(zonau? not sure if thats like. the worlds coolest plural or a translation difference) given your content with more monstery designs i would have thought they'd be up your alley!! however. i have also not played skyward sword (as much as id like to) and i know most of peoples upset with their existence and the totk storyline is because of its conflicts with that plot? i'm very excited to see what you do with your rewrite/botw2!! given their slight presence in faron in botw, it would be cool to see you repurpose the zonai in some way that doesn't conflict with the plot you're going for, something that makes more sense with the cryptic kinda bare minimum we had in botw? sorry if you've explained your stance on the zonai before <3

hhhhhhhh i had ranted alot about it but i hope you are prepared- (also "zonai" is sonau in german but im choosing to write it with a z so people recognize it at least, im pretty sure zonau is also the orignal japanese word for them)

i am fine with their design, in fact, i LIKE their character designs, however i dont like everything else about them.

and no its also not bc it affects skyward sword bc it doesnt affect ANYTHING in skyward sword, bc skyward sword is the VERY FIRST zelda game in the timeline and totk is nowhere near it, totk draws several paralels towards skysw bc its meant a sort of soft reset for this new era but its really just thematic overlap and references bc those are cool (i know alot of people are trying to convince the entire fandom that totk somehow is crammed into the old timeline but trust me its never anywhere near confirmed nor does it make any sense, heres the lil graphic i made last month to clarify how i think its meant to be understood .. quite obviously even -

i dont mean to sound .. mean, but some people read too much into little phrases or references to older titles (like first king of hyrule .. doesnt have to mean the literal firstest of the first ones in all of forgotten history ever, just the first of THIS hyrule for example), and while im not against theories i am very annoyed when people try to say its somehow canon when its NOT)

i dont like how they are 'integrated' into botws world, they feel unnatural and shoved in everywhere, they have been everywhere and did everythign better and cooler and no part of (this) hyrule was untouched by them their architecture feels not integrated well either and design wise its rather bland, while the sheikah shrines for example while obviously not natural and very 'techy' they still build a harmonizing contrast while the totk shrines are pretty laughably unfitting compared to them the basically complete disappearance of all sheikah tech related stuff bothers me immensely bc why would you just get rid of it istead of developing it further (i know about purahs towers and think they are just like a worse version of the previous ones; and before this argument comes up again, them destryoing it all -somehow- bc they were afraid of it being taken over again is a dumb excuse bc then they should be even more scared of zonau tech- even MORE unknown and advanced tech literally falling from the sky) you could have done SO MUCH with the ancient shiekah tech it drives me nuts

i also think it tipped the delicate balance of the kinda medival setting + high tech that botw had set up compeltely over, the zonau tech just .. is so painfully obviously only the way it is to give you little lego parts to glue together (i know its a focus of the game ... or at least the gamePLAY but it could have been done better, again i think they managed the balance perfectly with shiekah tech, its weird and isnt natural but doesnt endanger the believability of it ... the zonau tech just throws that out the window rly ... how cool would it have been if you could built lil guardian walk thingies djknhfkd )

in general they just feel like a complete replacement for the ancient shiekah and are so SO desperately trying to make the zonau the COOLER and BETTER versions of what the shiekah were (you COULD have connected them in a cool way, like there being ancient shiekah labs build in the old zonau mining facilities bc they used zonau tech as basis for their own tech etc)

like instead of building on the set up and potential botw had prepared, they just scrambled to make a 'better' version of botw, like oh no forget THAT ancient civilization we have an EVEN MORE ancient, and EVEN MORE highly developed peoples there that were also everywhere before you but also were never really hinted at- and then repeat botws structure .__.

having an old and forgotten civilization of whom only some withered ruins remain gave botw a much more real feeling, a world with a history that you will never know (you know, bc that makes it intriguing and is just .. a good choice of worldbuilding imo)- and then totk comes along and reveals everything and also nothing, we know too much of them to be intrigued by their mystery and also not enough to actually care about them (also them beign presented as the good perfectly perfectestest kingdom of light that can do no wrong other than underestimate the eeeevil guy while they also had their hands on every part of the land and made all other races be their face and nameless servants just ... thats weird man!! i know its a game, even if its only aimed at kids my god they arent stupid either!! you really present me with that and expect me to take it at face value what argh)

again i think they COULD have been integrated into it, but the way it was done completely threw me off, im not mad about them EXISTING but about how it was DONE in the game

the way they were done robs not just totk but also botw of mystery and intrigue, for example i much rather had them stay a mystery, only ever talked about in some text and some old and almost completely withered ruins left, you never get so see what happened there in the past, you can only guess, but you have to deal with the fallout anyway and thats just ONE possibility, there are so many and it feels like they chose the most boring one every single time

sometimes knowing less is better than knowing half

Shout out to the hairdresser today, who not only was very friendly and welcoming and gave me a sick new hair colour

But she also did all the right things when speaking to a foreigner trying to learn her language (Finnish)

She was more than happy to speak Finnish with me. Often times when Finns hear my accent or I'm struggling to find the right word, they will just switch to English, and I understand why like in places like the Dr's office or the DVV, where it's important that all parts understand what's being said. Or sometimes at stores to make service go faster, and usually a visit to the store doesn't take more than 30 minutes at max (and that's only if my boyfriend and I have decided to go browsing the entire store, and he speaks Finnish so I rarely have to open my mouth when we're at a store together) The hairdresser appointment I had took about 2-ish hours or so, so it wasn't a short visit, which meant there was a chance for actual dialogue, maybe not heavy language topics, but we talked about things like, how I like living in Finland, differences between Denmark and Finland, what Denmark is known for (LEGO, HC Andersen) what I like about Finland, my job goals etc. 2. She spoke in a slower manner, without going real slow and being condescending. This made it relatively easy for me to understand her, despite not knowing every single word, sure I misunderstood a few times, but then she just rephrased the question or repeated it in English, and then I would reply in Finnish. 3. She corrected my mistakes in a positive manner. I read often how some foreigners apparently hate it when native speakers correct their mistakes, and part of me understands why, because sorry to say, some cultures in the world are rather rude when it comes to not speaking their language perfectly (not mentioning any names), but then again, making a mistake can change the whole meaning of a sentence. Like "minä tapaan minun ystävä" vs "minä tapan minun ystävä". When I said something that wasn't perfectly conjugated or the right plural or whatever, she would still nod and indicate that she understood what I meant, and when she would repeat the word the way it's supposed to be.

The neuroplasticity (or lack there of) of CDDs is really interesting in how it manifests over time. Because in so many ways I really am still a 5 year old child quietly crying myself to sleep, or a 17 year old girl desperately trying to establish an identity of my own in a world that feels like it has no place for me awash a sea of hormonal changes (second puberty really hits so different and yet so similar). But it also really does afford the room for real growth and change.

That change comes at a cost though, which is that I constantly feel alienated from my past selves. I cannot remember what I used to think, or why I thought it, only what I did and said and maybe what I was interacting with and try to work out my thought process from that. It's like most people are playdough, constantly being reshaped to a lesser or greater degree but still containing all that they were, while I'm Lego, I can be disassembled and reconstructed, but the pieces are solid, adding new bricks as needed and discarding those that are not (or putting them in storage at least).

We are also, of course, products of our environment. When your life is marred by identity uncertainty, we look to our surroundings to give us clues of who we might be. When I was on Reddit and browsed /r/all I would see the occasional tumblrinaction post about the plural community, fictionkins, and IRLs and think "well that's definitely not me. Discovering I was trans and coming to terms with being a marginalised identity, it was discord communities that taught me what that could mean and what I should be ready to fight against. On twitter I was lucky, I found the traumacore/empty spaces community that helped me to process the images I saw in my head that I didn't understand, and use my trauma as a tool of creation.

Taking part in the system community, it was the older focused communities that helped me to understand myself. I honestly don't know what my syscourse stance was back then, if I even had one. There are aspects of the wider online community that just don't vibe with me, some were a little damaging, others were simply incomprehensible to me. Joining Tumblr definitely shoved it in my face though.

The only thing I can imagine is that I must have thought that endogenic plurality was this "other" thing, I knew about DID, what switching and fronting and host and protector and system meant in that context, but endogenic plurality was something else that didn't concern me and I hadn't really come across it yet. So I was absolutely confused as fuck when I came here and saw people using all those "DID" words to mean something else. When anti-endos said "you can't form a system without trauma" that made absolute sense to me at the time because system meant DID and that's caused by trauma, why are people claiming to have DID things and using DID words while also saying that they don't have DID? Actually I do still kinda think the terms should be separate but it's not a battle I can be fucked to argue about anymore.

Because the point is that while online spaces might not change all that much, and there will always be people who join those spaces and be influenced by the culture in them, there are always other spaces that will influence them differently. So while it's absolutely frustrating as fuck to see anti-endos repeating the same horrible origins discourse, and endos saying fucking awful stuff like "I think traumagenic systems cling to trauma as a cause because they feel insecure about being a system", we need to accept that it will still keep happening while the spaces exist and remember that the people from those spaces are the ones with the opportunity to change. To learn, to see things from a different perspective, and most importantly grow.

And if they refuse to? If they keep spouting the same points over and over and over again, refusing to back down or learn, reigniting old arguments and digging stuff up from the past because they just can't let go of it? Just leave them to it I guess, we'll all be off making ourselves and each other better ^^

It's me after so long the one, the only, 🏐 anon!

We figured out that yeah we're definitely plural. And recently found out we have not one, not two, but three celestial monkey introjects (sun wukong, macaque (from what I've heard likes to go my mihou or six), and someone who formed from my lmk self insert oc, Yuye).

I say this because I woke up this morning in shock, unbelieving we have three whole magic monkeys in the system which previously consisted of (from those who've let me know they're around), a human volleyball player, a piglin, a revived man, a cat baker, an ancient shadowy cryptid who likes to pretend hes just a normal fox guy, and an enderian historian. Big shock to me.

For the first time, i got an actual word response as i contemplated these newly known headmates, a half offended "hey!"

And back responded, not sure from who: "yeah, well youre made lego." Followed by the lego bricks falling apart sound effect.

Everything Right/Wrong with Ninjago “Legacy of the Green Ninja” E10: Island of Darkness

- “Ultimate Spinjitzu Master?” Ultimate Spinjitzu Master is either the coolest or dumbest title I’ve ever heard. ❌

- Lloyd has dragon powers now because aromantic Lloyd canon ✅

- “Hahaha, jealous?” Yes. ✅

- “This sounds too good to be true… what’s the catch?” Knowing this show, probably trauma

- By s8 we’re supposed to believe that the FSM represented balance between both oni and dragon, but based on the dragon powers, dragon-shaped islands that make up Ninjago, and overall dragon-like theme to most of his belongings, I think he might’ve been a bit biased ❌

- “If you come across your father, it could prematurely start the Final Battle.” But the Final Battle is a prophecy, right? Seemingly with a time, location, and outcome all set in stone, based on the way you all seem to talk about it, so there wouldn’t be a way to start it “prematurely” ❌

- Also, this show acts as if the idea that destiny is inevitable is common sense. Therefore, what’s even the purpose of attempting to stop it if it’s already certain that you can’t? ❌

- “I could use some help around the shop!” What shop? You’re on an island! Old age really is getting to Julien, isn’t it? ❌

- “We should get working on vehicles that might help give us a fighting chance!” Julien says vehicles, plural, but then only makes one. No wonder he gets killed off by next season - you don’t tease lego with ideas for toy sales and then only deliver on one! ❌

- “Have you ever known us to veer from a plan?” Funny, but technically, they don’t veer from plans because they usually never have one in the first place. They usually go in 98% blind, and when they do have some sort of plan that goes off the rails, it’s usually not their fault. ❌

- “Then tell him…” Apparently, he didn’t have to tell him because the soldier responded to Garmadon, no translation from Kozu needed. ❌

- “Should I have shaken my fist more? Maybe dramatically thrown over a table! Or kicked over a-“ “NO YOU MYOPIC MORTAL!” This is so f*cking funny ✅✅✅✅

- “Look! This must be Garmadon’s camp?” “No, you think? I thought it was a takeout restaurant!” Fun fact: Garmadon owns at least 8 Taco Bells’ ✅

- “Quiet you bozos!” Why is so much of the dialogue this episode so good? ✅

- “So, how did you meet him?… no, my father.” “You know, he wasn’t always evil…” Misako goes into this rant because it was less awkward than telling Lloyd about the strip club ❌

- This fight scene is cool, and really shows off how much Lloyd’s powers have grown, and we’ve seen it all throughout the season. At least, we were supposed to, right? That was the point of the filler episodes - to show us how his powers grow and develop, and we did see him training, but at the same time I feel like we just… didn’t, ya know? ❌

- “I spy… another tree!” “Jay, how did you ever become a ninja, seriously?” This is one of my favorite lines in the entire show ✅

- “If we go in there, they’ll know we’re here too!” As oppose to what - them thinking one of the members of the team is here, on this dangerous island swarming with indestructible soldiers, without any backup whatsoever? Come on, the ninja follow each other around like lost puppies pretending to be wolves! ❌

- “Why don’t we ever listen to [Wu]?” Because he rarely gives you anything to listen to, and when he does, he’s cryptic about it, and you’re only meant to understand it moments before certain death. ❌

- Where did Garmadon get popcorn from?? ❌

- “Uh, we jump into that hole!” Jay was moments away from dooming them all. ❌

- This entire escape scene with the boards is awesome, especially with the soundtrack ✅

- “Perhaps it can be of use?” Was that a reference to the bus token thing from Pirates Vs. Ninja? ✅

- ^Zane is wearing the suit he has yet to get ❌

- ^Unlike Julien, lego must love Nya

- The Stone Army’s vehicles are currently driving up what’s nearly a 90 degree angle ❌

- “Hah! We made it to the top!” Jay has a very delayed reaction before saying this ❌

- Also, they are very obviously not at the top ❌

- ^ Cole, I love you ✅

- “No one move!” Zane says, in Cole’s voice ❌

- It’s at this point that I implore you to watch this episode, or at least this scene, because it never gets old. The music, the framing - everything is on point. Even the suit designs look epic. ✅

- and the way the music rises as Lloyd does this spinning thing ✅

- And then he drops to the ground and Kai is worried about him ✅

- And all of them getting separate segments to show off their powers! ✅

- I know I’m a winning streak, but I can’t just ignore the fact that Jay’s lightning conducts through wood ❌

- And then they casually throw this Cole dancing thing in here ✅

Barbie Movie Ramblings (Part 1)

Watched it yesterday and *loved* it. It was one of the most silly, snappy, stylish, and still smart movies I've seen in a long time, and thus I've got a lot of synapses shooting off. Going to let some of them ricochet around Tumblr instead of just inside my skull. Enjoy! Feel free to add on!

Okay ... Where to even start?

Firstly, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling both deserve an Oscar for the depth and breadth of their acting range on display in this film, Greta Gerwig for the masterful execution of her directorial vision. And whoever wrote the casting credits deserves death for how unhelpful they are. Practically everyone is either just "Barbie" or "Ken", so how am I supposed to reference them easily here? Gods damn it, at least give them their titles, like "President Barbie" or "Journalist Barbie"!

I'm still giggling at lines like "Oh! The Supreme Court!" for the Miss Universe billboard, or Ken's confession "When I found out patriarchy wasn’t about horses, I lost interest," or Ruth Handler's ghost's self-deprecating boast "I am Mattel. At least, until the IRS got to me." I mean it in the most positive way imaginable when I say this movie was like a cohesive feverdream, like a frenetic session of children playing yet with an internally logical plot.

Okay, now for the more intellectual thoughts.

Apparently, a lot of people are arguing about whether or not this is really a good Feminist Movie(TM), whether or not it's a movie for Boys(TM), if it's anti-men, if it's just one big commercial for Mattel products, etc.

For that last one, yeah, of course it's selling Mattel products. But grow up, because it's not *just* a commercial. Much like "The Lego Movie" is selling legos AND ALSO a heartfelt story and a fascinating work of artistic performance in its own right. "Barbie" is a text worthy of analysis beyond "it's one big commercial", and part of how intellectually rich it is comes from the very fact that it engages with its own tangled roots in capitalist consumption.

As for whether or not it's for Boys(TM)--or for anyone at all, for that matter--I admit I've always thought such considerations were kinda stupid. Not everything is meant for everyone, obviously, nor should everything even try to be. But, by that same token, anything can be for anyone. People are not static and thus neither are audiences.

The idea of a Target Audience can be helpful, sometimes, but I think it's both grossly oversimplified and overextended nowadays (because capitalism and marketing). We need to remember, not everyone in a Target Audience will resonate with a given story, not everyone outside a Target Audience won't resonate with a story, and that that can change for individuals depending on ... heck, even what kinda day they're having. I loved this movie, but I probably wouldn't want to watch it on a day when I'm feeling really depressed. Maybe the producers and executives didn't market it with Boys(TM) in mind, but boys absolutely can and should watch "Barbie". It's a fun movie, and they should be allowed to enjoy it, too. And, more importantly, learn from it.

Is it anti-men? Pff! No. And only idiot conservatives would even think that's a worthwhile question worth asking.

As for if it's *really* a *good* Feminist Movie(TM) ... I think anyone asking this particular question is forgetting how complex and nuanced Feminism can be. Indeed, Feminism isn't really a single thing--it's not a unified monolith--but rather a bunch of connected and sometimes conflicting schools of thought, philosophies, political stances, and so on. In general, it really would be more accurate to say Feminisms (plural) than Feminism (singular). Giving a hard no, therefore, I reckon is insisting that it can't be Good Feminism(TM) because it doesn't fit someone's too narrow idea of what Real Feminism(TM) is/should be. Giving a hard yes is probably falling into the same trap.

Put another way, Feminism is a lot like Jewishness. It isn't really about finding The Absolute Answer(TM) to a question, but about the process of thinking and debating by which you come to a possibly impermanent answer.

To give some examples from the movie: Does the Barbie doll actually empower little girls? She shows them they can aspire to be more than just mothers, that they can be anyone and do anything ... But she also reifies this idea that women must look beautiful and be perfectly accessorized while doing it. It's not "yes or no", but "yes and no". Is the narrator's fourth-wall-breaking line "Note to film makers: Margot Robbie is not the right person to cast to make this point." (when Barbie is having a crisis about being inadequate, not being pretty enough or smart enough, etc.) one that undercuts or underlines the movie's emotional climax? It interrupts the flow of the dialogue and suggests that a woman's self-perception is less important than how others perceive her ... But it reminds us that she's not an everywoman, but rather an actress playing a specific doll in a fictional story, and this is a self-aware performance about the need to be self-aware. Not "yes or no" but "yes and no". It ends with Barbie being excited for a gynecology appointment. What the heck? On the one hand, it echoes the reality and physicality she now inhabits. She's real and alive, so she has a body with reproductive organs thus feminine health concerns that are being acknowledged in a way that is open and not shamed. She's no longer plastic and high-heeled and perfect, and thus will have blemishes and cellulite and flat feet, and that's wonderful ... But it also suggests the idea that the realness of womanhood is physical and medical and biological--suggests that it's situated not in her soul but in her body, not in who she is but what she has in her pants. Not "yes or no" but "yes and no".

Ironically, if anything, it might be a good Feminist Movie(TM) specifically because it doesn't try to give us simple, definitive answers about if the Barbie doll and "Barbie" itself are feminist icons. Feminisms are too complex and nuanced to give simple, definitive answers.

I've got one more thought (or string of thoughts) in me about this movie, I reckon. About how it's campy and doing nonstop drag (the Barbies are doing over-the-top femininity, the Ken's over-the-top masculinity, and even the Real World is doing over-the-top reality and grittiness ... except for the Mattel headquarters) and deconstructing itself, and how all that is foundational to its message. But this post has already gone on for too long than I originally anticipated. So I'll give voice to that idea in a bit.

Ooooh boy, today, this week, the past few months, the last several years…. It’s not been peak y’all. Not peak at all.

But. BUT. I have listens…. Check it -

This album was everything back in my 20s. The closest friend who in turn ended up introducing me to Chris brought this into my life… let’s just stay today has been a musical journey while it poured rain and ‘tunda’ on middle tennessee… we haven’t had rain in so long, the grass is dying, my flowers despite watering 2 x a day are struggling, my saplings have needed daily drippage, it’s been DRY, also, no matter what the weather channel says, it’s been > 100 for 3 weeks, with ‘feels like’ 110 and higher - so I’m not complaining, I just didn’t go on a hike.

We made cherry turnovers, butterfly art, and owned Minecraft -

We have a burn ban. We have brown foliage. We have humidity of > 70%. Welcome to the dirty, dirty south 🤘

Before I’m interrupted. Here’s the nitty gritty -

I did hit that extra 20, I assume the scale was predicting the future. Before I get neggy here, I just want to add, this has been what it is. I am not negative with myself. I’m not mad. I can’t deny a little disappointed that I gained 20 of the 70 I lost back, it wasn’t the 70 though, and I’m still down to clown. Workouts are non existent aside from some stollen made up mat time of my own for maybe 20 minutes, a mile or 2 walk at work on the days I’m there, sometimes weights, more likely not. I’ve continued 16/8 fasting and have extended to a couple 48 hour fasts and it really does do wonders for my hectic mind. I only push for it if I’m not hungry, and it’s not a FULL fast because I will have my collagen and kombucha. It is just, something I’m trying to maintain and not be detrimental to my mental here and now - it’s not like we don’t have a heap of other bs on our heads.

Her ct showed positive movement of her tumors. - I didn’t realize that was plural until recently, so while we are ahead at this point, the war is waging. And I say that not to be over dramatic, it’s just, I have to not be mopped with small wins and no victory, and it’s been a rollercoaster, and I’m swamped with just, grief. It’s grief, sitting with our necks on a chopping block, waiting for it to drop, and no one tells you this. That every visit is an anxiety laden heart attack. That each treatment and lab draw is a potential harbinger, and it’s fucking a Hoover to my soul, it’s an emotional leech on my folks, it’s exhausting. We tally ho of course, and I have this intense guilt for my feelings when it’s happening around me and not TO ME, it’s epically hard though. It’s hard. All of it.

Dad.

He’s hitting the ground running. His treatments for the myeloma have been great. The oncologists have gotten together and they can do Oral hormone therapy for his relapsed prostate cancer, then switch to pills for his multiple myeloma in the coming months as well. Positive on that front.

The summer programs with Jamis have been a hit. He has had a blast playing with cousins, doing ‘science’ and he is thrilled for legos this coming week. Best decision ever - also, not having to deal with the day to day dramedy that is my in-laws feels like we’ve had a damn colonic - the total crap of their instability and inconsistency is GONE, and hubs not having the day in and out with them has boosted his mood so far it’s stratospheric at this point. It’s as if I’m married to another man. His parents baggage was so heavy, not having them insert themselves 20 times a day for diet, questions about shows to watch, bathing suits, sun block, random ‘he doesn’t want to do x’ it’s been a breeze y’all. Easy breezy beautiful cover girl over here with excommunicado in-laws.

My SIL and bro are out the outskirts too as they’ve contracted Covid again, for the third time. Even though it’s apparently not real and a conspiracy. Just made the 4th easier. With the burn ban, we did paper lanterns that burn out in the atmosphere and are biodegradable-

The rest is history. We are all chugging along. Work has been so incredible. My current working with team has been elevated, and turns out I WILL be getting what I previously had; work from home day, procedure day, and position increase to lead NP. So, I followed my gut, and it worked out. Honestly that restored some of my distrust in humanity and Karma. Always a good thing.

One funny thing about my exposure to portal is that through a lot of context clues I was able to figure out that Glados was announcing her headmate in the lyrics of Want You Gone but see I also didn’t know what Lego Dimensions was or that it takes place before portal 2 so I assumed Glados went from being like “Oh yeah I’m plural I guess here’s my system mate” to then announcing that she has a batman fictive and I was like yeah it’s just like that, that’s very believable. Personally I refuse to change my pov on this/j

I should have indicated I was grinning in delight, because hapax legomenon is one of my favourite phrases ever (the silly family twist is Half-a-Lego-Melon), and I was riffing on the idea of there being more than one. I also find myself teaching students how to pluralize -ex and -ax into -ices and -aces every term, and was nodding along happily. Sorry that it didn't come across very well.
