Happy 1-Year Anniversary to The Amazing Digital Circus!

i sadly don't have any art pieces ready (i want to do something! it'll just be late.), but i wanted to commemorate this day anyway, so let me talk about what this silly, twisted, heartfelt little show means to me 💖

i admit, i jumped on this crazy train slightly late. it was a couple weeks after the pilot premiered. but i kept seeing this nervous little jester girl on my social media timelines and thought "hmmmm… i should check this out."
best decision ever.
now, i have a cornucopia of neurodivergences and mental illnesses: autism, possible ADHD, anxiety, depression, C-PTSD, etc… i've always felt "trapped" in this loud, scary, confusing "circus" of a world. so naturally, this traumatized jester woman resonated with me.
she finds herself thrown into this loud, bright, scary digital world. she can't comprehend what's happening, and it seems at first that no one really understands her.
and it dawns on her: this is her life.
the autistic experience right there.
she eventually meets Gummigoo, an NPC who suddenly finds himself in an existential panic. Pomni sees that Gummi's just as scared as she is. she sits down to comfort a fellow "outcast."
and this is when the show began to speak to me on an even deeper level.

but just as quickly as Pomni feels she finally has some hope, those hopes are instantly dashed as Gummigoo is unceremoniously blasted into confetti. Pomni once again finds herself feeling hopeless and alone.
that's when her fellow circus cast members step in.
she stands witness to a beautiful funeral service for Kaufmo, a friend she never got to meet. all these fellow scared humans, giving beautiful eulogies for their fallen comrade.
and then it hits her, these people are a family. they care for one another. she's not alone.

this sense of love and community is displayed once again in the latest episode. Pomni is at her lowest low. she's literally in Hell. but even then, she has a friend. a friend who's also suffering.
…i'll let this scene speak for itself. it's just that powerful.
honestly? it's not even just Pomni that resonates with me, either. i see a little of myself in a lot of these characters.
Ragatha tries to hold onto optimism and childlike wonder, but she's going through it too. i'm a traumatized womanchild in my 30s, too. big-ass mood.

Gangle literally has to "mask" and put on a happy face, not stepping on any toes. but that mask is fragile. she can only put on a front for so long before the sad, scared, trembling girl underneath is exposed. another autistic mood for me lol.

Zooble? ohhh, their therapy subplot hit me HARD as both an autistic person and an enby. they've tried to communicate how unhappy they are. they've tried to let Caine know what they need. but he doesn't even seem to hear them. eventually it's not worth it to try anymore.

i can't stress enough how much this show has resonated with me. Pomni and her friends have become my friends as well. they're faint sparks of hope in a hopeless world, even as they're suffering themselves. they remind me to find the light in my own "circus."

i just… really wanna thank Gooseworx, the voice cast, and all of the TADC crew who've worked hard to bring The Amazing Digital Circus to life. what you're doing really means the world to a scared little jester like me. 💖

Expansions/NPCS
Boothill Honkai Star Rail Mod — adds Boothill from Honkai Star Rail along with his daughter. Has only one heart event (his intro) currently available.
College Boy Mike — adds a nephew for Gus who's currently currently attending university for an engineering degree. Romanceable.
Eli & Dylan — adds a pair of brothers Eli (cryptozoologist) and Dylan (marine biologist) to East Scarp and is easily one of my favorite NPC mods ever.
Eugene NPC — adds a lonely gardner to the Cindersap Forest.
Fievel Goes East Scarp — adds Fievel the Hat Mouse to East Scarp. Based on the movie An American Tail
Fostoria — adds three new NPCs, two shops, forage, fishing, and quests as well as a walking path to Stoffton
Hat Mouse and Friends — adds fourteen new mice that randomly takes turns with the original Hat Mouse to man the shop
Kids for the School — adds additional children to the Little Red Schoolhouse
Law and Order SV — adds a sheriff's office, two npcs, and questlines to potentially put Pierre and Lewis in jail. I have not made it far in the mod
Meet Niki - A Stardew Valley Tribune Journalist — adds a new NPC who works for the Stardew Valley Tribune and writes the articles that appear in vanilla, as well as adding a few more. Romanceable
Mouse Friends in the Forest — Possibly the cutest mod I've ever come across. Adds mice around the forest to interact with. You may find them... familiar
Ranger Taro — adds a new NPC, a new location, heart events, and lore to the world
Stoffton — another large expansion, adding two new large maps, thirty-nine locations, eleven shops, forty-eight NPCs (at least fourteen of which are romanceable), and a progressive storyline. Still in beta
Wild Escapades — adds additional content for Passerby Cemetery
Dialogue/Character Changes
Canon Friendly Dialogue Expansion SVE Patch — what it says on the tin: makes minor changes to CFDE to make it compatible with SVE
Letters from Shane — adds new mail and gifts from Shane as you reach each heart level
Part of a Saloon Breakfast — adds a questline to help the Stardrop Saloon open up in the mornings for breakfast as well as adding in new schedules and events
Unique Winter Star - RSV — expands Winter Star dialogue for RSV NPCs
Gameplay/Quality of Life
Abilities — Experience Bars 1.6 — Adds additional information to the experience bars, such as how much XP you have and how much you need. Also makes it easier to show such information for mod-added skills.
Archaeology Skill — Adds a new skill tree based around digging artifact spots and panning mechanics as well as a couple of new machines, new food, and a way of displaying artifacts.
Better Truffles — Adds the capability for pigs to dig for truffles in tall grass and provide a bubble to show that the truffles are there.
Bigger Fridges — Increases the size of the fridge from 36 slots to 70.
Build and Place Anything Anywhere — Lets you build, farm, or place furniture / objects anywhere.
Cornucopia - Artisan Machines — Similar to PPJA Artisan Valley, this adds ten new artisan machines, over eight new goods, four new special orders, and vanilla-style balance.
Custom Wedding Ceremony — Adds seven different wedding locations, more decorations, changes Lewis's speech, and other delightful small details.
Display Monster Health — Adds an indicator of monsters' health.
Forager's Nooks and Crannies — Adds new maps to the valley that unlock as you upgrade your foraging skill and/or befriends certain NPCs.
The Geology Mod (Update 1.6) — Adds new nods, minerals, and weapons to the game.
Harvest Seeds - Continued — Gives a configurable chance for crops to drop seeds when harvesting.
HxW Mixology 101 — Adds over fifty new recipes and crafting items focused on craft cocktails, mocktails and mixology.
Livestock Bazaar — Displays animals for sale at Marnie (including modded animals) in a grid and allows you to choose which skin it has, as opposed to the game randomly assigning one.

More Lively Farm Cave — Makes the vanilla FarmCave map more fancy with extra space, tweaks and additions.
Pet Overhaul — Adds new pets that can be purchased, including foxes, ferrets, hedgehogs, mini pigs, fennec foxes, capybaras, red pandas, bears, bearded dragons, and geckos.
PIF - Personal Rooms — A framework that allows the addition of PIFs, rooms that are reached via a purchasable door warp. Allows for the addition of rooms/space beyond what's provided on the map.
Remapping - Minimap Project — Adds structures from installed mods to the mini-map to more accurately reflect the lay of the land.
Romantic Revenue — Spouses contribute a portion of their income to the general fund via either dialogue or mail. Configurable.
Saloon Second Floor — Adds a second floor to the Stardrop Saloon that provides modders with a place for their NPCs to live.
Saloon Speakeasy Space — Provides a basement area for NPCs to hang out in. Three different sized spaces to choose from, plus a quest you can enable to have a special order required to unlock it.
Spacecore Luck Skill — Adds a luck skill via Spacecore instead of trying to unlock the unimplemented luck skill in vanilla.
Special Power Utilities — Allows modders and mod users to easily see what new powers are added by what mods and navigate through them away from the vanilla powers.
Spouses React to Player 'Death' Continuation — Modifies 'death' event at Hospital, Mines, or Island to include your Spouse (or Ex). Compatible with 1.6+.
Stardew Aquarium — So excited this updated! Adds an aquarium you can donate fish to and get special rewards.
Train Station — Creates a train network and allows mods to add maps reachable through the train station.
Traveling Skill — Adds a skill, Traveling, that allows the player to unlock faster walking speeds via, well, walking around.
Vanilla Plus Professions — Expands the vanilla skill system by adding additional professions at level 15 as well as adding in a who knew talent system.
Wildflour's Atelier Goods — An all in one artisan good expansion mod. Add as many or as few categories as you like to run the atelier (shop) of your dreams. Highly configurable.

The Incredible Digital World- On Location! (Part 1)
As a bit of a starter, I'll explain a bit about the overall territories of the world. Starting with...
The Circus Grounds!
The starting area, where all ‘players’ spawn in. Everyone was here at one point, but eventually journeyed off to different parts of the World to see what there was to see after it was realized the world held more than expected. The Circus Grounds are simple, flat plains with constantly calm weather, and it is the smallest ‘biome’, with little in the way of environmental landmarks or natural flora or fauna.
Having supposedly never suffered an Abstraction incursion, it is home to the Amazing Digital Circus, governed by the legendary Kaufmo, the King of Fools! It's a place where players or NPCs (better known as 'locals) can journey to enjoy a cornucopia of various small games or shows. The festivities are open 24/7, though there are 'suburbs' of the area where employees or residents that prefer the upbeat nature live. These, of course, have 'quiet times' to allow said residents some peace.
It is the only spawning source of the world’s global currency, Tickets, or ‘Tix’, being spawned in as one successfully completes games- this means that the Circus Grounds themselves are a well-respected and vital part of the World, having its own thriving community around the primary tent, and always has visitors. This has brought rise to the saying: ‘All roads lead to the Circus.’
Some odd rumors surround the area, but most are dismissed as conspiratorial ramblings and the foolishness they are.
and next:
The Knitlands!
One of the areas bordering the Circus Grounds, the Knitlands are the home of the Plush or ‘Plushfolk’, the name for the doll-like, stuffed craft people that inhabit the area. The Knitlands themselves are just as crafted; the ground, trees, and other natural environs seemingly made of felt and other soft fabrics.
The Knitlands are one of the safest locations in the Digital World...so long as you're not a Plush, that is. Due to the unique makeup of the area, fire is pretty much non-existent, sharp objects in ANY form are highly taboo unless you are formally licensed to carry one, and even the animals are largely harmless. Indeed, the Plushlands are a haven of safety and comfort, where you can lay down in a shag carpet field and drift away peacefully...
...again, IF you aren't a Plushfolk. If you are, the area is significantly more dangerous, as those animals can easily de-stitch you and tear you apart for your precious stuffing. You know, a Plushfolk's whole INSIDES. For that reason, the Plushfolk tend to keep together, with only a couple of smaller villages, and the majority of civilization being in larger ones for mutual protection. Their nature also means they aren't as debilitated by weather as some others are, and so they don't mind taking a longer trek...provided the path is safe. Hence here, good horses come at a premium, and are easily the most common travel method.
Although they border both the Great Toon Plains and the country of Ceramictia, it's only with the Porcelains that they have good relations with. The border with the Great Toon Plains is constantly fraught with 'pranksters' and thuggish guards trying to offer caravans coming from the Plushlands 'protection' through the significantly more deadly-for-a-Plush Toon Plains. In addition to the Purple Mountain Range making a natural barrier most Toons don't bother to cross, the one saving grace is that the Toons had enough grace to mark the areas around the border as 'Play Nice Zones'. This means any who try to start any rabble rousing around said area will be notably marked and shunned by both sides. One for causing chaos, the other for taking a potshot at a target that's 'too easy'.

Stardew Mods
Here are my thoughts on the Stardew Valley mods I tried in my most recent game. To be fair, the game I used them in only got to Fall 20th or so of year 1 before I got bored and decided I want to maybe restart with a different loadout, haha.
The good:
All professions - I wanted to use Skill Prestige mod (which lets you "reset" your skill exp to go back and get all skills, sounds great for a long term game) but at the time of starting the game, it wasn't quite ready for 1.6, so I went with this instead and have no regrets. Less grindy than Prestige would've been anyway! I don't think I have it in me to keep to the same game for such a long term anyway.
Animal Observer - speech bubble above the animals so you know if they've been petted and/or are readying up a resource.
Auto Catch, AutoFillPetBowl, AutoGate, Crop Watering Bubbles, passable crops - self explanatory
Better Shipping Bin - the shipping bin acts as a chest and you can pull things out of it.
Canon-friendly Dialogue Expansion - adds more npc interactions with each other, pretty cute from what I saw.
Chests Anywhere - it's going to be hard to play on console without this. Lets you access all your chests whenever, wherever. Sure it's cheaty but this game is LONG and I don't have as much free time irl as I used to.
Community Center Helper - when you hover over a community center bundle item, it gives a note on where/when to find the item. I found this most useful for the fishing ones so I don't have to wiki when a fish is around.
Cornucopia - adds more crops. My favorite part of the game is farming so this is a no-brainer hehe. Will be great when they add recipes using them, but not necessary since tbh I was never into cooking.
Difficulty Socializing - mod to gain fewer or more social points from social aspects. I set everything to 50% since in the Switch game I maxed everyone out super fast and was kinda disappointed haha.
Gunther Tells You - has Gunther tell you the description of donations.
Forage of Ferngill - has a bunch of different modules and I love the new flowers! but, the flower press is a little broken and I got rich way quick on them 😂 but it's true flowers DID need a boost over crops...
Fourteen Heart Events for All - No Marriage Required - self explanatory. Works with Platonic Friendships too!
Happy Fish Jump - makes fish jump out of the water sometimes.
Harvest With Scythe - also has a Harvest With Sword option. love swinging my sword and having crops fly out of the field.
Lasting Conversation Topics - helps you not miss any topical dialogue just because you missed talking to someone on the event day.
Platonic Partners and Friendships - if I don't decide to get married in the game, there is always this
Pokémon Wonder Mail - it's a newsletter you get in the mail about Pokémon. supposed to be used alongside the other Pokémon mods.
Quest Time Limits - lets you change the quest time limits
ReportMobCounts - notifies you how many of each enemy is on a map. Great for monster farming.
Ridgeside Village - this one adds a whole new village to visit, with a whole bunch of new NPCs to befriend. Does a pretty good job of being canon-compliant. Downside: there's some rich snobby NPCs that feel out of place.
RobinIsSingle - look, I wanted to marry her on the Switch. Well, now on PC I can! sorry not sorry Demetrius.
Self-Serve - use a store regardless of NPC being there
TimeSpeed - I'm using it to stop time indoors like in Harvest Moon games.
Traveling Skill - the more you walk, the faster you go. Who needs a horse?
Visible Artifact Spots - the dig spots now have a bubble
Visible Fish - this one shows fish in the water. However, it's just their static icon image in the water so they look very... immobile... still cute anyway.
Wild Animals - adds more wild animals in the background, very cute.
Wild Flowers Reimagined - flowers grow in the grass sometimes
The going away:
East Scarp - kinda like Ridgeside Village, adds a new village zone, but it's not quite polished yet. It's more modular where you can pick and choose which NPC modules you'd like to add, but if you don't get most of them, the village feels empty. In my game there was an entire empty map I had to walk through to get there, so I kinda didn't bother half the time 😪I did like Sen at least!
Fireworks Festival - it's cute but uses a lot of assets from the winter night festival, but comes before the winter festival, just felt weird.
Fish of Stardew - more fish is a great idea but I found they got in the way when I was trying to fish for bundle fish. Also, I think it adds an algae rock item that, when combined with the happy fish jump mod, causes algae to jump out of the water. Hilarious but immersion breaking!
NPC Jasper - just not feeling it!
Pokemania - adds Pokémon to the game. Mostly sprite replacers but cute. I'll be removing Pokemania because the dog/cat evolution is buggy which breaks immersion (it unevolves the next day...?). Also adds Pokémon cries that are way too loud.
Resource Chickens - This adds chickens that lay eggs you can convert into resources like Coal, Fiber, etc. Conceptually cool! I thought they'd be useful but I found I didn't end up needing them at all.
Stardew Valley Expanded - I gave this an honest try since it's highly recommended, but it just changed too much in Pelican Town. Maybe in a future playthrough I'll come back to this. Also, it ALSO added a rich family, what is with these modders and adding rich npcs?
Carry Your Pet - nothing wrong with it, I just wasn't using it at all.
Mods I'll keep but didn't really use or notice:
Adventurer's Guild Expanded - I'm not a deep dungeon kinda person tbh but was hoping this might make it feel more worth it to go into the mines, etc. Honestly didn't notice anything it added.
Billboard Anywhere - I found by habit I checked the board manually anyway. In my defense, I play on controller and the menu-ing on controller is a pain. I couldn't find how to reach the billboard from the menu without resorting to using the mouse.
Dwarf Expansion - never got all the dwarf scrolls 😂
Event Lookup - you can use this to see what cutscenes you have available to see. I didn't use it, but I figure it'll be useful more towards later in the game when friendship is maxed for most npcs.
Gift Decline - makes it so spamming the same gift isn't effective. I didn't actually gift much in this playthrough so this didn't have any effect.
Horse Overhaul - supposed to make the horse able to fit through areas it can't in vanilla, but I never got the horse.
Junimatic - gives Junimos more things to help with. I just didn't get far enough to use it.
Let Me Shop - lets you use Clint's shop still when he's upgrading a tool
Log Menu - adds a menu to access that shows most latest dialogue, including cutscene dialogue. Useful if you skip through something on accident like I do.
Luck Skill - one of those, does it work, or doesn't it? I can't tell!
PolyCarts - adds a bunch of minecarts but they still gotta be unlocked by community center bundle.
SkullCavernElevator - didn't get that far either!
Yet Another Cooking Skill - I'm not into cooking but I'm trying to change that.

Yes and No. We mostly have shared interests, such as horror in general and music, but we also all partake in some form of creativity. Drawing and Writing (poetry and fiction) are the mains but there r others like singing (even if some of us cant).

🪐 - what is headspace like for you?
Our Headspace is relatively big and complex. We have, like, 2 maps. Theres, like, 3 main subsystems tho! There’s The Apartment Complex, which houses the system we have had from 13-present. Then there’s The Cornucopia, which is like 8-12. Then there’s The Church, which is 3-7 years old- they’re some of the oldest system members. The Apartment Complex is in The City, which is,, a city. It has a bunch of, like, internal structures but we don’t have NPCs so it’s kind of dead. Theres the Forest that has The Cabin, which is home to a single alter and is essentially where our “memory library” is. It reminds me a lot of the memory library in “Inside Out” but its not catalogued by emotion color. Theres a lot more BUT this is the limit from The CEO.

There is an apple orchard near Cucu’s house, so she thought it was a good idea to have a slice of pie and a coffee cup with the karaoke dude. Abilities — Experience Bars 1.6 — Adds additional information to the experience bars, such as how much XP you have and how much you need. Also makes it easier to show such information for mod-added skills.
Actually Lucky Rabbit's Foot (Rebooted) — Makes the Rabbit's Foot actually give you some Luck! A passive luck bonus is applied to your character whenever you carry around a rabbit's foot.
Activate Sprinklers — lets you activate sprinklers by right-clicking them.
Archaeology Skill — Adds a new skill tree based around digging artifact spots and panning mechanics as well as a couple of new machines, new food, and a way of displaying artifacts.
Auto Animal Doors — automatically releases your animals from the buildings at a set time each day, and then locks the buildings back up at another set time.
Auto Heal and Energize — Automatically consume food to recover when your health or stamina is low!
Automatic Gates — for those of us too lazy to open/shut gates.
Better Crafting — an extensive overhaul of the crafting system. I mostly use it for the ability to bulk craft.
Better Chests — allows for better organization and search/filtering capabilities for your chests.
Better Friendship — adds a bubble above the heads of NPCs informing you if you've spoken with them today and what in your current inventory they might like to receive as a gift.
Better Junimos — allows Junimos to automatically plant crops, fertilize, water plants, harvest forage, clear dead crops, and NOT harvest your flowers.
Better Quarry Redux — improves the spawn rate of geodes, ore, and gems in the quarry.
Better Ranching — adds a bubble above the heads of farm animals informing you if they need petted and/or milked/sheered/whatever.
Better Truffles — Adds the capability for pigs to dig for truffles in tall grass and provide a bubble to show that the truffles are there.
Better Winter Star Gifts —reduces the number of 'dud' gifts at the Feast.
Bigger Backpack — allows you to purchase an additional row of storage space in your backpack.
Bigger Fridges — Increases the size of the fridge from 36 slots to 70.
Blue Eggs and Golden Mayo — allows you to make blue eggs/blue mayo from blue chickens, and golden mayo and ostrich mayo.
Boss Battles — This mod adds 7 new unique bosses to the mines with varying difficulty settings and arenas, each dropping cool costumes and valuable materials.
Brown Cows Give Chocolate Milk — Exactly what it says. Also allows you to make chocolate bars from chocolate milk.
Build and Place Anything Anywhere — Lets you build, farm, or place furniture / objects anywhere.
Catalogue Filter - Continued — Adds a filter field for shop menus and catalogues that lets you filter shown items based on text input.
Central Station — Travel to other mods' destinations by boat, bus, or train. You can also get a ticket to the Central Station to change line, visit the gift shop, and more.
Challenging Community Center Bundles — A bundle overhaul mod which tries to create a challenging but not frustrating experience playing Stardew Valley.
Chests Anywhere — access your chests from anywhere on the map, or from select locations as set up in the config.
CJB Cheats Menu — a GUI to access various console commands. I mostly use it to freeze time while decorating or to warp to certain locations prior to unlocking the minecarts, because with as many expansions as I have, it takes for-freaking-ever to walk everywhere.
CJB Item Spawner — allows you to spawn any item in the game. Useful for cheating for respawning an item that bugged.
CJB Show Item Sell Price — shows a tooltip telling you how much an item (or stack of items) would sell for.
Cornucopia - Artisan Machines — Similar to PPJA Artisan Valley, this adds ten new artisan machines, over eight new goods, four new special orders, and vanilla-style balance.
Cornucopia More Crops — adds over 90 new crops and 35 new trees. I moved to this when PPJA did not get updated for 1.6.
Cornucopia More Flowers — adds over 40 new flowers and 5 new flowering trees to the game. Again, moved to this after PPJA was discontinued.
Custom Wedding Ceremony — Adds seven different wedding locations, more decorations, changes Lewis's speech, and other delightful small details.

Ikiryo, Psybomb, & I have continued to edit and tweak our manufacturers to ensure that once 3pp licensing is online they’re as good as they can possibly be. Alongside this we’ve been ordering art ahead of time, working on flavor sections to help incorporate our manufacturers into the world of your game, and the incomparable Ikiryo’s been busily creating new NPCs with which to challenge your players! Major updates in terms of balance and flavor will be upcoming for all three manufacturers Soon(tm) in response to feedback from Lancer’s discord, so keep an eye out.

What Is Lancer?
Lancer is a ‘mud-and-lasers’ RPG following mechanized cavalry pilots in the far future. Old Humanity, the cultures we know today, suffered a terrible Fall, and the children of New Humanity have spread through the stars to ensure that they can never destroy themselves again, and in the hopes of building a more just world. Along the way we’ve had some mighty triumphs, some horrific mistakes (nothing like re-inventing capitalism am I right), and have grown to contend with the birth of artificial intelligence - which is more alien than we could have ever dreamed of. Your pilots might work for Union; as Liberators executing slavers and tyrants to build a better world from their bones, as members of the Navy defending the weak, as UIB agents up against alien horrors from worlds we know not. Perhaps you swear your service to vast corpro-states, looking for the beautiful and true things at the heart of their cancerous search for profit and empire, or maybe you’re a mercenary from the Long Rim, just trying to die another day. Whoever you are, you have been granted a unique relationship to violence in the form of a mech, and must now decide what that means in your life.
Lancer is produced and published by Massif Press ( @orbitaldropkick​) and its player-facing rules are available for free on their store. Our project is third-party; not in any way affiliated with Massif Press, but made to be compatible with their excellent system and slot into its setting.

“What happens when you make a promise to someone who doesn’t want you to keep it?” Like the other two corporations here, DOWNFALL Group did not start out looking for a fight. They just found one. In this case, their mission led them to figure out that what they were meant to do was at odds with what they should, and the final decision was probably not what their bosses intended. Still, when your avowed enemies control nearly everything, including you if they found out, you have to get creative with your solutions. 
An intelligence agency that’s gone rogue from the corpro-state that founded it, DFG’s pattern-groups utilize stolen technology in their fight to sabotage the rise of interstellar capitalism. They could be a rebellion’s best friend, the backers of suspiciously armed pirates and, now and again, even an army unto themselves.

Magnum Opus Interstellar are voyagers among the stars, seeking to map the routes across the depths of space. Magnum Opus tends to dislike personal conflict, as it interferes with business and exploration; but the Aun attack on the Cornucopia blink gate has left them shaken and reeling. Shocked out of neutrality, they are now gearing up for war with frames that tear the firmament asunder and demonstrate that a lack of interest in war was a dramatic difference to a lack of capability. 
An ancient and respectable, if small, corpro-state, Magnum Opus Interstellar used to manufacture mechs as a luxury good on the side for the sorts of people who make war into a game. Now awakened to a terrible wrath they have not yet known, their corporate techno-sorcerers ride to war with the codes of summoning at their fingertips. Their work has been undone; worlds will burn for this. And, of course, rich boys making a game out of war still buy what they’re selling.

MO & S are very small. They have no money. You can imagine the kind of stress they are under. Thankfully, between the Ungrateful conflicts, partisans in the Dawnline Shore, and other hotspots flaring up in the Galaxy, they’ve found some markets that don’t hurt their conscience. Need a war machine but all you have is a junkyard full of retired school buses? Call Marley, Oz, and Silver.

Examining Borderlands’ Strong History of LGBTQ Representation

On March 28th Gearbox released an official teaser and development trailer for the next main-series game that their popular looter shooter IP Borderlands. Fans and gamers rejoiced at getting an official look at Borderlands 3. While details are still somewhat scarce, the trailer showed that many fan-favorite characters from the series would be returning for this new outing. 
For this reason, it is worth looking back at other Borderlands titles and the series stellar resume of canonical LGBTQ representation.
We begin with Mad Moxxi, introduced in the first game. Moxxi is bisexual, having dated both men (such as Borderlands 2 antagonist Handsome Jack) and women. In a DLC for the second game, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, she comments about dating one of the female bosses the players fight. She also makes lewd and flirtatious remakes to multiple female characters.

In the squeal, Borderlands 2, Gearbox upped the ante including more LGBTQ characters. 
Audiologs found in one of the game's zones tell the story of two queer researchers (one gay male and one lesbian woman) who were forced to run experiments on their partner (not in a good way).
Support character Hammerlock is confirmed to be gay during a quest in which the players hunt down his ex-boyfriend's audio logs).
DLC Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep is a veritable cornucopia of queer representation!

First, there is the title character, Tiny Tina (who in Borderlands 3 will have grown from an unstable teenager to potentially VERY UNSTABLE young adult). During the DLC she confesses to female character Maya that she likes her. Lead writer Antony Burch later confirmed that she is a lesbian.
Playable character Axton and NPC Mr. Torgue both take actions that allude to them being bisexual. This was again confirmed later by creators.

Finally, there playable character Athena and her partner Janey Springs, introduced in the spin-off title, Borderlands: the Pre-Sequal, are both lesbians. After their first meeting early on, springs regularly flirts with Athena throughout the game. In the New Game + mode, Athena confirms that she and Springs were physical together, but nothing more is said.
In Telltale Games’ Tales from the Borderlands these two return, and are now dating, as sown in dialogue. Depending on player choices, the two can become engaged in the final chapter of the game.

I am incredibly excited to see many of these characters return in Borderlands 3 and am interested to see if Gearbox will further their reputation for excellent LGBTQ+ representation in gaming.

PLOT DROP 02: LIGHT’S OUT
It seems like all of Blackrock has packed itself into the confines of Pioneer Square, jostling and elbowing each other as they strain to see. On the stage stands Mayor Nook-Rossetti, flanked on one side by his beaming family, and the other the proud Harvestfest planning committee. This is a year-long project in the making, the mayor starts, and he can say with the utmost pride and gratitude that it has been a success. The crowd, beckoned by the mayor’s open arms and wide smile, howls with glee. 
But – Harvestfest can’t yet be complete. Of all the events and all the ceremonies that have taken place these last few days, none is quite so well attended, no so controversial, as the Welcoming of the Wolves. Here, Mayor Nook brings out the lanterns and the cornucopias, welcomes town leaders to the stage – farmers and police officers, park rangers and shop owners – to help in beckoning in the change of seasons.
He doesn’t make it that far. Nook has hardly lifted the first ear of corn before, in a blink-brief moment, the Square is plunged into darkness. Miles away on the Whitegrass property, hosting the last few hours of rides and games, the same thing happens. Music cuts short. Lights go out. Panic ensues. 
No one’s quite sure how long the power stays out. Some will say ten minutes, maybe, others maintain it was close to an hour. Electricians on site immediately following the power outage say they can find no reason why the lights went out in Pioneer Square or the rides all stopped on the Whitegrass land. Not that anyone has much attention to give the mayor’s placating statements when the smoke clears. 
At the edge of Pioneer Square SAM MEHTA and MILO WHITEGRASS stand shaken, bruises and cuts already blooming. The Whitegrass land takes longer to get back up and running, but when it does, HUTCH BAKER and EVAN CZARNECKI are sporting similar injuries. Both parties are shaken and confused, unsure how they arrived at where they were found. 
No one even notices Jacob Saterlee (NPC), aged 14, has all but vanished from thin air.
TIMESTAMP: November 17th – November 19th
TLDR: at the closing Harvestfest ceremony, the power is cut both in Pioneer Square and on the Whitegrass property, including all rides and games. It’s unclear how long it stays out in both locations, only that Pioneer Square is restored before the Whitegrass land. When the smoke clears and panic dies down, FOUR PLAYABLE CHARACTERS have been found with various light injuries, confused and disoriented about what happened to them during the commotion. In the midst of the chaos, a child has also gone missing.
