Design Flaws
The snowy hawkbats should have been Cipher Thirteen’s first clue that this was a bad idea.
They were cute. Just like his own little hawkbat form, except white and fuzzy (not to imply that his hawkbat form was cute).
Covered in a downy layer of fur, like the finest of winter fashion, they clung along the walls of the ice canyons as if they were granite slug-infested ferrocrete and not … frigid and forbidding wastelands (he wondered what they ate). They didn’t have the echolocation horn that he did, or the bioluminescent, environment-sensing fronds, but they did have the tiniest little, fur-covered triangular ears, which he, of course, did not.
Adorable.
With shorter, broader wings, and claws more like miniature icepicks than something reasonable, they nestled together in overlapping layers, covering the exposed, pale skin along the lower third of their wings in fuzzy warmth. Every so often the bottom layer of snow bats would take flight, maybe locating some kind of nourishment, before flitting sporadically back to take their place at the top of the column, tucking in and making the whole colony readjust as they chased the rising line of the falling sun. Neat.
Thirteen turned from the window and went to locate Watcher Five.
* * * * *
The fact that even tauntauns refused to traverse the landscape at dusk should have been Thirteen’s second clue.
“The sun’ll be down in an hour,” the animal keepers told them. “Tauntauns won’t do it. They won’t. Lookit ‘em. They know. It’s a five-hour trip anyway by mount. Did you try the speeder bay?”
Yes, they tried the speeder bay. All were down due to climate-related mechanical issues. That’s why they were here.
Five and Thirteen were forced to abruptly step aside as a tauntaun retreated, with loud complaints, into its not-all-that-warm, yet somehow preferable, stall in the ice cave.
Time for plan, uh. C.
* * * * *
They had, of course, what the tauntauns didn’t, which was thermal clothing embedded with thermal heat packs, specifically made for this planet, for this weather.
Well, Thirteen didn’t, not anymore, not for Plan C. But that was fine. He had thick skin and he’d flown in the cold before. Five packed a duffel with extra winter clothing and gear, while the monstrous, dragon-sized hawkbat looked on, and they were ready to go.
Intel, and Intel’s finest, don’t wait for daybreak.
Thirteen launched them into the fading dusk, and the winter air wrapped around his wings in a cold embrace. The low clouds on the horizon were tinged pink.
Delightful.
Three hours by air to the next installation, max. It would be easy.
* * * * *
Nobody told Thirteen that massive wings capable of resisting blaster bolts can still lose heat like a sieve. And so can large, unfurred ears, like the ears he has to accommodate the echolocation that he’s trying so hard to use right now in the face of the blisteringly cold wind and the downright blistering, driving snow.
The snow stings his eyes and sharp gusts batter them about in the dark. Thirteen does his best to smooth the journey for Watcher Five, and he thinks he succeeds, but he can feel the air yanking and shoving his wings, and it’s an effort to keep them even. His muscles tremble.
How long has it been?
Well, they’ll be there soon enough. If Thirteen is cold, then Five certainly is. He just needs to persevere a little longer.
Tiny icicles form on his eye ridges, and across the rim of his ears and inside them, from the steamy plumes of his hot breath. Not for the first time, he shakes his head to dislodge them, snapping his beak in futile annoyance and grimacing at the burning of his chafed skin. They interfere with his hearing - with what he can see in the sound. Far below, he perceives the slopes and edges of the landscape.
No base, yet.
A little further.
His wings are stiff from the cold, and he pumps them regularly to keep speed and keep blood flowing. This is fine. He’s flown in the cold before. Not like this, but … still cold.
The wind howls and makes the icicles sing, and he shakes his head again. Five beats on the base of his neck.
It’s fine. He screams into the wind to tell him so.
It bites back into his lungs.
It’s … painful the way the delicate fronds at the back of his head seem to transmit the frigid air straight into his skull. Had he ever had the problem before? He can’t remember. Maybe he should speak to Five about … a hat. A hawkbat hat. For a giant hawkbat.
The idea makes him chuckle. Oh, but this snow is annoying. It makes his eyes water. Five has goggles, doesn’t he? Thirteen needs those too. For now, maybe he’ll just close his eyes. He doesn’t need them, anyway, can’t see anything even with all the extra spectrums his eyes have access to. Premium design choice, and for what?
No, he can hear the landscape just fine.
The ache of his body fades into the wailing monotony of the wind.
An hour later - or is it minutes later? - he tries to open his eyes and realizes they have frozen shut.
Well, that’s … dastardly. And unfair.
A good shake does nothing for them, neither does a second, longer and more vigorous shake. He could beat the ice free, perhaps, with a wing, or a claw, maybe. But that’s not really conducive for flying or for passengers, is it?
Damn it, Five.
Well, he still has his ears. They’ll be there soon. Won’t they? He’s sure they will. How long has it been?
Five is still there. Isn’t he? He should be. He’d be an idiot if he let himself fall after all this time. Well, he’s wrapped up in enough thermals that they’d cushion the landing and he’d still melt a crater into the ice like a superheated meteor. It’s fine.
He thinks he feels Five patting his neck again. He thinks he hears Five saying something, which his giant ears would definitely pick up, even with the wind. Yes, it’s fine.
It’s fine.
His wings are heavy. He beats them. He thinks he does. He listens, hard, for their destination to appear. He doesn’t hear anything.
The clouds muffle everything. Should he go lower?
No, he can hear through clouds. He can hear through that annoying ringing, he can hear past the heaviness of his breath.
He can. He was made for this.
He was.
Except, he wasn’t.
He thinks of flying with a giant winged wolf, soaring among mountain peaks, under a clear, starry sky. She has the aurora wrapped like a shawl in her mane and her tail - the sparkling banner of a comet. He hears her, in the wind. Howling.
Howling.
She was made for this.
Gradually, his head and wings droop.
The flight comes to an abrupt end.
Thankfully, he doesn’t notice when he plows, headfirst, into the icy slope.

Title: Thirteen Doorways, Wolves Behind Them All
Author: Laura Ruby
Series or standalone: standalone
Publication year: 2019
Genres: fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, paranormal, magical realism
Blurb: When Frankie's mother died and her father left her and her siblings at an orphanage in Chicago, it was supposed to be only temporary - just long enough for him to get back on his feet and be able to provide for them once again. That's why Frankie's not prepared for the day that he arrives for his weekend visit with a new woman on his arm and out-of-state train tickets in his pocket. Now Frankie and her sister Toni are abandoned alongside so many other orphans - two young, unwanted women doing everything they can to survive. As the embers of the Great Depression are kindled into the fires of World War II and the shadows of injustice, poverty, and death walk the streets in broad daylight, it will be up to Frankie to find something worth holding on to in the ruins of this shattered America, every minute of every day spent wondering if the life she's able to carve out will be enough. I will admit I do not know the answer, but I will be watching, waiting to find out. That is what ghosts do.

When I was about thirteen, I remember dreaming a film trailer. When I woke up, I wrote it down and most of it is generic fantasy oppression fight the system by collecting mcguffins stuff -
But a major stylisation of it was that flat, shiny, Tim Burton/Disney CGI. The world was dripping in this. Everything was that oversaturated, over-polished, over-worked CGI.
But every time they collected/destroyed another Mcguffin, that CGI went away. But by bit it transitioned into real sets and practical effects until there is no noticeable CGI at all. Because that’s the system they were fighting - they weren’t being allowed to see what the real world looked like.
Decay and rot and broken infrastructure were being essentially photoshopped over because our villainous leader had no interest or ability to maintain things. It was only ever a temporary solution thought up by someone who thought that transforming a pack of wolves into humans to be her elite guard force was, in fact, a good idea.
(It was not. There was a whole subplot about the secondary antagonists in-fighting and being driven insane by the disconnect between how humans and wolves think and act where the one which were cubs when transformed were desperate to return to something they’d never experience and the patriarch/matriarch of the family knew they were too changed to ever survive as wolves again - definitely stolen from Terry Pratchett)
But, yeah, I’d be tempted to see if that would work, but with a story not dreamed up by a thirteen year old with an obsession with 1970s actors.

Daughters with Soft Underbellies; masterlist
Tumblr media
john price x fem!reader | outlaw/cowboy and preachers daughter | read on ao3 | pinterest board
All your life, you have known nothing but the Word of God and your father's short temper. Every day, you are forced to turn the other cheek for each minor mistake you make within your father's gaze; the old wounds hardly have time to heal before he gives you new ones. Yet, as a devout follower to God and your father, you have no one else to turn to. When the owner of the saloon tells you about some strangers lurking around town, you decide to take your chances with these wayward men in the hopes that they'll save you. But they are dangerous, conniving bandits; a fact you learn a little too late. You should have known that sheep who stray too far from the flock are at the mercy of the wolves. Better sharpen those teeth of yours, little lamb.

The Star-Crossed Lovers Of District 12 (Part 1)
Prologue
Summary: Y/N returns to district 13 with the rebel who claims to be her husband. All hell breaks loose. SoTR Spoilers!
Haymitch Abernathy x Wife!Reader
Tumblr media
Y/N wakes to the lights of the hovercraft, she’s upright, resting against something soft. Fingers card her hair, muttering against her ear, though she can’t make out the words. Her head throbs, she needs her medicine. She can’t get her medicine, because they took her. The rebels.
She pushes against the gentle hands that restrain her. He’ll kill her…unless…
“It’s alright.” The man clears his throat, “I’m not going to hurt you.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m your husband. You remember me telling you that, don’t you?” He’s still attempting to assess the damage.
“I remember you telling me that, but you could tell me anything, you’re a rebel.”
“And who are you?” He challenges.
“Well, I’m the victor of the sixtieth hunger games.” Y/N says, “I’ve lived in the Capitol ever since, designing clothing and-” oh no. There’s a hole there. A detail missing. The doctors warned her not to lose herself searching for it, brings on the headaches tenfold.
The man grabs her skull, turning her head from one side to the other. Tugging at her ears as he peers down the canal toward her eardrum.
“What the hell are you doing? Stop!” Y/N pushes away from him.
His eyes are stern, mouth set in a scowl as he pulls her back into his lap, on the floor of the hovercraft. “Is there something in your ear?”
“I don’t think so,” Y/N shakes her head. “Even if there was, I’m sure all the yanking shook it loose.” She massages the tender shell of her ear.
“Sorry,” he grimaces. “So uh, how long had you been down there? In the tribute center?”
“Since the Quarter Quell, I think.” The rebels blew up the arena and took a bunch of tributes, to do God knows what to.
The man nods, “that’s actually impossible.”
“Why?”
“You weren’t in the Quarter Quell.”
“I’m the only living victor from district twelve, of course I was.”
“Don’t flatter yourself,” he huffs a laugh, “you’re one of four, angel. You didn’t go to the Quarter Quell because Katniss took your place.”
“Katniss?” Who’s Katniss and, “why would she do that?”
“Because you were-”
“Was I sick?” Y/N looks to him with renewed interest. This must be it. The hole, the gap between what she remembers and the memories she lost in the explosion caused by the rebels.
The man opens and closes his mouth, gaping at her.
It is not uncommon for our minds to try and fill in the blanks. We see this often in patients with head trauma.
“Please, I need to know.”
“That’s enough for now, we’re landing.” A second rebel reveals himself. Dressed in all black like his counterpart.
“Boggs, do you think you could keep an eye on her? I have to go tell-”
“You can’t just leave me,” Y/N protests. “I mean, you’re my husband. Alleged, but still. Don’t leave me to the wolves.”
The man exhales, “think of all the trouble I went to, to get you here. You really think I’m gonna leave you somewhere it isn’t safe?”
Her eyes search his, who are you?
“My name is Haymitch, down here, they refer to me as Soldier Abernathy. They’ll probably call you the same until we get this sorted. If you need me, have someone from your med team page me.”
Haymitch. The name feels familiar to her, as though she called for him often, in another life. Y/N blinks at him, “down where?” The hovercraft jostles, taking its place on the landing pad.
“Welcome back to district thirteen.”
The underground lights are disorienting at first, Y/N steps off the hovercraft, hoping to get her bearings. She has about ten seconds before her vision is clouded by a tuft of dark brown hair.
“Y/N.”
There’s a girl in her arms, nearly as tall as her, not her sister, Madge. Or anyone she would recognize at a glance. Y/N brushes the wayward locks from her face.
“I thought you were dead.” The girl says, tightening her hold.
Is it you? Y/N wonders, do you fill the holes?
“Katniss,” Haymitch interrupts, putting some distance between them. “She isn’t herself.”
“What do you mean?” The girl, Katniss, holds Y/N at arms length to examine her.
“She doesn’t remember who you are.”
Y/N is equally devastated at the look on her face. “You’re the rebel girl, the mockingjay.” Katniss! “The boy used to scream for you.”
“Peeta?” Her voice breaks over his name. “Is Peeta here?”
“We had one medic on standby, they’re working on him now. Making sure he’s stable to transfer down to the hospital.”
“I need to see him,” Katniss insists, breaking away from Y/N and Haymitch to rush up the loading ramp.
Something collides with Y/N’s back, again with the hugging. For a bunch of blood thirsty lunatics, they sure don’t seem to be in any rush to take her out.
“Mom!”
“Mom?” Y/N grips the little hand around her waist. There is another just beneath it, belonging to a younger child.
“Mommy.” A second voice says.
“I’m mom?” Y/N mouths to Haymitch, who stares back at her in horror. This must be who he’d needed to warn about her…condition.
Finally the man nods. Hoping beyond hope that the woman before him won’t shuck them off.
Y/N pats at the arms, slowly turning to face them. “And you’re dad.” Her laughter verges on hysteria. The boy is his, through and through.
Haymitch comes around to the opposite side, standing with a hand on each child’s shoulder. “Alright you two, mom needs to get check out by the doctors.”
“Are you ok, mommy?” The little girl, wearing her face, asks.
Did they make you from my DNA? Grow you in a lab? “Yes I’m…ok.” Y/N lies. “I just have a headache.”
Haymitch’s tiny clone releases her first. “Come on, Arista. Let’s go find, Aunt Madge.”
Madge? “You have my sister here?”
“Where else would they have me?” Madge smiles, rounding the corner with an infant in her arms.
“You had a baby?”
“What?” Madge peers down at the child in question, “no. She’s yours.”
Y/N’s knees buckle, “oh no.” Her vision spotty, tunneling into darkness, “mommy’s gonna pass out now.” Grown in a lab or not, she doesn’t want to crush these children.
————————————————————————-
She startles awake to the familiar beep of bedside monitors. Am I home? Back in the Capitol? What happened to the rebels? What happened to- “Haymitch?”
“I’m here,” his chair screeches against the floor as he springs to his feet, rushing to her side. “I’m right here.” Haymitch’s hands are carding her hair again, staring down at her with the softest look in his eyes.
Oh, you poor man. “I’m sorry, I still don’t remember anything.”
Haymitch shakes his head, “that’s ok.”
“No I-“
“If nothing else, you know that I’m not gonna kill you now.” Haymitch hushes her, “it’s important to build a foundation of trust.”
“Is that what we’re doing?” Y/N wonders.
“That’s what I’d like to do.”
“Ok, well…ok.” If he’s not going to kill me, this may be my best chance at freedom.
“And I want to say thank you for what you did yesterday, with the kids.” Haymitch clears his throat, “that must’ve been a lot for you.”
“I’ve been out for a day?”
A slight bob of his head confirms it. “They were able to run most of their tests.”
“Where do they think I am? The clones.”
“Our children?” Haymitch chuckles, “they think you’re having tests run.”
“Good.”
“We had them the old fashioned way, just so you know. No cloning or laboratory needed.”
Y/N nods.
“Aren’t you gonna bite my head off and call me a lying rebel?”
Y/N sucks in a breath, “I am incredibly attracted to you, Mr. Rebel. And of all the things you’ve told me in the past twenty-four hours, I find that the most believable.”
“Good thing you didn’t lose your sense of humor.” Haymitch retorts, “that’d be a deal breaker.”
“You said um-” damn you, stop looking at me like that. “They ran tests?”
“Yeah, I asked the doctor to come back once you woke up to discuss the results. I’ll go see if I can flag down one of the nurses.”
“Thank you, Haymitch.” Y/N tries to relax into the pillows, but her head is pounding something awful.
When the door opens again, it is Haymitch who asks, “can you give her something for the pain?”
“Of course,” the doctor smiles, filling a syringe and injecting it into Y/N’s IV port.
Relief is near instant, allowing her to focus as the team of doctors and nurses fill the room.
“Upon reviewing your scans, there is clear swelling along the anterior lining of the brain. Indicative of a severe head injury.”
“Will it heal?”
“In time, yes.”
“Given the extent of the injury and the progress she’s already made… we have reason to believe that Y/N may have spent a month or more in a medically induced coma; attempting to speed up her recovery.”
“Why?”
Johanna stumbles into the room, crossing both arms over her chest. “Because she did it to herself.”
“What?” Haymitch blanches.
“Snow wanted to use her to get to you but,” Johanna lets out a low whistle, “she bashed her pretty head against the table, until it was lights out. Best he could do after that was subliminal messages and of course tossing in a few of your propos. God, that stupid voice would play on a loop all day and night.”
‘My name is Y/N Undersee. I’m the only living victor from district twelve. I live in the Capitol, designing clothing, I am very happy here. The rebels are after me. The rebels destroy everything that is good. The rebels are coming to kill me.’
‘My name is Y/N Undersee. I’m the only living victor from district twelve. I live in the Capitol, designing clothing, I am very happy here. The rebels are after me. The rebels destroy everything that is good. The rebels are coming to kill me.’
“I’d probably believe you were there to kill me too,” Johanna admits.

the peak of "wouldn't it be awesome to be a child soldier? JUST KIDDING! it would be incredibly fucked up. anyway here's the main character getting eaten by wolves" is the alex rider series, which takes the wish fulfilment premise of being a teenage spy and then makes it explicitly clear from day one that alex is being blackmailed into acting as a spy for adults who have neither love nor even basic care for him and will let his life fall apart the moment he says no. coincidentally it's due to this career that alex is both an orphan and without a guardian in the first place; spying led directly to both his parents' and uncle's deaths. alex is repeatedly traumatised and nearly killed in increasingly horrifying manners, and it becomes clear that the only way for him to protect himself is to keep throwing himself in danger; he hates this and is completely aware that the only person he trusts could be ripped away from him at any moment and that his social life and academic standing is being ripped to shreds the longer he continues living his double life. the kicker is that he was raised in, perhaps intentionally moulded for, this lifestyle and the longer he continues it the harder he finds it to leave; he's essentially addicted to life-and-death situations and almost doesn't want to keep coming back to it. he turns to the other side only to turn that his bosses' enemies are just as bad as they are; at the age of just thirteen he finds himself completely alone in the world. and it slaps both as a thriller series and a deconstruction of the horrific violence both literal and structural that undergirds alex's life and job and the ethics of using a literal child to do your bidding as the lines between work and home life blur beyond recognition

The Secret by OKDeanna
Six months. Fourteen hours. Twenty-six minutes. Thirteen seconds.
That’s how long it took to bring Derek Hale back to life. But no one else knows that. No one else knows the ritual he found. The ritual he performed. No one else knows the time and energy it took to dispel the Nogitsune’s magic and release the wolf from Bardo. No one else knows the nightmares he’ll have to face now that the ritual is done, over, and he likes it that way.
He likes that no one was around to see him save his friend, his… person. He doesn’t need to share that with anyone. He did what he had to do and now he’s done it. He can go back to his life and let Derek, and Eli, get on with theirs.
Maybe one day he’ll regret the choices he made to get here. But he probably won’t. Out of all of them, Derek deserves to live the life he wants, to find the happiness he craves, and so does his son.
Pushing away from the large valley oak he’d hidden behind, Special Agent Stiles Stilinski carefully makes his way through the woods and back to the car he’d hidden just off the highway. Thankfully, no one was around to see him, and he’d been far enough away from where Derek resurrected that he knew none of the wolves would have smelled him there.
Maybe one day they’ll all realize the time he’d stolen from them to fix the mess they’d made of Derek’s life, of Eli’s life, or maybe they won’t. But either way, Stiles doesn’t care.
Derek was back where he belonged, and that’s the only thing that truly matters.
Beacon Hills needed a real Alpha to protect it, and Scott had proven it isn’t him. That it will never be him. Not when he would so willingly sacrifice everything—and everyone—to save a girl who’d been dead for years.
Shaking his head, Stiles pulled open his car door and climbed inside. Minutes later, he was on the highway and on his way out of town, knowing with absolute certainty that no one in Beacon Hills would even think to consider he’d been there to help them when only one of them had thought enough to call him.
He still didn’t know how Derek got his secure number, but he was grateful that the werewolf had. Without it, Stiles might not have been around to save his life, and that was something he didn’t ever want to experience again.
There was a reason Derek was the king on his chessboard, and maybe someday, once everything settled down, he would tell him what it is… or rather, what he hoped it could be. But that was for another day, or maybe just another life.

Diabolik Lovers: All Species Explained (Requested)
Diabolik Lovers* is a Japanese otome game franchise. In it, a human girl finds herself in a reverse harem with thirteen demons total; depending on the source material. Due to there being several different types of demons, this article will explain all the races of demons and their place in society. Please note: No fan theories or headcanons (fan interpretations or additions of a fictional story that aren't canon or confirmed to be canon by the creator) will be included in this article.
Demons: Ancestor
The Ancestors, also known as the Founders, are the first demons to exist in the Demon World. As such, they are a superior demon race as the highest rank of demon. The most powerful type of demon race belongs to the First Blood Clan (DL game: Dark Fate). Being the ancestor race of all the demon kinds, they possess all the basic racial skills of the four superior demonic sub-races, but they don't possess their weaknesses. Ancestors have the ability to transform into bats, snakes, wolves, and eagles. They also have the most powerful strength, speed, regenerative abilities and healing saliva. In addition, Ancestors have the most enheightened vision, smell, and hearing. Finally, they can use magic, summon familiars, mind control, turn humans, teleport and fly whenever they please. The only way ancestors can die is by decapitation (DL manga: Young Blood & OVA anime). Due to all of this, They are the strongest race in the Demon World and the Human World. Despite this, Ancestors are at their most powerful during a solar eclipse [mistranslated as lunar eclipse] (DL anime: Sea. 2). As the original demons, they're active at night (DL game: Haunted Dark Bridal, Laito's Maniac Epilogue).
Known Clan Members: Carla and Shin Tsukinami, Cordelia Sakamaki, Yui Komori [has Cordelia's heart], Menae [deceased], Krone [deceased], Gisubahha [deceased], and Felzein [deceased] (DL manga).
Due to being a hybrid, Cordelia is considered a First Blood Clan member because a half-breed demon's rank is determined by the strongest blood flowing through their vains. Thus, her vibora blood doesn't matter. However, it's likely Cordelia doesn't possess all the same powers of an ancestor. If she does, they're all weakened versions of a founder's abilities.
Tumblr media
Carla & Shin with Cordelia (DL game: DF, Ayato's Route).
Demons: Vampire
Pureblood Vampires are one of the four superior demonic sub-races, which are all equal to one another in rank. They belong to the Bat Clan. This is because vampires have the ability to turn into bats (DL game: HDB & manga). Vampires also possess inhightened smell, vision and hearing. Other abilities include: using magic, summoning familiars, regeneration, healing saliva, teleportation, turning humans, super strength and super speed. During a full moon, a vampire's power is at its peak to fly and use mind control (DL game: HDB, Reiji's Route). They can die if their heads are cut off or if they are stabbed in the heart. However, if a vampire's body is too damaged to heal fast enough, it can be life-threatening, even if not directly. Their weakness is silver; specifically, silver weapons. Vampires are weakened during a solar eclipse [mistranslated as lunar eclipse] (DL anime: Sea. 1). Additionally, a vampire's vision diminishes in sunlight. They can eat human food, but it doesn't nourish them. Although all races suck blood, only vampires have blood as the main source of food.
Known Clan Members: Karlheinz, Beatrix, Christa, Richter, Shu, Reiji, Laito, Kanato, Ayato, and Subaru Sakamaki.
Tumblr media
The Sakamaki brothers (DL game: HDB).
Demons: Vibora
Viboras are one of the four superior demonic sub-races, which are all equal to one another in rank. They belong to the Snake Clan. This is because viboras have the ability to turn into snakes. Viboras also possess inhightened smell, vision and hearing. Other abilities include: using magic, summoning familiars, regeneration, healing saliva, turning humans, teleportation, super strength and super speed. During a full moon, a vibora's power is at its peak to where they can fly and use mind control (HDB, Reiji's Route). They can die if their heads are cut off or if they are stabbed in the heart. However, if a vibora's body is too damaged to heal fast enough, it can be life-threatening, even if not directly. It's unknown if they possess the same weakness for silver as vampire's do. However, Pureblood viboras are weakened during a solar eclipse (DL anime: Sea. 1). Their vision also diminishes in sunlight (HDB Laito's Maniac Epilogue). Viboras can suck blood, but human food is their main source of nutrients.
Known Clan Members: Burai [deceased] (DL manga), Cordelia Sakamaki, Yui Komori [has Cordelia's heart], Zweig (DL game: Lost Eden, Reiji's Maniac 10) and Zweig's unknown younger sister.
Tumblr media
Cordelia with her triplet son's vibora eyes.
Demons: Wolves
Wolves are one of the four superior demonic sub-races, which are all equal to one another in rank. They belong to the Wolf Clan. This is because wolves have the ability to turn into the canines. Wolves also possess inhightened smell, vision and hearing. Other abilities include: using magic, summoning familiars, regeneration, turning humans, healing saliva, teleportation, super strength and super speed. During a full moon, a wolf's power is at its peak to where they can fly and use mind control (HDB, Reiji's Route). They can die if their heads are cut off or if they are stabbed in the heart. However, if a wolf's body is too damaged to heal fast enough, it can be life-threatening, even if not directly. It's unknown if they possess the same weakness for silver as vampire's do. However, Pureblood wolves are weakened during a solar eclipse (DL anime: Sea. 1). They are also active at night (HDB Laito's Maniac Epilogue). Wolves can suck blood, but human food is their main source of nutrients.
Known Clan Members: Gottfried [deceased], Eberto (DL manga).
Demons: Adler
Adlers are one of the four superior demonic sub-races, which are all equal to one another in rank. They belong to the Eagle Clan. This is because Adlers have the ability to turn into eagles. Adlers also possess inhightened smell, vision and hearing. Other abilities include: using magic, summoning familiars, regeneration, turning humans, healing saliva, teleportation, super strength and super speed. During a full moon, an adler's power is at its peak to where they can fly and use mind control (HDB, Reiji's Route) They can die if their heads are cut off or if they are stabbed in the heart. However, if an adler's body is too damaged to heal fast enough, it can be life-threatening, even if not directly. It's unknown if they possess the same weakness for silver as vampire's do. However, Pureblood adlers are weakened during a solar eclipse (DL anime: Sea. 1). They are also active at night (HDB, Laito's Maniac Epilogue). Adlers can suck blood, but human food is their main source of nutrients.
Demons: Impure Vampires
Impure Vampires are an inferior demon race as "half breeds." They’re either half biologically human or they're humans who were turned into vampires. As such, impure vampires maintain their human appearances, memories, thoughts, emotions, skills and habits from their human lives. Despite being part of the Bat Clan, their rank is beneath the four sub-demon species due to not being a pureblood demon. Pureblood vampires hate the scent of impure vampires because they "smell like the dead." This is due to them being reborn as animated corpses upon being turned (DL anime: Sea. 2). Impure vampires have increased strength, speed, vision, smell, hearing, healing saliva, turning humans, regenerative abilities and can turn into a bat. But they’re much weaker and slower than a purebloods. During a full moon, an impure vampire can fly and teleport because their powers are at their strongest. They can't use magic or sommon familiars. Impure vampires are also weak to silver weapons. It's much easier to kill them, especially with hunter bullets, because their skills and defences are weaker. Unlike pureblood vampires, they see perfectly in sunlight (DL game: More Blood). Impure vampires' powers aren't affected or weakened during a solar eclipse. This likely applies to all inferior sub-races/impure viboras, wolves and adlers. Finally, all human food nourishes them, but blood is still their main food source (DL anime: Sea. 1).
Half breeds from the three remaining superior sub-species are never mentioned or shown in the franchise. However, considering all demons suck blood, it's likely the impure Viboras, Wolves and Adlers can turn humans as well.
Additional Clan Members: Ruki, Kou, Yuma and Azusa Mukami.
Tumblr media
The Mukami brothers (DL game: MB).
Demons: Dream
There isn't much known about these type of demons, let alone what clan they belong to. However, they are likely an inferior demonic sub-race. Succubus/Succubi [female/females] and Incubus/Incubi [male/males] are dream demons. They enter people’s dreams and take their life energy. The naughty demons do this by causing humans and other demons to have lewd dreams (HDB, Laito's Maniac Prolonge). These demons are immortal and are active at night. It's quite obvious they possess magic as well.
Demons: Ghoul
Ghouls are at the bottom of the hierarchy in the Demon World. They're an inferior demon sub-race who are compared to humans and used as slaves by the four superior sub-demon races. Ghouls belong to the Crow Clan. This is because they can turn into crows. Although ghouls are immortal like all the demons listed above, they don't possess any magic. Ghouls don't have enheightened senses, super speed, super strength or regenerative abilities. They also can't teleport or fly in their anthropoid forms. As a result, ghouls are the easiest demon to kill. Finally, they're active at night (HDB, Laito's Maniac Epilogue).
Known Clan Members: Yuuri, unknown Sakamaki family butler and unknown male (DL game: Lost Eden, Kino).
Tumblr media
Unknown male ghoul Sakamaki butler (DL anime: Sea. 1).
Humans
Most humans live in the Human World unknowingly alongside the demon species as some demons prefer to live in the human world. Some humans, like Seiji Komori, are Vampire Hunters (HDB & DL manga). But they keep their occupation a secret as Yui was unaware of this about her father. Vampire Hunters hate vampires, yet they can be hired by vampires to kill their own kin for the sake of having one less demon roam the earth (HDB, Reiji's Route). Although they're considered the weakest species to ever exist, humans can climb the social hierarchy in the demon world. They can have romantic relationships with demons and reproduce with them due to demons requiring their blood. However, the best way for a human to integrate into demon society is to have their heart replaced with a demon's heart. Unfortunately, this turns the human into an unknown race.
Tumblr media
Vampire Hunter, Seiji (DL manga).
Demons: Unknown Races
Depending on the demon heart's rank, the human will be considered the same rank as the demon heart they possess because it's pumping the specific demon race's blood throughout the person's body. As such, the person is no longer completely human. Yui has the heart of a half Vibora Princess and a half First Blood Princess. Due to this, the human girl is considered as such and is treated equally to both said demon races. Thus, she can continue any demon race bloodline (DL anime: Sea. 1, DL manga, DL game: HDB & DL game: LE, Reiji's Maniac 10).
Kino is another unknown demon race. He's a creature created from the essence of Karlheinz. Due to this, it can be argued he is his illegitimate son in a strange sense, thanks to being made from his DNA. After all, another living individual related to someone's genetics is the definition of a person's offspring. However, Karl doesn't consider Kino his son because he wasn't conceived naturally. His demon rank is unclear as he possesses a seemingly perfect copy of Karl's powers despite not being a vampire (DL game: LE, Kino's Route).

The the wig that it Hed, can I get some fic recs where Stiles 'dies', not like for real but I read one you recommended, 'Betrayal' by littleredridinghunter where the pack thinks he died but they later find him in a fighting ring. Any chance you know of others like this? Where everyone thinks he's dead but he reappears as a bamf?
You quite literally don't have to go far, Littleredridinghunter has similar fics. Just a few for example (but def check out their profile):
The Ultimate Sacrifice by Littleredridinghunter
The Darach has a plan. One that may cost one pack member their life. When the worst happens can the pack move on? Can Derek? Four years later with Fae murdering in Beacon Hills, a powerful mage may be their only hope. Only it might not be the hope they are expecting.
Set your wolves on me by Littleredridinghunter
Kate set the Hale house on fire, killing most of the pack, their emissary Claudia Stilinski and her child, Stiles. Thirteen years later and Kate is back in town, planning something that Derek is sure will end in disaster for them. Good job he decides to kidnap the gorgeous teenager who smells like her and beat some information out of him. Probably not the smartest move Derek's ever had!
Remedy For Memory by aerowyn
Derek knows he should accept that Stiles is gone; everyone else has and is grieving. But he just can’t escape all the memories of Stiles that follow him wherever he goes. He even dreams in memories these days. He keeps thinking about all the things that might have been, all the missed opportunities that he let pass by because he was waiting for the right moment to finally give in to his feelings for Stiles. And now that Stiles is gone, there isn’t any time left. When Derek starts dreaming about an abandoned warehouse, he thinks he’s going crazy at first. But then he starts to notice that things in his dreams aren’t exactly like he remembered. And he doesn’t know why, maybe he’s delusional, but he just can’t shake the feeling that Stiles really isn’t dead.
this one with Derek presumed dead
The Decay of a Cosmos by Dexterous_Sinistrous
The memory of Derek confessing to him in the quiet of their shared resignation sparked from her words–“A child is leverage to my mother.” Derek knew what Talia wanted. And he refused to give it to her. Stiles’ hands tightened into fists. This was a gift, but not one Derek had given him willingly. He would live with that knowledge each time he held their son close. ~*~ A tale as old as arranged marriage, with a space opera twist.
Ten Years Hiatus (in our love story) by bistiles (alis)
Derek was many things, most of them not at all flattering, but the one thing Derek never considered himself was insane. Stiles though. Stiles was the very reason why Derek was, right in that moment, questioning his sanity. Because after ten long, painful years, he could smell Stiles outside his apartment and that was driving Derek right into the madness alley.
A Criminal and His Lucky Charm by Dexterous_Sinistrous
Please forgive yourself. For what? For allowing yourself to let someone in. For letting me love you. I didn’t deserve it, but that wasn’t your fault. Derek, please, just do it. Please— please don’t drag this out. Derek Hale valued Stiles above everyone—everything. And Stiles betrayed that. In the end, he figured if he had to die, dying in Derek’s arms wasn’t so bad. He could at least have that.
Bad Blood by DiscontentedWinter
Stiles Stilinski was taken from Beacon Hills when he was ten years old. Now, six years later, he’s a trained hunter, and he’s back to help the Argents finish the job they started.
Going, Going, Gone by paradis
The Sheriff comes up to him after the services. "I don't believe he's dead," he tells Derek.
and, of course, linking the fic anon mentioned:
Betrayal by Littleredridinghunter
Gerard does something despicable and the pack are left shattered after Stiles is killed…. or is he?? Set at the end of season 2 because honestly I have a fascination with that episode! Canon compliant up until then but then everything goes a little crazy! Do not read if you don't like Hurt or kidnapped Stiles because there is a lot of it….

More Than Honour
Bonus Chapter: The Viscount, The Rogue, and The Runaway Suitor
Anthony Bridgerton x fem!reader
It’s a quiet afternoon, just after tea. The kind of stillness that only exists to be interrupted.
You’re in the music room with Eloise and Hyacinth when the butler appears with a card on a tray. (The same man who, with impeccable timing, once announced Lord Blackbourne’s arrival back in Chapter Thirteen.)
“Lord Adrian Hartfield to see you, my lady.”
Hyacinth immediately looks up, eyes gleaming. “A new suitor?”
Eloise hums thoughtfully. “That’s not a name we’ve heard before.”
You tilt your head. “He claims we met at Lady Araminta’s garden party last spring.”
“He brought peonies,” the butler adds, as though it were the most salacious detail of all.
“I didn’t think they were in season,” Hycinth remarks.
Eloise grins. “Then clearly he’s trying very hard.”
You glance toward the hallway, where the Bridgerton household has just become aware of the development.
Gregory: gasping, already whispering into Colin’s ear.
Benedict: casually leaning on the bannister, watching the front door.
Lucien: appearing out of nowhere, arms folded, that smug tilt to his brow already locked in place.
He walks to your side, whispers just loud enough:
“Are we expecting floral desperation today, or is this a surprise delivery?”
You elbow him gently.
“Jealous?”
Lucien chuckles. “Angel, if I were any less secure, I’d have challenged him to a duel for the bouquet.”
The Front Hall.
Lord Adrian Hartfield is polite, composed, and devastatingly awkward in the presence of an audience made entirely of people who don’t want him there.
“I hope I’m not intruding,” he says, offering the flowers.
Lucien, standing far too close behind you, murmurs, “Too late.”
You hide your smile. Barely.
Anthony enters from the opposite end of the hall.
He freezes.
He was not informed of any “new” callers. Especially not tall, well-dressed ones with off-season flowers and a too-easy smile.
His jaw tightens. His voice, however, is calm—too calm.
“Who’s this?”
Lord Hartfield turns. “Lord Hartfield. I’ve come to call on—”
“She’s not receiving visitors,” Anthony cuts in, smoothly. “She’s been unwell.”
You blink. “I have not.”
 Anthony doesn’t look at you.
Lucien does.
He watches the flicker of confusion on your face, the guarded expression Anthony wears like armor.
“Well, this is awkward,” Colin whispers to Hyacinth.
Benedict stands elegantly, arms crossed. “Shall we sit? I think I’d like to see how this unfolds.”
Gregory, clearly thrilled by this new plot twist, leans toward Eloise. “Do you think he’ll live?”
Eloise whispers, “If he doesn’t trip over his own bravado, Lucien might make it look like an accident.”
The Garden “Walk”
You are accompanied by not one but two silent bodyguards. Lucien and Anthony flank either side of the path while Lord Hartfield attempts polite conversation.
It’s clear he came with confidence. That confidence is now being methodically shredded.
Anthony is silent. Lucien is smiling far too politely.
“Did you say you breed horses?” Lucien asks, tone pleasant.
“Yes—Arabians.”
Lucien nods. “I prefer wolves. Less cooperative. Much more honest.”
“Beautiful, but temperamental,” Anthony says. “Much like men who think a single bouquet entitles them to affection.”
Lucien sighs dramatically. “And here I thought I was the jealous one.”
You: “Gentlemen—”
Lucien turns to you. “Angel, tell me. What exactly did this man say to warrant a visit?”
Anthony: “She has suitors enough.”
Lucien: “Not enough to stop trying.”
Adrian stops walking.
“Would you excuse me?” he says. “I think I may have left something in my carriage.”
Lucien smiles. Anthony smirks.
You roll your eyes.
He never returns.
Hyacinth, watching from the window: “We should do this again next week.”

SKZ War Chapter 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trigger Warnings: none
Lucas Bahng, the born Apex Alpha, liked to think being untouchable was one of his best traits. Being the son of the legendary alpha Christopher Bahng helped. People at school avoided picking fights with him, and the few who dared learned quickly why that was a mistake. Of course, he had the temperament and attitude of his mother Y/N, the Luna, the Omega. Then there was Lucas' younger brother Moon, who was always two steps ahead of him in class and ready to remind him of it at every turn. They even shared classes together. Werewolf lore, art, history, maths, they were together. Even though Lucas was fourteen and Moon was thirteen. The two, however always got up to no good together. They liked to go exploring after school when they were supposed to return home by a certain time, otherwise they would get into trouble with their fathers. By fathers they meant Minho along with Felix who were massive worriers.
"You're going to get us in trouble," Moon said as the two of them skidded to a halt at the edge of the packhouse yard. His voice was quiet but firm, as always. Moon didn't shout or scold. He didn't need to. Lucas rolled his eyes and flicked the collar of his jacket. "Not if you keep up," he said, grinning. He didn't like being told what to do, especially by his younger brother.
They had slipped out of the house early that morning, ducking their father's sharp gaze and the ever-watchful eyes of their many siblings. Breakfast was chaotic as usual, with Holly, Seungmins daughter screaming about not getting the last pancake and Astra, Hyunjins daughter the twin of Sun, knocking over the juice carton. Lucas had barely gotten out the door before Chan cornered him about sports practice. All because he was failing class. Lucas hated sports. Not because he couldn't play—he was decent enough—but because Chan was a mean teacher. Chan was tough on him at school but once he was home he was spoiled rotten. His father adored him.
The moment Chan turned his attention to Moon, Lucas bolted, dragging his brother with him. "Where are we even going?" Moon asked, his dark eyes narrowing. "You know father will here about this. He'll tell father Chan and father Seungmin. Father Seungmin is already grumpy this morning because Sun spilt his drink." Lucas smirked. "Then I guess we don't get caught."
The morning was brisk, the kind that nipped at their skin but didn't quite bite. The forest surrounding the packhouse stretched endlessly, towering pines blotting out the rising sun. Lucas knew these woods like the back of his hand. He and Moon had spent years exploring them, sneaking away from lessons, and pretending to be lone wolves on some grand adventure. But today, the forest felt... different. "Do you smell that?" Moon asked suddenly, sniffing the air. Lucas paused, tilting his head. The breeze carried the usual scents of pine and earth, but beneath it was something sharp, metallic. His heart quickened. "Yeah. It's weird." Moon's hand brushed his arm. "We should go back. This isn't normal." "Relax," Lucas said, though his voice lacked its usual confidence. "It's probably just an old trap or something. We'll check it out and head back before anyone notices we're gone."
The two moved deeper into the woods, the trees closing in around them. The metallic scent grew stronger, mingling with something else, something rotting. Lucas forced down the uneasiness bubbling in his chest. He was an apex, the son of an alpha. He didn't get scared. Still, he couldn't ignore the way Moon was gripping his sleeve now, his quiet demeanor replaced with tension. "Look," Moon whispered. Ahead, the trees parted into a small clearing. At its center stood an old, crumbling house. Vines snaked up its walls, and the windows were dark, like empty sockets in a skull. But what caught Lucas' attention wasn't the house itself, it was the circle surrounding it.
A faint, shimmering barrier encased the house, pulsing with a dark aura. Shadows twisted and writhed within it, and the air buzzed with a low hum, like the growl of a predator waiting to strike. "What is that?" Moon whispered, his voice barely audible. Lucas stepped closer, his eyes narrowing. The barrier was alive, almost breathing. The shadows inside moved with purpose, their shapes flickering between humanoid and monstrous. "Trapped souls," Moon said, his voice trembling. "We learned about this in lore class. That's—" "I know what it is," Lucas snapped, cutting him off. He didn't like the way his chest tightened at the sight of the barrier. He didn't like the way the shadows seemed to notice them, pressing against the edge of the circle as if testing its strength. "Let's go," Moon said, tugging at Lucas' arm. "We shouldn't be here." But Lucas didn't move. Something inside the house was calling to him. It wasn't a voice, not exactly, but a pull, like a thread tugging at the edge of his mind. He took a step forward, and the hum grew louder. "Lucas!" Moon's voice was sharper now, edged with panic. "I'm just looking," Lucas said, though his feet carried him closer. He reached out a hand, hesitating just before touching the barrier. The air around it was cold, and the shadows surged, their shapes twisting violently.
Then he heard it. Lucas. The voice was faint, barely more than a whisper, but it was there. Lucas froze, his heart hammering. "Did you hear that?" Moon shook his head, his eyes wide. "Hear what?" Lucas. Moon. This time, the voice was stronger, more insistent. Lucas turned to Moon, but his brother was already backing away, shaking his head furiously. "We need to go. Now. We need to tell father"
Before Lucas could respond, the barrier flickered, and the shadows parted. For a brief moment, he saw a figure standing in the doorway of the house. It was hard to make out through the swirling darkness, but the figure was tall, with an aura that made the hair on the back of Lucas' neck stand up. "Who are you?" Lucas called out, his voice trembling despite himself. The figure didn't answer. Instead, the voice came again, directly in Lucas' mind Help me.
The barrier pulsed, and the figure stepped forward. Lucas could see him more clearly now. He was young, maybe in his twenties, with sharp features and eyes that glowed faintly in the dim light. His expression was calm, almost serene, but there was an intensity in his gaze that made Lucas shiver. "My name..." the figure said aloud, his voice like the wind cutting through the trees. "Is Hongjoong."The barrier surged again, and the shadows lashed out, forcing Hongjoong back into the darkness. Lucas stumbled, the pull in his chest breaking as the connection severed.Moon grabbed his arm, yanking him away from the clearing. "We're leaving. Now." For once, Lucas didn't argue.
Back at the packhouse, Lucas couldn't shake the image of Hongjoong's face. The way he had called out to them, the way the shadows seemed desperate to keep him trapped. It all swirled in his mind like a storm. "What was that?" Moon asked quietly as they slipped through the door. "I don't know," Lucas said. But deep down, he knew this was just the beginning. "Maybe we should tell mum?" Moon suggested, but Lucas shook his head. "She's always been weird on that topic. Even our fathers have, yet they expect us to learn about it." Lucas answered back. "Learn about what?" Father Jisung asked them as he touched their shoulders making the boys jump. "Nothing." They stated. Yet it wasn't nothing. It was something deep and hidden in the depths of the woods.

Oh my god, the au where Daemon and the boys end up in Winterfell has hilarious potential.Ned is frantically looking for a way to hide 2 kids and 2 dragons, Cat is first furious because of suspicions of repeated treason and then terrified because it looks like they're about to commit treason.Robb, Jon, Bran and Theon are dying to find out what these strange children they met on the way back from the execution are.Robert if he finds out about the boy who looks like Rhaegar will be furious, Cersei is absolutely thrilled (she's willing to wait). Daemon who was "thrown" further away from Winterfell goes after his children, which horrifies half the North.I'm especially curious how Viserys and Dany will react to the new Targaryens. Jon Connington better not be told about Rhaegar, he'll have a heart attack.
Any time you throw a bunch of Targaryens and dragons into a world that has zero-to-few of either, it's gonna be a mess. And holy shit, Cersei being "willing to wait" is so horrific but also so in character. 😱 (OTOH, Daemon is also a very handsome man and not dissimilar to Rhaegar, and he's about to be seizing power. In the brief window before Daemon learns about the Lannister treachery and how it killed OG!Rhaegar's children, she might have some ambitions there.)
I hadn't thought about them encountering Jon and Rhaegar on the way back from the execution. That's probably too early, since that's when they get the dire wolves, which is roughly two months before Robert arrives. Daemon would surely have found the twins by then and/or wreaked enough havoc with Caraxes in search of them to change the course of Robert feeling safe enough to travel North. But perhaps Daemon is displaced slightly in time as well? That gives Jon and Rhaegar time to settle in, grief-stricken at losing Daemon and the world they'd grown to regard as their own, and vulnerable with their young dragons. Oh, but the heartache of Jon seeing the other Jon with baby!Ghost and feeling the loss of his own Ghost.
Viserys's instability is pretty set at this point, so I suspect he doesn't survive long once he and Dany join Daemon's growing gaggle of Targaryens. (He might even make an attempt on one of the boys to steal one of their dragons.). Since Dany is pregnant and with Drogo at this point, it might be more of a struggle to extract them unless we handwave the book timeline a bit to have Dany's marriage happen not when she's thirteen ffs.
I do think that bb!Rhaegar will be regarded as Daemon's son and not the original Rhaegar because no timeline makes sense there; he can't be Rhaegar's dead son Aegon because the ages don't match up and obviously he's not Rhaegar himself. Even DAEMON being around makes no sense, but people are slightly more willing to accept that he's himself, given Caraxes and Dark Sister. And sure, okay, he has two other sons that history doesn't know about by his first wife. But anyone who knew Rhaegar before and sees him is gonna be making those comparisons, in the same way that Resonant!Jon and Ned's Jon are gonna be compared. Eerily similar, but also noticeably different in ways where their relation to Daemon is clear.
Politically, I think it's a terrible decision for Ned to shelter the boys and their dragons, but given how alike this Jon looks to his own, and Jon himself saying things that only his Jon would know to convince him to protect them--he's going to be torn.
