I‘m aware that im saying this about a character who already has more than enough content out there, but…jason would benefit so much from something that isnt part of an event or a mini thats set in the past (both inconsequent). Like there are 5838228 events and 3 issue stories with jasons dilemma in the foreground and even if they‘re well done and interesting they never matter. RHATO fucking sucked ass, but there are so many little things from that time that still influence jason stories. That ugly suit, his "i had a falling out with bruce :(" status quo and his relationship to his adoptive family.

Every writer wants to be the one to write theee jason story where he solves all of his issues, reconciles with bruce etc and they try to do that in elsewhere story #733737 or mini #172727 and it never sticks (considering what some of have written i say hallelujah).

What im trying to say is he needs an on going with an at least semi capable writer who doesnt try to turn him into dick grayson or the punisher. It has to start off with jason being a villain and i personally dgaf if it stays that way or he turns into a anti-hero etc. What i do care about is: it has to happen on panel, i need to see the developement. I dont mind him having fights with bruce and co, i dont ever see them cutting ties but rhato #25 cant be the status quo anymore…also no oblivious jason who has never considered the consequences of his actions. If he changes his mind about his ideology and methods it should be bc of convincing reasons (note: i dont ever see him not killing at all)

Honestly winick wrote a lot of that into uth and lost days (as in the starting point of my delulu RH on going) and if a writer could start from there without the oedipus complex id be grateful xoxo (id kill for jason to have talia as some kind of mentor to him without her getting the blame for his actions, imo they need interactions outside of lost days and uth #25 so people can finally stfu about that awful part in lost days). Theyd need to add characters who connect him back to the normal world like dana or sth, bring back rena and eddie for all i care. Him not being a person outside of the red hood holds him back (one of my least favorite prts of tfz was jasons identity being public).

He should fuck with bruces plans and all, he should be a nuisance (think that prince of gotham arc [another bs story but i think it couldve been interesting if you changed 85% of it] where hes mocking bruce)

A lot of these things have been attempted by scott lobdell but that man was a shit writer so…(also the n52 premise was absolute shit which was also lobdells fault).

No, yeah, you are 100% right about this. I'll try not to word vomit as I usually do lol. Emphasis on try.

In Oracle Angelus is good at a more techy IT sorta approach to fixing things. On top of drawing one of his other favorite things to do is make mods for games he likes to play or games friends or family are playing and want things not already available and will happily help if someone broke a game by incorrectly installing something or wrong placement. Very into jailbreaking phones. He loves to reverse engineer programs. Trevor is currently teaching him all he knows about cars. Also, also, also! Since he's a werewolf he's got "close ties to nature" so like all werewolves he kinda has this...sixth sense about plant life so he or any werewolf for that matter can totally help nurture your plants back to health.

On the other hand given the year and place Jelani was born in yeah he can absolutely fix most anything that's broken in and around the house. His dad and uncle are engineers so whenever he and Loke visit their parents back home he likes to help his dad and uncle with personal or work related projects. His aunt's a vet, back in ye olden times she was the one that tended to cattle, pets and other animals and Jelani was always right there assisting (huge animal lover and nerd. Always said that if he wasn't doing what he does he'd be a zoologist or biologist). When he visits his parents he'll make time to visit his aunt and help her like he used to as a kid. So yeah, he can tend to wounds, illnesses and stuff.

They do go to and rely on each other for things the other knows and can help. Even if one doesn't know what the other is doing they love to watch and help and in Angelus's case ask a million questions.

In Fallout Jelani can take apart, clean, oil and put back together ANY weapon you put in front of him. Any. He can fix any too and has even gone so far as to Frankenstein several weapons to max out their usefulness and deadliness. Gungnir, his anti-material sniper rifle, is a prime example of it. The damn thing is so highly customized that it's almost impossible for anyone else to properly use it. Loke taught him a bit about maintaining and fixing armor, Jela's got the basics down but for the more complicated stuff he goes to Loke. Jela's also been known to modify turrets, traps and other security as well as fixing them whenever they get damaged after attacks. Can fix computers, hack them and even fixed that old pip-boy Loke found.

Given his upbringing and lifestyle Angelus doesn't really know much of anything about fixing or maintaining anything. But he's been learning from Jelani how to clean and maintain weapons. Weapons kind of elude him and he's not too good with guns yet but he's proven to be a fast learner. He also helps Jelani whenever he's about fixing stuff. Angelus quickly learned that Jelani likes to keep himself busy as a form of distraction to avoid shit so he's always on the lookout for dirty, discarded or broken weapons and brings them to him and it's great for both helping Jela and for bonding.

In Skyrim Angelus was pretty much waited on hand and foot. He never had to do much of anything. Why when you have a bunch of servants doing anything and everything? However, his move to Skyrim when he ran away was a shock to the system though he still carries that mentality of "why fix it when you can just buy it again?" His time with Loke, Jelani and Uthorim have turned him around. Mostly. He found that Jelani will at times resurrect plants and flowers that have died in the garden because at times Loke can be very busy with patients. He kinda took a liking to gardening and in a way it feels like he's repaying Lo, Jela and Uth back by keeping the garden plentiful and healthy which is where Lo gets his ingredients and has a bit of a "shrine" for his parents and it helps for when Jela's not home. Since Angelus is the one that stays at home he's stopped being a diva and helps out around the manor keeping it clean and organized.

Jela on the other hand will help him clean but can fix stuff around the manor so they team up to keep things in order as Lo and Uth are the busiest of the four of them. Jela can maintain weapons though not really fix 'em. Being a mercenary and a member of Lady Valerica's court means things get damaged from stabs or slashes and he's learned to fix things which Angelus likes to watch him do and prompts him to ask a million questions.

let's talk about s02e08: the sins of the father.

let's talk about how this could've been a pivotal point in arthur's character arc, if the writers of this show weren't fucking cowards.

let's talk about how it was completely unfair on merlin's part to lie to arthur, because arthur deserved the truth goddamnit and it wasn't merlin's place to take that away from him.

of course, this is later justified by merlin saying that he knows arthur and that he wouldn't be able to live with himself or the guilt of it if he had gone ahead and killed his father. and of course, like every other potentially life-changing event, all of this is never mentioned by the show again.

magic is damned even further in arthur's eyes, uth*r threatens everyone who knows the truth into silence, vaguely implies that he's totally chill with his son fucking his manservant as long as they're all of the same anti-magic ideals, the episode ends in all smiles.

but whew! at least arthur's been protected from the harsher sides of reality, once again! god forbid this character gains any sense of self-awareness!

my point is, if all of this was to keep arthur from killing daddykins bc it would weigh on his delicate conscience, to preserve the Goodness Of His Character As A Man And King, why the fuck should merlin have to lie to him about it?

consider, instead of:

Morgause is lying! She's an enchantress. She tricked you. That was not your mother you saw. That was an illusion. Everything...everything your mother said to you...those were Morgause's words.

we could have had something along the lines of:

What your father did was wrong, Arthur, but is this man the man you want to be? The king you want to be? Would you be able to ascend the throne even as your father's blood glistens, still fresh, on your sword? Would you be able to live with yourself if you made this decision?

if he kills his darling father anyway, honestly, Good For Him. he has every right to. uth*r went through with a dangerous spell despite knowing the risks, then commited genocide in its name whilst lying about his reason as to why.

uth*r has commited genocide.

he is not a good king or father either, as proven several times throughout the show. he deserves no mercy, no pity.

but the choice should've been arthur's to make. this scene should've been a testament to arthur's character.

if he kills daddy dearest anyways but then feels Super Guilty about it later, we know he wouldn't have made a good king. you can't head a country when you're prone to making drastic decisions without thinking them through bc you were throwing pissy fit at the time.

so if he still goes through with it, he must not been shown to regret it.

but say he does let uth*r live. maybe for whatever love remains for the man who raised him. but he renounces him as his king, as his father.

arthur starts publicly going against his policies and decisions. bc if uth*r could have been so wrong about this alone, what else is he wrong about? arthur refuses to carry out his orders if he believes it’s against the interests of the people.

raising taxes? how about No. oh, he can’t knight commoners? just Try and stop him. he learns to trust in the counsel of merlin, gwen, morgana, people who we know interact direct directly with the citizens of camelot and want what’s best for them; builds his own circle. he routinely breaks out prisoners from the dungeons he believe have been punished unjustly.

especially the people who use magic. he openly speaks out against his father and his persecution of it.

uth*r can try and stop him, alright. but there is a clear rift in the kingdom now, two distinct factions. those who believe in the king that arthur will be, and those who believe their loyalty is still to the current monarch.

and look at these people, from the execution scene from s01e01:

look at their faces (and also hnfvbdjh colin morgan and his obscene fucking cheekbones jesus christ). they don't seem to appreciate uth*r saving them from the evils of magic much. how many of them have lost their friends and family to his crusade? how many of them remember a time when magic was still allowed in camelot and the kingdom flourished?

these people will stand with arthur pendragon.

yeah. the ones who still believe in uth*r’s authority are few and far in between. and they know where they can shove it.

arthur learns. about magic, about its history, the old religion. merlin finally reveals his magic to him, so does morgana. he goes to the druids and he falls to his knees and he begs for their forgiveness. morgause begrudgingly allies herself with him, seeing his determination to right his father’s mistakes. he still struggles with the little boy within him who just wants his only parent’s approval, sometimes. but he is slowly but surely becoming his own man.

arthur becomes king long before he takes the throne. uth*r is forced to watch, a meaningless figurehead, as everything he worked to achieve comes undone at the hands of his own son. no attempts to make the viewers sympathise with him. he is angry and miserable and wasting away and there is nothing he can do about it; and it’s exactly what he fucking deserves.

and merlin? merlin finally realises kilgharrah’s word isn’t gospel. morgana is redeemed before she ever loses herself. but they must learn to trust each other again, bc merlin left her to face her fear and self-loathing alone when she needed someone more than ever (you might be cute, merlin, but not enough to get away with THAT). he finds himself taking young sorcerers who don’t know how to control their power under his wing (gilli, daegal, oh god the endless opportunities here), including mordred. MORGAUSE TEACHING MERLIN AND MORGANA MAGIC.

he and arthur are equals now, partners in destiny; the world is theirs.

and for the love of god, give me villains whose entire personality and motivations don’t boil down to I Hate Uth*r Pendragon And Also His Son.

give me kings who are afraid of camelot’s growing power, give me bandits and slave traders who realise they have no place in arthur and merlin’s albion. give me uth*r apologists scrambling to maintain their position in court, hell, give me anarchist organisations if that’s what it takes to spice things up a little.

give me the golden age of albion we were promised.

of course, all of this requires characters acknowledging and growing from their mistakes, and making their actions have lasting consequences — so i suppose it really is a bit too much to ask of the writers.

do you think if written well jason's relationship with bruce + the batfamily can be rekindled? & would he ever be apart of the family again?

Highly depends on which Jason you’re referring.

Short answer: if based on the, say, "softer, anti-hero" (or total fanon) Jason and written well, then yeah, everything’s possible. Lots of fanfics made it work coherently with their Jason.

Imo, Jason rekindling with the batfam implies him accepting to stop killing. The batfam I know is not gonna budge on that. There would be tremendous efforts from both sides, yeah, and some members of the Fam are gonna play a bigger role in taking Jason back in (I’m thinking Bruce ofc, Dick, Barbara and Cass. Yes, Cass. She’s the ultimate redemption believer guys), but the biggest changes? That’s Jason’s move. Think of a Zuko-like redemption arc in atla.

Whether your Jason is actually willing and able to change, and whether that’s gonna feel coherent with the character— that depends on which part of canon (and/or fanon) you’re basing yourself on.

Long answer:

Winick’s UtH!Jason? That’s a solid no, I’d say. Winick said himself he meant to bring Jason back as a villain— and he did it quite marvelously. That Jason made it obvious that he’s too far gone, for lack of better words, and that he’s got 0 interest in rekindling with the batfam— even the members he’s on less-bad terms with. Most* post-crisis canon takes were based more or less solidly on Winick’s. From Batman&Robin!Jason to TT#29 (ugh) under other authors, to Winick!Jason’s other interventions in Green Arrow or the Outsiders... that boy’s isolation from the batfam is self-inflicted & far from regretted. He’ll die (again lol) on the hill he’s on, meaning no change of heart, meaning no redemption possible.

* There are some shaky exceptions even in late post-crisis though. Namely, Nicieza!Jason, that you can see during the last bits of Robin (1993). In which we see the Jason that goes out of his way to partner up with Tim; and in which Tim eventually frees Jason out of prison (although he makes it clear that he did it for Bruce). That episode was used a lot in fandom as grounds for a Tim&Jay dynamic — I’m not taking a swing at fandom here, we all use the bits of canon we like — but I don’t think it’s that good a reference for a "redeem Jason arc":

A) Nicieza’s Tim made his contempt of Jason quite obvious all throughout, meaning it doesn’t establish Tim as an "in" into the batfam;

B) with reason, since Nicieza wrote Jason as a complete dumbass Nicieza’s Jason doesn’t seem particularly interested in changing his ways in the long term, so again it’s a no-change-of-heart no-reintegrating-the-batfam situation

C) He’s faaaar from the only author who did that, but Nicieza’s portrayal of Jason is based off nothing & actively contradicts Winick’s? Like, Jason is one of the most inconsistent character in comic book history (and that’s saying something), but there’s a reason Winick more or less became the reference for resurrection!Jason even if you don’t like the idea of a villain Jay (not my cup of tea initially) and that’s,,, Winick actually writes well. Feel free to disagree, but most post-crisis takes that wildly differed from Winick just weren’t good to me.

After that we have Battle for the Cowl!Jason, which is. Bad. But also very, unnuanced, total villainy. And there’s also Countdown!Jason that’s a bit on the softer side if I remember correctly? But that was such a mess I didn’t bother with more than a few issues.

Reboot!Jason, especially through Lobdell’s writing, truly began to establish Red-Hood-Jason more on the anti-hero, redeemable side. You might want to twick some things if that’s your reference given that Lobdell’s writing is often dodgy imo, but the intent is totally different from late postcrisis, anti-villain!Jason era. In Reboot, Jason even accepts to stop killing for a time before "relapsing".

Finally, there’s always Robin!Jason. Not the flashbacks written during post-crisis that further crystallized the retcons to his personality; the actual pre-crisis and early post-crisis Jason, the "original product", we’ll say. That’s, I think, the most solid reference if you care to write a "batfam-acceptable" Jason. Pre-Starlin!Jason has very little to do with Red Hood as we know it, and even Starlin!Jason is redeemable— much as I don’t like Starlin’s writing, his Jason was still a kid, and even his supposed kill happens in a specific, arguably forgivable context. Mix that Jason with some compatible more recent canon takes, and you’ve got part of the work done.

And, y’know. You’ve got fanon. Easier than canon’s mess, and I’m saying this as a canon-lover.

TLDR go wild anon, anything’s possible as long as the writer cares about writing something coherent— and if they do, they’ll select the tools for that, canon tidbits included. If you want Jason back into the batfam, there are ways to make it work.

     Kangaroo Poet Karol Hans Jewinski passed away early in 2007 near his home in Jerusalem, at the age of 100.  He was still full of vigour, and had the physical appearance of a normal man in his late fifties.  Indeed, Karol fully expected to live at least 120 years, and would have, had he not become the innocent victim of a suicide bomber while shopping near his home.  Hans, as he preferred to be called, was a follower of Gjrg who, eight centuries ago, lived to the astounding age of 145, repeatedly proclaiming that everybody should expect to live at least 120 years.  Gjrg’s Ten Rules for Living a Century have been handed down by word of mouth from generation to generation, and 52 of his descendants have been documented to have lived at least 100 years, with another 40 probably doing so as well, but without proper supporting documentation. 

     As a young boy in rural Poland, Hans was allowed to adopt an abandoned and sick wolf cub.  The Jewinski farm was in the neighbourhood of Yvan Pavlov’s laboratory, and when the young lad consulted Pavlov about care for the wolf, he obtained his first job – cleaning out Pavlov’s dog kennels.  Often he did not receive payment for this work, because Pavlov was chronically broke until two decades later when his “science” was adopted by official Communism, and the Reds financed a little empire for him.  Hans became a life-long dog lover, and was always accompanied by a German Shepherd.

     When Hans’ father died suddenly, the lad was given into custody of an orthodox uncle in St. Petersburg.  This uncle, a German Jew, was a rabbi who made Hans fully acquainted with the Jewish faith (not taught to him earlier by his non-practicing father).  Hans received his bar mitzvah in the same week as the February Revolution. 

      In the civil war which followed the second [October] revolution, the tween-ager became a combatant on the White Russian side.  Even though Hans had experienced tsarist and White Russian anti-Semitism first hand, he fought on the tsarist side because he believed that all lawful authority was established by God, and obedience to authority was obedience to God.  When the royalists lost the civil war due to American intervention on the Communist side (Henry Ford et al), Hans escaped through Afghanistan into India, where he added English to his language repertoire.  [Hans was fluent in Polish, German, English, French, Greek and Yiddish.]  After being homeless and unemployed for three years, the teen-ager took on a job as an able seaman.  But he soon discovered that life on the water was not for him, and he abandoned ship at the first opportunity when in port at Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Taking brief jobs as a farmhand, or whatever he could get, he worked his way westwards across Canada.  In 1924, at the age of 18, he took on a civilian job caring for dogs in training for police K-9 duty, and started night school in Kingston, Ontario in order to obtain his high school diploma.  Upon graduation, he joined the Belleville, Ontario police department and was a cop for 37 years [except for 4 years in the air force during WWII, 13 months of that in a German  concentration camp after being shot down], retiring in 1963 on full pension at the age of 57.  He moved to Toronto and began his second career as a full-time poet, later becoming a founding member of the Kangaroo City Poets’ Collective.    He was about three decades senior to the average age of the poets in the collective, and was frequently consulted by the younger poets for advice on all aspects of life, as well as on questions of poetry.

        The Kangaroo City Poets’ Collective is a permanent organization, and when one of the member-poets passes on, his/her place is taken by someone elected from the membership of an auxiliary organization:  Kangaroo Poets – The Next Generation.  In this particular case, the Karol Hans Jewinski Chair is now occupied by Felll Wood.  Felll lives in Kokomo, Indiana.  She was introduced to Kangaroo City by Kangaroo Poet Rabin Duff, her high school English teacher in Peru, Indiana.  Through him, she was first published in South of Tuk in 2003.  Since 2007, she is the official custodian of the Karol Hans Jewinski Collection of the Kangaroo City Archives, and makes the selections in Hans’ name in the Nebiru Crossing bookstore, in keeping with the spirit and interests of Hans.
