honest question, who is Sean Chiplock and how is he annoying sometimes? your post is the first time i’ve heard of him and i make a conscious effort not to use or interact with twitter at all so i have no idea what’s going on

Voice-Actor. First got into the public consciousness for his work as Revali from Breath of the Wild, but other popular roles he's done include: some random pretty boy from Genshin Impact (I know it's a prominent character, I just don't care enough about Genshin to look it up), Purple Yam Cookie in Cookie Run: Kingdom, and most recently Kinger in The Amazing Digital Circus.

Really, when I say 'he's annoying sometimes' it's that he can sometimes get a tad sanctimonious when he's talking about social issues. But, other than that, he's fine.

The reason people are trying to turn on him now (and by 'people' I mean 'maladjusted children who need their internet-privileges revoked') is because he dared to not agree with kids attacking people over fictional ships.

However, because every fandom puritan knows that, deep down, their accusations don't mean shite to anyone with more than two braincells to rub together, they've started to lump in other heavier accusations to give credence to 'he supports icky ships, so he's a terrible person, weh'.

Such claims include:

'He's racist!!' For making jokes about Chinese knockoff products. Which, you know, people have been making all over (particularly when it comes to the current state of artist alleys/halls at conventions giving tables to people reselling shoddily-made junk from AliExpress/Wish)

Also, in case anyone tries to bring up that tweet where he supposedly said the N-word: how many NewGrounds lurkers pulled that same shit when they were in their late teens-20s? As in, the same age-range he was when that tweet was made?

And 'He defended a groomer!!' When, in reality, when it came out that another Genshin Impact VA was a legitimate predator, Chiplock actual condemned the VA in question while telling fans 'remember, it's perfectly fine to separate a character from the person who voices them in situations like this'.

Meanwhile, a certain someone who voices a certain pastel-unicorn in the cookie game went on a tirade about how the Japanese BL industry and those who support it should be 'burnt to the ground' and, as of today, no action has been taken/no one is calling for their cancellation. So, more people are finding out about Sean Chiplock having tried to groom a minor. His victim also spoke out against him yesterday (at the time of making this post). Sean has not denied any of these claims when attempting to talk to the victim.

Am I surprised about Sean being a weirdo? No, not in the slightest. He has always been weird about minors and unprofessional around them, and it's frustrating that people constantly kept giving him passes because he's "trying to get a reaction out of people."

In the spirit of the internet remembering Sean Chiplock is fucking disgusting because more evidence has come out I'd like to give my stance on this as someone who has seen so much nonsense coming from the TikTok community.

Sean Chiplock is a disgusting man and frankly should be fired. It's been known for years that he's been disgusting towards minors and minor characters(the Sayu clip says it all). It's actually so infuriating that this man has kept and even gained jobs while all of this is known about him. It's insane that he gets to keep his job while all of this evidence is available at any given time.

Now for the specific reason I made this post. This fandom has disgusted the fuck out of me at least on TikTok with how it's responded to these allegations. The amount of Diluc simps I've seen more concerned that people are spreading awareness by using pictures of Diluc to catch attention is so infuriating. The amount of "separate voice from character" and "my husband would never"'s I've seen are so baffling. The fact that these people care more about fucking pixels getting a little bit of slander because the voice behind them is a sick individual is disgusting to me. Instead of using that energy to make statements of support for victims or call out a fucking pedophile on his sickening actions it's being wasted on standing up for the reputation of some pixels. I seriously hope those people get a grip because that's so annoying to watch.

Now my next point I'd like to make is very simple. Can we please give him the same energy the old Tighnari voice actor got? Like the fact that Sean has been around longer doing and saying weird things longer but is still around because we keep letting these situations get swept under the rug is not good. These two men have done the exact same things but one has gotten off scot-free and it's very much not okay. large things start small large painful moments in history can start from a build up of small pains, and feeling specific ideas as related in small ways is not… inherently wrong part of what i was drawing upon was my own memories of people i knew giving this sort of feeling, of manipulative narrative, and becoming alt-right and into neonazi ideas i don't know if it will mean anything to you, but i am not white, so i take these sort of feelings (of removing personhood) seriously i dont mean to say that to try to use my identity as a shield, but to try to explain where i was coming from and my interest in understanding alt-right and holocaust things, racist indoctrination, and even stuff like the mentalities behind colonialism

He isn't much of a talker. He lets his accomplishments, his failures, and his actions do the work for him. At least most of the time.

Though Davis is the significantly more popular one of the brothers, Lance has quite the following as well….. Not that he seems to notice that, at least.

Lance, in all honesty, is hard on himself.

He can't seem to see the version of him everyone else sees, in himself. He looks into a mirror and sees nothing of what the people around him see.

With the way he grew up, the way he viewed himself was something he was accustomed to over the years. The smallest sign of praise would've sent him over the edge, but shortly after he'd start looking for ways to earn more.

Praise kept him going, just not in the same way it fueled Davis. They viewed the world differently (at least at first glance), and so, they viewed their pride differently.

In the case of mercy, Lance is about as aggressive as his brother. Just not as vindictive, much to the relief of many of the people he deals with, funnily enough.

Lance is considerably dependent on the acknowledgment of his parents, and especially Davis. He knows that his brother cares about him, but at times, his pride can get in the way of that care — often leading to moments where it feels like Davis doesn't even know who his own brother is.

Lance would do anything, anything, for his family. Getting hurt is just part of that process, and that's a risk he's more than willing to take for them.

3 male characters I love:

Kaname Date, I'm usually not a fan of the pervy character in things, but Date works so well because 1) He thinks all these things and makes comments but he never actually does stuff to people to make them uncomfortable, and 2) It's not his defining characteristic, he's so much more than horny. Like he's a great detective, he cares about his peers and wants to keep them safe, he's a great father figure even if he doesn't really know what he's doing, he's just such a great character. Also Greg Chun's performance is 👌👌👌

Kuruto Ryuki, *slaps roof* this boy can fit so many mental illnesses. I love this boy but goddamn he is a filthy liar whenever he says "I'm fine". But his story was so engaging and you really feel for him when it clicks into place. Like I've been giving the game a second playthrough with the knowledge of the twist and wow so many scenes hit different. Also, this is the first time I've heard Stephen Fu in a big role (The only other time I've heard him is Douma from KNY and he's only appeared a couple of times so far) and wow, I really wanna hear more of his work because his performance was incredible.

Pewter, I dunno he dresses like a fruity Pokémon villain and he's got an awkward yet charming personality. Not to mention, his story in the right path of the first game made me feel so bad for him... Like damn, just let this man be happy please, he deserves it. Also, I know I'm a broken record, but Sean Chiplock's performance, his delivery on the weirder lines are so funny (Yes I am thinking about the chairs line, how did you know?)

Aiba, I fucking adore Aiba. She's the best. I love how she's the straight man to Date's shenanigans IRL but when they're in somniums, Date is the straight man to her shenanigans, I love her excitement whenever she sees bugs, I love how she knows Date so well she can manipulate him into being a better fighter, I love her lil jelly hamster form, I love Erika Harlacher's performance, I just really, really love Aiba.

Mizuki Date, I don't even know where to start with Mizuki... She's honestly one of the best written child characters I've seen in a game. And this poor girl has been through so much in both games but her route in the first game had me sobbing buckets. Not to mention, Corrina Boegetter's performance, they really knocked it out of the park for every single facet of Mizuki's personality. Also they genuinly managed to sound like a twelve year old, that's impressive all by itself.

Shizue Kuranushi, Listen... I am not immune to hot women voiced by Allegra Clark, okay? I'm only human. But seriously... Her design, her personality, her dedication to her co-workers, her office and the funny interactions that come from all the stuff she just doesn't throw away, and the fact that's somehow simultaneously a girlboss and a cringefail milf???? Impressive. She has the range, darling.

Also, quick shout-out to Tama, I adore her and her crazy laugh so much

Kaname Date/Mizuki Date, I mean... Chances are if you've been following me for a while you know that I am just a huge sucker for family dynamics. And the dynamic of adopted father/daughter viewing each other as their real family but being too embarrassed to admit is something I adore.

Kuruto Ryuki/Tama, I love these two so much. I love how IRL Ryuki is just so done with all of Tama's dirty jokes and then in somniums Tama is so done with all of Ryuki's weird suggestions and skits. But also it's their concern for each other, you can tell they're partners. I feel like the best example of this is when Tama insists that Ryuki goes to the hospital no matter how much he protests, like... She just wants him to be safe and healthy...

Ota Matsushita/Mayumi Matsushita, god the Ota route destroyed me when I played through it but seeing them as a family getting through their issues was so sweet. I won't go into detail because it's personal but a few months ago I went offline for a while because of a family emergency and it's because of similar situation to Mayumi. So yeah, playing that hit hard.

Some of the somniums can have some obscure logic but like... Not in the way that you proud when you figure it out, but more angry in a "how the hell was I supposed to figure that out?" Kinda way.

I really hate how Ryuki and Tama just got kinda shoved to the side halfway through Nirvana Initiative. Like they stole the show for a lot of their scenes and then once the Mizuki Route started they barely appeared and when they did, they weren't really shown in the best light, especially Ryuki. Granted there's a plot reason for this but still... It's disappointing. If there's an AI3, I hope they get more screentime.

I feel like Tearer really didn't get enough screentime in Nirvana Initiative, especially when unmasked. Like c'mon this is the main antagonist, give us more of him! Especially considering his entire backstory, that's a lot of really interesting stuff to build off of! Also just... I wanted to hear more of Billy Kametz' villainous performance. It was rare to hear him in those roles but he was so damn good in them.

Many voice actors are being cancelled for joking pedo jokes, being "pedo", joking "racist" jokes, supporting Israel or etc. And yes, I'm talking about Zachary Gordon and Sean Chiplock. Why Twitter always tries to cancel someone? And now I'm very afraid, that I'll be cancelled in Twitter too just for nothing or for stupid reasons.

ANYWAY GENSHIN ENGLISH VOICE ACTORS APPRECIATION POST!!!

i have so much to say about the way keith voices zhongli, actually. first of all, he's obviously incredibly talented n i think he's been fantastic in every role i've heard him in (which is many. the man is everywhere. as he should be) but there is something so special about how he plays zhongli. zhongli is already a very comforting presence n character to me in general but the tone of his voice n his inflections suit him so well that i am mesmerized sometimes.

sean chiplock........lord almighty. i knew him from YUUKI MISHIMA PERSONA FIVE n i did not recognize him until i checked the casting. absolutely floored. the RANGE on him to go between roles like that!! same sort of deal with the comfort; diluc is also very comforting for me n there's something so special about the way he speaks his lines. it's beautiful.

Mr. Love: Queen Is Not Allowed To Make That Choice

On Twitter I've been RTing a lot about the situation re: the firing of Jonah Scott (a voice actor) by Mr. Love: Queen's Choice's dev/localizer because of his Tweeting "Taiwan is a country."

Short summary of the issue:

Jonah Scott tweeted "Taiwan is a country" on June 3rd as part of the backlash against John Cena

almost immediately some Chinese fans screencapped and complained to Elex/Paper Games

in less than 24 hours from Jonah Scott's Tweet, on June 4th, the official MLQC Twitter and Facebook accounts announced that he was not only being fired but that all his content would be scrubbed from the game, meaning that Victor (one of 4 main love interests) would be voiceless

about 12 hours after that, Joe Zieja and Sean Chiplock, who voiced two of the other three main characters, announced that they would not voice their characters in protest at Scott's firing, because Scott did not violate anything in his contract

The official accounts of MLQC deleted their Tweet about firing Jonah Scott. However they did nothing else until June 7th, where they began Tweeting again, including the following: "Dear producers, Mr Love has just completed the update. Step into Loveland and check what's new in Mr Love! Don't forget to claim the maintenance compensation in your mailbox (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ New Chap 33-34 [Tracks of Light] is open now!!!! Use your power to open the curtain of the future. Please note that the voices for Victor, Gavin and Kiro are only available in text. New voice materials will be added in the future. From then until now, the MLQC official accounts have continued to act like nothing unusual is happening even though 3/4ths of the love interests are now silent.

I uninstalled the game as soon as I learned about Jonah Scott's firing, in solidarity, much like Joe Zieja and Sean Chiplock.

Some people are saying that the Chinese government requires MLQC to do this (debatable, and in my opinion far more likely that Paper Games is motivated primarily by Chinese public opinion which can be very high on this issue). Regardless of whether it does or not, I am unwilling to cooperate with this behaviour. This is not just a matter of free speech but of labour rights. Moreover, the product itself that they are selling me had most of its value from the amazing voice performances of these actors. The unprofessional way that they were dispensed with is grotesque.

I won't be deleting any of my MLQC fics, but I will not be making anymore content for the fandom except for finishing For Your Own and the Greater Good which is a novel about overthrowing a despot. Make of that what you will.

Also if anyone wants to interact with this post to whine about how "you're going to kill the server uwu", fuck all the way off. If PG and Elex can't play by international cultural norms, then they can't expect to get money from international customers. Too bad for them. Stop simping for a company, it's embarrassing.
