And yes, I noticed the username. Another reason to block because damn...
Found an aphobe for your blocklist. @/lovenazi

Btw, no. We don't want to be opressed. Pretty sure we want to be treated like people.

while we're doing tvc sex discourse I will admit I kind of am not a fan the framing of tvc vampires as "asexual" like...they have sex all the time, they want to have sex all the time, both in terms of blood drinking (which is a direct metaphor for sex) and through explicit means like hormones or body swaps. not to mention that they're primarily framed as allosexual before their turning. their dicks just Don't Work, that's not the same thing as asexuality. it kind of feels like saying a character who's paralyzed from the waist down is #acerep because they can't use their genitals for sex anymore. ntm that if you removed the sexually connotations for blood drinking you're ignoring the times blood drinking is used to connotate sexual violence, pedophilia, incest...kind of stripping the gothic elements from a series we all got into for being gothic horror.

tbh I really dislike how aphobia tends to be discussed whenever there's some kind of incident that makes it visible to general society. The most common response seems to be some variation of "why would anyone hate asexual/aromantic people, they aren't even doing anything" and it just always sits wrong with me. It paints such a passive picture of our existence and feels like a comment influenced by the level of invisibility that aspec people have in society. Why would you be annoyed by someone who is practically invisible? Just go back to ignoring their existence, it's easy!
But despite the invisibility, aspec people are actually doing quite a lot of things that will piss off queerphobic, right-wing and religious people (and hell, even left-wing people). And the most obvious point is that we are actively not performing heterosexuality the way they want us to. People who's entire world view is "cis men and women should be in monogamous, heterosexual marriage and have (white) babies" are not going to lean back and say "oh but those asexuals and aromantics are fine". They will also hate our guts, and they will come up with all sorts of reasons, including insinuating we're all secretly into bestiality, or mentally ill, or not human, or attention seeking children. It's just plain old queerphobia, and like all queerphobia, there's no inherent logic to it which you can worm your way out of by "not doing anything".
And like, there's a lot more that aspec people do which people hate. Raising awareness about amatonormativity? People feel attacked, they hate it. Asexual people having sex? Or not having sex? People hate it! Aromantic people being in (seemingly) romantic relationships? People fucking hate it! Aromantic people having sex? Ohh people hate that!!
I guess the existence of aphobia can be confusing when you haven't spent much time thinking about asexuality and aromanticism, but in the end, these are identities that aren't heteronormative and they will be hit with the same or similar bigotry as any other queer identity. I just get tired of this response after seeing it recycled for 10 years without ever seeming to go any further.

I had an annoying interaction so this is your friendly reminder that the A in LGBTQIA+ does not stand for ally, it stands for aspec people.
Editing because people have mentioned in the tags, thank you for reminding my dumb ass:
Also agender people! The A is for aspec (not just aro and ace, the WHOLE spectrum!) and agender people.

i dont want kids. "well you might change your mind!" no i wont. "well you could help infertile parents and do surrogacy" pregnancy is a part of why i dont want kids. i dont want that. "then do adoption" still dont want kids. "but what about your partner" im aromantic. "but if you had a partner" im aroace. "you might still change your mind" no i wont. "you might meet that one person who'll change your mind. trust me" I! AM! AROMANTIC! AND! ASEXUAL!
"how can you have dated people if you're ace" shut up shut up shut up shut up

Lust is evil and a sin until someone is asexual and then not lusting after anyone is a sin because being queer is evil… You would think christians would look at asexuality as being holy or some shit. But noooo, bigotry disguised as religious belief is never that fucking simple is it…

the more I get back in my habit from 2018-ish of searching "asexual" on blogs before I make a habit of interacting with them frequently, the more I realize that a lot of people started to reblog way less aphobia circa 2018, but without literally any sign of their opinions on asexual people changing, or making any effort to include them.
and that's how we get the current tumblr climate. people doing a disservice to important stuff like sex positivity or kink at pride, by just regurgitating shit like "well sex is what makes us queer, you fucking prude." instead of, you know, actually talking about why sex positivity is important for a wide range of sexualities, or why kink at pride has a long historical context. or even bringing up the fact that policing/mocking people's relationship with sex just for being different than yours is just inherently bad in and of itself. the aphobia is still ingrained in this site, just subtler now.

What the hell is going on in the LGBTQ+ community lately
Maybe I'm too deep into a bubble or maybe I'm only now seeing the weird side of the community, but the amount of biphobia, aro/acephobia, transmedicalism, anti-transmasculinity, lesbians hating on trans lesbians and people who wanna separate the TQ+ from the LGB on my dash lately is incredible.
Why are we infighting at such a critical time
Why do we have to micromanage who's allowed to play with us like we're 5 year olds picking tag teams
None of you are more mature or more palatable to people who hate queer people if you reject parts of the community or modern developments of labels.
It's not in favor of our striving for freedom if you break free from one cage just to impose another upon yourself.
Many of y'all need to take a lesson in fluidity and acceptance. Sit yourselves down in class next to the homophobes and transphobes, because stubborn single-mindedness is not exclusive to people who aren't queer.
#can we start seeing people as colorful and diverse again and stop treating labels as qualifiers#lgbtq community#lgbtqia#biphopia#arophobia#acephobia#transmedicalism#anti transmasculinity#trans lesbian

The survey, which collated the thoughts of 400 people in England, suggests that misconceptions around asexuality are widespread across the UK. It showed that 26 per cent of those surveyed believed asexual people simply haven’t met the right person, while 11 per cent hold the notion that asexual people don’t even exist.

can't say i love the aro community becoming increasingly hostile to aroaces, especially when a lot of us have already been alienated from the ace community for the exact same reason. i don't like the conflation of asexuality and aromanticism either, but some people seem to be getting reallll comfortable with casual acephobia. like. man just say you hate ace people, you're not special

CA$H PIGGOTT.
I need to talk about Cash Piggott and how important his character is to the asexual community.
I absolutely adore the fact that Cash calls people out on their acephobia and never, ever apologises for who he is. He doesn't think he's broken.
In season one, we see Darren say "you know what, I think there's something really fucking wrong with you, Cash," and Cash immediately, with no hesitation, screams "well fuck you then".
In season two, we see Dusty say that he's being selfish asking Darren to give up sex and he immediately stands up and says "fuck this" because he knows he doesn't have to listen to people making him feel bad about his sexuality.
And when he's talking to his nan about it, Cash says "it's not fair, I would do anything, why does it have to be the one thing I can't change about myself?"
In every single one of these scenes, we never see Heartbreak High blame Cash for his sexuality. We never see him apologise to anyone for not feeling sexual attraction, and we never see him feel guilty about it, or try to change who he is.
CA$H recognises that his sexuality might be difficult for people to accept and understand, but he never lets other people make him feel like he's broken, or flawed. And that's so powerful to see.
Because asexual people are not broken. And we can't be fixed. And we are not being selfish for putting in boundaries.
I absolutely adore Douglas Piggott. He means the world to me, and this representation is so, so important.
