for some reason i was sitting outside this morning and enjoying some shockingly not boiling hot weather and reflecting on a post i had made like ... 12 years ago on here that "blew up" (like 60k notes on early days tumblr) and thinking like. wow i sure do know a lot more about myself now that makes all that make sense but

the post was someone saying like. hey how can you call yourself an atheist and support gay people because gay people go against the concept of evolution. and my reply was like. actually there are gay members of like every social species weve studied it in and i had a bunch of facts laid out about all the different very gay animals of this world (like giraffes having very largely m/m sex)

but now, like 12 years later, i am thinking about human evolution and queer identity and thought it would be fun to talk about. i am by far not an expert and so if there are experts who want to correct me or talk more in depth about this Please jump in but

... why did humans evolve to be queer anyway?

very short answer: because its helpful to raising kids

longer answer: though its debated whether humans are a prosocial or eusocial species, it is agreed upon that early humans cooperatively raised young, including those that they did not personally sire or give birth to, and that we lived in multi-generation communities where younger members would help raise older members offspring, and vice versa

(note: im using the terms amab and afab for human populations potentially pre concepts of gender but work with me here, i dont want to keep repeating genitalia or genomes when those arent always a helpful 1 to 1 either. sex is a spectrum gender is made up etc support intersex rights)

we know that due to fraternal birth order effect (npr link), youre 33% more likely to be gay with each older amab sibling that you have (not 33% total, but 33% more, so like 2% to 2.6 to 3.5 etc). this is true of both amab and afab people with older amab siblings. we also know that a birthing parent having more of a specific antibody makes their children more likely to be gay (and that antibody is not exclusive to but is highly tied to giving birth to amab children)

in addition, evolutionarily speaking, its just as advantageous for your siblings children to do well than it is for yours to. its incredibly rare you would happen to have a very helpful mutation that your siblings dont have. which means that your siblings kids would be about 25% amab grandparent, 25% afab grandparent, and 50% a parent who is unrelated to you. this is exactly the same for your own children

okay, so what does that mean?

to put it simply, it means that having older siblings, specifically older siblings who are more easily able to sire more children, makes you more likely to end up in a same-sex couple, which means you are two adults with no children who are now around to help raise children you are equally invested in the success of than if they were your own

the more older youth or adults you have around to help who are not also using up a bunch of resources by being pregnant and having non-helping-age children, the better off that community's children will be. more people to hunt and gather and create resources like tools, which means everyone prospers, especially the kids

or, to frame it from the opposite view: having gay siblings means your children are more likely to survive and thrive

(kind of funny how conservatives are like gay people shouldnt be around children when the entire point of our evolutionary development was that we were great to have around if you had kids but like. alas)

so, thats the very basic core of it. but you can apply this concept to a lot of queer identities. aroace? working adult around to help who is not bringing in an unrelated partner or having kids. trans? you now either have an m/f couple who can fill two different social niches without having kids, or you have a gay couple who is able to do more varied physical tasks whether or not they do have kids. bi people may have kids or may not, or their children may be more spread out if they have partners of different sexes over time

not to mention you kind of have some built in, ready to go parents in the case that another community member dies, and there are now orphans that need raising. its a lot harder for someone whos already a parent to take on more children, as opposed to an adult couple who doesnt have any

so yeah :) were queer because we were helpful to have in communities and allowed everyone, but especially youth, to prosper and thrive

tl;dr: queer people were an evolutionary advantage to have in an early community because we were helping-age members who were able to cooperatively raise young and take on orphans without using up resources on birthing and raising our own young

as for how its possible, irl clearly these species would be too distant from eachother to hybridise but ok its fantasy and also. i think part of it might be that as basilisk ancestors evolved their odd trait of picking up aspects of other fauna around them during fetal development, it just resulted in their genes being really wack and spontaneous and for some reason that made it so that they can procreate with nattramn again. i think the ancestors shown in the last image for example could not concieve together bcs the basilisk ancestor species had not evolved the wacky genes thing yet.

societally i think it varies on how they're treated. generally hybrids are accepted as parts of their societies, but depending on several factors they can be somewhat alienated. in nattramn society, "basramn" hybrids are generally more well accepted due to a combination of societal and religious reasons. "nattlisks" usually mingle with basilisk communities much easier for similar reasons. the kind of folklore that sprung up surrounding them in these communities may depend on the fact that basramns have an easier time fitting into nattramn society (due to nattramn putting a lot of importance on flight) while nattlisks have an easier time shapeshifting and can usually fit in basilisk communities easier because of it (basilisks celebrate their shapeshifting ability culturally quite strongly), and the folklore sprung up as sort of a "post hoc" justification for potential alienation/embracing of hybrids. because of this this means that union between a basilisk and a nattramn and whether or not its accepted depends on the context bcs of what hybrid it produces. thinking this may be further reinforced with old legends about mythical (or real, potentially) historical figures in their cultures. (have to think more about this)

also i dont think ive mentioned it here but the reason why these hybrids arent TOO uncommon to see is that nattramn and basilisks are closely intertwined, and while its unusual to see a nattramn mingling with basilisk communities, its quite common for basilisk communities to exist within nattramn settlements and their attitudes towards one another are generally amicable/positive.

"nattlisk" and "basramn" are not canon terms for them, and in universe theyre generally referred to either as basilisk, nattramn or harpy depending on what the observer/local culture thinks they are lol. humans especially dont really know the difference - i think maybe nattlisks may be interpreted as some sort of other vätte like a rå or a troll due to their more humanoid look

generally have similar lifespans to nattramn/basilisks, overall they do rather well for being hybrids other than miscarriages (or, well, since theyre egg layers, failed/unhatched eggs) and nattlisks being more susceptible to illness early in life.

Something that I think a lot of people don't know about and don't talk about enough is that loosing oral speech can and if for a long enough time, will damage your vocal cords.

I can attest to the fact that there are many challenges that come with not being able to speak orally. One of the lesser-known consequences of prolonged loss of oral speech is the potential damage it can cause to one's vocal cords. When someone stops using their vocal cords to make speech, the muscles can weaken, and the vocal cords themselves can atrophy. This process is similar to what happens when you break a bone. You are put into a cast, ergo that limb is immobilized. If you don't use the limb for a long time, the muscles will weaken, and you may need to do physical therapy to regain strength and range of motion. In the same way, if someone doesn't use their vocal cords for an extended period, they may need to do speech therapy to help with the deterioration of vocal cords. I do want to quickly note that I haven't been put in speech therapy for this reason before (though I have been in speech therapy for other reasons, of course).

The first time I lost speech for a long period of time was when I was 10-12 (I cant remember the exact age right now, I'm sorry. I know I've listed it in other posts if you are curious though, but if you don't want to check, just know it was somewhere in that age range. My brain is feeling "fuzzy" with time this morning.) and it was for four months. Once I regained some mouth words, my vocal cords were extremely weak and difficult to use. My speech was practically unintelligible for a bit. The first thing I had said was "Do we have woodpeckers?" because I heard a noise outside that sounded like them (news flash, it wasnt woodpeckers. Woodpeckers arent even in my state so I don't know what was going through my head.), but due to the weakness in my vocal cords it sounded more like "da-wee...ave.. w-ah-pehck..ehs?". It was painful to use my oral voice, I was straining it just to say that sentence. It was extremely quiet, and shaky. I also was unable to control my breathing (not my normal breathing. I mean the breathing patterns required to use oral speech), causing a lot of gaps between speech sounds.

I obviously don't know what my oral voice sounds like now, but I can feel it getting weaker again when I hum as a stim.

It's important for people to understand that losing oral speech is not just a matter of finding a different way to communicate; it can have significant and lasting impacts on our physical health as well.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but I always imagined a first contact au, I get the human is supposed to be alone (for reasons like them gradually going coocoo for coco puffs due to the isolation and the fact they can't communicate on the side of being trapped and treated as a pet) Imagine if having one human involved getting another friend for the first human! (Like how with some animals your gonna have to adopt another of their species so they arent fully alone and have less mental problems) And the potential for any sort could be there, both humans could get into shenanigans with eachother, like maybe both of them attempting an escape, or roaming a lot, purposely getting caught/stuck in the most unideal of spaces and making it really inconvenient for their owners to find them. If they aren't even that domesticated that just makes it all the more interesting! Maybe if both humans have a language barrier of their own and struggle communicating but they both unanimously understand/agree that they need to get the hell out of this hell that they were forced into. Then again this is just a silly thought I had.

i have experienced this. i have been ejected from multiple queer social groups on flimsy accusations of sexual predation and perversion. hell, if youve known me long enough, you probably know that theres a callout post somewhere on this godforsaken website that refers to me as a rapist and my wife as my accomplice because back before the porn ban i had a nsfw sideblog where i rbed a lot of weird porn. this is not an exaggeration. i have lost entire friend groups because of this shit.

So let's start with the easy one, Egon is Obviously Autistic, he is the steriotypical autistic person, blunt, which shows difficulty in communication, has a hard time with socialization and has repetitive and behaviour. Now let's go for Ray, i see a lot of people mentioning of autistic behaviour related to Ray and well due to Dan himself being autistic. but i will throw a thing out here, Ray has ADHD Not autism, specifically the mixed adhd which brings in the lack of attention along with hyperactivity. (i know the spectrum shows differently in each person but this is my headcanon and what i observed) So lets start, he is very impulsive, and take actions sometimes without even thinking, plus very active, childish, and he lacks a lot of attention like they'd be talking about a thing and stantz would trail off or even start something without even considering causes, like with the proton packs, ray was the first one to offer himself even if it is a nuclear weapon. He could go overboard like when he is asked to scream to the mood slime and goes over the top, and now that's not necessarily a adhd characteristic, but it's common, he is very adoptive and quickly witted.

It's hard to have two voices in ya head telling the most logical and other one telling the impulsive intrusive thought, and he shows the mixture of the two perfectly. and if you want to push even farther in, we can discuss dislexia. The fact he has to ask Ray to read certain words for him and tell him what it says is already very interesting. (Adding in Bill murray is not openly autistic, but there were mentions about it in old interviews and some stuff in different people mentioning the possibility. but for the section of factuality, let's say no)

Pop. He’s asexual, in the sense that he doesn’t have a drive for himself, but he isn’t anti sex. If it’s something his partner needs in a relationship he’s fine performing for them. Making them happy makes him happy. But he’s also perfectly fine just never having it too.

1 - Is it possible to be aplatonic but alloqueerplatonic?

2 - Can one be apl but still want close bonds with people? (Best example I could think of is close acquaintances or "unlabeled bonds", if those are even things?)

3 - Would it be apl(spec) to have plato attraction but have it be very rare, weak, or only when specific criteria is met?

4 - Is it possible to suddenly/gradually lose plato attraction (in general, not to a specific person)?

5 - Is it a possible indicator of being apl to not really feel anything "special" towards friends? (Like enjoying their company/personality but being otherwise indifferent towards them)

5.5 - With the above: Is it a possible indicator of being apl to view plato attraction/relationships as being a performance/metaphor, not actual "feelings" towards someone?

1- yeah, there are people who are aplatonic and alloqueerplatonic ! (some may assume there arent just bc the old definition of aplatonic claimed it means 'does not want qprs' - but thats not what aplatonic means. People are welcome to use the outdated definition for themself if they want but literally even the coiner of aplatonic (mr shuttershy on AVEN) never even made that definition of apl. )

2- yeah, and some apls are allo- for other attractions, and/or favorable to one or more types of close bond or relationship. (I for example have close bonds with my sexual and romantic-sexual partners bc Im demiro and allosexual, but dont want acquaintances or friends or qprs etc. bc Im repulsed by those)

5- it could be, I felt like that back when I thought I wanted friends, and Ive heard other apls talk about finding friendship to be like this as well

5.5- it can be, since some of us arent familiar with how it feels to feel platonic attraction and/or truly like friendship and desire it, we may see it as 'not real' or assume everyone else is exaggerating how much they like friendship. Even if it is in fact real to people who experience it (and I don't believe its correct to actually call it, or any other attraction or relationship actually fake bc that invalidates peoples experiences)

And from my experience, unlike what some people assume, its really not just alloplatonic aros who are obsessed with friendship (some people, especially those who try to gatekeep the apl label as being only for aros, they claim there is 'no expectation to care about friendship outside of the aro community', and thus often assume this). Ive seen plenty of alloromantic people be incredibly invested in friendship and its also been very confusing to me that they even feel that much about friends and friendship as a whole, as a nonfriending apl who has never felt that.

You may have memories of some anime that fits within the nebulous concept of an isekai, perhaps a portal anime, perhaps reincarnation, perhaps abducted to another planet.

I don't think it would be a misnomer to say that these older titles were softer in general, the concepts, the characters, the romances. The escapism was not rooted in frustration but instead fascination of what could be.  In that we have the true difference between modern and classic isekai. 

Modern isekai authors a great majority of the time are frustrated at a concept of society and want to escape from it in their stories. Although an even larger majority of the time, an isekai is made because the author is both irrevocably hornt up, has a chip on their shoulder about something and has decided to make this a problem for the world to deal with. 

A problem we will be dealing with today. 

The story of reincarnation coliseum is fairly simple. An average japanese college/highschool student is summoned via some magical means into a brand new world by a priestly order and its leader zayd. 

The moment you are introduced to zayd, who for lack of better words is an 8 foot amazonian women with tits the size of regulation basketballs and a outfit that would make even the sleaziest fantasy costume designer snear with a little bit of disdain, you understand a very simple fact about the story you are about to read. 

This is porn. It is not labeled as such but that is not due to the author's efforts. 

Everything in this story revolves around the concept that this is porn, every step it makes is in service of hurrying itself along to a secluded space so it can rip away the millimeter fabric of clothing it bothered to pretend to draw onto its women. 

Which isn't a sin in and of itself. I'm not going to pretend anime doesn't have a rich history of stuffing people in the bare minimum of fabric one can get away with without triggering a public indecency charge, perhaps im being a tiny bit of a prude by jumping the guns and bemoaning the duel blimp chested woman before me before I even get a chance to understand the basic plot!

So we learn that our protagonist has been summoned to the world at great cost! Why? Because the cost allows the summoned to gain a divine skill or cheat ability…

Ok im going to judge a cover by its book and a book by its cover and an author by their fucking lemming mentality desire to follow the fucking leader.

Here I am swaying my way downtown, attempting to enjoy my stroll through the familiar roads of fantasy when out of the corner of my eye I spot a quaint and cozy little restaurant/manga.

I say, a slice of life in another world with a lovely protagonist that's here to learn how to do some blacksmithing for their local community? Oh be still my beating heart! My fingers wrap around the door as I throw it open, my heart open to the rapturous joy of simple blue collar trade skill living. Yet sitting before me radiating a malicious stench is some god damn rando with a super skill like… “Insta crafting”, “item shop”, or God fucking forbid, “hyper level”. IF YOU HAVE INSTA CRAFTING YOU ARENT FUCKING CRAFTING YOU JUST HAVE GOD MOD ONE YOU FUCK, PICK UP THAT HAMMER YOU SHODDILY DRAWN TWINK AND SWING IT, MAKE A FUCKING IRON TOOL FOR YOUR FELLOW VILLAGERS, OLD FAMER JANKINS HAS A GOD DAMN FAMILY TO FEAD AND WHILE YOUR TWIDDLING WITH YOUR MIGHTY SWORD IN HAND HES GOING TO MISS PRIME HARVEST TIME, YOU ARE RUINING THE LOCAL ECONAMY BECAUSE YOU WONT MAKE A FUCKING HOE. PERHAPS AND PLEASE TAKE THIS WITH THE EVER SO SLIGHTIST BIT OF SALT BUT MAYBE YOU DONT FUCKING NEED TO HAVE EVERY SINGLE GOD DAMN HERO POP OUT THE METAPHORICAL WOMB WITH THE STRONGEST SKILL, MAYBE HAVE THEM BE ACTUALLY WEAK, MAYBE ITS OK TO HAVE TO WORK TOWARDS A GOAL INSTEAD OF GIVING THE FIRST LIMP DICK LOSER THAT MANAGES TO SASHEY THEIR WAY INFRONT OF THE NEAREST TRUCK SUPERMANS TESTOSTERONE INJECTIONS BEFORE INTRODUCING THESE INVASIVE FUCKWADS INTO A NEW UNPREPARED ECOSYSTEM, IS THAT PERHAPS TO LARGE OF AN ASK?!

Where was it…? Oh yeah, the manga then takes a turn, the once kindly priestess shows her hidden colors and sells the protagonist to slavery, a life of fighting within the coliseum within the town. Ok, ok. We are finally getting somewhere. We are moving towards something we can describe without the nasty nerdy wink wink nudge nudge joking attitude as Plot. 

The protagonist is stuck in a jail cell with another young lady who describes herself as a sword slave. A slave who fights within the coliseum as entertainment. A concept we are not unfamiliar with, the gladiator may come to mind. 

She then goes along to explain the basic premise of the coliseum and its rules. There are both slaves and regular fighters that attend. Two fighters enter the arena and whoever loses will “belong” to the winner. In addition the winner may decide to change the sex of the loser. With the winner then gaining male genitalia. 

Could a concept like this have some nuance? Maybe, the idea that even a single loss is literally emasculating may play some part in a better story, the idea of a society where gender is as easy to change as a pair of clothes, to the point of even mixing and matching body parts, but it's not. In this story it's treated as something fetishy enough to warrant a demonstration panel but still scary enough to motivate the main character into both swearing vengeance against this society and winning at all cost.

Hey real quick, Imagine all the nuisance of the gambling and addiction and the willingness to throw away your life in pursuit of true hedonistic joy and thrill that we see in kakegurui. You got it? You imagining those big amazing psycho smiles the girls make? You remember the isekai the author nearly got sued for making? Good good, throw it all away. 

Because this is where the story decides to discard itself in blind pursuit of its carnal desire. Or to be less of a pretentious prick about it, it becomes porn, porn with a horribly predictable, horribly paced and horridly set up punchline. 

The plot or whatever semblance survived the suspiciously shaped holes poked into it becomes thus: Woman of the week shows up at the arena. The woman is strong, tall, well endowed and astoundingly cocky of their abilities, promising to assault the mc the moment they win because even when creating foils, the women are not allowed to express any sexual disinterest in the main character AT ALL, i mean, we gotta throw a bone for the trash readers that like fem dom right?

Anyways the special skill of the main character always allows them to counter, adapt or supersede whatever skill this apparent master combatant has trained with. They are soundly beaten and then added to the main characters harem by force where after one night they and please do pardon my words here, if i could i would shoot the author and help them with their hormone imbalance “Become slaves to their baser instinct and subservient to the main character.”

Each character becomes submissive and a prop for the next sexual escapade of the main character as they get ready for next week's fight. Occasionally the rules will be changed up or the main character will do something vaguely different for their fight, either because the skill for whatever reason wont work or because they want to pretend the main character is Gamer Batman. 

The manga I regret to inform you is both somewhat successful and has a slowly growing cult following. It's also still continuing on, it will likely gain merch and an anime adaptation that people will call “Cultured” because god will settle into a nice coffin before another joke gets invented.

Is it worth the read? No. no it's not. Is it worth learning about? No, not really. Is it capable of pulling emotion out of your dead heart? By god yes it fucking can. ‘

No, the story is a tournament manga but without the cool character designs. Each character is a basic human with slight alterations, the costume design makes my soul hollow.

i spent a good 5-6 years of my life wondering if i had DID (especially since even til now i am not sure if i even have trauma) and even now it's just... a big question mark for me — god knows with all the discourse I've just settled for acting as 'normal singular person' and decided it really doesn't matter to me if i had DID or not, my (our?) brain just works in a funky way and maybe that just so happens to align with the way people who exist as pluralities work (is this the correct term?? still new to this lmao)

but yes am sending this ask because of that one post talking about endos/pro endos erasing DID and turning it into a silly personality quirk bc they... were editing the wiki page

to put it in the most concise way possible, i really doubt that a majority of endos want to 'erase' DID or just treat it as something you can will into existence or... whatever. it's still a disorder, after all. i think everyone's just experiencing their own way through life, and due to how prevalent the concept of DID is compared to people simply choosing/naturally developing(?) alters/systems, i think it's understandable why people could mix up the two or simply 'identify' with DID as it's the most understood 'label' for 'someone who has alters'.

maybe it's just me, but no one wants to erase your presence, no one wants to invalidate your trauma, and i really genuinely hope that no one wants to make your genuine, awful struggles be seen as a 'personality quirk'. maybe there are extremists out there in the endo community who are like that, i wouldn't know, you're the first blog I've ever seen that talks about this kinda stuff so I'm pretty much new here. but that's my two cents.

wikipedia is a community run site that's meant to give comprehensive and (hopefully) accurate information regarding topics. no matter if you agree that endogenic systems are or are not classified under DID or not, no matter if you're 100% certain that it doesn't count at all, the fact of the matter is this: someone else does! and apparently enough people out there think that way for this to be discourse and to be added onto wikipedia.

i don't think this should be removed from wikipedia, in that case. if anything, i think it should be put on the page, as it is a majour point of content regarding DID. the information shouldn't be phrased as 'oh endogenic systems are/arent DID related', obviously; but i feel like being able to admit that 'there is a group of people that believe xyz' is something important and good to have on a wiki page when it's *that* prevalant when people talk about the topic. this doesn't mean pro endos are trying to erase the validity of DID or that they're trying to say that endos also have DID... it's just saying that there is a (not insignificant apparently) group out there with that belief, and that at this current moment, according to the DSM, this belief is not officially supported.

at some point i think if ur gonna claim a musical subculture thats also heavily leftist youre gonna need to take it upon yourself to look up whether the bands ur listening to are awful people and not wait until some tiktok or whatever talks about it so you can be in the comments like 'omg what did she wants revenge do?' 'what did msi do?' etc etc. its just my opinion ig but i see musical subcultures as functioning in a very different way from mainstream music industries bc the music comes with a community that is inseparable from it, communities which have shared ideals and standards, which you have a responsibility to uphold if you want to be part of that community. and in many cases the bands have a direct relationship to the community/are part of the community/are in their local scenes and that proximity makes a big difference in how stringent we gotta be with not accepting fascists and predators bc its not only about supporting them financially or in visibility but also about whether they are like, literally allowed to be physically present and have access to the scene.

in addition, these very communities are also notably rampant w abusers, bigots and fascists, and anyone who has dipped a toe into these subcultures should know that. like, when you stumble upon some new pop artist that sounds cool you probably dont think "i should do some googling to make sure theyre not a literal neo-nazi" just by virtue of making pop music, but you may have to do that if you listen to goth or punk or metal etc.

so due to the combination of "i think you have more of a responsibility to help maintain the ethical standards of your scene by virtue of it being a community and not just disparate individuals listening to the same stuff" and "also, these scenes are FULL of freaks", i do kinda think you have a responsibility to check up on whether subculture/alt musicians youre getting into are notorious sexual abusers, bigots, or literal nazis, and while some stuff will always slip thru the cracks (its happened to me - a band i listened to as a teen which at the time i couldnt find any suspicious info on turned out to have had a far right extremist as a previous member but i only found this years and years later) the fact that EVERY time i see some video or post about an alt band/artist being Known To Be Extremely Bad and all the top comments are "omggg what did they do???" it leads me to believe a lot of people are not doing the bare minimum.

its not that hard either in most cases and there are places that compile lists of bands to avoid for these reasons (ik r/goth has a list of goth bands to avoid) so rly it just seems like its part of this general thing where putting on a subculture is seen as a fully individualized thing that does not actually involve community. probably would have more thoughts on that over-individualizing thing i see a lot (eg: young goths constantly talking about how other goths arent original enough bc they stick to traditional goth styles or dye their hair black or whatever.. like on the one hand i get feeling frustrated by the assumption that all goths must look a certain way, but also... being mad as shit that the subculture like. has elements. is weird to me. you dont have to adopt them for yourself if you dont want to but... yeah i dont think 'black haired goths are sheep w no individuality' is that hot of a take lol and to me it comes off more as a desperate attempt to both claim a community AND at the same time say that you are never like anyone else in that community or inspired by it. like why do you want to be part of it if being recognized as a part of a group and having similarities to members of that group is so insulting to you?).
