im not a huge traditional a/b/o writer so I don't have an entire fic idea for this but my brain keeps getting stuck on the idea of unpresented steve volunteering to take care of an orphaned baby during the quarantine, since there's too many kids and not enough adult omegas

alpha eddie, technically released but tentatively on temporary house arrest, ends up at the harrington house. with nothing much to do, eddie steps in as co parent and moral support for steve, helping the frazzled beta adjust to the reality of parenthood

and one day steve wakes up as an omega. no presentation heat, no desperate need to get bred, even though his new tits ache and leak. a little pain and his period eventually comes, sure, but it's not anywhere approaching typical. eddie watches the baby as steve goes to the fed doctors in a flurry, worried he's, like, dying or something--

stifling a smile, the doctor tells steve that his body accepted that he already had a pup and a mate, and decided no presentation heat was needed. otherwise he's perfectly healthy, and his heats should come back when he's done breastfeeding like any other omega mother's.

steve leaves, embarrassed and horny, having no idea how he's going to tell eddie that steve's hormones have decided he's the father of steve's kids, or why a medical explanation has him so turned on he can barely see straight

my last few longposts have been quite negative so i'm going to make one about something super indulgent:

easy to love you by charly bliss is a huddy song.

specifically from cuddy's pov, but that's often a given when it comes to what i deem a huddy song.

setting the tone, in my mind and in my lyrical analysis, this is help me/now what? era huddy. this is fresh huddy.

i'm mostly lyrically focused when i talk about a song fitting a character/ship, but i'd like to factor in the instrumentation for this one; it's just vocals and guitar. stripped down. vulnerable.

my first highlight comes in the very first verse:

He loved me so good, I couldn't help but cry I couldn't sleep all night, that's something I used to strain my eyes to see a way to the end of an aisle I saw nothing

i used to strain my eyes to see a way to the end of an aisle. as is illustrated time and time again in the show, cuddy is someone who views romance as something practically unobtainable for herself. as she says as early as who's your daddy?: "i'm not looking for a date, i'm tired of looking."

then in season six, with lucas, she tries to convince the world, and herself, that she has finally found it. she gets engaged to the guy! but it's all a falsehood. she doesn't love him, no, never did.

in both ways, she used to strain her eyes to see a way to the end of an aisle and saw nothing.

yet with house, we go to the pre-chorus

back and forth is an answer, too. that back and forth being her, incredibly, incredibly strange relationship with house. one that has been will-they-won't-they since. well, since the 80s, really!

instead of the typical, stable relationship she was seeking, trying to see as the answer, with lucas, perhaps, her relationship with house is an answer, too.

there's miles of open water back to you. water is always flowing, ever-changing. cuddy knows that a relationship with house will never be something that is ever fully stable or dependable. but water is also open, not enclosed, not limited. it is the freedom, the choice, yet also the inevitability. all this change being the nature of the relationship, yet also "back to you" as in, despite all of that change, it's always him. always been him.

It's so easy to love you I never believed I could trust something bigger than me

the chorus is easy, this is so cuddy! she's always been independent. always striving for the top. she's the dean of medicine. she doesn't put her trust into anyone, that trust is put into her.

but she puts it into house. when she's vulnerable with him in ways she will not, cannot be with anyone else, time and time again through the series, but also in the very moment she confesses to him.

trust in something bigger than her could also be having trust that this relationship will work; something that we are told explicitly that she is worried about in help me: "i just need to know if you and i can work."

she's putting her trust in both him and the situation as a whole to let them work out. to let them be together.

verse two is my favourite, it's what inspired me to make this.

for the first half, i think it's quite obvious what i'm using this part to refer to; them finally hooking up.

but what i'm more interested in is the second; if i'd settled for less when i craved reassuring. this is another lucas callback for me. that, canonically, was her settling for less. less than what she truly wanted. less than what she knew she wanted.

when i craved reassuring. reassuring that she's doing the right thing, getting with the right guy. reassuring that she had stability. she craved this, as said in known unknowns: "i need a guy i can count on every single day. that's never been house."

made the world so small, nobody could hurt me. i take this in a more overall approach than the last line. referring to cuddy's general inability to let people in. to be vulnerable. if you never let anyone in, you can't get hurt. which is a house philosophy, but also often applies to cuddy herself. the thing with cuddy, though, is that she cannot stand the isolation that comes with it. rock meet hard place.

but it can also apply to the way that she shuts house out during season six. she pushes him away. she pretty much flees from the scene at some points. house is the, metaphorical, world. if she makes him "small" through avoidance and placating hatred, that gnawing feeling of yearning won't hurt her. the knowledge that he is who she is supposed to be with won't hurt her.

and then the outro, oh the outro. really makes it for me:

i don't wanna be stable. THAT'S IT!!!! SHE SAID THE LINE!!!!!! EVERYONE GO HOME!!!!!!!

i don't wanna be stable, i wanna be brave. she doesn't want to keep up appearances, to settle for that relationship with lucas. despite the stability it promises, despite that, on paper, he's the "right guy". she wants to be brave. to go for what she wants. for who she wants. who she has known she wants. who she knows is the right guy for her. she's finally doing it.

and the end, it's easy to love you. because it is. it comes so naturally.

help me: "i love you. i wish i didn't but i can't help it." & now what?: "you are always gonna be the most incredible man i have ever known."
