Posting these even though they appeal to a very niche and specific audience because I know there's someone out there who will appreciate these. Anyways Yadriel LOVES Encanto and Maritza does not get it until he forces her to watch it and they both cry. Yadriel is literally Mirabel idc. I love the Encanto soundtrack especially that song thank you Lin Manuel Miranda (and Stephanie Beatriz ofc)
EDIT: AIDEN THOMAS LIKED THIS POST SO BASICALLY IM WINNING

Imagin what it was like for the other kids at school to see yadriel with Julian, like to them it's Julian "skipping most of school, starting shit and getting into fights, thought to be in a gang with his friends" diaz all of the sudden dating Yadriel "quiet goth trans kid, who lives in the cemetery and only hangs around and talk to his cousin and her friends" Velez flores.

Queer Fantasy Books Bracket: Round 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Book summaries below:
The Captive Prince series (Captive Prince, Kings Rising, assorted short stories) by C. S. Pacat
Damen is a warrior hero to his people, and the rightful heir to the throne of Akielos. But when his half brother seizes power, Damen is captured, stripped of his identity, and sent to serve the prince of an enemy nation as a pleasure slave. Beautiful, manipulative, and deadly, his new master, Prince Laurent, epitomizes the worst of the court at Vere. But in the lethal political web of the Veretian court, nothing is as it seems, and when Damen finds himself caught up in a play for the throne, he must work together with Laurent to survive and save his country. For Damen, there is just one rule: never, ever reveal his true identity. Because the one man Damen needs is the one man who has more reason to hate him than anyone else… Fantasy, romance, secondary world, adult, series
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
Yadriel has summoned a ghost, and now he can’t get rid of him. When his traditional Latinx family has problems accepting his gender, Yadriel becomes determined to prove himself a real brujo. With the help of his cousin and best friend Maritza, he performs the ritual himself, and then sets out to find the ghost of his murdered cousin and set it free. However, the ghost he summons is actually Julian Diaz, the school’s resident bad boy, and Julian is not about to go quietly into death. He’s determined to find out what happened and tie up some loose ends before he leaves. Left with no choice, Yadriel agrees to help Julian, so that they can both get what they want. But the longer Yadriel spends with Julian, the less he wants to let him leave. Fantasy, young adult, romance, paranormal

Hc, after the events on the book, Julian starts leaving his necklace with Yadriel a lot. Yads just thinks he's being forgetful but when he asks about it, Julian tells him it makes him feel safer, and that if anything were to happen to him again, Yadriel could get him back

When the book describes a scene exactly as if someone's walking down a church aisle to get married, but what's actually happening is:
someone is walking down the aisle of a church, and the person waiting for him is someone he loves, except instead of getting married they are never going to see each other again because the person walking down the aisle is about to release the spirit of the other person (who is a ghost he met and developed feelings for only after death) and send the spirit to the afterlife so that he won't become corrupted living as a spirit for too long, and both are a normal amount of devastated about it
...I just thought it was a cool inversion
(the book is called Cemetery Boys, by Aiden Thomas, and it's also a good book in general)

cemetery boys just permanently rewired my brain chemistry
this book might genuinely be my favorite book i’ve ever read; i don’t think i’ve ever had a book bring me such pure and intense joy, and i don’t think i have ever loved two characters more than i love yadriel and julian.
there’s just something about this book man, you can feel how much love was poured into it and BY GOD does it come through
as much of a ball of emotions as i am, i dont tend to cry at books, but i shed real tears at the end of cemetery boys
i also have never annotated a book just because before (i have for class or a gift a few times, but you get the idea) but i became a highlighting FIEND reading this book. the words in cemetery boys are just so much more than words telling a story, they are an art in themselves and every five paragraphs i found myself frantically highlighting and annotating them because i felt this need to preserve and remember them, because of how just incredible and meaningful they were
i think so much ya literature these days is so grotesquely pessimistic, and this idea that “happy endings are childish” is so prevalent in the literary world, and cemetery boys just spits in the face of all of that and gives its characters a beautiful, meaningful, optimistic ending, (with a queer, trans, latino protagonist at that) and it just fills me with so much love and joy to read.
anyway i love cemetery boys with every inch of my heart and everyone needs to read this book
