my very first stacked Pokémon card!!! i really like murkrow, and this card seemed like a good one to stack since it has so much depth in it, and I'm very glad i went with it!!! it's definitely worth the effort, and it was incredibly fun! i actually got the very top card from my pen pal last month, thank you so much for it!!! the others don't have that pumpkin, so it added something very special to it!!

and of course, now i want to make so many more

You knew this game was going to be tough, as the Aces were third in the league. But the Mystics were up by 5, making the score 23-28. It was halfway through the second quarter, and Emily had just got the rebound, as she made her way back up the court to you and the rest of the team.

She picked up speed, faking out her opponent, backing up and giving herself enough space to pass the ball to you. You receive the ball, and push past the other team's defense.

You back up, and pretend to shoot the ball, instead of shooting, you hesitate, pump faking the other team. You move to the right and shoot the ball, which makes a swish as it goes in for a 3 pointer. When you’re sure it goes in, you pivot on your leg.

Normally you’d run back to the other hoop, ready to defend. But, when you feel your leg pop, you cry out and fall to the ground, holding your right knee. It doesn’t take a genius to know what happened.

It’s a non-contact injury, the scariest type. If anyone was a sports fan, they knew exactly what happened.

Gasps echoed throughout the stadium as you lay on the ground, tears streaming down your face, crying in pain. The whistle blew, and Emily was by your side in seconds. Everyone was concerned, not only because you were in pain, but because you were one of the toughest players out there.

One time, you played an entire game with a dislocated shoulder, and nobody knew until you informed them that you’d been in pain. Obviously, they were pissed that you didn’t tell anyone, but they were also surprised that you were even able to move your arm. You’d won the game with a buzzer beater, and they only found out when Emily hugged you and you winced.

So the fact that you were actually crying and not getting up had the stadium silent.

“Baby, what hurts?” Emily is kneeled next to you, and her hands hover over your waist, not wanting to hurt you further. You try to speak, but your cries overpowers you so you manage to point to your knee. You kept moving your body around, trying to find a position that didn’t hurt.

“Fuck!” you exclaim as you accidentally clink your knees together. You bang your fists on the floor in frustration. You had a high pain tolerance, so being in such an uncomfortable position where pain was everywhere upset you. Emily furrows her eyebrows as she examines your body. She looks back to the bench, waving to signal for help.

The athletic trainer, the head coach, and the assistant coach made their way over to you. They started bombarding you with questions, ones that you answered truthfully.

When the attempt to move your leg, to straighten your knee, you squirm and cry out, grabbing onto Emily’s bicep. She brings her hand up and runs it through your hair. “Shhh, I know honey, I know. You’re okay.”

Your teammates surround you with towels and to attempt to spare you the invasion of privacy. The other team pays their respects by kneeling, looking on from their bench. Opponents or not, you are all a community, a sisterhood.

You squeeze her arm harder as they put your knee back in its original position. “Fuck.” you sigh. “We gotta get her off the floor. Can you sit up?” Eric, your coach, questions.

You nod, and Emily helps you sit up. You wince as you feel your knee throb. More tears fall from your eyes as you look at your girlfriend. Emily smiles sadly at you, and wipes the stray drops on your cheeks. “C’mon.”

She stands up and lifts you up effortlessly, hands around your waist. The stadium erupts in applause as you stand up. “Can you put any weight on it?” the athletic trainer asks, noting how you were standing on one leg.

You take a deep breath before attempting to put a miniscule amount of weight on your knee. You throw your head back, and gasp as pain shoots up your leg to your thigh, spreading to your hips.

You shake your head and bite your lip, as you attempt to suppress the sobs. Emily nods before putting your arm over her shoulder, as the trainer does the same. They hoist you up, their arms going under your thighs as they walk you to the bench.

Your coach leaves and brings the team to the huddle, as Emily stays with you.

“Go, Em, they still need you to play.” you groan out. No matter how much pain you were in, you knew how important this game was to the team. Emily shook her head.

“Absolutely fucking not.” she said, voice stern but laced with love.

“Go, baby, I’ll be fine.”

“No-”

“Baby.” You speak softly. “I’ll be fine. Go.” Emily looked at you, glanced at the huddle, before her eyes settled on you again. “Okay.” she breathed out, uncertainty prominent. She brings her hands up to your jaw, cupping it as she pulls you into a passionate kiss.

You sigh into the kiss, momentarily forgetting about the pain in your knee. But, you're brought back to reality when she pulls away, glancing at you before she runs to the huddle.

You immediately regret having her there with you, tears pricking your eyes as you turn to the trainer. She’s got a wheelchair and helps you climb into the chair.

Emily may be at the huddle, but her eyes are on you as you're wheeled to the locker room. After they break away, your coach goes up to her.

“You with us?” he asked, putting his hand on her shoulder. She doesn’t tear her eyes away from the back of your head, anxiously watching the lover of her life being wheeled away from her.

“Yeah, yeah.” she said unconvincingly. She finally turned to look at him, tears in her eyes. He shook his head as he pulled her into a hug. As tough as your girlfriend is, she’s only human.

Eric pulled away. “Go be with her. We’re gonna be okay.” Emily’s eyes lit up at his words.

“Y-you sure?”

“Yes. Go.” he said smiling at her. She smiles back at him, pulling him into an embrace of gratitude. “Thank you, thank you so fuck-”

“Go!” he laughs, and she turns and runs towards the locker room. “Be back by the second half!” he yells after her, shaking his head before locking back in.

Meanwhile, in the back, Emily slowly opened the door, peaking in cautiously. You’re laid on the bed, arm over your eyes and leg straightened and elevated. Your soft sniffles and the typing from the trainer are the only sounds that can be heard.

“Baby.” Emily spoke, causing you to remove your arm from your face, revealing your red, puffy eyes. She makes her way over to you, grabbing your hand, kissing the knuckles gently.

“How bad is it?” she whispers. You shake your head, not trusting your voice. The trainer told you it was likely torn, an injury that's difficult to come back from.

Emily sighs deeply. “It’ll be okay, baby. You’ll be better in no time.”

You feel frustration bubble up in your chest. “How do you know? I can’t fucking play basketball. Basketball is one of the most important things to me, and I can’t fucking do.” You breathe in sharply, looking at Emily, even though she and you both know you're not upset with her.

“It’s the only thing I’m actually good at. I can’t sit here an do fucking nothing for god knows how long, waiting to get back into it. I’m in the best shape of my life, and I just fucked it up. I’m never gonna be able to-” you cut yourself off with a sob. Emily takes this opportunity to stop yourself from spiraling.

“No, no, honey. You’ll come back from this, just like you’ve come back from everything. Basketball doesn’t define you, no matter how good you are at it. It’ll be a long process, and I can’t promise it’ll go smoothly, but you got this. We got this.” She’s tearing up now because no matter how tough and scary she may seem on the outside, she’s a giant softie for you.

Emily wipes her eyes, standing up and pacing, clearly panicking. Your eyes widen as you realize what’s happening. “Emily, come here, baby.” You reach your arms out for her. She immediately stops pacing and practically runs into your arms.

She nuzzles her head in your neckline, tears staining your jersey. “I know. I know. I’m scared, too.” You whisper into her scalp.

You both stay like this for a while, before she pulls away and sits back in her seat. “Baby, it’s gonna be okay.” you say, reaching for her hand once more. She takes your hand and rubs her tattooed fingers over your knuckles. “I know.”

Eventually, it’s halftime, and the rest of the team comes to check on you. Fifteen minutes later, Emily has to leave. She’s pissed about it, but with your reassurance, she surrenders and turns to leave.

“Go win for me, baby.” You call after her.

And she does.

Battle Subway Depot Agents (by pig-demon)

When I made designs for these guys last year I didn’t really think they needed colored references/master post, but since then I’ve drawn them a lot! Also people have added them to their fanfics and drawn fanart! So I figured it was time I made a post for easy ref. :]

These designs are obviously free to use, just give credit (and link me your work if you're comfortable, because it makes me happy to see!) All I request is to stay respectful to their pronouns and skin colors, ya knooow… 👍 note: The pokemon on their cards are all companions, not the ones they use on the Battle Subway. Except Jackie...the litwicks are just there to fill space/give them company.

Many people have done takes on them before and after me, even back in 2010. It feels silly to ask, but due to past experience, I ask that you please DONT hunt down anyone that does a different take on the depot agents!! 👍

Height chart:

I’m not too strict about heights, so I don’t really care about actual measurements. Here’s an approximation of what I tend to visualize though:

Sexualities/Gender Identities: I don't have official labels for each and every agent because I like keeping things fluid for characters to develop these traits on their own. However, as a queer person, I enjoy designing characters who are also queer, therefore I can safely say none of these characters are straight. The ones who are set in stone are Ramses (gay man), Cloud (lesbian woman,) Jackie (non-binary.) Furze uses he/they pronouns but their gender is undetermined. I also welcome anyone giving the agents a different gender identity to suit them (as long as it's done respectfully.)

Notes about each agent...

Cameron:

- Cameron dyes parts of his hair blonde and keeps other parts in black. This is because he is a big fan of Elesa and her fashion choices.  - Though there have been a few occasions to meet his idol, he is always way too nervous to approach her, feeling deep down that he'll mess up somehow. - He practices modeling poses in secret. He loves flourishes and flare, but is simply too insecure to put it on display. - Of his coworkers, he gets along the best with Furze. He's the easiest to talk to because Furze will do most of the talking. - Cameron is easily intimidated — even mean Pokémon can make him nervous. Though, his two worst fears are being left in a room alone with Jackie, and being left alone in a room with Isadore. - He takes advantage of his height to sometimes hide behind some of his coworkers. - Cameron is much better at Pokémon battles than he gives himself credit for. Emmet and Ingo were pleasantly surprised by this, since Cameron was promoted to fit a temporary role on the Battle Subway. They happily made him a permanent member when he proved himself capable. - His Dwebble (Pebby) is secretly very strong, and rushes to protect Cameron when it can. Cam sometimes thinks Pebby helps him feel more confident in himself too.  - If he stumbled into any of his coworkers outside of work, he would simply explode of embarrassment. - He is the youngest child and only son of his family. He lives in his own apartment in Nimbasa.

Cloud:

- Cloud (like Ramses) knew the twins when they were very young. - She used to be an ace trainer in her youth, even going so far to compete in the Pokémon league. Winning and becoming the champ was the most important part of her journey, but something happened along the way that changed that outlook. - It seems with age, her competitiveness has mellowed out. However, she maintains an intense energy when battling.  - Her favorite types are Psychic and Flying types. Swoobat (Sweetie) is her ace.  - Her favorite hobby is baking, and she often bakes sweets for the crew. She knows all their favorite flavors by now! - She prioritizes keeping a friendly relationship with all her coworkers and thinks of them fondly. She considers Ramses family after all the years of working together!  - She is a big fan of Brycen's movies and can recite the lines. - She lives with her wife in Anville. - Cloud loves doing maintenance work both at home and in Gear Station. She enjoys bringing her own tools and industrial flashlight.

Furze:

- Furze only has one volume setting (mid loud,) but he finds himself feeling right at home when talking to either one of the twins. - Furze has ADHD, and this is reflected in some of his habits, most visibly is his fidgeting when sitting still for too long. - He rides a bike to work every day. When he is late, Cloud clocks in for him so he doesn't get in trouble. - This is a kind of a guy that sits crouched gargoyle style on chairs. Only outside of work, of course. Bad posture could get him in trouble. - While working on the Battle Subway, there will be times Furze feels sorry for his opponents and offers to quietly let them pass anyways. This...has also gotten him in trouble. :[ - He went to the same elementary school as Isadore in Castelia. Though Isadore seems to have forgotten their short-lived acquaintance, Furze has not. This is part of the reason Furze claims they are in fact good friends!!! - Furze is the middle child of a big family. He lives with his mom and takes care of her, along with his many Darumakas and Darmanitan. All of his Pokemon have famous trains names. - He collects model trains. Naturally.

Isadore

- Isadore had plans to become the station master the moment he was hired as a depot agent, but alas... (sad trumpet sound.) - As a youth, he was more interested in science and engineering over Pokemon battles. He enjoys the strategizing aspect, at most. Not so much the competitiveness. - In addition, his Pokemon are all rescues and not used for battling. He's had his Watchog (Winston) since he was in his late teens. - His Electrode (Gregor) and Voltorb (Leonard) were rescued from the likes of Team Plasma. - Isadore admits he understands Pokemon better than humans. This has been apparent his whole life. - In spite of acting like a sitcom villain, Isadore cares about the management of Gear Station and the safety of the passengers to an incredible degree. He sees it as a personal life goal to assist in the management of Gear Station, as well as the success of the Battle Subway. - Though it pained him to become a subordinate to the twins, he begrudgingly accepts it for the greater good. - His almost militant efficiency certainly made up for his years of antagonizing the twins before they became the bosses. Ingo and Emmet understand this better than anyone. - Isadore keeps tabs on all of the staff members. So he very well knows all their birthdays and makes it a point to celebrate it. This is by no means a -happy- or -festive- event. It's just customary. - Like Furze, he was originally from Castelia, but now resides in Nimbasa. Isadore's only family is his mom and she lives in his childhood home with their Stoutland. - Isadore would have probably been voiced by every glasses guy ever J. Michael Tatum had he not already been cast as dear Emmet lmao

Jackie

- Jackie is a mystery and they like keeping it that way. When they talk, it's practically impossible to determine what is a lie or truth, especially if the subject is themselves or their background. - They love scaring Cameron the most and will ask to be paired with him whenever possible. They claim Cameron is their "favorite coworker," while Isadore is the least favorite. - It's plain to see why -- Jackie is the only one that doesn't passively tolerate Isadore's tirades. - Though my comics sometimes may allude to Jackie being a ghost/supernatural, this is not confirmed nor canon. I just personally enjoy toying with the concept. : ) That being said...

- Special Containment Procedures: The ████ ██████ is ██████ within ████-██████. - Ingo and Emmet choose to not question anything about Jackie, since it's clear they're one of the more efficient workers. However it can be a safety concern... - Cloud and Ramses have worked with Jackie for a long time, though they've forgotten somehow. They believe Jackie is a new hire since they appear to be young. - Anyone trying to make sense of Jackie's employee records simply can't bring themselves to any conclusions. It's better to ignore the inconsistencies. - Jackie has never been seen to leave Gear Station. Jackie has never been seen in anything but their uniform. Jackie has never been confirmed to eat, drink or blink. Jackie knows your secrets. Jackie thinks it's... amusing.

Ramses

- Ramses sometimes misses having a full head of hair, but he thinks his signs of age make him look distinguished. (he is correct.) - Ramses is sort of the "mom friend," making sure everyone's concerns are heard, as well as trying to keep the peace whenever a conflict might arise. - If another coworker is feeling low, Ramses will try to cheer them up with a lighthearted joke or offer advice if they'd like it. - When the twins were promoted to bosses of the Battle Subway, Ramses cried because he felt so proud. - In most circumstances, he is a very simple and logical man. He is quick to find solutions and tries not to fret over the little stuff. It's not good for his heart after all. - His ace is his Pikachu (Musa,) though the mouse is more of a lap pet now. At home, he also has an Audino (Sara) and a Manectric (Nubi) who keep Ramses' husband company. His Klinklang (Moli) is the only one of his personal pokemon that accompany him to work nowadays. - Ramses considers Cloud family. They are best friends and love having family gatherings outside of work. They also gossip a lot, and don't mind when Jackie decides to join. - Ramses jokes about looking forward to retirement, but really doesn't want to leave until he is physically incapable of working anymore. Gear Station is like a second home to him.

In-Game Quotes

The most important reference of all are their in-game quotes, of course, so I'm adding it to the post. A lot of their personality traits can be extracted and interpreted from these few lines. And I personally love that about Pokemon NPCs -- there's a lot of room to explore and play with. Some appear very obvious. Cameron practically announces that he isn't ready for the battle that's about to ensue and seems genuinely surprised to win. Furze comes out the gate talking about the subject they actually care about, which is their job and their love for trains. The two of them are very easy to understand. Now, Ramses lines allude to a gentle and simple personality. He views himself with humility, and maybe even with a bit of humor comparing himself to a train and to his opponent to a station. If he loses he shows no signs of disappointment, he just accepts defeat with one last honest quip. It s also amusing to see the Depot Agents all use train metaphors to describe themselves since it falls in line with how Ingo and Emmet talk.

In comparison, Cloud does the same thing calling herself the terminal instead. Immediately, she is way more daring, though still keeping a sense of professionalism. To me, it's obvious she is competitive as she even admits she was expecting to win ("Ah...I didn't see it coming.") Jackie's lines are fun since it's up to interpretation if they are being literal or lying. It's almost like they are more interested in confusing/creeping out their opponent than actually beating them. To me, it gives off a mischievous vibe. Isadore's opener "There are only two roads in life." is a curious one because it almost feels like he is trying to be philosophical. Definitely a guy who views himself as an intellectual, regardless if that’s true or not. I like to think it's a saying he really believes in, and it applies to his life. The road he likes (long route) vs the road he hates (shortcut) -- fighting tooth and nail to become boss vs biting his tongue and accepting Ingo and Emmet as the Subway Masters.

Those are just my thoughts on how I write these characters. Please have fun playing with these lines too!

I may be writing Pokémon AU crackfic that somehow ended up juniors POV, even though it’s supposed to be about xiyao.

concept: the juniors all have Eevees, but they are as different as dog breeds could be.

Wen Yuan has an Eevee named Radish, possibly a gift from his not-uncle WWX (who thinks Eevees are foxes, obvs). She is well behaved and quite strong. Very elegant despite the cutesy name (the name is due to the fact that her fur sticks up on her little head like a radish leaf)! He hasn’t decided what to evolve her into and he is not worried about it. He is the most accomplished gym battler of the trio.

Jin Ling has an Eevee named Fairy (of course); she has perfect EVs because she was gifted by his uncle JGY when he was President of the Pokémon League. Fairy is spoiled, but also extremely loyal and cuddly. She refuses to go inside her Pokeball most of the time. Jin Ling is being pressured to evolve her into a Jolteon (because most Jins have Pikachus and other electric types, etc.) but he is insistent that she will evolve with friendship when it is time.

Lan Jingyi’s Eevee is a lazy boy named Chicken, but please don’t make fun of him - Jingyi named him when he was five and his dad’s Sylveon had just had puppies (yes, eggs, but whatever). He cried so much when they tried to give the puppies away that he had been allowed to keep Chicken, even if it was way too early for him to become a Pokémon trainer. As a result, Chicken is pretty badly trained. A great pet, though. Since they both grew up on a mountain, Chicken is very good in the cold and Jingyi is considering whether to buy him a water stone or trek to the Ice Rock to evolve it for his next birthday.

Marital Arts: Y/N does have great marital arts despite her being so young, but she's still learning.

Mithridatism: Batgirl can take any sort of poison whether it's deadly or not. She trained to take one spoonful of poison as her training during her training years.

Gadgets:

Ribbon Wand: Because she does dancing, it won't complete it without a ribbon wand. Y/N received it from Batman when she told him about her experience with dancing and how she wanted her own ribbon wand one day. The ribbon is strong enough to break a person's neck.

Batarang: These devices are Bat-shaped, throwing weapons usually used to disorientate enemies, and are a ranged substitute for often carrying multiple Batarangs on her person while on patrol.

Grapple Gun: Batgirl frequently uses a grappling gun not unlike that used by Batman. This device fires a strong cable that latches onto a surface and winches Y/N up. She commonly uses this device while patrolling urban rooftops.

Bo Staff: Y/N uses these as a substitute weapon whenever she "forgot" to bring the equipment that Batman provided for her. The bo staff she has was a gift from Deathstroke.

Pocket Knife: Only used it for training, but she is scared to use it on anyone because it could "really hurt them".

Backstory:

There were two different people from different leagues who were rivals since the first ever year. The couple were in love and conceived a child, which was a baby girl who they named Y/N. However, the two leagues found about their secret affair that made the mother's father kill her husband. After she found out about the murder, the mother decided to go after her father and kill him the exact same way, but more painful and slower. This caused the mother to be sentenced to death while she was pregnant with Y/N's little brother, which made her give away her infant daughter to her trusted friend, Lady Shiva. Before her mother was executed, she gave Y/N a handmade stuffed animal that is a purple bat. She named her new best friend, Batsie.

As Y/N was sent to live under Lady Shiva's roof, she was forced to train, study, and do many chores while she was still three years old along with Deathstroke. However, she had an actual human friend named Matcha who helped her show off what the woman who was taking care of her about her true colors by making the young girl into a perfect weapon and helped her escape right after that.

When Y/N was four, she arrived at Gotham City and was wandering around before she arrived at an orphanage building where she was greeted by a woman who was called Miss Wells. Ever since then, she learned how the world was like and lived there before a man named Bruce Wayne came in and brought her to his home, which will be her new life.

Larry sighed at another gym trainer again showed up on his lunch break. He understood that this was technically his allotted time for being a gym leader since it was his free time outside of his office duties related to the league. But, he was exhausted. Well, he was always exhausted, but today, even more so. Somehow.

He decided against questioning it too much as he took his position opposite of the trainer. The ball went flying from his hand in a similar manner to a baseball as Komala landed on the field. He sighed as he stood there watching the trainer across from him. Hopefully, this would be over quickly, and he could focus on digesting his meal instead of battle strategies.

The kid's first pokemon showed that would not be the case, however. Larry grabbed his chin as he pondered how to get through this efficiently and quickly as possible. A move that barely did any damage to his Komala, and in turn, his Sucker Punch barely did any to the kid's pokemon. He felt even more tired. The Gym Leader would have preferred a kid who came in with pokemon ready to sweep his entire time as embarrassing as that could be.

By the fifth round, the kid had not yet even taken out his first pokemon, and he could feel the seconds before he was dragged back to his desk ticking ever closer. Geeta's hot breaths on the back of his neck, like a Houndoom about to punch on its prey. He wished the opposing pokemon would wake up from its sleeping status.

Something, however, broke this train of monotony. The endless cycle of trying to get through this battle like a workday was interrupted by a loud cheer. Larry turned his head to the crowd. His mouth nearly hung open, but he caught himself before that could happen. Bright yellow and pompoms made his heart nearly stop. You stood in the crowd loudly cheering him on, dressed in a manner like his Oricorio.

Why? Larry felt flustered as he turned to ignore it and focus on his battle. Now, he really needed to finish this quicker. Your cheers grew louder as his Komala somehow landed a critical hit and knocked out the kid's first pokemon. Luck. It was just luck. A rare thing in his life, but it was still a thing most people would experience. The challenger's next pokemon came out and managed to actually knock out his Komala.

This sort of back forth continued until it was down to the kid's last pokemon and his Staraptor. He felt even most distraught as a crowd of customers joined you in cheering for him. Larry sighed. You probably accidentally had pulled them up. Well, he might as well put on a show for the people who had come to watch. His Staraptor terastallized brilliantly as your cheers grew even louder with the shaking of your pompoms. His heart was racing. They seemed shocked as an Aerial Ace knocked out his final pokemon. Cheers came from everyone.

He gave a few words to the kid about training his team differently, but they only turned away from him and rushed out the door. Larry felt another sigh come from him. Kids these days. He was going to offer him lunch as a thanks for trying. Stepping down off the stage, he felt you nearly tackle him into a hug. “Hello, dear,” Larry cut his eyes to you, “I was about to eat again before heading back to the office.”

“I'll join you then,” you smiled brightly at him, “You battled really well, Larry! Good job!” His lips twisted into a small grin. Your outfit was still too much for him. Where did you even find something like that?

“I'll pay,” he agreed and shook off your embrace to let you instead just hold his hand, “Nice outfit.”

You snickered and followed him as he led you to his preferred seat at the counter. “I got it specifically for you,” you told him, “I was hoping it'd be a little more encouragement for your battles since you obviously need it.”

Larry could only shake his head.

He had been doomed the minute he agreed to date you, it seemed.

Pokemon Horizons Episode 46 Review - Terastal Debut

What I like most about this episode is that so much is given out and it’s explained so thoroughly. Instead of having the kids go on a Treasure Hunt like in the game, Liko, Roy and Dot enroll in Naranja Academy’s Terastal Course. It turns out that the school allows students from all over the world to enroll in the course to learn more about Terastal as permitted by Director Clavell and Chairwoman Geeta.

Dendra gives an explanation of how the course works. To study Terastal, students must defeat Gym Leaders according to their aptitude. There’s also a condition as students can only have two chances to challenge a Gym Leader and if they acknowledge their skills, they pass. Also, students cannot terastalize outside of battles not revolving around the Terastal Course; this means that regular trainer battles do not permit Terastalizing. Liko gets paired up with Katy, Roy gets paired up with Brassius and Dot gets paired up with Iono. The kids get camping equipment as they have to camp out for the course. Dot is definitely not amused that she has to touch grass for a while now.

There are so many characters introduced here that it’s insane. Alex and Lucca, Liko’s parents, return and are actually seen together. It’s sweet that she has loving parents. Given that Lucca is a teacher, she doesn’t seem to work at Naranja Academy and probably works elsewhere. That’s an interesting detail. Then we have Clavell who wears the Scarlet version of his outfit. Then there’s the Pokemon League members with Geeta and the Elite Four showing up. It’s crazy how they all just show up at the school like it’s normal business to patrol the school or something. There’s also the debut of Penny who has no lines. I guess she’s forced to work for the League in this iteration, but it’ll be cool if Team Star gets implemented into the story. Jacq and Dendra make their debuts as teachers. They still teach their respective subjects of Biology and Battle Studies. Dendra is the one who explains the course to the kids while Jacq tells them that he wants reports from them as they are still students at the end of the day. Nemona makes her reappearance with a newly evolved Pawmot. In her first appearance, her Pawmo was the butt of a recurring joke where it got sprayed by Brassius’s Doliv’s oil twice. Here, Nemona is now the butt of the recurring joke as her desire to battle Roy gets interrupted by staff and the school bell.

The biggest surprise in terms of character returns is Ann who has transferred to Naranja Academy to partake in the Terestal Course with her newly evolved Dewott. The battle between her and Liko was really well-animated. Liko and Ann were very strategic and used various tactics to one-up each other. My favorite part of the battle was when Dewott used Aerial Ace and its fists glowed up and tried to punch Floragato. I hope Ann battles more in this arc because it’d be a waste to not let her battle when she’s very capable.

Another surprise is the Explorers coming in to partake in the course too. Sidian and Coral arrive late, and use very terrible pseudonyms in order to pass as students. Fortunately, they were able to get in because Chalce is disguised as a teacher and was able to hack them into the database. The Explorers are doing this because they were tasked to keep an eye on Liko. There were two things I liked about the Explorers segment. The first is Coral laughing her head off when Sidian introduces them as Onigiri and Sandwich, which she then accepts. The second is the fact that Liko, Roy and Dot recognize them and isn’t suffering from face blindness that Ash and his friend suffered through for 25 years when it came to Team Rocket’s disguises.

Last but not least, the Rising Volt Tacklers are doing their own thing right now. Orla is in charge of the Brave Olivine repairs. Mollie and Ludlow are caring for Pokemon. Murdock is working at what seems to be Patisserie Soapberry as his outfit looks similar to Katy’s. Friede is going to research the Six Heroes as he has the Ancient Pokeballs and Lucius’s belt in his possession as Liko goes to take the Terastal Course. It’ll be cool to see what the other RVTs will be doing in future episodes.

As a whole, the entire episode was a very good introduction to the third chapter. The pacing was great in terms of squeezing in everything that was needed. The new opening and ending songs were great too! I think it’s amazing how they managed to get IVE, a K-POP girl group, to sing in Japanese for Horizons. Since K-POP is rather popular in Japan and they have been using KPOP groups for different anime openings for various animes, it was about time that Pokemon would do the same. It shows that this arc will be one to remember with the new changes! It does feel like the quality has stepped up here. I’m honestly hyped up for what’s to come. What about you?

In the Pokémon XY(Z) anime, I think that Tierno should have been the Pokémon performer out of the Kalos friends. I think he should have been Serena’s rival, instead of or with Shauna.

On one hand, Shauna’s great and fine, ya know? She was alright! But just Fine. I would like her more if she was there more.

On the other hand, Tierno’s personality is dancer. He is literally a DANCERRRRR. His Pokémon are DANCERS. It was his entire thing in the games (the source material) and even in the anime because of his battling style. And I get it, girl power and stuff. I loved the female solidarity in the master class, ya know? Girls supporting girls, even when competing, which is why I sorta would still like Shauna there (or give the other girls attention, god bless /lh). But as far fetched and/or impossible as it is for the anipoke writers (/lh again), I would have adored seeing a boy in that setting. A boy unabashedly passionate about performing in a sphere that’s female dominated and being just as supportive and positive. Being totally unashamed. I think that would be so cool.

It would have made his crush make more sense too, honestly, or just add some more charm to it. It wasn’t hindering the show because it didn’t come up often, just hindered his character because it came up when he was there. But imagine it developed as she grew into being a confident performer. Don’t even make the crush reciprocated, it still could have been cuter this way.

AND WHILE IM AT IT, because I just thought of this while writing, if I were in charge of the writing with my current mindset and understanding: Change up the counterparts for the trios.

Make Tierno and Serena each others’ counterparts, and change the others along with it.

I think it’s safe to say Trevor and Clemont were kinda~ counterparts, just the least developed of them (brainiacs, both seem to have some type of anxiety, not neurotypical IN THE SLIGHTEST, etc.). I think that Trevor and Ash could have been fun. Trevor was the member of the Kalos rival trio to master Mega Evolution, and he also battled in the League. In the games, he has a crisis about his own strength and doubts his abilities as a trainer because he has end goals different from other trainers. I just KNOW Ash would have been the best rival and friend to help him through that. Trevor has an affinity for taking photographs of Pokémon, pointing out the differences and rarities in them, and seeking out the legendaries Ash has met and battled before. And Ash, mister nomad with such love for the world around him, I think, would find a lot of interest in that and support it. Plus, Trevor has Charizard. Ash’s ace used to be Charizard. They could have bonded, they could have been incredible.

And that leaves Clemont and Shauna. And what do ya know?? Clemont and Shauna are EXPLICITLY FRIENDS in the games! It didn’t click with me until I started ranting about Tierno and Serena, but CLEMONT AND SHAUNA ARE CANONICALLY BUDDY BUDDY IN THE SOURCE MATERIAL (I get that Shauna is super friendly with Serena in the games as well, but you know what I mean). The device Shauna uses to break into the final chamber of Team Flare’s secret lab was a gift from Clemont. In the beginning of the game, Shauna knows little to nothing about being a trainer, but when she gets to Lumiose City and sees the gym leader and his little sister outside the gym, she recognizes them by face and exclaims “Those two are my friends! :D” It would have been fun seeing an unlikely friendship develop between the scientist who thinks he’s got his future figured out and the trainer with no set path who’s striving to love life as it is in the present.

TEAM: Ceruledge, Cofagrigus, Dhelmise, Aegislash, Hydreigon, Florges

Domestic, not used to battle: Galvantula, Mothim, Zangoose

Lazarus is a Normal Guy who appears unassuming as a trainer at first but her team is WEIRDLY strong and she always sweeps her opponents. He absolutely has the potential to beat the entire league and become the Champion- but she doesn't want to, because he wants to stay right by Levi's side and assist her with Gym Leader stuff.

GYM LEADER LEVIATHAN

TEAM: Jellicent, Wishiwashi, Huntail, Gyarados (Mega)

Not used for battling: Seaking, Porygon, Seviper

Also I didn't mention this in Laz's bit but they've mutually adopted a Mimikyu it belongs to both of em.

Leviathan is a fairly strong Gym Leader (gym 6/8) and she puts up a pretty good fight, since she knows a lot about battling and puts a lot of effort into his battle strategies! Buuuuuut. She's an EXTREMELY sore loser. If a challenger beats him, he always throws a major fit about it and refuses to give them the badge. Sometimes if he's REALLY bitter about the loss, she even decides to, um. Call in her husband.

Right! Whenever Levi loses a battle particularly badly, she always goes straight to Lazarus whining about it, brings him over, and pulls out the "OKAY, well! If you can beat her, then I'll give you the stupid badge!", because she knows his husband is really tough and no one has ever been able to beat her yet. It's not playing fair but he doesn't care about that 🎉

Lazarus goes along with it and does as she says of course because she loves her wife but regardless of the battle's outcome, he always manages to talk Levi into giving the poor trainer the badge anyway. She just has to hold her and reassure him a bunch afterwards w
