i think people so often forget that saiki is very against playing god, sometimes hes a silly little guy and goes against his rules just a little but it takes a lot for him to SERIOUSLY play god. he uses his powers to do little, easy, usually insignificant things but not usually big ones.

if saiki went back in time or changed the world to solve every single one of his problems and every single characters problems, he wouldnt be the person he is 😭 the one time he did that was over the most traumatic moment of his life... and you want him to do that casually every tuesday or what?

ok, but imagine a post/mid-credits scene:

We see a dark door to Bucky's apartment from the inside, then hear rattling. Bucky opens the door while on the phone with Sam, ranting about what happened during the movie.

Then, he notices that there's faint light in one of his rooms, abruptly stopping the conversation and saying he'll call back. He cauciously walks up to the room as silently as he can, pulling out some kind of weapon in the meantime. He takes a steading breath and walks in.

Near a lightstand sits a man, one Bucky knows all too well, reading one of his books, his coat folded nearby. He doesn't look at Bucky but acknowledges him, greeting him.

Then he starts to talk.

He talks about power, how it corrupts absolutely. He talks about irony, how somones impulsive want can become their only purpose, the thing that was supposed to kill them the only value keeping them alive. He talks about a mission he was sent for, how it obviously is something he wasn't supposed to return from alive. He says that they can call it paying back for his help from last time, to make them even.

Bucky only raises his eyebrow, visibly unimpressed that so little info was supposed to convince him to do anything, especially for him. He asks for more details.

The man looks at him for a moment in silence, then closes the book he was reading.

"Say James," says Zemo, tilting his head, "What do you know about Latveria?"

a lot of people are talking about scary things that are probably going to happen in the next few years, which is understandable, but some of the things people are talking about have already been happening in red states for years and have generally been ignored when people from here talk about it. i think its perfectly fine to be afraid but i just find that interesting and i think it's worth pointing out.

Recently extinct species make me sad for all the usual and normal reasons (loss of life, biodiversity and unique life forms that experienced the world wholly uniquely and acted in it like no other, to name three), but a big thing that also makes me so sad is the forgetting that comes right after. Many endangered species are greatly ignored to begin with whilst alive of course, which is awful, but the way that extinction also causes us to forget. A species could’ve been so abundant a hundred years ago, people would’ve used a fish species or a tasty plant for food, or parents would’ve warned their children to not put a poisonous toadstool or insect in their mouth, a diver would exclaim, “Aha!” after emerging from the shallows holding an especially big bivalve, or someone making a species diary would sketch out a local bird or fasten a single flower to the page. But.. then the species goes extinct. It doesn’t exist anymore. None of these events, these actions happen anymore. Not with these species. The people who had these experiences dwindle out and they may not even realise that their experiences were among the last of their kind. And we forget.

saejima's character arc in yakuza 4-5

I still consider myself fairly new to the fandom since I started yakuza 0 last October (2024), but I've seen a lot of discussion around Majima and his ptsd, but not so much for Saejima. (I surely hope someone has made some analysis on this topic but it hasn't yet come across my radar)

[this is also just my analysis based off of the english localization]

Nobody seems to want to talk about the scene with Haruka in Yakuza 4, (which, yeah, the first time I watched it I was also shocked and confused) but after some hindsight and rewatching yakuza 4, I don't think he had any sexual intention with Haruka as many fans suggest.

[I am also going to highlight the traumatic responses of flight, fight, freeze, fawn/fib during these scenes.]

After Saejima wakes up, Haruka tells him her dad is checking in with the cops. Obviously, after just breaking out of prison, he surely doesn't want to go back. So, in a desperate attempt to stop her, he grabs her and ends up pulling her down. [saejima is using the response of fight since he is physically trying to prevent her from getting her dad who could bring him back to prison]

Later, on the beach, Kiryu says he figured Saejima was in prison for a while because he seems like he hasn't seen a woman in a long time. But let's be for real, when was the last time he saw a CHILD? After spending over 25 years in prison with other men who can and has to carry their own weight in that environment, I think he was just shocked at how fragile Haruka was and how easy it was to just knock her over with a quick grab. I also think she reminded him of Yasuko, who by the time of this scene, was already introduced in the 1985 flashback scenes. He was only 20 years old when he was incarcerated, and with her being younger, she couldn't have been older than 19 years old then. Even so, they grew up together and he must've seen her at the age of 12-13, which is around the age Haruka is. Furthermore, the last time someone was underneath him, as far as the audience is concerned with what they've been previously presented with, was when he pushed and pinned some guy onto a ramen counter and started BASHING his head with his fists and gun in hand with the intent to KILL.

So him in this position with Haruka is probably triggering that traumatic memory and in that scene, i believe he's fighting intrusive thoughts motivated by trauma of violence rather than sexual urges. (Honestly rewatching the scene it looks like he's fighting the urge to cry and it's hard to capture with a still image but in the scene his bottom lip does tremble :( )

Haruka gets quite flustered because she was just in a very vulnerable position; however to me, her reaction seems more of concern, like "damn something isn't right with this dude". She doesn't see him as a threat and even intervenes when Saejima and Kiryu start fighting, rather than cheer on her dad to beat this guy's ass. I think the game highlights this difference with her reaction to Hamazaki who she does see as a threat.

Also, I want to add that in the scene on the beach when Kiryu confronts Saejima, Saejima doesn't rebuttal against Kiryu's pedophillic allegations towards him probably because Saejima would rather lie/fawn and be deemed a pedophile than open up and be emotionally vulnerable about long term ptsd from an event that happened 25 years ago along with being incarcerated for those 25 years. [saejima is responding by fawning/fibbing, as he is just trying to find an easy way to get kiryu to help him out and give him money without fully opening up and being emotionally vulnerable to some guy he just met who might still call the cops on him]

I think what ties my interpretation together is the scene in the coliseum where the audience first sees a physical reaction to Saejima regarding the event in 1985 and his relationship with violence. Once he is presented with the sword and everyone is encouraging and pressuring him to murder, he finally hits a breaking point. He can't help but just bawl his eyes out as an involuntary physical response. Afterwards, he goes on a speech about literally having long lasting trauma from the event in 1985.

Later in the game, when he discovers what Yasuko's been doing for the time he's been incarcerated, he realizes his actions of violence has only led to more violence and eventually her death.

Yakuza 5

I think Yakuza 5 provides Saejima with a good resolution to his character arc. In this game, hunting becomes an outlet for him to engage with violence in a healthy manner.

Because of overhunting, Yama-Oroshi descended down the mountains due to lack of food and resources. In doing so, this bear ravaged the villagers' houses and supplies, and now they're too scared to go to the mountains to hunt in fear of being mauled by this bear. So, by hunting, Saejima is able to not only use violence to provide rather than to take, but also just take what you need, which is why every time you hunt and collect resources in the gameplay, Saejima expresses gratitude.

In the past, violence has only taken things away from his life: Violence has taken him away from freedom, society, and time with his loved ones. VIolence has taken Majima's eye. Violence has taken away Yasuko's innocence and life.

But now, he is able to use violence to feed mouths and provide warm clothing, resources, and supplies to the villagers.

I think this is also why he is written to be so kind and forgiving, especially to Baba. I've seen takes stating he is too kind and stupid for being so. (being overly kind and overtrusting can lead to others backstabbing or taking advantage [basically things go wrong], but that's also the risk you take when you believe in anything right?)

However, I see it as character growth since in Yakuza 4, he told Kiryu he wanted to seek revenge and enact violence but after all the events in that game, he realizes revenge and violence isn't the answer and tries to convince Baba so.

In addition, the growth of his trust in Kiryu and being emotionally vulnerable is shown in the rooftop scene, where they have a tender heart-to-heart about loneliness as both men who have lost childhood friends/siblings and lost years of spending time with them during their incarceration.

"wooow... i guess we're both ancient, huh?" he chuckles. "we're almost the same age, you know."

he gently swats at your side, giggling as he kneads your back. "i'm telling seungmin you're old, too."

"i mean it, chris," you turn your face. "i feel like i'm wasting away to nothing. my old, brittle bones are turning to dust--"

he ducks down, pressing a kiss against your shoulder. "did you really find a gray hair?" when you don't answer, he plants another kiss right next to the first. "aw... you're old."

the way he says it, all teasing and sing-song-y, makes you giggle. "nah... can't be," you muse aloud, eyes fluttering shut as chris's hands are heaven against your spine. "gotta grow old with you first."

"yeah?" he leans around to press a kiss against your cheek. "i like that idea, actually."

"yeah... i figured you would."

my rec list is very small for i don't really read fanfics and i only really read things when they're recc'd to me HOWEVER i do have a Very Small collection for you (descending by word count). under the cut cause the descriptions got long by accident Oops

1.) [EXPLICIT, READ WARNINGS BEFOREHAND] Chimera, by Andraste (Word Count: 1,304)

(Takes place in the Ultimate X-Men (2001) timeline) I can't really describe this fic adequately without telling the whole thing or accidentally doing an analysis on it: while it doesn't have a strict plot, calling it PWP isn't too accurate in my opinion either. The smut in this fic- in my reading- isn't meant to be erotic in the typical way we approach NSFW in fanfiction, but if I start to go in-depth on what that means this post is just going to be dissecting everything line-for-line LOL. The best way I suppose I can describe the premise of this fic is a "grim" scenario based around Charles reworking Erik's mind and keeping him "docile", and Erik catching on to what's been happening to him. This fic explores how Erik wants Charles to "atone" and confront the consequences for this meddling.

2.) As If Nothing Happened, by joshriku (Word Count: 3,289)

(Takes place amidst X-Men Unlimited (1993) #1) This fic expands on the X-Men Unlimited tidbit where Charles is rescued by a """"mysterious"""" figure (who we later learn is Erik in UXM 309) during the snowstorm he, Scott, and Ororo were entrapped by. Very domestic and "warm" and sprinkled with beautiful, playful back-and-forths, and is a joy to revisit if you want something cozy.

3.) [EXPLICIT, READ WARNINGS BEFOREHAND] Behind Closed Minds by f3armgneto (Word Count: 4,914)

(No specific verse or timeline) Honorable Mention Is Honorable i gotta include the fic that was written for me... i wasn't sure if you were looking for explicitly-stated comicverse fics only but i needed to do an honorable mention..... the art this fic's based off of is meant to be comicverse so surely that must count... Premise is essentially that Charles accidentally telepathically peeps on Erik showering and is incapable of moving beyond the instance without "proper resolution". Meanwhile on Erik's end, fully aware he'd been spied upon, thinks of a "countermeasure" to Charles' voyeurism (spoilers: it's more of a reward than a deterrent).

4.) it's going to be a long, long time, by joshriku

(Takes places amidst Krakoa period around AXE Judgment and X-Men Red) A series of events between Charles and Erik following the latter leaving to retire on Arakko. My summary does a poor job on highlighting the chemistry, dialogue, and longing between Erik and Charles in this: I can only beg you to give the fic some time to read it.

5.) not so tragic, my love- it's this dream, it's this sun, by joshriku

(Takes place post-gala/beginning-of-post of the Krakoa period, diverges from X-men: From The Ashes (2024)) Erik has Charles stay with him on Island M after the fall of Krakoa. It's no surprise Charles isn't doing so well mentally after losing everything, but- amidst the facsimile of some domestic joys- Erik wrangles with Charles' depression and anguish, the professor having long lost the light in his spirit to help his fellow mutants readjust after the downfall. (Guest Starring: Jean Grey who has a wonderfully written interaction with Charles- though this fic In Its Entirety is wonderfully written...)

when i was looking through my bookmarks i hadn't realized literally like. half of my rec list was written by joshriku AJLVKEJALK BUT THEM'S THE WORKS i owe them my life for getting charles and erik's voices, thoughts, and actions down so wonderfully. i hadn't read Number 5 in a while and i'm grateful for the excuse to do so: it's probably my favorite of their works that i have listed here, so if you read any of these fics i greatly suggest that one
