For some reason, the international media is entirely uninterested in reporting about how some Israeli Muslims — Arabs and Druze — have rallied to help defend their country against Hamas. Bassam Tawil has more on this subject here: “‘Like…wtf’: Israel’s Arab Citizens Feel Lucky,” by Bassam Tawil, Gatestone Institute, January 25, 2024:
IDF Sergeant First Class (reserve) Ahmed Abu Latif, 26, a husband and father to a one-year-old baby, was killed on January 22 during the fighting between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Abu Latif, a Muslim citizen of Israel, embodied the spirit of unity and patriotism in Israel in the aftermath of Hamas’s October 7 massacre of Israelis. He also represented a shining example of coexistence and unwavering love for Israel. In a message on Facebook at the beginning of the war, Abu Latif, who was working as a security guard at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, wrote:
Two days after the massacre, Israeli Arab blogger Nuseir Yassin, popularly known as “Nas Daily,” posted the following on X (formerly Twitter):
The atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7 — among the victims were also some Israeli Arabs — have pushed some Israeli Arabs who previously self-identified as “Palestinian-Israelis” to instead identify more closely with the Jewish state, declaring themselves to be “Israeli Arabs” or, as in the case of this popular blogger, Nuseir Yassin, shedding the modifier altogether, and now call themselves “Israelis.”
The Hamas atrocities did not drive a wedge between Jewish and Arab Israelis, as Yahya Sinwar may have hoped. Instead, the events of October 7 led to greater identification by Israeli Arabs and Druze with the Jewish state. Three-quarters of Israeli Arabs reported having “good relations” with Jews; almost as many — 70% — identify with the Jewish state, and far from wishing for its disappearance, recognize how lucky they are to be citizens of the only decently run government in the Middle East.
In Israel, Arab soldiers, both Muslim and Druze, have been fighting against the Hamas terrorists; some have been killed in Gaza, defending the Jewish state. Others were killed in Israel by Hamas on October 7; some Arabs, especially Bedouin, were taken hostage on that day. Druze have a long history of joining the IDF; the highest-ranking IDF officer who has been killed in this war was a Druze, Lt. Col. Salman Habaka. Another Druze casualty was Major Jamal Abbas, whose father and grandfather had both served in the IDF. Another Druze who answered the call on October 7 was a woman, Nisreen Yousef, who immediately volunteered to interrogate captured Hamas terrorists to discover where others were hiding; she passed on the information to the IDF, that promptly located and captured them.
The stories of these Muslims who volunteered to defend the Jewish state, and some who died in that struggle, should be more widely known. They undermine all the stories about Israel as an “apartheid state,” where Muslims are supposedly oppressed. These Arab and Druze volunteers for the IDF know otherwise; they are fighting for what they know is “their” country.
The stories about the Israeli Arabs whose rise to the summit of their professions also fatally vitiate the claims that Israel is an “apartheid” state. These stories need to be told. There is Samer Haj Yehia, the Chairman of Israel’s largest bank, Bank Leumi. And Judge Khaled Kabub, who in 2022 became the first Muslim, though not the first Arab, Justice on Israel’s Supreme Court. Jewish and Arab physicians work side by side in Israeli hospitals. Arab and Druze women have risen high in the medical profession and in academia. Prof. Mouna Maroun, Vice President and Dean of Research at University of Haifa and the former Head of the Sagol Department of Neurobiology, is the first Arab woman to hold a senior faculty position in natural sciences. Another is Prof. Mona Khoury-Kassabri, who in 2021 been elected Vice President of Strategy and Diversity at the university. It was the first time that a member of the Arab community was appointed to a senior position of vice president. “I am deeply honored to be the first Arab to serve as a Hebrew University Vice President,” Khoury-Kassabri said. 43% of Israelis who have just become doctors are now Arabs and Druze, a staggering statistic, given that Arabs and Druze are only 20% of the population. Compare that fact with the way Palestinians in most Arab states are prohibited from practicing certain professions, including engineering, law, and medicine.
Perhaps someone in the media will devout a program, full of human interest, to the Arab and Druze in Israel, some of whom have given their lives for the Jewish state. Others were victims of Hamas terrorists on October 7. And the program should explain the fact — never mentioned in the mainstream media — that 70% of Israeli Arabs now say they identify with the Jewish state as their country too, a place where they receive equal treatment before the law and where it is possible for Arabs to rise high in Israeli society — in law, banking, and especially, medicine. That might startle some of those mindlessly chanting about “apartheid” Israel, if not to change their chant, at least to keep quiet.

16 April 2024: King Abdullah II said Jordan’s security and sovereignty are above all considerations, stressing that the protection of Jordanians comes above all else.
Commenting on recent regional developments during a meeting with local community leaders and figures in Mafraq Governorate, His Majesty reiterated that Jordan will not be a battlefield for any party.
At the meeting, held at the Hijaz Railway’s Mafraq Station and attended by Crown Prince Hussein, the King expressed pride in fellow brothers in arms, noting that military retirees support the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and security personnel in defending the nation and safeguarding its future.
His Majesty highlighted the historical value of Mafraq city, as well as its strategic location on international routes.
The King said at the meeting, held as part of ongoing outreach visits to mark the Silver Jubilee, that Mafraq residents have capitalised on the important location of the governorate, turning it into a meeting point for everyone.
His Majesty noted the variety of agricultural produce in Mafraq, stressing the importance of investments in industry and renewable energy in the governorate, which has further potential for development in various fields.
The King said Mafraq was largely affected by the refugee crisis, reaffirming his trust that Jordanians can transform challenges into opportunities.
For his part, Mafraq Governor Salman Najada stressed Jordanians’ support for His Majesty’s leadership, and their pride in army and security personnel, who protect the homeland, congratulating His Majesty on the Silver Jubilee and highlighting achievements in Mafraq over the past 25 years.
He praised the King’s wisdom in dealing with regional crises, as well as his support for the Palestinians, especially in Gaza.
Earlier, upon arrival in Mafraq, His Majesty inaugurated BIA Textile Company, an investment valued at $149 million, at the King Hussein bin Talal Development Zone.
The King was briefed by the company’s owner, Sanal Kumar, on the project, which is a subsidiary of Classic Fashion Apparel Industry, the largest textile company in Jordan and the Middle East.
Kumar said the company seeks to create job opportunities for the local community and support economic growth in Jordan, in line with the Economic Modernisation Vision.
BIA Textile Company, in its current first stage, employs 320 employees, including 120 Jordanians, and is expected to employ 850 additional personnel, including 300 Jordanians, in its second phase, which concludes by the end of 2025.
Upon arrival at the Hijaz Railway’s Mafraq Station prior to the outreach meeting, the King was received by Mafraq Band for Popular Arts, and Samer Revival band, in addition to a poetry recital.
During the meeting, His Majesty bestowed the Silver Jubilee Medal on individuals and institutions in Mafraq, in recognition of their contributions to serving Jordan, especially the local community in the governorate.
Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Adviser to His Majesty for Tribal Affairs Kneiaan Bluwi attended the meeting.

Dangerous development Israel is preparing to send ships to Egypt and introduce fifth generation aircraft into the war
Updates on the Al-Aqsa Flood operation presented in this episode of Samri Channel. Starting with the Bahraini Parliament, which announced that the Israeli ambassador had left the Kingdom, in exchange for the return of its ambassador from Israel, in addition to the cessation of economic relations with it. Bahrain, therefore, becomes the first country to establish relations with Israel within the framework of the Abraham Accords, and to take a decision of this kind. The Council declared that "the continuation of war and military operations, and the continuing Israeli escalation in light of the lack of respect for international humanitarian law, prompts the Council to demand more decisions and measures that preserve the lives and lives of innocent people and civilians in Gaza and all Palestinian areas."
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, according to the statement, expressed his “pride and pride in the keenness and interest given by the King of the country, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to support the Palestinian cause, and his firm and unwavering position, and the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.” Eastern Province, in accordance with international resolutions. Bahrain concluded a peace agreement and diplomatic relations with Israel, in September 2020, and appointed its first ambassador to Tel Aviv, in August 2021, who is Khaled Yousef Al-Jalahma, while Israel appointed its ambassador to Manama, in December 2021, who is Aitan Naei.
On the other hand, US President Joe Biden said that he supports a “pause” in the war between Hamas and Israel, to allow “prisoners” to leave the Gaza Strip. The statement comes despite the United States' refusal, since the beginning of events on October 7, to call for a ceasefire, as it repeatedly stressed Israel's right to defend itself, and believed that stopping the war was in the interest of the Hamas movement. On the other hand, the White House announced that it will develop a strategy to combat Islamophobia, explaining that this strategy will be developed in coordination with the communities concerned.
US President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday, in response to a man who interrupted him during an election rally, that he supports a “pause” in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, in order to allow “prisoners” to leave the Gaza Strip. While Biden was speaking at a campaign fundraising event, a man interrupted the Democratic president, saying: “As a rabbi, I ask you to call for an immediate ceasefire.”
The 80-year-old president, who is seeking a second term in elections scheduled for next year, responded: “I think we need a pause. The pause means allowing time to extract the prisoners.” In response to a question about Biden’s statement, the White House said that what the president meant by the word “prisoners” were the hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In defending his position during this war, Biden said: “I was the one who convinced Bibi (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) to call for a ceasefire to get the prisoners out. I was the one who spoke to (Egyptian President Abdel Fattah) Sisi to convince him to open the door” of the Rafah crossing, which It connects the southern sector to Egypt. Commenting on this aspect of the US President’s statement, the White House said that Biden meant the two American hostages who were recently released by the Hamas movement.
In another context, the Israeli ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, said today (Thursday) that Israel has asked foreign countries to send floating hospitals as a possible means of providing treatment for wounded Palestinians who are allowed to leave the war-torn Gaza Strip for Egypt, according to what the agency reported. «Reuters». In an interview with the Israeli public broadcaster, Radio Kan, Prosor said that such a request had been submitted by Germany and other countries. He described the scenario explained by Radio Kan, regarding the boarding of these wounded on board such floating ships in the Egyptian port of Al-Arish, as accurate. Egypt is preparing to receive 7,000 foreigners scheduled to be evacuated from the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing, according to what the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement, today.
Finally, Robert Jordan, the former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia, spoke in an interview with CNN anchor Becky Anderson about the possible reason for the visit of the Saudi Defense Minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman, to Washington amid the tense conditions in the region and the war waged by Israel in the Gaza Strip. Jordan said that the position of Saudi Arabia, which condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli ground operation in Gaza and the strike on the Jabalia camp, is not surprising, noting that “the Saudis consider themselves custodians of the two most sacred places for Sunni Muslims. They have a broader responsibility because of that. I think they will find that it is "It is almost impossible to encourage a massive Israeli invasion under these circumstances." The former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia continued by saying: “I will tell you that I think they are secretly terrified by what Hamas did, they are not friends of Hamas. And I think that if you look at it, Hamas is actually trying to undermine a number of Gulf regimes through what it did. So I think “Secretly, we will see the Saudis more cooperative, but their public statements are different.”
