On the high recommendation of Susie Matherson, I recently booked an abdominal therapy massage with Dawn Woodring of Rivanna Abdominal Therapy. Susie shared that she found the massage not only relaxing, but hugely beneficial and I was excited to experience it. 
I’ve found that it’s the rare person who doesn’t experience some type of digestive issues, whether chronic or occasional, and this type of therapy can be really helpful. In addition, women who have reproductive complaints, from painful period to infertility, can find relief with this type of massage. Abdominal therapy can also address kidney and urinary problems, emotional issues such as anxiety and other issues such a scar tissue, hemorrhoids, low back and pelvic pain. 
The goal of this therapy is to release tension, increase circulation, reduce congestion, and ensure optimal positioning of the organs in the abdomen. I was more than game to get on board with all of that. 
My experience started with a calming salt and essential oil foot soak while Dawn and I discussed any issues that I had and she explained the massage process. I then lay on the heated table and was completely draped with only my belly exposed. One element I wasn’t expecting was the anatomy lesson Dawn gave and it was both fascinating and immensely educational. Dawn is so knowledgeable and I felt like I connected with my body in a way I haven't before. During the massage she explained where all of my organs were, in addition to explaining how everything fit and worked together. 
After the massage I felt more relaxed than I have in recent memory and as if I could move throughout my core in a way I haven’t before. Dawn provided me with valuable information about my anatomy, conditions I have struggled with throughout my life and made further recommendations on how to treat them. She also followed up with me several times to check in on how I was doing. 
Dawn is a true healer and when issues arise I will look forward to visiting her again.

Perform Massages, a Practice Recognized Health Stretching the muscles, mobilizing the joints, kneading the pain points is the art of healing the oldest. Perform Massages are to take care of oneself but also to better resist the triggering stress of pathologies. But what are the health virtues of massage?
