The Silver-Tongued Bride
Tumblr media
STB Masterlist
Summary: Feyre has been selected as the High Lord's next bride, destined to die at the next fortnight's dawning. However, her intriguing retelling of Rhysand's favorite tale has just saved her life.
Until the next Death Dawn, of course.
Prologue
Azriel
She was astonishing.
Untrained, terrified, and out of control, yes, but... astonishing.
Azriel watched as the shadows closed around Feyre Archeron, a low-born faerie the seven High Lords had brought back from the dead after she saved Prythian from Amarantha's reign, her intention being to bring her captured sisters home. Irrelevant girls in the wrong place at the wrong time. Considering the cost of their salvation, they had turned her into a high fae and gifted her with a power comparable to Rhys'.
Not that those assholes knew it. She'd be dead all over again.
She needed training, and so long as she possessed those shadows that weren't quite the Night Lord's, it was Azriel’s place to help her.
The Wraith gift was an exceptionally rare and highly hunted ability found in fae females. He always had a few shadows out hunting, himself. After all, a spymaster needs the most skilled and discreet informants. Wraiths could move through those shadows, their form becoming nothing but mist and darkness should they wish it. Faster than winnowing or flight.
Few fae had managed to trap one, considering their swift escapes. Typically quick enough to avoid chains, their gift could only be nullified with ashwood. They were truly his most flawless spies. Considering how Feyre's other gifts could be weaponized, he had to bring her into the fold.
Reaching through those shadows without a thought, Azriel gripped her around the arms. "Breathe," he instructed her. "Easy. Start reaching for the top, back into the sunlight." She slumped against the tree behind her as the shadows cleared, her head thumping against the trunk. "H-How did you know how to help?" she asked, not yet opening her eyes.
"I have a similar gift."
"Curse, more like." She peeled her eyes open. "Thank you..."
"Azriel."
She eyed the shadows swirling around him, itching to taunt and teach hers. Ready her for the ranks. "We have a lot to cover if you want to get a handle on that, Archeron. I can help."
Her expression turned wary at his casual use of her name, not that Prythian's savior could keep a low profile nowadays. "I'll figure out how to suppress it," she claimed rather haughtily, considering he had just pulled her out of that shadowed panic attack. "I'm not stupid enough to go making bargains."
"Not a bargain. A job offer. And immunity."
"Immunity from..."
"The Death Dawn." She flinched at the mere mention of it, still unmarried and rightfully terrified of being selected as the Night Bride. "My Wraiths are off limits and if the High Lord ever selects one I'll handle her pardoning," he assured her. "It hasn't been necessary yet, but it's a vow I'll uphold."
In this world that vow was temptation enough. "Alright. If you think you can help, give it your best."

Accepting Book Reccs
I have extremely varied tastes and not many triggers when it comes to fiction. Not all kinks are my kink but if it fits the characters I'm down for most, if not all. I am a fan of fluffy romance and dark romance both, as long as they are properly advertised as such and it's not a massive surprise. I also do not have any type of monster (or alien, or cryptid, or god) that I'm unwilling to try out. Please, hit me with your best shot.
Disclaimer: all ratings and opinions given are entirely personal.
I will not list or rate books I do not finish, because I feel it's unfair. I will not review a book that I have nothing nice to say about; writing is a lot of work and a labor of love. I will not tolerate bullying or bashing. Each review will have a link to purchase the book or download it with Kindle Unlimited.
Click a title to be taken to my review. It will take time for me to catch up, but consider this a masterpost. Triggers will be listed, but I may miss some. I'm human. Please don't hesitate to DM me if you have specific triggers you're trying to avoid and are interested in a book on my read list.

🦋Background🦋
(Early Years)
Heloise is a young fae noblewoman and handmaiden to Vidaria, her mother is of one of Queen Maleficia’s ladies in waiting and her father is a diplomat and the current viceroy of the Land of Mists. She was born a few years after the ceasefire between the Land of Mists and Briar Valley and her parents had something of a star crossed romance. Her mother was a noblewoman of the Cherith court and her family did not support her union with a retainer of the Draconia family. But as Draconia forces continued their conquest of her home, she feared what that could mean for her future and attached herself to Heloise’s father as a matter of survival. However, she developed a genuine (and more importantly, mutual) love and respect for her husband over time, despite being cast off from her family and branded a traitor.
Once Heloise was born, her father decided it was best to send her and her mother back to Briar Valley where it was more peaceful and they would be looked after by his own family. And it was in this environment that Heloise grew up, learning magic from her mother and grandmother and combat from her father. One thing she was particularly fascinated with was astronomy and studying consolations. In her father’s personal study, there was a large telescope and one of her favorite pastimes was stargazing through the telescope with him.
When she was a little older, it was decided that she would be sent to the Draconia court to be a companion to the crown prince’s bride, a lonely girl also from the Land of Mists named Vidaria.
(Life in the Draconia Court)
At first, Heloise and Vidaria don’t hit it off very well. Because Heloise was born after the ceasefire, she has not really experienced war first hand like Vidaria and thus had a slightly more positive outlook and worldview. And her early education was not without an unhealthy dose of Draconia propaganda regarding the cause of the war and their hand in it. Heloise also had a much kinder relationship with Lilia from the beginning because he was a friend of her father. For a while, Vidaria was as indifferent to Heloise but over time, Heloise slowly broke through her defenses with her special blend of sweetness and mischief. And there was something else Vidaria noticed about Heloise that she found rather peculiar.
Both girls has very similar hair and eyes and they stood at nearly identical height. Heloise noticed this as well and one day, when Vidaria had lessons with Lilia that she dreaded, they decided to put their resemblance to the test by swapping clothes. Heloise attended the lessons while Vidaria went out riding. Surprisingly, their ruse worked and Lilia only realized the truth when Heloise broke the 5ft distance rule that Vidaria had put in place for interacting with him. Lilia was quite amused by this, and this incident ultimately resulted in Heloise fully earning Vidaria’s trust, as well as her friendship.
For years, Heloise was Vidaria’s closest companion at the Draconia court. They would ride horses, stargaze and occasionally swap clothes to trick those around them. But while she was being a friend to her, something lingered on Heloise’s mind that she could not shake away. She did not understand Vidaria’s apprehension towards the Draconias or her fear of Lilia, both of which seemed to go against the stories she had been told about the war. After one of Vidaria’s episodes, Heloise confided in her mother who told her in confidence the whole truth about the war between Briar Valley and the Land of Mists and the catalyst for the ceasefire.
She was so shocked by what she was told that she actually excused herself from court for several days so she could sort out her feelings. Everything Heloise had been told about the war was a lie and she felt a tremendous amount of sadness for Vidaria she she now understood her feelings and how she was silently suffering for the sake of peace between the fae kingdoms. After a long depression and giving it extensive thought, Heloise determined that regardless of the orgins of the war, Briar Valley was her home and the Draconia’s had treated her and her family kindly as opposed to her mother’s family who had disowned them. She also decided she wanted to be as supportive to Vidaria as she could and she began honing her magic and combat skills with the hopes of one day becoming one of her retainers once she became queen. The first attempts by pro Cherith resistance groups to kidnap Vidaria began around this time as well and Lilia was kept busy trying to keep Vidaria safe.
Over time these attempts became more frequent and more violent and Vidaria actually began to have a change of heart regarding the Draconia’s as those who claimed to want to help her put her through one traumatic episode after another. Vidaria began to resign herself to her fate at Briar Valley’s next queen and did not appreciate how the resistance groups were still instigating conflict between the kingdoms. Especially since by this point she was about to begin attending NRC and Queen Maleficia was considering canceling her enrollment out of fear for her safety. But after some heavy pleading, the queen devised a plan that would allow Vidaria to still attend NRC and Heloise became a part of that plan.
(Freshman Year to Present Day)
This is covered more in depth in this assorted lore post, but essentially, it was decided that Vidaria would enter NRC under Heloise’s name and vice versa. This was done in part to alleviate kidnap attempts and despite the danger Heloise was placed in, she agreed, enthusiastic to be of help to the princess who had become her friend.
Their freshman year at NRC was rather pleasant for the most part since most girls had not really experienced the world outside of Briar Valley before. They were both thrilled to be experiencing the outside world and normal things like attending school and having friends. Iman became their guide to navigating this new world and both quickly flourished at NRC. Heloise joined the spelldrive team and quickly became one of its top players due to her fantastic magic and flight skills.
Unfortunately, due in part to an ongoing feud Vidaria was having with Sidonie, Heloise was placed in a very dangerous situation that following spring, resulting in her being kidnapped by a Pro-Cherith resistance group. She was taken to the Land of Mists and even after realizing that she wasn’t Vidaria, the resistance members still kept her hostage for several weeks. Because of her father’s position in the Land of Mists, this caused a major conflict which nearly broke the ceasefire between the kingdoms. Thankfully, Lilia was able to retrieve her but the ordeal left Heloise severely traumatized. She was returned to Briar Valley to recover but the process was extremely slow and for a while, her friendship with Vidaria was left very strained.
While healing, Heloise experienced terrible nightmares about her time in captivity but also had a lot of time to think about her future. One thing that occurred in captivity was that she discovered her UM and used it to escape her captors long enough for Lilia to come storming in to deal with them. She read a lot and really plunged into studying the history of the fae kingdoms and eventually began to despise those from the Land of Mists for the pain they had caused Vidaria under the guise of helping her. And her determination to stay by her side as a retainer and companion became stronger than ever.
At her parent’s insistence, she continued to sit out her sophomore year to continue recovering. For a while, it seemed that Heloise would have to be held back a year because of how much of her second year she missed. But after threatening Crowley to have Heloise continue her schooling at a rival school, (and a generous “donation” from Queen Maleficia),  her parents were able to send her back to NRC and she will be returning to complete her sophomore year after the cultural festival.
🦋Appearance🦋
Though small in stature, Heloise has a very poise and imposing air of one not openly threatening but also one not to be taken lightly. She has been described as having a very “deadly” air to her that she will occasionally use to her advantage. She bears a strong resemblance to Vidaria with the major differences being Heloise’s eyes being slightly more pointed and a more brighter green. Her hair is also a little longer and worn loose with a few braids.
On her back there are two deep wing slits that are often covered by the clothing she wears. Her wings are an iridescent blue and rosy pink with a bright golden glow that is more vibrant in dark and foggy weather. Since her wings are fully developed, she has the ability to fly without the aid of brooms but still insists on using brooms due to Vidaria’s insecurity about not being able to use her own wings.
She wears her school uniform with an open blazer, white over the knee socks and mary jane shoes with a slight kitten heel. Unless when wearing her ceremonial robes, her nails are always painted green.
~~~
🦋Personality🦋
Heloise’s personality is one of many contradictions; she is refined but mischievous, open but enigmatic. In some way’s she and Vidaria are opposites in the way they have grown up. While Vidaria was very serious and cold in her youth, she has grown into a lively and sly young lady, but Heloise, who was once very playful and cheerful in her youth, has become far more serious and stern. This is especially true after she returned home after being held hostage in the Land of Mists.
But though she is serious, she is not completely without a sense of humor and when around those she is closest to, she still indulges in causing mischief with Vidaria by her side. Prior to the end of freshman year, she, Vidaria and Iman were the best of friends and got up to many fun things at the expense of those they didn’t like.
Generally, Heloise is pretty comfortable around humans but doesn’t actively go out of her way to interact with them, the exception being Iman, Silver and surprisingly, Crisanta. She certainly has a higher opinion of humans than Sebek, but has seen enough in her life to also be wary of them. She is well aware that she appears unassuming and unthreatening and uses it to her advantage when she can. Do not let her appearance fool you! She is a determined, fighting spirit who will not hesitate to defend her and hers.
~~~
🦋Unique Magic🦋
Heloise’s unique magic is called Midnight's Veil and is essentially heightened umbrakinesis. She has the ability to manipulate shadows, including her own, and use shadows to make herself invisible.
~~~
🦋Other Skills/Talents🦋
Fencing ~ Heloise’s father is an accomplished swordsman and taught Heloise all she knows. She frequently practices her craft with Silver and Vidaria
Spelldrive ~ Prior to the end of freshman year, Heloise was one of the top players on NRC’s spelldrive team and her departure had heavy ramifications for them, resulting in yet another loss against RSA that spring.
~~~
🦋Trivia/Lore🦋
(Will be updated more over time)
Heloise’s last name is a reference to the Orkney islands, of which Morgause (sister of Morgan Le Fay) was queen.
~~~
🦋In-Canon Adventures🦋
Heloise was not attending NRC at the start of the twst prologue but appears in Book 5 when she returns to school in time for the cultural festival. She will soon appear in a future chapter of Shining Hearts.
~~~
🦋Relationships (As Of Book 5)🦋
Tumblr media
Because Heloise has only recently returned to NRC, she is not familiar with any of the freshman students. But of the second and third year’s, she gets along reasonably well with most of them though she is closest to her dormmates. While Leona doesn’t think much of Diasomnia students, he tolerates Heloise’s presence on the spelldrive team and respects her skill and grit. The only characters she doesn’t really get along with is Rook and Azul. She doesn’t trust Azul for some of his underhanded actions during their freshman year and as for Rook, she doesn’t like how he tries to pry into Vidaria’s affairs and it can be said he is partially to blame for the incident that forced her to leave NRC for most of her sophomore year.
🦋Heloise’s Relationships With My Other Twst OCs🦋
Tumblr media
As mentioned above, Heloise is currently not familiar with any of my freshman ocs, including Yuulan.

acotar au where nesta archeron refuses to let feyre go under the mountain and goes in her place. (why? no clue. maybe to show the fae not to fuck with the archerons.) amarantha is defeated because nesta isn't too distracted to solve a simple riddle and rhys can again turn people to biohazardous mist at will.
plotwise, everything changes. maybe nesta goes home and the archerons are happy until hybern kidnaps all three for tamlin's evil little potluck because *handwaves* rhys warded nesta cursebreaker and fragile mortal mate feyre's estate against any curious spring court interlopers and tried to wash his hands of the archerons in a fit of "i am the dark villain who stole the bride of spring" self-flagellation. maybe being made by the cauldron and then spirited away to the house of wind moonstone palace by the terrifying high lord who made tamlin kneel and send her away traumatizes feyre into the same depression she experienced after the canon events under the mountain.
so the one thing that remains the same? the shoes. nesta absolutely and repeatedly obliterates rhysand's fresh new haircut with her silk slippers any time he comes near her sisters.

King Oberon humiliates her, terrorizes her, and threatens those she loves. But when she escapes, someone far worse finds her. Looking Back at the Books I Read in August & September 2023
Looking back on all the books I finished during the month of August and September.
Instead of making individual posts for August and September, I decided to combine them because I’ve been really busy with moving for the last two months. Was I actively moving the entire time? No. But I was settling into a temporary living situation and making plans for what I’d need once I moved in. After that, I was putting my belongings back in order. So, while I didn’t get to read as much as…

i went looking for the book from the post i just rbed, and i did find that it had a longer summary that a) actually tells us what the book is about and b) renders the awful paragraph at the end completely unnecessary.
Tumblr media
BUT this grammar is just atrocious. so much redundancy and overuse of sentence fragments. so i spent like 30 minutes editing it bc i felt the Need to make it Readable. so i'm posting it. i even edited the ending paragraph.
A defiant human woman. A dark fae Prince. Two enemies whose marriage could destroy their world. Reyna was born a slave to the fae. As a valuable rune-marked human, she has been imprisoned her whole life in the glittering palace of the sadistic, greedy Gold Court. When the palace is raided, she seizes the opportunity to escape. But the raid is led by her worst nightmare: the Prince of the fearsome Shadow Court. And he wants one thing. Her. Forcibly betrothed to the Prince, Reyna is yet again searching for an escape. She refuses to be eternally bound to this monster in a mask. But when she discovers what lies behind it, the Prince is not at all what she expects. He fascinates her. He intoxicates her. He says he needs her. Reyna knows all too well that everyone in this world keeps deadly secrets. She does not know why the Prince wants this marriage, but if she cannot resist her captor’s charms, she risks more than just death. She risks giving away everything to him. This is the first book in the Shadow-Bound Queen series, an erotic fae romance set in a world inspired by the Vikings and Norse mythology. It features a slow-burn captor-captive romance, a romantic lead who would burn the world down for his beloved, and lots of steam with more to come. It is set in Eliza Raine's new Brides of Mist and Fae universe, which is not connected to her previous Dark Gods of Olympus universe.
as self-appointed marketing editor, i tried my best to make it sound good, but there's only so much i can do, ya know. also i'm not familiar with the plot of the book OR knowledgeable about what hooks romance readers. but enjoy i guess

The Bride
Tumblr media
A red pickup truck sits under a tree in a small community park, rain pours down around them, splashing the asphalt beneath them and dripping down between branches onto the truck. Bridget sits in the passenger seat, fidgeting with a piece of hair in her fingers, as she stares into her lap. Next to her is David, with one hand on the steering wheel as he taps it patiently, but eventually decides he should speak.
David: You sure you're okay? You seem pretty shaken after talking to Little Pond Drinker.
Bridget: Sorry…. She caught me off guard. I needed a minute after she left.
David: If you don't want to talk about it, I'm not going to force you, but it might feel good to get it off your chest. For how often you're being the diplomat for us, we really don't know much about you.
Bridget bites her bottom lip and nods, crossing her arms as she sits back in her seat sighing as she stares up at the roof of the car. The disguise dissipates into cool mist, her green eyes becoming a deep violet, her red hair turning white and mingling with pleasant flowers as deep black indents in her soft cheeks appear in her skin.
Bridget: I want to tell…. I just don't know where to start.
David: She called you "the Bride."
Bridget: sigh Yes….. I was taken by the fairies on the day of my wedding. I just got in the dress, I wanted a minute alone to myself…. And he crawled in the window and dragged me outside. I didn't know what he wanted or what it even was, he didn't look human…. But he took me off to the fey realm and before I could even make sense with what was happening I found myself walking down the aisle of an exact replica of my wedding…. Except my fiancé wasn't there.
David: You got known by fey just for that?
Bridget adjusts her position, her voice shaking if only for a moment as she continues.
Bridget: I screamed, I cried, I tried to hit him with the flowers, I tried to run away, I was scared. None of it worked, obviously, but he found it all…. funny. So, the next day he had me dressed up and we did it again. And we did it the next day, and the next day and….. I think I was forced to do a wedding almost every single day..
David swallows as he sees the distant look in Bridget's eyes, but eventually brings himself to inquire further.
David: Was it just his own private fantasy?
Bridget: Nothing private about it. He invited a lot of fey to attend these things, and some got to be my groom sometimes…. We also traveled to other courts and did it for fey as if it was a show.
She opens her palms as she waves and speaks in a mockingly theatrical tone.
Bridget: Hey everybody, let's go see the Bride as we try to make her life a living hell! Won't that be fun!
The tone quickly drops as she crosses her arms again, shaking her head as she looks at the water dripping down the window.
Bridget: So yeah…. I got around, saw lots of fae, "married" some of them.
David: That's how you know the court customs.
Bridget: sigh As much as I want to forget, I remember them all too well.
David: You remember everything?
Bridget: I still remember a few things…. vividly.
Her violet eyes begin to glow a mystical shade of green that leaves her eyes featureless
Bridget: Another wedding, my hands are tied, the roots digging into my fingers, it hurts. My keeper, he has a lady fey, maybe a girlfriend, maybe a mate, has golden hair, frightening eyes. Lady fey likes me, not sure why. She likes to put on my make up, likes to choose my clothes…. She hates that cry so much. She puts one new make up, it burns if it smears, I still want to cry, can't. Guests arrive, it happens again, walking down again, music is now weird and strange, hurts to listen to, groom is a massive toad this time. My eyes water, I feel weird, I smell something. Onions in my bouquet, eyes are burning, cheeks are burning, the make up is burning my cheeks. I start screaming, guests start laughing. My legs give out. It still hurts…. Fey start chanting, stomping feet, like it's all a big trick.
Her eyes stop glowing, her eyes now in a thousand yard stare as she swallow hard, the bitter memory still slightly present in her mind.
David: I'm sorry…. It must have been hell to just stay sane.
Bridget: Well…. that lady fae? The one with the blonde hair? She…. maybe she liked me a little? She'd dress me up and stuff, always was there for me after the weddings.
Her softening features were quickly replaced by a narrow glance and a tense lip.
Bridget: Of course, she also loved the weddings, and got mad at me for one reason or another, it wasn't like she was a good fairy, just one that might give me a warm bath at the end of the day.
She nods, as if confirming something to herself as she tugs on her sleeves, pulling them over her knuckles.
Bridget: I was nothing but a pet to her.
David's eyes glance around, his hands showing a slight twitch as he restrained his instinct to embrace her, unsure of how she'd receive the gesture.
Bridget: I tried glaring and being angry at them to see if they'd stop if I didn't react. That just encouraged them to try more to get me to react. One day, I look at myself in the mirror, looking like I do now and…. I just start laughing. I just laugh and laugh and…. I walk out there and I realize that I am the only one laughing. Something about me laughing just…. wasn't funny. After that I walked out of there, no one stopped me, and I found my way to the barrier…. you know the rest.
A few seconds of silence pass between the two, rain drips down on the hood of the truck as they stare off ahead of them.
Bridget: There isn't a day that goes by that I don't want to see Gideon and tell him what happened to me.
She gets a bit misty eyed before scoffing, smirking as she rubs her face.
Bridget: Where would I even begin? That this woman he's been married to for 17 years isn't me? That I was off being tortured by fairies in the woods? What would he say to that? What would he even think?
David looks at her, able to offer nothing but a sympathetic glance. She meets his gaze for a brief moment before looking in his eyes, nodding, and sitting up into a more comfortable position, her body shifting appearance again as she begins to reassume the disguise.
Bridget: Thank you. I've never told this to anyone before.
David: You'd do the same for me.
Bridget: True. Are you going to tell me how you became an ogre?
David: Another time, maybe.

Explosion of Power
Elriel Month - Day 15
I know I am a day late, but I wasn’t inspired yesterday. Today, at 6:30 am, I got inspired. Here is the result.
The Immortal Beloved  A Curious Love Triangle
“I am getting him back.”
All eyes were on her.
“Then you will die,” said Nesta.
Elain waved her off. “I am getting him back.”
Her beloved was gone and there was no force and no threat in this cursed world of theirs that would stop her from going to find him.
“Elain,” Rhysand’s dark power grumbled, rising and rising, a cloud of stars and mists and his inherent dominance. Whether to protect her or to stop her--she didn't know. She did not care.
Only this time, her own power grumbled in response.
She was not a High Lady. Not a High Lord. Not even Fae-born.
She was reforged and remade by the ultimate power and she suffered and howled in her pain for it. She was the first one who was thrown into the Cauldron and she emerged from that Darkness, and she was something New. She emerged with new blood pumping in her veins, with new flesh covering her bones, a new heart beating in her chest, but there was one thing that the Cauldron did not touch, could not change, and did not sense. It was that cobalt-blue string that stretched between her soul and Azriel’s, the string that was wound so tightly around them, that it was unbreakable from the moment that they laid their eyes upon each other. Her soul purred at his soul and the string corded around them, forever. Eternity was too short a time to ever uncoil their jasmine-scented cobalt string.
“Arise,” Elain whispered into the void.
And the world shook.
Seas stilled. Mountains crumbled. Hills ran like sheep and rivers danced like snakes. The clouds changed directions and the winds stopped blowing.
For the Cauldron awoke.
Its Beloved was in distress and calling out.
Its Beloved, who was the first to touch and drink in the inky life-giving waters of its bosom.
His Beloved, in whose presence the Cauldron purred.
The Cauldron, that was at her mercy and beck and call, for the Cauldron loved Elain.
“Hello, Beloved,” the Cauldron said, greeting her with a wall of jasmine-scented power. “What do you desire of me?”
You see, Elain had loved Azriel from the moment he carried her across the threshold, clutching her to his chest, like a bride. And now, she was getting him back.
