I’ve spent way too much time trying to find the perfect character workbook. Something that actually goes deep, asks the right questions, and helps me figure out who my characters really are. But nothing ever fully hit the mark… so I made my own.
This is just one page out of a whole bunch. The workbook covers 15 main and side characters, dives into all the juicy stuff like personality, backstory, habits, looks, and even includes a big list of good & bad traits to mix things up.
If you’re a writer and love building characters as much as I do, feel free to check it out. Maybe it’ll be the one you’ve been looking for too.

Went out to the pond to take this photo, and heard the first spring peepers of the year. Yay! It's officially spring in Downeast, Maine.
This illustration is one over 100 I did for the forth Nature Smarts activity book from Mass Audubon and Storey Publishing. Nature Smarts Workbook: All About Water, Ages 4-6 is available for preorder now, and out May 21st. You can find it through Amazon, Mass Audubon, and other book sellers.

Describing Gender Beyond the Binary, a game created by frogwatching
Content: Rated G. Friendly for all ages.
Medium: A zine. 16 pages, with covers. Layout for reading on screen.
About: A workbook for describing your gender by plotting it on a grid, where the reference points are other concepts than a male-female axis.
Vibe: Innovative, approachable, makes difficult concepts look easy.
To feature this creation by frogwatching, I include this zine in my itch.io collections on questioning, transgender, nonbinary, and xenogender. It's in my curated collections about LGBTQIA. I'm doing this series of Tumblr posts reviewing and featuring other people's creations with links to where you can see them on itch.io to celebrate and draw attention to the cool stuff that folks make.

Getting Started on Making a Workbook?
Carcass is currently out with the publishers for academic review, and I'm blessed with some time to consider future projects.
My three biggest ideas are a carcassy photo book, giving bone-hunting tours, and making a workbook focused on finding, cleaning, and understanding bones. Maybe none of them will happen, but regarding the workbook idea:
Can you recommend any workbooks I should look at for inspo?
Do you know of any good, trustworthy, professional guides or groups I should look at?
Luckily I already have:
A literary agent and knowledge of trad pub
Knowledge about bones and bone-hunting
OK enough graphic design skills (or maybe I'd hire someone)
Social media followers interested in dead stuff
Some other really good bone people maybe potentially on board (for a maybe potential project)

🤩 I’m so excited to finally show you what I’ve been working on for a while! My first-ever art guide: “Stylize Anyone from Reference: A Step-by-step Guide to Stylized Portraits of Different Ethnicities”
I wrote this workbook after receiving your amazing feedback on my last YouTube short. I wanted to expand and complete the information in my videos in one place, so here we are! In the workbook, you'll learn how to study a reference, turn each facial feature into simple shapes, let go of unnecessary realistic details, study and draw different ethnicities, and understand the traits that define a person’s look. All are explained in simple steps.
🚀 It’s not all, I’m running a sale to celebrate the launch, get 30% OFF the workbook until the 20th of December!
If you’re interested and want to know more, here is the link to my store: www.aki-anyway.com
I hope this workbook will help you reach your stylization goals!

Workbook Magic
I am working on a workbook for me to help journal and keep track of my notes. I previously had a vintage looking book that I was writing in with a fountain pen. Though I enjoyed it, I didn't really have time to write my notes in a regular journal/BOS and then transfer into the Grimoire. It's the same issue I have with bullet journals. I love to do it, but drawing all of the pages out for each day and week etc is time I don't have. Buying a planner means there are things I won't use.
Creating my own workbook gives me exactly what I think I might need!
Pages for weekly exploration, pages for mini daily check in, pages for monthly exploration, blank pages and lined pages for jotting and doodling or stickers, pages for keeping my spells and spell jars, pages for card divination, reference pages for information I constantly have to look for in other locations (BOS, random papers, phone notes etc), rituals and such that I am incorporating into my practice...
I can't wait until it comes in the mail! 💌
