ultimate goal:
- use AAC tools to communicate when having verbal loss (aka 84% of the time)
mini goals:
- master Proloquo2Go
- stop forcing speech
- find perfect setting for TTS on phone and tablet
- get mini speaker for louder environments
- have a notes section for when you have to type
- get a small notepad ton use when you have to write
- get more + make more communication cards
- make cards for your autism/verbal loss
- tell everyone we communicate with regularly that we aren't gonna force speech anymore, and that we should be given time to communicate non verbally (no option to say)
- tell everyone to text instead of call
- learn to type faster + type without grammer mistakes
- use Proloquo2Go often and in front of others, not just TTS
- make Proloquo2Go easier to use and put butttons everywhere so no need to look frantically for words
- make AAC boards of things we communicate with like "yippie, same, valid" and other things exaplaing things like pronouns, gender, alter names, why we use AAC tools and what AAC are, things we will usually be worder and food places
- use AAC tools on video calls
- accept we are a semispeaking system
- accept its okay for US to use AAC tools
- accept all of our stims our valid, even self injurious and vocal stims, loud or quiet
- get a button/pun to but on sunfloweryard that is AAC user + semispeaking

want to talk about my aac use a little bit
I'm semiverbal/semispeaking so part of the time I am able to use mouth words but it is still really difficult
(not just to get the words out of my mouth but also to get them out the right way, right order, right pronounce, not to squished together or to slow, etc... i also have lots of pauses and gestures that interrupt my speech which cuts sentences short or just disrupts the flow... there almost never a time when I fully communicate the idea in my head the way I want without using aac)
i use aac part of the time. i do have aac apps, but only have access to a phone and not other device like tablet
this means the screen is not really big enough and I cannot access the app in a way that is easy enough to be useful for me
i also have text to speech on my phone because I am able to write (especially if I have spell check)
but if I am stimming to much to type or the words in my brain are still not in the right order then text to speech can be difficult
this all leads me to my point which is that i use a lot of low tech and no tech aac
mostly core boards, small flipbooks, printed keyboards/letterboards, communication cards, gestures, noises, and echolalia
lots of the time i also just stay wordless, sometimes the aac is too hard or I cant answer the question or the person I need to tell will not accept aac as communication
lots of people think of these resources as only for kids, only for extremely severe/profound disabilities, less valid, non communicative, and lots of other things.
i hope these ideas will be less someday and other people will respect my aac use as valid when I want to share what I have to say

Anyway uh
Is anyone able to recommend some good (preferably free) AAC apps for Android/that might be in the Google Play store?
The old one we had only had one voice and we couldn't change it, we could only change the text we chose but the words still came out English with the same voice every time and it bothered us to the point we deleted it
We'd like to be able to speak French with our AAC as well as English, at least.
If there are any good AAC apps we could try it would help so much
Honestly would save so much of our social battery and spoons

words can use that not nonverbal nonspeaking alter or semiverbal semispeaking alter :
quiet alter
alter does not talk
alter does not speak
silent alter
silenced alter
wordless alter
mute alter
voiceless alter
there a lots different words can use that not for people who all time not able mouth talk or all time find hard mouth talk.
I semiverbal and I have DID am system. I see lots people use wrong words so I give other words can use. not like when people talk over nonverbal nonspeaking and semiverbal semispeaking people.

Haven't seen a post like this so I'll make one: Shoutout to the autistics that have special interests that people find creepy (for example horror , true crime things , knives but could also be anatomy etc because that might come off as creepy)
Double shoutout to autistics who enjoy talking about these things with no awareness that people find it creepy/get uncomfortable when hear it.

Ambiguous emotional rant:
Being nonspeaking/nonverbal, HSN and homebound anyone with high support needs and complex needs knows just how much autonomous and liberating the internet has to be for those of us who have no other safe place to be our true unapologetic, unadulterated, and authentic weird selves. I am very grateful and appreciative for the internet’s existence that it was ever even created/invented by mankind and that we have the freedom of speech to post (hopefully not all Nonspeakers, AAC users, or HSN disabled people have the freedom of speech to post what they like on the internet sadly) but for those who have good supportive caregivers, and those who have learned how to successfully, and safely access the internet World Wide Web, this is my toast to all of you who have found some semblance of human rights, freedom of speech, creative freedom and expression through your own words, I’m all so happy to be born in the right time in human history to have lived to see this day where hundreds of thousands of autistics, LSN, MSN, HSN, those verbal, semi verbal, minimally verbal, and nonverbal/nonspeaking have a place (so sorry for those who have not found it yet, or might not ever), to post what they like, to the best of their ability. I’m just so very grateful to have made a digital footprint on internet history. I pray we can make the internet a safer more inclusive and accessible accepting environment. Those of us who will most likely never be seen or known for who we truly are online than they see us in real life. Just know that you’re welcome here with me.

it's okay if your speech is incoherent, unreliable, sounds "weird" (different from standart), if you use short sentences or separated words, if you use sounds instead of words for communicating, if you often say wrong words, if you can't use proper grammar, if you use aac, if you use aac n still can't communicate all you wanna, if you need more time for communication, if you stutter, if you lose speech frequently, if you have other problems with speech. you are valid n your communication is valid. your thoughts, needs, n desires are valid. you deserve to be listened to. you deserve to be understood. you deserve to be included. you deserve to be accommodated. you deserve to be respected.
you don't have to be ashamed. you don't have to be scared. you don't have to feel alone. (it's okay if you feel that way, it's valid. your feelings have reasons. you are not overreacting. world is wrong, not you).

Before describing being semi verbal if you are fully verbal:
Hate when people try to describe being semi verbal as just "its when you have speech loss sometimes! :) " no , semi verbal isn't "sometimes speech loss" other wise it would just be "speech loss episode " or something , no semi verbal is a permanent state , semi verbal is more like : have difficulty specking not the way people seem to think . Easiest explanation is : unreliable speech all the time , I can talk but its hard for me , its more than just "speech loss sometimes" its like need words but the thought of the word won't form and I feel like my mouth is wired shut like forcing it to open to make a word. I just seen this description of it and please stop trying to simplify being semi verbal when you aren't and are actually describing it incorrectly as just "losing speech" . Being semi verbal doesn't equal "just speech loss" . Even when I do talk I have a very specific way of talking , a bit hard to explain but a lot of pauses obvious struggling , I've seen a youtuber that is also semi verbal and I talk like them more or less
