baby bird shenanigans
(image description: a sketched comic page of a small family. Mori, a man with feathery wings and other bird-like features, his wife Evelyn, a gnomish woman with a pig-like snout and a goatee, and their two kids; a tiny scrungly bird-like baby and a very young girl named Brynzli who is part dwarf and part elf. The comic will be described in a fuller scripted format below a cut. In summary, the bird baby is hungry, so Mori feeds it in the typical fashion of a bird parent, by regurgitating food. Brynzli asks Evelyn why the bird baby doesn't eat the same way other babies do. Evelyn tells her it's because bird people are just different, and Brynzli thinks it over for a moment. She then declares that she can eat all by herself because she is a big girl. end description.)
Because I enjoy going a little over the top with my fantasy people sometimes and the idea of a baby just shoving its little face into someone's mouth is hilarious to me. Also, children in general are very amusing. Brynzli also believes for years that all babies hatch from eggs, because she watched this baby hatch from an egg. So she didn't think she needed to ask any further questions. babies hatch from eggs. where do the eggs come from? trees, probably. I love writing her, she's so much fun.
anyway, full comic description and script under the cut:
A small bird-like baby is laying on his stomach, eyes squeezed shut and mouth open wide to show a sharp beak tooth. He is yelling, illustrated with a large letter A over his head.
Mori approaches and picks up the yelling baby, saying: "whoops, baby's hungry. C'mere."
With his mouth open wide, Mori is implied to regurgitate some form of food for the baby. The baby is shoving his little head as far into Mori's mouth as he can, and Mori looks somewhat uncomfortable with this.
Evelyn is standing nearby with a cup in her hands. She smiles with some sympathy but also a little smugness as she remarks: "I am so glad that's your job." with emphasis on "so" and "your". Mori looks up at her with mild annoyance while the baby is still feeding out of his mouth.
Brynzli taps Evelyn on the arm, Evelyn acknowledges her by saying: "oh, hi Brynzli." Brynzli looks confused and asks: "um, mom-lyn, I thought babies have to eat from chests?" (though the comic spells some words funny to imply a toddler's voice).
Evelyn gently explains: "yes, most babies are breast-fed. But daddy and Jr are bird people, so it's different."
Brynzli replies: "oh." and then thinks very hard, scrunching her face and having some vague math scribbles around her head to imply deep complex thought.
Brynzli then declares, to Evelyn's amusement: "Well, I get to eat all by myself, cuz I'm a big girl!" (again with misspellings to indicate the toddler voice). Mori is now holding the baby against his shoulder, where it looks content. Mori is grimacing and he mumbles: "bleh. Baby breath."
