Zukka Week: Day 1 - Modern AU/Family Drama

I decided to use the “Modern AU” prompt and turn it into a Zukka Teachers au!

In this AU Sokka and Zuko are both fairly young teachers at a high school. Neither of them have worked there for very long, but their approach to teaching at a new school is very different: Sokka was very excited to meet his new coworkers and try to forge connections with everyone around. Zuko on the other hand, definitely kept to himself. He got to the building earlier then pretty much every sane teacher (including but not limited to Sokka who wakes up at the latest possible minute before he is officially late). He doesn’t really leave his room during lunch, and stays late after the school day ends to finish grading before he goes home. For all these reasons, Zuko is one of the only teachers in the building that Sokka hadn’t met yet.

One morning, Zuko’s just having a bad day and ends up getting to the school a lot later then he typically does, and in his rush he forgot to shut his door behind him like he typically does. Sokka, who is always in a rush, is also having a bad morning and is scowering the building for a working printer to use before his first class starts (the one by his classroom that he would usually use is now broken). Fun fact: Zuko’s classroom is right next to a room with a printer, so he always keeps his door shut to avoid chit chat from passerbys.

Sokka is in a rush and isn’t paying much attention, so he sees a sign that says “printer” and an open door and bursts in without much thought. When Sokka bursts into zuko’s room, thinking it’s the printer room, he is shocked to see…a person he hasn’t met before? They’re both equally startled by the interaction, Sokka because he’s quickly realizing that this is not in fact the printer room and almost dying from embarrassment, and Zuko because he’s wondering “who the fuck just burst into my room and why are you here??”. Sokka apologizes profusely for rudely bursting in and tries to explain his morning and how he was looking for the printer and oh my god this might be the most unorganized person Zuko has ever met. Zuko let’s him know that the printer is next door, and assumes that was the end of it….until Sokka came back to let him know it was out of paper, and to ask for a few sheets. Zuko gives it to him, and while he’s looking for his paper they finally get the chance to introduce themselves. Sokka jokes around a bit, and Zuko finds himself laughing at someone who isn’t Uncle for the first time in a while. He also finds himself - to his own suprize - a little bummed when Sokka has to go back to his room, and hoping that the chaotic teacher comes back sometime, because he was actually pretty sweet (and maybe a little cute).

Sokka was also left thinking about their morning interaction for the rest of the day, and if a slight blush painted his cheeks when he did…well that’s nobody’s business but his own.

A little over a week later, Sokka’s in need of a printer again. He considers making the walk over to Zuko’s printer (when did it become Zuko’s printer and not just the printer in the East wing??) but doesn’t want to seem weird or make Zuko uncomfortable…he decides to go anyway. When he gets there, to his disappointment, Zuko’s door is shut. But he goes on to use the printer anyway, and is a little confused when he turns to leave and sees that Zuko’s door is now open? (He totally didn’t see Sokka walk by and open it up in hopes that Sokka would pop in on his way out no definitely not) Either way, Sokka does stop in before leaving, and they talk until the bell rings. If becomes sort of a routine: Sokka goes to the printer by Zuko’s room, Zuko opens his door, and they talk. Before long it becomes their favorite part of the day, and Sokka starts finding other reasons to stop by, then comes in with no reason at all.

It takes a while, but eventually Sokka works up the courage to ask Zuko out… and of course he says yes

*** Bonus: once they get together they become the teachers that are always in and out of each other’s rooms, and as a response there are 2 distinct groups when it comes to how students perceive it:

“wow they’re such close friends…cringe.”

and, “oh my god they’re totally gay”

It’s always one or the other. Those who think they’re gay have a whole conspiracy theory going with a PowerPoint and everything. At one point, someone bumps into them together outside of school and the whole conspiracy gets even BIGGER ***

zukka storm chasers au WHEN?

despite being one of the youngest of the friend group, aang starts driving a lotta them the second he gets his permit (not even his License). sokkas fine w it bc katara always takes their family’s car before he can call it. toph can’t drive bc she’s blind and got in too many fights with katara for giving her the wrong directions so she’s been exiled to aang’s car. zuko got caught speeding too often so driving w aang is “safer”. suki’s just there for fun :). katara drives yue and Sometimes suki to school

azula convinces zuko that there are scratch and sniff stickers on the bottom of the pool. he falls for it every time and keeps almost drowning

real story a couple weeks ago i had a couple friends over and one of my friends’ (let’s call him J) older brother (let’s call him R) came to pick J up but R & i are buddies so the four of us stood in my driveway at midnight while R very seriously told us about his “twin flame”. i was completely entranced. anyway R is yue and i’m sokka and my friends are katara & aang

aang and sokka have a youtube channel. there are a lotta parkour stunts on it. sometimes they get zuko to join but most of the time they just use him as an unwilling prop

after the hex bugs incident azula releases live bugs into zuko’s room

first time sokka even steps onto suki’s skateboard he immediately gets a concussion. this is based off of my brother & his very cool girlfriend

sokka once brought a rotisserie chicken into math class and started offering it to ppl. also based off of a true story

ty lee has light up skechers

if you ask katara for a piece of gum during class she pulls out several packs of different flavors for options

at my school we have the senior high tops and the senior cafe which are reserved eating areas for seniors and the senior cafe has a ping pong table and couches and all that. well anyway azula, mai, & ty lee have been sitting at the senior high tops & senior cafe since they were sophomores and everybody’s been too afraid to tell them to move (they sat there both as a power move And to annoy zuko, an actual senior)

Everyone goes all out during spirit week but no one goes as hard as suki. her back must hurt from carrying 70s Day. sokka gave her a run for her money on Dads on Vacation Day but then she pulled out the flip flops that have bottle openers on the bottom and he was done for

mai has a tamagotchi or whatever

the gaang walked to the local convenience store after school everyday until toph got them banned. no one knows what she did to get them banned tho

i’m forcing the american pickers au into this. zuko and sokka frequently go on road trips and check out yard sales and stuff like that. mostly to find cool weapons but sometimes sokka finds a cool little trinket or geeks out over an obscure invention or whatever and zuko’s just 🥰 iroh often tags along as well but zuko has to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn’t buy the most unnecessary things

teo also features on sokka and aang’s channel. he and sokka have their own segment to explain the science behind different parkour tricks or to introduce different homemade inventions that will supposedly help said parkour tricks (they force zuko to test them out for them)

after that jet packs are no longer allowed on school property

katara & sokka team up to make posters for all the school’s clubs. she uses her beautiful handwriting and sokka provides fun lil drawings :D

I really think it would be funny for a college AU of zukka being begrudging dormmates, like they both assume the other will hate them for whatever reason, so they preemptively act cold to each other (even tho they both think the other is actually rlly cool and wish they could be friends) just like a, light enemies to eventual friends to lovers super slow burn college au, so good

also, to follow up with the dormmate au i like to think that sokka thinks zuko is a snitch, idk why but reasons, and he is paranoid that he will tell the RA that he as weed/drinks or even something more dumb like a fucking toaster oven. So a really good turning point would be the RA coming in and sokka being like "here's the assholes chance to get me in trouble" but zuko covers for him? and sokka thinks "oh hey, maybe this dude isn't that bad" (2)

sorry to spam you, i just really like college au's and a real slow burn, like classic miscommunication about each other's character which leads to hating for no reason and eventually admitting to each other you were both being dumb. Like Pride and Prejudice but with frat parties and dumb 18 year olds on their own for the first time (3)

Sokka walks into his dorm and sees this guy, all dressed up in a nice suit and scowling.

And okay maybe it was a bad idea to live in the dorms.

He attempts a little small talk because he’s gotta know his dormmate’s name right?

He finds out his name is Zuko and he’s a business major. He’s also kinda hot, but he’s a jerk so that’s not acceptable.

He does seem a little nicer when he’s not stressed out by schoolwork or the Karens at his uncle’s teashop.

Zuko has to leave for some kind of family emergency as soon as midterms are over, Sokka is a little concerned because he’s been gone for over a week.

Zuko comes back a few weeks later and he’s different. More laid back and happier.

“Oh yeah, I changed my major to Literature. And I’m kicked out of the family now. Never better.”

“Um what the fuck?�� 

Sokka realized that maybe this guy was just a jerk because he’d been raised that way.

He invited Aang and Katara over to play Mario Cart. They brought Toph, who gave him hundreds of Spanish Kinder Surprise eggs for some reason. He stuffed them in his minifridge (which he should not have in the dorm).

Zuko opened the fridge the next day because Sokka had been letting him put some soft drinks in there but instead lots of Kinder eggs fell out and he was very surprised.

Kinder Surprise eggs are illegal in the U.S. so Zuko has no idea how they got there.

Sokka comes back after classes and sees a couple eggs on the floor and he’s like ‘He better not snitch on me. Then the minifridge, microwave, and eggs go away’

Zuko doesn’t snitch? He just asks to eat some of the Kinder eggs.

Sokka lets him and finds out that Zuko loves chocolate. He keeps chocolate in the fridge a lot more.

They start watching movies in the dorm with the Gaang and eating lots of Kinder eggs to get rid of the evidence.

Zuko and Sokka watched The Princess Bride alone and Zuko started crying. Sokka is like ‘wow this guy is actually really sweet and I want to hug him’

Sokka gets a drink at Zuko’s uncle’s teashop once. Zuko writes on it “Do you want to go on an actual date with me and not just eat chocolate?”

Sokka says yes.

He takes Zuko home to meet his family during holiday break.

They finish their degrees and get an apartment together and eventually get married.

1. How long ago did you start reading fanfiction? Writing fanfiction?

The first fanfiction i read was for The Lunar Chronicles when I was like 11?? and it was 100% on accident and it scarred me because it was a hardcore porn one with a period kink and i was like WHAT IS THIS??? OH MY GOD???? LMAOOOOO i didn’t pick it back up until i was 13-14 and really got into the Fairy Tail fandom. I still reread my favorites on ff.net cause i love them. 

As for writing, I wrote a horrible, terrible x-men fanfiction when I was twelve. (my friend still brings it up and REFUSES to delete it so it still gets comments and views, that shit HAUNTS ME ELE.) then tried again for Fairy Tail, posted like two chapters before taking it down cause i wasn’t really feeling it. 5. What are your fanfic pet peeves? Do they have a huge effect on whether or not you decide to read something?

Omniscient third person. I don’t like it. Like I can understand that it can be a little hard to stay in one person’s perspective but, in my opinion, if you can, it shows how disciplined you are as a writer. Plus, i just get so confused when I go from A’s thoughts to suddenly what B is thinking about A. 

When writers use ‘ ‘ instead of “ “. When writers put thoughts in ‘ ‘ instead of just italicizing them. It’s small things but like they just bother me sO MUCH. most of the time i can ignore it and try to enjoy but other times i just dip. 

9. Tag 3 fic writers you think are underrated/unknown in the fandom/fanfiction community.

@espoir-et-reves !!!!! THEIR SHISAKU FICS ARE SO SO SO SO SO GOOD. And they have a warring states one going on THAT I AM SO OBSESSED WITH. 

@writer168 idk if they’re really “underrated” but THEY HAVE SUCH GREAT FICS ON AO3. Like theres an AU with sakura, kiba, and shino that i reread constantly because it just. is. so. fucking. GOOD. and they posted a new one that i’m YELLING about. 

@eggtoasties okay they only have 2 in the naruto fandom (one shisaku which is still ongoing) BUT THEIR WRITING STYLE IS SO NICE?? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. I still go back and reread their shikasaku one cause UGH i can’t get enough. I love it. 

10. What’s your favorite fandom, pairing, or character to read fic for?

Fandoms: Naruto, Soul Eater, The Old Guard, ATLA

Parings: KakaSaku/ShikaSaku/ShiSaku/MultiSaku, SoMa, Joe X Nicky, Zukka

Character: SAKURA. I will read anything with Sakura as the main character and her being a fuckin badass or becoming a badass. I love her.

17. How obsessively do you sit and stare at your fic after you’ve just posted and wait for feedback?

aha.. haha.. well. I check my email like three times an hour. its the first thing i check in the mornings too. I’m literally a whore for praise and literally eat up feedback like its going out of style. I also reread a lot of my stuff because i make so many mistakes and spelling errors, or the spacing is weird oR SOMETHING. plus, literally any and all comments make my day, i go back and reread them cause they just make me feel so tingly and warm like “wow. this person enjoyed the fic/my writing enough to tell me. thats HUGE!”

23. What’s your absolute favorite trope to write?

Angry, feral, bloodied, morally gray women. They aren’t bad guys, they’re probably the good guy, but that doesn’t mean they cant be fucking raging at the world with raw knuckles and blood on their teeth. I just love an angry woman who struggles with her emotions and just has so much inner conflict but that doesn’t take away from her character or badassery, it adds to it. 

24. What’s a trope that you’d like to never hear about as long as you live, let alone write?

The fake dating or miscommunication troupe. LIKE GUYS JUST TALK. AND TELL EACH OTHER OMFG. the entire like obliviousness of “nah they dont like me” while the They holds their hand and kisses their cheek. MOFO WHAT. it makes me so impatient and like mad HAAHHAHA. its probably because i’m a pretty confrontational person so seeing stuff like that just “cmon bro, USE YO HEAD.”

28. How do you deal with writing pressure (ie: pressure to update, negative comments, deadlines, etc)?

I have yet to receive a negative comment! Which i was really surprised about tbh. As for deadlines or pressure to update, i just kind of do whatever. I do set goals, but i set them flexible enough that hey, if i can’t do it, that’s okay. 

I have a lot of mini goals, like “i want to write this chapter and get it done this week” and then the large goal is “FINISH BY END OF MAY” so i have time. 

Actually, now that I think on it, the entire pressure to update thing is probably why i’m waiting until I have all of OL&W written to post it weekly,, cause well. I wouldn’t wanna leave you guys waiting as I tried to write and work out the next chapters and stuff, you know?

30. Post a snippet from your current WIP without context - no more than 300 words.

34. How much of yourself and your life experiences do you put into your writing? What do you think your readers’ image of you is?

None of my experiences match up to anything I write tbh,,, probably the only thing that is me in my writing is maybe the emotional turmoil? I’m pretty emotionally and mentally mature because from a pretty young age i started forming my own opinions, started looking into the world around us and being like “dude what the fuck this is not what disney advertised”. Then i started talking (read: arguing and debating) with my dad about a lot of it. So, like emotions are kind of hard for me. Like i’m pretty good at controlling them or understanding them, but still. idk its hard to explain ig.

Like the weight of stress, the anger, the sadness. It’s kind of therapeutic to write. Cause i don’t know how to put those feelings to verbal words so writing them really helps. 

As for my readers’ image? Probably like some kind of hunched over figure typing away in the dark with a maniacal grin on their face. I honestly don’t know AHHAHAHA but it is fun to think about. I think they’d see me as someone with potential but a lot of room to grow and someone who is imperfect but in a charming way LMAOOOO

38. What does your writing process look like? How chaotic is it on a scale of 1 (very tame) to 10 (you can’t handle this kind of chaos)?

I’m gonna be real honest. Its probably like a 2. I’m a bit of a control freak so I almost always go in chronological order, my writing is pretty linear. Unless, i get bored and jump to one of my fav parts. It's pretty much i sit down, i open the doc, read over my notes and just start writing. 

It’s a little boring to explain AHAHAHA but once i get into the groove of things its really fucking great, I can like feel myself in the world, I can feel what i want the characters to, i love it. I catch myself mouthing the words as i type too, which i find hilarious.

39. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?

I rather like how raw my writing is sometimes. Which might sound really vain, but i do like the way i word things or describe things. I love juxtaposition and repetition, or making a good ole circle back to some minute detail that wouldn’t stand out until i repeat it at the end and you’re like “omg” AHAHAHAHA.

Like those little poetic snippets or certain wording i just sit back and go “damn thats kinda good nadia! go you!’ HAHAHA  

40. How did you come up with the idea for The Intimacy Of Being Understood?

AAAAA this fic is like my first child, my pride and joy LMAO

so the idea initially came when i was reading some fic, idk if it was even naruto, but i was like “i don't like this, but i do like the rain symbolism.” And I knew i wanted to write something kind of slow paced, something a little sad and angsty, but would show KakaSaku slowly but surely falling in love.

Idk if you’ve noticed but a lot of my fics, the pairings don’t change each other dramatically. They accept each other as they are and then they grow with together. Like that acceptance is something i just love writing, its so subtle, it isn’t something you declare. Its simply “I am going to love you. I am going to love you despite your flaws and faults. I am going to love you unconditionally because I know you, I understand you, and there is nothing you could do to drive me away.” 

The fic kind of wrote itself after that first scene. I kept going back to the rain, go being ghosts, and resurrection, and the small epiphanies one gets. I wanted to focus on each character’s growth with each other. They didn’t find light in life because of each other, but with each other. And i think that’s my favorite thing about that fic. 

I wanted something raw and real and just something beautiful. I’m actually really proud of it tbh. Would i go back and rewrite/edit it? Oh of course! I’d do that with every single one of my fics, but i’m not gonna cause i think its in its rawest form right now. :))))

Zukka + moonspirit!Sokka

So I love to write fics but I’m horrible at committing and finishing them out but here’s a rough outline/headcanon for prince zuko and moonspirit Sokka (this is gonna be long sorry)

To start Hakoda is chief of the Northern water tribe which obvs means that Sokka and Katara as well as Kya and Bato are all NWT (Kanna ran away from sexist Pakku and the southern tribe)

Aang is instead from the the Northern Air temple but still runs away and gets caught in a storm and freezes into an iceberg

The Northen Water Tribe gets attacked as the next expected place for the Avatar but thanks to the spirit oasis they’re a little more protected and are able to mostly withstand the numerous attacks; they still lose people but are not on the brink and still maintain a few waterbenders and Kya doesn’t die

Maybe a fire bender gets past their defenses and she gets burned idk but since there’s still water benders she’s healed up and lives (let the water tribe family be happy)

Sokka basically gets Yue’s backstory so that he can become moonspirit blessed

The war and fire nation all tracks with the show up (Sozin starts it, Iroh loses Lu Ten, Azulon order’s Zuko’s death and Ursa leaves, Ozai takes over) until Zuko’s Agni Kai

Iroh’s basically going through the motions after Lu Ten’s death, his depression made worse with the loss of his father and he pretty much doesn’t care that his birthright has been usurped by his little bro because he’d give it all up, live as the poorest person on earth, as long as it meant he had his son back

BUT THEN OZAI CHALLENGES HIS THIRTEEN YEAR OLD CHILD TO A SPIRITS DAMNED AGNI KAI

Iroh starts off with giving his brother the benefit of the doubt, like he knows the guys isn’t the greatest father but he’s not gonna HURT his kid right? Wrong. So the second Ozai cups his son’s face and Iroh sees the flames he snaps out of it and jumps into action

He literally jumps into the ring and pushes Ozai away, challenges him on the spot for the throne and Ozai might be the Fire Lord but Iroh is the MOTHER FUCKEN DRAGON OF THE WEST and kicks the guys ass

Ozai is thrown into the royal prison (and probably has some large burns because his brother can breathe fire??? And Iroh maybe vindictively made sure to burn the hand he hurt Zuko with so that everytime Ozai sees it he’ll remember why he’s there)

Zuko still has his scar but thanks to Iroh’s intervention it’s a little lighter, his sight and hearing on that sides a little fucked, and the outline of a handprint a little easier to discern but instead of the all encompassing shame and anger and pain when Zuko looks at his scar he’s reminded of how much his Uncle loves him and what he did to protect him (thinks of how much his mom loves him and probably Lu Ten because you can’t convince me that Iroh’s kid wasn’t like the best cousin ever)

He’s still a little self conscious of it because come on it’s a giant face scar from his father and he’s a teenager but it’s not as bad as in the show

Newly crowned Fire Lord Iroh declares the war over and since the 94 year or whatever war isn’t that catchy and Iroh wants it to be acknowledged that it was the fire nations fault it starts to be referred to as Sozin’s War

So fast forward three/four years and the world is slowly moving towards peace Fire Lord Iroh is hosting a small delegation of the leaders of the different nations to really start ironing out official peace treaties which means Hakoda and Fam come down from the North Pole and everyone finally meets!

BONUS

Lu Ten was a non-bender so became super skilled at a number of diff weapons and fighting styles

Zuko is understandablely freaked out by fire bending for awhile after the whole facing his father in a fire duel thing — Iroh remembers how Zuko seemed to like watching Lu Ten practice his swordsman skills so he calls on his good friend Master Piandao

Piandao takes one look at this little traumatized boy and goes ‘Bitch let’s get you some sword therapy’ and hands Zuko his first set of dao swords and during their training while Zuko’s too focused on getting his forms right he doesn’t realize that they’re not talking about swords anymore and instead he tells him about the Agni Kai and his scar and how he’s scared of his own fire

Piandao is the first person Zuko ever tells about how the Agni Kai wasn’t the first time his father hurt him; he’s also the first non family person Zuko’s ever cried in front of and gotten a hug from

Hakoda and Bato never leave to fight but make regular weeks long trips out to keep the defenses up so there’s still some worry that he won’t come back; Sokka’s not allowed to come along because his parents are a little over protective because of how he was born and only alive because the moonspirit blessed him but they still let him do some warrior training after Sokka convinced them about needing to know how to protect himself as son of the chief plus how kya was hurt

“If they got in once they can do it again!”

Sokka and Katara sneak out one day because they feel the need to make sure the Fire Navy is really retreating and they end up in some SiblingFight TM and Katara might have some people to help train her water bending but she’s still a teen girl and when she gets worked up her control kind of gets iffy and she ends up cracking a giant iceberg and FINDS A WEIRD BOY

A WEIRD BOY WHO TURNS OUT TO BE THE LAST AIRBENDER AND THE AVATAR

with Fire Lord Iroh declaring the war over and everyone slowly starting to believe him there’s no rush to get Aang powered up so instead the Water Tribe Sibs take him home and focus on figuring out what happened to Aang and giving him a history lesson in a more relaxed manner

They still take him to the air temple which is hard but Aang won’t believe them about the war until he sees proof and well the Fire Navy is gone and there is no angsty teen hunting him

Hakoda more or less adopts the kid while Aang hangs around the north pole to train and become BFFs with Sokka and Katara

Toph gets tired of her overprotective parents and runs away after she hears them wailing about marriage prospects or something; she finds her way to Omashu where some weird old crazy guy finds her and he says he’s king which is kind of confusing but whatever he gives her a place to stay, doesn’t expect her to act like a lady or treat her like a porcelain doll, he’s kind of funny and is a freaking amazing earth bender (almost as good as her)

Aang comes with Hakoda as part of his fam for the Peace Summit while Toph accompanies Bumi as part of the Earth Kingdom delegation and so the Gaang comes together while the adults fix shit like they should

Zukka specific

Iroh and Zuko greet all the delegations personally so Zuko’s first sight of Sokka is in full Water Tribe regalia and he thinks the white haired boy is the prettiest person he’s ever seen in his life

Sokka has pretty much the same reaction seeing the Prince of The Fire Nation (he feels a little bad about it because it’s only been like three years since the war ended and a lot of people still view the Fire nation as the enemy)

Sokka can’t sleep one night, he’s a bit of a night owl because of his connection, so he’s wandering around about trying to find an open quiet spot so that he can talk to the moon (the spirit saved him so he likes to talk to it like it’s his friend) when he catches Zuko practicing his dao

Zuko has nightmares and going through his dao forms relaxes him along with spending time at his precious turtleduck pond

Sokka is full on smitten after that (there’s nothing more attractive than a boy competently handling two swords)

Sokka asks Zuko to show him how to use his swords

There’s shy flirting between the two and good natured teasing from the others

Mai and Ty Lee come up with little schemes to get Zuko and Sokka alone which clash with the schemes Aang and Katara come up with

Toph choas goddess she is bounces between the two groups throwing out comments that she’s knows will cause the two different schemes to clash

I’m so flattered people like this au. I didn’t think I’d be posting again so soon, but I had some more ideas last night. If you’d like to catch up:

My brief, very long, not at all fleshed out plan based roughly on what year Sokka is in and other associated events:

First year

Sokka’s first year is boring 

He meets Zuko, makes some friends in his house, probably a bunch of OCs

He finds the kitchens on day 2

Hogwarts just hires people who like to cook, who cares whether they’re magical beings or humans or whatever, there’s all sorts of really cool kitchen magic though

He’s always asking questions in class and you can tell why he’s a Ravenclaw

He wants to learn about everything

And once he knows how to do more than shoot a few sparks, he’s going to start inventing

He’s going to do some truly awesome things with transfiguration and potions

And I can’t wait for him to start arithmancy

Like let me tell you, Sokka is a genius, and he’s probably going to be the only one who understands magical theory 

This just ended up being a rant about Sokka, so moving on

Second year

The fun starts

Katara and Aang are finally here

Sokka doesn’t know Aang is the avatar

I’m very tempted to have both Katara and Aang be in Hufflepuff

And they run into Sokka in the kitchens

He does a double take, like who is this boy with my sister??

But Aang’s a sweet kid

So Sokka is immediately like we’re bros now, I don’t make the rules

Iroh starts working at Hogwarts (sorry, I changed my mind from herbology) as the potions professor

He comes in on the train with Zuko who just got banished (I actually...might change the specifics)

Sokka doesn’t know what to make of that

Azula is also skulking around annoying Zuzu 

But I think she secretly cares a bit and threatens anyone that looks at his scar wrong, because Zuko helped her a lot with some stuff

I think she’s going to be in the same year as Katara and Aang? I’m not sure

I have plans for Azula

I think Mai and Ty Lee are going to be in Zuko’s year, but closer to Azula

Mai and Zuko will date at some point

I think Mai will end up with Ty Lee

But she and Zuko had a short relationship

I think it was more expected of them by their families that they date

But they’re good friends now

I’m not doing this betraying and cheating and hurting other characters to find out who you are thing

Everyone is having wholesome relationships that just don’t work out

(Sidenote, I’m changing things, and characters might end up a bit OOC for atla, and I’m really sorry, but this is just wish fulfillment for me)

Anyway, there’s a plot to find the avatar 

The mini gaang (toph isn’t here yet) learn the prophecy (still working on it)

Third year

They find out about Sokka and Katara’s mom

I don’t think Hakoda really knows what happened either. I don’t think he was in the country at the time

I also have some ideas for the water tribe/fire nation beef, but I just made the realization that if I spell everything out in these posts, what’s the point of writing for Ao3 XD

But spoilers, it’s going to be pretty angsty

But I like happy endings, so I may find a way to fix it

Ish

I have this whole idea that if Suki or the Kyoshi are also werewolves, they have really cool rituals to respect and honor the moon spirit and that allows them the ability to turn into wolves whenever they want and not just the full moon

So other people can also be born as werewolves, but different groups have different ways of being a werewolf

Also, I believe I said Zuko starts following Suki around thinking she’s the avatar

And then Sokka decides to fake being the avatar (I completely forgot when I said this would happen, so I’m assuming it’s this year or the next)

This is about when Sokka’s letters to Hakoda start going on about Zuko’s everything even more

Fourth year

Zuko (Zuko’s fifth year) witnesses something unspeakable

Sokka is kidnapped

Zuko saves Sokka

That’s all the detail I have on this XD

But the unspeakable thing and the kidnapping are going to be this year’s mystery

Zuko, the idiot, still thinks Sokka is the avatar at this point

Aang is like no

But doesn’t bother to say he is

So Zuko thinks Katara is the avatar for a hot sec

But has some nonsense logic that there’s no need to stop following Sokka, because if he or his sister are the avatar, of the two, Sokka’s more likely to give something away

Which okay, Zuko, not actually terrible reasoning, except Sokka’s been leading you around by the nose for ages

There’s none of this the avatar rotates which element they can use

Because that’s predictable

And half the fun is that Zuko is trying his best, but has zero clues

Fifth year

This is the big question

I’m not sure what to do with this year

I hope Sokka can start inventing

I want him to make some cool shit

There won’t be an equivalent of the DA as far as I can see :( I can’t figure out how I’d structure that

I think it would be really cool to see them all learning how to use their elemental magic though

Toph and Zuko don’t really need the help

Katara and Aang have always had to deal with all the crap going on, so they haven’t had much time for it

I’m wondering if I should bring in Paku

Aang has it rough, because air magic users are really rare now

So I think he might work with Iroh, because he’s studied other styles of magic extensively

Sixth year

I think Mai had to figure out she was bi

I truly think Zuko doesn’t have time for gender

For like five years, he’s like DO YOU KNOW WHO THE AVATAR IS and if you don’t, he’s already forgotten who you are

So my headcanon is that he’s pan and when he and Sokka eventually get together, Sokka doesn’t know anything about his orientation and just knows he dated Mai, so he’s like “are you cool with me being a dude? Sorry, I just know you’ve dated Mai, so just checking haha?”

And Zuko’s so done with all the random crap he’s dealt with that he’s like “wow, you have a dick? Congratulations”

But then realizes Sokka’s actually concerned and talks it out

Anyway, everyone’s leveled up now, we’re all masters at elemental and non-elemental magic (seriously, Sokka could’ve sat for his NEWTs last year if he wanted to. He’s that far ahead and magic is that intuitive for him)

I have no idea what will happen this year lol

I kind of want an invasion of Hogwarts, I know I’ve been trying not to just blindly follow the books completely :/ So I guess we’ll see?

I’ll have to work on that

I’m such a sucker for the villain waits until the end of the school year to attack

Because it’s so dumb

Like I will find the avatar! *shakes fist* But education is important, kids

Like okay, Sozin

Maybe I can have Roku finally escape that mirror

I kind of want the past avatars to be spirits that anyone can interact with

But most people don’t know how

So the Kyoshi can interact with Avatar Kyoshi as well as other relevant spirits

Seventh year

????

The plot?? Who knows yet

I do know that Zuko’s graduated

And they’re all crying and like wtf do we do now

Because Sozin’s still around and they’ll miss him

And finally Zuko leaves

And he shows up as the assistant DADA professor and he’s like “Hi, Zuko here” and then he’s like “I mean, fuck, Professor Zuko, I mean, fuck...just call me Zuko. You guys all know me”

And the gaang is all like wtf Zuko, we thought we would only see you for breaks

And he’s like you really thought I’d leave you

The plan is that he’ll be an apprentice for a year or so and then take over as professor

Toph punches him so hard, Katara has to heal the bruise

I can guarantee a happy ending

I’ll do whatever angst on the way, but they’ll all be happy

I’m like 89% sure they’re all going to end up working at or around Hogwarts (why work for the government, when you can invest in teaching all these talented kids)

One more thing, there is going to be rep in this au. I know there’s at least one aro ace character. Multiple bi characters. One gay character. One pan character. One trans character that I know of, but I need to plan that out a bit more. Some of these orientations and identities, I can’t speak to personally. For instance, while I know a decent amount about the medical aspects of transitioning, I don’t think I’d be able to write the experience of gender dysphoria and give that its due right now. So unless it’s something I have first hand experience with, most of the individual emotions as part of figuring things out might happen off screen. That doesn’t mean I won’t bring up issues the characters may have had in the past, but any that I talk about, I’d have to do more research into first. Also, partly because this is mostly from Sokka and Zuko’s perspectives, we’re mostly going to be present for what other characters tell them about their experiences

I have a fic dedicated to struggle with keeping my apartment and asking for help but each time I go back to it it’s just too real. Some of the things I threw in there just for funsies at the time now read as like ‘oh shit how did I not see my own cries for help?’

I started it back in March for Zukka week as the free space option, and then replaced it when it was clear I couldn’t rush something so personal

15. What are your writing strengths?

I think I’m pretty good with dialogue and am getting better at the like, introspective feelings stuff. I also know that I’m pretty fucking creative and have good ideas that just need to be executed.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

@sintheeuhxo is teaching me how to be better at ‘in between dialogue’ writing, and in general I know I can be pretty repetitive with my own phrases. Lately I worry that becoming more wordy also makes my stuff harder to read

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I am not capable of this and don’t think I should try since I only speak English

Honestly such a rude question because I have very many but I guess I’d have to say ‘Rain Check’ because it was so much fun spinning one of my favorite shows into a fic about my boys 💕.

Some zukka headcanon maybe, since you said you're also accepting pairs?

The real challenge here is trying to think of stuff I haven't said a million times

Headcanon A (realistic): I can't help but think that the time between the Boiling Rock and Sozin's Comet was like... their golden hour where anything could happen. They had just had this adventure together, they bonded, they get along, and if ever they're going to make a move, it's now. But the war looms, and Suki's reintroduction into the group dynamic muddies Sokka's feelings even further, so beyond a few almost touches and some lingering eye contact, the two let their window of opportunity close without taking advantage of it, and since they're both so busy with leading their respective nations, they never really get another chance. Sokka marries Suki, Zuko adopts Izumi, they're both happy, but their relationship with each other is forever a tragic What Might Have Been

Headcanon B (unrealistic): BUT FORGET THAT LET'S SEE WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN so I like to imagine that once the Fire Nation settles a bit into peacetime due to Zuko's incredibly hard work, Iroh steps in for an unofficial regency to give Zuko time to relax for the first time in his life, for a few weeks at least. So Zuko hops on his dragon and heads for the Southern Water Tribe. Zuko can't relax to save his life, so he immediately gets to work on helping Sokka with the tribe's restorations, and while he's still working, he doesn't have to call the shots so it feels like a break. And even better? He gets to live with Sokka. They make up for lost time, they go penguin sledding, dragon riding, occasionally steal kisses behind igloos, and while it's a relatively brief vacation, it's a month or so that Zuko holds close to his heart forever (this is unrealistic bc I can't imagine Zuko ever leaving the Fire Nation bc he's got so much pressure on him to be better than Ozai and he's terrified to leave the capital bc so many of his councillors worked for his father)

Headcanon C (sad): I think Sokka's death not too long after Aang's is the catalyst for Zuko abdicating the throne prematurely in favour of Izumi. Realising that Sokka is really gone and that the chance for them to be something more is gone with him, Zuko comes to realise that he completely sacrificed his own happiness for the Fire Nation all this time, not chasing love or spending more time with friends because of his responsibilities, with the only consistent source of happiness being his daughter and later grandson. Izumi is READY to be Fire Lord and Zuko knows it, so he finally makes the choice to put himself first for the very first time, and leaves the Fire Nation in Izumi's capable hands to travel the world again, just like that brief time in his youth when he was surrounded by friends and wasn't weighed down by a crown. Zuko doesn't get the happy ending he deserves with the man he loved, but at least he gets to enjoy some of the peace in the world that he gave up everything to build

Headcanon D (canon? don't know her): BUT ALSO FUCK THAT so consider: Zuko abdicates much earlier. Let's say he adopted Izumi when he was like, 26 (partially bc he needs an heir but doesn't want to be pressured into a political marriage, but mostly because he wants a family that isn't screwed up). Izumi is clearly well-raised and serious, so let's say she takes over when she's like 20. So Zuko gives up the throne in his 40s rather than his 60s/70s, and what does he do? Why, he immediately marries Chieftain Sokka of course. As I've said, Zuko can never really stop working, it's not in his nature, but work doesn't feel like work with Sokka, so Zuko comes to see the Water Tribe as home, and they live happily ever after and NOTHING BAD HAPPENS

ok here’s an AU i actually have shit planned out for (and some chapters written) lmaooo it’s a momoi/riko howl AU!! riko = sophie + momoi = howl is rlly fun to write lol. also aomine is calcifer bc let’s be real that tiny fire demon was basically just demon!aomine. the chapter titles in this one are gold tbh i’m really proud of them -- examples are, “Do YOU Want A Charming Stranger To Sweep You Off Your Feet? [Not Clickbait]” and “Riko Aida Presents - Being Old Sucks, Part 1/? (Also, There's A Demon But That’s Not Important)”.

tiny snippet: 

Riko could feel the stirrings of heat in her cheeks as Satsuki pressed against her, arm laying on her hand. 

“Let me,” she said sweetly. Dazed, Riko did so, moving aside so Satsuki had better access to the food. 

“Hand me a couple of eggs and some more bacon, please,” Satsuki instructed. Riko complied, doing her best to keep her composure. This was the wicked wizard Satsuki, not just any pretty girl - she had to be on her guard. 

Satsuki cooked much the same way Riko did, planting a few doubts in the now-aged girl’s mind. Eggshells in the eggs, blackened bacon… perhaps her cooking really was bad.

Then again, from what she’d seen of Junpei, he did have a tendency to exaggerate.

daiki’s basketball

yes its an aomine-kuroko roleswap yes i like torturing myself because it comes w/the bonus of inflicting this upon my readers. it’s my first multichapter, and like ewbts it’s also half posted and then i realised how shittily i’d written it so i started rewriting smh. the only redeemable bit about v1 is the summary bc it’s good for my summary standards: 

tetsu had changed. tetsu was no longer his partner. but daiki saw that same spark in kagami, and even if he wasn’t one for sappy romantic stuff like tetsu, maybe this time… maybe this time the light he picked would stay with him.

Everything was in place. Zuko would have adopted Izumi by this time tomorrow; would have met the demands of his company; would be a father, the best one that he could. He had to admit he was a little more than excited - it’s not every day that you get to be a father, and especially not to a firecracker like Izumi. Now, if only Izumi’s social worker weren’t this attractive… and if only he weren’t the same man that Zuko had been absolutely, abominably horrible to the previous week.

its a zukka modern AU in which zuko is running his dad’s company after ousting ozai, and the board pressures him to get an heir. ace gay bean zuko decides he’ll adopt instead. also azula/katara subplot with katara being an intern at azula’s hospital (NOT in charge of azula tho bc that can lead to some weird power dynamics). highkey slowburn romance tbh. zukka hate each other for only a bit, but the friendzoning is unreal lmao
