Strahd handing Sergei the Ba'al Verzi dagger like a gift before taking it back and stabbing him with it has the same energy as the time my mom asked about my wedding ring and I used her sincerity against her in a petty little trickster prank.

So, here's what happened.

My partner and I picked out a ring, which he used to propose, and then I got him a ring for our wedding. I only ever had the one ring (no, not that one); none of this two-part wedding set nonsense.

My mom did not know this, and asked about it.

Seeing an opportunity for a brand of mischief I'd learned from my dad, I handed my ring over for Mom to inspect, saying, "This is my engagement ring..."

When she had looked it over some, I took it back, looked down at it briefly, and then handed it to her again, exactly as before, saying, "...and this is my wedding ring."

An odd look of confusion and disappointment came over her when she realized it, and--the difference between myself and Strahd being this--I immediately felt terrible for doing it, despite having thought I was clever right up until that point and having earned a chuckle from my dad, who knew what was up. It would have been a better trick on literally anyone else; my mom was an easy target and that just made it mean.

Oh my god. I usually try not to complain about critiques on my fiction, but this one dude I've been dealing with has just been so fucking obnoxious. First of all, he started critiquing the story on the fourth chapter, even though I specifically said in the critique guidance that I wasn't interested in drive-by critiques by people who hadn't started at the beginning. I gave him a pass since the first three chapters were "locked" since they already had the maximum number of critiques, so if he wanted to waste his time trying to critique a story he didn't understand that was his issue.

But then he went on to critique four chapters, repeatedly saying he didn't understand character motivations that were explicitly explained in the first three chapters. Eventually, he said he was bowing out because the story wasn't moving forward and was boring him.

But the kicker? He literally, explicitly told me he wrote a 5,000 word story inspired by my idea. And he wanted to know what I thought.

Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me.

I feel like this man is trying to punk me. Holy shit. What a nice way to spend my Saturday morning.

Most english orthographic reforms fail because they're trying to make the language better when they should be making it worse. In pursuit of that idea, starting in fall 2024 we're adding six new letters to make reading harder.

1. Reverse P

Completing the b-d-p rotational cycle and causing confusing with g and q (the hook on the q is now mandatory).

2. Lower i

Uppercase is a lowercase i and lowercase is an even lower i.

3. Left bracket

For it's hard work over the years, [ is being promoted to the alphabet proper. Lower case is a reverse h. Fuck right bracket.

4. Long M

Just like a regular M but two of the legs keep going. Long M is a vowel in all cases that Y isn't.

5. Reverse X

Like X but in reverse. To tell the difference we're adding these little curls to X, so regular X now looks like this

6. Reverse F

Uppercase is a reverse F, lowercase is an upside down v. Fuck you is why.
