NO GRATITUDE JOURNAL ENTRY (8/14/24)
My allergies/cold have gotten the better of me, and I spent all day yesterday basically sleeping. I felt too miserable to write in my gratitude journal.
I guess I could say that I was grateful to have that time to rest and very grateful for a nice big bed that I could sleep in. I'm a very restless sleeper, even when I'm NOT sick, so it was nice to have all that extra room.
I'm also grateful for audiobooks. I didn't feel in the mood for doing any actual reading, so the audiobook was a lifesaver.

OK I've said it before and now that I'm sick I'll say it again:
DRINK SWEET TEA WITH LEMON IF YOUR THROAT HURTS
Not to be southern on main but this shit feels like a magic elixir on a sore throat. It's basically the cold version of hot tea with lemon and honey.
Hot tea is still good, but if your throat hurts that much DRINK COLD THINGS. They will numb your throat!! This is great especially before eating! The sugar in the tea makes it slightly thicker and more viscous so it coats your throat too! SERIOUSLY JUST TRY IT

Using Natural Remedies to Treat Your Dog's Allergies
As pet owners, we want our furry companions to be happy and healthy. However, just like humans, dogs can suffer from allergies that can cause discomfort and distress. Allergies in dogs can manifest in various ways, such as itchy skin, sneezing, and digestive issues. While there are many pharmaceutical options available to treat these allergies, some pet owners prefer to use natural remedies for their beloved canines. Natural remedies have gained popularity in recent years, as they are often seen as a safer and more holistic approach to treating health issues. In this article, we will delve into the world of natural remedies and explore how they can be used to effectively treat your dog's allergies. From herbs and essential oils to dietary changes and supplements, we will discuss the different options available and their potential benefits. We will also address the importance of consulting with a veterinarian before trying any natural remedies on your dog, as well as potential risks and limitations. So, if you are looking for a more natural and gentle way to alleviate your dog's allergies, keep reading to discover the wonders of using natural remedies for our canine companions.
1. Introduction to natural allergy remedies
With the rise of allergies in both humans and pets, many people are seeking natural alternatives to traditional medication. When it comes to treating your dog's allergies, there are a variety of natural remedies that can provide relief and improve their overall health. However, it's crucial to approach these remedies with caution and to always consult with your veterinarian before starting any new treatment plan. In this article, we will explore some of the most commonly used natural remedies for dog allergies and their potential benefits and risks. By understanding the options available, you can make an informed decision about what is best for your furry friend's well-being.
2. Identifying common dog allergies
While there are many potential natural remedies for dog allergies, it is important to first identify the specific allergens that are causing your dog's symptoms. Common allergens for dogs include pollen, dust, mold, and certain foods. Your veterinarian can conduct allergy tests to determine which substances your dog is reacting to and create a treatment plan tailored to their needs. It is also important to note that some natural remedies, such as essential oils, may still cause allergic reactions in dogs and should be used with caution. Always consult your veterinarian before trying any new treatment, including natural remedies, for your dog's allergies.
3. The benefits of natural remedies
In addition to consulting with a veterinarian and identifying specific allergens, using natural remedies to treat your dog's allergies can provide numerous benefits. These remedies are often gentle and have minimal side effects, making them a safer option for your furry friend compared to traditional medications. They also often target the root cause of the allergy rather than just masking symptoms, resulting in more long-term relief. Furthermore, natural remedies can often be more cost-effective than prescription medications and can be easily integrated into your dog's daily routine. With the right approach and guidance from a trusted veterinarian, natural remedies can be a valuable tool in managing your dog's allergies.
4. Incorporating omega-3 fatty acids
One natural remedy that has shown promise for treating dog allergies is incorporating omega-3 fatty acids into their diet. These fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the severity of allergic reactions in dogs. They can also improve the overall health of your dog's skin and coat, which may be affected by allergies. Sources of omega-3 fatty acids include fish oil, flaxseed, and chia seeds. However, it is important to consult with a vet before adding any supplements to your dog's diet to ensure proper dosing and monitoring of potential side effects.
5. Soothe your dog's itchy skin.
Additionally, there are several natural remedies that can help soothe your dog's itchy skin caused by allergies. One option is to give your dog a bath with a gentle, hypoallergenic shampoo. This can help remove any allergens from their fur and provide relief from itching. You can also try using a natural, topical solution such as oatmeal or aloe vera to soothe the irritated skin. Adding a teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar to your dog's water bowl can also help balance their pH levels and reduce allergic reactions. However, it is important to consult with your veterinarian before trying any new remedies, as they can recommend the best course of action for your dog's specific needs. With proper care and attention, your dog's itchy skin caused by allergies can be effectively managed using natural remedies.
6. herbal supplements for allergy relief.
When it comes to finding relief for your dog's allergies, herbal supplements may also be worth considering. These supplements are derived from plants and can be a natural and holistic approach to managing your dog's symptoms. Some popular herbal supplements for allergy relief include nettle, butterbur, and quercetin. These supplements are believed to have anti-inflammatory properties and can support your dog's immune system. As always, it is important to consult with a veterinarian before adding any new supplements to your dog's diet to ensure they are safe and effective for your specific dog's needs.
7. Using apple cider vinegar
Another natural remedy that has gained popularity in recent years is apple cider vinegar. While there is limited scientific evidence to support its use for allergies in dogs, many pet owners swear by its effectiveness. Apple cider vinegar is believed to have antibacterial and antifungal properties, which can help with skin allergies and infections. It can also be added to a dog's food to aid in digestion and boost the immune system. However, it is important to dilute it with water before using it on a dog's skin, as it can be too harsh in its pure form. As with any natural remedy, it is best to consult with a veterinarian before using apple cider vinegar on your dog.
8. The power of local honey
Another natural remedy that has gained attention for its potential allergy-fighting properties is local honey. The idea behind this remedy is that consuming honey made from local pollen can desensitize a dog's immune system to the allergens in the environment. While there is no scientific evidence to support this claim, many dog owners have reported positive results after giving their dogs small amounts of local honey regularly. However, it is important to note that honey should not be given to dogs with diabetes or other health conditions that require a restricted diet. As always, consulting with a veterinarian before trying any new remedies is recommended.
9. Managing allergies with probiotics
Another natural remedy that has gained popularity for managing allergies in dogs is probiotics. These live microorganisms are known to promote a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut, which can improve overall immune function. Studies have shown that probiotics can also reduce the severity of allergic reactions in dogs, making them a potential solution for those with allergies. However, it is important to consult with a veterinarian before giving probiotics to your dog, as the proper dosage and type of probiotic may vary depending on their individual needs. Additionally, probiotics should be used in conjunction with other allergy management methods, such as avoiding trigger foods and keeping the environment clean, for the best results.
10. Consult a veterinarian for guidance.
Seeking guidance from a veterinarian is crucial when it comes to using natural remedies to treat your dog's allergies. While probiotics may be beneficial for some dogs, they may not be suitable for all and could potentially worsen your dog's condition if not used correctly. A veterinarian can provide personalized recommendations based on your dog's specific needs and health history. They can also help monitor your dog's progress and make adjustments to the treatment plan as needed. Consulting with a professional can ensure the safe and effective use of natural remedies in managing your dog's allergies.
In conclusion, while natural remedies can be a helpful and holistic approach to treating your dog's allergies, it is important to always consult with a veterinarian before making any changes to your pet's diet or medication. Each dog's allergies may be different and require a specific treatment plan. By working with a professional and considering natural remedies as a complementary approach, you can provide your furry friend with the best care possible for their allergies. Remember to always monitor your dog's reactions and consult with your vet for any concerns. With the right care and attention, your dog can find relief from their allergies and live a happy and healthy life.
FAQ
1. What are some natural remedies that can help alleviate my dog's allergies?
Some natural remedies that may help alleviate a dog's allergies include regularly bathing them with hypoallergenic shampoo, using a diluted apple cider vinegar rinse to soothe itchy skin, providing a balanced and nutritious diet, adding omega-3 fatty acids to their food, using chamomile or green tea compresses to reduce inflammation, and incorporating natural antihistamines such as quercetin or nettle into their diet. However, it is important to consult with a veterinarian before trying any natural remedies to ensure they are safe and appropriate for your dog's specific allergies and health conditions.
2. Are there any specific herbs or supplements that are effective in treating dog allergies?
Yes, there are several herbs and supplements that are believed to be effective in treating dog allergies. Some commonly recommended options include nettle leaf, licorice root, quercetin, omega-3 fatty acids, and probiotics. These natural remedies are thought to help reduce inflammation, strengthen the immune system, and alleviate symptoms such as itching and irritation. However, it is important to consult with a veterinarian before introducing any new herbs or supplements to your dog's diet, as individual allergies and sensitivities can vary. Additionally, these remedies should not be used as a substitute for proper diagnosis and treatment by a professional.
3. How can I determine if my dog's allergies are caused by food or environmental factors, and what natural remedies can be used for each?
To determine if your dog's allergies are caused by food or environmental factors, you can start by keeping a detailed record of their symptoms and potential triggers. If the symptoms are consistent throughout the year, it's likely an environmental allergy, while if they occur after eating certain foods, it could be a food allergy. To confirm the cause, you can work with your veterinarian to perform an elimination diet or allergy testing. For environmental allergies, natural remedies such as regular bathing, hypoallergenic bedding, and minimizing exposure to triggers can help. For food allergies, switching to a limited-ingredient or hypoallergenic diet or introducing natural anti-inflammatory supplements like fish oil can provide relief.
4. Are there any potential risks or side effects associated with using natural remedies to treat dog allergies?
While natural remedies for dog allergies may seem safer than conventional treatments, there are still potential risks and side effects to consider. Some natural remedies, such as certain herbs or essential oils, can be toxic to dogs if ingested or applied incorrectly. Additionally, the effectiveness of natural remedies may vary, and they may not provide sufficient relief for severe allergies. It is important to consult with a veterinarian before using any natural remedies to ensure they are safe and appropriate for your dog's specific condition.
5. Can natural remedies completely replace traditional medication for treating dog allergies, or should they be used in conjunction with veterinary care?
Natural remedies can provide some relief for dog allergies, but they should not replace traditional medication or veterinary care. While natural remedies like dietary changes, supplements, and herbal treatments may help alleviate symptoms, they may not address the underlying cause or provide sufficient relief for more severe cases. Veterinary care is crucial to accurately diagnose and manage allergies, prescribe appropriate medications, and monitor the dog's overall health. A combination of natural remedies and veterinary care can provide the best outcome for treating dog allergies and ensuring the well-being of the animal.

My dog, more accurately said as my lil baby girl, has very bad skin allergies. She gets shots, but sadly everything costs money. It makes me feel like a bad dog mommy, so when money is low and her skin problems flair up, these are some great natural remedies to use.
All dogs are different and so are skin problems, I am just posting this for people who understand their babies skin problem and are aiming to hopefully give them some natural relief.

☆// take care of you (MDNI, 18+)
Tumblr media
info! 141 + keegan + könig / fluff, established relationship (?) + gender neutral reader
cw! reader is sick (nothing gross at all, you're just not well)
prompt! you're ill and the boys insist on taking care of you
notes! thought i was dealing with some really gnarly allergies. went to urgent care and it turns out that i have an upper respiratory infection rip. so i'm writing this as copium, enjoy :]
Tumblr media
PRICE :
price is all over it the second you say something about not feeling 100%. only really worries about getting sick himself as an afterthought, then scraps the thought as a whole when he thinks about how whatever he's doing is making you feel better. cooks you chicken soup, makes sure you stay in bed, prepares tea for you and gathers stuff for you to do so that you don't get too bored while you're giving your body time to rest. if you're clingy when you're sick (like me), he's cuddling you. again, doesn't really care about getting sick until he has time to think about the risk afterwards.
GAZ :
kyle's mostly clingy, not completely sure of how to handle you being sick. you're a tank! you're not supposed to get sick. so when you say that you're feeling a little under the weather, he's kind of at a loss. he stays by your side the entire time that you're feeling sick, petting your hair and kissing your forehead. the likelihood of him getting sick is ridiculously high and he knows that, if he does, he'll probably get his ass kicked for it, but he figures that he can deal with it if it means that you're feeling even a little bit better. follows you around the house to make sure that you're okay. he'll even sit in the bathroom while you're taking a shower, rambling nonsense at you. if you ask him to go pick up something from the store for you or make you something to eat, he definitely will, it's just not his first thought when he sees you all uncomfortable like that.
SOAP :
this one has a much better idea of what to do when you're not feeling super well. even if it's just a cold or some really gnarly allergies, johnny would be the one to insist on taking you to the doctor just to make sure. he just worries a lot. but once you get out of that appointment, he drops you off at home and ushers you into the shower, making sure you have something nice and cozy to wear once you get out. while you're doing that, he'll run to the store to pick up whatever meds you were prescribed and anything else that might help -- tea, cough drops, soup, snacks. once he gets back, he gets you into bed and queues up all of your favorite movies, tv shows, and/or comfort videos (a little extra incentive to keep you in bed and resting). he'll stay in bed with you, waiting on your every need to try and get you back on your feet as soon as possible.
GHOST :
i feel like he gets a little bit awkward when you get sick. he views you very similarly to the way gaz does. you're indestructible in his eyes and it simply doesn't compute that you would be taken down for a week or so by something as simple as a bad cold. but he's on it once he gets over the what the hell is happening to them phase. it's maximum efficiency with this guy. along with having timers on his phone so that neither of you forget when to take your medicine, he's also making you try every reasonable home remedy to try to get you better as quickly as possible. makes you sit in a hot bath, brings you tea and soup, rubs vicks on the end of your nose to try and clear up your congestion. he almost has you on a schedule with all he's doing to try to get you feeling better. it's honestly really adorable how hard he's trying.
KEEGAN :
keegan doesn't really like giving you special treatment just because you're his partner, but he just can't stand to see how uncomfortable and in pain you are when you're sick. if you're in the same line of work as him and you're feeling a little too foggy to communicate with your superiors properly, he's down to track down your higher-ups and relay any messages for you. he's also pretty good at the soup and the tea and all of the home remedy stuff. kind of tries to take care of it at home, but if it's any worse than a cold he's dragging you straight to the doctor's office. another one that has you basically stuck to his side while he takes care of you. not ridiculously affectionate, but he will definitely let you hang all over him if that gives you any kind of comfort. will stay in bed with you while you lean against his side, hugging him around his middle as he plays with your hair and draws patterns into your skin. super adamant about making sure you rest.
KÖNIG :
like keegan but softer almost. you're usually pretty capable of sucking it up and getting through injuries and allergies and the like, so when some kind of illness gets you down, he worries. doesn't like the idea of forcing you to go to the doctor's so he tries his best to take care of it at home. leans pretty heavily on home remedies -- the good ol' fluids and rest regimen. buys you packs and packs of your favorite gatorade flavor and that chicken noodle soup mix that comes in the little envelope. keeps you in bed and has the wet rag on your forehead if he's worrying about you getting feverish. he doesn't like the idea of making you leave the house, so if it seems that bad he'll make you do one of those virtual urgent care visits. otherwise, your ass is staying in bed. he turns your whole bedroom into a recovery zone with vicks, tissue boxes, a lil snack tray set up on your bedside table, humidifier, all of your favorite movies. literally anything you could possibly need, he has it for you. mans is serious about making sure you get better.

John Price is a natural leader.
Always taking the lead on the field and off duty. Always confident, self-assured in his abilities to guide himself and others through difficult situations with ease.
He's always so worried about his team - slipping in some antihistamines in Gaz's pockets whenever his dust allergies kick in and make his sneezes ring out on base at ungodly hours, making sure Johnny doesn't end up recklessly in another communal mess 'fight'', and checking up on Simon after a rough mission drains all life out of his blue eyes, leaving him dull and mute from the trauma of surviving another war.
He never forgets to wish his teammates birthday, always tries his best to push them to take extra leaves so they can visit family and rest after an arduous mission, and even indulges in their frivolous past times, if only to make time pass by easier.
He always remembers to send Kate and her wife flowers as a 'thank you' for hosting him for dinner, never forgets to call Laswell and congratulate her on successful jobs, and makes sure to send the finest bottle of wine for letting some of his 'rebellious actions' go under the radar.
So when he finally comes down with the seasonal flu, you take it upon yourself to reciprocate the generosity he graces everyone with - not letting the man leave the warm, soft bed as you tend to every need of his throughout the day.
"Sweetheart, get back to bed. I'll be fine", John tells you but his stuffy nose makes his voice sound more nasally than usual.
You tut at him, recalling his high temperature, "I cannot laze around while you're suffering and need me, John. Now let me take care of you, and put the cold compress on."
"Yes ma'am."
You run around, from room to room - arranging things and making sure to check in on your dear fiance to make sure he's not in pain while you prepare some home remedies for him.
A herbal mixture you make him drink for his sore throat, which Price downs with a small wince; changing his cold compress with a new one so he can rest comfortably. Turning down the lights so that his eyes don't smart anymore, and he can actually take a nap around noon while you work on lunch - chicken noodle soup and warm porridge that can warm him up from inside and are easy on the stomach - recalling every little trick your Mum did whenever you got sick.
And when you finally come back in the room to find John sleeping, you take a moment to breathe calmly as you slowly admire him. His flushed cheeks, freshly-trimmed mutton chops, his freckle on his nose and how his nose scrunches up while he's deep in his sleep, and how oddly comforting it is - to have him in your home, to see him resting after months of separation and knowing that he possibly hasn't slept this peacefully in ages.
"Take a picture, darling. It'll last ya longer", calls out a raspy voice, followed by a dry chuckle.
Felling your ears warm up at being caught by the very object of your attention, you promptly deflect, "Oh, shut it, you big dork. Lunch's ready, if you'd like to have it."
"With you?" John asks rhetorically, with a small fond smile on his face.
"Always."

Clone wars headcanons about everything and nothing
Ahsoka has a decent amount of allergies but only a handful are actually life-threatening and no matter how much she tells Anakin that it never stops him from treating them all the same
And by treating them all the same I mean he’s slapped some snacks out of her hands because he knew she was slightly allergic to it
In his defense the clones are really bad at keeping track of her allergies and because of that they have fed her a couple of things that were lethal to her and ever since then Anakin’s never really trusted them with food
Also in his defense Ahsoka once ate something she was highly allergic to on a dare (the poor clone didn’t know she was allergic) and all she did to remedy the situation was hand said poor clone her EpiPen before passing out
Unfortunately the clone didn’t know how to use the EpiPen so Ahsoka ended up passing out and Anakin and Rex had to rush her off to the med bay because they didn’t know how to use the EpiPen either
Because of this incident the clones weren’t allowed to give Ahsoka food and there were a couple of signs that said “blue to the sky orange to the thigh” around the ship
I feel like everyone in Clone Wars is simultaneously touch-starved and tactile which is a very fun mix especially when I think about Ahsoka and everyone else because I like to think whenever Ahsoka asks for a hug 9.5/10 she gets one
Master Plo is the most used to this cause Ahsoka’s been like this since she was a child and he’ll admit he’s spoiled her with hugs
If you were to ask her what his hugs feel like she would say they feel like childhood or that feeling you get when you smell something that you could only find in your home when you were a kid
Obi-Wan is an interesting can of worms because he’s as tactile and touch-starved as the rest of them but he’s also incredibly touch-adverse which results in him declining hugs 5/10 because he just can't fathom touching someone in that moment
But when he does give Ahsoka a hug she’ll say there’s nothing like it and she would often describe it as a breath of fresh air and very soothing on stressful days
Rex is most likely it give Ahsoka a hug bro is simply the hugger™ and she would describe his hugs as comforting if not a little awkward but grounding none the less kind of like hugging a weighted blanket just out of the drier
She doesn’t get to see Padme nearly as often as she would like which means she tries to get a hug whenever she can and Padme will never decline her hugs if anything she initiates most of them
Ahsoka doesn’t remember her mom or her hugs well but if she had to give an example of what a hug from her mom felt like she would say Padme’s
Anakin honestly isn’t comfortable with touching people he doesn’t know well but when he does feel comfortable with someone he’s clingy
Ahsoka will never admit this half cause it’s embarrassing and half because she fears it would hurt the other’s feelings but Anakin’s hugs are easily her favorite something about the all-encompassing hug makes her feel safe and secure like nothing else
But the funny thing is that sometimes he doesn’t really have the energy to hug Ahsoka so he’ll just put all of his dead weight on her which usually results in one of two reactions from her
one. Is usually her saying “Hug me like you love me” or something along those lines to which he will squeeze the everloving force out of her or two. “Hug me like a normal person” which usually gets the smartass response of “Who said I was a normal person”
So it’s pretty obvious that Anakin and Ahsoka have their bigger competitions but they’ve also got little ones like who can make the funnier face when Obi-Wan is trying to do his work which normally ends with the duo hunched over laughing and Obi-Wan finding another place to work
The: “Who can accurately make the noises Obi-Wan makes while stretching” challenge which just usually results in the clones worriedly checking in on them cause it sounds like they’re in pain
The: “Who can eat more ice cream” challenge always ends with Anakin regretting his life choices and Ahsoka doing the dishes because she feels bad
Long story short they’ve got a lot of challenges cause they’re competitive little weirdos but the funniest part is they rarely keep score of who the winner is so they’re in an endless cycle of useless competitions
Obi-Wan has slowly collected mugs for everyone he’s close with and they have a nice little home in his otherwise empty mug cupboard
Anakin and Padme have matching from Naboo because Obi-Wan took them shopping when they were pretty young
Padme can’t drink tea with them as often as she would like but when she can schedule a small tea break Anakin makes sure to smuggle all their mugs out of Obi-Wan’s kitchen
Ahsoka’s mug is possibly one of Obi-Wan's favorites it’s a good size and practical but’s also got nice intricate color-changing details because they both thought it looked cool
Cody and Obi-Wan’s mugs are pretty similar but their main difference is the childlike handwriting on the bottom of one that says “to: Obi from: Ani”
Rex doesn’t get a mug until later and it’s the most unconventional and inconvenient mug in all of creation the poor dude has to hold it from the sides because his hands don’t fit in the handle
And its design pisses Obi-Wan off every time he sees it the only thing that’s stopping him from smashing it into hundreds of little pieces is that Rex picked it so in the cupboard it stays
Sometimes the group forgets that Ahsoka isn’t human which leads to very funny circumstances
Like Rex losing a decent amount of credits trying to call Ahsoka’s “bluff” of being able to bench twice his weight
Or at the fact that Obi-Wan was once hiding from Ahsoka and Anakin because he didn’t want the duo to see the extent of his injuries from a solo mission
But he forgot that Ahsoka could smell and hear better than the average being so she was able to track him down pretty fast (she was also freaked out cause she could hear his erratic heartbeat and smell the blood so that wasn’t a pleasant experience for her)
Or the number of times when she’s eaten an unholy amount of food just for Anakin to wake up at 3 am to find her scavenging for more cause she’s still hungry
And let me tell you seeing some small hunched-over little creature with reflective eyes at that time of night would make even the chosen one screech like a banshee
