“You ate without me…?” Cheol’s sleepy mumble was the first thing you heard from him. He had tiredly trudged downstairs when he had woken up and you weren’t next to him in the bed. It was already a bad start to the day when that happened, and he was frowning and pouting and generally sulking about it by the time he found you.

He wrapped his arms around you from the back, trapping you in the middle of the living room so you couldn’t continue without giving him the attention he needed. You smiled at his clinginess and deep raspy morning voice, but scoffed at how baby-like he was in the morning. Sometimes he acted even more like a child than your actual child. 

Eunha was your now 2 year old daughter. She was adored by everyone and constantly doted on. She could be a handful at times, but only because she had started to take after your bossiness and knew exactly how to appeal to Seungcheol. If she ever wanted something, all she had to do was look at them with those big boba eyes that she got from him, and he’d be folding.

He loved her more than anything. Probably even more than you, but you were okay with it. It warmed your heart how much he cared for his daughter. He’d die for her in a heartbeat without a second of hesitation. You were learning more and more every day the love a father could hold for his children. You had expected this attitude when you married him, of course. Because you knew him and you knew how caring he was. He was so filled with love for people and the world, and you were so lucky to have him.

Starting a family had always been a dream for both of you, and Eunha’s birth had been your biggest blessing. It was challenging to take care of a toddler, but you and Cheol always did your best.

Eunha was happily playing with her toy dolls after eating breakfast— the entire living room spread with her mess. It was always a constant of cleaning her toys in the evening just for her to make a new mess the next day, but you didn’t mind. It was worth it to see her so happy, and though it could be stressful to have a messy space sometimes, her happy giggles made up for it.

“Were you playing dolls with her without me as well?” Cheol asked, the pout he was wearing somehow finding its way into his tone. You giggled and he squeezed you tighter out of jealousy. He didn’t want to admit that he missed your attention being only on him, but it was true. 

You were getting up earlier to feed Eunha and play with her in the morning. The sleepy morning cuddles that Cheol looked forward to every time he fell asleep next to you were becoming rarer and rarer and he felt bitter about the change. It just wasn’t the same with Eunha. It wasn’t worse, it was definitely better in most aspects, but the free time that he had enjoyed before was being sucked away by the little child.

“She wanted me to be the doctor.” You told him, explaining the dynamics of Eunha’s favourite game. She would be the mother to her little baby doll, and either Cheol or you would usually be the doctor.

“The bed was so cold without you…” He murmured, pushing his cheek against your neck. His skin was warm against yours and you leaned into him more, savouring the feeling.

“I’m sorry. You know that Eunha likes to get up early…” You whispered.

“She should’ve woken me up instead of you. Aren’t you tired?” 

“A bit. Eating breakfast with her was nice, though. She insisted on having strawberries with her yogurt since she had seen me eat it like that once.” You smiled. Seungcheol pouted.

“I thought I was her favourite…” He was mostly joking, of course, but slightly hurt. He had always been susceptible to jealousy. Maybe he was a little too greedy— he loved watching you and Eunha spend time together, but he also hated being left out.

Your little moment of warm embrace was interrupted after 2 minutes, a giggly Eunha running up and clinging to her father’s leg. She babbled something about her doll and wanting to get ice cream later today, which you were sure Seungcheol would indulge her in. He spoiled her too much.

You were happy to see your husband’s pout lift up into the sweetest of grins. He picked up Eunha, holding her so that she was resting on his hip. He kept one arm around you; almost if you would run away and leave him if he didn’t. Which was probably partially true since you hadn’t cleaned up from breakfast yet.

“Give daddy a kiss?” Cheol asked Eunha, giggles ensuing amongst both of them. She leaned forward and kissed his cheek cutely and you smiled. Now that Seungcheol was awake as well, the two would be inseparable for the rest of the day— especially since Cheol didn’t have any work to get to.

The morning happily proceeded with a small second breakfast and playtime. Now that your husband was being included in every activity, he was all smiles and giggles. He liked being the centre of attention; you had discovered that fact throughout the years. He was the happiest man in the world when he knew he was making his daughter happy.

Her happiness always came first, even when it relied on Seungcheol’s hair being tied up in pigtails with little cherry-coloured bows because Eunha wanted to play hairdresser. You were almost envious of how cute he looked in them. It was impossible not to love everything that Cheol did.

Along with the bows came matching sweaters with a cherry pattern for father and daughter. One look at the two and you could easily declare them the two cutest human beings in the entire world.

Eddie loves you dearly— so, so, so dearly. You know that, he knows that, and he’s pretty sure that every person in the country knows that.

He loves you so much, but he would oh-so-dearly love to go to sleep right now. 

The only issue is you’ve got what he likes to call the ‘zoomies’. Yes— like puppies get when they’re all full of energy and excitement, and just have to have everyone’s attention. You’re being silly, and giggly, and prodding at him to entertain yourself— which he loves and finds so endearing, but after a full day of work, band practice, and then doing all the chores that just won’t leave him alone, he’s wiped clean.

So when you continue giggling, making yourself laugh by doing things like squeezing his cheeks together, and playing with his hair by putting it in all different directions that you think is just so funny, he ‘falls asleep’.

At first you don’t buy it.

“Eddie, I know you’re faking,” you said, still giggly as ever. 

Eddie responded in a grumbled and sleepy ‘huh’, that had you second guessing. 

“Are you really falling asleep?” 

Eddie hummed quietly, sealing the deal. 

“No fun,” you pouted quietly, leaning into him. 

Under the weight of your shoulder pushing against his chest, he pretended to rouse the slightest bit, quietly murmuring your name, putting on the best performance of his life. You made a quiet little sound, like a sighed defeat.

He felt bad making his poor baby upset like this, all pouty and huffy, but it’s late and you should be going to sleep anyway (or maybe he’s just tired and trying to justify this one teeny tiny little white lie).

As the seconds on the clock ticked by, you seemed to accept that he was asleep. Giggly-no-more, you settle into his side, laying close to him, both of you cozied under the blankets together. Despite the warmth and calmness that now encapsulates the room, Eddie was so wrapped up in selling the idea that he was asleep that he forgot to actually fall asleep. 

Just as he had begun to nod, you placed a flat hand to his chest, stirring him back awake.

“Just keep sleeping, Eddie. Okay?” you had whispered. It was an odd tone that you used, and an even odder phrase, seeming almost like you were up to something. He kept his eyes closed as you paused, keeping your hand pressed to his chest. It felt like a trap to him, like somehow you knew he was faking. In a quick decision, he decided to stick to his guns and continue his facade. 

“Eddie?” you had said not long after, voice raising the slightest bit louder. 

With a quiet hum from your lips, he felt your hand move from his chest, fingertips gravitating upwards, brushing over his bangs, pushing them back with a gentle lightness that was almost tickle inducing.

Voice honeyed and sugary sweet, “I love you,” whispered from your lungs, making his chest squeeze. 

Your fingers brushed against his forehead again, grazing so softly down to his cheek, and he questioned whether or not he had actually fallen asleep. With the edge of your nail coasting across his chin, he decided he was still very much awake, he’s not dreaming just yet. 

Only now he was faced with a dilemma. Does he do what he so desperately wants to do? Give up his act just to kiss you? Or does he continue pretending to be asleep, keeping you blissfully unaware of how he’s deceiving you?

“Thank you for loving me,” you whispered even more quietly than before, pulling Eddie from his internal debate. “I never could have imagined finding someone who is as kind as you are.” You let out a quiet breath, gathering your thoughts. “And for you to love me… I’m the luckiest person in the world,” you continued. 

With every word, you took shallow breaths that fueled your whispers. Eddie felt his whole chest squeeze all at a once. His heart pitter-pattered happily in his chest and his lower lip threatened to jet out, revealing all of his ever-growing big emotions, but you continued, forcing him to pause and listen. 

“‘Cause you’re so nice, and funny— and I love that you let me squeeze your cheeks and poke your bum and make your bangs all messy,” you giggled softly to yourself, and Eddie was a melted puddle of a man at your side. 

He let you continue, selfishly wanting to hear more. 

“And I love that you are so good at being yourself and… I don’t know…” you trailed off. “I guess, being around you has helped me be myself too. Thank you for loving me,” you sighed. You’re starting to sound tired, no doubt getting closer and closer to the cusp of sleep, but you push forward, voice turning into the cadence of a groggy ramble. “I love you so much, Eddie, and I hope you’re having really good dreams right now because I love you and you deserve them.”

Such a powerful ability you have, to be able to reduce him to a love-stricken mess of a man. All it took were a few sweet nothings whispered in your gooey, syrupy sweet voice and he was melting. A mess of a man that suddenly had the slightest threatening sting behind his eyelids as his soul swooned for you. 

The final straw; when your lips connected to his chest in a loving, drawn out kiss, his fate was set. He couldn’t not kiss you. Without even blinking his eyes open, he was pushing himself over you just enough to press kisses wherever he could land them. 

“Eddie!” you exclaimed in true shock. He pressed kisses across your cheek and down your jaw. 

“I fucking love you,” he rasped through his tired voice. 

“You— you’re sleeping,” you huffed. “Eddie,” you drew out in a whine. 

“Thank you for loving me,” he said with all the conviction in the world. He truly was a lucky guy to get to call you his.

His kisses expand down to your neck, just dainty things, light presses of his lips that he hopes translate the way his heart soars for you. Gentle, chaste kisses, one after the other, all the way down to over your heart. He presses a matching kiss to the one you had given him, drawing it out, adding all of his love and adoration into it, just for you.

“I love you,” he promised, lifting his head to catch your gaze. A cross of embarrassment and smitten affection spans across your face, and he moves in for the kill— a kiss straight to your lips. 

“You were pretending,” you pouted, furrowing your brows at him. 

“Never,” he lied.

“You were.”

“But you’ll forgive me because you love me, right?” he smiled as big as he could, doing his best to butter you up. He watches the way your coy smile breaks and he considers it a win.

You didn’t dignify him with a response, you merely rolled your eyes before pushing yourself into his chest, cuddling close enough to hide your face and your growing smile. 

“I’m going to sleep,” you huffed against his skin. 

“I love you,” he replied proudly, both smug and happy. 

“Love you,” you mumbled back, and he swore that even if you were mad at him in the morning, it was all worth it. 

Maybe he ought to pretend to be asleep more often.

i felt like i was at a drive thru restaurant ordering the entire episode. can i get some flirting, with a side of ass kicking, and ummm let me get a side of poetic, confessional yearning from rick grimes. yeah, that’ll be all.

the next morning, a lie-in after a great long sleep - more sex, then a shower, then matty cooking breakfast while you sit on the sofa with mayhem and coo at him (which makes matty go all gooey lol). it's not too hot or sunny, so you decide to spend the day taking mayhem for a loooooooooong walk along the river; he goes in for a swim and its the happiest you've ever seen him. naturally, matty considers moving out of the city then and there lmao. the three of you end up in a pub beer garden for dinner, you and matty chatting nonsense over your pints, before heading back "home" and having a bubble bath together with some wine, which inevitably leads to yet more sex. it's a perfect few days, which is something matty addresses when you're cuddled into his chest, listening to the birds and watching the sunlight stream through the curtains, on your final morning in the cottage - he's like "this has been perfect, waking up and spending my days with you. don't wanna go home", and you're like "neither do i. want to just be with you all the time". and then matty has an absolute eureka moment and says quietly "will you move in with me, please? really don't think i can go back to living alone and making breakfast by myself. s'a lot better when you've got your arms wrapped around me lol", and you kiss him softly and say "yes, i will", and you do!! i also think you write a little free-form essay about the trip when you get back to london, with an epigraph from another of your fav classic romantic female authors that perfectly describes how you feel about your own love interest: "whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same" <3

ok maybe i’m jumping the gun bcos i’m only halfway-ish through hellbent, but! as much as i love the dynamic between darlingstern and as much as they are both developed as characters, i feel like there was no development between the two of them? there’s no scene or chapter that makes me go, “oh that’s why they’re so insane abt the other,” and i keep expecting a flashback to happen to explain it. the crystal smashing scene was cute but i don’t see how it makes alex become obsessed w saving darlington or how it makes darlington consistently reach out to her when he’s in hell. am i going crazy i feel like i’m missing something. the mutual obsession is 10/10 but it’s like. Why are they mutually obsessed with each other

i thought that too which is why i thought they were like no way near being in a romantic relationship after ninth house. and after i went in the tag and people were writing ninth house fic where they just get together. i was like nooooo! they are not ready for that

and when leigh bardugo was like i wanna write like ten books for this series i was like yeah!! bc they NEED to be like scully and mulder and be in an insane codependent workplace relationship for like ten million years before they get anywhere romantically

until she changed her mind and made it a trilogy so then the trajectory of it changed in book 2.

but i do get why alex was trying to get him back in the beginning. it wasn’t necessarily romantic. he was her friend but also she feels guilt for her hesitation when he got sucked in after figuring out the ground zero stuff. and then the intrigue of no one being able to figure out what the hell happened to him added to the obsession.

and then the whole reveal of how if HE was disposable to lethe how much do they really care about her. it’s codependent coworkers

i didn’t get why he was also insane. until they gave his backstory and he was just as lonely and neglected as her despite the polished veneer of him. so like i GET why they latched onto each other (they litchrally have no one else who’s in the same boat) but i also think it’s true they need sooooo much more until a romance between them would actually hit.

but i do think at the end of book 2 they are in a new place entirely bc their standing changes a lot. this dream was lowkey foreshadowing of where they are at the end of book 2 too: it’s not the same

i think part of it is just classic codependent coworkers situation which then warps considerably after alex literally went to hell to get him out. like they’re still very much coworkers despite all that. so now it’s weird lmao. and it’s really hard to be casual about it. even tho alex is very much trying.

but yeah i also think they are not there romantically yet but they are also insane so it kind of doesn’t matter bc the devotion isn’t romantic. i need them to keep being insane. and with how much book 2 changed the trajectory i think book 3 can pull through if done well. but who knows. here’s hoping <3

I have quite a few hang ups with Come Morning Light, the hunger games au I posted one chapter for back in November and have yet to update.

The first and foremost personal challenge is the fact that I, PCE, a certified Angst Wimp, am gonna have to kill off sooooo many of my faves. Like Hunger Games has some dark ass subject matter, kids forced to kill each other. I’m struggling with that, especially with what I have planned for Craig.

Along that same line, it’s gonna be a HUGE cast of characters, which I’ve had difficulty with in the past, it’s one of the reasons I primarily operate in oneshots. I love a good The Gangs All Here fic, but fleshing out 20+ characters is HARD. Bc a fluffy 2k word oneshot of Stan and Kyle in an awkward meet cute where there’s maybe one other character (usually kenny lmfao I’m a creature of habit) is a WHOLE different animal than a multicharacter multichapter. That’s something I had to figure out recently with TWITR, and character introduction held me up a lot in ATLCTS.

Okay this one may seem really inconsequential to a lot of people, but one thing I didn’t think about when developing this concept was the fact that there’s not really away for me to get around Stan eating meat lmao that’s one thing that over my time writing sp fanfiction has become ESSENTIAL to me characterizing that boy. I’ll probably just have him make a comment about how he could never kill animals himself WHICH BRINGS ME TO:

Kyle as our Katniss character. So if you’re familiar with my bs, every time I write Kyle, he’s inherently less angry until it’s called for, he’s very idealistic in his worldview and it takes something actually really pissing him off for him to snap. This is NOT gonna be the case here!!! This boy is ANGRY BY DEFAULT, the worlds out to get him? fuck the world right back! Plus, the entire story is gonna be from his perspective, bc I love writing Kyle, but it’s gonna take all my willpower not to turn him into my usual empathetic to a fault sweet people loving Kys.

Also, I usually tend to leave the adults mostly out of my stuff, but they’re gonna play quite the role in this. We got Garrison as Haymitch, Big Gay Al as Effie, fuckin Mr Slave as Cinna. I’ve never even WRITTEN the three of them. The dynamics gonna be fun tho.

Ofc there’s the problem of it being an adaptation too. There’s a fine line between just replacing hg characters with sp names and copying the plot, as opposed to making it your own. I do have some plot changes planned, but this is an issue I faced with We’re Gonna Sing It Even So, and that almost led me to abandon that fic when I felt like I was just plagiarizing Hadestown.

Also I’m not planning to adapt more than the first book. I reallllly couldn’t handle Kenny taking out Ike with his trap in the third one.

BUT!!! This won’t be abandoned, it’ll just be slow going!!! Ya wanna know the main reason?

Because the first idea I had for CML (other than Kyle volunteering for his little brother) was STAN AND KYLE IN THE FUCKING CAVE SCENES. A major change is that both of them are already deeply down bad, but those scenes??? Yeah no one’s playing for the cameras. I wanna fuck Stan up in the arena so bad lmfao that boy is my original sp whump muse and NATURALLY Kyle taking care of him I love that shit. Girl we gonna GET that prosthetic leg the movies left out (Ship In A Bottle Stan moment, I love that fic btw) as the Style Injury Dealer, I MUST deliver.

The slight discourse about race hc’s in the community has made me wanna put all my hc races of my favorite boys and their listeners

Warning!! I am black myself and these are just descriptions of what I see in my head based off of how the voices sound and what other people’s hc have made me see

David is white. He’s born tan though, Him and his dad are both on the darker side of white.

Angel is half white half black. So they’re fairly lightskinned.

Asher might be white and hispanic. I could see him whining “¿Por Que Mamiii?” whe his mom tells him to do something.

Baabe is black. Like big Afro and dark skin black.

Milo is black and Italian (And Irish). Colm is Italian so his skin is fairly light and his hair is really just fluffy and straight. Marie is a cute 5’0 darkskinned mama with 4a hair. So Milo is a good shade darker than caramel macchiato and his hair isn’t super thick, but instead super curly (when it gets wet it turns really straight and slick)

Sweetheart is black and mexican. They’re darker than angel but lighter than Milo. Their hair can get really thick when it’s dry but their curls loosen a lot when their hair is wet.

Sam is around the same shade as david, maybe a little lighter. I think that Sam’s parents were also on the darker side of caucasian and I’m a strong believer that Sam LOOOOVED the sun while he was a human. Being a vampire just turned him pale because of the whole sun thing.

Darlin’ is darkskinned. A good percent of their family from both mom and dad’s side is from Georgia. Big Hair, much like Baaabe’s but down their back.

Gavin is….I cant decide if i want him to be a hot pink-ish guy or if i want him to be a darkskin guy with dreads. (Demons do come in all sorts of colors shapes forms and sizes so it could work either way)

FL is my shade. Just african american. Super curly hair and always keeps their hair in a back puff so it’s out of their face. Around this color

Damien is white and japanese. I just know his skin is flawless. Hair grows ridiculously fast.

Huxley is either Samoan & white or black. Now there’s a few possibilities for Hux…

He has a buzz cut so that when he lays on the ground he can be “Closer to Earth”

If not a buzzer, it’s the most luscious curly/wavy and bouncy hair LITERALLY EVER.

If he’s black, he used to cut his hair off a lot because his hair got annoying to tame but decided to loc it up because he thinks locs are “sick”

Lasko is just white in my head. Brown fluffy hair and freckles white.

Guy is kinda tan white. Not as near as dark as David but a little darker than Lasko. I actually think Guy’s hair is kinda curly (it’s a pain to put that hair net on)

Honey is just white. I would say spicy white but they’re more like “black washed white” like “Grew up in the hood” white.

Blake is super white. Greenish blue eyes, black straight fluffy hair.

Bestie is black. A little heat damage because high school’s beauty standard is destructive, but very curly hair down to their shoulders.

Avior…I wanna say he’s grey. This pretty shade of grey that makes him look a little off white, but his hair and features fit his skin so well. He’s just a glittery guy.

Starlight is African american too. Really just like Bestie but with longer hair.

Vincent is sooooo white. I mean obviously bc of the vampire thing. But no fr he’s basically the color white. Black hair though.

Lovely is ALSO pretty white. Dark brown long straight hair and literally turns THEE color red when you embarrass them.
