on the scale of like. The machine is:
not alive <- a person -> a higher being
I think it goes
Finch <- Reese -> Root
Which is sooo funny because everyone other than John would give essays about why they strongly believe they are right on this one AND essays on why "the machine is a person" is not a neutral stance to take at all but they are all betraying how much they care too much about the topic compared to him. I think he believes the machine is a person because people are easy to understand on a conceptual level even if not on an individual level. They exist. They have their own motivations. Every other stance is so intensely philosophical it becomes impractical.

Fuck Linux.
Everytime I complain about a minor issue with Windows I get like 6000 tech bros falling over themselves to screech "JUST USE LINUX" at me. No. I won't use Linux. I have a full time job, medical issues I'm dealing with, friends I wanna hang out with, a game I'm starting work on slowly but surely, and hobbies that have nothing to do with software, and responsibilities as an adult who lives with other people on top of all of those things. And when you consider that combination of obligations and things I enjoy doing and want to do there's not much time for me spending 8 hours fighting with an operating system to make it run the EXEs for the emulators I like.
I don't have the time, will, nor desire to spend days upon days or possibly even weeks struggling through IT bullshit to make my computer do all the things I want to do. The windows computer I already have already works with at least 85% of those things right out of the box.
Sure, fuck Microsoft (though Valve is an awful company to buy LinuxBros get mad when you acknowledge that), and Windows has tons of issues of its own not including the outdated ones MACbros like Dankpods who's barely touched the operating system since Windows 7 think are still relevant (Yes I said something negative about Australian retro funnyman, cry about it.)
I am perfectly happy dealing with the annoying administrative permission issues, inexplicable performance drops doing something it handled perfectly fine yesterday, or apps not closing sometimes even when I go through task manager. Those and many other issues are all annoying but I'm accustomed to them.
My only direct experience with Linux in the last few years has been on my steam deck, and every problem I've had with the steam deck has come entirely from trying to download things through Desktop mode and having to deal with Linux. If there isn't a native Linux version of the program I want to run I have to jump through hoops after hoops doing research for hours as I try multiple methods, most of which fail and the rest seem promising then just won't successfully install for some inexplicable reason. Eventually like the 58th thing I try finally works and then I try and get something else working and that somehow BREAKS THE PREVIOUS THING!
All of which is compounded by this software having no native support for any of this so there's no official Linux support line I can reach out to for further assistance. I have to look up guides or forum posts and pray to the god I don't believe in that they're up to date which 9/10 times they aren't.
I'm glad you techbros enjoy spending 40 hours a week getting Linux to work for you, but I don't want every little thing I do on my computer to be a full time job. I have a lot of other shit going on in my life, including things I actually enjoy doing, and I don't have time. I'll stick with the operating system that works out the box.

Sometimes I feel like the discourse about AI art misses the actual point of why it’s not a good tool to use.
“AI art isn’t ‘real’ art.” —> opinion-based, echoes the same false commentary about digital art in general, just ends up in a ‘if you can’t make your own store-bought is fine’ conversation, implies that if art isn’t done a certain way it lacks some moral/ethical value, relies on the emotional component of what art is considered “real” or not which is wildly subjective
“AI art steals from existing artists without credit.” —> fact-based, highlights the actual damage of the tool, isn’t relying on an emotional plea, can actually lead to legally stopping overuse of AI tools and/or the development of AI tools that don’t have this problem, doesn’t get bogged down in the ‘but what if they caaaaan’t make art some other way’ argument
Like I get that people who don’t give a shit about plagiarism aren’t going to be swayed, but they weren’t going to be swayed by the first argument either. And the argument of “oh well AI art can’t do hands/isn’t as good/can’t do this thing I have decided indicates True Human Creativity” will eventually erode since… the AI tools are getting better and will be able to emulate that in time. It just gets me annoyed when the argument is trying to base itself on “oh this isn’t GOOD art” when AI does produce interesting and appealing images and the argument worth having is much more about the intrinsic value of artists than the perceived value of the works that are produced.

I've got colleagues in education that say everything is fine
But I have a student who called me today telling me they can't make it to class because they just got out of the hospital after an attempt.
The board members say education is fine
But I've got parents calling me telling me a child will be out because they have to testify for two weeks at a trial after they were molested by family.
The media says education is fine
But I've not seen or heard from numerous students since the inauguration.
Everyone says I should be completely fine because I'm so lucky to have holidays and summers off (which I don't)
But I'm not. I'm a queer gender non-conforming teacher in the South with autism and BPD. I am crashing out, but I also can't... because my kids need me.
Because I will not be the adult that looks away when they're scared or at their worst.
Because they're being choked to death with bullshit and I just want them to feel safe enough to take a fucking history test.
Because their rights are being taken away if they dissolve the DOE, and I don't trust half these people to support them once they legally don't have to. Once they can no longer make a buck off their test scores.
And people wonder why teachers burn out and the US education system is absolutely on fire.

Also 90% of my good doodles lately have been in the fucking. iPad notes app and I'd have to screenshot them at garbage quality to upload them here and also they're very messy but like I said I like them, they're good and it frustrates me that if I share them they'll end up looking like dookie

Okay, you know what though? My college experience may have sucked ass and I have too much debt not enough pay, but I can pull credentials in three different areas.
Shut up, I was an art student.
Shut up, listen to the fashion major.
Look here pal, I have a business and management degree.
The average joe just looks silly to argue (◡ ω ◡)

Justice League Dark being all worried because an ancient and magically powerful pharaoh is going to awaken to his past life memories soon and could usher in a new age of darkness if he isn't stopped.
Tucker, said pharaoh, gains his past life memories and magical power, and ignores it in favor of continuing his internship at Wayne Tech.
Part 2
Wonder Woman frowned. “What are you saying?”
Constantine growled. “I’m saying that if we don’t find this thing fast…. It could bring in a new age of darkness. And trust me, you don’t want to find out what that could mean.”
Wonder Woman turned to Zatanna. “How dangerous is this thing? And how did this happen?”
Zatanna shook her head, also looking worried and confused. “I’m not entirely sure. However, Constantine and I did some spells and we talked to some other psychics, who have all said the same thing. Someone out there in the world will soon gain their past life’s memories and magical power, and with it, they will have the knowledge and capabilities to bring death and chaos to this world. We need to stop them.”
Wonder Woman nodded. “Tell me what we need to do. We must stop this person before anything could happen!”
————
“Wait, but didn’t we already know that you’re the reincarnation of a past pharaoh?” Danny said, staring at him in bafflement through the screen. “This isn’t anything new.”
Tucker rolled his eyes. “I know! Like damn, couldn’t I have given these powers in high school?”
“Still wouldn’t get bitches though,” Sam said dryly, not even looking up from where she was trimming her plants.
“Hey!” Tucker complained.
Danny smirked. “Maybe you could say he’s a…. Late bloomer?”
He chortled as they both groaned. Sam picked up her flowers and placed them under her desk to protect them from Danny’s awful puns with a shake of her head. Tucker just gave a long sigh.
Tucker was sullen. “I mean… it’s cool and all, but I don’t need them, y’know? And for some reason, I have voices in my head telling me to start the apocalypse now.”
Sam and Danny stared at him with varying degrees of unimpressed and concern. “Well? Are you?” Sam asked, raising an eyebrow.
Tucker snorted. “Hell no. You know how much I get paid at Wayne Enterprises? I get paid buckets for only an hour a day to write up some software and then I can spend the rest of the time on games. There’s no way I’m going to waste my time on Armageddon when I can make money.”
Danny beamed. “That’s the spirit! Do you want me to come over to exorcise the voices in your head? They’re probably like… ghosts or something, right?”
“Nah, it’s alright. Jazz is going to come over to help. And if it’s insanity from drinking Gotham water, then she’s definitely more qualified than you guys.”
Danny nodded. “Makes sense.”
Sam chuckled to herself. “Who knew that the world could be saved with a billionaire’s money? Oh, wait, I did because—!”
Both boys groaned and settled in for another rant about the ethics of billionaires. Not that they disagreed, but still.
