wasn’t just a memory, ESPECIALLY if it’s something that didnt actually happen in 1979/only happened Because of what present-day El did in nina, and therefore, wasnt something that she ever did IRL/in a situation where she believed that what was happening was real.
And also, why say that you two are going to “journey into the past” together? That’s the sort of thing/the idea of Brenner somehow also crossing into nina (in some way) that has me staring at whatever weird crossover is going on between in-show Richard and Captain Brenner.
And isn’t it odd that Virginia’s the one who pushes the “it’s not real,” stuff on Henry, and then is also the person that Henry kills (with the Mindflayer’s involvement of course)? It lowkey feels a little bit like there’s a connection there re: “Henry, at least on some level, doesn’t think this is real/his grasp on what is vs isn’t real is slipping, and therefore is more likely to do things like kill Virginia (the person who is specifically associated with the ‘it’s not real’ stuff) than he would be otherwise.”
But I’m just rambling incoherently and getting ahead of myself, since of that is a topic for another time and for another post.
Anyway! Just some thoughts!

I'm considering adding another route following the first seven nights. I've gotten various requests over the past few weeks and this encompasses most of the types of story lines that have been requested. Each of these routes would come with a unique prologue and MC. I'll explain each one below.
M/F/M - Storyline where Valdricht and Serax aren't in a relationship. You can choose to be with both of them in an MFM relationship or split off with one. I think the trickiest aspect of this one is the MF options. Valdricht/MC would be a piece of cake, but if it's just you and Serax, it'll be really difficult to get him to engage with the epic gods and monsters story line. He'd rather laze about a brothel and tell stories of slaying dragons than actually slaying them. It might be kind of fun to write all the ways he attempts to avoid doing anything that will advance the plot. It might also turn into a brothel simulator.
Priest - You'd play as a male MC raised within the Elodari faith with a backstory that's pretty intense. Your overall story line would be similar to that of the Heretic route, except with the added struggle of adapting to the female body given to you by The Weaver.
Female Serax - Why does this need its own route? Can't we just click a button and make Serax a lady? Girl, please. It needs an entirely different backstory for Serax, Valdricht, and the MC. Tbh I've given this one the least amount of thought, probably because I know it would be the most fun and I don't want to distract myself. And by least amount of thought, I mean that I have a 20k word outline.
Cultist - Oh boy. Here's some BoS lore for you. This was supposed to be the original story route alongside the Heretic route. I'd planned to do a Light vs Darkness MC route where you could be raised in the Elodari faith as a vestal or raised by fanatical Duskweaver cultists. I realized that it would mean a lot more writing and I'd be significantly delaying the demo launch, so I scrapped it. But it's all still outlined and it's quite different. Rather than being a Cinderella-esque story, you're a venerated child and you're raised in a hidden place with the knowledge that you'll be the mother of a god. To sum it up, you'd play as a sheltered shadow princess.
Anyway, I'll run this poll again later. I think that your opinions might change as you get to know the characters better.
Night IV is coming along well. The intimate scene took some turns I didn't expect and came out even better than I'd hoped. I'm still playing with the Zealot route to see if there's any possibility for that on Night IV, but I don't think there's any scenario in which it feels like intimacy is something she genuinely wants, rather than feels obligated to engage in because of The Weaver. Having grown up on my grandma's stash of 70's bodice rippers about women getting abducted by hot pirates and highland lairds, I could easily write that sort of scene, but I think it would offend modern sensibilities. I'll give it some more thought once I wrap up the main route.
