Their not going to get away with banning porn. They didn't think it through.
Religious right-wing fascists have spent literally all of history trying to ban porn, outlaw certain types of sex, legislate and punish what people are and are not allowed to do in the bedroom, so forth and etcetera. This also has a long, LONG history in America, in keeping with MAGA's desire to take us back to the economic and social climate of the 1870s (look up the Comstock Acts). In the exceedingly, EXCEEDINGLY unlikely event a full-bore "porn ban" was ever to pass and be signed into law, it would instantly get the bejesus sued out of it by about eighty different organizations and entities on First Amendment grounds, and given that there is long legal precedent for such challenges about "obscene material," said lawsuit would very likely win.
As such, I'm not worried about that so much as the braindead online leftist chorus that will immediately start up with some drivel about how Fascists Trying To Ban Porn Is Aktually A Good Thing, Because Sex is Yuckicky and We Totally Aren't Puritan Reactionaries With The Name Changed. They will be affectedly or genuinely ignorant of the fact that when Republicans roll out their latest Anti Porn Crusade TM, they have no intention of actually stopping porn. What they really want is to target queer and trans identities, women, any material that opposes Trump, or anything else that can fit under the conveniently flexible label of "obscenity." They want to ban mainstream romance novels from public libraries and arrest people (read: women) from reading or writing it. They want to criminalize queer people's existence as "harmful to children," since that's also what they've done for literally forever, and lay the groundwork for outlawing any queer expression in public. They have very clearly stated their intention to attack birth control, contraception, and no-fault divorce, the next step after outlawing abortion, as part of their ever-more-crazed crusade to likewise force women back to the 1870s (see above) and have no options but to stay at home married and pregnant. They have not been particularly subtle about this.
As such, any Republican "porn ban," however useless it ends up being, will receive scads of support from said online leftists vigorously insisting that it is somehow a good thing, for reasons. This will once again provide it cover and reframe it as Actually A Righteous Attack On Those Nasty Wrong Sex Havers (Ew). It will get derailed as people blubber insane straw men arguments about Why Can't We Just Punish Evil Sex Crime Doers! All of what it actually means will be ignored, swept under the carpet, or idiotically defended. And that is yet again the problem, because there is literally no Good Censorship that magically leads to a More Morally Pure Society. The people who think that are just as deluded as the Republicans, and it will once more make everything far more stupid than it need to be. Then again, this is the stupidest timeline, but still.

If the policies of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. aren’t reversed, “a lot of Americans are going to die as a result of vaccine-preventable diseases.”
Unfortunately, that quote is not attributable to Chicken Little. Instead, it’s the opinion of Dr. Fiona Havers, formerly a top scientist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, who resigned from the agency Monday.
In her first interview after leaving, Havers told the New York Times that Kennedy’s attacks on science and how science is conducted will have dire consequences.
“It’s a very transparent, rigorous process, and they have just taken a sledgehammer to it in the last several weeks,” she said. “CDC processes are being corrupted in a way that I haven’t seen before.”
At the CDC, Havers oversaw the team that collects data on COVID-19 and RSV hospitalizations and helped craft national vaccine policy.
In a goodbye email to her colleagues that was seen by Reuters, Havers said she no longer had confidence that her team’s output would “be used objectively or evaluated with appropriate scientific rigor to make evidence-based vaccine policy decisions.”
Kennedy’s attacks on vaccination, coupled with the shocking firing of all 17 members of the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices earlier this month, helped persuade her to go.
The health secretary has since named eight replacements to the influential panel. Among them are a scientist who criticized COVID-19 vaccines, a critic of pandemic-era lockdowns and another person the Associated Press described as “widely considered to be a leading source of vaccine misinformation.”
“I could not be party to legitimizing this new committee,” Havers told the Times.
“I have utmost respect for my colleagues at CDC who stay and continue to try and limit the damage from the inside,” she added. “What happened last week was the last straw for me.”

White Hair and Trauma Brawl Round 1; Poll 1

remember, voting is based on swag, trauma, and favoritism!!
trauma and propaganda under the cut!
Trauma!
Klaus: Classic haver of Dead Wife Disease
Sage:
-parents' fate unknown but for some reason he and a friend took a boat to the coastal city Porrima, possibly hoping for better life conditions
-only to end up living their childhoods as orphaned wharf rats stealing to stay alive, a fate shared by many of their kind (aka the ilephta) who weren't born into nobility
-get caught red handed one time but it's okay bc there's this stranger who vouches for him and takes him under his wing
-together with his childhood friend (Balsam) and their new friend (Lucan), they start a gang called the griefers, which provided a community for the ilephta who suffered like them, while also becoming the muscle that protects the city when the knights were preoccupied with war efforts against the Lord of ShadowsTM
-the leader of the Starsworn knights (Gramme) recruits Sage to spy on the griefers because he has reason to believe there's corruption running amongst them, and Lucan allows it so that Sage can spy for him while pretending to be a spy for the Starsworn. So basically a double agent
-he gets a cool magical sword out of it
-much to his dismay, Gramme was right; the monster dubbed by the people as the Red Wraith ie the culprit behind the murders happening in town was no other than Lucan
-he wanted to cleanse the town of the unjust leaders and cops, but under the influence of magical corruption he turned into a monster that tore into anything in his sight, and that included Sage when he confronted him
-Sage is forced to drive his sword into his longtime friends heart, a scene that will haunt him for the rest of his life, and puts a target on his back--his own friends now turning on him for killing their leader
-so now he's on the run
-without a leader, the Lord of Shadows easily swoops in and takes control of the griefers promising them vengeance if they fight for him... only to get them addicted to the same corruption lucan was suffering from
-not only did Sage's found family turn on him, but now even his Starsworn buddies hate him for running away from the battle where they /will/ defeat LOS but not without losing all their soldiers but two
-and on top of that Lucans sister Elowen is out for Sage's head, thinking that he was the Red Wraith the whole time and that he killed her brother for the hell of it
-Sage is forced back into adventure after the LOS returns 5 years later but his sword--which once resonated with his desire to protect the people he loves--is broken and no longer answers to him
-trying to investigate Elowen and her connection to LOS, Sage finds his old friend Balsam, who still believes that Sage was a traitor and under the influence of corruption, tries to attack Sage and MC. Sage has to kill yet another friend
-this whole time Sage has been getting magically corrupted too, he's just been avoidant about it
-eventually he'll watch the LOS "kill" MC before his eyes, which only furthers his deterioration
Propaganda!
Klaus: Most traumatized version of Santa Claus that I could think of
Sage:
-middle-aged chronically-drunk bisexual cat-wolf-man with a magical sword
-flirts with anything and everything but gets awkward when the energy is returned
-will chase a laser pointer
-allergic to shirts
-haunted by the memory of the friend he killed
-has a blacksmith adoptive sister that he first met when they were homeless kids fighting over a street cake; how he went from that to adopting her as his younger sister is beyond me
-everyone wants him dead and the one person who doesn't want him dead thinks he's already dead, almost beats his ass when she finds out he's not dead
-gets a cool emo makeover with an eyepatch after he reaches the final straw of trauma, along with a monster transformation <33

Hey guys,not dead btw
Today I'll just answer some questions from the straw page ☆☆☆

Me myself ? No, idk how tf manage one, but that would be cool. I thought about making one for my VN, it would be to interact abt everything (idk if people would like to join tho, again idk how to manage one)

Hmmmm good question, i don't think she would waste time hating someone but she sure as hell have some grudge with 💫strade💫 (you would have too if you we're her)

thank you for the OP x homestuck meta lore you're doing God's work. I was really into homestuck in the prime time and I'm watching through one piece now. I especially love the jade kujas and will of d havers being lime. I made my husband upset by saying I want to put you under a microscope and study your brain.
lol thanks?? i got into homestuck years before checking out one piece, so i started the series and immediately tried classpecting characters. even my first thoughts about zosan was “oh my god this is a textbook kismesis” 😭
i was gonna say every person with d in their name is lime, but i wasnt sure. i think itd fit tho! i was just like “oh what if theres too many limes cause of that” lmao. but yeah since limebloods were natural enemies of the empress, then itd make sense because those with the will of d are natural enemies of the celestial dragons
i hyperfixated on EVERY aspect of homestuck, so trollifying and classpecting other characters comes naturally to me. maybe ill make a post explaining why i classpect the straw hats what i gave them when im not as busy. stay tuned chat
…might draw art????

Yeah the 8x15 ending was awful but as a long covid haver I think my actual final straw was having to sit through a two-episode arc that proclaimed “using the entirety of the only known cure for an incredibly deadly disease on one man and risking an outbreak of the worst pandemic the world has ever seen is good and heroic actually”, like no one in the writer’s room thought maybe that was a little distasteful? A little incredibly disrespectful? A little way too fucking soon?
#being on team ‘let them all die for the greater good’ did not improve the watching experience I’ll say that much#I can’t even express how disgusted I feel#it’s like. I’m just speechless#and all that just to kill off a beloved character in an incredibly stupid and jarring way for shock value. I fucking guess#I genuinely thought peter krause had chosen to leave the show for some reason and they had fo hastily write him off#the lure of ‘buddie’ canon is not enough to keep me on here. like I actually don’t care#I’ll finish the season to see it through and then I’m done#911#911 spoilers#attys yapping ✨🌷💞

2023 Character Wrap
Top 9 characters for the year.
1.) Major Anthony P. Havers-BBC Ghosts
aka my soft boy.
(Surprise the self-proclaimed Havers lunatic loves Havers 😉) Just know this man stole my heart in 2021 in under 4 minutes (the microexpressions fml) and this year it was my highlight to see him again. He's kind, protects the man he loves from ridicule, has a boyish grin and a cheeky streak. He likes dancing. He fell for his beau because he was attracted to his kindness. He's been through it and continues to go through it 😢Also PSC answered my question about him and I'm still screaming about it to this day🥺💖
2. The Captain -BBC Ghosts
aka my creaky boy.
He is silly, kind, gay and autistic, a dad, sometimes bitchy and one of my most beloved characters ever. Also so gorgeous and a little bit pathetic. I adore him with all my heart and soul. Blorbo from my shows.
3. Thraxus Boorman -Willow 2022
Sarcastic, great fighter, loyal, kind but he'll jump of cliffs to deny that (literally), the funniest character of 2023 and an absolute iconic bi disaster. He's a classic rogue, as is his absolute badass girlfriend.
4.) Joe Pritchard -The light in the hall
aka Joe, babes
Such a brilliant character, somehow really dark and mysterious but ultimate kicked puppy vibes. He'll keep you (and himself) guessing until the end if he really killed someone. He has amnesia due to traums. I really wasn't sure until the end if he did it or not. Amazing character. My Boy needs 1 million hugs.

5.) Graydon Hastur-Willow 2022
aka Graydon, babes aka Prince of darkness
A prince who loves learning esp. languages, very, very dark past, kind, loving, just some guy in love, easily corrupted but he's fighting it. and as it turns out he has a gift for magic. The sweetest love confession ever.
6. Barbara Parker/Sophie Straw-Funny woman
Gorgeous, hilariously funny, smart, sweet, standing up for what she believes in and makes her way in an industry that only treasures her because of her looks. But she makes them see how brilliant her brain is.
7. Sir Humphrey Bone -BBC Ghosts
aka Humphrey my goldhaas
Awkward, kind and odd. He deserves all the love in the world and to be seen and loved for who he is. This year he's getting revenge on those who ignore/mistreat him and I am here for it. Boy is not the best listener though.
8. Lord Adam Quinn -A kind of spark
aka my pretty evil princess
He is legit evil okay. But idgaf. Great villain and his modern day equivalent makes me weak in the knees. Portrayal wise he is also a small amount of ridiculous and I love that.
9. Robin the caveman - BBC ghosts
aka my chaos gremlin
Kind, wise, chaotic little gremlin also sometimes more the family dog than anything else. Loves space. Utterly hilarious and tragic at the same time. His worst trait is incest according to him. I love him so much I'm gonna get a tattoo that's just about him.
To be fair I have a plethora of beloved characters that rotate in my brain 24/7 but these nine were either new or in special focus this year. Ghosts hyperfixation is at it's absolute peak, I was barely able to watch anything else. Also I watched some things that didn't leave me with a favourite character 🤷🏻♀️However honourable mention has to be Allan from Barbie.
I'm tagging @hollow-ghost-fire , @unusual-ly ,@ineffablelunatic , @tonightwedance and @realismreading

all dogs go to heaven (fiction bar on a wednesday night)
march 6, 2025
there was love and lore in the air at the junkyard dog release party at fiction bar on wednesday night. there were lavender gimlets straight up and cam corder confessionals and dusty dvd player technical difficulties. i moved here in pursuit of a scene, a sense of belonging denied to me by waco texas. the new york type shit like andy warhol velvet underground patti smith bob dylan talking heads meet me in the bathroom lcd sound system strokes indie sleaze sex and the city subcultures and all the likes. music is communal. it’s all art! takes miles!
i always longed to leave a dual legacy of musician and and and community builder… party haver people gatherer….socialista fabulist (working title) i just wanna bring people together i wanna point at all of them under one roof and say look around really look at each others eyes so talented and creative and gorgeous i wanna open your heads and harvest ur thoughts ok down girl
i have now released 3 songs and thus had 3 parties. once upon a time when i was a dj and a south williamsburg subletter i frequented a bar / coffee shop called fiction:
fiction with the hot bartender avery. fiction with the two CDJ players from different decades. fiction with the tiny cocktail straws that i drink my iced honey oat milk latte with instead of the paper straws offered adjacently. fiction with the eclectic decor that one of my friends remarked “haunting” about last night.
sometimes id do laptop work here during the day and sometimes at night i was a knock off The Dare adorned in bolo tie monikered The Mare. i love this place and luckily it’s requited because dom the owner of fiction bar loves me. well at least he loves the business i bring him :,)
as i’ve piled up release parties held at fiction i find myself feeling 10 years older and reminiscing through a decades eyes as to what im building and what i have right now right in front of me. my coveted scene. my corner of brooklyn my music and my people my my my i’m so lucky i don’t even need the pennies i think. they’re going extinct anyways!
i released junkyard dog this week and despite being the most verbose ho on the planet i’m lost for words to talk about this song in particular
i rattle off aphorisms like “it’s never too late to have a good childhood” and “every dog has its day” but i don’t have something pithy and insightful to shed
instead i think about last words.
andy warhols last words were: “my words are Andy Warhol” ……….G
and lou reeds were “take me out into the light”
i hope my last words are funny.
i hope my words last and don’t just become airport fiction.

ok, so do you know what five pebbles would be if not a rot haver?
he would be a historian.
he loves history. moon obviously has a more negative view of their creators (for good reason) but... five pebbles loved not only his creators, but their pre-void fluid culture! he loves studying the past! if he was not forced to study a solution, or if the sliver of straw incident never happened...
well, i could see him being someone nice to talk to!
he would love to infodump about history and all the ancients if he didn’t have the rot

S1E9: “Of Mouse And Man”—A (Watched 2/29/24)
“It’s people’s lives falling apart—What’s left when the good times are over. It’s the death of dreams.” – Hank, doing his best True Detective impression, describing a junk shop
My feelings about this episode of Grimm evolved very much like how they did for “Game Ogre,” with a sense that it just got better over the course of the runtime. The difference is that “Of Mouse And Man” has noticeably fewer issues that ultimately undermine its more interesting aspects for me. Further, while “Game Ogre” has noteworthy elements that mostly work within the full context of the series—and this episode does have some of those too—“Of Mouse And Man” also tells its own more complete and compelling fairy tale story using the fantasy and procedural elements, similar to “Bears Will Be Bears” and “Let Down Your Hair,” which is what pushes it even higher.
It starts with just some competent little bits of execution, like the tense opening scene with its orange and sickly green lighting, which is a sort of signature color scheme for the series. There’s a shot from inside the dumpster where the body du jour is… dumped that has the lid closing at night and then, without an obvious cut, opening again on daylight and a garbage truck.
Hints of mouse-ish-ness in an episode about mouse people are also seeded consistently throughout: Both the Marty and Natalie roles feel like they were cast looking for actors with a somewhat mouse-like appearance, and the Natalie character’s last name is even “Haver” “straw,” but she’s not actually a Wesen and is a symbolic rather than literal mouse. There’s an exchange between Nick and Juliette at one point where he calls raccoons “rodents,” which Juliette argues is untrue and says “We’re all mammals here.” As a second body is being dragged to a second dumpster, we see a sign on said dumpster literally depicting a mouse. During the climactic engagement with Marty at his junk shop, there’s a large doorway that looks very much like a giant traditional mouse hole, with the ragged edges along the wall as if it were chewed.
When Marty is really finally feeling himself and he takes Natalie out to dinner, he says, “You got to think bigger, Natalie. The only thing that’s holding you back is you,” which is fun dramatic irony since he’s obviously talking about himself too (or even primarily).
The choice to have each of Marty’s victims briefly turn into his father is a fun visual twist that starts so subtly that I wasn’t even sure what I was seeing. I noticed that the first victim’s face looked different at one point in the opening, but then I thought it must have just been some quirk of the lighting or something when the corpse looked normal later. It becomes more obvious and prominent as the episode goes on, culminating in Marty seeing that same face on every man at the restaurant where his final breakdown begins. This scene ends up being genuinely unsettling in a way the show’s fleeting horror elements often aren’t. It doesn’t feel like an original concept, but the way it builds all episode is very nice and works well. That Marty ultimately becomes abusive toward Natalie—a woman he wanted to save from domestic violence initially—and then sees himself as his father in the junk shop mirrors during his standoff with Nick and Hank just makes for such a satisfyingly complete-feeling arc.
“I know who you are,” Nick says to a felled Marty, by which he means a Wesen, but Marty is too far gone to understand and takes it more generally, tragically: “Oh, no, you don’t. Nobody does. Nobody knows me.”
“At least I know who you are,” Juliette says to Nick as well at the end. Which is more dramatic irony, perhaps in more than one way at once, since A) she’s doesn’t, actually, and B) it echoes that earlier line that we heard but she didn’t.
It’s just all really good! The domestic violence is described but not depicted, which makes this not as queasy (in maybe a bad way) as it could have been. And there are still other fun details or elements as well, like a chatty landlord character and especially like Juliette doing her own little investigation into who’s spying on her house and Monroe ending up in a surprise B/C plot that ultimately affirms his own agency as well—that he will continue working with Nick because he wants to and not because he’s been pressed into it. If there’s a negative in there somewhere, they probably could have explicitly connected Juliette’s extreme vigilance and desire to protect herself and Nick back to Oleg Stark attacking them in their home in the previous episode to make this feel more powerfully like character development for her.

can you tell me about harvey dent :-)
oh my beautiful wife with a disorder. im gonna talk about him under the cut. potentially ableism warning jic?
talking about him in his actual source: its very interesting to see the different reasons given to harvey for "becoming evil", i would say they usually fall into the categories of: he has DID, he has OCD, he has schizophrenia or psychosis, he was already fucked up and that was his last straw, he was good but the attack was his last straw.
personally, as much as i would normally dislike giving an evil person a stigmatized disorder i do prefer when the writers give him DID &/or OCD (as a DID & OCD haver) over him just deciding to become evil? especially if it feels like harv isn't an "evil alter" so much as more invested in himself and being willing to do more fucked up things to help himself. particularly i think batman the animated series did his origins best but thats not a controversial take by any means. in my own personal desires i wish he wasn't just a villain and more of a morally gray figure which would make him being mentally ill feel less...bad... but ultimately they wont change that and will keep him going back and forth on his recovery because DC hates change
in general i think the ones that play with bruce and harvey having some prior relationship (work or genuine friendship) are the best because it gives the character a lot more tragedy. i dont remember which specific comic this is but i know one of them established them as childhood friends which controversially im not the biggest fan of? i think i enjoy it more when they became acquainted in adulthood it feels more tragic in some way. im honestly surprised DC doesn't utilize the character more considering how much drama they can do with him and bruce but i also dont want them to use him more because i dont trust most of the writers </3
speaking about him on an F/O level: thinking about him learning to love again is very nice because hes fairly often written as believing he is no longer lovable after becoming two face, whether due to his facial difference or due to the existence of other parts/alters. my s/i leon used to be 1 person but was split into two people which i think is a very interesting dynamic with harvey since they both have to deal with the concept of having more than one "self" (though there's a physically separate version of leon as opposed to just dissociative barriers). i think he'd especially be able to bond over the fact that leon was in some sort of way made to be the "bad one", taking on the traits associated with deviance, which means they both struggle with feeling like they dont have the control to choose to do the right thing.
im in love with harvey and if i think about him too long i get emotional but <33333

most versions of The Three Little Pigs piss me off bc the whole thing feels like one big colonialist sentiment ("us brick house havers are so much better than uncivilized ppl with their houses made of sticks and straw") but I really like the version my son has. the first two pigs aren't stupid or lazy or careless, they use straw and sticks because that's all they had available to them, and the third little pig gets bricks because they were given to him. he isn't better than them, he just had his resources handed to him.
