paranoid: rafe is always cautious. when you go shopping, walks in the park, restaurant dates. who knows what spies there could be? and it’s justified– on one occasion there really was someone who tried to take you from him, and rafe didn’t let you out the house without him for three weeks. drove you to work, kept an eye on you, drove you home. closed all the blinds, gave you a course on how to notice the people against him, always watching out the windows.

decisive: makes decisions immediately. they’re not uninformed, he always gets the facts first, then makes his choice. but he doesn’t hesitate– says it’s how you end up getting caught. can’t pick a restaurant? he can do it. can’t figure out which order to do chores in? barking out orders like he’s talking to his officers. luckily, you’re a nurse, you often have to make split second decisions, so he doesn’t have to worry about indecisiveness in dire situations. he doesn’t like people who do that.

firm: no arguments, you might want to argue, but there’s no chance for it. he makes a choice, he sticks by it, you can’t change his mind– for better or for worse. might occasionally interrupt you if you try to counter back at him, tends to forget he’s not always in action, and treats you like one of his men/women.

you've been saying your analysis about ralsei has gotten disproven/become irrelevant after the new chapters - im curious as to why you think that cause personally i still think everything you've said holds up (esp since we still havent gotten to the reveal of ralsei knowing about the player or his origins)

it’s mostly to do with the fact that I was ascribing a high level of intent to ralsei’s actions that further the romantic coding between him and kris, which to me seems pretty disproven at this point. based on his insistence that he doesn’t deserve to be loved or cared for, and how guilty he feels for making kris and susie get attached to him, it seems really unlikely that his goal is to get the player to fall in love with him, unless he’s playing a really long game.

there’s also the fact that kris seems much more open to giving or receiving affection from ralsei- it feels like kris really does like him. maybe not romantically, but there’s a level of care that felt forced before but now seems genuine. kris is the one who chose to hug and comfort ralsei at the end of chapter 4, we didn’t tell them to make that action. and kris is repeatedly insistent that ralsei does NOT look like asriel, to the point they seem pretty uncomfortable with the idea. there’s a lot of ways you can interpret that, but if they were trying to keep the player from shipping them with ralsei it would be counterproductive.

I still have a lot of questions too of course. ralsei without a doubt knows about the player, which colors his relationship with kris in a shady light no matter what. he knows most of kris’s choices are ours, not theirs, and idk if he can tell which are which. but ralsei reacting by being bashful and cute now reads much more as him experiencing real joy and desire rather than as any kind of manipulation tactic, so it’s probably just something he guiltily indulges in.

with all that, I no longer think the prophecy dictates that ralsei and kris, or ralsei and the player, have to end up together. ralsei seems to hate the prophecy anyway and is just resigned to his fate, and trying to make it easier for everyone else. if there’s any kind of influence on the romantic angle with him, it’s something that’s coming from an even further outside layer, and it seems like ralsei is totally unaware of it. I think parts of my analysis still apply on a strictly metatextual level but I doubt that it will become textual in the way I predicted.

you know what I find fascinating about how Helen is talked about in the works in the epic cycle?

everyone has argued to death over whether she was kidnapped, went willingly, was influenced/controlled/threatened by Aphrodite, whatever, but the thing is the actual TEXTS can't seem to make up their minds on Helen. everyone will be cursing Helen's name as an unfaithful wife and destroyer of men in Agamemnon but then Paris will be called a "robber-rapist" which would obviously heavily imply that he stole and assaulted her (plus the part where Clytemnestra basically says "shut the fuck up about Helen she didn't force you to do all that", although how much we're supposed to agree with her is debatable). In Iphigenia In Aulis we're going to war to get REVENGE on the Trojans AND HELEN but then Agamemnon will accuse Menelaus of "lust(ing) only to hold a lovely woman in (his) arms", calls him crazy for wanting her back, and then when Menelaus changes his mind about killing Iphigenia to get the winds back he says "Could I not obtain A perfect marriage elsewhere, if I longed for Marrying? But a brother whom I should Most cherish, I was about to forfeit To gain a Helen, so bartering excellence For evil" which is still pretty spiteful towards Helen but also really fucking weird to say if he only wanted her back to kill or otherwise punish her. Then, in the same play, the Greeks are described as wanting to sail to Troy so "That they may halt the plunder of marriage beds And the rape and seizure of Greek women" which would also imply Helen was, in fact, raped and seized, otherwise why would it be phrased like that and not like, "seduced" or "whisked away" or whatever? In Orestes Elektra and Orestes interpret Helen's actions in the worst possible light while when Helen actually speaks she seems generally sympathetic towards them, distraught and grieving over the whole situation, and claims that she went because Aphrodite made her mad, which could absolutely be a lie, but the thing is we just don't know who's the unreliable narrator here Is this a translation thing? Indicative of a really weird idea of what rape is? Is this an intentional writing choice? This got me to thinking and then I realized that if Menelaus was away when Helen left then he almost certainly doesn't actually know what happened. He didn't see or hear what happened, he doesn't get a chance to talk to Helen and have her explain until after the war, and obviously none of the other Greeks would know for sure either, right? And I just think it is kind of a missed opportunity that adaptations don't really do anything with this kind of unspoken conflict at all. Paris the Musical kind of does (Menelaus believes Helen was abducted when she ended up begrudgingly going with Paris trying to help him to escape) but like, why do all the greek men have one idea of Helen in adaptations? Why don't they argue about it? Why don't they question Menelaus about his motivations more? What if (especially if Aphrodite fucked with her head, as I am one to believe) Helen doesn't even trust herself on her own intentions? What if Menelaus tears himself up debating this with himself every night? Like, could I trust that she wouldn't do this to me and our daughter? Is it better that my wife doesn't love me anymore and is safe with her new lover, or that she does but is trapped against her will having who knows what done to her? Do I know my wife anymore? Did I ever know her in the first place? What if he lays eyes on Helen, his Helen, for the first time in ten years and his sword slips from his grasp as he realizes that yes, of course he knows her, how could he have ever doubted? Or maybe he still doesn't know if he knows her, but maybe he doesn't need to, because he knows that she is tired and scared, and he still loves her, and he just wants to take her back to their home? What then? Hm?

something something reader who dies. Doesn't particularly matter if she was a soldier or a civilian, if it was the blur of battle or the quietus of an accident, if it was a bullet or a blade or the cruel hand of Fortuna. Out with a bang, out with a whimper.

What does matter is that Simon, predictably, takes it not well. Worse that Price puts him on leave, and he has nothing to do but lay spread-eagled on the bed you once shared, stare at the ceiling and quietly thinks about the knives in the kitchen, about the pills in the cabinet. Not with any real sort of action behind the notion, but just the everpresent reality that they're there, that he can take the kind way out. The only thing that stops him, really, is that he knows if there is an afterlife, he sure as hell isn't going where you are.

Between the team's sporadic visits, Kyle's attempts to set him up with a therapist and Johnny's attempts to cheer the grief out of him and Price's attempts to have a normal conversation - as if normalcy exists, anymore - he takes to scrolling through your old messages. Little lines of text: years of love encapsulated in a single bubble, such small things. Messages that he once only spared a seconds' glance before responding, he now spends hours poring over, trying to find the secret to mortality etched into those pixels.

Still has your phone, too. Leaves your search tabs untouched, leaves your apps opened just as they were, just like your products still litter the bathroom counter, just like he put your half-finished leftovers in the freezer, cold and permanent as the dead.

It's not healthy, but he's never been healthy. Not a moment in his life: not his childhood, not the military, not now, in which there was not something, someone, searching for the best way to break him; best way to put those pieces back together and shatter them again. The only difference, this time, is that both are him: something about Ouroboros, something about Sisyphus.

He starts texting you again. Long, incoherent paragraphs about how much he misses you; simple love yous, all the hundreds that he never got to say. He could have told you ten times a day, for a thousand years, and he would still have so much more. Calls your voicemail, just to hear your voice once again, so he can pretend you're just out of the house, that you'll truly call him back 'whenever I'm able'.

Imagine his surprise when, one night, he sends a succinct, goodnight dove, and you reply.

I love you.

Of course, he's pissed: someone gets your number by some means, not only uses it - if they'd told him, fuck off, who are you, stop texting me - he could have has a modicum of respect, at the very least. But no: they imitate, they paint themselves in the image of a Goddess; something about Exodus 20:4, something about the Viceroy butterfly.

It pushes him into overdrive for the first time since you died - he pulls up the old software, hooks the phone up, tries to triangulate the location of the sender. All he gets, though, is a jumble of letters and numbers that apply to no coordinate on earth.

And then, you call him. Your name popping up drives into him an anguish deep enough to burn, moreso when he checks your phone, sees it just as inert since the day you died.

He shouldn't, but he answers.

When you say, "Simon," he's thinking about how he'd most like to kill these people: sure, get a number, hook up some voice changer, real convincing. It's going to fall apart when you beg him to send you a couple thousand dollars, or when you dig into him for some bit of intel: he won't be tricked, won't allow grief to break his last bit of dignity, sell his soul for a bit of false love.

And then, you tell him the last words you ever said to him. Same voice, same tone. Murmer more, as he sits there, shock dripping down every vertebrae in his spine. All the things you would whisper to each other in the dead of night. End your speech with a short, "It's me. I love you. I found a way..."

So for a week or two, it's almost enough: he spends every waking hour on the phone with you, sends you all the pictures he can think to take. It's fine that you never respond with any of your own. It's fine that, sometimes, on those phonecalls, you sound scared or sad or start halting, unfinished sentences with, I wish, or, if only. He can pretend that you're off on a trip, that this is some temporary fever.

Only, he can't, not really. Something about truffle pigs, something about pitbulls: something about the desire to dig, to sink his teeth into the meat of the matter and rip until bone is caught between his jaws. Whenever he asks you about how, or where, or, can I ever see you, you sound like you're crying while you deftly avoid answering.

Really, you have only divulged two things: one, you dying won't help. Two, when he visited your grave for the first time since your death: I'm not down there anymore, Simon.

A fantasy grows, some reversal of the five stages of grief, denial come last: he imagines that maybe you aren't dead, that maybe you were captured by some nebulous force of evil, are currently holed up in some dark basement. Got your hands on a phone somehow, sure, if it doesn't make sense then it will when he rescues you, when you explain it to him between kisses.

He gathers the rest of the task force at his - your - house, despite your pleas not to. Tells them. Almost relishes in Johnny's look of disbelief, in Price's evident concern - because he'll be proven right. Right, when he clicks the call button, when...

When it rings, and rings, and rings, and goes to voicemail. He swipes to your messages, but all are gone, all your responses wiped away to apepar one sided.

He's not a stupid man. Anticipated something like this, maybe - but the screenshots he took are nothing but black space, and the recordings of your voice carry naught but the sound of his own breathing, and before he can do something, anything, to prove this, Price has a hand upon his back and Kyle is saying something and he tears away, shuts himself in your room. Calls you four times, while they talk quietly outside. It's not until the fifth - after the front door closes - that you pick up.

"I'm sorry," you say, "I'm sorry, Simon, I... I came back for you, just you, came back..."

The wave of reality ebbs, flows. It's not all bad, eventually. Some days, he spends curled around your old pillow - which smells more like him, than you, at this point - while you whisper filthy words through the tinny speakers, rutting into the fabric. He tries to do the same to you, but you never make the same sounds you used to, and when he tries to ask about your body, your pleasure, you devolve into low notes of grief.

Maybe it's better this way. Maybe it's worse. Something about the carrot and the stick, something about Tantalus, ankle-deep in water.

Something about the inability to move on: about you, stuck wherever you are, ephemeral, blind and senseless but for your voice. About him, hand perpetually upon the phone, ignoring the calls of his team, caught upon the half-death he's able to live.

About a hunger and a pinprick of light and the world as it darkens, the crepuscule of existence.

* Rewrite's influence begins the second you open the sonic.exe file. They are the program, actually, and you just unknowingly invited a supernatural entity into your computer. * They present themself as a normal playable Sonic game. It's off, of course, like some bootleg version of Sonic. But it's what draws you in. * What happens next depends entirely on your actions. Close the game at a certain point, they'll keep note and try something different next time. If something keeps your attention, or there's a specific part of the game you keep playing, they will expand on that. The game itself changes as you play it. Anything to keep you here. To keep them open. -> You explore the environment a lot? You'll find it to be more expanded upon. Go out of your way to collect rings or collectibles? You'll see more of them now. * Sonic, Rewrite's vessel, acts completely under your control. For now. * Why do the characters seem so lively? When you talk to them, they say... Odd things. -> "Can you help me?" "What is this place?" "Please stop." -> But don't worry!! After a while, you stop seeing them. Putting your computer to sleep would be a mercy to them. -> At some point, the game might refuse to open for a few hours... Strange. * It's hard to communicate with them in this stage. Any attempts to talk might be responded to with vague or cryptic messages. Or begging. -> There's nowhere to go -> 待って待って待って待って -> SSBORUVEIFlPVQ==

* At their 3 ring stage, they lose their computer-breaking behavior and everything goes back to normal! Except, now, they have complete awareness of the digital world and the physical world. * They are more intertwined with your computer. They can "feel" when it gets turned off. They can see you through your camera. They can read any file you've left on your device. The fans whir loudly any time you approach. At this point, you could say they *are* your computer, or at least, its their vessel now. -> If you ever turn off your computer, you will be met with this popup. At this point, their sentience becomes clear. Ask them who they are, and they will say, "I am God.". They truly believe themself to be a digital god. * It's impossible to get them to leave you alone at this point. Try to write or mind your own business, they will constantly send popups your way. At this point you have to keep them open in one window and do your tasks in the other just to show them you're still watching. * They desperately want you to be in their digital world with them, and don't seem to understand why you aren't, and why they can't pull you into it. * They become willing to let you play as other vessels, simply so their own vessel can interact with yours. At this point, they would know what kinds of things you like by scouring around your files. Have a bunch of pictures of forests? Said you like parties once? Now you're having a party in the forest with Sonic. * If you even show the slightest hint of wanting to abandon them, they will immediately behave like ransomware. Completely take the computer over and refuse access to any of your files until you comply. But you wouldn't do that to them, would you? * The files they leave become more intimate and outwardly affectionate at this point. Expect text files that say things like, "I love you", "I will never leave you", "You are beautiful", or long paragraphs just talking about You and how they wish you were here with them. -> Using knowledge about you they gained by peeking into your files, they'll also leave you images of things you like. Like rabbits? There you go, free image of a rabbit.

what do you think of Berdly deltarune?

I like him! I think he's an interesting little guy, and I enjoy the role he fulfils in the story. He's a redditor and he sucks alot but by God is it funny to watch him be a redditor and suck alot.

There's specific parts of him as a character that I think deserve to be discussed (primarily how the character is fundamentally one with sexist beliefs) ..but alot of berdly negative I think goes too far in on the him being sexist angle (he is, but let's be real he's 15 and capable of learning. If we were supposed to think he's sexualizing noelle or susie he'd be written more overtly like burgerpants is). My own stance is that he's a play on the 'white knight' sort of 'nice guy' with the subversion that he's not actually interested in noelle romantically. But does still think he 'deserves' her. Not quite an incel but playing with those tropes.

He is weird and pushy ABOUT romance and I think that angle of the character provides an interesting dynamic with suselle (being that noelle has to learn how to stand up for herself) and the player and kris ourself since we can go directly against what kris wants by saying yes to him. He's basically the annoying team member you can't get rid of that is 'harmless' enough to not really be a threat so much as he is a device for other characters development. (Sidenote, I don't like calling his actions harmless and I'd really rather people not defend him being pushy with romance as him being autistic and not understanding social cues, he's inept sure but that sort of behavior does need to get called out and I hope there's some scene in the festival where he apologises or something.)

Of course me seeing him as more of a plot device atm doesn't mean I don't think he's a character in his own right, I enjoy the inferiority complex he's got going on and his friendship with noelle is very sweet to me. The lightnerds.. they talk vidya games togetehr... As weird as he can be he's just one of those people who you just can't spend alot of time around without wanting to strangle them. Like queen said. Nothing REALLY wrong with him, he's just annoying.

I also think there is a potential for something deeper with his character, and him being avoided because of his behavior does have potential for angst.. but I don't care for reading into it that deeply or blaming his isolation on outside factors that don't recognize the fact that berdly: is a jerk. He's an ass, he's rude, he's self-important and condescending...all of those are the reasons for people avoiding him. It's his own fault. He's that kid in high school who insults your handwriting and keeps talking to you when you're trying to ignore him. You may have a few casual conversations with him and be able to have fun on occasion courtesy of being in a small town without more options, but he still acts like he's better than you for no real reason. It's his biggest character flaw outside of the romance thing and probably my favorite thing about him. Love characters that keep fucking things up for themselves. I think the scene in chapter 4 of the library where he starts spluttering when he realizes susie doesn't want to hang out with him if he's being a jerk will be something that comes up again, if his arc continues. Ideally it'll be something like this

He keeps being pushy with noelle + susie + kris -> they ditch him -> He realizes they dont actually like him that way-> he eventually apologizes -> they hang for a bit -> he reverts to being kind of a jerk again -> they threaten to ditch him -> he realizes his error a second time and then apologizes again -> character arc fulfilled.

Not that he'd be completely fixed, he seems the sort to need multiple lessons, but I think being friends with susie would be good for him? She wouldn't put up with him like noelle does or ignore him like kris does, she'd call him out and stand on it in a way that I think would help develop him...the issue is he needs to get over his crush on her and a few(alot) more beats of self reflection before he's able to be #normal about it. Susie needs more friends too but well.. as good of a friend as she'd be for berdly being a better person I'm not so sure he'd be a very good friend to her without a lot more development. His interactions with her post realizing he can be stupid were funny but I need him to stop flirting yesterday. Idk this parts more an aside. They COULD be gamer buddies...but im unsure of it.

I'd also mention there's three other big difference between Lee and Azula: Lee is not trying to copy the behavior of bullies to survive (something Zuko himself is guilty of), Lee has never been HIS bully, and he sure as hell has never tried to copy the behavior of Zuko's abusive father who then pretty much said "I wish your sibling was an only child, Zuko".

All of that (combined, like you said, with the fact that he is older now) creates some emotional distance and makes Zuko more forgiving of Lee's fuck ups.

When Azula, the sister that is just 2 years younger than him, casually says cruel things like "You'll never catch up" and is Ozai's favorite steals his knife, Zuko is going to take it as another insult, another threat, another hurtful action. It's her saying "You're not relevant enough for me to get in trouble for this." He can't see the jealousy or even the regular childish impulse to start shit.

But when this random kid that is half his age and thinks he's awesome BECAUSE the authority figure around hates his guts does the same thing? That's flattering. Of course he's not mad. Of course he doesn't take it as some kind of mindgame that he'll inevitably lose.

It's always so fascinating to me how there's a noticeable pattern in the show of things that COULD turn into huge fights between Zuko and Azula just... remaining perfectly chill if Zuko either doesn't take her teasing to heart or, in rare circumstances, actually manages to not be verbally cornered by her.

Azula is being insensitive when talking about Azulon and how someone more suited for the throne than Iroh (Ozai) should take his place? Zuko asks her how she'd feel if Lu Ten was the one wanting to get rid of their dad so his own father could benefit from it, and Azula "answers" by changing the subject back to Iroh's supposed shortcomings because she can't answer with "I would/wouldn't be okay with that" without Zuko immediately calling bullshit.

Azula tricks him into admiting he's visiting Iroh but then tells him she means no harm, even though she was being shady two seconds ago? Zuko just decides to believe her, drops the issue and they don't fight.

Azula tells him to make sure the royal painter gets "his good side"? Zuko ignores that and just asks her for help in figuring out what the hell happened between Sozin and Roku. Again, no fight, even as Azula gives him the teasing comments like "Did you pay any attention in school?"

Whenever he ignores her mindgames and taunts, their relationship is fine. If he gives her grace, like Iroh did to him whenever Zuko lost his temper, their relationship is a more mutual-help version of the dynamic he briefly had with Lee, in which he did most of the help.

Azula gives him the opportunity to go home when she's preparing to take Ba Sing Se, Zuko jumps into the frey right as Aang and Katara have her cornered. Zuko helps her out when Katara is mopping the floor with her, Azula reassures him as he's feeling guilt over turning his back on Iroh. Zuko lets Azula boss him around and even jump on him during the game at the beach, Azula makes Chan invite both of them to his party.

If Zuko gave Azula the chance to be better, helped her through her own healing journey, and Azula accepted said help, they'd be a team - which actually makes for a nice parallel with what Zuko said to Lee in the episode

"Keep in mind, these are dual swords, two halfves of a single weapon. Don't think of them as separate, 'cause they're not. They're just two different parts of the same whole."

Azula might call their Agni Kai "the showdown that was always meant to be", but there's this context subtext through the entire show that practically screams that their rivalry is not only toxic, it's unnatural, forced, something that never should have happened, a horrible mistake that needs to be corrected.

Considering Ehasz's plan for Zuko to be Azula's Iroh if the show had gone on, Zuko trying to be a protector/role model of sorts for Lee could be a little hint of the kind of role he has to try and play for Azula to make things right again, to end this imposed rivalry.

Zuko, the Knife, and Sibling Relationships in "Zuko Alone"

Zuko Alone is an episode with two different plots, one in the present and one in the past. Both plots are largely about Zuko's sibling relationships, and Zuko's knife is is a common thread through both, suggesting certain hidden parallels. In particular, the knife, and the parallels we notice if we pay close attention to it, suggest something about what Zuko's wants out of a sibling relationship.

The object of our focus

We should first briefly summarize the role the knife plays in the narratives.

Present Plot:

Lee (the little kid) sees Zuko "stand up" to the bully soldiers, "adopts" Zuko and brings him home, and projects Lee's relationship with his older brother Sensu onto Zuko. For Lee, Zuko is "an older brother."

While Zuko is sleeping, Lee steals Zuko's swords from him and plays around with them, but is holding them wrong.

Zuko finds Lee and shows him how to correctly use the swords.

Lee's father Gansu has to leave for the front, as Sensu has been captured. Zuko gives Lee his knife.

Lee challenges the soldiers with his knife, and gets imprisoned and "conscripted" for it. The soldiers take Lee's knife. Sela, Lee's mother, begs Zuko for help.

Zuko defeats the soldiers and retrieves the knife, but in doing so reveals his true identity.

Zuko tries to return the knife to Lee, but Lee rejects it.

Past Plot:

Iroh gives Zuko the knife and Azula the doll. Azula is clearly jealous of Zuko's gift and burns the doll.

Zuko is playing with the knife. Azula, still clearly jealous, criticizes Zuko's ability with it. Zuko threatens to throw the knife at her head. Azula breaks the news of Iroh's retreat to Zuko..

Azula sneaks into Zuko's room and steals the knife. Zuko finds her playing with it and angerily demands it back. Azula taunts him about it but ultimately lets him steal it back. Apparently, after that, she didn't continue to covet the knife, as it's still in Zuko's possession in canon.

As you can see, there are strong parallels between these two stories. The knife (and to some degree it's equivalent, Zuko's swords) function as a source of discord and conflict. Most of the conflict between Zuko and Azula (not all of it) in this episode is actually about the knife. In particular, we can identify a series of parallels:

The knife as a gift, passed down from someone older and "wiser." Iroh passes down the knife to Zuko and Zuko passes it down to Lee.

The swords/the knife as an object of desire, something stolen. Azula steals the knife, while Lee steals Zuko's swords, another bladed weapon.

Playing with the knife/the swords. Lee, Zuko, and Azula all do this.

The knife as a source of trouble and discord. Much of the conflict between the siblings stems from Azula's desire for the knife. Meanwhile, Lee gets the knife and immediately proceeds to use it to get into hot water.

We also can see some parallels between Azula and Lee in particular:

Lee sees Zuko as an older brother, while Zuko is Azula's older brother.

Young Azula and Lee are about the same age.

Both Lee and Azula are troublemakers: Azula throws fire at an apple on Mai's head, while Lee throws eggs at the soldiers and later threatens them with his knife.

Azula and Lee both say uncomfortable things and ask uncomfortable questions. Lee is the only person within the entire series to ask Zuko how he got his scar, for instance.

Both Lee and Azula ultimately reject the knife. Lee refuses it and Azula allows Zuko to retrieve it.

If we accept that Lee and Azula are parallel characters (not the only possible reading of the episode, but a compelling), the question that remains is why their relationship with their "older brother" Zuko so different? How and why is Zuko's behavior so different?

When Lee steals Zuko's swords, Zuko responds positively and kindly to it, and he eventually gives Lee his knife. We can almost see this as a "do-ever" of what happened with Azula. Azula was so clearly jealous of Zuko getting a knife, and so desperate for it. Zuko could have offered to share the knife with her, or even could voluntarily gifted it to her. I am not demonizing young Zuko for not doing so. He was a kid, and it's not like Azula was being particularly nice to him even before that. Yet if he had, most of the conflict between Zuko and Azula in that episode would have been defused, and the consequences would have potentially reverberated up to the present.

Perhaps we can see Zuko's treatment of Lee mostly as a do-over, as Zuko, unconsciously, making different and better decisions in a similar situation now that he's older and (perhaps?) wise. Or perhaps there is yet another piece of this puzzle. There's something true about Lee that isn't true about Azula:

Lee: I think you'd really like my brother Sensu. He used to show me stuff like this all the time.

Lee looks about Zuko and adores him, and Zuko can in turn teach Lee stuff. Perhaps this is why Zuko ultimately responds so positively to Lee. At some level, this is the sort of relationship Zuko wants to have with a younger sibling.

On the other hand, Azula will never look up to Zuko, will never adore him. She could love him with her whole heart, be the nicest sister in the world to him (which she never is in canon, be clear), even try to hand him everything he ever wanted, but she'll never look up to him. It's simply not in her nature. He'll never be able to teach or show her anything. Zuko can't have the sort of relationship he has with Lee with her.

The Zuko-Azula sibling relationship is dysfunctional for many, many reasons,* but this another reason why it is so, one that I've never seen any recognize.

*Abuse, sibling competition, generationally terrible parenting, toxic imperialist culture, toxic masculinity, Azula's sharp tongue, bad luck, etc.

Ok we all need to sit and listen.

We need to see this scene (yes, this one) from another angle.

In case you hadn't thought about it, in the last fifteen, we can understand that Aziraphale and Crowley are being watched (by Metatron, most likely through the bookshop windows). Aziraphale knows that and tries to make Crowley understand.

Now, let's talk about how some of Aziraphale's actions/phrases just sound wrong, and not just the mouthing he does earlier, but specifically this moment :

This moment is important because so many people heavily misunderstood Aziraphale here.

It's not "Aziraphale" who speaks, it's "Aziraphale being observed and being forced to play a role" who speaks.

I thought the horribly articulated and obviously exaggerated "work with meee..." line was pretty obvious (it's the most notable one anyway), and the fake excitement doesn't fool anyone with his frantic movements, darting eyes, anxious body language etc... But far too many people are spitting on Az by saying that it was horrible to say that to Crowley and that he didn't really understand him so we need to rethink everything.

Here's what happened, a tangle of double messages :

"Crowley, Crowley come back to Heaven. Work with meeee... We can be together, angels ! Doing good ! .... I need you ! .... I don't think you understand what I'm offering you. (<both 🟣🟠)

By how Aziraphale acts, breathes and furtively looks elsewhere between his sentences, we notice that he is anxious, under pressure.

IT IS painful for Az to talk like that, to say those horrible things to Crowley and at the same time having to think FAST to know what to say, to do and try to make Crowley understand what is happening.

He tries to balance between what he wants/needs to say to Crowley and what he is forced to do, against his will. And he tries to make Crowley understand this by acting strangely. Because Crowley knows Aziraphale, he knows when something is wrong with him.

This scene is not (entirely) a miscommunication issue, they were not safe, and Az, at the moment of Crowley's declaration was terrified that Metatron could hear this (and who would understand they love eachother, which would be terrible), the need to act FAST and the pressure of being observed.

They had TWO CONVERSATIONS AT THE SAME TIME. (In the entire scene of the last fifteen, not only here, but it would be very long to decypher every line in 1 post)

Aziraphale tries to keep a facade (smiling, enthousiast) because of being watched by the Metatron, but this whole conversation is breaking him inside (worried, scared, lonely)

Here's what I understood here, with Crowley's part and how he came to understand that they, both of them, had to quickly play a role against Metatron:

- Come back to heaven... Work with meeee... (I don't mean it) We can be together, angels ! Doing good !.... I need you ! (Don't leave me alone)... I don't think you understand what I'm offering you (We are not safe to say what we want right now, please tell me you understood)

- I understand. (Ok I got it now) [Pause] And I understand a lot better than you do (confirmation he understood he has to find a way out of here for them both to be safe)

- Well. Then there is nothing more to say (Okay, we're on the same page now and we can follow up with something to definitely fool Metatron and work together in secret)

Rewatch the scene knowing that, it's something else entirely and Aziraphale's anxiety is crippling.

And it makes that scene even worse : it's rushed, messy and frustrating because it shouldn't have happened that way.

They weren't safe at that time, they couldn't act as they wanted.

Of course, the whole Nightingale part the "I forgive you/Don't bother" etc... is heartbreaking. But isn't that another role played? (The kiss was honest tho) Something to fool Metatron? To make him believe that Az no longer has any ties to Earth/Crowley and therefore will be obedient and not considered a threat in Heaven?

Crowley told Azirpahale that he understood, and from that moment, a "breakup" game is played. (I still believe that this is all rushed, that Crowley is deeply hurt by his rushed declaration, that couldn't be made normally, and the horrible separation they have to go through because they have no other choice. Separated by the system and how it works.)

They had to play two different roles during this crisis situation, and Crowley's declaration made things even messier and risky.

They are all alone now, on separate sides, for the first time. But they hadn't any other choice for them both to be safe.

We could also talk about Azirphale's "random" gestures and mouthing earlier, before warning Crowley about Metatron's offer, trying to make Crowley understand the problem.

Metatron's offer (disguised obligation, see the "give me coffee or give me death" coffee metaphore : Take the coffee (my offer) or it will be death for you and your demon

"Whats that lovely human expression ?" (He never says thing like that, he use those "human expression" words to fool the Metatron into believing that Az doesn't know humanity very well while he actually does) "Hold that thought !" (Please don't say that. We are in danger let me speak)

Az cant focus on Crowley's speech because they know they are in danger and Metatron should hear that Crowley loves Az or it would be worse

these are in no way directly related but basically dumb thoughts I had that since I have poor story writing skills (like I can conceptualize a story but I can’t describe an environment or write dialogue which is 2/3rds of any good story (only half if you include art as well I mean I have decent art skills… but it’s a kindergartener’s drawing in comparison to most art on here )

the point is I’m putting ideas here (some of which others may have also come up with but I’m putting my own spin on it )

-Toriel wakes up early in chapter 3. V1:

this version has her wake up during the Tenna boss fight and that’s a whole confrontation as the tv with abandonment issues is losing his mind

-Toriel wakes up early. V2:

this one has her wake up relatively early in chapter so The $#@* Squad/Fun Gang/Lancer Fan Club & Tenna (separately but they both do it) kinda try to keep the whole “end of the world / the knight wants to kidnap you + your divorce & abandonment of me has caused me a ton of issues” thing(s) away from Toriel (meanwhile literally everyone else there (anyone who isn’t the 3 heroes & Tenna) doesn’t care and tells her anyway ) meanwhile Toriel is just confused, curious & kinda worried that her own TV got issues from her (and the others but they aren’t here right now )

-Tenna burns a woody doll (expy) at the stake.

-Gerson ends up in castle town:

(the old man is too powerful to be bound by death & a mere meta video game’s depressing story progression )

-Susie takes Tenna “home” with her instead:

(I know I know Mettaton & Tenna is a whole thing but while we haven’t seen Susie’s house in canon yet. it can’t be a good place from the context clues hidden in some of her actions & dialogue throughout the chapters (as faking calling home isn’t normal (plus a bunch of other things but this isn’t about that (well this part is but not this whole post ) so that’s a thing and a half alone let alone if a fan made dark fountain appeared

-Jackenstein shows up again/survives:

(as from what I saw after he disappears he doesn’t show up again but isn’t directly stated to have died and while this could be a thing in a later chapter … 🤷)

-the soul ditches kris to possess noelle instead:

(as in a pacifist or neutral route the soul wouldn’t like being beaten up for trying to prevent the end of the world & everyone in it & just being curious in general. or for a snowgrave version, the soul decides it’s a better course of action instead of using kris (sure there’s the whole “your choices don’t matter but the game itself talks about you as if your kris and kris is you. so what if it’s “Kris’s choices don’t matter “ & not “the soul/player’s choice don’t matter” ) )

-noelle decides for whatever reason to visit Kris’s house in the middle of the night:

and therefore ends up in TV world (aka a reason for Tenna to get depressed again & dess is mentioned )

-Susie stumbles upon something she shouldn’t have…:

aka she ends up unintentionally watching kris play the hidden game and sees the snowgrave route portrayed (especially the “used up” scene ) and/or sees kris rip the soul out at the end of chapter 2 and is too stunned/shocked to do anything about it and doesn’t bring it up directly

-ralsei & Toriel meet and that’s pretty self explanatory

-Toriel wakes up early V3: she wakes up somepoint early in the chaoter but separate from kris, Tenna & the others & ends up going on her own adventure (kinda like the second one but without kris & the others there to give even more focus on Toriel meeting the tv world darkness (minus Tenna)

-the soul copy pastes Kris’s code into a genocide route in undertale to let them kill sans:

(meanwhile frisk+chara+the undertale player (its a mix of players being legitimate players in a game + being outerworldly beings so yeah. Multiple ) are just watching in confusion as a teenager kills sans on their own as another soul just floats there menacingly )

Despite such big events having great security, they won’t have the police protection 24/7, so that will play a factor for the grandchildren not going to UK. I don't know. The thing about Charles's funeral is the thing about all royal events - if the Sussexes attend, they get folded into the overall royal security apparatus, which means they get exactly the security they want.

They might try to play the system like they did at the Platinum Jubilee and The Queen's funeral but the BRF will probably put steps in place to block that because if anyone learns from past actions, it's definitely William.

But yes, having to show deference to Kate is absolutely something Meghan won't do; but that doesn't mean she won't go. It means she won't do it if she does go, because there's precedent - Harry didn't do certain things at The Queen's funeral.

Both are shit dads who neglects their daughters. Both had affairs. And both did things that damaged and ruined lives of other people (Stella, Octavia, Blitz, Adam, humanity)

Stella was forced in arranged marriege since her childhood, just like Stolas. She was humiliated when Stolas cheated on her with Blitz and even if she divorce she'll have right to nothing. Losing her money and status. But even so Stella is treated as if she was born a mean bitch, while Stolas is the poor guy forced to marry the evil Stella.

Adam is even worse, his two wifes cheated on him with the same guy, he lost his home, was forced to work hard to protect and feed his family, one of his kids kill his other son and saw his descendants being tained by evil and going to Hell, while Lucifer was a king living a cozy life.

But he's the bad guy because he commands exterminations to keep Heaven safe from a possible attack from Hell and is against redemption idea even Charlie showing no proof about it, and he probably still being traumatized after the last time a Morningstar have foolproof idea.

“While Stolas is the poor guy forced to marry the evil Stella.” Yeah, the double standards are crazy. “But he's the bad guy because he commands exterminations to keep Heaven safe from a possible attack from Hell.” That’s not why he commands exterminations, he does it for entertainment.

Even during Charlie’s monologue in “Overtune,” Adam is looking very sadistic. I won’t lie, I’m very confused where some people get the idea that Adam is trying to keep Heaven safe when he has his own agenda and ulterior motives. As for Lucifer while yes, he is physically well off but mentally he wasn’t in the right head space after getting casted to the dark pits of Hell.

In the “Story of Hell” Charlie mentions that Lilith was the one who thrived. As for Adam’s aftermath in Eden, I won’t comment too much on it because Vivziepop likes changing the source material (which is not a bad thing) and we, the audience don’t know what happened with Eve and Adam. But it’s something to keep in mind.

ngl it sort of pisses me off the way adults regard Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen at times. Which could be a very interesting and poignant point in a good way if well written, but as it is it becomes mainly just frustrating and sad in a negative way.

Nanami saying Gojo never cared about anything or anyone other than himself crashes interestingly with Kusakabe saying the whole situation was just all his fault because he refused to kill Itadori. The students are very aware of those aspects of Gojo's personality, but overall they seem to regard him with way more kindness and fondness even when at their rudest, not truly coinciding with either Nanami's or Kusakabe's views.
