bunch of Phantasy AU doodles n wip from earlier this year
Basically I just found out this year that ball-jointed dolls actually have strings in them and not just... magically attached by the ball joints themselves? And 31 in this AU is a ball jointed doll that were made out of Danny's energy so here we are :3c
I've been watching a lot of doll customization since earlier this year and found out from dollightful's video that no they are all connected by elastic strings inside so that's where the idea came from
...i was looking on google to find a good example to put here and clearly I'm not exactly paying attention to how the main body strings are actually.. pinned to?
Tumblr media
the video I've been watching the most is dollightful n moonlight jewel and they have their bjd usually only to the bottom of the doll head instead of all the way to the top on the skull pin like the diagram above
Which is why 31 has his strings all connected to the 'heart' in the middle instead of the head kasjdnkasjnd
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But yeah uhhh specifics aside...
----
Those ball jointed dolls made me think of 31, and then thinking about the clones in Phantasy AU and like.. the logistic of it
for 31, the idea is that during the circus gothica arc for this AU, Danny actually got kidnapped all the whole way into another universe/plane in which he met Valeska (Enn's oc) who unalive what his face the circus leader n break Danny's hypnosis
and now that Danny is essentially stuck in a whole other plane/realm/or sth he just following Valeska hoping she'll help him find his way back.
In one such trip, Danny got kidnapped (again) by another group/cult who wanted to use his power/energy as a gate keeper to the ghost zone to make their own gate keeper so they can open portals to ghost zones and maybe other realms too
31 is part of the experiments. He's a doll made with part of Danny's energy as his core.
And then it's.. uhh.. sth sth Valeska finally found out where they kept Danny and devour everyone there safe from Danny n 31 who helped him escape so now the three of them travel together~
The last pict is me thinking about clones and kingdom hearts :tm: so dramatic about Danny being the soul separated from the main body and 31 a clone made from part of the soul too and all that Not sure where I'm going with that but it do sound cool
And there's also Danielle but I'm not exactly sure.. how she would fit in? but it would be interesting if she was made from Danny's body somehow
so 31 made from part of teh soul and Dani from part of the body sounds poetic somehow

Translating the Dev's Headcanon Spread for Kyle's Family
Alright, so, I've gotten my hands on the Monster Hunter Stories 2 Art Book! That means it's time to translate This Image, piece by piece! The text on this is quite small, and the halftones can interfere with legibility at times, but I managed, for the most part. I'll be including notes for each section, particularly anything that may seem like an odd or interesting choice, for Maximum Transparency!
Tumblr media
Everything's Under the Cut!! Have fun!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
母:優しく穏やかな女性 // The Mother of The Family. A Loving, Gentle, and Quiet Woman.
I've chosen to write this in full sentences, rather than the original format, since that feels easier to communicate. You may notice that "Gentle" is both Green and Blue, and that's because 優しく and 穏やかな both communicate a kind of Gentleness, with 優しく being more like "Tender" and 穏やかな being more like "Calm".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
カイルがまだ幼い頃に病にかかりこの世を去ってしまう // She Fell Ill when Kyle was Very Young. She never Recovered, and Passed Away when he was still just a Child.
Before I Get Into Translation Notes - I Have Some Thoughts.
I'm going to be fully transparent - this part is one of the main reasons I got the book. I had my suspicions that she was terminally ill and died when he was young, but I didn't want to make any absolute statements until I could properly translate this passage. I had basically no doubts about it, though - this particular scene here is absolutely striking, and communicates what's going on extremely well even if you can't read it. Kyle's too young to understand what's going on. He thinks a flower will make her feel better. Meanwhile, you have the second youngest brother that's just barely old enough to know, and in that horrible point where he understands what's happening, but doesn't know what to do or how to handle it. Then there's the middle child, with enough emotional intelligence to know that comforting the second youngest and not dissuading Kyle's - the youngest of them all - attempts to help is the absolute best course of action here, to keep everyone strong while their mother (tries, and fails to) fight(s) her Terminal Illness. It's really amazing character work, all in one simple image.
This explains a lot about Kyle's actions during the course of the story. It's kind of difficult for a lot of people to understand why he reacts the way he does to his father getting injured, but with the context that he watched his mom die of a Terminal Illness when he was practically just a baby, and was powerless to do anything about it... It really makes sense, doesn't it? On a personal level, I mean. It also puts this post-game line into some new perspective...
Tumblr media
"I'm not putting on a brave face" is such particular wording, and such a particular reassurance to give. He's had to before, and the way he's saying this almost implies - to me, at least - that maybe the player character is intended to, perhaps, know about that bit of history. That's all Speculation, though - I just find it an incredibly interesting string of implications.
As for Translation Notes...
The main thing that may seem out of place is the fact that "She never Recovered" is in both Red and Green. That's actually nothing special, it's just the fact that her illness and her death are being linked together in this passage. She died because of her illness - not because she got, I don't know, eaten by a dragon or something later, in some odd unrelated event. She was Terminally Ill, emphasis on Terminal.
Tumblr media
カイル家族イメージ ― 作中には出てこない設定イマージです // Headcanons about Kyle's Family - These are Characters + Character-Establishing Headcanons that Do Not Appear in the Story.
Apologies for putting the Document Title all the way down here. I wanted to talk about Kyle's mom first, lol. I've already explained my reasoning for translating イメージ as Headcanon. I don't think anything else is all that noteworthy.

A Chart Depicting the Developers' Ideas for What the (Living Members of the) Family Looks Like. In Birth Order, we have...
長男:真面目・優等生 ― 23年
First-Born: Serious + An Honor Student - 23 Y.O.
次男:自信家・明るい ― 21年
Second-Born: Self-Confident + Cheerful - 21 Y.O.
三男:優しい・賢い ― 18年
Third-Born: Kind + Wise - 18 Y.O.
四男:勝気・負けず嫌い ― 16年
Fourth-Born: Determined + Hates Losing - 16 Y.O.
Me, personally, I think the birth order sounds right, but I'm not a huge fan of how young everyone is. The Fourth-Born looks 19-21 to me, the Third-Born looks in their mid-20s, so on and so forth. But that's partially just the fact that I, myself, am currently in my 20s, and generally really prefer writing + drawing adults. Straight up, I clocked Kyle as being at least 18 when I was doing my playthrough of the game, but this image seems to imply he's about 15. Extremely weird thought to me. I will personally continue writing him as an adult, and his siblings as generally way older than the Devs are estimating. That has no bearing on this piece of Dubious-Canon, however, just something I wanted to mention as a bit of an oddity to me.
Also, the second Kanji in the Birth Orders actually specifies that they're all sons (男), but I'm using the Gender Neutral forms of the Birth Order terms just because I find that more comfortable and less clunky, personally. No other reason.
And, no, I don't really know what that bit of handwriting next to the Third-Born's head is. I also currently cannot fully decipher what this passage (originally below the Headcanon Spread) means, though that's likely just a Skill Issue.
Tumblr media
If I figure it out, I'll likely Reblog this Post with an Update, but for now, I think I've covered what I can.
Thanks for Reading!! Hopefully you found this interesting, and maybe you found it useful!! The print on this spread was really, really small, and at times quite frustrating to decipher - hell, I just straight up gave up on the above passage - so any comments or compliments in the notes will be appreciated!!

So you've wrote a book, what's next?
So I recently started uni and naturally immediately joined my universities writing and book societies, last week I was sat editing my book when a couple of people approached me. Apparently through some light instagram stalking they had found out I published books and was wondering how on earth do you even do it.
Upon being on tumblr this week it turns out that this is a question that a lot of people are interested in, this being probably my most requested post ever?
ANYWAY. You've wrote a book, either you're two drafts in or fifty drafts in it doesn't entirely matter. I am going to give you the bad news that the work has only just begun.
The first choice you really need to make is whether or not you want to pursue traditional publishing or self/indie publishing. I believe the common misconception of the difference between the two is that one is 'Easier' than the other. Both are hard, just in different ways.
Traditional publishing is hard to break into, you need to convince enough of people that your book is worth selling which can be incredibly difficult and results in a lot of heartbreaking emails. However once you have that publishing deal you have those people in your corner to help with editing, cover design, and distribution among other things.
Self publishing, much like the name suggests, means that you have to do everything yourself, edit (or source an editor), design (or source a designer), marketing, the works. However the plus side of self publishing which I like is that you have a lot more creative control and freedom.
Now to be fully transparent, I am an indie author, naturally I am going to know a lot more about a process I have actually gone through rather than one I havent. However I do believe I can provide at least a rough guideline of the process so that people can get an idea of what going into it.
So starting with traditional publishing, assuming that you have a full draft that you've at least done some self editing on, your first step is finding an agent. You'll need a couple of things for this. First is make a document of the first 30 pages of your manuscript (a 'sample' if you will), and a query letter which is almost like a cover letter for your book, this is what potential agents will look at to judge whether they want to represent your manuscript.
I dont think I need to say it but your query letter is VITAL, please take time with it, some agents may not even look at your sample if your query letter is bad.
Now, searching for agents is relatively easy, there are a lot of databases online that will give you a list of agents and whether or not they are accepting submissions. Most agents will also have a kind of 'wishlist' of manuscripts they're looking to represent (e.g. sci-fi, philosophy, high fantasy), look for agents with a wishlist that includes your kind of book.
Once you have an agent they will be able to go to different publishing houses with your manuscript, hopefully leading to a book deal at some point. From there the publishers will help with editing, design, and distribution.
With self publishing the process is a bit more complicated. First is the editing process. Either you can edit your own manuscript if you feel up to it or you can source an editor. There are three different editors you can hire: Developmental editor, Line editor, and Proof reader. Almost every editor charges per word of your manuscript.
I would also recommend looking for Beta readers, these are readers who will read through an early copy of your manuscript for feedback (These are NOT editors, more reviewers). There are also ARC readers who you send an early copy to about 2-3 months before release to build interest in your book.
When it comes to the actual publishing itself, there are two main publishing platforms: kdp and ingram spark. Both of these are three besides the fact that you will need to buy an ISPN for your book to use ingram spark.
I think i'll leave it there because this is LONG, but i may turn this into a series, what do y'all want to know about?

here's my quick tutorial for making layouts in photoshop! i'll be going over how to make this 4-panel square one! ↳ requires basic knowledge of photoshop
「 step 1: making your file 」 make a new file, 540 x whatever height you want (just make sure it fits within tumblr’s image size guidelines), and make sure the background is set to transparent. for this specific layout, i want the overall shape to be square, so my dimensions are 540x540!
Tumblr media
「 step 2: mapping out 」 the best way to make sure your layouts are even and spaced equally is using guides! go to view > guides > new guide layout. the color of your guides doesn’t matter at all (i just like green so mine are green lol), and you can have as many columns and rows as you want. since this is going to be a 2x2 layout, i’ll have 2 columns and 2 rows. the general rule of thumb for gutter is 4px.
Tumblr media
once your guides pop up, select the rectangle tool by pressing U on your keyboard. make sure shape is selected from the drop-down menu at the top (right by the home button in the top left), and make sure that you have snapping on (view > snap).
using the rectangle tool, trace out your layout panels! as long as you have snapping on, your path should naturally snap to the guidelines, making it a LOT easier to do this! when you’re done making your rectangles, you can turn off guides by going to view > guides > clear guides (i usually keep them on until i’m done adding in my gifs but this is up to you). i always name each shape layer after where it is in the grid to not get confused.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
「 step 3: adding gifs 」 some quick things before i go over actually adding in your gifs: 1. make each of your gifs in their own individual files. you’ll be adding them into the main one later.  2. your gifs have to be the same length — you can cut them down to length in their own individual files or later in the main one. either way is fine, totally up to you!
now you have your layout set up, you can make and add your gifs! in order to make sure that they fit into the panels, check the dimensions of each shape you’ve created by selecting the layer and looking in the properties tab. my panels are each 268x268.
Tumblr media
i’ll actually be making each of my gifs 270x270, just to make sure that i don’t have any weird gaps or anything (i’ll talk about how i’ll be getting rid of the 2 extra pixels on each side later).
once you have your gifs done, you can duplicate them into the main one. convert your gif and anything else (coloring etc) into a smart object (right click > convert to smart object), and then right click it and select “duplicate layer”. make sure the document you’re duplicating to is the one with your layout in it.
layers automatically duplicate aligned into the top left corner. since this is where my first panel is, i can just leave my gif there, but for the other ones, drag your gifs into place using transform and your mouse (once again making sure that snapping is on).
Tumblr media
now to get rid of those extra pixels. this step also makes sure your gif is perfectly in line with the shape you’ve outlined the layout with. make sure your gif is right above the shape layer in the layers tab, and then right click and select “create clipping mask”. this makes sure your gif doesn’t go outside the limits of your guidelines. this is what it should look like in the layers tab:
Tumblr media
「 step 4: exporting 」 exporting a layout gif is pretty much like exporting any other gif, but you do need to check your matte settings before saving. the wrong ones can make what should be the transparent dividers solid, which can throw off the look of your gifs. make sure matte is set to “none”, and then save as normal!
Tumblr media
here's my finished gif:
Tumblr media
happy giffing! feel free to send me an ask/message me w any questions!

i thought nothing could be worse than the burning of byron’s memoirs but i stand corrected after reading jane austen’s poor wikipedia page
Tumblr media Tumblr media
because at least we still have thousands of byron’s letters and journals which are mostly uncensored and which reveal his personality in all of it’s aspects, flaws and all, and everyone in his circle documented every detail of his life because he was a huge celebrity. his letters are considered some of the most brutally transparent ever written. i'm just using him as an example; him and austen shared the same publisher, lived during the same time, both very studied.
but with jane austen? we don’t get that honesty or that truly full picture. her relatives are the main sources of information, and all her surviving letters were carefully selected by them to portray her according to a specific agenda which would favor them, and so the true extent of her personality can never be as fully ascertained.
but at the same time... i don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. she doesn't seem to have wanted attention for herself but to have likely preferred privacy, and her books have gotten more acclaim that she ever could have comprehended -- her books are the way we access her, her life, her thoughts and her voice. i think that about all writers, though i do love biographical criticism and biography.
some writers we know nothing about and some writers we know everything about -- at least they all live on in their writing, yes. but on the one hand, i'm grateful all writers live on in their work (as a fan of history and literature) and on the other hand, my unquenchable curiousity does get annoyed with the lack of available information. i would really love to read an extensive series of austen diaries. there is something sort of voyeuristic about this, i know, but there is also a love of preserving the niche parts of history, the parts that others overlook, the undervalued parts (letters, diaries, receipts, notes, scraps, drafts, juvenilia, etc.)
marcus aurelius wanted his diaries burned but perverse curiousity, likely driven by excessive admiration, led to their preservation, and thus we have his meditations which is now one of the most valued pieces of literature ever. so i think letters and diaries, and any piece of writing, does have immense value, even when it borders on a violation of privacy or has the potential to ruin a reputation.
i think this all simply ties in to the fact that i don't believe in book-burning in any form. embarrassing love letters from 1812 ARE important, depressing diary entries from 1818 ARE important. i could go on and on and on but the point is that i think all words and all history are imporant. in my classes we've discussed how archival technology is at the forefront of all human knowledge: what do we keep, what do we preserve, what do we spend more time on salvaging?
it just kills me that so much has been burned and destroyed, regardless of all the intense ethical discussions which could derive from all this, which could go on for a million years. my point is that it is tragic that so much of austen's work was destroyed, and it is tragic that byron's memoirs were destroyed even though we have so much of his work any way. any loss of writing is a loss to posterity.

DRAMA POST!!
Only read if you want to see my side of my grooming allegations (that are false), take care of yourself.
TW: Sexual Language & Mentions of Grooming, and Death & Dox Threats (Long Post Warning)
“Hello everyone.”
Tumblr media
Sorry I’ll be serious.
This is a response addressing a post calling me out that I have reposted on my blog. Please check theirs out for reference if you want a peek at all the lies they’re spreading about me/want the context of what I’m talking about. I want to make sure you see their (Albeit misinformed) side before you see mine to be as transparent as possible.
I honestly never thought I’d have to make one of these things but let’s get this over with.
To start off, I would like to say that this is NOT an apology as I have no one to apologize to and nothing to apologize for. This is me debunking every single lie that person put in their post. With screenshots of course.
With that being said, I’m very sorry to ABBY AND ABBY ALONE for being dragged into this and whoever made that callout is horrible for what they’ve done. (And to rnf & their mods as they seem to be the main target of that callout even though I’m the one being labeled as a groomer.)
[I will be giving the poster the benefit of the doubt as it seems they got all of their information from a separate party. I truly want to believe they just want to do the right thing and the person giving them the information is the malicious one. I understand trying to protect minors as you seem to be one as well (I was checking in on their account and their bio said 14 at one point? I don’t think it’s still there), but I promise it wouldn’t kill you to send me a DM to see if your information was correct.]
As for a warning of sorts, I will say that the messages between me and Abby were very sexual and I’m not exactly censoring myself going forward. So TW for sexual language/and mentions of grooming again. The only reason I’m not marking this post as explicit is because I want to make sure some people see it as I have literal grooming allegations against me, if it was anything less serious I would have.
Now let’s start with the elephant in the room.
ME AND ABBY ARE BOTH CONSENTING ADULTS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is 19-years-old, born in 2005. Refer to the screenshots above. She even sent me her ID to get into the NSFW part of my server.  Meaning she is not only an adult, but came to me with full interest in talking about sexual topics. (As she is very much so allowed to do as an adult, I just want to get that out of the way before the poster possibly pulls out a “well you were probably making her uncomfortable” accusation out of their ass. If Abby was ever uncomfortable she would have told me and I would have listened. Boundaries are something I take very seriously.)
Speaking of the NSFW side of my server, the poster claims that I was saying sexual things in front of the other minors in the server when everything, and I mean everything, was in the adult section of my server that requires ID verification to get into. I’m in fact very strict with sexual content on my server and IN THE CALLOUT POST they literally show me handling a member who posted a screenshot that contained a friend of theirs saying “I want ___ to eat my ass”.
(This was an easy mistake mind you and they didn’t have sexual intentions, they were just trying to be funny and share something crazy that their friend said. This is in no way trying to call that minor in my server out, don’t try to find them and leave my server members out of this. I just want to provide context as the member had their message deleted.)
As for their claims of me being racist. I am not. Simply put, I am not, they have provided no screenshots of me saying anything racist and I will not even entertain this statement any longer as it is baseless and downright ridiculous. Don’t include claims if you don’t have evidence to back them up PLEASEE.
Also, the document at the end with all of my shittily made drabbles is VERY misleading. “Dub-Con” WHAT? I promise you that just because Annabel is tied up does not mean she is not consenting. I can maybe see how it can be taken that way but my horny brain at the time wasn’t thinking “Oh and then I’ll make it dub-con!” DO NOT PUT THAT SHIT ON ME. 😭🙏
I am genuinely between being really angry about you posting my embarrassing as hell drabbles and fucking laughing. The “TW Cheating” TAG YOU ADDED IS SENDING ME. ITS OC X CANON I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU EXPECTED, IM SORRY? I wasn’t aware that was a cancelable offense since Monty was mentioned one time I’m losing it.
Now that I have addressed all the claims they have stated. It is now time for me to prove that every single one of their screenshots involving sex and things of that nature are in fact Abby. Warning once again that these screenshots get sexual as both of us were in what we assumed was a safe space to share down bad thoughts and fantasies involving the Nevermore characters and Abby’s OCs.
I will be posting each one of their screenshots in order (I'll try as much as I can running on 2 hours of sleep anyway), and I will explain the context for them of to be as transparent as possible:
Tumblr media
Just sexual OC x Canon shipping. You will be seeing a lot of that as we were having fun with Abby's super cool OCs and we talked about them very often.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joking around about one of the roleplays we were doing & more context for me sharing my splatoon fic with her..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OC x Canon shipping.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Embarrassing, but talking about kinks...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OC x Canon shipping.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jokes about how calm Ada's relationship was (With an OC!) vs Lenore x Annabel's. (Previously mentioned that Lenore was being dragged into the closet by the ankles) & More OC x Canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More jokes about how much we want to smash Lenore & Annabel (Sue me), and me asking sexual questions about her OC.
I’m a person that wants to enjoy Nevermore media in peace with other adults with similar interests in role playing, not a stain on the human race, the only truthful thing you said in your post about me is that I'm a bit of a freak.
I will admit, in a lot of those screenshots I was very out there and really oversexulizing the characters and I can totally see why someone could be made uncomfortable if they saw it. In fact the poster included some of the tamer messages between me and Abby. However I was doing it in a safe manner, in a place people gain access to with the intention of being sexual. So I wasn’t just shouting out every little idea I had to everyone in my server, no one was being forced to look at what I was talking about.
Unlike Crimson, who you are clearly trying to group me with, I’m a normal fucking person who happens to lust after the characters. I’ve posted smut on my Ao3 often and even advertised some of it (With the proper explicit tags) on my blog. It is no secret that I am attracted to the characters, and I honestly don’t feel like I have to repent for that.
My only bad intentions were my sexual ones with the characters who are proven to be 18+, whether you agree with the kinks shown in the screenshots or what I’m into in general does not matter (Not that any of my kinks are problematic as far as I’m aware? But I am very willing to learn if they are).
I did not deserve to be labeled a groomer.
Abby did not deserve to have her business outed to the public eye.
I hope, REALLY HOPE, that this was posted with good intentions, but seeing how it was handled and what your page is dedicated to my interests on the side seem to just be a  pawn of yours to get at rnf & the mods to incriminate them for not “handling me” when there is nothing to be handled. Speaking of the mods, now I’ll most likely have to explain and let them know I'm not a pedophile. Thank you SOOO much for that btw.
Leave me, and other bystanders in the fandom minding their own business out of this.
One more thing, though more so directed to the fandom, you guys can leave my inbox now? At this point I know it's not the same person and I need you guys to calm down. I genuinely had a few people ask me if I was lying about the death threats and I cannot make this shit up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your desperation for more drama and what you’re willing to do to make an already bad situation worse disgusts me beyond words and I’m actually really worried about drama pages now because this is not the first time blatant and dangerous misinformation has been spread in this fandom. Of course, that’s just me being emotional and making a whole lot of assumptions about your morals, so don’t quote me on that. Besides, the post didn’t get a whole lot of attention so I’m probably REALLY overreacting.
In conclusion-
Tumblr media
(Also as horrible as this is I find it funny that in all the screenshots I have that same Annabel Lee pfp on with the tiny bow. 😭😭)

Information About
Tumblr media
Writers, it's your turn to shine/see the specific application guidances that apply to writing applications (same thing, really...)
Applications open April 1 (this upcoming Monday)! Of course there is always complete information on our carrd, but if you are curious to see the application guidance for writers here instead, we entreat you to read below the cut!
General Application Guidelines
1. PLEASE tag your content!
The zine will be completely SFW and will not feature ships but we understand some people may wish to submit ship art or content that might be less family-friendly in their portfolios.
All mods are 18+ but we don't want any surprises, so please describe your art in the boxes provided if required!
2. At least ONE of your pieces must be Gravity Falls themed or featuring Gravity Falls characters.
We would particularly like to see your work of Ford, Stan, Mabel, or Dipper as the Pines family is the main focus of this zine!
3. Check your sharing settings!
If sharing a Google Drive folder link for your portfolio, please ensure your folder's sharing settings are set to 'allow anyone with the link to view'. You can test this on an Incognito browser or a browser NOT logged into your Google account to make sure.
Mods will NOT be able to contact every person who makes this mistake to ask them for a new link to their portfolio and it is very likely your application will just be dismissed.
Writer Specific Guidelines
*~*~*~*A note from us mods to you, for transparency: ~*~*~*~*
We won't have space for long fics in the physical zine due to page limitations, but we would like to include more of your work in our digital zine where we will have unlimited space. For the physical zine, a maximum of two pages of writing per writer will be printed, whether it is for the diary entry OR the writing piece. The rest of the pages will be printed in the digital zine if you wish to write more!
Please submit 2-3 pieces that best demonstrate your style of writing.
1. At least one sample should be a minimum of 1,500 words. All three samples combined should not exceed 7k words. (If you would like us to read a particular chapter or extract of one of your fics you should copy that into a word document and put it into a folder in your Google Drive portfolio).
2. Samples should be in English as this is the language the zine will be published in.
It doesn’t matter what kind of English spelling or vocabulary you use (British, American, etc) as long as you are consistent.
3. We will judge samples based on characterisation, grammar, punctuation, flow, and plot.
4. All samples must be entirely written by you. AI generated content is NOT allowed and does not count. Previous zine works are allowed but please ask for permission from your mods to share first! We will not be sharing ANY applicants’ links outside of the GF Seasons Zine Mod Team.
5. NSFW works will NOT be allowed in the zine (this will be a family friendly SFW zine!) but you CAN put them in your portfolio.
If your pieces require trigger warnings, feature ANY ships, or feature NSFW content there WILL be a space for you to write this on your form and we expect you to do so. All moderators are 18+ but we wish to avoid any surprises.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding (Yep, this was so important we included it twice!)
6. Two types of writing pieces will be featured in this zine- ‘diary entries’ from the perspective of Dipper, Ford, Stan, and Mabel; and ‘normal’ fics.
If you would be interested in contributing a diary entry for characters from the perspective of Stan, Ford, Mabel, or Dipper, please also provide a SHORT extract of how you think a diary entry by them might go!
And there you have it! Please let us know if you have any questions, and we look forward to checking out your applications! See you April 1st!
The GF Seasons Zine Mod Team

🌻 topic: colors
I heard an expert recently assert that there can't be any such thing as neon brown because "It's the opposite of what makes something neon"...
I know for a fact this is untrue, because I have made neon brown.
What he got right was that the reason something is neon is that it absorbs all wavelengths of light and emits them back in a narrow range, basically bending all light into the specific colour of neon it is. People know that this makes things look like they are glowing under a black light.
What he missed was this: It isn't just black light, any coloured light that should make the colour range look washed out will let something neon shine, for example, plant lights [red and blue] will make the green of plants look washed out and dull, BUT neon green will still look bright fucking green, so you can get the neon colour effect from just limiting the colour of light you are using to something opposite the neon colour in question. AND you can MIX neon pigments.
And what he didn't account for is that if you do mix neon pigments, they don't interfere destructively, they interfere constructively [or I think you'd say it's "additive" not "subtractive"??] with each other, so they'll each take invisible light and bend it to the wavelength they 'prefer' so the more of them you mix, the closer you get to white light and the brighter the result...
So if you mix all the neon colours you can get something that looks dark brown, depending on how transparent the paint, or dark grey, but glows white or off white, or beige-ish in tone under a black light.
I know because I have done this. I have a tube of this stuff mixed up. I have posted pictures somewhere. I have proven this concept. I documented it, so it's science.
Also!! They now think clown shrimp actually see the same spectrum as us, and just have a dedicated cone for each major colour instead of guestimating colour from RGB... So really, shrimp colours are our colours, excpet rgb monitors, which probably look like shit to a shrimp.
Also you face different levels of restrictions on what you can do as a pilot depending on how colour blind you are. Because you literally can't distinguish colours or colour signals... So it seems kind of like a plot oversight to have the main guy flying your super-jet to only see in shades of red??? Wouldn't you want the guy with the sharpest senses who's the least likely to become or stay unconscious from anything going wrong? The lack of colour vision at least seems like a hazard. Yes I am saying Scott Summers should not be flying a jet. Irresponsible. I mean I don't have to tell anyone on tumblr that magenta is something your brain made up. Or about synesthesia probably.
But I do experience a weird colour-sensation synesthesia where really sore muscles make me see electric blue... which is also 'e' and '6'...

7. Design and Aesthetics
Dedicate a section to design, focusing on selecting guest room furniture that fits your hotel’s theme and brand. Thoughtful choices in furniture can create a welcoming atmosphere that guests will remember. Work with interior designers to find pieces that are both functional and attractive.

9. Risk Management
Think about potential risks, like supply chain issues that could affect furniture delivery, and come up with backup plans. Building relationships with several suppliers can help ensure you always have quality furnishings available.
10. Appendices
Include extra materials like furniture inventories, supplier contracts, and maintenance schedules. These documents add transparency and support the operational side of your business plan.
In summary, a well-rounded hotel business plan sets the path for your venture and highlights the significance of guest room furniture in shaping the guest experience. By planning carefully and investing in quality furnishings, you can create a comfortable and appealing environment that leads to happy guests and a successful hotel!

in the interest of full transparency, I thought I'd make a little post about this account.
I am the owner of Kiwiwatermelongrapejuice, another tumblr blog that you may or may not have come across in your Larry journey. In the grand scheme of things, I haven't been on tumblr long (a few years, perhaps?) but I've been a Larry since 2013ish (albeit a very dark, quiet one, thinking I was mostly alone.) Back then I was also in a haze of newborn baby, mothering my then 4 year old twins and general life. 1D and Larry were a safe space and a retreat when I needed to check out of my daily life, but I didn't realise tumblr existed. Such a waste, really. In my real life, I am a Literacy Learning Specialist. I love books, reading, writing, the English language and all that those titles imply. I am, at best, a very basic writer and I make no pretence to possess skills in this area. However, I am highly trained to produce good writers, and I have strong opinions about the work I read. Not long after I started reading Fan Fiction, I started tracking them in a Google Sheets document. It has grown and grown, and I find myself wanting to share this love with other Larries. No other platform attracts the same amount of intelligent and critial thinkers like Tumblr does. My aim is to help showcase amazing fics and spread the word about them through this account, to give authors more visibility and readers on their account. This account will ONLY post information about fics or AO3, my main account will still be my normal Larry blog.
If you are an author wanting more visibility, please send me a link and some info about your fic, I would be happy to help get it out there! Spread the word about this account, because the more followers it has, the better the visibility for everyone.
Readers, you benefit too by having access to regular fic recs. I am more than happy to look for particular tropes or search for particular fics- this is a customer service account. I am here to serve you!
Please follow and share and let's get some amazing fics into the hands of readers!
(I also dabble in very bad fan-art, if you were wondering what that pic was!)

(Ghost Pokemon AU) Ghost Type Pokemon Pac Trio
So I was working on the Ghost Pokemon AU and was going through a resurgence of a PMATGA hyperfixation at the moment and then I remembered "Hey the main characters of PMATGA have a role in this ,AU, why not draw them in the AU?",and because of that, here we are! This AU spans a lot of series and is very extremely crossovery in general, so why not! I need to make a masterpost/synopsis of this AU, I swear-
Also Spiral was a pain to draw bc I never drew Dragapult before and AAAAAAA- (I'm fine! Don't worry! Haha! Seriously though why...)
So they are! In all of their ghost fighting glory!
Started on: 2-18-2024
Tumblr media
it's to be noted that they didn't start out in these forms exactly. A series of events caused their souls to take the forms they did. I made their eyes look similar to how ghosts in the show had them. Also the reason for the spectral lighting was because of Dragapults looking slightly more spectral... I'll try to elaborate more when I get to it.
Pac (Gengar)
Tumblr media
The yellow boi himself! The way he goes out is on the hands of a certain other ghost fighting hero through way of misunderstanding. The beginning of his character arc is based on a fanmade one minute melee on Deviantart I read when I was younger. (I might link to it when I find it...) I will probably make the choreography of the fight somewhat different to that but the outcome is the same. I chose Gengar because of their long tongues and round bodies. (That and the fact the ears can be made to resemble his eyebrows.) He is known as the "Golden Gengar" to locals via rumors and became quite the urban legend. But rest assured, he is still the same Pac inside! Just more traumatized! :')
Cyli (Gourgeist)
Tumblr media
Cyli is a Gourgeist since it and Pumpkaboo could be seen as a somewhat gothic cute ghost type Pokemon. (If that reasoning makes sense...) The fur of Pumpkaboo is black and the hairstyle of Gourgeist is simular in my opinion. Also the default shinies mesh well enough ingame. Besides the grass typing is somewhat befitting of her upbringing. So, how did she end up like this? Well, if i'll be honest, I didn't quite document how well her death goes quite yet. Same with Spiral. I only have the basics rn. Essentially, she dies to a mysterious enity in a meadow with a colony of pumpkins (is that what a group of pumpkins called...?) growing in Autumn. Her soul destablizes and is forced to bind into a pumpkin, giving a new form! By the way, she is an Average Size Gourgeist.
Spiral (Dragapult)
Tumblr media
And finally, Spiral is a Dragapult! He wound up killed in the Lake of Dragons. (Name and Location Pending) His soul wound up absorbing the ancient draconic energies in the lake causing him to take the form of a Dreepy. Dragapult is from what I recall the tallest of the three pokemon, so it seem pretty befitting for him! (Also it gives me an excuse to use Dragapult somewhere, so yea.) He basically has a whole story thing with Soko, as Soko has the distinction of being the first of the three's Partner Digimon to find out about their respective deceased Tamer's whereabouts and travels with him! At one point after he first evolves a random Dreepy finds him and follows him around! He eventually goes "I guess it's mine now." and takes it in. (You could probably guess more eventually came.) He basically exudes so much big sibling energy that it was inevitable anyways!

In the mid-1980s, although its dissolution was nearly at hand, few were predicting the complete demise of the Soviet Union. But when it came to the politics of leadership succession, a country that had been widely feared or respected for decades had already begun making a mockery of itself.
By the late 1970s, Leonid Brezhnev, the once-vigorous man who had shunted aside Nikita Khrushchev in 1964 to lead the country, had been reduced to a shell of his former self by years of heavy smoking, hard drinking, and emphysema. He visibly huffed and puffed as he walked with a shuffling gait, and he occasionally slurred his words or displayed obvious memory lapses.
After Brezhnev, things in Moscow only got worse. He was succeeded by the former intelligence chief, Yuri Andropov, who was regarded in almost equal measure as a reformist thinker and as a corrupt and sternly authoritarian figure. No one knows which of these traits might have prevailed over time, because time was the one thing Andropov did not have. He died at age 69, his power lasting only 15 months, during the last year of which he suffered total kidney failure.
Andropov was followed by the scarcely-remembered Konstantin Chernenko, another heavy smoker afflicted with emphysema and heart problems. His rule only lasted for 13 months. The historian John Lewis Gaddis said of the ephemeral Chernenko that he was “an enfeebled geriatric so zombie-like as to be beyond assessing intelligence reports, alarming or not.” Chernenko’s death in office paved the way in 1985, finally, for the comparatively youthful Mikhail Gorbachev.
But by then it was the Soviet system itself that was running out of time.
Existential crises linked to the vagaries of succession politics are typically thought to be the province of authoritarian systems that lack regular and transparent rules for the passing of power from one leader to the next. But for the past three years, it is precisely this specter that has hung over the world’s oldest electoral democracy, the United States.
This has never been clearer than in the past two weeks. First, the mental competence of President Joe Biden, 81, was called into question in a report by Robert Hur, a special counsel appointed to look into the president’s improper handling of classified documents, and then by new flights of disturbing rhetoric by former President Donald Trump, 77, raised renewed profound questions—or should have—about his own fitness for presidential office. Describing a real or imagined conversation about NATO dues with a European leader, Trump related: “I said: ‘You didn’t pay? You’re delinquent?’ … ‘No, I would not protect you, in fact I would encourage [Russia] to do whatever they want. You gotta pay.’”
There is a dismaying amount of confusion in the parallels and comparisons that many commentators have drawn between these two men, the current president and his immediate predecessor, each the prohibitive favorite at this point to head his party’s ticket in the coming election. This proceeds from the unavoidable impression that some things must be broken in the United States for its two main political parties to have simultaneously offered up two such flawed candidates.
There is a world of difference in the ways in which they are flawed, though. The anxieties and discontent aroused by Biden’s performance, whether it is his frequent public memory lapses and misstatements or his shuffling gait and other signs of frailty, are perfectly normal. It is far from ideal for the United States to be led by someone with such traits, but there is nothing about the Biden presidency that conceivably threatens the future of the U.S. republic.
Like his politics or not, for this is not a partisan argument, Biden has presided over a smoothly functioning government that with few exceptions has executed its policies in competent and predictable ways. Other than the outlier factor of Biden’s age, history will likely regard his tenure as fitting firmly within the conventional bounds of U.S. politics. Even Biden’s potential death in office, which would be unsurprising given that, if reelected, he would be 82 years old on Inauguration Day, would yield a routine and proper succession by an elected vice president whom the American people would be free to throw out on the regular timetable should they choose to do so.
The case of Trump, though, couldn’t be more different. Whether one calls it an insurrection or not, the former president’s attempts to rally support for him to stay in power on January 6, 2021, or arm-twist lawmakers and his vice president to bend electoral rules for the same purpose were threats to the integrity of the U.S. political system. And they were not the only ones he has created, either. It is, of course, Trump’s right to defend himself against the many charges he faces in numerous courts of law, but one of his arguments should be seen as uniquely menacing—namely, that a president should be free from prosecution for any criminal behavior committed while in office.
The U.S. Supreme Court must now decide whether to consider the former president’s argument. A legal victory by Trump in this case, however unlikely, would spell the end of republican-style rule in the country by placing presidents above the law.
Trump has also positively invoked the word dictator in describing himself, unreassuringly justifying this by saying this aspiration would only apply to his first day back in office.
He has backed the state of Texas in refusing to comply with a federal court order asserting Washington’s control over the country’s borders, reportedly pledging to encourage other states to send their national guards to Texas to bolster its defiance of the United States’ federalist order. He is reportedly considering naming his daughter-in-law as head of the Republican Party, no crime to be sure, but a personalizing corruption of the political system in line with his other authoritarian instincts. And most recently, as the quote above shows, he has casually threatened members of the NATO alliance that if they don’t meet an agreed benchmark for defense spending, he would not only tolerate a Russian attack on them, but also encourage it.
Even taken individually, many of these positions or actions pose existential threats to the United States that are far more threatening that any concerns raised by Biden’s age. It is the NATO comment, though, that brings us back directly to the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
That country’s decay was brought on by the failure of its elites at renewal and reform. The ossification of its system was symbolized, if not exactly brought on, by the advanced age or poor health of its leaders in the pivotal moments of the 1980s. Economic growth in the Soviet Union was the envy of the world in the 1950s, and one might argue that, in fact, it was in the following decade that the country’s political system became too hidebound and corrupt to continue thriving.
Trump’s NATO rhetoric—and, should he become elected, his anti-alliance politics,—are even more damaging. They strike at the heart of U.S. success and prosperity in the world. If pursued, they would deliver a devastating blow to both the country and the global order, an own-goal with few historical parallels.
As filtered through Trump’s mind, alliances are like mob protection rackets in which the payments must keep flowing upward or back to the boss to keep him happy. Otherwise, he will allow bad things to happen, and the victims will have deserved their fate. Biden presents none of these risks.
There seems to be no recognition that the United States has been the premier beneficiary of its great alliances. Its former enemy Japan, for example, helped the United States in crucial, if indirect ways, in resisting North Korea’s takeover of the Korean Peninsula in the 1950s, and South Korea and Japan similarly helped Washington during the Vietnam War. Taken together, they and other allies in Asia are what allow the United States to maintain a favorable order and counterweight to China in the world’s most economically dynamic region.
NATO, likewise, has been similarly indispensable to U.S. power and preeminence in the North Atlantic. For decades, it has kept the peace in Europe and prevented renewed bids by Russia for imperial expansion. The accession of Sweden and Finland to the alliance that is now underway is not a sign of Washington being taken for a ride, as Trump might imagine, but rather a reaffirmation of U.S. power and vitality in the world. Enormous prosperity has flowed from this peace, as much to the United States as to the Europeans themselves.
Ukraine has been the one major exception in the post-Soviet era, and just as Trump seems to have no idea why the United States should help protect NATO members, he seems equally clueless about why allowing Ukraine to crumble before Moscow’s aggression should matter on the far side of the Atlantic.
I write this as someone who has spent a career freely criticizing Western imperialism, including the United States’ own. But if you want to overturn long-standing constitutional arrangements or the architecture of grand alliances, as Trump seems so inclined to do, you should have a coherent plan for alternatives. In a democracy, that should mean an exhaustive discussion and adherence to legal processes and informed choices at the ballot box. From Trump and many of his most ardent supporters, one hears no hint of anything beyond grievance and will to power. Matters of democracy fall by the wayside. All that remains is to follow the great leader.
Trump is a man who personalizes everything and seems to operate on impulses, whims, and grudges. If he is given a second chance to follow and execute them, in another decade or two, historians may be writing the kinds of books one can find today about the Soviet Union in the 1980s, all asking some version of the question: How did things go so completely off the rails?
The big difference, it seems, is that if this befalls the United States, it would be the result of an election in which voters choose a dangerous and incompetent leader—and one who is, moreover, nearly as old as Biden—and not a matter of elite mismanagement of an undemocratic succession. He would be enabled by members of his own party who have repeatedly shown little inclination to stand up to him on matters of constitutional or democratic principle.
Under such a grim scenario, it would not just be the conductor driving the train into the abyss, but also half the passengers, the station master, and the switch operators all contributing to the derailment.

While we're not your biggest fans by any means and do feel bad for what happened with kipandkandi it really feels like they dug their own grave there.
If they had trauma from slander perhaps they shouldn't have went on a hate campaign against your blog for ages to the point of spamming their positivity blog with it for a week. It feels hypocritical at best and outright two faced at worst.
We hope they recover well, but if they can't handle what they themselves serve they probably shouldn't be interacting with a space as inherently toxic and agressive as syscourse, especially when they did worse.
I really wouldn't be cavalier with phrasing of "dug their own grave" right now.
But, yeah... I feel the same sentiment.
Everything about their posts on this are just filled with hypocrisy and projection.
Warning: what's about to follow is a very angry vent.
They accuse me of having a "vendetta" against their alters. I've literally only talked about them a few times over the past few days due to everything happening. Meanwhile, my name has been continuously mentioned on their syscourse blog since the start of the year.
They accuse me of talking about them behind their back. I was blocked during the entire period they attacked me since around, I think, April to July 17th when they unblocked me to try to get me to read their document. They tried again on July 18th. And I blocked them right after.
They accuse me of block-evading, but their whole defense of why they @'d Eeveecraft is because they claim that they thought tagging them would still send the message to the account that blocked them.
This also means, by extension, that when they @'d me in May with a post calling me bigoted and transphobic, they intended for that post to be sent to my notifications despite having me blocked at the time.
They also said that they plan on remaking their post on their main because Eeveecraft doesn't have them blocked there... which... is still block evading. If somebody blocks you on one account, don't try to contact them on another.
They consider me mentioning them a few times without tagging them block evasion. Which... I genuinely don't think is true. Blocks aren't gag orders. As long as you aren't encouraging harassment or trying to contact a user, I don't think there's a rule against talking about people. But if it was block evasion, then they've clearly done much worse between both their syscourse blog and the positivity blog. (And for that matter, I think most of their friend group has made posts about me by name while having me blocked.)
And as I said in the other post, @'ing somebody you have blocked is bad because it links potential harassers directly to the blog of the other person. Don't @ them.
And immediately after reading my post explaining that @'ing doesn't send notifications to the blocked users and that all it does is make it easier for harassers to get to them, they @ my blog and link to two of my posts "for transparency". Which since they read and comprehended my previous post, I can only possibly interpret the @'ing as them trying to get me harassed.
There's no other explanation, is there?
It's the only possible reason to do that after it's explicitly explained that there's no other advantage to @'ing blocked accounts.
Block Evasion ✅
Talking About People Behind Their Back ✅
False Accusations ✅
Spreading False, Targeted Rumors ✅
Personal Vendetta ✅
After calling me an asshole, a proud racist, a transphobe, a zoophilia supporter, a bigot, telling me to get banned, and so much else on their blogs... I said "reporting someone seems like something they would do since they told me to get banned, but there are a lot of other suspects who are just as likely who could have done it too so IDK 🤷‍♀️" and I said them saying people are being incredibly racist is an "attack."
These are the things they refer to as "slander."
I legitimately believe them when they say I hurt them. Because their continuous, almost-obsessive attacks felt very personal for some reason. But like you, I feel that if getting a tiny fraction of what they dished out back caused them this much distress, they really should have stepped away a long time ago for their own health.
I sincerely hope that they can find healthier coping mechanisms. And, for the love of the gods, stop tagging people who have them blocked!
Also, this should go without saying, but please don't send hate to them. Don't harass them. Don't engage with them. I'm angry at the repeated smears and am expressing that, but the last thing I'd want is for anymore harm to come to them.

What to Look for When Buying an Apartment in Bommasandra
Bommasandra, a fast-developing locality in South Bangalore, is gaining popularity among homebuyers due to its growing infrastructure, industrial connectivity, and affordable housing options. Whether you're a first-time homebuyer or looking to invest, finding the right apartment in this area involves more than just choosing the right size or design. If you’re considering a reputed project like Global Edifice, you’re already on the right track — but here’s a checklist of things you must evaluate before making the big decision.
1. Connectivity and Location
Location is everything in real estate, and Bommasandra scores well on that front. It lies close to major industrial hubs like Electronic City and Jigani Industrial Area, making it ideal for working professionals. Ensure the apartment you choose offers easy access to main roads, highways, and public transportation, including the upcoming Metro line, which will further enhance connectivity.
2. Reputation of the Builder
When investing in a property, always check the credibility of the builder. Projects like Global Edifice stand out because of their commitment to quality construction, timely delivery, and transparent documentation. Make sure to research previous projects by the builder, read customer reviews, and verify legal approvals before proceeding.
3. Amenities and Facilities
Modern-day apartment living is about more than just four walls. Look for amenities like security systems, power backup, parking, children’s play areas, gym, and community halls. These features not only improve your lifestyle but also add long-term value to your investment.
4. Quality of Construction
The quality of materials used, the layout, ventilation, and structural strength play a vital role in determining the safety and longevity of your home. Visit the site, talk to existing residents (if any), and assess whether the apartment meets your expectations in terms of design and finishing.
5. Legal Clearances and Documentation
Before buying, ensure the property has all necessary approvals from BBMP or BDA, and the builder has obtained RERA registration. Check for clear titles, occupancy certificates, and other compliance documents. This step protects you from future legal complications and ensures your purchase is secure.
6. Budget and Pricing Transparency
Compare the cost per square foot with other nearby properties to get a fair idea of pricing. Some developers offer flexible payment plans or pre-launch discounts — but always ensure there are no hidden charges. Flats in Bommasandra are known for being budget-friendly, but pricing must align with the value offered.
7. Rental and Resale Potential
If you're buying the property as an investment, research the rental trends and future growth prospects in the locality. Bommasandra’s proximity to IT parks and manufacturing units gives it a strong rental market. Apartments in Bommasandra are often in demand due to this advantage, making it a lucrative choice for investors.
8. Future Development Plans
Lastly, take note of upcoming infrastructure projects like new roadways, Metro expansion, and schools or hospitals nearby. These can greatly influence property appreciation. Living in an area that’s on the rise means your investment will grow in value over time.
Conclusion
Choosing the right apartment involves a combination of research, location assessment, and trusting a reliable developer. With all the ongoing development and connectivity improvements, Bommasandra is quickly becoming a top residential choice in Bangalore. Projects like Global Edifice offer a great mix of quality living and smart investment. Whether you're looking at apartments in Bommasandra or comparing flats in Bommasandra, keeping the above points in mind will help you make a well-informed decision for a secure and comfortable future.

We, by Yevgeny Zamyatin (Mirra Ginsburg translation) - 5/5
"Oh, great, divinely bounding wisdom of walls and barriers! They are, perhaps, the greatest of man's inventions. Man ceased to be a wild animal only when he built the first wall. Man ceased to be a savage only when we had built the Green Wall, when we had isolated our perfect mechanical world from the irrational, hideous world of trees, birds, animals..."
We is a communist dystopia novel that takes place after the Great 200 Year War has utterly destroyed the world and fractured mankind, giving way for totalitarian governments to seize control of populations like a plague. Our protagonist, D-503, lives in the One State. A giant city of millions—walled off from the barbarism of nature—where everything is made of transparent glass, every hour of the day is mandated, and individuality of the citizen is the biggest threat to the status quo. The very freedom of thought is suppressed, critics of the state are lynched, and election day is a parodial ceremony in which every citizen lines up to unanimously vote for and celebrate the only candidate on the bill—the authoritarian ruler ironically referred to as the Benefactor.
Very cool setup already, but the reason I love this book so much is because of how much of a personal focus it has. This is really a story about one man's complete unraveling in the face of his own individuality. D-503 poetically documents his descent into soul sickness as the chains of his indoctrination are weakened. He is confronted with the shame of his thoughtcrimes, the fear of being othered by the State, and grief over the loss of his old self—blissfully ignorant and safe.
One of the most interesting things I found about We is how subtle the genesis for D-503's unraveling is. There is no big bang moment where everything changes, no tragic Batman origin story; instead, the shift creeps in slowly and seizes him before he even has the chance to shake it off. The novel begins as a regular day in the life journal entry of our protaganist before he meets someone who points out a minor difference in him, and the ball just starts rolling from there, growing larger as the crack in his foundation widens. As D-503 spirals further and further from himself, the book becomes more manic and philosophical. It really feels like the author is going mad as he comes to grips with the true nature of his being.
Subtle, complex, profound, terrifying, visceral—these are all words I could stick on this book, yet none of them come close to conveying how big of an achievement this novel is, especially considering the background of the author, who endured censorship and legitimate exile in the Soviet Union for his works. There are some big parallels to his own life experience bound into this novel, which increases tenfold the sense of personhood in the main character. It's truly a stunning piece of work, and one that I am already looking forward to reading again. Easily one of my favorite reads of the year, and right up there with Solaris and The Dispossessed as my favorite philosophical sci-fi novels of all time.
(side note: I have not read 1984 by George Orwell, but after reading We, I don't think I ever want to. I just don't think I'll ever be able to engage with 1984 on its own terms knowing that it lifted so much of the plot from this book. Major L for Orwell. I don't care.)
