Just think how fucking devastating it would be. Peter and Parker have lost so much that have made up their lives. They've lost almost all their loved ones, their friends and family, their way of life. And wouldn't killing Harley Quinn, who has fast become a parental/aunt figure just make that angst all the sweeter? And the fall out of it, not just in Peter's life, but Poison Ivy's, the Riddler's, all of the Batfam's, particularly Bruce Wayne's. So much angst to feed from, so much emotion and turmoil. Tasty, tasty anguish.

In favour of NO:

Peter and Parker have lost so much, it would be a sign that maybe, just maybe, this new universe could bring some hope. Something for Peter to hold onto. It would make his journey back to his father, Dick, a bit smoother, and a bit kinder. And doesn't Peter deserve to be treated gently for once in his life? Doesn't he deserve a happier ending where it doesn't come at the cost of blood and tears?

Have you read You With the Watercolour Eyes by definitelynotindecisive on ao3? A friend of mine recommended it to me, but I'm not sure if I want to invest the time in reading all of it, especially since it's at chapter 50 and still not completed yet.

It can be at bit l+slow at some points. I would recommend this if your a fan of fics where Dick is Peter's father. If you don't think that alone can keep you going for 180,000 words, you might want to shelf it.

Dick's arms fell to his sides, and his throat went tight. “He's… He’s alive ?” He felt like his stomach had fallen out of his body, like his legs were going to give out under him. He tried to control his breathing as he felt it begin to speed up and tears fill his eyes. His son, his son, was alive . He wasn’t going to find him, cold, unmoving, sightless eyes. He was breathing, able-bodied, uncle-punching, alive . He didn’t know if he was going to burst into hysterical laughter, or sobs. Or both. 

“Yeah, Dick,” Barbara said softly. “He’s alive.” 

His breath caught, and his chest felt like it had seized up as a thought occurred to him. “Wait, you said that the sewer kid and firehouse kid were one in the same, and that… and that… Oh my days, I’ve been talking to my own son for a month… and I… I had no idea. He’s been alive and here this whole time. This whole fucking time .” How quickly relief and grief could turn into anger. 

“It’s okay,” Barbara said soothingly. “You know he’s safe, he’s been safe for months and Killer Croc won’t hurt him.” 

Dick stared at her, uncomprehendingly. “I left my son on a rooftop . I let him squat in a blown-out building in Crime Alley . I didn’t protect him from Talons . They got to him, and I wasn’t there for him. I haven’t been there his whole life, and you think he’s okay ? That he’s safe ?”

So I've never really written a fic like this before, I've never really been a Marvel girly outside of like, being a Stucky shipper. But after stumbling across a few Peter Parker in Gotham fics, I thought I'd try my hand at it. I'd really appreciate it if I could get some feedback on it. It's going to have all the self-indulgent tropes, because that's what I enjoy writing, just to warn you straight off if that's not your cup of tea.

Small excerpt from the fic:

But instead of stepping through a portal normally, like Peter would have thought, he found himself suddenly submerged in water. Though, it might not have been water at all, considering it was glowing bright green, burned slightly against his skin and felt much heavier than regular water. Peter swam as hard as he could, trying to reach the top, as his chest burned at the sudden lack of oxygen. After some struggle, given the weight of his clothing and his go-bag, he finally made it, breaching the surface of the pool, gasping for breath. Normally, he could hold his breath for quite some time because of the spider bite. But it only worked if he knew to take a deep breath in the first place. 

Peter flopped onto the hard stone ground beside the pool of glowing water, the room or cave really, was illuminated by green light emanating from the pool. There looked to be torches around the cave that had long since burned out. They didn’t look like they’d been lit in hundreds of years. Groaning as he stumbled to his feet, dragging his now waterlogged gym bag with him, Peter tried to take stock of himself. He was dripping wet, obviously, but something else felt… odd. 

He wasn’t wearing his Iron Spider suit, and his under clothes seemed to be hanging off him, as if several sizes too big. He looked down and quickly examined his body. He was much smaller than he remembered being, that was for sure. He walked back to the pool, just to try and check out his reflection, and saw his thirteen-year-old self reflected back at him, sans the dorky glasses and haircut. The year he had been bitten by the spider that altered his DNA and gave him his enhanced abilities. He swallowed harshly, his gaze barely registering a weird white streak in his fringe, and stepped away from the pool.
