appreciation for the sheer melancholic fondness in wilson’s gaze at house during what he knows is the last normal interaction they’ll ever have; during the final comparatively trivial rant in which they don’t both have to pretend the world isn’t collapsing beneath their feet

something about neil gaiman and making shows about 2 characters with a bond so deep their relationship goes beyond romantic and platonic, something deeper, stronger.
oh and not to mention decades long pining for your best mate.

I think the problem that most people aren’t realizing (that’s probably going to bite them in the ass when S2 arrives) is the fundamental Problem when it comes to Vi and Jinx’s relationship:
Vi loves Powder, there’s No denying that. Every action she takes when she gets out of prison has been to find Power. And even though she has budding feelings for Caitlyn, Powder comes first. But the problem between the two is when it comes to Jinx. Because she Can’t love Jinx in the way that she loves Powder.
Which is why one of the last things she says to Vi, “I thought, maybe you could love me like you used to. Even though I’m… different.” Holds so much importance. You wonder Why Vi doesn’t say anything to Jinx before she leaves and fires Fishbones. You’d think that Vi would leap at the opportunity to insist that she still loves her, but she can’t. She can’t love Jinx. At least, not in the way Jinx Wants her to.
A lot of people have been claiming that “the trailer is lying to us!”, “She’s just placating Caitlyn!”, or whatever they’ve been saying when we hear Vi say, “My sister is gone.” People are seeming to think that there’s a sliver of a chance that the two could reconcile or go back to what once was or whatever. And the thing is… I Highly doubt that.
Vi not only has to deal with the Drastic ramifications that Jinx has inflicted on Piltover but I think she also has to realize that this is who Jinx’s been for Several years at this point. (Cuz remember in ep 4, other people Know who Jinx is and what she’s capable of at this point, she’s made a name for herself inflicting that kinda terror in people)
As much as Vi doesn’t like it, This is who Jinx is now. I truly believe that Powder died in episode 9. And from what Arcane has shown us, this can really only end in tragedy for the two (not in a death, there are certainly things that are worse than that). And I think they may show Vi emotionally disowning Jinx (as hard as that’d be to watch) because there isn’t Powder to save anymore, there’s just Jinx and Jinx is the one that needs to be stopped.
(I know that people bring up Jinx’s champion storyline from Legends of Runtarra with Mr. Bunny but the thing is I’m pretty sure that happens way after this and, while I may not know a lot of LOL lore I know that a lot of Jinx’s storylines recently are about trying to prod Vi’s memory cuz she has amnesia and doesn’t remember anything about her past in the Undercity and all that soooo that’s what I have to say about that)
Do I think at the beginning of the season Vi’s probably going to be in denial and try to find “Powder” again? Absolutely. The way Jinx says “finally got the name right… sister.” Is implying that there’s a scene between the two that they haven’t shown us yet because I doubt there’d be That much venom in her tone if the two haven’t seen each other from Ep 9 all the way to whenever this fight scene takes place when Vi’s already an Enforcer. Hell, even when Vi calls her “Jinx” in that last part there’s hurt in her eyes and she slightly shakes her head before doing so, clearly not comfortable with calling her sister that. (Also fueling my belief that this isn’t the season finale fight that some people think it is)

I mean yeah canon Feligami is absolutely Our Love is God which is. Bad. But I have the equally horrible suspicion that the second any kind of conflict happens between the two of them Felix will go full on Meant to Be Yours
Yeah it.

Just thought about how the tradgedy of Orpheus and Eurydice this time isnt that orpheus failed to get her out the underworld but that he succeeded and their love still ended. He still didnt reunite with her. The story changed but the tragedy of it stayed exactly the same!!

Anytime I see people who say 'Erik should have gotten Christine!' I always let out such a loud sigh because they are completely missing the point of the book.
The tradgedy is not, and never has been, the fact that The Phantom didn't get Christine, it's the fact that he never got to be human.
Erik, as a character, is so insanely full of love and yearning and that is exactly what leads people to sympathise with him; to lead them to the point of 'if he got the girl everything would be fine'. He's poetic with his suffering and expresses his truama in a obsessive and borderline psychopathic way in order to deal with it and get what he wants. To have what he never had; real affection. To be kissed without his masked chucked at his face.
To be looked at with fondness instead of fear.
Leroux's whole point with the character of The Phantom isn't that he's another man who deserved the girl, his point was how real life literature Others are treated. Erik is both The Hunchback of Notre Dame's Quasimodo and Jane Eyre's Bertha Mason. Both, of which, despite the fact they don't conform to societal standards, still deserve to be treated as humans.
Erik deserves to be treated like a human despite his deformity, despite his otherness that has literally forced him into the basement of an Opera House he helped build; to be loved like any human wants love. Everybody in that book demonises him for such a human feeling and that is the point. That is the metaphorical kick to the chest.
Further, rounding back around to the 'if he got the girl everything would be fine'. If Erik got Christine, he wouldn't learn that the fact he murdered multiple people to get there, that he threatened to blow up half of Paris, that he tricked a young girl into believing he was her dead father, was wrong. If he got what he wanted, with no consequences, then it wouldn't teach Erik anything, because he would never learn what real affection would be like.
That's why, at the end of the book, where Christine shows him genuine love, willingly, he absolutely crumbles because he realises that is what it means to be human. To feel human; pure love given of someone's own accord.
To love is to be changed, as the poets' say, and that's exactly what it does to him.

Being the Son of Calliope, headcanons…
Tumblr media
PJO x Male Reader (No romantic pairing)
Warnings: None…
Summary: You’re the son of the goddesss of epic poetry and eloquence and One of the Nine Muses…
(A/n: I know I was meant to work on other stuff but I got distracted.)
(Song is unrelated to the story but it felt Muses coded so…)
——
You were the only half-blood at camp related to one of the Muses, specifically Calliope, the Goddesss of Epic Poetry and Eloquence.
When you had gotten to camp you used to stay in Cabin 11, even though you’d been claimed, there was no cabin for you. So you ended up bunking with Travis Stoll.
But after the war with the titans and Percy’s demands to Zeus to the gods, a cabin dedicated to the Nine Muses had been built.
You being made the counsler… not that there were any other options…
The cabin was great tho, it was decorated with statues and carvings of the muses and their symbols. There were paintings hung of their famous demigods too such as Orpheus, Hyacinthus and Linus
The cabin had a big book case with novels, plays, comedies, tradgedies, poetry. A soundproof dance studio, a spundproof music room with a bunch of instruments, a sky window to study the stars.
Basically everything associated with the Muses.
——
If you had a nickel for everytime someone had tried to pick you by saying ”you were their muse” or that ”you had inspired” the poem, song or novel they wrote… you’d be richer than Hades.
You were particullarly popular amongst the Apollo cabin who seemed to think you were some kind of key to overcome creative blocks. Will Solace, their counselor, needed to keep them in check since they all seemed interested in you in one way or the other.
Athena’s and Hephaestus’s cabins were also drawn to you for your creativety.
——
You would however end up being paired with the Apollo cabin to lead the campfire sing-alongs, you usually end up with a solo song telling the dramatic story of some greek hero.
Imagine something like ”The Gosphel Truth” from ”Hercules”, with the Apollo cabin acting as you back up singers.
——
As for your powers, you were far from the strongest of demigods, but you were by no means weak.
You had a natrual talent for the arts, singing, dancing, poetry, instruments, etc…
As the son of the goddess of Eloquence you could cast minor short lasting curses on people that would effect their speaking, that could for example cause them to only speak in rhymes and limericks or make them unable to finish long sentences before drifting off.
Your swordfighting style would be noted by the other campers to be quite different, while they fought normally with their swords, Percy described your style more as a ”VERY deadly and sharp dance”.
Being related to the muses you also had an aura that could induce inspiration and creativity in someone (so maybe the Apollo cabin was on to something with their interest in you).
Though that power worked both ways as you could also curse someone with creative block.
——
Unlike most demigods, you’re mother showed up quite often to advice you whenever you had a problem… and she didn’t come alone.
Let’s say you’re in your cabin and you’re sad after having an argument with a friend.
Well… then all the 9 statues of the Muses in the cabin come to life and start singing a pop-soul number about why friendship is important and you should make up with your friend.
It’s was quite terrifying the first few times it happened but you get used to it after a while.
Being one of the Muse’s son is pretty much like being all of their son.
(A/n 2: Sorry, this is shorter than i usually write and is more so a collection of small headcanons for a Son of Calliope!Reader than a full on fic.)

One thing i like about the Happy handwavey ending for the specials is that like, we've done tradgedy. Been there done it to death.
S1-4 ended in all sorts of tradgedy. As pointed in the puppet show, s5-10 were alllllll about tradgedy, with the era's ending being an acceptance of it. Hell one of my personal issues with s11-13 is that it felt like they were rehashing tradgedy we'd already seen.
But I've been watching some 3rd & 4th Doctor era recently. They don't have any sad kicked puppy energy but still have such good stories! They're wanderer who knows who they are and enjoys the hell outta their messed up life! They have moments of seriousness and of tradgedy. But it doesn't overcast the narrative like it overwhelmingly has in NuWho. They were a much more static character and it worked!!
Yes the handwavey means to get that clean slate were a bit silly (i wish the episode had an extra 30 minutes run time to develop). But GOD we need a breath of fresh air from the constant trauma or it'll get repetitive and unimpactful
If 15 does end up having tragedy I'll be down for that too! But if not? It'll be a fun change of pace the show kinda desperately needs

NO. I DONT WANT TO SEE THEM HAPPY AND LIVING THEIR BEST DOMESTIC LIFE. I WANT TO SEE THEM LIVING IN AGONY FOREVER TOGETHER. I WANT TO SEE THEM CANONICALLY WANT TO KILL EACHOTHER WHILE STILL LOOKING AT EACHOTHER LONGINGLY BECAUSE THEY ARE TOXIC UNHEALTHY AND TRAGIC. I DONT WANT FLUFF OR HAPPINESS FOR THEM. I WANT LOVE TO BE A SICKNESS. AN INJURY. SOMETHING THEY COULDN’T WISH AWAY. I DONT WANT A DOMESTIC DISPUTE ENDING IN A SWEET KISS. I WANT ONE OF THEM TO BE BLOODY OR DYING. ANGER OR GRIEF STRICKEN. I WANT THEM TO BE TRAGIC. THEY DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER. BUT THEIR TRAGEDY AND THEIR ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP IS BUILT ON THE GROUNDS THAT THEY CAN NEVER HAVE IT. SO YEAH, I WISH THEY COULD BE HAPPY. BUT IF THEY WERE HAPPY, THERE WOULD BE NOTHING SO TRAGIC IN THE FACT THAT THEY CANT. DONT GIVE ME BREAKFAST EVERY MORNING AND DATES. EVEN THOUGH THATS ALREADY CANON. ITS CANON YES. BUT THEY AREN’T MEANT FOR DOMESTIC LIVES. THEY ARE DOOMED. And that’s what makes them interesting, unique, and a tradgedy that can rival shakespeare.

Jade shadows was...rough for me.
I am not going to talk about how it is a bit off that Jade did not get a single voice line, other people have pointed that out before.
But it is so clichéd when it comes to its themes.
Edgy dude has pure and literally angelic girlfriend. Girlfriend/wife gets pregnant, everyone is happy, then tradgedy strikes. Girlfriend/wife has to sacrifice herself for the plot to go on and character development of edgy dude to happen.
Edgy dude is now the sole caretaker of a child, and the child is the only person besides the girlfriend/wife edgy dude ever interacts positively with. Edgy dude reveals his softer side for his child.
I am aware that it is not the first time in Warframe that a woman becomes a sacrifice, but Lotus is a fully-fledged character. Jade is an incubator. Not because she is pregnant (being pregnant and wanting to have kids is an absolutely valid choice), but because she is never *shown* as anything else. Storytelling-wise her role is "die for drama, make baby for story".
The only other bit we get is her protecting Stalker for a split second, but that scene is frozen. She does not really do much, just float there, we learn nothing about her.
She does not only not talk, but she does not show any emotions or reactions .
When Lotus died, she was angry, disappointed, she died for what she thought was right. Reaction wise, Jade does a reenactment of the 'This is fine' dog meme.
In the end, I think describing the theme of the quest as 'motherhood' is incorrect. We do not get to see her be a mother. Her role ends before that.
It would have had much more impact if she herself would have walked the way to the shuttle at the end of the quest, to then collapse and die. Show her being a mother, show her protecting her child. Show her make the active decision. Show her doing *anything*.
It fits the theme of an angel perfectly, a symbol, a herald with no agenda of their own, but it makes for a lack-luster character.

There's just something else about writing a tradgedy
Like yes
You know how it ends, everyone knows how it ends
It's not a secret
You might know why it ends, even
It's written in the stars, it's right there in the summary "the last time" "never again" "it was good while it lasted"
The audience knows
The reader knows
The author knows
The characters dont
The characters still believe that they have a lifetime
The characters dont believe that its the last time until the last time already passed
They dont know that each time they are hand in hand, the author might call it and go "this is it, they will never have this again"
Each kiss could be their last
Each word rushes out of their mouth from the creator and it hurts and it's painful to see when the chapter count winds down, the pages go less and less
And you know what's going to happen
It's
Just
A
Matter
Of
When

I'd love to know more about Idia!Yutu once requets are open because im thinking so much about him, specially about how he would succeed in preventing the bad ending, I wanna see him succeed so bad . The themes of being a hero as a shroud would be everything good grief
I wanna see him earn that happy ending and feel so proud of himself for it by the end
This boy is gonna be the hero his dad and uncle always dreamt of being because be deserves that , and that is everything to me
I'm rooting for him as his local cool and shady self-proclaimed aunt
Your writing is wonderful, I can't wait to see everything you've yet to do but will soon!
Lastly, remember to unshrimp and hydrate
o/ hello new friend, Yutu is very grateful for the support ♡
I wrote a hc post for Idia! Yutu over here but it got a bit cut off by the bullet point limit. I love the idea of the symbolism surrounding heroism with the Shrouds reach a culmination in Yutu. Greek stories have a heavy focus on tradgedy, and while there is something tragic about Yutu having to live through that bad future and only find a way to fix it by going back in time to undo it there is also something hopeful about it. There is the very real risk that when he succeeds he will be cease to exist, I'm a bit conflicted on how I want to handle that? But one of the ideas I had was for Yutu to become a sort of time and world traveling mage, similar to how the Traveler in Genshin Impact is implied to have started out, or Sora and the keyblade weilders? It's been forever since I went through kingdom hearts lore... Of course he'd be proud to see the evil defeated and the day won, and since he's a Shroud he's also got to be so painfully smug. He succeeded, when everything in both worlds tried to curse his parents and resign them to the role of villain their son became the hero instead, life will continue and flowers will bloom in the underworld after all.
Thank you for the reminders and lovely words, when requests are open if you have more specific questions you wish for a detailed answer on, feel free to ask them.
