Sherlock Preferences - How You Meet
Warning: not proofread and Irene’s is slightly NSFW.
Molly Hooper:
You met Molly at the lab. Earlier that day, Sherlock stopped by your home inviting you to work on a case and to be a stand in for John who was out of town. During the case, Sherlock took you to the lab to examine specimens from the crime scene. Molly caught your eye. You found her awkward mannerisms adorable.
Your first meeting was slightly awkward, since it was apparent to you she fancied Sherlock. You took a chance and hit off a conversation with her anyway, and asked for her number.
She was flattered to receive attention from someone so attractive. At the time, Molly took your number to spite Sherlock. However, your suaveness caught her attention and you soon took over her thoughts.
Irene Adler-
You met Irene as one of her clients. Having a politician as a parent, despite being an adult, impacted your dating life negatively. Ironically, you heard rumors about ‘The Woman’ circulating around the political world. Feeling lonely, and considering your unusual taste in women, decided to pay her a visit.
She immediately found you unusually attractive, making it hard to maintain the distance of professionalism. She absolutely adored your secret submissive side, which complimented her desire to dominate and inflict sweet torture. After you left, she could not leave your next encounter to fate, and took matters into her own hands texting you an invitation to dinner. Throwing all prior precautions to the wind.
Greg Lestrade
You met Greg on a blind date. Your last long term relationship ended in disaster and left you bitter and jaded, and in no hurry to meet anyone new. One of your close friends, who wanted to see you happy and back in the world of dating, tried to set you up with her colleague Greg.
For a while you resisted the idea, resenting the idea of accepting help to find a new partner.
Once you finally caved into meeting Greg, you wished you accepted your friend’s attempt to set you up, sooner. Not only did you find him attractive but he turned out to be the perfect gentleman. He charmed you with his cute awkwardness, sincerity, and kindness, easily luring you in for a second date.
James (Jim) Moriarty
You met James at a concert. There was no denying your favorite band members were getting older and had an aging fan base but nothing could stop the power of music.
As fate demanded, a charming dark haired man stood next to you. Matching your excitement and enjoyment of the band’s music. He introduced himself as James, and you both spent the rest of the concert dancing and singing along with your favorite songs together. Afterwards, you exchanged numbers. The night ended with you unwittingly getting involved with a criminal mastermind.
Mycroft Holmes
You met while having lunch with Andrea. Typically, you both spend your lunch hour away from the office, sitting at a cafe, exchanging gossip, and scrolling through your phones. On this particular occasion, you and Andrea decided to order delivery. Finding yourselves too lazy to venture from the office.
Andrea took the initiative to order lunch for her boss as well. You asked if Mycroft would be joining you. Andrea brushed off the question telling you that Mycroft preferred to eat lunch alone in his office.
When your food arrived, you decided to extend a polite invite to Mycroft to join you and Andrea. At first, Mycroft considered declining the invitation, knowing it was extended as a curtesy, but something about you intrigued him and he accepted the invitation.
Although you do not immediately exchange numbers, Mycroft made a mental note to put more effort into interacting with you in the future.
Sherlock Holmes
You met Sherlock at a restaurant. You both frequented Angelo’s for a late night meal. In the past, you spotted him sitting in the corner and eating alone. You thought he was handsome, but never gathered the courage to approach him.
Sherlock had caught you staring at him a few times. Unused to the attention, and certainly not expecting positive attention, presumed you were staring at him because you thought he was weird. As a result, he did not know how to approach the situation and actively ignored you.
One night, after drinking with friends, you stopped by Angelo’s for a meal. In your impaired cognitive state, you finally gathered the liquid courage to scribble down your number and hand it to Sherlock with a messy wink telling him with slurred words to call you.
Your odd detective finally pieced together the clues when smacked with the answer, and realized you had a crush on him. Some time later the next day, Sherlock sent you a text, partially as an experiment to satisfy his curiosity, but also because you managed to catch his eye.
John Watson
You met John at a boots. You were standing at the checkout when you recognized John Watson standing in front of you. You would never admit it, but you recognized him as “The Bachelor, John Watson” from the newspapers. From his pictures, you found him attractive and found him to be more so in person.
John turned around and noticed you checking him out. He was flattered and gave you a shy smile before greeting you with a simple hello. Finding you attractive, he struck up a small conversation before asking for your number.

I know bbc Sherlock had many flaws compared to other adaptations but I think one thing they did right was his hair. It fits his personality. And I like curly hair representation in TV. I wish he didn’t tame it every time he wanted to get “neat” (like John asking him out) though.

Just watched BBC Sherlock's The Abominable Bride and. What was that. Positively.
There's the fact that I don't remember much of what happened in the series any more so the context for me was a little hazy. But I quite enjoyed it!
I am really pending a rewatch, but I have so much yet to watch so I can't 😭😭

Lana del Rey or Taylor Swift?
Lana del Rey, obviously. Her songs are much more melancholic, darker and dramatic and I do enjoy a touch of the dramatic, more instrumentally heavy with string instruments often being featured which I personally prefer. It sounds ethereal, like a siren's song, and has a slight touch of the past, sounding vintage and haunting. And I prefer her voice over Taylor's, because it sounds deeper and richer. Her music has more of a unique style, while Taylor Swift's majority of songs are more common pop songs that appeal to the masses, although Swift does have unique songs as well, it's quite different to Lana del Rey's style. They are both their own unique singers with differing styles, genres and focus of their music, so of course it's not truly comparable, I just prefer this personally out of the two. Although I do enjoy both of their songs.

July 1987. Between 1986 and 1988, Deni Loubert's Renegade Press released 15 issues of CASES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, which was not exactly a comic book, but rather a series of Holmes prose stories in comic book format, illustrated by Dan Day with covers by Day and his brother Dave. The illustrations are imaginatively designed and often quite attractive, although their intricacy and extensive use of crosshatching might have benefited from sharper reproduction. Although the stories are mostly from the Doyle canon, Day's illustrations of Watson and Holmes themselves resemble Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, who costarred in 14 Sherlock Holmes films and more than 150 half-hour radio programs between 1939 and 1946.
A 16th and final issue of CASES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, presenting "The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist," was released by Northstar Publishing in 1989.

Re-Read Recs: Victorian Edition
Thanks to @totallysilvergirl for pointing me to this post by @acethatlovesdinos asking for more Victorian Johnlock. Your timing is great; I was just compiling a list of Victorian setting fics for my next RRR post!
If you go searching specifically for Johnlock in a Victorian setting, part of the problem, as always, will be finding things. As admirable as the AO3 tagging system is, when you're searching for something specific, you still have to dig a bit.
Many people, myself included, assign all their Victorian stories to the fandom tag "Sherlock Holmes - Arthur Conan Doyle."
But some writers add "Sherlock Holmes - Arthur Conan Doyle" to all their stories, including those set in BBC or other adaptations, because they wish to attribute the characters' creator.
And some do not use the ACD tag at all because their stories, even those in a Victorian setting, are inspired by the BBC adaptation and imagined with those characters.
There are other tags: Victorian, Victorian Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Victorian Holmes/Watson, Victorian Johnlock.
(My own approach: readers may imagine whatever actors they prefer; I tag by the setting. Even so, I've tagged stories set in the 1920s and 1820s as ACD, even though these are outside of the Victorian Era.)
There is no one-click method to separate out all the stories, and only the stories, where Watson and Holmes are together in a Victorian setting. AO3 lets us use tags however we wish; it's a folksonomy, a collaborative system. For the number and variety of stories contained there, it is the most practical method.
You can search an individual author's works, filtering and sorting by kudos, hits, relationships, tags, and other things. You can search anyone's bookmarks in the same way. (I'm always surprised when people don't know this!)
If you search my works, for example, you will find 60 stories in the Sherlock Holmes - Arthur Conan Doyle fandom. A couple of those are tagged 'timetravel,' so if you don't want that, you can exclude that tag. If you don't want any stories with Mary Morstan married to John Watson, you can exclude John Watson/Mary Morstan under Relationships.
However you search, if you filter your search results by hits or kudos, you will find that stories in the ACD/Victorian Johnlock category have many fewer of these. AO3 went live only a year or so before BBC Sherlock began to air, and it was one of the top fandoms for many years. There are a huge number of stories in the BBC fandom.
But there are dedicated and talented authors who have been writing Holmes/Watson for a long time, and today I'd like to point you towards a few of them. Here are some of my favorite re-reads:
Memento Vivere - @mydogwatson - The life stories of Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes and John Watson. An alternate history.
My Gentle Sin Is This - janeofarc - It takes a near miss for Holmes to realize that he cannot imagine his life without Watson.
Missing Pages - @PlaidAdder - a group of interlinked short stories (most between 2000 and 7000 words) which tell the story of how Holmes and Watson really came to be separated at the Reichenbach Falls, and how they found each other again
Missing - @Random_Nexus - Holmes is missing. Watson is trying to figure out where he is and what happened.
Oubliette - gardnerhill - A series: a treatise on love and grief. Watson is kidnapped by a gang; Holmes must find him before it's too late.
Laphroaig in the Lumber Room - wordybirdy - Holmes & Watson discover a bottle of Laphroaig inside the lumber room at Baker Street. A drinking game of truth results in intimate confessions.
All of these authors have written many excellent Victorian Holmes/Watson fics. But there are many more you should look at if you want to read more of our boys in their original canon setting. I think I will have to write a Part 2 for this post!
Thanks for reblogging!

2024: A Re-Entry to Fandom
I guess this is a thing? (Oh shit this brackets bit was written at the end and I appear to have emotionally vomited an essay. Sorry ‘bout that.)
In late 2023 I experienced a personal tragedy and retreated to where I had always found comfort: books.
I read a series that had been recommended to me before, but I hadn’t had time to read it - The Simon Snow Trilogy by @rainbowrowell and it awoke a dormant-but-never-forgotten love of fanfiction in me.
In my teens and early 20s I wrote a lot of fan fiction on the ol’ FF net, all of it of atrocious quality I’m certain, which is why I haven’t tried to rediscover that account.
Instead I found AO3, and restarted regularly writing for fun instead of for work or study/research.
I didn’t do any summation for 2023 because I think my first fic was posted on like 10 December 2023, but AO3 tells me I wrote 4 works, all SnowBaz, at a total of 55,154 words.
In 2024, I’ve published 5 works, at a total of 94,323 words.
What truly blows me away (and honestly makes me a bit teary) is the 1013 kudos, 100 subscribers (inc 15 subscribers to just me rather than a fic!), and 222 comment threads on my works. 🥹
So: my 2024 works.
Use your words, SnowBaz, Rated: E, 3,930 words
A smutty lil gift fic wherein Baz teaches Simon how to sext.
Splendid Morons, SnowBaz, Rated: E, 12,886 words
Published for Erotic Grope Fest, aka Baz’s birthday. A collaboration with @alexalexinii and a story written to enable their amazing art of Baz in lingerie.
Precious to me for not only getting to work with Alex, but also for being the beginning of my relationship with Becky @rbkzz, my incomparable beta who has become one of the dearest people in my life.
On The Rocks, SnowBaz, Rated: E, 74,592 words (WIP)
My opus, as it were. It originated from a fluffy cute prompt of “what if Baz and Lady Ruth were work besties?!” And I came along like “YEAH! But with trauma, exploration of love in mental illness, and alcoholism!”
I began posting it in March and it’s about 2/3 done now. But for Becky it would be both an absolute pile of horse poop, and an abandoned WIP. Instead it has a clear direction and she found motifs that I’d repeatedly used by accident in my drafts and built imagery, greater meaning, and also debated me ad nauseam on my preference for spelt over spelled.
Immune Response, @lumosinlove’s Cubs, Rated: G, 1,421 words
I was a big consumer of WolfStar in my teens and was recommended Lumosinlove’s Sweater Weather and, like many before me, fell in love with the story, the original characters, and ice hockey itself (much to the surprised glee of my Canadian spouse, who for a decade has tried in vain to get me on board. Little did he know the key was obviously gays.)
This is a lil’ slice of life sick fic examining how each of the Cubs responds to getting sick.
I have a lot more unpublished drabbles about these characters and some fics that are being cocreated so stay tuned for 2025?
Preliminary, my dear Basil, SnowBaz, Rated: T, 1,494 words
A gift fic for @martsonmars as part of the Carry On Discord’s Secret Snowflake Exchange.
Among their suggestions was “Sherlock AU, but not BBC Sherlock, 19th century Sherlock” and it hooked me with the idea that Baz would absolutely fancy himself as Sherlock. I actually sketched out a plot to SnowBazify 4 of the Holmes stories, so maybe 2025 will see them unearthed.
There is one other published fic I worked on this year, but as a beta rather than a writer for @swoopswrites @rsbigbang piece Class A which was super fun to do (and got me to watch a great series - The Gentlemen on Netflix) and Swoops has a fantastic mind so I’d encourage you to to check it out.
Finally, I have always been a writer rather than an artist, but I do enjoy drawing, and the need to upgrade my iPad for work arose and so I also tried my hand at drawing again for the first time since I was 17 or so.
In order from the first one to the most recent one, the lil scribbles I did this year:
Penelope Bunce, Wolfstar on a train, Baz with coffee, cuddly Cubs, FinnLo being adorable, iconic Moony with a cane, emo Sirius Black.
And THAT was 2024 (and 2023).

Original Holmes and Watson is honestly just marriage between 2 victorian men and i love it

“It was worth a wound–it was worth many wounds–”
- Sherlock Holmes, the Adventure of the Three Garridebs
Full text and individual pages under cut:
In an instant he had whisked out a revolver from his breast and had fired two shots. I felt a sudden hot sear as if a red-hot iron had been pressed to my thigh. There was a crash as Holmes’s pistol came down on the man’s head. I had a vision of him sprawling upon the floor with blood running down his face while Holmes rummaged him for weapons. Then my friend’s wiry arms were round me, and he was leading me to a chair.
“You’re not hurt, Watson? For God’s sake, say that you are not hurt!”
It was worth a wound–it was worth many wounds–to know the depth of loyalty and love which lay behind that cold mask. The clear, hard eyes were dimmed for a moment, and the firm lips were shaking. For the one and only time I caught a glimpse of a great heart as well as of a great brain. All my years of humble but single-minded service culminated in that moment of revelation.
“It’s nothing, Holmes. It’s a mere scratch.”
He had ripped up my trousers with his pocket-knife.
“You are right,” he cried with an immense sigh of relief. “It is quite superficial.” His face set like flint as he glared at our prisoner, who was sitting up with a dazed face. “By the Lord, it is as well for you. If you had killed Watson, you would not have got out of this room alive. Now, sir, what have you to say for yourself?”
