alright here's my idea - an au where jayvik meet as kids, with viktor working for a street magician, rigging all the fake tricks behind the scenes, and jayce as a little magic fanboy 🪄✨

some thoughts on this au:

jayce has been obsessed with magic acts ever since his life was saved by a sorcerer. there's a new performer in town who can do tricks no one else can, and jayce in convinced he must be the real deal. one day he sneaks backstage in the hopes of finding evidence of real magic, but finds viktor instead, who he assumes must be the magician's apprentice!

viktor is torn because he doesn't want to ruin this kid's enthusiasm, or risk losing his job by revealing the truth. but he also... really doesn't want to be a wizard. so he comes clean. (lol)

jayce is a little bummed to find out it's not real, but when viktor shows him how the practical effects work, jayce becomes enchanted once more. they look so convincing!! technology that can replicate magic?? he thinks that's brilliant.

from then on viktor has a little tag-along at all of their shows, and jayce even starts calling himself viktor's apprentice. viktor's embarrassed, obviously, but also undeniably charmed. he and jayce become friends, him teaching jayce about engineering and jayce (trying to) teach him about the arcane.

they are earth shatteringly adorable the entire time 😔

#persona 3 #persona 3 spoilers #minato arisato #makoto yuki #ryoji mochizuki #aigis #ryomina #lizzy does art #HELLO EVERYONE!!! march 5th is upon us again so i bring... my contribution for this year. my third year drawing for it!#i made the thumbnail for this a few weeks after last year's graduation day #i thought it would be fun to lean into the ryominaigis angle of graduation day (you could read this as minato/aigis if you like-#but i feel like most people would read it as ryoji/minato)#IN ANY CASE working on this made me very emotional over this game :') (specifically minato)#i really enjoy how p3 ends it's such a nice way of wrapping up the narrative's messages and themes #working on this. minato's kindness was at the forefront of my mind throughout the piece #and i really wanted to capture how. ultimately it was his decision to sacrifice himself- to do the great seal #while to an outsider's perspective it is. sad that minato passes. i think becoming the seal is something that minato-#actively welcomes. in the same way that death (ryoji) is a comfort to him because death was housed in him for Ten YearsTM #AND I ALSO GOT REALLY SAD OVER AIGIS TOO. i still get fucked up over how in fes's animated cutscene for 3/5 they portray-#her as human and not drawing the robot parts so i wanted to do something smilar here...#but also i am very sad on aigis's behalf because she discovers her humanity through minato and realizes what she-#wants to do and then. well. minato is like. he's ready to pass on (even if he's scared) and im like. I know we all get a giggle out of Dracula playing at being his own staff and running around the castle to do the work of a household by himself but a thought I had during today's entry was that it could be another tactic he uses to make Jonathan more vulnerable to his manipulation.

When the driver disappears, Jonathan is left waiting on the doorstep of the castle, waiting for the Count or a member of the staff to let him inside. All the while, he's stuck standing there in his thoughts, stranded in the mountains of a foreign country that are very much hazardous to him. There are wolves, strange blue flames, and an inescapable feeling of pure dread created by the foreboding scenery and general fear of the people around him. The whole journey to Castle Dracula, Jonathan felt afraid. And now he's alone with no way out, left with only his thoughts as he waits to be let into the 'safety' of the castle. He describes being crowded by his doubts and fears, wondering what on earth he's gotten himself into, but also how he can't turn back because he's a full-blown solicitor, and that this whole situation is starting to feel like a nightmare that he can't wake up from.

And then Dracula arrives, welcoming him inside and insisting on carrying his luggage for him, and Jonathan feels his doubts and fears melt away. Dracula - while strange to him in some ways and already arousing some suspicion with his resemblance to the Driver - immediately becomes a sort of safety from the nightmare. That long wait between the Driver's exit and Dracula's arrival generates an unease that can be taken advantage of.

In dogs, feelings of Fear leads to Seeking, Frustration and Rage behaviours. Whatever makes the Fear go away first becomes super reinforcing and the dog will go with what works: strange man with a big stick stops being scary if I bite him, then I'll bite faster the next time a similar threat appears. Going in my crate means the scary thing stays away from me, then I'll go in my crate when I feel scared. This person makes me feel safe? If a scary thing happens, I'll go to them and they'll either make sure the bad thing doesn't kill me or they'll tell me that I don't need to be scared.

In Jonathan's case, Dracula is the positive association. Scary place, scary circumstances, lots of doubt and fear? Well the Count I've come to visit has arrived to let me inside, away from the scary things, and is treating me to a lovely dinner while being very polite and courteous. I am no longer scared, therefore the Count is someone who makes me feel safe and therefore I am safe around him.

By letting Jonathan wait to be let into the castle and to engage in socialising, Dracula lets that fear build up. Lets it get to Jonathan just enough that he starts to feel it keenly before sweeping it away and becoming a point of refuge and safety. The only refuge and the only safety.
