its important to watch a new movie or read a new book sometimes. largely because 1) its nice to experience all the art this world has to offer but also 2) you might be able to find new scenarios to imagine your OCs in

#it gets the cogs turning if ur imaginary scenarios get stale #wait did anyone else do this. when i was a kid i played with my toys in the very storytelling heavy style #like every toy was a character type thing. ten million large spanning melodramatic stories of epic proportions with my littlest pet shops #like that was the type of play i liked. and i would #sit in front of the TV with whatever playing half watching cartoons #or watching some kids movie on vhs borrowed from the library back when they still had tapes #and the whole time i would be playing with my toys. seeming more engrossed in the story among my toys than the movie i was watching #but i WAS watching the movie i was just using it largely as a. jumping off point. to make up stories about like #my lps cat who can see ghosts and her search for her long lost twin sister or something #Oh god and when i was a little older like 10 years old making ms paint animations age #whenever i was watching a movie with like famiy or in class or whatever and maybe it was a little boring at parts #i would like. start focusing on the score only and just imagine my own sparklewolf OCs to it instead of paying attention #my dad often fondly remembers watching avatar in theatres with the whole family and looking over to me and seeing me mentally GONE hfkjdfhs #mother and older brother were pretty engrossed with the effects and visuals and i was like. eyes glazed over staring into space #imagining blue wolves with anime hair like :) my dad thought it was very funny. he cant judge the reason he was looking around was because #often hes more interested in watching other people react to a movie than the movie itself LOL we are cut from similar cloths..#i still dont remember a thing about that movie. but the score wasnt bad HJKDBJFKLSHJFDs #but yeah i dunno. watch a horror movie. think about putting your ocs through the horrors. thats how ive lived my entire life

Friendly reminder you do not have to go to college to be successful

#my whole gov class watched a document explaining the horrors of college #and how society treats and explains college as your only chance to be successful in life #which is untrue #and I’m rlly glad I grew up with a mom who didn’t borrow or ask for help from the law #she brute forced her way to where she is and she a strong independent women!#ngl i feel paying so much for a college is already a scam of some kind #like wtf?? paying???? for my future and career???? for skills???#also it’s dumb that going to college will matter in the work force #so what if I have a degree will that help clean the dishes or serve customers??#jobs don’t care if you’re valid Victorian they want to know if you can manage a diner #at the very least be able to sweep floors #gess be ranting

when i was a kid i was so fucking scared of every single horror movie ever. like there was this movie i really really REALLY wanted to watch and we went to watch it and i was so excited. please note that i just wanted to watch it because there was a lion on the trailer. so i watched it and it was really good for a while but then there was a zombie and wasnt able to sleep for three months. it was a comedy movie

so I experienced my own version of Barbenheimer on my flight back to America from Japan that my boyfriend has dubbed Barbenteen. because I replaced Oppenheimer with 1917. I currently have a pet interest in World War I fiction that discusses the hopeless brutality of war as compared and contrasted with the humanity within it, and also I just really wanted to watch the Barbie movie, so it seemed like a good choice of duo.

anyway the Barbie movie did a better job of humanizing the Kens who redeemed themselves after the failure of their radical conservative takeover than the movie about war’s senseless violence and futility did of humanizing… literally any of the German soldiers, at all, whatsoever. which is Sure Not Something I Thought I’d Be Saying But Here We Are

#red randomness #barbie #wwi #it was so frustrating because 1917 had many good qualities #the degree of the horrors it showed. the friendship at the heart of it all and the tragedy of it.#the focus on lower class lower rank soldiers instead of officers #the fact that this war is literally being fought by men so young they’re basically kids #but when you have the only interactions with Germans #serve only to prove #that British soldiers A. are the only ones capable of compassion to the enemy #and B. any attempts at compassion toward German soldiers will end in betrayal and death #then congratulations! you’ve fucked up catastrophically as a war movie!#like are we still demonizing the Germans about this war? what fucking year is it?#would it have been so horribly impossibly difficult to show even one German soldier repaying compassion in kind?#I’ve already ranted about this to everyone I know but. sigh #anyway if you know any other good WWI movies (aside from All Quiet which I’m already going to watch with my boyfriend)#then please let me know! there must be at least one that doesn’t do this shit

Marvel movie quip humor is going to make the class I’m taking on comedy a living hell isn’t it

#not that it isn’t good *sometimes*. but jesus christ #kids don’t understand the innate horror in humor anymore and I am going to run circles around them in this class. as usual #anyway I say this bc on this our first day #we watched a clip from a korean film (called A Hard Day in case anyone is interested) and the mr crusote bit from monty python’s the meaning #of life and all the kids in that class HATED it but LOVED the korean fil #and me having watched this film backwards and forwards am going ‘… you taking the piss?’#like I’m sorry you can’t appreciate these pioneers in humor who disrupt cinematic form itself in the name of the punchline #the satirical nature of the bit commenting on british standards of propriety and establishment that uses corporeal humor to emphasize that #point. while also it meaning absolutely none of that bc none of these dudes was serious ever in their whole career (except they were)#BUT ME AND THE PROFESSOR ARE DIFFERENT SO SUCK MY CHICKEN NUGGETS
