On today's episode of I Work In A Comic Shop:

So on Sundays, I run D&D games for kids (ages ranging about 6-16). It's fun, we goof around a lot and I let them get away with most things in-game as long as they can semi-reasonably justify how it'd happen.

And something I do often, when the kids start looking for every single detail about NPC #4534 because they've decided he's Very Very Important™️, is to just stick in a reference to some random movie. (For example: "This townsperson's name is Billiam S. Preston Esquire, and his buddy Teddy Bear Logan is missing! If he doesn't return soon, then Wyld Stallyns will lose their concert gig at the local tavern!") If the kids get it, it's a fun easter egg, and if they don't, then at least I didn't have to come up with a fantasy name on the spot.

My latest adventure involved a battle with a gang of skeletons, after which their scattered bones start wriggling towards the source of the dark magic that animated them in the first place.

And I'm struck with what I consider to be a bit of brilliance.

So, we're playing, and we reach the end of the battle. I explain that the bones are all moving eastwards, and then I add:

"You're reminded of the legend of old, of the great adventurer Hiro and his mighty companion Baymax, who tracked a pack of magical nanobots to their evil master using a single hostage bot."

Now the table erupts in laughter, and I'm feeling pretty good. But then we realize that the youngest of our party (an 8-year-old) looks confused at what's so funny. He doesn't get the reference.

I'm naturally surprised - this is a well-known Disney movie, I figure pretty much all the kids know it. But apparently he hasn't seen it. And so I quickly google the release date of Big Hero Six.

It is 2014. Nine years ago. In other words, the movie is older than this kid. And I am immediately hit by the passage of time like a truck.

Looking for: • An active, long-term partner (21+) to write as Yandere!Ted "Theodore" Logan against my Bill S. Preston, Esquire from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure! I just love the idea of a sweet, puppy-like character going absolutely crazy. They will both be aged up to 18.

• I don't have a preferred ratio of plot/smut, but an estimate would be an even 50/50 (this can change later on depending on the story if you'd like). We can discuss general triggers and kinks as well before we start. Although I am smut-fishing just a little lol

• I would prefer to write Bill as the bottom since I'm more comfortable with writing bottoms. This WILL contain 🕊 so, your usual yandere behavior.

General Idea: Set sometime after Excellent Adventure when they've passed their history report but haven't graduated from high school yet. There's still the worry about prom, and Ted doesn't take it too well when Bill rejects his promposal. Bill likes Ted, maybe as more than a friend, but he's not sure if he can accept that fact just yet. Ted wants to help him out.

WHO IS GEORGIE DAVIDSON?

Georgie Davidson is a 17 year old student at Hatchetfield High School. She lives with her parents, Mr. Ken Davidson and Mrs. Carol Davidson, in a suburb near the outskirts of Witchwood Forest. She’s a music + theater nerd, a stoner, and an avid researcher of urban legends and local history.

Her relationships differ based on timelines and circumstance, but there are some through-lines.

- Best friends with Alice Woodward. They met at a CCRP take your kid to work day as elementary schoolers and have been inseparable since. Bill is also like a second father to her.

- Close friends with Ruth Fleming. Georgie started doing school theater very young, and pretty much knew everyone involved. Ruth joined the tech crew in middle school and, being a certified chatterbox, Georgie regularly spent her breaks trying to talk to the new girl. Eventually, she broke her down and they’ve been close since.

- Drifted apart childhood friends with Richie Lipschitz. In middle school, they rode the same bus and both ended up sitting next to each other one day. Georgie struck up a conversation out of boredom and something just stuck. They kept sitting with each other and talking more in school, becoming closer friends. But, Georgie started developing feelings for Richie and she didn’t understand them, so she began to distance herself. Now, they don’t speak at all.

- Family Friends (?) with Paul Matthews. Georgie was babysat by Paul as a child, often alongside Alice, as she’d frequently stay at the Woodward place. She still calls him Uncle Paul, a childhood habit.

- Charlotte Sweetly babysat Georgie once in a while, too. Mr. Davidson asked the employees of the office to look after his daughter as a last resort, and offered to pay as overtime. Charlotte accepted happily, and spent the night braiding Georgie’s hair, making cookies and singing with the girl. They did this regularly, until Mr. Davidson became uncomfortable with Georgie being around her husband, Sam. But, like Paul, she’s still Aunt Charlotte.

- Second-cousins with Zoey & Zach Chambers. They don’t see each other or talk like, ever. But, it makes Georgie feel very starstruck to be related to Hatchetfield’s finest actress.

- Friends with Deb, Trevor, Caitlyn, PJ, Reese, Rose, Ziggs, Sof, and Danny

- Dislikes Max Jägerman, Kyle Clauger, Brad Callahan, Grace Chasity, Brenda, Ted Spankoffski, The Metzgers

I hate the Time aspect I think. I don't get it at all! I've got it for the first time this session. Seer of Time though, and I've been a Seer of Mind before, so I didn't think it'd be that bad, but...

Ugh. It's just so totally different.

Like, I don't want to make doomed timelines, but I don't get how my future-sight doesn't cause them? Like, if I see the future, and then change things so it never comes to pass... then it wasn't really the future, so I don't get how I saw it in the first place. And if it really was the future, then changing things should have doomed the timeline, but it doesn't seem like it did.

Worse yet, I've read guides by other Seers of Time that say you CAN doom a timeline by observing the future "wrong", but a lot of them seem to think it's just obvious what that means? But it's not to me!

I think I see what the problem is. You think Future Sight is just your future. It's entirely possibly that you're viewing Doomed Timelines, which is in line with a Seer of Time's abilities. You can probably see Doomed and Alpha Timelines, and will need to learn to differentiate between the two. If it happens in a Doomed Timeline, you could avert this fate. If it happens in an Alpha Timeline, it will happen and you can't change it, without making it Doomed. So it's likely that you saw an event lead to a bad outcome in a Doomed Timeline, and changed that future (leading to a better Alpha Timeline).

I should also note that Future Sight doesn't cause Doomed Timelines by themselves. It's more that information is dangerous, so you should tread carefully when peering into the future. Let's say you saw into the future and saw yourself die. If this was a Doomed Timeline, you dying is a symptom of said Dooming, and thus you can prevent it (probably). If it was the Alpha Timeline though, you have to die, no getting around it. The future, while predetermined to an extent, does operate on a somewhat Schrodingeresque fashion, where things are only "destined" to happen when they happen, and observing an event solidifies it as "going to happen". To see the future is to create a prophecy at the same time. Future Sight can "doom a timeline" in the sense that you viewing your own death will lead to you trying to prevent it, which creates a Doomed Timeline (and ironically, your own eventual inevitable death).

Though it should be noted, you can still "trick" Time. The sanctity of the information has to be upheld, but it is mutable. If your death was via getting shot in the head, you could maybe swap the real bullets for rubber bullets. You still get shot in the head, but less lethally. Or if it was a bomb that blew you up, it actually blew up a clone or a body double. In the worst cases, you foresee your own death, but you could get revived shortly thereafter. Though seeing as how your role is a Seer of Time, you would have to get someone else to swap out the bullets/plant the clone/revive you, all while taking your own death into account as part of the plan. As long as the information isn't outright contradicted, it can be changed. This is Advanced Time Bullshit though, as opposed to Basic Time Bullshit like "don't kill yourself in the past", or that Bill & Ted thing where you "retroactively" find an item you stashed away, but now you have to travel back in time to actually put the item there to avoid a paradox (I just call it slipshanking).

Time is complicated, but your Whispers will help you out here. Upholding the timeline is a Duty, and the game for all its faults does teach people how to uphold their Duties (you'll notice that whoever does Ectobiology has no issue while everyone else is slamming their head against the terminal, this is why, it's that person's Duty and nobody else's).
