(unpopular opinion, I know, but) swords and knives made it a much better movie than sex would have. I get it if you disagree but it was pitch-perfect to me

if i had a nickel for every time the best friend duo that was the cornerstone of an entire trilogy got split apart at the end of the 3rd movie, ruining the entire trilogy for me, i'd only have 2 nickels, but it's strange that it's happened twice

Steve hasn't read out loud since 4th grade - he still remembers the snickers of his classmates when he stumbled over the words as the letters twisted and turned on the page.
He doesn't like to read in general. It takes him so long to finish a story, let alone an entire book. He tried to read Hamlet once. When he and Nacy were a thing and he knew she liked classic literature. He hated it. Shakespeare, while the storyline seems to be interesting enough, nearly bored him to death.
So, that's the thing: Steve doesn't read, especially not out loud.
But then Vecna happened, and while Max and El finished the bastard off, they barely managed to get a deadly wounded Eddie out of the Upside Down.
(Eddie died in Dustin's arms and came back to life under Steve’s furious hands.)
While Eddie is bound to the hospital bed, unable to move, Steve picks up The Hobbit. He doesn't intend to read it, but when Edide can't hold the book long enough, let alone concentrate on it, Steve takes over. (He always does these things for the people he cares about. It is a small mystery to Steve when he started to care about Eddie.)
So, he reads - stumbling over the words, stuttering and slowly, but instead of laughing or making snide comments, Eddie listens to him patiently, a small smile on his lips.
(They finish The Hobbit and the first of Lotr before Eddie is allowed to leave the hospital.)
Steve thinks with Eddie free to go, that's it. No more hours sitting together and learning the tale of Frodo and Sam.
He is surprised when Eddie wants to hang out with him every other day. (He didn't think Eddie would want to be his friend.)
Two months after Eddie was allowed to go home, they lie in Eddie’s bedroom, sharing a joint and listening to Dio when the cassette comes to an end and Eddie turns slowly to him, brown eyes wide.
(Steve doesn't try thinking about kissing Eddie. He fails. Just a little bit.)
it's then when Eddie turns and grabs something from underneath his bed. A book. The two towers. "Aren't you interested how the story continues?"
Instead of waiting for Steve to answer, Eddie lays back down and starts reading. He is so much better than Steve at it - voice animated, each character distinguished.
(Steve loves it. Maybe even loves Eddie a bit.)
After a while, Eddie's voice gets rough and he pushes the book into Steve's hands, "Your turn." And he's too high to say no, so he reads. Less animated, less practiced, but Eddie lays his head on Steve's stomach and he smiles, humming whenever they reach parts he especially likes.
(If Steve's free hand runs through Eddie's curls every now and then, there's no one here to call them out for it.)
The letters still play tricks on him, turn and twist and make it hard for him to read, but Steve gets better. He doesn't really care if he comes to a stuttering halt or if he doesn't know how to pronounce a word, because Eddie doesn't seem to mind and only speaks to help when Steve gets frustrated with himself. Then they take turns and Eddie takes over reading.
(If Steve gets frustrated on purpose so Eddie reads for him, it's our tiny secret.)

Losing my mind over how Frodo and Sam start off as “master and servant” within the Shire’s class system, but the moment they leave that system behind and are just two hobbits trying to survive in the wilderness, the entire Quest of the Ring essentially turns into the World’s Most Horrifying First Date, and they come out of it barely alive but desperately in love, and spend the next several months in the greatest and fairest lands in the world (Ithilien, Minas Tirith, Rivendell) for what’s essentially a well-earned honeymoon and when they return home to the Shire, they go “screw the class system” and literally move in together and then open their doors to Rosie and all three of them get to spend six precious months raising Elanor as one happy family before Frodo’s wounds from that First Date force him to say goodbye for a full 61 years but not before he makes Sam his heir and Sam - like a widow - inherits all of Frodo’s wealth and lives a prosperous life with Rosie because of it, and then eventually, it is Sam’s actions during that First Date that grant him the privilege to go after Frodo and get their happily ever after.

Established Steddie, they have been living together for over a decade, did their best to heal their wounds from the Upside Down and learn to enjoy life again. It's not easy but they do it.
When the Lord of the Rings movies come out, it's actually Steve who suggests watching them to Eddie. He really tries engaging with Eddie's passions, but his focus is not the greatest when it comes to books. That doesn't mean he doesn't listen to Eddie ramble about them though - he knows all about hobbits, second breakfasts, the culture of smoking in the Shire...Eddie admires a lot of characters from the books, but ever since experiencing the Upside Down fuckery, he actually admits that the hobbits had a point. Good food, even better company and good tobacco? What else does one need? It also inspires Steve a few years later to prepare a full day of hobbit-inspired meals for their trilogy marathon when the extended editions come out. But this is about their first time watching the movies.
They both go to the movie theater excited. Steve is familiar with most of the characters, including Eddie's self-admitted crush on Aragorn. And Steve can see why, he can see so much good in all the members of the fellowship. After the first movie, he's wiping his eyes because Boromir deserved better. Eddie has a lot to say about what was lost in adaptation, but Steve knows Eddie loves those movies and would cut off his only remaining nipple before missing the next ones.
The Two Towers have Steve rooting for the ents and he feels strangely touched about how everyone underestimates Pippin, yet it's him who gets the ents to march. He really can't pick a favorite character. He can't wait for the third movie.
They go to the premiere of the Return of the King with Eddie. They secretly hold hands in the last row, and Steve watches the ride of the Rohirrim with bated breath. He clenches his hand in Eddie's when Theoden gets gravely injured, but then Éowyn is there and...oh.
He is staring slack-jawed at the scene. Éowyn's large, terrified eyes, the towering frame of the Witch King. Her posture was fearful, crouched, but still she faced him. And something surfaces in his head, something he's long forgotten.
He's unusually queit when they come back home, he still loves the rest of the movie, almost cries at "my friends, you bow to no one,", then definitely cries at Frodo leaving the Middle Earth. But there is still that something and Eddie can sense it. When they're falling asleep together, Eddie finally asks him. And Steve's had enough time to process what he felt.
"When Éowyn faced the Witch King...it reminded me of what it felt like. I mean, for the first time. I know it's stupid because saw so much unnatural shit, but...it's the first time that I have hard time forgetting," he admits quietly. "She reminded me of me in 1983 so much. I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I thought I'd do the right thing, but then I had a gun pointed at me, they both had blood on their hands...and then it appeared."
Eddie doesn't speak, he only holds Steve closer.
"It was so tall. I remember that petal-like mouth, those teeth, but mostly...I remember the crippling fear. I felt absolutely terrified. I couldn't move. There was even a moment when I thought of running away, but...I couldn't leave them there. Seeing someone go through something similar and being praised for being a hero...it makes me think. I used to be so ashamed for freezing in that moment. For even considering running away. But Éowyn...she was like me." There's awe in his voice and warmth, relief. "She had no idea what she was getting into. She froze. She didn't do everything perfectly and gracefully like Legolas or something, but when it mattered...she did what she had to."
He holds Eddie tighter and asks, almost shyly: "Will it offend you that I think she's my favorite character? Not Aragorn or Sam?"
Eddie just shakes his head and drops a kiss to Steve's hair. "Nah. She suits you well. And you're both amazing."
And if it becomes a silly endearment in their household, that Steve is sometimes called the Shieldmaiden of Hawkins? ("I'm not a maiden, Eddie!" "I'm not calling you a shieldboy or shieldbachelor, Steve!") Then Steve feels a hint of something that he thought he'd renounced, but now, for the first time he feels it's deserved - pride.

Just to tie in my two themes this month----
Additional notes, because poll options apparently limit their characters:
Frodo finds great peace in watching the tides rise and fall throughout each day. He attends all the ranger programs on birds and seashells and fills pages with sketches and poetry.
Sam meticulously selects postcards in the gift shop for each of his friends and spends a whole morning writing and addressing them. He also buys Junior Ranger hats for his kids and a variety of Appalachian jams for Rosie.
Park rangers launch a Missing Person search for Aragorn when they realize his car's been parked at Avalanche Creek for three days. The search runs for almost a week before he comes strolling out the opposite side of the park, supporting one of the SAR techs who twisted an ankle during the search.
Legolas is first drawn to Olympic for the towering, mossy temperate rainforests, but the ground goes out from under him when he steps onto Second Beach for the first time. He spends an entire day watching the light and tides shift on the sea stacks, and he leaves feeling both full and hollow, like a bell that's just been rung.
Mammoth is only Gimli's first stop on a cavern tour, followed by Jewel and Wind Caves and Carlsbad Caverns. Wind Cave is his favorite for the unusual formations. He makes an obnoxious tween boy cry in Carlsbad for breaking off a speleothem.
Boromir is on a tour of military parks. He asks so many questions to the intern working the info station at Fort Sumter the kid has to go find the park historian. His favorite site is Vicksburg because that place was buckwild, though he silently judges one of the reenactors for his clumsy handling of a black powder rifle.
Merry also makes stops in Jurassic and Dinosaur National Monuments. He watches every park video, takes selfies in front of all the fossil exhibits, and earns his Junior Ranger badge at each one. He buys a keychain for Pippin.
Pippin actually gets four citations, mostly for trying to stick his hands in mud pots. He doesn't mean anything by it---he's just so delighted and curious about the bizarre landscape. He winds up with several thermal burns and dumps a king's ransom in the donation box on his last day.
Gandalf gets dinged by rangers for not paying the $5 fee for Trunk Bay, but he acts senile until they eventually decide to drop it. He gets postcards from everyone and responds to none of them.
Faramir and Eowyn are traveling together and do many of the same hikes and rides, but they do have some different preferences off-trail. Eowyn drags Faramir to a rodeo and the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar in Jackson Hole, and he goads her into Ranger Shelton Johnson's living history programs on the Buffalo Soldiers in Yosemite.
Eomer is bike-packing on his sport cruiser motorcycle. He goes to Roosevelt south unit for the wild horse herds but ends up spending half a day watching a prairie dog town. He takes 400 photos of them, mostly blurry, and texts them to Eowyn.

some of you are clearly forgetting your history... your hobbitstory, if i may... merry brandybuck is THE most organised, efficient, put-together little guy you could ever hope to meet and he is a brave, fierce friend. in lotr he:
notices bilbo seems to have a magic ring and observes him suspiciously for years
puts together the conspirators (merry, pippin, sam, fatty) who gather information about frodo and help him escape the shire quietly
no seriously he does all the planning, logistics, admin - all of it. and this helps them leave as quickly and sneakily as they do
literally follows the nazgul in bree?????? anyone else would run for the hills but our guy is out here snooping on the ringwraiths??
it's merry who focuses on the "speak friend and enter" part of the writing on the doors of moria
feels so wretched at being left behind in rohan while his friends are in danger that he goes against direct orders and sneaks off to war with "dernhelm" (eowyn) even though it scares the hell out of him
STABS THE WITCH KING DESPITE BEING UNDER THE BLACK BREATH
and then literally KEEPS WALKING AROUND. HE SHOULD BE DEAD AT THIS POINT BUT HE'S STILL GOING ON
is one of the main leaders of the uprising against the scouring of the shire and plans the strategy. he himself kills the leader of the ruffians
becomes the master of buckland and is honoured by both the king of rohan and the king of gondor. literal king shit!!!

Yes, Fingon rescued Maedhros because of the strife between their families , yes, there are few mentions of them together in the rest of the Silmarillion, but...he braved Angband. For him! He braved hell, and brought him back, and was ready to kill him to bring him mercy and release.
Because if Fingon had went, killed Maedhros and returned empty handed, would the conflict not have escalated even further? Yet, he was ready to risk that, because Maedhros begged him.
(What was the political justification behind such a daring action? Did Morgoth send them constant reminders/proof that Maedhros was indeed alive? Was Maedhros so vital in keeping his people and his brothers in check - was he so beloved by his people that they would not strive for peace or recognise another king while the hope of him being alive remained? Were none of the Noldor in Fingolfin's host really comfortable with the idea of "usurping" his crown and be done with it? Like yes, I know that the Feanorians would have never, and if the Nolofinweans had even tried, war would have ensued - but what did Fingon *really* think rescuing Maedhros would accomplish? Had he faith that Maedhros would be reasonable enough, skilled enough, to solve the strife, instead of opposing Fingolfin? Was he sure that the Feanorians would have felt so indebted to him that they would put aside their strife? How much the political overlap with...love and hope?)
And Fingon did the impossible, and only Beren and Luthien ever entered Angband, and similarly, only Frodo and Sam braved Mordor.
He did it for his people, but what spurred him on was their ancient friendship, and hope, and the very obvious but significant fact that you do not leave someone you love to suffer in the hands of the enemy, no matter how unlikely the rescue is. Yet, only Fingon dared.
The Valiant indeed.

𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐧
✧ As one of the Dúnedain rangers who looked after the Shire, you had instantly gone to Frodo's side once Gandalf showed up. Although you didn't know the full details of the plan (they hadn't yet trusted you with the secrets of the ring) you agreed to escort them to Bree so they could meet with Gandalf there.
✧ Aragorn noticed you first when you entered The Prancing Pony, carefully herding the hobbits in and making sure that they didn't run off, or get into trouble.
✧ When you look around to try and spot Gandalf he begins to slip into the shadows out of habit, but stops himself and stays easily seen. Aragorn doesn’t know why he lets you see him, but the tension even slightly leaving your eyes seems to make it worth it. Even in the light, you both recognise each other as Dúnedain.
✧ After Aragorn takes Frodo to a separate room, he barely has time to begin his greetings before you swing open the door with the other hobbits and a sword to his neck demanding you release him.
✧ Normally he’d be intimidated, perhaps on guard with you, but even with a sword to his neck the first feeling he gets is admiration - it’s rare to catch him off guard like you have.
✧ The two of you work well together, even though you're slightly suspicious of him, and when Frodo decides to place his trust in the ranger you give it to him as well.
✧ While setting up the fake hobbits together there's some debate over who will keep watch and eventually both of you stay up together (sitting in a comfortable silence).
𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐬
✧ Even if Denethor hadn’t approved of Faramir going to Rivendell, he did allow you to accompany Boromir to the valley. (You had gone because Faramir asked you, saying your job - a ranger who often scouted Mordor - would be valuable, even if he didn’t know why).
✧ When you had finally arrived in Rivendell you didn’t immediately admire the scenery, instead focusing on finally being (truly) clean after over a hundred days of travel.
✧ Once you were happy with yourself you thought it only right to look at the beauty of Rivendell, wandering aimlessly.
✧ It was then, after taking the same turn for the third time, that an elf suddenly appeared with a pitying look and asked if you had ever been to Rivendell before.
✧ Legolas is delighted when you take him up on his offer to show you around (Mirkwood is not exactly the best place to roam) and takes great pleasure in showing you different places.
✧ At almost every turn he asks you which places you’d prefer to see, taking you on a rather haphazard tour (although he doesn’t seem phased by it).
✧ He doesn’t recognise your Gondorian accent at first, but once he does he’s eager to ask more about it and your opinions.
✧ Eventually, as the stars and moon begin to light your walk, you apologise and explain you must be up early in the morning for an important meeting.
✧ Realising you’ll also be at the Council of Elrond, Legolas wishes you a good night’s rest and that he will see you soon.
𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐨
✧ Gandalf, over the years, employed many people to subtly watch over the Shire - and you were one of them.
✧ Traditionally based in Bree, you had been honoured to be chosen by the grey wizard and kept a close eye on the Baggins family.
✧ Eventually, after being slightly careless the day before, Bilbo manages to find and confront you about your intentions (albeit aided by the one ring).
✧ After learning you're a friend of Gandalf, he quickly invites you in to talk about it over luncheon.
✧ Frodo is surprised when you suddenly appear with his uncle for food, but he accepts it.
✧ The two of you are quick to bond when you talk about your travels - even if most are only a few days away from the Shire.
✧ He's completely enamoured by you - and Bilbo eats quickly to excuse himself and let you two be alone.
✧ You reinforce his ideas of going on one of Bilbo’s grand adventures, and after luncheon is over Frodo asks you to stay so that you may talk some more.
✧ The two of you spend the rest of the day pouring over old maps as you tell him the facts you’ve learnt about those places from the wild, while he shares the facts that his beloved books tell him.
✧ When you realise the time you try to excuse yourself, but Bilbo insists you spend the night in a guest room.
𝐒𝐚𝐦
✧ Like most of the Shire, you were out in the summer festival - enjoying the field that had been cleared to make way for food, dancing, tents, hobbits sitting about, and more food.
✧ Predictably, your friends had dragged you into dancing, they wanted to as well but were too scared to go alone, and then had left you without partners you knew.
✧ The first few spins had been fun, but eventually you needed to take a break and actually enjoy what else the festival had to offer.
✧ As you stand close to the dancers, a hobbit with darker curly hair (the younger Baggins) comes up to.
✧ You ready yourself to say no to dancing, but instead he asks if you’ll dance with his friend.
✧ The words ‘no’ die in your mouth as you see the hobbit next to him, shy but looking on hopefully at the dancing before casting a glance to you.
✧ “Gladly.”
✧ To your pleasant surprise, he’s a decent dancer, and when you both run out of energy to go again Sam rushes to get you both food and seats.
✧ It’s a small gesture, in the scheme of things, but over the food he’s collected and the cheer in the air you can’t help thinking of just how sweet Samwise already is to you.
𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐲
✧ Being a hobbit from Bree meant you didn’t often travel to the Shire - it was a rather long distance after all - but it was always nice when you did.
✧ Like travelling to the harvest festival for when the crops started to become bountiful, and everything would be freshly picked and perfectly cooked. You could celebrate in Bree, but food based festivals are always better when done by hobbits.
✧ You’re stuck on what stall to eat from first, overwhelmed at all the options, when a young hobbit suddenly taps you on the shoulder and asks if you need help in choosing something.
✧ Deciding to trust the locals you say yes, and it’s rewarded by a large smile from the hobbit before Merry introduces himself then instantly begins to drag you to a further away stall - talking about all the different options, before trying to guess what flavour you’d like.
✧ He gets above five flavours in before stopping, and saying you should choose what you want - not what he thinks.
✧ When you decide, his eyes seem to light up even more as he tells you that’s his favourite too.
✧ The two of you spend the rest of the night together, and he eventually asks if you’re from Bree.
✧ You say yes but that you’re staying for a while, to which Merry immediately offers to show you around the Shire - offering a date for tomorrow.
𝐏𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧
✧ As one of Elrond’s advisors, you’re aware that something big is going to happen soon. Any elf in Rivendell can feel it, especially when you’re privy to whispers of information such as ‘Sauron’ and ‘the one ring’.
✧ What you aren’t expecting is for this ‘something’ to be in the form of hobbits, one brought by Arwen - and the other three to be brought by Aragorn.
✧ Knowing the Nazgul’s attack on them, you wait on the borders of Rivendell for Isildur’s heir and his company.
✧ When Pippin sees you, almost silhouetted by the falling sun, he believes for a second you might be an angel.
✧ Even when you move to where he can see you (and begin admonishing Aragorn in Elvish) he still can’t shake the feeling that someone like you is too good for him and the hobbits.
✧ He doesn’t realise he’s staring, or blushing, until you come in front of him and gently kneel to check his forehead, asking if he’s ok.
✧ It takes him a second to respond - which probably doesn’t give too much confidence - but you accept his answering, welcoming him to Rivendell.
✧ The place is beautiful, but when you leave them to inform Lord Elrond of their arrival he can’t help thinking the place is already not quite as good.
𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐫
✧ It was at times like this, when you’d been called away from the crucial stronghold of Osgiliath because of ‘important meetings’, that you wished the rangers didn’t have to listen to Boromir, Captain of the White Tower, and could instead listen to his younger brother, your actual commander.
✧ This thought was probably shared among a lot of the rangers, but you were the only one brave enough to say it, which is why you were currently in what reminded you suspiciously of a school’s detention room.
✧ Apparently this was a good deterrent, seeing as only you were in here, holding a small slip of paper that says ‘Disrespectful to the Captain of the White Tower’.
✧ The door opens, finally, and you’re just about to express your thanks to them for actually showing up when you realise who it is.
✧ Boromir, Captain of the White Tower, stares back at you just as you realise you’re going to have to tell this man what you did.
✧ Trying to master the art of vanishing from Middle Earth, you can feel yourself blushing when you hand him your write-up slip.
✧ There’s a second of silence before a small laugh escapes him, and he looks at you more directly before asking what you said.
✧ You’re honest about it, and to your surprise he asks you for clarification and follow-ups, actually listening to your suggestions.
✧ In the end, it’s a bell chiming that snaps you out of your discussions and when the two of you get up to leave he opens the door with a smile, wishing you a good day.
𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐫
✧ For the last three years, the Lord Steward had tried to find a betrothed for his eldest son, Boromir. For the last three years you had consistently refused to go. This year, however, your parents had finally put their foot down and made you attend the ceremony.
✧ It was a very small chance he’d choose you, and a (hopefully) even smaller chance the engagement would become anything.
✧ But on the chance it would, you decide to do what anyone would do, and get slightly drunk in a tavern to try and hook up with someone.
✧ With incredible wisdom, you had taken up a spot in a dark corner where literally no-one was approaching you.
✧ And then someone does.
✧ You’re shocked he hasn’t already found someone; not many people would turn down the man in front of you.
✧ In the tavern light his grey eyes seem to shine, his hair a gorgeous colour that reminds you of sweet caramel and looks incredibly soft.
✧ Moved, not entirely by the drink, you find yourself going over - saying a comment and trying to smile, laughing at his response.
✧ There’s a second of silence between the two of you and you realise how close you are.
✧ You close the gap, and the two of you are kissing - you’re going back against the wall and your hands reach out to pull him closer - then it stops.
✧ A muttered apology is all you get before he leaves.
✧ And in the morning you’re left with the vague memory of a kiss, a memory of a semi-familiar man, and a hangover.
𝐄𝐨𝐰𝐲𝐧
✧ As Aragorn’s younger sibling, you’re no stranger to people fawning over your brother. That does not mean, however, it doesn’t amuse you and you don’t tease him incredibly.
✧ You watch Aragorn leave the stables, having just enough time to congratulate him on his new horse, and his new admirer, before said admirer appears.
✧ Although you tease your brother you’re still good to the people who fall for him, and you give a respectful nod to the girl - Éowyn.
✧ She smiles back at you, before her eyes flicker between you and your brother. It’s a tale as old as time, and you sit up slightly straighter.
✧ What you don't expect, however, is for her to compare you in terms of spirit - how both of you seem elven, and noble.
✧ Normally people make a shallower comparison, or just go to you to confirm facts, and it’s refreshing and nice to hear that instead.
✧ You confirm your relation to him, before focusing your attention back on her. That her nature seems noble as well, and that it seems like her uncles.
✧ When she glows at the compliment you smile, and the next few minutes of small talk are pleasant before you’re pulled away.
𝐄𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫
✧ You first see Éomer while waiting for his sister to arrive, humming to yourself in the great wooden halls.
✧ To your credit you only jump a little when he appears out of no-where, and on his part he is most apologetic.
✧ From his perspective, he came because he heard the sound of your humming - better than the songs sung over festivals in this hall - and wishes to know from whom it came.
✧ He’s silent at first, scared to move in case he startles you too badly - and not wanting to be loud and disrupt the song.
✧ Hesitantly, he asks who you are - and if you are the friend his sister has spoken so highly of.
✧ When you confirm that is you, he says it’s an honour to meet you and he’s glad you’ve been such a good friend to his sister.
✧ There’s a pause again, and just when you’re about to speak Éowyn appears by your side and ready to go.
✧ As happy as you are to go with her, something in you is regretful you could not spend more time getting to know Éomer.
𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐝
✧ In jail for assaulting a counsellor, especially as a guard of Laketown, is not exactly how you expected your Friday shift to go. Still, when you stare at the girl next to you (Sigrid) you can’t find it in yourself to feel bad about doing what you did.
✧ You had simply seen Alfrid towering over her, her being clearly uncomfortable - and you had pulled him off when things got physical. It was bad luck Sigrid had punched him at the same time, landing you both in jail.
✧ The girl seems more apologetic around you being here than her actions, to be honest, and she keeps reassuring you that her dad will come soon to sort things out.
✧ On Bard’s part, the news that his daughter is in jail for punching a counsellor is not what he wanted to hear but he goes out immediately. He’s about to head off when Sigrid tells him about you, and of course Bard realises he needs to get you out as well.
✧ When a drop-dead gorgeous man appears outside your cell, your mind begins to debate the merits of flirting your way out before he introduces himself as Sigrid’s father.
✧ Once you get out he thanks you profusely, as well as apologising for his daughter, but you wave him off with a smile.
✧ Bard can barely believe someone with this much honour still exists in this place, and makes a small note to thank whatever’s out there for having you look after his daughter.
✧ Eventually, you manage to convince him to stop thanking you and to let you go home - although when the man gives you one more piece of sincere praise you can’t find yourself annoyed.
𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐢𝐥
✧ As you sit at a beautifully carved, uncomfortable desk you realise you’re not as nervous as you probably should be to meet the king.
✧ You’ve seen him before, of course, looking at him when all the elves of Mirkwood are out - or gossiping with the other single elves about what are decidedly fantasies. But you’ve never spoken.
✧ As a private tutor, in written work and fighting, you had jumped at the opportunity to mentor Prince Legolas.
✧ The door opens and you rise to your feet immediately, going into a deep bow.
✧ As Thranduil bids you to rise, you can feel his eyes sweeping over you and looking for any imperfections.
✧ Instead of cowering you meet his gaze, and you swear you see the ghost of a smile on his face before it becomes more serious.
✧ The interview, one of many, is surprisingly pleasant and you find it easy to talk to him.
✧ When you are made to leave, he watches you exit, thinking about saying something before thanking you for your performance and interest in the role.
✧ It’s a small gesture, but to be thanked by the king? It puts a bounce in your step for the rest of the day.
𝐓𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥
✧ As the tenth shot in as many minutes hits the target perfectly, you can’t help but wish to use your sword, and against something that isn’t a training dummy.
✧ Elves are known for being archers, and although you’re skilled with a bow it’s easier to stand out with exceptional sword-mastery than exceptional marksmanship.
✧ Then, a voice behind you asks if you want to spar together - an offer almost too good to be true.
✧ Turning around you vaguely recognise the elf in front of you, her hair is distinctive, and you ask if she too is trying to join the royal guard.
✧ Tauriel confirms it, and then the two of you get into position.
✧ There’s something incredibly satisfying about a good match-up and the two of you fight well together.
✧ You’re mostly evenly matched, and it takes a lot of effort to push on the offensive and get her closer to the wall.
✧ Eventually, she wins the first fight. But as you both stand there, catching your breath and smiling at each other, you bear no grudge.
✧ You only ask if she wants a re-match.
𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐫
✧ Anyone wanting to become a healer knows that the halls of the elves are the best places to go, if you wish to learn, so here you are. Three weeks travel deep into your route to Rivendell.
✧ Whilst riding you can’t help feeling something is off about the place - almost as if you’re being watched - but you chalk it up to elven magic.
✧ Then you see an elf, near the borders and picking some kind of flower. He has long, dark hair and you’re reminded just how ethereal the elves are compared to the race of men.
✧ And then all hell breaks loose.
✧ Just as you’re about to call out in greeting, a small band of orcs come out of the trees - you recognize the monster as what they are, instantly drawing your bow.
✧ Lindir sees the orcs approaching, quickly getting out his dagger while cursing his luck.
✧ As an orcish blade pierces him, blood instantly spilling from his side, he begins to wonder if this could be the end before an arrow suddenly goes though the orcs head.
✧ There’s barely time to react as a horse with a rider gallops past him, holding their hand out and pulling him up before wheeling back around to finish off the last orc.
✧ You barely have time to celebrate your victory when you feel the elf beside you slump into unconsciousness, clearly from the bloodloss.
✧ You wish you could say you entered Rivendell in a better way, rather than with a highly wounded elf at your side, but enter Rivendell like that you do.
𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐫
✧ Haldir had been alerted of people in the woods of Lothlórien by the Lady as soon as they had arrived, and had found them quickly.
✧ He was rather disappointed in how easily his troops went undetected, not even by Isildur’s heir or the elves from a distance.
✧ You had been uneasy as soon as you walked into the woods, convinced something was watching you. As an elf you of course knew of Galadriel’s powers, but whatever you could sense was more imminent.
✧ Then, with the quietest of sounds, you hear bows being drawn and arrows knocked into place.
✧ On instinct you draw your bow at the same time as your prince does, except you're quick enough to fire the arrow.
✧ The second the arrow leaves your bow you recognise the elves, and instantly you attempt to bat the arrow down again - wincing as you knock it just enough off target to miss the lead elf.
✧ As Haldir feels the arrow whistle past him, his first thought is that of admiration - the intensity in your eyes to protect this band of people.
✧ Opening your mouth to apologise, he holds a hand to stop you and congratulate you on your shot before turning to the more serious matters of the Fellowship.
𝐄𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐧
✧ As one of only a handful of elves still in their first century, it’s no wonder that you were eventually introduced to the Sons of Elrond.
✧ It had been in one of Rivendell’s great libraries, and although both looked interested to meet you there was one you were more interested in meeting.
✧ Elrohir had been the one to make introductions first, declaring their names before politely asking yours.
✧ Elladan on the other hand hung back slightly. You were beautiful, a full elf, and something about that made him slightly intimidated.
✧ It wasn’t until you had all sat down and you were looking around the library he realised just how compatible you were.
✧ “What books would you recommend?”
✧ The question is simple, but Elladan immediately latches onto it and begins to ask questions - what genre are you looking for, would you like something sad? Would you like a story or a historical account - and if so from which time period?
✧ He speaks fast enough that his elvish begins to flow together, but you keep up with him just as well.
✧ In almost no time the two of you are off the chairs, and he eagerly leads you to the section you're looking for.
✧ Your eyes widen as you gaze upon the piles of stacked books, neatly organised and in shelves.
✧ From the sidelines Elladan watches eagerly, and for the first time since his brother he feels he has finally found a kindred spirit.
𝐄𝐥𝐫𝐨𝐡𝐢𝐫
✧ When Elrohir rides into the Battle of Pelennor Fields with the army of the dead he can practically feel the relief of the soldiers, and wonders if there are many greater feelings in life that this.
✧ Almost two hours later, as the fighting dies down and he begins to look for the wounded he decides there probably aren’t.
✧ He doesn’t realise someone is calling, or at least calling specifically him, until the person yells for the ‘half-elf with the horse’
✧ Elrohir has no idea who the person is, but the fact they don’t refer to him as an elf already makes him love them.
✧ Going over, he sees you crouching beside a clearly wounded soldier - one of their legs incredibly damaged.
✧ Looking up you ask if he can transport them to the Houses of Healing, as not to aggrevate the wound further.
✧ He instantly agrees before hesitantly asking where they are.
✧ Upon seeing the slight despair in your eyes, he holds out the reins of his horse to you.
✧ “Fly swift with him. I’ll keep searching for wounded and sending more up. Return him to me when he’s no longer needed.”
✧ You can hardly believe your luck - but it isn’t for you to question, instead thanking him on behalf of Gondor before going as quickly as you can to the Houses.
Hope you enjoyed! Here are the details about requests, and again thanks for reading!

Paper Hearts Part 8
Here we go! The end! This is not the last foray into this little 'verse however! There will be a sequel called Sweet Surrender. It will chronicle their first date, their first time (so it will be mature), and senior prom. Look for that starting next week.
Still not sure about WIP Wednesday tomorrow, but I'll keep you posted.
Steve gets to see one of the recipients of his pinks hearts, Eddie spirals a bit, and true love prevails. As it should.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7
****
Steve was finally able to witness one of his anonymous hearts being received on Tuesday. Last week all the hearts had been shoved into people’s lockers, accidentally following the lead of Steve’s admirers. He strongly suspected Chrissy was the reason for that.
But in the three days leading up to Valentine’s day, the hearts were being passed out in classes. Something teachers strongly objected to but students loved.
He was in his geometry class, trying not scratch out his own eyeballs from the sheer monotony of all the numbers starting to blur together, when Chrissy and another junior cheerleader came into the class, but as it was merely quiet student time and that he wasn’t actively teaching, there was nothing the teacher could do but silently stew.
They started listing off the names of the students who had gotten pink hearts alphabetically. Steve wasn’t surprised when he got a small stack again. Most of them were from Frodo, Merry, Pippin, and Sam. The first name was weird, but others seemed fairly normal. And of course, one from Kas.
He looked around and saw that some kids were snickering because they were getting to the later half of the alphabet and Joni Quincy. She was little fatter then her classmates but in no way overweight. But that didn’t stop people from mocking her. The fact that she braces didn’t help either.
“Joni Quincy!” Chrissy said, clearly.
The class got so quiet you could hear her sharp gasp.
“Are you sure it’s for me?” she asked shyly, like she was expecting to be pranked or tricked.
Chrissy shook her bright ponytail. She came over to the girl’s desk and handed her the heart. It was only the one, but Steve could tell it made all the difference. She smiled brightly and laughed.
“That’s sweet!” Nicole said over her shoulder. “Anonymous. But it’s still cool someone thought of you.”
The rest of the class went well until afterwards when one of the members of the football team grabbed out of her hand.
“You shouldn’t send notes yourself,” he sneered, holding it above her head so she couldn’t get back.
“I didn’t!” she cried.
Steve stood up and swiped it out of the dude’s hand. “Leave her alone. The point of the friendship hearts are for stuff like this. Knock it off.” He turned and glared at the teacher.
The teacher stared back at Steve for a moment and then sighed.
“Mr. Olsen, please refrain harassing your fellow students.”
The kid just shrugged and stormed out of the class. Steve handed it back to her.
“It is a sweet message,” he said with a smile.
-Joni
Braces may suck right now,
But the smile you’ll get in end
Will be worth it, so don’t hide your smile
A Former Braces Wearer
She returned his smile widely, showing off the braces. “It is. It was nice to get a heart.”
Steve just nodded and then gathered up his stuff to go. He could feel the warm glow in his chest expand as he watched her talk with one of the other girls in the class about the heart.
It felt good.
****
All week long, Eddie watched Steve get the pink hearts and brighten every time. They had a couple of classes together and he always lit up when the hearts arrived.
Sometimes, he would catch him looking disappointed, but by the end of the day that kilowatt smile would be back on.
He couldn’t figure out the cause. There never seemed to be a rhyme or reason for the change in mood.
So he asked one of the Hellfire Club members that had classes with Steve to see if she noticed a difference.
“Maybe it’s your special hearts,” she said with a grin.
Eddie rolled his eyes. “No, it’s not. Come on, at least take this seriously. Oh! Maybe he’s getting them from Nancy!”
“Why would he even want pink hearts from her?”Janice said cocking her head the side in confusion. “Like he was madly in love with the girl and it’s pretty damn clear that whatever went on that week in November, it really crushed the guy. I’d think he’d be disappointed getting one from her rather than not getting one from her until it appears later in the day.”
He frowned. But that had to be it. There was no way that Steve was interested in his hearts. Maybe he just liked the color change and that’s what it was. Because there was no way he was interested in the heart giver unless he thought that it was a girl’s name. Kas could be short for Kassie after all.
Janice grabbed his shoulders and shook him. “You are spiraling and it’s a little freaky, stop.”
Eddie head snapped, he had forgotten she was even there. He turned on his most charming smile. “You’re talking to the head freak, baby. Can’t get freakier than me.”
She rolled her eyes, not charmed in the slightest. “I know what you are, Edward Munson. Don’t you forget it.”
He kissed her cheek. “Never.”
As he walked off, a locker slammed and Janice jumped. She turned around to see Steve Harrington standing up from his locker.
He hadn’t been there when Eddie came up to her, she knew for a fact. Eddie wasn’t stupid enough to talk about someone when they were literally feet away. So he must have come later. Which meant the question was ‘how much did he hear?’
She really hoped the answer was none of it.
****
Steve had to go out and get a different book for all the all the hearts he had received. He still kept the ones from ‘Kas’ in his wallet. Those were his favorite.
He never was good at hiding his emotions, despite what his father had tried to drill into him over and over again. So when he would get pink hearts every period, he would be disappointed when the Kas hearts weren’t there.
Which was rude. He enjoyed all the hearts he got. He loved every little silly message, even from the ones Dustin said were clearly from a metal band.
He had fun taking the hearts with names he knew weren’t in the year book to Dustin, because he would explain the reference to him.
By Wednesday night, Steve had added three more Kas hearts to his wallet. All sweeter than the last.
He knew he was developing a crush on whoever this was.
Then Dustin finally figured it out the day before Valentine’s day.
“It’s probably a dude,” Dustin said with a grimace.
Steve tilted his head in confusion. “What do you mean?”
Dustin got out a large hard back book and flipped through it. He stopped on a page about half way through and handed it to him.
Steve sat on the kid’s bed with a thump. He must have read a dozen times before he looked up at him.
“But they’re friendship hearts,” he said. “Why would it matter if it’s a guy or not?”
Dustin sat on the bed next time him and gently took the book back. “Because you’re acting like you do when you have a crush.”
Steve blinked at him a moment. He frowned in thought. “You think so?”
He nodded.
“Oh.”
He thought about all the times he wished it was Eddie who was Kas and then it hit him. He wanted it to be Eddie, not because he had a crush on Kas, but because he had a crush on Eddie.
“And if I said I didn’t mind it?” he asked softly. “That it might be a boy?”
“Are you gay?” Dustin asked, rearing his head back in confusion.
Steve shook his head. “Both. I like both.”
Dustin frowned appreciatively. “Okay then.”
“Okay?” Steve wasn’t sure he was hearing this. He had always imagined that there would be more screaming involved.
“Okay,” he repeated. “You have a big heart, it makes sense that you’d like both.”
Steve gave him the biggest hug. “Thanks, Dusty.”
“Oh!” he said, pulling away after a moment. “I found out about that Dorks and Dweebs club you were talking about!”
Dustin glared at him. “It stands for Dungeons and Dragons. Something I’ve told you over and over again.”
Steve ruffled Dustin’s hair. “The club is called The Hellfire Club and they do accept freshmen.”
“They named themselves after that club in The X-men?” Dustin squealed. “That’s so cool.”
Steve blinked for a moment. Yeah, that made more sense then a bunch of high schoolers naming their club after a Satanic and gay club from the 1800s. Hey, he read. He had found a book on history of clubs in England at the local library, and thought they meant soccer. They had not.
Dustin bombarded him with questions about the club and Steve answered him the best he could. After all the kid figured out his Kas so it was the least he could for him.
****
Valentine’s came and Steve was the recipient of three red hearts. But as he searched through the pink hearts there was no Kas. The end of school came and he still hadn’t looked at the red hearts yet.
Eddie came up to his locker as he was shoving his books into it. “Hey, Stevie, why the long face?”
Steve sighed and closed the locker, turning around to sit on the floor. “I’ve been getting these pink hearts from a specific person all week and all last week and I didn’t get one today. So I guess I’m a little bummed by it.”
Eddie dropped his bag and sat down next to Steve. He drew his knees up and draped his arms over them, linking his thumbs together.
“Maybe they sent a red heart instead?” he said, bumping their shoulders together.
Steve shrugged. “They’ve been all pink hearts up until now, so...”
“What makes this one so special then?”
“I have a friend that is really big into D&D,” Steve murmured.
Eddie gasped and held his hands to his chest. “You, Steven Harrington, has friend who like’s D&D?”
“He’s more like a little brother to me,” he explained with a shrug, “he’ll start high school next year. But anyways, he’s been telling me all the references from pink hearts from the ones that wanted to be anonymous.”
“And there’s a D&D reference in there?” Eddie asked, looking over at him. He knew there was, but maybe Steve had been getting hearts from someone else in Hellfire or another secret D&D nerd he knew nothing about.
Steve nodded and pulled out his wallet. “It’s the same person that left the hearts on my door over the weekend.” He pulled out all ten hearts to Eddie’s awe.
“You kept all of them?” he whispered as he gently took them from him. Eddie fanned them out like a deck of cards and then tilted his head. “They’re out of order.”
Steve frowned as he watched Eddie successfully put them in order and a pattern emerged. The colors had shifted darker and darker with each day. Until the one he got yesterday was a really dark pink.
He looked down at the red hearts that he had set on the floor to pull out his wallet. He picked them up only to be snatched from by Eddie.
“Nicole Hawkins?” he said dismissively and tossed it over his shoulder. “She’s too boring.”
Steve huffed out a laugh.
“Lindsey Addams?” he said with a snort, tossing it after Nicole’s red heart. “Has a boyfriend and is only looking for someone she can use to make him jealous.”
Steve smiled. That one he knew. He was down on all the gossip, he just didn’t know Eddie was too.
He handed the final red heart to Steve and smiled. “There you go.”
Steve took the heart and his smile matched Eddie’s when it showed it was from Kas.
“You know,” he said softly. “I wanted them to be from you. He told me about Kas the Betrayer and how whoever was sending them was probably a guy. But I wanted them to be from you since I told you my secret.”
Eddie gulped. He hadn’t been expecting that. He had been shoring himself up that Steve would think it was a girl and he would walk away with a broken heart when he found out it wasn’t. But staring at this gentle boy with a big heart who just wanted to do something nice for the girls that wouldn’t get even so much as a single pink heart, he knew. He knew that there would be no walking away for either of them.
“They’re from me,” he admitted. “I fell so hard for you, Stevie. And I hoped that by gradually changing the colors of the hearts you see that I was gearing up to tell you I loved you.”
Steve blushed and ducked his head. “Sorry I missed that.”
Eddie bumped their shoulders together again. “It’s all right, I got to see the cutest pout when you thought I hadn’t given you a heart today.”
“You’ll let me make it up to you?” Steve asked, raising his head.
“Take me out on a date and shower me with that patented Harrington charm,” Eddie said with a grin. “And we’ll call it even.”
Steve laughed. “Looks like I have plans for Valentine’s day after all.”
Eddie stood up and held his hand out to him. Steve took it and Eddie helped him to his feet.
“Sure do, big boy,” he said with a grin.
Steve laughed and let Eddie lead him out to the parking lot. It was nearly empty but that was perfect.
Eddie walked Steve to his car.
“I’ll pick you up at five, okay?” Steve whispered.
Eddie pursed his lips and nodded. He walked away, but as Steve got his in car, Eddie suddenly leapt into the air and whooped!
Steve shook his head and smiled fondly. He had started the month feeling sorry for himself and now he had a date with a sweet boy on Valentine’s day.
Life was already looking up.

Shall we talk about how Sam is always Frodo’s first thought? I mean, Frodo cares for him immensely. When he wakes up in Rivendell in the first book practically the first thing he asks Gandalf is “where is Sam?” only then he worries about the others. When he is about to leave the company he lists the only people in the company he really trusts and the first one is Sam. Moreover he struggles to leave the fellowship especially because of Sam since he can not imagine leaving him. Then when Sam manages to get on the boat Frodo laughs. He laughs, for the first time since Bilbo left and he is so glad that in the end the fate had brought them back together to go to Mordor. We should talk more often about how immensely they both care for each other and love each other.

Tolkien Webcomic Recommendations!
I know people here follow me for my webcomic adaptation of the Hobbit. So I thought I’d share recommendations for my favorite similar Tolkien comic projects, in case people are looking for other Tolkien webcomics to read! :D
My recs will be mainly Tolkien comics that adapt portions of the original books, just with their own unique spin on them.
1. Sam and Frodo Comics, by Molly Knox Ostertag
Tumblr media
Ostertag is probably the most well known artist on this list! She is a professional graphic novel artist who does gorgeous adaptations of scenes from Lord of the Rings, read through a queer lens, in order to tell the story of Frodo and Sam’s love for each other. This is mixed in with comics based on her own Tolkien-inspired writing. I’m focusing on comics in this rec list, but I’ll add that Ostertag has also written a lot of engaging prose fanfic with illustrations.
“Sam and Frodo Comics”
“In All the Ways There Were” (illustrated prose fanfic adaptation)
2.Lord of the Rings Book Canon Comics, by @yambits
Tumblr media
Yambits does beautiful adaptations of scenes from the original lord of the rings books that do not appear in the New Line Cinema films, hewing very close to the original prose, and focusing on the love between Frodo and Sam. I especially love the way they depict the magical temptation of the Ring.
“Ithilien,” an adaptation of Frodo & Sam’s encounter with Faramir
“In the Lair,” an adaptation of Sam & Frodo journeying together into Shelob’s lair
“The Tower,” an adaptation of Sam journeying to the tower of Cirith Ungol to rescue Frodo
“Escape from the Tower,” an adaptation of Sam and Frodo leaving Cirith Ungol to journey into Mordor
The Ringbearers, a comic about the One Ring reflecting on the resilience of hobbits
3. Sansukh the Webcomic, by @fishfingersandscarves and @determamfidd
Tumblr media
Sansukh is a well-loved Bagginshield fanfiction that is now getting a webcomic adaptation co-created by the original author. The premise is that after his death, Thorin Oakenshield is not able to speak to his surviving loved ones, but can influence them in subtle ways; he uses this power to help inspire Gimli to join the Fellowship of the Ring and protect Bilbo’s nephew. From there the fic becomes an “adaptation” of Lord of the Rings, retelling the trilogy through its new lens until the very end.
This is a bit of an outlier on this list because it’s an adaptation of a fanfic that’s an adaptation of the books, rather than an adaptation of the book. However, if you’re into the Hobbit fandom/Bagginshield, I recommend checking it out! It’s also one of the few comics on this list that is currently updating. :)
@sansukhcomic (tumblr blog)
Chapter one
Original fanfic the comic is based on
4. The Ainulindalae from the Silmarillion, by Evan Palmer Comics
Tumblr media Tumblr media
People who know me, know that I’m *usually* not a big Silmarillion person. However!
Comic artist Evan Palmer did a gorgeous adaptation of the Ainulindale. This section of the Silmarillion describes the elven myth of creation, the ancient years where the world was created through a divine magical song. Palmer’s Fantasia-inspired expressive watercolor art really helps bring this section of the story to life!
Full comic
5.The 1989 Hobbit Comic adaptation, by Chuck Dixon and David T Wenzel
Tumblr media
This is another outlier because it’s a physical comic book, rather than a webcomic- and unlike all the other recs this is an “official” adaptation produced by an actual publishing company rather than a zero-budget work made by an indie creator working alone/with a partner. I’m unsure if it can be found online.
It’s an adaptation of the Hobbit that hews extremely close to the original book, making practically no changes at all. It has very gorgeous watercolor illustrations! ( It’s been a big inspiration for me on my own little comic adaptation of the hobbit shsjd.) This is also the only comic on the list I’ll offer critique of, because it’s the only one made by an actual company with a budget— so I’ll say that because of page limits imposed on the comic many of the pages can feel overcrowded with prose, and emotional beats/comedy beats sometimes aren’t given the time to properly land. At times it feels less like a comic adaptation and more like reading the original prose of the Hobbit accompanied by some very beautiful illustrations. But if that’s what you’re into it’s great!
It’s a fun well-illustrated read that I recommend. I’m not sure where people can find copies; I stumbled across it in my library, so they’re definitely still around.
If anyone has additional tolkien comic recommendations, especially ones that can be found easily online, feel free to add them to this list! : D

it’s been so many years and i still think about frodo and sam. in every little moment, in the face of such hardship, they show so much care for one another. sam packing a bit of seasoning so that they might have a good meal every now and then. how sam waded into deep water, knowing he would drown, only to have the chance at following frodo for a little bit longer. that frodo would have sam remembered as just as much of a hero — if not more so — as him or any member of the fellowship. the way frodo says sam’s name, like a sigh, a benediction, or a kiss, even. the whisper of a smile on frodo's face whenever sam says something sweet or kind. that they slept curled up next to one another every night under the stars. how they look at each other with such undisguised fondness. that in some of their darkest moments, when frodo suffocates under the grip of the ring, all they can do is hold each other. how sam begged frodo to hang on because he couldn’t bear to leave him. that he cradled him in his arms and pleaded don't go where i can't follow. and then, when they walked into fire and shadow together and sat shoulder to shoulder at the end of all things. that they lived, and though they were changed, they still held on just as tightly to one another until it was time to let go — if only for a little while.

Tolkien is admittedly pretty good at sparing his couples from permanent separation. Look at Frodo & Sam, Beren & Lúthien, Aragorn & Arwen, the many Elf pairings, the many human pairings, etc. They each get to spend eternity together, be it in Valinor for the Elves who are eventually re-embodied, or beyond Arda wherever mortals go after death.
But then there’s Aegnor, who will spend literally the entire duration of the world’s existence in the Halls of Mandos, loving and mourning someone he only knew for a few comparatively short decades because his own lineage was a traitor to him, his lack of mortal ancestry preventing him from ever having the choice to be with her forever.
And also there’s Bilbo, who spent 80+ years loving and mourning someone who he only actually knew for 7 months, and who he must inevitably leave behind in the Halls of Mandos when he departs the circles of the world.
