communication cards are a useful tool | i use my AACs cause they help me communicate
this was is our first attempt at communication cards. we made 2 sets. the muse is our system persona Dream, but its very doodle like and basic art.
we need to make more, cause we want to be able to use low tech to no tech communication. we have 1 set of shopping related communication cards we bought long ago.
we have made some paper communication boards in a paper portfolio thing. we need more no tech communication boards to have in case. we need more ways to communicate incase we can't use our phone or tablet AAC and TTS apps. we need to collect. - The Dreamdrop System

Kiku has a few other communication boards that are scattered through the house and Kiku didn't remember to get them and Kiku also has a picture card binder, a visual schedule, and 1 tactile symbol (want to have a whole collection one day). There might also be some other things that Kiku can't think of right now.

If your response to Orthodox Jewish people facing an issue that is caused by or exacerbated by their religious practices and your response is to tell them that their practice is wrong instead of trying to help them navigate that issue within the bounds of their practice, you’re actually just an antisemite
This applies to other minority religions as well, especially our Muslim siblings

(TW FOR MENTIONS OF ABLEISM, INFANTILIZATION, MEDICAL PROCEDURES, AND HOSPITALS)
.
I love when people don't infantilize me, don't question my nonspeaking-ness, etc.
It's really upsetting that those are things that I have to love, and that those are rare things. Doing those things are the bare minimum and they need to be normalized. Treating nonspeaking and nonverbal (and semispeaking/semiverbal, intermittently speaking, etc. But right now I'm talking specifically about nonspeaking/nonverbal because that's what I am) people with basic respect doesnt make you a super special good person deserving of praise. It just means you aren't being ableist in that way.
Unfortunately we do currently live in a society where these things are uncommon though. And so these little bare minimum actions mean a lot to me. A lot.
Yesterday I was in the hospital, and as I was having a procedure done I was asked what my date of birth is. My device was sitting over on a table, because I was getting an MRI (so I couldn't have metal), so I couldn't tell them. The staff member asking the question wasn't confused and aggressive when I didnt say anything back, they continued to look kind and waited for me to respond. Then another staff member told them "Raymond is nonverbal" (I prefer nonspeaking but that was perfectly okay /gen), and they said "Oh, okay!" and then asked for my consent to grab my wrist to read my DOB on my hospital bracelet. I nodded, they said thank you, and then they looked at my bracelet.
That meant a lot to me. I was wearing a face mask, so they didn't know, but I was smiling so big.
I wish more people were like them.

I've seen some people talk about AAC devices in here but one thing confused me so...
Genuine question: Why people use these devices to type? Like, as far as I understood (read: 5 minutes Google search), these devices generate speech and are used when someone doesn't (or can't) talk, so why is it also used to type in some posts here?
Again, I'm genuinely confused (and curious) about it, not trying to be ableist.

I’m going to get to the requests in my inbox, but I’m running low on spoons lately, so I made these AAC tablet symbols since they take less energy.
There’s a lot of colors here, as well as a blank one if you want to customize your own. Feel free to request any other color or pattern from me as well :)
