I know that you are a multi shipper but please tell me your favorites if you have some also what are your fav rare pairs
Firstly I really apreciate you're giving me so many asks I love to babble about things in general but especially of my special interests
For Sokka my favourite ships are Yuekka, the best of course lol, Tokka and Sokkla (because the only person who tops Azula is Sokka lmao) hehe I think they're cute. Sokkla started on that one scene he presses her against the wall. I will not elaborate.
For Katara it might come across as weird since you know I like Zutara, but I'd really like her to end up with Haru. He had so much potential and really respects her! Haru also met her when she was on her prime of innocence and was still very much inspired by her. He'd need to get rid of the beard tho, its not good on him. Ooh and I like Azutara, hehe. Spicy.
For Toph its - hehe - Toko, Tokka and Tang. TOPH TOPS EVERYONE BWAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!! Also Toph and Teo- the boy who flies and the girl who senses. Absolute power couple. But mainly Tokka, I love her silly crush on him.
Tumblr media
*coughs* anyway, I ship Aang with therapy first, but then with Azula. I just think they're neat. And I really like Kataang too, but not the tainted canon version. My own. Oooh my favourite rarepair is Yuang. So neat. Ah! And On-Ji, the fn student girl, she was so cute and obviously had a crush on him.
I ship Zuko with Jin, the Ba Sing Se girl because she was a breath of fresh air and was super funny. She was so easy going, I was rooting for them. But I really like Maiko too, Mai is so adorable and sexy and Zuko looks so happy in the finale with her! And with Suki too because of that one my lord scene but dont tell Sokka or my friends we hate the comics
I really love Tyzula because we all just assume Azula would be the top but I think she'd be the blushing mess. She is so soft for Ty Lee. Adorable my two babeys.
I know it's kinda boring bc its mostly MxF but well, I wont apologize for my tastes on my own blog!

Just for fun, here are my rapid fire rambling thoughts on the ATLA ships and platonic dynamics hehe (please don’t go full ship wars tho - these are just my opinions as a chill multishipper!)
My Favorite Ships:
• Zukka - My current brainrot and main ship!! I know they aren’t canon but I really love them and their potential okay😭I just feel like their personalities would work so well! Sokka would call Zuko on his shit and Zuko would be good at grounding Sokka when he needs it. Plus I have seen some absolutely breathtaking AUs with this ship! And fire-and-ice vibes except gay! Them <3
• Kataang - Cutiessss!! I love them! They may not be the ship I think about most often, but when I do think about them, they’re adorable! Aang is such a “my wife” guy and Katara absolutely adores him back! Also the last airbender x last southern waterbender dynamic goes HARD! I like that these two are canon!
• Yuetara - Listen I know they barely interacted but THEY’VE ACTUALLY GROWN ON ME SO MUCH LATELY AND I VERY HIGH KEY SHIP THEM! Something about like, Katara thinking about Yue when she bends is so😭Their story would be heartbreaking in the best way!! Sapphic noncanon blorbos <3
• Mailee - These two are SO cute and have so much potential rahhh!! Again, love some noncanon sapphics <3
• Batkoda - Super SUPER cute and silly and fun! The dads fr <3 Bato is either Katara and Sokka’s adopted uncle or their stepdad and I love it for them hehe! This usually pairs well with a “Hakoda adopts Zuko” AU lmao!
Other Canon/Relatively Popular Ships:
• Zutara - A pretty good ship! I see the potential and tbh it’s very very fun to think about sometimes!!! However, some of y’all toxic Zutara stans need to leave my boy Aang alone lmao. Those who are chill tho, I rock with y’all!! Overall, I’m not opposed if it’s done well and I do occasionally seek out Zutara content! I personally do prefer seeing/writing them as found siblings tho, especially with the Azula and Katara parallels!!
• Sukka - Canon cuties!! I really like them! Suki my BELOVED <3 She’s so underrated!
• Yukka - Also canon cuties! They make me sad tho ahhhhh😭😭😭
• Maiko - Also ALSO canon cuties!! They have an interesting dynamic that I can really appreciate! And gotta love Mai <3
• Jinko - Jin my beloved! These two had a super cute dynamic during the one episode they had together lmaoooo, tho I don’t think about this ship too too often.
• Tokka - I don’t mind it if it’s them getting together as adults! But tbh I personally don’t prefer shipping them as teens and I think Toph’s crush was just a typical young girl crush on someone slightly older lol. Definitely not horrible and most Tokka shippers are relatively chill! I like to think Sokka sees Toph as a little sister tho.
Now For Some Of The Crackship-y/Less Popular Ships (based on ships I’ve actually seen):
• Zukki (Zuko/Sokka/Suki) - Power throuple fr and I love some polyamory!! While I mostly lean plain Zukka, this is extremely fun to think about and would be a great dynamic!
• Mai/Ty Lee/Suki - Saw this in a Zukka fic once and it was adorableeeeee! I may not have plans to actively write this or anything, but it’s cute! Another power throuple!
• Jetko - I don’t think they would be compatible long term, but by god they are very very fun to think about in a “Jet flirts with Zuko and Zuko is completely oblivious and they share one kiss before everything goes to shit” way lmao!
• Taang - I can respect it!! I will always love them as chaos siblings personally, but it’s a totally valid and chill ship!
• Katoph - Not a bad ship at all! I’ve only come across like one post tho lmao. Also I do think I heavily prefer them as found sisters, but that’s just me personally! Again, totally a valid and chill ship!
• Azutara - I’m very neutral on this lmao. I don’t despise it at all and it could be pretty interesting?? But tbh really not something I plan to seek out.
• Azulaang - I mean?? I’m also pretty neutral on this one. Aang would be kind to her if she was trying to get help but…idk lmao.
• Tyzula - I see the potential, but I personally think Mai and Ty Lee had a healthier and more interesting and more realistic dynamic. Just my preference tho!
(I think I just want Azula to be in therapy before I reallyyyyy ship her lmao, but NOT THE KIND OF “THERAPY” SHE WAS GIVEN IN THE COMICS)
• Zukaang - I don’t love this as a ship honestly. The canon age gap as teens is sketchy for my personal taste, tho I’ve seen people ship them in “Aang was 16 when he got frozen” AUs and that’s…better and I can get behind it a little! It would be interesting! But I think Roku being Zuko’s great-grandpa just still throws me off of this ship. I don’t have any beef with the shippers tho! I’m very “live and let live” and I have seen so much worse lol.
Can’t Forget My Fav Platonic Dynamics!
• Sokka and Aang - Two found brothers who share one idiot braincell when they interact LMAO! Love them always <3
• Sokka and Katara - The siblings ever!!
• Zuko and Aang - Enemies to found brothers!! Canon besties! I love their friendship and their parallels SO MUCH!!
• Toph and Katara - Absolutely ADORABLE as found sisters!!!! Love them!
• Zuko and Katara - I really like their development in a platonic sense and I think they’re very very fun and lovely found siblings by the end!!!! Zuko is 100% the brother that just “yeah my sister can and will whoop your ass” LMAO!
• Zuko and Toph - Also very found siblings in my head!! Only have a handful of solo interactions in canon but I DON’T CARE! I WILL FOUND FAMILY THEM ANYWAY! I’m a “Toph seeks out Zuko for sibling hugs/cuddles when she’s cold because he’s basically a space heater” truther.
• Uncle Iroh and the Gaang - Zuko needs to learn to share because that is ALL OF THEIR Uncle!!!
• Hakoda and Zuko - I thrive in this section of the fandom!! They have exactly one (1) frame together in canon, but I ADORE Dadkoda adopting Zuko! Something about it is just so wholesome and cute!!! My very very fav ATLA fics are this trope!!#LetHakodaBitchSlapOzaiAndAdoptZuko2024
• Uncle Iroh and Zuko - God they make me so ALSNDKSNXNCNSNSNXNX, y’know?
• The Gaang as a whole - Obvious I know, but I really do love them😭They all bonded sm and I adore their little family!! I eat up fanart of the Gaang cuddling like CANDY omg. And yes Suki is included in the Gaang because WHY WOULDN’T SHE BE!
Anyway, thanks for coming to my TedTalk. If you made it to the end, you get a big platonic kiss on the forehead MWAH!

Tagged by my beloved @sambambucky
rules: in a new post, share the last line you wrote and tag as many people as there are words (or as many as you feel like).
“Help me fix this,” Toph demands as she enters without a knock, and adds, belatedly, when Sokka doesn’t answer, “Please.”
Still mining my well of tokka feels, obviously 😘
Tagging @livingincolorsagain @bisamwilson @wangsfires and god idk who else 😭 sorry

Sokka in LoK (Oldkka????)
We were all robbed of old Sokka so fuck canon I'm putting him in
Sokka moves like he's still in his prime, always full of energy
but sometimes the knee that he hurt during Sozin's Comet will lock up and he's down for the count
totally carves his own cane. or makes one idk mans made hot air balloons he probably finds some way to make his cane some kind of cannon or sword
absolutely treats Korra like his own kid; won't hesitate to snark or playfully punch her, but will also give her advice when she needs it
he teaches Korra how to fight with weapons or hand to hand, or at least teaches her to fight while thinking outside of the box
White Lotus member Sokka feels so right; he's like a more upbeat version of Piandao mixed with less cryptic Bumi. wicked smart and quick wits with a sharp tongue but goofs off a lot so people assume he's just an old wackjob
Sokka makes it so that there's a permanent nonbender councilperson position and/or a Water Tribe representative
though they've matured, Katara and Sokka still squabble but with more words and the occasional bending of water/snow into Sokka's clothes
loves to remind Zuko of his teenage, angsty self constantly
I firmly believe that Toph told him she was gonna go live in a swamp because Tokka friendship my beloved
fuck it Suki is also very much alive and retired on Kyoshi Island and is an instructor and Sokka will occasionally drop by to talk
Sokka definitely still fights, regardless of what people try to warn him about watching his health, he's still fit, thank you very much
never got over the thrill of travelling and goes wherever his heart takes him, but always visits friends when he's in the area
still loves art and writing, tho he has improved a lot lmao
when they were first building Republic City, he may have gotten a liiitle mad when there were no non-bender statues so he made Non-Bender Row, a street solely dedicated to statues of well-known non-benders and plaques of their achievements
always calls his friends to see how they're doing when phones become a thing
speaking of phones, Sokka loves seeing all these new inventions and definitely would like Varrick; reminds Sokka of a younger him, or so he likes to say
hates Amon with a passion and how he preys on the useless feeling of nonbenders; Amon doesn't get as much attention and followers with Sokka opposing him
when he first meets Korra's group, he thinks Mako is somehow related to Zuko
Mako: it's nice to meet you, Mr. So-
Sokka: are you Zuko's long lost son or something
Mako: ???
loves messing with Bolin and constantly teases him; very proud of him when Bolin learns lavabending
very impressed with Asami; I like to think Asami really looks up to Sokka as a non-bending inventor and when he finds this out: ego boosted, Asami is his new favorite
I have a whole separate wip of young Bumi II and Sokka bonding, but just know these two are very close and love to poke fun at their other family members together
Oh they also have the same connection to spirits so they can bond over that too
When Bumi gets airbending, yeah Sokka’s a little sad, and yeah maybe he cries a little bit, but it’s fine Bumi’s still his favorite
Sokka sees so much of Katara and Kya in Kya II; very supportive when she comes out and will hurt anyone who judges her for it
loves messing with Tenzin; sometimes will call him mini Aang; has a running bet with the rest of the family to see who can get him the most red (currently Meelo is in the lead)
Meelo and Sokka are a disaster together; the sheer chaos they can and will cause is through the roof
thinks of Ikki as a female version of Aang; also like to cause trouble together, but mostly through pranks
likes to poke fun at Jinora about her spiritual connection, but he's really proud of her when she gets her airbender tattoos
Sokka: jfdslkjh go Jinora fksdljg
Kya: Uncle are you crying
Sokka, sniffling: nO-
Give me Sokka interacting with his nieces and nephews he’d be such a good uncle spirits please
definitely thinks Kai is not good enough for his grandniece
very wary of Wu, doesn't like him at first
Sokka: he's an entitled royal brat with no manners
Katara: so were you, but without the royal part
Sokka: *offended noises*
Would absolutely be best friends with Pabu and Naga; jokes that he loves them more than their owners
Sokka would be super into probending and would probably even buy a team; but that's a post for another time
Liked the Black Quarry Boar-q-pines, but when Korra joined the Fire Ferrets, he started rooting for them
he's the first one to notice how close Asami and Korra are
Asami and Korra: *smile at each other*
Sokka: oh??? what's this????
when Mako goes through the awkward phase with Asami and Korra after that whole love triangle shitshow, Sokka tells him about his own love struggles
Asami and Korra: we're together now <33
Sokka: KNEW IT

“Nobody ever sits next to me.” He mentally slaps himself. Wrong thing to say.
Sure enough, the girl’s brow furrows. “Why? You don’t smell.”
“Oh, y’know,” Sokka shrugs, “I’m a brooding mysterious angsty student, I guess I just radiate don't fuck with me energy.” He gives her a winning smile, but she’s still not looking at him.
Her lips twitch, “I dunno. You’re probably just a loser.”

Tokka for the ship thingy?
I love them! I was rooting for them so hard but then Suki came back (she definitely won me over, but Tokka still had a special place in my heart)
Works as an OTP and a BroTP, either way I love it
Toph always holding Sokka’s arm when they’re on Appa, or she otherwise can’t see? Perfection 👌

What other ships do you ship besides kataang from atla?
tokka but when they’re grown up because I don’t like and can’t imagine the idea of them together in the show as they are, but adult tokka has my heart.
ty luki one of my biggest rarepairs because the way they would get along and have so many things to bond over is so fun and nice to think about
yukka my beloveds- deserved better, fascinating but tragic story, so in love and even only knowing each other a few weeks they are still one of the best ships we got (better than s.ukka, bite me, but nearly anything is better than s.ukka to me lol)
maiko- they get through so much together, “I love Zuko more than I fear you” like???? perfect> and Zuko’s smile thinking of her. how mai was the only one from the fire nation besides Iroh to still love Zuko before, during and after his banishment. how 80% of zuko’s smiles are because of mai. yeah love them very much
then of course there’s ships I’m not really invested in but don’t mind that much, I’ll support fanarts of them and such- like yuetara, maiaang, mailee, they’re good>

What Best Friends Are For
Happy @tokkaweek Day 7! Thanks to the mods for such a fun event; I'm actually surprised I was able to do all 7 prompts LOL. But I'm grateful for the challenge, and am now catching up on beloved Tokka stories :D
Here's an angstier take on Best Friends, so I'm sorry for that lmao. Full story is also on AO3. Thank you for reading!
......
“Are you gonna tell me why you’re making me stay?” he asked.
“Quit being impatient, Meathead. Kanto will be here in a sec! He’s just putting Lin down for bed.”
Sokka sighed and sulked in his seat next to Toph. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to hang out with Toph and Kanto, it was just that at the end of the evening the two were a little… too oogie… for his liking. But, his friends asked him to stay after dinner because they had something they wanted to talk to him about. A little cryptic for the warrior’s liking, but Sokka wasn’t going to argue with Toph and Kanto, especially with a pregnant Toph. That was just asking for trouble.
So they sat there for another moment while they waited for Kanto, but then he entered the room grinning and sat down next to Toph. “Got one badgermole to bed,” he said, his hand moving down to Toph’s growing belly. “Just got one more to go.”
The comment was apparently funny, because Toph laughed before she pulled Kanto down for a kiss.
And while Sokka loved his friends, he really didn’t care to see them sucking on each other’s faces.
“Okay, if you’re just gonna make out while I sit here, I think I’ll go home,” he complained.
Kanto attempted to pull away, but Toph held him in place for another second, obviously doing it to get a rise out of Sokka. But when Sokka groaned and pretended to stand up, Toph pushed Kanto back in his seat. “Oh hush you big baby, we actually have something important we want to talk to you about.”
Sokka gave his friends a skeptical look, but he sat back down. He continued to stare at his friends curiously as Kanto grabbed Toph’s hand and took a deep breath before he spoke.
“Sokka, Toph and I wanted to ask if you’d be the kids’ guardian in the event that Toph and I die.”
He blinked. “Wait, what?”
“We want you to be their guardian if something happens to us,” Toph repeated.
“But,” Sokka began, “I don’t know the first thing about parenting!”
“It won’t be that hard. Lin adores you, and I’m sure this kid will too!”
“I—I don’t know a thing about Earth Kingdom culture! You really want your kids to become honorary members of the Southern Water Tribe?”
Toph laughed, then said, “Sokka, if you haven’t noticed, Kanto and I aren’t big on our Earth Kingdom roots. If Lin wants to live the rest of her life in the Southern Water Tribe when she’s older, more power to ya.”
“But, guys,” Sokka stuttered, a little stunned at the seriousness of this conversation. “You’re not actually planning on this shit I mean—Katara! Katara should do this.  She’d be better at it.”
“True,” Toph admitted with a smirk. “But she doesn’t live in Republic City. You do.”
“Katara is your best friend, though, Toph.”
“Don’t be ridiculous, Sokka. You’re my best friend.”
“I—I am?”
“Yeah, I mean Katara is amazing,” Toph offered, “but you and I have always been super close. I trust you with my life. With my kids’ lives.”
“Exactly,” Kanto added. His hand went to Toph’s belly as he continued, “A lot has changed recently that’s made us consider backup plans and things and… we know it’s a big ask, but we wouldn’t ask if we didn’t think it was important.”
Sokka thought for a moment. This was serious stuff, an ask that went beyond the simple ‘Hey can I borrow your hawk to send a message?’ This was… this was life altering.
It really was a big ask for Sokka—to commit his life to raising kids that weren’t his was not something he’d ever expected in his life. And part of Sokka thought he should say no.
But then he thought about it further. The likelihood of both Kanto and Toph dying soon was unlikely, they were both fit and skilled metalbenders and could outfight just about any enemy. Lin, while she still was only a toddler, had such a beautiful and infectious personality, he just loved spending time with his honorary niece. And Toph… Well, he loved Toph. She was his best friend under any circumstance, the person he turned to first. Granted, their time spent together had dwindled in recent years, he still maintained his stance that Toph Beifong was his go-to partner in crime. And with Kanto, he was actually an amazing guy, and a good friend as well. He put his family first, and that was something Sokka greatly respected from him. Sokka could go to either of them about anything, and the feeling was mutual. They were practically family, and Sokka would do anything for his family.
Perhaps he could provide them with a bit of peace of mind.
Sokka looked back at his friends. They waited silently for his response, and he thought to lighten the mood with a question. “This is just your way of torturing me from the grave, isn’t it? Gonna make me a bachelor for the rest of my life?”
Toph breathed out a laugh and punched his shoulder. “Only partly, Snoozles.”
“We actually would like you to be there for our kids, though. In the event that we both... You know... Die,” Kanto added, his smile warm and genuine and grateful for Sokka’s reply.
And despite the rather morbid topic, Sokka couldn’t help but smile with his friends. “I’m only saying yes, because I know this will never happen.”
Sokka was suddenly pulled in for an awkward side hug from Toph, but he laughed and reciprocated.
“Thank you, Sokka. This means a lot,” Kanto replied, placing a hand on the warrior’s shoulder.
“It does,” Toph agreed.
“All right all right, as much as I love the mushy gushy oogies, I gotta go home,” Sokka said, and he pried himself out of Toph’s tight hug.
After a handful of goodbyes and hugs from his friends, Sokka walked out of the Beifong home and into the brisk winter night.
“Sokka, wait!”
He stopped and turned to find Toph running through the cold to catch up to him. “Toph!” Sokka hissed. “What are you doing? Kanto’s gonna freak out when he—”
“He’s fine, Sokka, I just—I wanted to tell you something,” she replied, reaching out to grab his hands. “And before I begin, you have to know that this is only because of my raging hormones. This conversation never happened, and any mention of it will be denied. Got it?”
Sokka had to laugh at that. “Got it.”
“I… I want you to know how important it is to me that you said yes to being Lin and this baby’s guardian in case of emergency.”
“Don’t mention it—”
Toph’s hands gripped his own tighter, and she interrupted him, “Listen. It—I know that it’s a big ask, and you probably think I’m dumb for asking you instead of my parents, but I want my kids to have joy and happiness in their lives if we’re gone.
“And you’ve made my life so happy, so I know you’ll do the same for my kids.”
“Toph…”
“I know we don’t spend as much time together lately, but I hope you know that your friendship, it—it means everything to me. Even when we’ve drifted apart.”
He stared at his best friend, a little perplexed and bewildered at the confession, a little guilty as well. Their lack of group outings wasn’t a one-sided fault, and regretted every saying no to spending time with his friends.
But Sokka wasn’t one for confessions under almost all circumstances, and instead, he pulled Toph in for a hug, saying, “I feel the same way, Toph.” After, he gave her cheek a light and chaste kiss. “I’ll make sure your kids know how to have fun if you and Kanto kick the bucket too soon. That’s what best friends are for.”
Her smile made his heart skip in his chest. “Thanks, Meathead.”
……
He watched the children play in the grass; they had so much energy and excitement despite the occasion. And while this was an almost weekly occurrence, today was different. The gravity of the situation weighed heavily on everyone save the kids, and for that, Sokka was grateful. They were too young to have to think about what it all meant, how different their lives were now.
Sokka bit his lip to stop himself from crying. It was surreal, the fact that he listened to Lin tell Kanto’s grave about her day and about a flower she just picked up to show him while Jian patted the stone that labeled Toph’s grave. It wasn’t right, they should be here, but they weren’t.
A warm hand fell onto his shoulder, and he stiffly nodded at his sister. Katara gave a sympathetic look through her tears, signaling it was time to go home. Sokka took a deep breath, then went over to the kids. “Alright, kiddos, time to go home, okay? Say bye to Mom and Dad.”
Lin nodded, hugging the headstones and telling them goodbye, then running over to Zuko to be carried. Sokka picked up Jian, who began to cry as he was pulled away from the graves. When they all said their goodbyes, Sokka turned to Katara. “Can you take him? I… I need a minute.”
Katara nodded and took Jian, and when all his friends and family went to the bottom of the hill, Sokka turned back toward the graves and knelt down on the grass, not bothering to hold back his tears anymore.
His breath wavered as he cried and tried to speak. “None of this feels real. We’ve come here every week for a year and it—it’s not fucking right.”
He was met with silence, and the grief and anger poured out of Sokka. “This wasn’t supposed to happen, you guys. This wasn’t supposed to happen.”
And yet it did. His two friends were gone too soon, and they left the responsibility of raising their kids with him. All the love that Toph and Kanto gave to their kids had to be told through stories. Their legacy would only live on in those same tales, as well as in pictures. Lin’s memories may hold, but there won’t be much detail that the 5 year old will remember. And Jian… Jian won’t have any memories, just the idea of them.
The burden of teaching Lin and Jian about their parents while also giving them a life of joy and happiness… Sokka didn’t know how he would manage, and he chuckled bitterly. “You fuckers gave me the hardest job in the world, you know that?”
The wind blew calmly into his face. “Of course you did,” he muttered. “Quite the prank, Toph. You really got me!”
His cheeks stung as the wind dried his tears, but Sokka continued to cry, and his lip quivered as he grabbed fistfuls of the grass. “I—I miss you guys. I miss you, Toph.”
He didn’t think the heartbreak would hurt more for a friend than a lover, but it did. Toph was his partner in crime, and there wasn’t a plan or even a backup plan that he considered without her in it.
“There was so much we were supposed to do,” he whispered. “You had so much more life to live. I don’t… I don’t know how I’m going to live the rest of my life without you.”
And that was true. The last year weighed heavily on Sokka, the burden and grief almost too much for one man to handle, and he had felt the pains of loving and losing more times than he could count. But this… This was different. Sokka learned to move on and to grow with the grief in his past. Losing Toph though, it wasn’t something he ever expected, and he didn’t know how he would go on without her.
Unfortunately, he had no choice but to figure it out. Some way, somehow, he would have to learn.

Not Alone
So I wrote a thing. It’s Tokka-ish but could be interpreted as romantic or platonic. I’m currently waiting on an Ao3 invite so I’ll probably post it on there as well once I receive my invite, but for now I figured I would post it on here because I’m excited to share it with you all! Oh and here’s a friendly reminder that Post Plus is bullshit and you will never, ever have to pay to read my writing. Writing is something I do for fun, and I post it on Tumblr because I want other people who love these characters as much as I do to be able to share that experience with me. Not to mention that I’m not looking to get sued by Nickelodeon.
The first time that Sokka noticed there was something wrong with Toph, she had been six months pregnant.
The two of them were lounging around her living room, Sokka stretched out across the couch with his left arm dangling off the side and Toph relaxing in an oversized armchair, her swollen feet perched on the ottoman in front of her and one hand resting on her rounded stomach. It was an unusually hot summer’s day, and the two old friends had happily retreated into the sweet relief of Toph’s newly installed air conditioning.
“Sokka, do you think I’ll be an okay mother?”
Sokka was taken aback by his friend’s blunt question.
“Well, just as long as you pay better attention to the kid than you did to Appa, I think you’ll be golden,” he joked, reflecting back briefly on the memory from their war days.
The then-tiny girl had tried with all her might to prevent Wan Shi Tong’s library from collapsing under the weight of Sokka’s own impulsive curiosity, all while trying to rescue their beloved sky bison from his captors. He would never forget the look on her face after it happened, nor would he forget the months she spent perfecting her sandbending afterwards, determined that she would never make such a mistake again.
Perhaps that had been the wrong thing to say.
Toph’s eyebrows scrunched together in a look of concern as she rubbed absentminded circles on the curve of her stomach with a flat palm.
“Sokka, I’m serious. Do you think I’ll be an okay mother?,” she repeated, some anxiety creeping into her voice.
“Well, yeah. Sure. Why wouldn’t you be?,” Sokka replied, although he couldn’t ignore the uncertainty in his own voice as he attempted to soothe his best friend’s anxieties surrounding the tiny life growing inside of her.
Toph exhibited many admirable qualities, but she wasn’t exactly nurturing. He couldn’t help but recall all the plants she had failed to keep alive over the years, or the way Katara was constantly scolding her for swearing in front of Bumi and Kya, or the way she tensed up around babies, as if she were afraid she might break them.
Toph sighed, blowing her sweaty bangs out of her face.
“I don’t know, I’m just… not great with babies. I never know what to do with them, y’know? They’re just so tiny, I always feel like I’m gonna break them in half or something equally barbaric.”
“No, no, I’m sure you won’t-,” Sokka began to reply, but Toph had not yet finished lamenting.
“And most kids get to have their dad there, but, y’know, any hope this kid has of ever meeting that lousy excuse for a man is long gone,” she huffed angrily.
“Daddy’s an asshole, isn’t he! Just a big ‘ole deadbeat loser!,” she said in a mocking babyish tone, giving her swollen belly a little pat.
Sokka rolled his eyes at his friend’s dramatics, but he couldn’t help agreeing.
The guy’s name was Kanto. He had been a bartender at one of Sokka and Toph’s mutual favourite dives, and an okay enough guy depending on who you asked, but as far as Sokka was concerned, he was the scum of Toph’s beloved earth.
The two of them had been getting a drink together like they always did on Friday nights, when Toph had caught the bartender’s eye. And honestly, Sokka couldn’t blame him. He certainly couldn’t deny that she was no longer the grubby twelve year old he had met all those years ago. He wasn’t going to pretend like he didn’t notice the curve of her hips or the way her tank top rode up her waist exposing a sliver of stomach. And he couldn’t ignore the way that other men checked her out nor how weird he felt about it when they did. Kanto had been one of those men. After a round of free drinks and a disgusting amount of quite frankly obnoxious eyebrow waggling, Kanto had somehow convinced Toph to come home with him, much to Sokka’s disdain. The rest was history.
The two of them had been an item for a couple of months. Toph claimed that she was happy with him, but Sokka didn’t need his friend’s talents as a human polygraph machine to figure out that she was lying.
He wasn’t all bad, he really wasn’t. He never laid a hand on her or anything like that. But Sokka couldn’t help noticing the subtle comments he made about her weight or her outfit or how she spoke just a little louder than he thought a woman should, nor could he miss all the changes she made to her beautiful, wonderful, perfect self just to fit his mold.
Sokka hated that Toph’s signature confidence could crumble so easily under the will of a man like that. It made his blood boil.
Toph began to fall apart when he finally left. Then when she found out that she was pregnant, she broke, and Sokka had been there to help pick up the pieces.
So yeah, not exactly Sokka’s favourite guy.
“You know you don’t need him, right?” He assured her.
“Yeah, yeah. I know,” she replied, brushing him off with a faint smile that she didn’t quite put her heart into.
Picking up on his friend’s feeble attempt to mask her obvious worry, Sokka got up from the couch and walked over to where Toph was sitting. He placed one hand firmly in hers and the other gingerly on her stomach.
“Toph, you’re the strongest person I know. Believe me when I say that if anybody can do this on their own, you can. But you won’t have to do it alone, because I’m going to be here for you every step of the way. Do you understand me?” He assured her.
She nodded in reply.
“Yeah, I understand. And thank you.”
But he could tell she didn’t really believe it.
____________
The second time that Sokka noticed something was wrong with Toph had been two weeks after Lin’s birth. Four old friends had gathered on Air Temple Island for a belated celebration of the new mother and child. Aang had cooked noodles, one of Toph’s favourites, but Sokka couldn’t help noticing that the latter had hardly touched hers.
“What’s wrong, Toph? Normally you gobble this stuff up in under five minutes,” Aang asked, voicing Sokka’s thoughts exactly.
The earthbender continued to absentmindedly twirl a piece of noodle around her chopstick, never bringing it to her mouth.
“I’m fine. Just not that hungry,” she assured them.
Sokka caught Aang’s eye and they shared a skeptical look. Katara looked at Toph with concern and a vague familiarity, as if something had suddenly dawned on her.
“You know, if something’s bothering you, you can always talk to us about it, right? I know that this is a new experience for you, and I understand if you’re feeling a little lost-,” Katara started, but was cut off by her friend’s inevitable defensive reaction.
“Oh, so you think this has to do with Lin? You think there’s something wrong with me? You think I’m not fit to be a mother? Well guess what? Lin and I are doing just fine on our own!,” Toph yelled in response to her friend’s gentle attempt to help her.
“Toph, I don’t think that’s what she meant. What she was trying to say is that being a new parent is stressful enough as it is, and I can’t imagine having to do it alone. We’re here for you if you need our help or advice,” Aang tried to reason with his angry friend, but to no avail.
“You know what, Aang? You can take your ‘advice’ and shove it up your ass. I don’t need your help, I don’t need anybody’s help. I’m a great mother!,” she shot back in response.
Sokka sighed. There was no reasoning with Toph when she got like this. Her fits of defensiveness and anger usually masked deeper fears and insecurities that could be difficult, nearing impossible to coax out of her at first. It was usually best to give her time to herself to blow off some steam, and only then could she be convinced to admit the truth about what was bothering her.
“I’m gonna go take a nap. That is, unless Sokka here has some unsolicited advice for me too,” she voiced in a warning tone implying that if Sokka did happen to have any comments to make, he better keep his mouth shut about them.
Sokka threw up his hands defensively.
“No, no, by all means, go take a nap.”
“Great, at least one of my friends doesn’t fancy himself a shrink.”
Toph stormed off in a huff to the guest bedroom, and although her fit of anger concerned him, Sokka was glad to see her getting some much-needed rest. The dark circles under her clouded eyes implying sleepless nights as of late hadn’t escaped him.
“What was that all about?,” Aang wondered aloud. “I’ve never seen her get that angry over nothing. We were just asking if she was okay.”
“I dunno. She hasn’t really been herself recently, has she?,” Sokka replied.
“I mean, she called me Aang. Just Aang. She only does that when she’s really upset.”
“Well, it is your name,” Sokka reminded him, although he too couldn’t help noting with concern that Toph had neglected to make use of her favourite choice nickname for their airbending friend.
“You know, right after I had Bumi I didn’t feel like myself either,” Katara shared. “It was like, before that moment, all I had to take care of was me. But then all of a sudden there was this tiny little human being who relied on me to survive, and I wasn’t sure if I could do it. I felt like my heart was walking around outside my body, and if I made even the slightest mistake I would destroy it forever. I doubted myself a lot. Everything was just so new and overwhelming, and some days I didn’t even want to get out of bed.”
“So you’re saying that you’re pretty sure that’s how Toph feels about Lin?,” Sokka asked tentatively as realization dawned on him.
Katara nodded.
“I do. Sokka, I think you should be the one to talk to her. She always listens to you. I’m not sure how you do it,” Katara remarked.
Sokka couldn’t deny the truth of the statement. In their twenty years of friendship, he and Toph had sought comfort in each other’s presence countless times. They had a mutual understanding that the other members of their group had often tried to imitate but could never quite replicate. Sokka went to Toph, and Toph went to Sokka. It was an unspoken agreement.
“Don’t worry, I will. I just think we should give her a little time to cool down first.”
“Good idea. You don’t want her to bite your head off,” Aang chimed in with a laugh.
____________
About an hour later, Sokka made the journey down the hallway to the guest bedroom to check on Toph and hopefully coax her out of her mood. He opened up the door to find the room dark and Toph laying on her side on the bed. She was trying to feign sleep, but Sokka could tell she was wide awake. Baby Lin was in her crib whimpering, supposedly for her mother. Sokka picked her up in his arms and rocked her back and forth, cooing softly.
“Here we go, Linny. It’s okay, Uncle Sokka is here.”
The child began to cry. She didn’t want her uncle, she wanted her mom.
“No, no Linny, don’t cry. Shhhh, Mama’s right here, see?”
Sokka carried Lin over to the bed where Toph was lying and tried to shake her awake, but was met with Toph’s hand slapping him away and an irritated growl.
“Go away, Sokka.”
“Toph, I just wanna talk,” he tried.
“Don’t you understand the meaning of ‘go away,’ dumbass?” She snarked.
“You’re really going to swear in front of the baby?”
“Great. Now you think I’m a terrible mother too. It’s fine, join the party,” she said in a sarcastic, vaguely accusatory tone, followed by her best attempt at rolling her sightless eyes.
“Toph, nobody is calling you a bad mother. We know you’re perfectly capable of raising Lin on your own. All we’re asking is that you let us help you. You’re not invincible, Toph, despite what you may have led yourself to believe.”
Toph paused, letting Sokka’s comment sink in.
“I- I’m sorry,” she began. “I know I was being kind of a bitc- a jerk back there. And I know you don’t actually believe I’m a bad mother but, but I’m not sure if I believe it. I’m so scared, Sokka. I don’t think I can actually do this alone. I- I know I said I could, but- but I think I was just lying to you, and to myself,” she choked out as tears began to cascade down her face.
Sokka raised his eyebrows in alarm at his toughest friend’s unexpected breakdown. He pulled her close to his chest and began to rub her back.
“No, no, Toph, don’t think that. You can do it, you can. But you don’t have to, because we’re going to be here for you every step of the way. I’m going to be here for you every step of the way. You don’t have to do this alone, you hear me?”
“Yeah- yeah I do. I do hear you,” she replied with newfound confidence, wiping her tears on his shirt. “And- and you know I’m blind, right? Not deaf. Of course I hear you,” she joked with a familiar smirk.
Sokka chuckled, glad to see that he finally had his best friend back. He pulled her closer to his chest and just sat there for a minute, planting a kiss on the top of her head and burying his face in her hair. Their moment of peaceful rest was broken by Lin’s frantic crying.
“It’s alright baby girl, it’s alright. Mama’s here,” Toph assured Lin as she picked her up and cradled her in her arms. As she carried her sleepy child back to her crib for some much-needed rest, whispering to her in soothing tones the entire time, Sokka couldn’t help noticing how at home she looked all of a sudden. How safe and comfortable she was with her baby in her arms.
She was going to be just fine.

I would be really happy if tumblr had a dislike button.
You saw something you don’t like!? It bothers you and makes you feel like you need to vent?
Press the dislike button and move on!
Anyway, I keep wondering what do you ship, and if you dislike any characters… ‘cause I have wouldn’t be capable of running this blog and reading anons criticizing my beloveds, like, daily!
i ship pretty much everything, though i have a zuko bias so i consume the most content of zuko ships (zutara, zukka, jetko, zuki, occasional zukaang). also giant soft spot for mailee and tokka in my heart. i can't think of any characters i really dislike with a passion.

Some more because I’m bored
- On Jaang (I love this one so much, it’s adorable and definitely my personal endgame ship for Aang)
- Zuki
- Tokka my beloved 💕
- Ty Luko
- Sukitara
On Jaang:
Tumblr media
Before I discovered my love for Taang, these two were my otp!! I just thought it was hilarious how this girl had a boyfriend, but was smitten with Aang anyway. Also, it was so cute seeing a girl Aang's own age and maturity level liking him. (I know Meng also liked him, but I couldn't see Aang with her romantically.) On Jaang are essentially on the same level as Harutara and Jinko for me. All very wholesome ships.
Zuki:
Tumblr media
I like the concept of them a lot and wish we'd gotten more interactions in the show. I could definitely see them having a fling at some point, especially if Sukka took a break after the war and Zutara hadn't gotten together yet.
Tokka:
Tumblr media
For the most part, I see them as friends and think that Toph would grow out of her crush. However! I do think Toph's feelings don't come from a place of idealization the way that Aang's feelings for Katara do, so I could also see these feelings deepening over time, and ngl, during the finale, I do see a lot of potential for the ship that could be explored when they're older. Plus, some of the art I've seen is really cute!!
Ty Luko:
Tumblr media
Their interaction during the beach episode has always intrigued me. There is a lot of wasted potential, platonically and romantically. M/aiko would have been fine imo if they hadn't been endgame, but that's not the route the show went in, so I wish we'd gotten Ty Luko instead, either as boyfriend and girlfriend or just friends. Honestly always makes me cry thinking about Ty Lee saying, "I love Zuko more than I fear you" rather than Mai. Also, imagine the angst potential for Tyzula.
Sukitara:
Tumblr media
I see them as friends for the most part, but there is a lot of potential there for a romantic relationship. They have badass girlfriends who kick ass together vibes, and I love it! I do also think it could have been really interesting if both Sokka and Katara had fallen in love with Suki. I would have LOVED to see that actually.

Ship ask game
- Tokka our beloved 💞
- Lunarry
- Preyna (Percy/Reyna, kind of a rarepair but I actually love it)
- Deamus
- Maiko
Unfortunately I already did our beloved 😭💕 so I'll do the other 4 for you Nora
LUNARRY
1. What made you ship it?
Okay so I've been a loyal harmione shipper my entire life, so getting myself to admit that I ship it was hard. However recently I found some fanfics and fanart that really converted me, so now I can proudly say that I am a multishipper in the Harry Potter fandom lmao what an accomplishment
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
OMG just all the things Harry and Luna have in common! The thestrals, their conversations in OotP, the way they help each other? They honestly make so much sense and I'm surprised how unpopular the ship is
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Not really, I'm not deep enough into the ship to see what everyone else really thinks about it and if I contradict any of them
PREYNA
1. Why don't you ship it?
Again, I really love percabeth and percalypso, and more recently I've gotten into jeyna, so I can't really see percy and reyna as much. If anything I view it as a fling, maybe something they tried once to see if it would work
2. What would have made you like it?
Maybe percy showing some sort of affection for reyna, or returning her feelings? Or maybe not being such a clueless babushka and realizing how she felt sooner
3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
It seems like a nice ship, like two praetors getting closer, maybe if percy had stayed in New Rome with her.
DEAMUS
1. What made you ship it?
Read the books lol they clearly end up together. They actually live in England with a son they adopted and three cats and two dogs in case you were wondering
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
Best friends to lovers. Need I say more?
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Nope. Pretty much everyone who ships it agrees they got married after the battle of Hogwarts and had a secret thing going on right?
MAIKO
1. What made you ship it?
Just canon I suppose, the fact that they ended up together satisfied me. I love Mai's "I love Zuko more than I fear you" declaration as well, perfection right there
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
The above statement, and also the "I hate you the least" scene as well. They just genuinely care about each other and you can see it so perfectly in their characters
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Um I don't know if this counts really but I've seen some theories saying that Suki, not Mai, was Izumi's mother, and whole idk where they got that I can see it
