As of... actually several episodes ago but more so on this episode, I'm starting to think there's something (a reason/correlation?) to the anime not going all out on the animation (youd think ep23 part 1 would have gotten more attention) or when its not doing a 100% panel-for-panel adaptation of the manga (ie cutting out gags and some other parts)

Its almost like the anime is slightly just a little maybe advertising the manga? but idk, you dont really get this feeling if youve never read the manga. It only torments those who have who know what's in the manga that the anime-only's are missing out on. and there's also the dungeon tidbits that dont/havent been adapted that expand more on the story.

lets be real tho, some things in the manga just would not translate as effectively into anime. (ie the manga covers that look raw as all hell)

tl;dr i have a feeling the anime is not doing the manga 100% perfect justice because animation restraints AND it wants you to read the manga as well.

I've actually been thinking about that too. But objectively I think the dungeon meshi anime is effective/overall good adaptation of the manga.

The feeling of "NOO IT'S MISSING X THING" as far as I can tell is only for people who have read the manga, everyone else doesn't seem to feel there's a lack of quality. I call it the cursed knowledge of the manga lol.

From what I can tell they have been pacing themselves within their budget/time constraints and focusing on what the medium of animation can serve the best to compliment the manga, which is action scenes, they seem to be focusing most of their efforts into giving us BREATHTAKING animations during the action and honest I LOVE IT.

But another thing I've been noticing is how much content Ryoko Kui does related to the anime? Like the merch, the blu-ray boxes the collabs. Is that something common at all? The manga author doing so much content related to the anime of their work?

this is just me talking out of my ass with no research here but i saw @lambmotifz mention my comment (:D) about Dean and Sam being Adam/Eve coded and make some really good points about Sam being in the 'temptress' role and the forbidden fruit motif

and it's got me thinking again like. there are so many comparisons.

Sultan Kalim x Rani Reader Brainrot

After writing this one (here). I can't help but wanna write more about how you, as the reader became queen, it's such a good idea for me and I didn't even think that I would be brainrotting about Kalim again, there's a lot of ideas about Kalim in my head that it's overloading. Just imagine, Future Sultan Kalim always being followed around by Jamil, of course, he can't really have him doing stupid stuff and hurting himself, and he meets you! A woman from another region who just happened to bump into him, a crazy coincidence right? you weren't from around here, just a tourist who just so happen to meet THE Kalim Al Asim. He didn't disclose his identity to you just yet, cause he forgot, Jamil was gonna apprehend you cause out in public, that kind of "action" would have you stoned. Luckily, Kalim was quick to react, laughing it off and talking to you so casually, leading you away from the prying eyes of his citizens. You really tried to understand a word he was saying since you haven't mastered Arabic yet. and that's where you and him started to (desperately) communicate with each other, Jamil being the poor third wheel who translates what you say, and what Kalim says. I feel bad for him, imagine the flirtatious stuff Kalim tells you when you're both more comfortable, and he just wants to bury himself and die. In order to get out of the "Third wheel translator" situation, he tried his best to teach Kalim English, which was surprisingly fast, around 5 months, he could speak fine without Jamil and understand what you blabber often. MHA Dekus Character Arc in the Epilogue (Spoilers for Ch. 425 Ahead)

Since reading Chapter 425, one thing that has been bugging me is Deku's demeanor and behavior. Throughout the entire chapter, he hasn't smiled once, even during moments when he would normally be happy, such as the Big Three's graduation or Shinsou joining Class 1-A, now 2-A. The rest of the cast behaves as they usually do, making it odd that Deku, who is typically very positive and good-spirited, seems so sad and empty, unable to enjoy time with his friends. So, why is this happening? Here are my thoughts.

I think his attitude and demeanor have shifted because of:

The Guilt He Feels for Tenko's Death: Deku is indirectly, or even directly, responsible for Tenko's death since it was caused by transferring One for All to him, leading to the destruction of Shigaraki's body. Although he managed to save Tenko's soul, he couldn't save his body. This failure weighs heavily on him, especially since he was adamant about not killing him. All Might's words couldn't completely alleviate this guilt. Tenko's last words to Deku were along the lines of, "Make sure you do your best, so what happened to me never happens again, and everything I destroyed as Tomura Shigaraki wasn't for nothing." He wants Deku to rebuild a society where villains like Toga, Dabi, and himself never come to be, where heroes save them at the right time. Now, it's on Deku to rebuild a lasting society that isn't easily destroyed.

Witnessing His Friends' Pain: During the graduation ceremony, Mirio mentioned that they don't even get to start at zero and that the bright future where everyone can be happy isn't a goal reached today. Deku has seen his friends, like Uraraka and Todoroki, sweep their pain under the rug, not talking about it and dodging conversations by saying they're fine. It must hurt Deku to see his friends doing what he used to do—hiding their pain to avoid worrying others, even though they are hurting inside.

Losing One for All: Even though he voluntarily transferred it to Shigaraki, losing One for All is still painful, especially after all the effort he put into mastering it. In the hospital, he said he was fine and smiled for Bakugo to prevent him from feeling sad and worried. Despite this, Deku likely feels empty inside, having lost his "personality" (a literal translation for "kosei," meaning Quirk in Japanese). Deku began to think that what made him special and useful to others was his Quirk, feeling like an empty wooden puppet used by others. His entire self-worth was built around One for All.

Achieving His Dream: By his selflessness, self-sacrifice, and defeating All for One, Deku became the world's greatest hero in the eyes of All Might, someone he admires deeply. He rallied thousands behind him, cheering him on. Deku even mentioned that he lived his crazy dream and saw it come to light. Like every shonen protagonist, he reached his end goal. Now, he feels directionless, with no new heights to reach since he has already peaked during his fight against Shigaraki. What can he do now, now that he is quirkless again? Throughout his high school career, he did everything for others, never acting out of self-interest. He sacrificed his Quirk and bright future so the heroes could win the final war, the only one who could do it. I believe Deku's bright future would have been continuing as a hero with his friends, but without a Quirk, being a hero is too dangerous. Even though he still has the embers, they will eventually run out, rendering him practically defenseless in the eyes of hero society.

These feelings cause him to feel empty inside, with nowhere left to go and nothing left to do. He questions why he wanted to be a hero in the first place in a society that wasn't what he thought it was. Why did he go down a path that left him physically and mentally scarred for life? Was everything he did worth it, even if it leaves him feeling empty and unhappy in the end because his hero's journey came to a premature end? For whose sake did he do all this if not for himself? What is his finish line, his new dream, now that his original one is achieved?

This is where Deku's character journey will come full circle. Once he finds those answers, he will know which direction to take and how to move forward to his new shining future. For perhaps the first time in his life, he will do something for himself, something that makes him happy. He will realize his worth never came from his Quirk or usefulness to others but from who he is as a person. His personality is what makes him special to so many people, how he goes above and beyond to make others smile and be someone they can rely on during difficult times. That is what makes Deku a true hero, in my opinion.

Sorry for the long ramble; I just needed to get this off my chest. I've been thinking about it for a long while, even before the newest chapter came out. The new chapter kind of confirmed my gut feeling about the direction Horikoshi is taking with Deku's character, and I'm excited and a bit sad to see Deku's character arc finally conclude. This would've gotten finished sooner, but we've been sick as a dog for most of the tournament's runtime, so we're calling it a victory that we managed to get anything done - there are a lot fewer contestants this year, which means both less art to do and more ability to commit to trying to make some particularly unique creature designs - there are some in this batch that we REALLY want to do justice, and that is... unfortunately hard to do when we're barely functioning for two hours a day. This is our unofficial call to STAY HOME when you're sick! Even if you're feeling sturdy enough to go out and about, your actions can impact those around you very easily.

[This is the first time I've met someone who "worked in Snakemouth" since that one... weird encounter, with those roaches giving me a job offer. I didn't know that they had a security guard position. I... didn't know that they knew what a security guard even is, honestly. To have two bugs involved with the lab turn up is an incredible coincidence. I wonder if the time portal is actually open again, or if different universes just work on different timeframes?

Regardless, it's a good opportunity to advance my knowledge of partial transmutation and multi-organism transmutation. Whatever happened to that moth in the last tournament... my understanding of how to handle both symbiotes and parasitism is clearly incomplete, if running into multiple organisms can cause problems like that. Omelette from @tangleslime2 was one that felt... obvious, we suppose?Your work will one day consume you, and such - one way or another! More literal in this case. A lot of the work here, honestly, is toying with shapes and body language. Omelette has a LOVELY sillhouette with some extremely identifiable clothes, and translating it to a zombee design was Very fun. Maybe a bit plain on the design side, but the linework was incredibly fun to do - we got to do a whole lot of fur, which is always a fun time. This design was very quick and easy, as designs go, and we had a lot of fun doing the hat. Wildly askew, and held on by but a single antennae!

Sundew and Nerine from @mizzle-moths are untransmuted, as requested - Sundew's pose was very fun to do - nice and fluid, though the wing markings were admittedly a bit funky to parse. We hope we got all the details correct here! Both of your bugs have gorgeous color palettes. Our usual marker set's dark gray marker's dried out by now, so we had to use an alternative, which... unfortunately bled clean through our sketchbook page. Lesson learned, we suppose. The scribble over the eyes used the same pen that we did our linework with - the "scribbling over the eyes of a dead character" trope is very well-worn, but cliche only becomes cliche because it inspires enough people to follow in the footsteps of a story, and we're very fond of the way it adds to the... hmm, visual language? We just think it's neat. Hope you enjoy!

[...working with spirits and more immaterial forms isn't my area of expertise, but it's something i dearly need experience in. My hope is that by advancing my knowledge in this field, I might be able to apply the knowledge to other fields that evade me - anything inanimate has proven to be my bane, and I'm fairly certain that a few of my attempts into this area have produced "hauntings", when they're not producing incredibly specialized organisms. Maybe if I know how to cause a haunting, I can figure out how to not cause one...?]

Moving on to our beta design - that is a VERY rough draft of Beera from @longeth-dayv. Given by the obvious Luigi's Mansion inspiration, we wanted to run with it by pulling our inspiration more directly from a Luigi's Mansion enemy - mostly, this meant tinkering with sillhouettes while trying to figure out what sort of design would match best to the character, and how to translate a design to something recognizable.

The pack, despite its significance character-wise, doesn't have quite as much weight in the balance of the design, which meant more tweaking for the transformation - though we briefly tried toying with the pack itself for this design, that particular page we felt would skew a bit too close to body horror for your personal comfort, so we scrapped the idea. Better safe than sorry, as they say. As such, we're aiming more towards using wire and body language to drive recognition.

The image here is a loose draft based on the bats enemy, used to test the fade and layering of the highlighter we were using - as it turns out, it doesn't layer very well! We started out looking for electric enemies, but we only really turned up the Electric Oozer, and that... was a bit too close to "normal boo" for our personal tastes, so we swapped to just primarily yellow enemies. Though we were previously considering taking the bat design to final draft, actually putting it out on paper convinced us to the contrary, so we went back to the... sketchboard. We'd bet there's a good chance you can already figure out where we're going with this one. A fun design challenge, for sure!

Finally (at least for this particular evening), we offer you this: a look behind the scenes, (or at least, the scenes that don't involve "us being sick and struggling to communicate whether or not something is sorted with the other mod"). What we've been using to keep track of matches, as well as to draw lots. Not precisely a high-tech solution, but damn if it doesn't work - the ends here are split into two for the sake of a loser's bracket, which we... thought we had figured out, but then it turned out we've been having miscommunications on what the bracket setups even are, and, well...

...we're working on it, we'll say. It might still be integrated, but that'll have to wait 'til trying to do things doesn't require fighting for our life. We will probably rerandomize the brackets for it, we might use it for illustration practice if the contestants are cool with it, so on and so forth. As always, thank you for your patience - we hope that Round 2 encounters slightly less hitchups compared to Round 1.

hm. it Does vary wildly, both depending on quality, how used to scribbling a thing i am, and how well the art-mojo is flowing! on a bad night, a simple sketch could take an hour while the same sketch on a good night could take 15 minutes

and it's also hard to say since i don't really keep track! for example, The First One in this collage is a more involved sketch and i suspect it took thirty minutes maybe? i remember having some Difficulties so maybe longer? trying to get size differences between multiple characters in the same sketch adds a Lot of time, as does making sure they interact properly. while the last one in the collage (the Nom) probably took closer to ten minutes

i know the Laughingstock in Aziracrow's outfits i belted out in, oh... an hour or three? it's really hard to say! i think it was several bc i was watching gomens at the time, and i think it got through a couple of episodes... clothes add a lot of time! but certain things that i thought i did Quickly took hours in reality, and i only notice when i look up and see the clock has Changed Drastically! i have a very loose perception of time!

it really just depends on my motivation & how used to drawing something i am. like scribbling Eddie takes a while, lots of guidelines and erasing and redrawing. but scribbling Barnaby? easy. takes me seconds in comparison. way less guidelines - i know where everything is and where it goes! drawing dragons takes even less time - This One was done in a Blink, and the only guides i used were head circle / snout circle / jawline.

fate is, for the most part, a good arthurian adaptation, but somehow fgo manages to be so godawful when it comes to everything round table that it single-handedly manages to cancel that out and make fate as a whole a kinda bad adaptation

Got "Hell's Comin' With Me" stuck in my head which means I'm thinking about that old Zombie AU I love... I miss that. Even spending as long as I did raving about it, I barely even scratched the surface of what can be done with it.

In my head with that song I can see Freddy standing on a raised platform, raising his paw to call attention with Bonnie by his side to "He raised his fist before he spoke". He looks down on a figure below him, "I am the righteous hand of god!" The figure, Roxy, on her fours a ways off snarls up at him, "And I am the devil that you forgot!" And then they fight one on two cause it's cool

Could re-contextualise it for Meteors but like... The whole song kinda fits? Not just "oh vibes" like the narrative is close enough to it for it to be cool as hell and I love the image in my head of that scene in particular

im watching haikyuu on netflix and they keep tagging subtitles when a character is off screen like "[name] what they say" but they often misattribute these likes like saying a shimizu line is said by takeda or a suga line is said by asahi and its all so goofy
