The 1975 Concept Album (Detailed)

'A Sight For Sore Eyes' by The 1975

I did the 1975's job and came up with some (lots) of ideas for their sixth studio album. Coming (never) to stores December 2024!

Would be shot somewhere in London or Manchester. Think (What's The Story?) by Oasis. I sketched other versions but couldn't make it look pretty for Tumblr :(

Ideally, it would be a guy in a black coat walking through a park, this kinda shot like the image below on the left. And the back of it would have the band in a park in the middle of the night, sitting on a bench with a street lamp right next to them. Healy would be leaning against the lamp, the rest of the band would sit on the bench, with one of them lying down in their laps. They face away from the camera. The shot would like the image below on the right.

Story

This, in my deranged, delusional head, is a concept album that follows a single narrative from the perspective of a single person. 

It follows a rockstar who can't remember the day before, permanently in a state of amnesia, but felt entirely compelled to create, perform, and fall in and out of the obsession. He falls in love, obsesses over a muse, yearns to be remembered, to be immortalised. Over the course of the story, he explores his relationship to art, sex, politics, drugs, the ephemerality of life and music, and optimistic nihilism. 

The story is linear - with him finding meaning in the lack of meaning.

Every song has specific inspirations! Most tracks have a specific inspiration from one of their (The 1975's) songs, and another one. Most are inspired by the sound not the lyrical content. Another note: Ideally, they would all transition perfectly into the next, but be able to stand well on their own as well.

Song inspiration: The 1975 (Being Funny In A Foreign Language) by the 1975 + Thirteen by Big Star

Guitar driven, slow start. 1/2 bass/drums come in & choir. Build up, and transition perfectly into track two.

Set the scene, as usual. Re-Introduce, welcome back! We're in for a ride! Essentially a prologue.

2. Bite The Bullet (Note: This would be the single!)

Song inspiration: You First by Paramore + Sex by The 1975

Fresh, nostalgic rock sound.

Story starts...The protagonist is in a bad state. He doesn't want to perform, but thousands are waiting. He's resentful to everybody. He owes it only to himself to prove that he can do it.

NOTE: This would have a music video, in my head I picture Harris Dickinson, with like 5 minutes straight of dialogue directed by Noah Bombauch. Looks very A24. Each band member would make a cameo.

3. Spilt Milk (Yes, this is a reference to Milk)

Song inspiration: Antichrist by The 1975 + Scott Street by Phoebe Bridgers

Strings, drama, cinematic quality.

He can't remember who he is, he doesn't recognise anybody he loves. He awakens with no memory, and then meets her. He must create.

4. Clíodna (Reference to Celtic goddess of the sea, the Otherworld, passion and love, and deep beauty)

Song inspiration: Nothing Revealed / Everything Denied by The 1975 + Jackie and Wilson by Hozier

Gospel, bluesy, rock-funk, choir, piano.

He's confused by everything - except for her. He clings to her, he is desperate for a muse. Someone to idealise. He hates himself for it, his self-awareness getting the better of him, but not enough to stop himself from putting her on a pedestal.

5. Make Me Immortal (I don't know why this title, don't question it)

Song inspiration: All I Need To Hear by The 1975 + I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free by Nina Simone

Soul piano ballad, jazz, gospel, blues.

He must compose, he must write. He must be an artist. He starts expressing his deep seated need to be remembered, despite his own lack of memory. He wants to be heard in an endless crowd and be understood. He faces his mortality, his mighty imagination, and even considers religion. Things get really political and confusing.

6. Stand Out (In A Crowd) (Every song title from here on onward is totally random)

Stripped back, calm, vulnerable, acoustic.

Away from the crowd, he returns to his muse. His muse doesn't recognise him anymore, but he hasn't changed - she has. He is stuck permanently, forgetting himself, the world, not quite growing up. Who is he without her? Who is he?

7. Please See My Lover

Song inspiration: Please Send Me Someone To Love by Fiona Apple + Buddy's Rendevouz by Father John Misty and Lana Del Rey

Jazz ballad, blues, strings.

She's gone. He turns to alcohol and dreams of memories that never happened. if he can't have her, he'll have materials, substance, and he will be remembered. Commentary on people's dependency on materials and lack of connections.

Song inspiration: When I'm On My Own You Are On My Mind by Labi Siffre + Interlude: I'm Not Angry Anymore by Paramore + That Funny Feeling (Cover) by Phoebe Bridgers

Acoustic interlude, fast-paced guitar driven, end with quiet strings and real external audio (of family, friends, news, etc)

Observations of the world, questioning his place as an artist in the grand scheme of things. Does this even matter? He's trying to move on from her. He sees the hope in people, humanity, but where is it in him? Is art selfish? He doesn't know. He knows we don't know either.

Alright, so there's hope. But right now, he's pissed and wants to dance. No more muse, falling out with his family, friends and he hates every song he writes - the star has turned to further substance abuse to cope. It's cool, though. Doesn't this guitar riff sound sick?

Drugs and alcohol are epic! Who cares he can't perform for a crowd (or in bed??) anymore! Bigger things to worry about. He feels insanely unloveable in a world of mass communication. Anyway, life sucks, but at least materials are cool. Capitalism doesn't suck all the time. The government has failed us and we've become desensitised, ignorant pricks. Next club?

R&B, neo-soul, gospel choir, jazz ballad.

He's wondering how she's doing. He can't remember how it all went down. He just remembers the feeling. He's starting to think adulthood is getting worse - drugs and aging are making it harder to make new friends. Was it always this hard making friends? He starts to reminisce of home, childhood friends. Do they remember him? Do they think of him when they see his name? Does he remember them?

Britpop, shoegaze, cinematic, pop-rock ballad.

On stage, vulnerable. This might be the only place he feels truly loved. No matter how much he forgets, he will never forget the feeling, the pure thrill, of performance. He pleads to the crowd to love him forever. Immortalise him. He reveals he has been hiding a new muse (he doesn't remember her), he won't make the same mistake (he doesn't know what it was).

13. Pistol (In My Hand)

Britpop power ballad, cinematic, hard-rock, slow buiild.

He's back where he started - not wanting to perform. He's crashing from the intense substance abuse. He wants to remember. He can't remember how it feels to be hugged anymore. This time he doesn't bite the bullet, and doesn't go out. He wants to call his dad.

Ends on a voicemail to his dad because he isn’t remembered.

END OF ALBUM.

Anyway, this was all for funsies. I'm excited for whatever album they'll release next, I am really pulling and praying for a bluesy/rock album. Get religious and political, have some epic references to mythology even, you know? Whatever they do, whether it's another 80s synth party, or electro ambience, or heavy metal, I'm sure they'll smash it out of the park.

3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

Hmm. I think it's "What's Sealed Away" (MLC). I was really proud of how I fleshed out what the show gave us about how a-Fei's amnesia works with aspects of my own lived experiences of having amnesia and tried to answer some questions that the show (possibly unintentionally) raised with some character decisions that happen later in that arc. I'm really pleased with the emotional range it covered and I really love the voice I used for it. There are some more lyrical passages from it that I sometimes go back and reread if I need reminders that I do in fact know how to write, no matter what my brain tells me. :D

13. How much planning do you do before writing?

Hah. 😅 Ummmmm. *nervous laughter * A lot. So much. So, whenever I write for a new fandom, I make a document where I write particularly characteristic lines of dialogue (and translate some of the lines myself if I feel like the translation is obscuring something), make note of what sorts of things they ask as questions vs state as assertions, how they express different types of emotions verbally, physically, etc. Basically, trying to capture a full model of them so that when I plot things and write dialogue, I can reference what they've done in the show and then make sure what I'm doing is in keeping with the show, or if it's different, then make sure that the differences are justified by something else that's happened in my fic.

When it comes to actually writing fic itself, I first do a really detailed outline that will have some chunks of dialogue as a part of it, but will mainly focus on the main scenes/beats that are the meat of the story: for a shorter fic, it's basically a very sloppy first draft and it includes emotional beats, choreography/blocking, internal monologue, etc. If it's a multi-chaptered fic, then I do an outline for the whole thing, then a detailed outline like I described above for each chapter. I'll also usually do a character outline to look at the growth or emotional trajectory I want to cover to make sure the pacing makes sense and that the things in my plot outline are showcasing the character-specific themes I'm invested in. Once I have my outlines, I'll do a fleshed out version of what I wrote there, and it usually takes 3-4 drafts before it's something I'm happy with (sometimes they are VERY different from each other and from the original draft and have involved TONS of rewriting.)

17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?

I researched the Drury Lane theater for a Hornblower fic; specifically, when its renovations happened, what the renovations included, what shows were done in which year, what concessions would be served, etc., so I could write a fic where Archie drags Horatio to see his first Shakespeare play. :D

Oh, and I spent SO MANY HOURS with Google Street maps to research Greenwich for Harboured and Encompassed; I especially spent ages watching videos and images of the Emerites Air Line (now the IFS Cloud Cable Car) for That One Scene. I was a little embarrassed to discover when I actually got to go on it several years later that they couldn't have escaped it the way I wrote it, but oh well! AU where the support pillars double as emergency exits! :D

29. Share a bit from a fic you’ll never post OR from a scene that was cut from an already posted fic.

I feel like most of my followers wouldn't be very interested in the scene I was contemplating sharing from the sequel to Harboured and Encompassed, so I guess I'll bend the rules a little and share an alternate version of an argument in a chapter that will be included in my long MLC fic (although it goes in a different direction so it doesn't include these lines):

Di Feisheng’s hands shook so hard Dao rattled in its scabbard. “This whole time, you thought I would kill you for a rematch?” Xiangyi scratched a spot near the bridge of his nose. “Not . . . the whole time,” he countered. “Just . . . some of it.” “Li Xiangyi!” he shouted, just barely keeping his voice steady. “I told you multiple times I wanted you to live!” “When you didn’t have your memories!” Xiangyi yelled. “That doesn’t count!” If Xiangyi didn’t believe he wanted him to live while he had amnesia, and he wouldn’t have changed his mind during the time he was pretending to work for Shan Gudao, then that meant– Oh. Oh gods, no. He swallowed until he was sure he could open his mouth without being sick all over the bed, took a long, slow breath that caught and snagged on every rib, and forced himself to look him in the eye. “Li Xiangyi,” he said, his voice shaking as hard as his hands, “When we drank wedding wine and fucked in the newly wed suite, tell me you didn’t still think I planned to kill you!”

Ooh, plural songs! We’re traumagenic and big Citizen Soldier fans and their song Madhouse feels a lot like our system.

These songs by them aren’t plural-coded, but Black Hole Brain has heavy dissociative amnesia vibes. This Is Not A Phase is a good middle finger to fakeclaimers (primarily about mental illness in general). You Are Not Your Past is a good motivator for overcoming trauma and someone even commented on the lyric video that they sent it to their DID support group

I think Sonamy in Sonic Frontiers is better than Sonic Prime. I feel like they kinda make Amy a villain. Seriously, I want my happy-cheerful Amy with Cindy Robinson voice 😭 (Amy's voice in Sonic Prime kinda a mean popular girl with sassy attitude's voice)

Em, although I see what you mean, I think they did a really interesting angle with Amy in Prime.

Frontiers Amy felt too much like Archie Amy, the Game version of Amy is usually very supportive of Sonic, a bit 'Quick on her Heels' to jump into things, true, but she's not so sassy. She does counter Sonic abruptly in a few games, but never to the point that it comes off as abrasively insensitive. (Personally, I think Amy is a bit spicy in her quick conflict starters in Frontiers 🙄 don't sue me lolol)

(Gosh, this moment makes me CRINGE. It was all GREAT, but then this moment happened. Amy should never be animated to this line, because it's completely not her, and the Japanese changed it, and thank goodness. It's so hurtful to say this, knowing that's not what Sonic is saying. Amy is insightful, it's one of the wonderful things about her, she's so attuned to the emotions of life. This scene made me squirm at how confrontational it was. Everything else was fine, but this. one. scene. Ruined Amy's chara for Frontiers for me. She's the SASSY one, not Prime!)

Amy has always been the 'heart' of the team. Sonic is the 'will' and 'soul', that 'Spirit of Freedom'. Knuckles 'Might/Strength and Honor/Duty working in tandem, and Tails the 'Humble Brain' that sometimes falls to thoughts of self-doubts due to idolizing their heroes.

In Prime, Amy is the emotional counterpoint for Sonic. Tails is the focal point of his comradery and bravery. Knuckles is Sonic's sense of heroism, positivity, and never giving up attitude.

Through his friends in Prime, we see more of Sonic's true character. He supports and uplifts his friends, is funny with his cocky attitude, struggles when things are in disarray, and seeks unity again--knowing he's stronger with it.

The disconnect in Boom--for the video game--was Sonic was a loner, not understanding that his pride looked like arrogance and got him into a lot of trouble. He learned that things were easier and better with his Friends.

In Prime, he teaches the audience once more that although he is STILL the infamous Sonic The Hedgehog, fastest thing alive, he's also vulnerable without his friends, and cares deeply for them.

Amy shows how all her lessons have distilled in Sonic a sense of compassion with his firece justice attitude. he's not--"I'm right, you're wrong." Anymore. He's "There's a better way." which is Amy's role to show the audience that side of him. (It doesn't matter, now what happens. I will never give up the fight~ Long as the voice inside, drives me to run and fight. It doesn't matter who is wrong or who is right~ - A Sonic Theme centered around Sonic's personality. Lyrics and Song: (x) )

Tails's role in Prime teaches honesty of character. Sonic has grown so attached to his 'man in the chair' but also sees Tails as so much more, he's his best friend, but he's never had to 'earn Tails's trust' before. In the backstory, Tails admired him as a hero. In this world, Sonic has to now earn and give that trust back tenfold--the fans often complained that Sonic wasn't always 'brotherly' to Tails like they wanted him to be, this is SEGA building a character arc to say, "Sonic also admires Tails" and appreciates and needs him. In the media of Sonic brand, we know that we've only ever seen Sonic inspiring Tails, now we see him fully immersing himself in uplifting his little buddy once more--showing how much Sonic has grown throughout the years as a character.

Even Shadow, Knuckles, and Rouge (Even Big ~Steadfast heart of gold!~) play a role in helping the audience see Sonic's 'True Character'. I felt it was written with a lot of care towards the true canon of Sonic and the casts character portrayals, although throwing them into an 'amnesia'-like clever trope to go through their 'characters' again in an entertaining way, that's just a personal preference of the script-writers in how they wanted to accuracy tell their view of the story and charas, but all the materials that make up their characters are still present and accounted for.

The writing is interesting, and there were times I actually FANGIRLED because I would have written THE SAME LINES if it were me in charge of dialogue. It was handled with more care than we've ever seen in the Sonic universe up to this point. (Referring to the string of some less-than-what-we-would-have-wanted stuff...)

I've lived through so many Sonic reboots, bad portrayals, and heartbreakingly bad moments as a Sonic fan... that seeing expert film script writers--I believe the same that worked on Marvel Spiderman or other comic-book titles who are HEAVY into lore--that Sonic's lore is finally being treated with respect and due research.

Is it made for kids? Sure. Was there a way to make the story for more our age audiences? Yeah. Did they do that? Not really, but that doesn't mean it's not a carefully considered love letter to the older fans as well.

Amy, in my humble opinion, had some interesting directions for Frontiers...

Amy in Prime, although they are ALL characterizations of 'spinoff versions' of their true selves, were--and maybe--are leading up to character arcs I feel I will probably approve of.

Why is this different? Why do I approve more of Prime--what should be considered a jump in fanfiction dimensions--verses a mainline game that supposedly should be more accurate of lore and character?

I never said that Frontiers didn't have lore! It had a great animated sequence showing off Knuckles, it had some great characterization moments with the cast and Sonic! Arguably a good few dramatic scenes of angst to boost too--though, that's not what's as important to me.

I want good story, good character, the works... what Frontier did was alright and good for being in a drought of long standing runs with no relief in a dry spell that Sonic has been trying to fight due to Sammy and other companies (watched a video on it, so much clarity!) not giving enough support to him--BUT!

Prime dives into the psyche of Sonic, and it has more emotional depth--in my humble opinion--of character-revealing moments of characters truly bonding and revealing their bond to the world, then Frontiers--which still had a nice blend--but not to the same extent.

How come?

One is a limited game with limited resources, the other was funded resources, given all the lore it could ever want and ask for, and braced itself for a narrative far longer than a few hours of skating on railings. (Not bashing gameplay, making a metaphorical 'tease' statement here.)

It's just differences.

Amy in Prime, seems more like Canon Amy's spirit, then Frontier's Amy... simply because Frontier's Amy didn't get enough screentime, presence, and greater bonding opportunities.

Prime Amys, though again, all separate and split 'pieces' are still 'pieces' nonetheless of the recognizable Amy Rose we've grown up with to love and know and love with assurity.

Yes, all of them. Because they are FOILS to Amy.

This one LITERALLY becomes Amy by the end of the episode! We just had to walk to get there, but we got there!

Does that mean Frontiers is worse or bad? No. Does that mean I hate Frontiers? No. Does that mean Prime is the supreme Sonic media in all the land? Again, no, stop that. You keep that kinda talk up, I'll lightly swat your hand and give you my best puffed-up, Amy pouty face you've ever seen! lol

Your argument, to me, is a discussion.

Is Amy portrayed as a villain? No. She's portrayed as a victim of circumstances where Sonic wasn't able to save her from becoming a damsel in distress. Is she a strong damsel in distress? Usefully, yes, because Amy's always been strong no matter what befalls or becomes her. Do they abuse that? Oh yeah! That's what makes this new idea of different versions of her so fun! She's one of the most versatile characters in Sonic media, simply because her personality, character role, and emotional motives are so much more vaster in starting plot points and meaningful, story and character driven narratives that she's one of the best dynamic writing tools to use in Sonic universes. All for Sonic's benefit? Well, yeah, that's one of her Character Roles, to reveal Sonic's 'merciful' side when it comes to fighting and destroying robots for his 'adventurous justice' streaks which I've discussed in earlier topics before.

(This scene sets up Rusty Rose as "Survived on her own, used by the Eggmans, all because she was distraught because there was no such things as 'heroes' so she tried to 'save herself'." it's the tragic Damsel in Distress that tried to save herself and couldn't. In this dystopia, what a better character setup do you propose!? She's a victim who fought her own battles and--without friends--failed and so she gave in and succumbed to 'No Hope' a GREAT foil for her chara! She tried hope! It didn't work! Just made her this... able to be manipulated and controlled, losing her 'heart' in the process... quite literally...)

She does help the team reveal some of their hearts too, it's not all just for Sonic's benefit, but for the most part, that is her reason for existing in Sonic's world.

Is Amy happy-cheerful in Sonic Prime? Yeah! Until someone split a stupid Prism and made a world without Sonic's influence in it! Is Cindy the only good voice actress for Amy? I'd argue based on my own childhood experiences someone else, so it's really about preferences, and I would have to say that it's a human decision made by many factors, and doesn't define Amy's character. How can I say that? Because Amy's original voice is Japanese, and I could argue that if we want to be hyper-canon-specific, there are fans who don't even know Cindy Robinson because Amy's always had a Japanese voice actor, and doing an English one is the 'fake' one, so let's not get into semantics XDDD lolol

I agree that Frontiers has spice to her that doesn't really equal Amy to me. Amy sure has some spunk and pizzazz, but not in a confrontational way. She's too kindhearted to argue for no reason, she defends and inspires in different ways that help Sonic and the team, even bad guys go good... There are flaws in her, sure, but not to spark contrasting conflict just 'because'.

Some may argue this was done in Frontiers to give her more of a 'story arc with rising conflict' but if you're struggling that much... yikes.

Besides, Japanese dub does Amy some real cool justice in Frontiers, and I love the part in the flashback where she's trying to stop the lover from getting herself hurt as she runs into the fray for the man-chaos-looking-creature that she loves. (Which, that whole story is debunked by Sonic Adventure 1 sooooooo...)

(Sonic being a good hero bf T//^//T We stan a PROTEC scene where Sonic cares about Amy, but when she gets too emotional, can hold her through it!)

I loved that scene! It's Amy realizing how people see her actions, how she 'runs into the fray after Sonic' but begins to question whether that's really right or not. She loves love, but recklessly tossing aside life due to unspoken feelings that were too late to speak, to shy to articulate, not enough time..?

She has a 'come to the light' moment where she admits she wants to learn more, mature, and make herself someone that Sonic can respect (In Japanese, which is a really good rewriting in my humble opinion of the original English written script.)

And to agree with you, Sonic DOES support Amy in seeing that sometimes, her actions and views on love are a little exaggerated and skewed, leading him to reach out and show his consideration of her by not calling her 'foolish' or 'reckless' but instead stating that he's excited to hear all about her adventure when she gets back.

He also has some unspoken things, but until Amy learns the difference between real love and fictional exaggerations taught to people who 'dramatically' view love, she may never be able to understand how much he truly does care about her... because she wouldn't view his 'subtle realism' as how someone 'madly, deeply, oh, truly in love!' would act because of her current perceptions on how love--and subsequently people in love--are like or act.

She realized that maybe, both Sonic and her friend, show and express love in different ways. That's why she's going to discover those 'different types of love', to understand Sonic and love better. This is a Coming of Age.

Frontiers needed more time in the oven, personal opinion with the respects that I'm not an authority figure on anything, and Prime could have benefited older Sonic fans by having its rating not made explicitly for younger audience's parameters, but they did good with what they could work with--with what limitations certain ratings bring.

Now, as a conclusion:

Both are good, but I prefer Prime due to having more 'story-focused' time to bake in the oven and show us characterizations with just enough time for us to bond and see the meaning in it, but I also liked Frontiers and their character moments, but wished for longer moments and less 'confusing' story elements to add to those interactions.

They knew.

Mingyu saw it first, but he wasn’t going to say anything. Then Soonyoung with his big mouth asked like, 5 of them if they’d seen it, and they nodded and muttered out awkward, “yeahs”. They’d all seen it and they all obviously knew what it must’ve meant. None of them had heard from you or seen anything on your social media up until the night you were out clubbing -- Seungcheol made a comment about how he hoped it meant you were feeling better and you weren’t just using partying as a coping mechanism -- so it was very clear to those who knew the situation what it was about.

Hansol, however, did not know the situation. But he knew something was up. You hadn’t talked to him in almost a month now, and then staff shows up with a box of stuff he had either left at your place purposefully, on accident but kept forgetting to grab it, or things he’d given you to keep. There was definitely more going on.

Despite keeping to himself, Hansol wasn’t stupid. He was observant. He could tell this wasn’t just some cover. There had to be a deeper meaning behind it when you were acting so strange.

“Do you guys...know anything?” he wondered when the topic was brought up to him on if he’d seen the video or not.

The members shared strange and worried glances. Soonyoung had opened his mouth, but Jihoon clamped a hand over it and pulled him into the couch.

“Shouldn’t you talk to her about it?” Wonwoo suggested.

“I would if she’d answer my texts,” Hansol said with a stressed chuckle.

“Maybe she just wants to be left alone...” Junhui offered quietly with a shrug.

Hansol wasn’t the type of guy to nag anybody. He could take a hint, so everybody knew he’d leave it at that.

“But...,” Mingyu spoke up with a sigh, “maybe it would be good for both of you if you talk to her.”

“I mean, I wasn’t gonna mettle, but...” Seungkwan muttered in agreement.

Hansol seemed a little unsure, asking, “Are you sure?”

Mingyu nodded, “Yeah. Positive.”

You curled up in bed and locked yourself in your room after all that. The whole day went by, and now that it was night, you were waiting for your members to come home from their various activities to scold you about your decisions. You were fine with them, though. You didn’t have anything to lose.

‘The pictures that you sent me they're still living in my phone; I'll admit I like to see them, I'll admit I feel alone; and all my friends keep asking why I'm not around.’

The music softly played through the speakers as the soft glow of your strip lights made your room feel a little more cozy and a little less lonely. But all you did was stare out the window that appeared black except for the few lights in other buildings. Sometimes you’d see a silhouette appear in one of them, so that was what kept you entertained. You refused to look at your phone. You knew that would be what caused you to snap, and you were still teetering on the edge.

Maybe snapping would be a good thing. Maybe you needed a good, hard breakdown.

You heard a knock at the door. It must’ve been a little hard for you to hear it in your room, so you wondered if maybe they’d been knocking for a while.

You sighed, but got up from your blanket burrito to go to your bedroom door.

‘It hurts to know you're happy, yeah, it hurts that you've moved on; it's hard to hear your name when I haven't seen you in so long.’

That was the last lyric you heard as you left your bedroom and walked to the front door, your music becoming just faint noise in the background.

Maybe one of the girls was back. Maybe they forgot their key or something. Or maybe the manager was coming to--

You opened the door and all the air left your body as you met warm brown eyes that were all too familiar. Brown eyes that were full of relief when he saw you, and then immediately concern when he took in your state.

“_____,” he breathed. God, hearing him say your name hurt so bad, “are you okay?”

You were at a loss for words. Your brain scrambled for anything to say, but that was simply a background process because the forefront of your brain was chaos seeing Hansol in front of you.

“What?” was all you managed to spit out.

He chuckled, but it didn’t seem happy, “You dropped off the face of the earth! I don’t hear from you for weeks, and then suddenly you’re sending staff to give me all my stuff back?”

You just stared at him, still trying to wrap your head around the fact that he was here. You were trying to get over him and now he was here. You had blocked him out of your life and now you were starting back at square one.

But then you registered: he was calling you out. He was wondering what the hell was going on. You were having to cross that bridge now.

This was the blow that would make you crumble.

“_____?” he asked when you didn’t answer, your eyes spacy as you stared at him. When you blinked and focused back after he moved his head to try to look into your eyes, he continued. “_____, what’s up with you? Tell me what’s happening, I’m so lost.”

“You’re lost?” you scoffed. “Dude, I’m lost!”

His eyebrows furrowed as he realized you were mad at him. He cocked his head to one side and asked, “What? _____, did I do something?”

“I don’t even know!” you burst. “We were all convinced you felt one way, but then you pull fucking Ivory out of left fucking field!”

“_____, I don’t understand...”

“I love you, you fucking idiot!” you shouted.

You snapped.

Hansol’s eyes widened as his jaw went slack. And the more you spoke, the more you could see things clicking into place in his head.

“I’m in love with you, and even your own fucking group thought you loved me, too! We all thought you felt the same because-- I mean, you know us! We were inseparable! But when I went to tell you the night of the ball, you came home with your secret girlfriend that you kept from everyone! And do you know how much that hurt to see you with someone else? And then I was expected to just, what, go back to normal? Hansol, I couldn’t even look at your face again! It hurts so fucking bad because I still love you!”

It was silent as you watched as Hansol’s features slowly turned to remorse as he started to understand what had happened. He looked like he felt so sorry for you, and it made you want to cry. But you had realized now that you were done yelling that you were crying already, and you wiped them away angrily with the sleeve of your sweatshirt. You weren’t even sure when your voice broke or got wobbly, but Hansol heard it all loud and clear.

“_____, I...” he paused, unsure what to say.

But he had to say something to you. He couldn’t just walk away when you were like this. He still cared about you.

You didn’t want him to, but he did.

“I’m so sorry I hurt you,” he told you softly. “I didn’t mean to--”

“I know,” you grumbled, still wiping away tears that kept falling when you blinked.

“I... I didn’t know you felt that way,” he said, and he looked slightly down with a look you couldn’t describe. Maybe nostalgic? 

But you didn’t have time to place it because it quickly changed to concern as his eyes looked into your glossy ones. His next words weighed on his tongue uncomfortably. 

“I appreciate the confession, but--”

He didn’t want to hurt you more, but what else was he supposed to say?

“--I have feelings for Ivory. I mean, she’s my--”

“Girlfriend,” you spat the word back at him before he could say it to you. He watched helplessly as your lower lip quivered. “You didn’t have to remind me. You didn’t have to tell me you don’t feel the same. I think everybody already knows.”

Before he could even think of something to say or do next, the door was slammed in his face.

You turned to walk away, but your legs turned to jelly and wouldn’t move forward. Instead, your back hit the door and you slid to the floor, knees to your chest as you let out ugly, broken sobs that Hansol no doubt heard on the other side of the door.

But whether he cared or not, he didn’t try to knock again. He didn’t call your name. Just silence from the other side.

Crumble, you did. Right there in your dorm, and right in front of Hansol. And unless you could actually somehow wake up the next morning and forget Hansol, you weren’t sure how long it would take for you to build yourself back up again.

gonna be a busy month but hopefully fulfilling!! the start of this year has been a complete mess for me but i think maybe its finally time to start living <3

JESSIE'S 2024 ROADMAP

So, I just wanted to ramble about the projects I have planned out for 2024. I've been very ambitious about some due to being able to afford to invest in them. Of course, art will forever be my #1 ambition and will continue to improve my craft. I'm always finding new ways to improve and exploring new ideas. However; I do have various non-digital art related! And I want to tell you all on my own personal blog about them and what you can look forward from me in the future!

MUSIC PROJECTS

I've actually been taking my time to figure out how FL Studios work, and how to work with it with Audacity. I've been attempting at voice training, so once I'm satisfied with my voice, I'd really love to do lyrics. I'm planning on working out something special for the first quarter of 2024. An EP called "Hear my Voice! (Existence)". I want it to be focused on the progress of HRT and Voice Training and just the idea of artistic freedom and the great feeling it is to be able to create things the way I want after being so long unable to. I don't know, 3 songs sound good for an EP. I want to be crafty and creative with them. I'd love for it to be Lo-Fi Pop Punk. As in, actual Lo-Fi, not the Synthwave kind of Lo-Fi. I want it to be the classic lower quality and lower frequency sounding music. I have a grudging respect for Lo-Fi and what it can represent, so I want to have my own take on it. The other project would be a proper album for once I get the hang of it all. I plan to call it "Celestial Wishes". I so far only have the plans for it to be Pop Punk and be very angelic sounding. I want it to be like heaven answering my wishes to finally do music. Obviously I won't sing about that-! I want it to carry the story of Ponies living life and miracles happening in various ways. How many songs ? God knows! It's only an idea thus far, and will take shape later. Right now I want to focus on making a couple of singles, maybe having one done in December still even. That and focusing on the overall theming and style I want for "Hear my Voice! (Existence)". I'll post all of these on a new Youtube Channel I've created, StardustJessie Music! Subscribe for when I start posting some!

I don't know how aware you are, but I do have a Youtube Channel. I primarily post Video Game Analysis Essays. I'm extremely proud of the ones I made this year, those being Deus Ex 2 and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Well, I have two more videos planned out! The first, POKEMON SUN & MOON ARE GREAT AND HERE'S WHY; Which I'm very ambitious and passionate about this idea. Everyone was very quick to defend Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon didn't get that same treatment. I want to be one to defend Sun & Moon, which I have a lot of argument for, and have a lot to say about its history and the state of pokemon in that age. I actually really hated S&M when I first played it and deeply regretted buying Ultra Sun (Which I still do.), so it's almost like a redemption arc for me! I'll have to gather up a shitload of footage though. Pokemon Red, Silver, Sapphire, Ruby, Diamond, Black, X, Alpha Sapphire, Red Team Rescue, Explorers of Sky, Gates to Infinity, Super Mystery Dungeon, Sword, Violet, Rescue Team DX, Sun, Ultra Sun, and more! These are just the pokemon games I'll have to record! Not to count other games I bring up as a precedent and examples like Persona 4 which is some 60 hours of gameplay! So yeah. It's a lengthy project. Thankfully I'm purchasing a 4TB HDD this week so I should be able to gather that much footage without a worry. I imagine I'll only have this done in a year or even 2025! It's a tough project. However; I want to also work on another video! MORROWIND WALKED SO SKYRIM COULD RUN (AWAY WITH MY MONEY); I really despite Skyrim for a lot of reasons. But I really love Morrowind. A lot of the things I see people praise Skyrim are things I genuinely believe they'd have a better time and enjoyment of those aspects if they played Skyrim. I believe I can actually get this video done in 2024 as these games are waaaaaaaaaaaay shorter than all the shit I have to play for a Pokemon project! But even then, Skyrim would be some 30 hours and Morrowind some 15, not to mention any other games I talk about. It's a great topic to analyse and I'll be very ambitious. I should get to write it sometime and have a W.I.P project in mid 2024 so it'll be my annual essay.

BOOK PROJECTS

I'm very interested in writing my own book honestly. Ever since I read Dracula I've considered writing a story that touches on similar themes and ideas and can evolve them further through the lens of 2024. I'm slowly taking shots at it. Sometimes I write a sentence or two. As any Tumblr Writer knows, it's very tough. Be on the look out! Once I have anything concrete I'll definitely post!

I believe this would be it! I don't have many individual projects, but they are ambitious and time consuming projects that I want to have done next year or have something substantial to show in 2024! There are more projects, like my Game Project which I'm very passionate about and have 74 pages of documentation of and still working on it! Since it's on very early planning stage I rather not talk too much. But maybe 2025 roadmap ? Thank you for reading this if you have at all! I just want somewhere to put all my ideas. Who knows. It'll be interesting in 2034 to look back to 22 year old me being so ambitious, while 32 year old me has those ambitions fully realised and onto new projects. This is almost like an archival of my personal artistic ambition and my passion for the crafts of Writing, Visual Arts and Music.

I haven't slept in days, but who's counting?

Konoha is tired.

Japanese, to math, to English, to practice, and restless nights built on anxiety and stress. He slumped into class, his vision spotting as he leaned his head on the desk, drowning out the lessons on English waiting for sleep to take him. The only place which lulls him to sleep is the desk as he falls further into stress trying to stay ahead. He hasn't slept well in days, but who's counting? Surely not him, his parents, or his team.

Why is it that his eyebags are seen as a badge of honor and not a cry for help?

"Konoha-" his friend poked him awake, a concerned expression all over her face. "Get up, before Professor Lin comes in-" she was shaking him awake, Konoha struggling as absent tears of exhaustion ran down his face. "Oh my god... Konoha? Are you alright?"

Konoha blinked a few times, turning his head and giving a small grin. "I'm awake, I'm good."

Bokuto is tired.

He trudges through volleyball practice as if it is his only lifeline. Nightmares keep him restless, waking him when he finally manages to fall asleep as he spends the rest of his night messaging peers for comfort or scrolling through older videos and pictures with Akaashi. He didn't think it would hit him as hard as it did, but being on the court didn't feel right. His teary eyes clouded his vision from time to time, and his spikes grew lackluster. "My name is Nila Rochester, I am one of the scouts for the MSBY black jackals. We're impressed with your work. I'll be coming to more of these games."

Bokuto nodded, rubbing his eyes in exhaustion as the adrenaline of the game died off. "Thank you."

Akaashi is tired.

He tosses and turns in that small hospital bed, waiting for any type of relief as this strange disease rocks his entire body. Shaking with tremors, shaking with fever, shaking from the constant coughing which left his voice as dead as the doctors predicted he would be within a few months. School was no longer a part of his life, not that he could focus for more than an hour at a time. His scholarship gone, his reputation destroyed, his whole-being utterly wrecked. He still held on to the friends who cared the most, Bokuto.

Why is it that he is always thinking of Bokuto?

There was nobody to save him, as he watched the clock in the room tick past the devil's hour in the room which only used the moonlight to illuminate his world view. Akaashi was exhausted, though his body never seem to give himself a break. He glanced out the window from his bed, seeing the stars. One day, he figured he would be up there. So would his friends and family, and they would meet again soon.

Akaashi had heard the doctors discussing a surgery with amnesia, simple overhearing, nothing too hopeful. He wonders if he has amnesia when he dies, will his soul still remember the life he's lived?
