The first half of this episode was PEAK Bell’s Hells. Desperately trying to befriend a clerk so that they don’t have to murder her. Settling for bribery and blackmail. Then some good old fashioned breaking and entering, and also gardening roleplay? Laudna terrifying that one guard with unsettling presence just because. Orym fucking with Chetney just because. Chet continually setting off traps on himself. FCG immediately robbing the kitchen. Laudna putting the painting in the sink. Absolutely stellar moments.

netflix one piece live action feels a little like fanfic in that it makes sure it hits all the important notes but doesnt do all the work to make them hit which works in fic where the reader is supposed to bring all the emotional story investment from the original but doesnt work in a multi million adaptation that is supposed to be able to stand on its own or even serve as an intro to the series. it even does this in service to have more koby and helmeppo gay moments in this essay i w

#so dark out here #umm dead boy detectives review here we go! first two episodes were definitely the worst of the series. both are kinda weirdly paced and #the exposition is done poorly in places. overall from episode 3 onwards it gets much much better with pacing and show dont tell #do not understand for the life of me why they made crystal palace american #kassius nelson (<- crystals actress) was very good in places and kinda ehhh in others and im 90% the issue for most of the latter moments #was just that her american accent is not great. sorry they did that to you queen #dialogue was a bit dodge sometimes as well #stuff i liked now! the plot felt quite solid and i really enjoyed the monster of the week approach i think thats the perfect way to #do a dbd adaptation. was a bit annoyed they immediately went to america but port townsend was an interesting setting and all the #supernatural elements/characters fit in nicely #major props cos i feel like the show mostly pulled off the emotionally charged moments without getting corny and the dialogue was generally #good in those moments #particularly charles/crystals heart to heart in ep. 3 and like the entirety of episode 7 (<- ep 7 was brilliant)#overall very fun watch and i feel that the more irritating typical YA show garb was at least a bit offset by them being willing to get #quite dark in places #bit sad people are mostly posting about edwin becos charles was my favourite. has been entertaining watching americans scramble around #the cultural differences in the show #shaking my inbox like a maraca. if anyone wants to talk at me abt the show i will love you forever #.log

ngl i actually quite like the black rose arc

#yeahhh its probably one of the weaker arcs but even aside from how ppl call it ''pointless filler'' (not true)#i personally had a lot of fun with it #again wakaba flourishing is genuinely a fantastic episode all around but idk. i like it when side characters get to have the spotlight #even the eps that feel less connected still feel great for the meta of the overall show and its story #like how touga doesnt actually have anyone who is genuinely close to him- the only ones who could count are other duelists #so they have to REALLY stretch the line and have one of nanami's previously one dimensional lackeys take his sword #and while doing so they also show how nanami's friends arent even her friends. they just use each other and hate each other #so its also a great nanami episode #the one who i wish got more time is kanae but at the same time i do get why she faded into the background #bc akio's degraded her so much that she loses more and more of herself over time...#idk if ive ever said this but man. i like kanae. her story in the show is really fucked up and tragic too #i like to think after the finale that nanami or someone helped her leave akio and ohtori... even if shes fully under his control #so was anthy and she still got out. so i wanna think theres hope for kanae #echoed voice

One thing Being Human does really well is show the different ugly ways trauma can manifest - anger, sadness, becoming convinced of things that aren't true - and how conflicting traumas can result in actively hostile relationships

#don't click on the tags unless you want to read so so much #being human uk #i was thinking about this a lot especially wrt the first ep of season 2 where george is being SUCH an ass to nina #and it's a great example of like #they are both going through something extremely traumatic #like to the point where they cannot support one another at all #nina's whole perspective of the world has just changed and she may now be a monster #meanwhile george has killed someone - the thing he's feared most since the beginning - and they didn't show it but #presumably he would have woken up covered in herrick's viscera #like those are two insane things to process no matter who you are #and annie and mitchell cannot help them so they're both just lashing out at each other wondering why no one cares #george and nina have to relive the trauma of being infected every month when they change and go through that painful process #mitchell relives the trauma of being turned every time he feeds or sees the victim of a different vampire #all three of them have to be reminded they are monsters and are a danger to everyone around them #including themselves #and annie relives her trauma every goddam day living in that house #and every time she sees owen #whether she realizes it or not #and she tries to remedy this by feeling needed #and that's another thing about the show!!#how all of them show specific responses to trauma #george and nina react with fear and intense anger #mitchell reacts with a stand-in for addiction - seeking substances or trying desperately to avoid those substances #annie reacts with memory loss and the desire to be needed #and all four of them react by trying to have a normal life while being convinced that they can never have one #and so much more!!#the scene in the second episode where tully tries to kill himself and george just walks away?#that is not normal!!#george is so convinced of being a monster that he will behave like a monster #yes he goes back for him but that initial response is so indicative of what the trauma has done to him so early into the show
