here’s something that surprised me on my all systems red reread: secunit sits down like halfway through the book! page 104, murderbot sits on one of the hopper’s benches.

and the first time i read this book i paid that line no mind! it’s just sitting down. i didn’t have the context to be like :O secunits don’t do that. secunits aren’t supposed to sit while on duty!

and now i’m thinking about the crew, who also have no idea what this means. and about mensah, who just minutes ago told it that she sees it as a person who’s trying to help (this is the first time its insides “go melty!”) and i simply do not think it is a coincidence that murderbot sits down next to its humans for the first time probably ever right after being told by a human for the first time probably ever that they see it as a person.

and it’s so satisfying on a narrative and rereading level, right, because the first time you read the book you’re with the crew—you have no idea what this means. but then you read it again, knowing more about secunits, and then the full emotional weight of that one line hits. because now you have context!

anyway this line was such a lovely example of why the murderbot diaries in particular is such a good reread. the context makes everything hit afresh the second time around, just as hard if not harder than the first!

important question: does murderbot (the murderbot diaries) wear socks?

we know socks exist in murderbot world (it describes human living spaces as smelling like dirty socks).

we know that mb's feet are inorganic and don't look like human feet or augmented human feet.

when mb gets new clothes, which it does several times throughout the series, it never mentions socks (at least not to my knowledge, and I have these books practically memorized at this point). the most we get is that some shoes are described as "soft".

when in armor, mb mentions its "suitskin", which seems to be an all-over bodysuit sort of deal that could cover feet as well, thus negating the need for socks. for most of the series, though, mb is not in armor and not wearing suitskin.

considerations/potential points

mb might hate the smell and/or human connotations of socks enough to go sockless

mb mentions its shoes being soft bc it doesn't need to wear socks with them

suitskin = no socks for secunits, but mb got some post-All Systems Red to when it had to start wearing human shoes

maybe human socks don't work with secunit feet, or aren't necessary for them (although shoes work, so i feel like socks would work too)

if mb mentions getting shoes, perhaps it can be assumed that it's also buying socks, and just didn't mention it bc it doesn't deem them important.

Six Sentence Sunday

It's the first Six Sentence Sunday of 2025 (even though I'm posting this on Monday, shhh, the executive dysfunction kicked in last night as I was typing this post!)! Thanks for the tags @artsyunderstudy @nausikaaa, @martsonmars, @bookish-bogwitch and @mooncello, love seeing what you're all working on.

I haven't written anything new yet for either of my WIPs, but I thought I'd share a little something from both.

First off, The Trails We Blaze. I'm hoping to crack back on with this WIP in earnest in February, once I finish off my three month PaWriCo challenge with ASR. The last few days at work all I've been able to think about is the later plot points of Trails and I'm so excited to get back into this world.

I think this snippet is new, but apologies if not. This is Baz POV, way more than six sentences, and I've redacted one character name for spoilers!

The bedroom door slams shut and I slowly turn to face [redacted] and Fiona, both of whom are glaring at me and blocking my path out of the room. I cock an eyebrow and it sets [redacted] off. “What the bloody hell d’you think you’re playing at?” “Good morning to you too, [redacted].” “You think you can just waltz in here—” “You’re going to answer some questions,” I say, my tone brooking no argument. “Like hell I am.” “Leave it, Baz,” Fiona snaps, standing at [redacted]’s side, hands on hips and a scowl on her face. “Tell me everything I want to know, and I’ll leave.” [redacted] scoffs. “That simple, is it?” I nod. “It is.” “You jumped up little shit.” “Flattery will get you everywhere.” I perch on the edge of the desk, leaning back on it and playing with one of the figurines,

Now, onto the gremlins! I've been deep into ASR rewrites since November, and while I don't think I'll hit my target of a full rewrite by the end of the month or 100k (whichever comes first), I'm still plugging away at it.

In my last post I mentioned the change up in tense and how that's really helped, and I think working on Trails for the last couple of years (my God, it's been 2 years since I started working on that fic 🤯) has been a game changer for me.

Action has always been something I struggle with, but everyone has been leaving such lovely comments on the action scenes within Trails that it's given me a little more confidence when it comes to ASR. ASR is HEAVILY action reliant, and I still don't know why I thought this would be a good idea 😂🤦🏽‍♀️

That being said, read on for a snippet with Lauren being extra stabby.

I slip into another group of scientists who are frantically racing to the opposite side of the lab. No one notices as I slip the already knotted fabric over my head and tighten it. With my face hidden I shuck the lab coat and flick up the hood of my dark coat. Immediately the scientists are reeling away from me, shouting warnings to everyone close to them. They don’t get far. Throwing knives embed themselves in the lower spines of two, my sai plunges through the back of one man’s ribcage and out the other side, and as I’m pulling it from his limp body I sense someone coming up on my left side. The mercenary lunges with his combat knife, the blade whistling past my waist and stomach in a gutting motion; I’m now to the side of him, his momentum keeping him travelling forward as I angle my sai to penetrate his throat. His warm blood gushes down the blade and slicks my hand around the grip, the weight of his dead body threatening to rip the weapon from my hand. The whole thing happens so quickly it’s like the rest of the lab enters slow motion. I watch the light leave his eyes as he crashes to the floor, blood splattering around his head. Then the screams begin in earnest.

Will I ever stop talking about the dargah sequence?

The answer is NO. It was so beautifully shot and it spoke so much about their equation without giving away anything. I loved how Arnav and Khushi were so unaware of each other, because, of course, shuruwat thi. And Arziyan as the background score made so much sense and added this very important poignant touch to the entire sequence. Their story was completely fated, and this was the gateway.

The purity of this frame speaks volumes!

There was also one particular scene that really portrayed the inner psyche of Arnav Singh Raizaada, otherwise an unapologetic atheist and disbeliever of any higher power other than himself. His disbelief was perfectly portrayed in the sequence where he was heading towards to dargah, with a stoic expression and his oblivious disregard for the poor. We see him dodging the peacock feathers, and even the crowd around him. But then, he enters the dargah with flowers in his hands and most importantly,

He bows down before the tomb.

This one frame gave away the deeper insight of Arnav, for the first time. Arnav, who is sensitive, respectful and surprisingly, considerate. Not the stern, arrogant, and no nonsense Arnav Singh Raizaada that we were familiar with.

Update / Announcement!

Finals are coming up, and all of my final projects need some attention, so I may have to disappear for a few weeks. Don't worry—I am not dead! I am just locking TF in so I can graduate and GET OUTTA HERE!

For those of you A Siren's Requiem fans, I am halfway done drawing the next chapter, so I hope to return with that in hand. I know that it's been a WHILE since I updated it, as my focus has been on other work and commissions, but I would really like to continue this story to the end, even if it takes me so long. I love seeing the improvement my art sees every single chapter, and I think I have such a fun story to tell, and I want to see it through! Thank you for being patient with me you all are so lovely <3

I would just like to take a moment to draw your attention to how much my art has improved since the first chapter.

It has always been a little dream of mine to create a comic to help me improve my art and just share a story while watching my art journey along the way. ...and it has NOT dissappointed Just take a look at these two similar shots from chapter 1 and from the chapter that will be going up this Sunday:

While I do wish I could be sharing and drawing this story faster, I am so proud that I have managed to get 3 whole chapters out with this much improvement all while taking a full time's job worth of college credits. I'm just so excited to keep sharing this and maybe even getting quicker with this as I am nearing my graduation from college. I have so many fun ideas, art, projects, and stories to share and I haven't even been fully released into the wild. Just you all wait, I've been nerfed this whole time, I'm about to pull a Goku and take off my weights once I graduate and I'll become unstoppable~

So just a huge thank you to all of you for sticking with me in this niche little corner of the world of mine. You all inspire me to keep doing what I do and I only wish to extend that back to each and every one of you <3
