When Stef Met 'Lena

<previous> | PART 4

One week later

Elena felt empty inside, the whole in her heart ached deeply. She regretted her decision, she kept thinking of all the what ifs. What if she did that, what if she did this. She couldn't stop thinking about it all. She couldn't stop thinking about how she regretted it with every bone in her body. His voice echoed in her head “Okay, okay. I can completely understand how you feel and why you feel that way. So, I guess, have a nice day ahead Ms. Gilbert.” Elena shook her head trying to push away the memory. She rubbed her temples, she was trying to get away from the haze she was in but to say the least that was not easy. She took a deep breath and positioned her computer chair around to get to work. She started by looking through the files for the meeting with Mrs.Branson next week. She studied each one carefully until she found the exact one she needed. But the file didn't want to come out. She stood up from her chair reaching for the bottom of the files but just as she reached all the files came flying out and landed on top of her. Causing her to lose her balance. She landed on her back with a thud.

She groaned as she tried to sit up, that was until she heard a familiar calming and warm voice. Stef. “Need some help?” Elena looked up to him, reaching his hand out. Elena layed there frozen from shock. “Well?” He raised his eyebrow. “Oh uh yeah…Thank You.” She took his hand as he pulled her up. 

"Is there anything else you need Ms.Gilbert?"

"Yes, actually I was wondering if we could talk?" Elena asked her eyes pleaded with him desperately. 

"Sure, right this way Ms.Gilbert." Stefan wasn't what to make of this. He didn't know what to believe. But at the same time he couldn't help but feel hope break through his heart as he heard 'Lena utters those words. But he also wanted to protect his heart which is why he was exceedingly formal. Stefan moved to the side, pointing her towards the elevator. 

They both moved in the elevator. They both simultaneously reach for the button but just as they both reach out they touch each others hands. They both look up at one another and stare deeply in each other's eyes. And then they both look down in embarrassment, both of they're cheeks turn rose red. But then their eyes meet again, Elena's eyes showed sorrow, remorse, and most of all regret "I'm sorry." She whispered. Stefan eyes showed happiness, forgiveness, but most of all love. "Why are you sorry?" "Because I rejected the only person I've ever loved because I was scared." A smile curved on his face as he stepped closer to her. Elena continued her rant "And I can't believe how incredibly stupid-" Stefan placed his pointer finger on her soft lips trying to vanquish her worries. He muttered this softly, "Shhh, it's okay 'Lena." He cupped her face, trying to comfort her. "I forgive you it's okay." Her eyes lit up as Stefan confessed this. They both giggled at one another, "So does this mean I can kiss you now? You don't care right?"

"Oh you most definitely can. Who cares about what others will say!" 

Elena wrapped her arm around Stefan and he cupped her face. "Good." Stefan smiled as he leaned in slowly and ever so carefully. When they're lips brushed it felt soft and warm. It felt perfect, wonderful, everything you could wish for. But it wasn't just what you wished for it also felt perfectly right. Like after all this time the right pieces finally found its missing piece.

Summary - kai relives the first time that the two of you find common ground, and bonnie uncovers there is an unexpected enemy in the ranks of cade (1.1k)

He had shut his eyes and there she was before him, a memory, but somehow she was real. Kai could feel her hand as she stroked his face, how his ears reacted to her voice. The heretic had been shocked, but this was not a sick game, it had been real, too real, and he felt a sense of hope for the first time on his life.

He was seated in his own personal hell, a ticking smile on his lips as he thought of his previous visitor, and I know what you may be thinking; it was not Bonnie Bennet. She was here before him, interrogating him but he could only utter a breathy and deep laugh of amusement, finding hilarity in all of the problems that the mystic fall gang were facing, and as their last resort they had come to him. It was amusing really, to think that he would ever help them after all of the battles they had exchanged, and seemingly Kai had lost, which was why Bonnie couldn’t place why Kai was smiling as though he had won against them.

“Tell me what you know Kai.” Bonnie pursued, hungry for the information that looped around his cracked mind, but he could only shake his unruly head as he rested in the arms of the unbreakable chains. “Kai!” Her continuation hadn’t persuaded him any further, but he knew that eventually he would allow the truth to slip so that he could witness the horror drown her hardened and frowning face.

“You really must be desperate Bon Bon if you’re here instead of out in the real world. It’s quite peaceful here if you counteract the fact that I’m unable to stand up and that terrible song that keeps repeating. And to think this is my hell… we’ll it’s not that bad if you can’t keep her away…”

Bonnie’s head tilted as she dared to step closer to the sociopath that had endlessly aggravated them and tormented every good thing that had blossomed after she escaped from the substitute for the other side. “Her… who are you talking about Kai?”

“Oh that’s right, you don’t know she’s back yet. Oops. Maybe you want to figure out who she is first before you get ready to fight against her whilst you’ve already got this Cade issue on your hands. She already sees you as her enemy, after all you put her through.” His eyebrow quirked as he momentarily thought that the witch would catch on, however he made that assumption too soon as she continued to stoically frown at him. “You didn’t even look for her after she sacrificed herself for you and your little friends, you’d brought plenty of people back when they died, but apparently she wasn’t important enough to you for you to do that for her. And then you screwed her over again when we all finally got out of that prison world.”

He was angry with her, the girl that he had first met in the prison world had never deserved such treatment. She had been a good person, until they had made her the villain. “Y/n…” Bonnie whispered, eyes bulging out of her head at the realisation. “But how?”

“At least you got something right Bon Bon, I was doubting that brain of yours for a second. But if you want to know how she’s alive and we’ll know, you’re going to have to remember the whole story..”

In the 1994 Prison World

“Kai, why are you being so nice to me?” You asked him as you stood still during the dance, tilting your head at his unusual behaviour. “And why did you follow me here, I thought we had a deal.” Your voice became stern as you loosened your arms around his neck, frowning at the way Kai lightly smiled. He had been acting strange, well stranger than usual, and

“Technically that deal was unfinished, I’m still holding out for the rest but, not right now.” Kai’s hands softened on your waist as he could not help but look softly into your eyes. “Do you see why I kept you away from Bonnie and Damon? It was only a matter of time until they hurt you again, and I knew from the first time that I saw you that you had the look of someone that had been betrayed by the ones you held dearest. It’s the same way I’d look in the mirror every morning after my father hit me, or my sister Jo told me she wish she’d had a different twin. I know how you feel, and I just wanted you to know that I’d never treat you like that. In this place, I’m the only person that you can trust.”

“Kai…” you ushered, about to continue your words until Kai placed his finger on your lip, stopping you from doing so.

“Don’t say anything. I just want you to know that I’m here, and when we get out I’m going to protect you from the ones that were willing to let your memory rot and get on with their lives.” He spat out, anger burning his chest as he thought of all the criminals he had yet to meet. He couldn’t understand why anyone would allow you to be the most selfless person in their world yet wouldn’t return the favour for you.

“We’re getting out?” You were shocked by his words, your voice coming out as a faint whisper, but he was close enough to you so that he could hear it. A smile wrangled his face as he leant closer to you, allowing your breath to mingle with his own.

“Oh we are, now that your friend Bonnie’s here, we can use her magic. And then we’ll be home free, there won’t be a lack of life unless we cause it. I won’t let anyone hurt you again y/n…. You’re the only friend I’ve ever truly had, and so I won’t treat you the way they did. I promise.” He held out his pinky finger, and without resilience this time, you wrapped your own around his, smiling up at him through your lashes.

“That means a lot Kai.” You said as you thought of all the empty promises your friends had made to you. “So how are we going to convince Bonnie to create a veil through this world to the real one and bring us with her?”

“Oh I wouldn’t worry about that gorgeous, I have some things in mind.” He shot you a wink before slipping out of your grasp, walking towards the door of the grill, but not before glancing back at you. “Are you not joining me pretty, we’ve got some things to get in order.”

"Wife? Seriously!?"

Damon groaned as he rolled to the side. His eyes flickered over to Katherine, who was on the ground with many vervain burns all over her, her legs had two piles right through them. Damon rolled his eyes, getting up. He used his super speed as he grabbed her and sped away. He sped all the way back to the Salvatore boarding house. He placed her on the couch. She groaned loudly catching the attention of the others in the house. "What the hell happened?" Asked Stefan, as he regarded the woman bleeding on the couch.

"Damn hunters." Damon muttered.

Turning around he pulled out his phone, a knowing smirk on his face. He pressed the number he wanted to call.

"Damon. Don't. You. Dare!" Katherine grumbled. Damon grinned when you answered the phone.

"Yeah she's hurt."

You sigh. "I told her to keep out of the way! Goddamn it. I'm on my way." You mutter.

It took you less than ten minuets to get there. Getting out your car you slammed the door shut and stormed your way into the house.

"Katerina Petrova, kakvo, po dyavolite, ti kazakh?!" (What the hell did I tell you) She looked as white as a ghost, you could see the fear in her gaze widened as she and everyone else turned to you, throwing your hair over your shoulder you glanced at Damon shooting him a deadly glare. "And you!" you turned to Damon, you poked your finger into his chest. "You were supposed to keep her safe!" You snapped.

"Skŭpa, molya te, ne kreshti na men ili na nego." (Sweetheart, please don't yell at me or him)

You turned your deadly glare back to her. "What the hell happened?!" you asked walking over to her. She still had metal rods in her legs. You gasped softy. You grimaced. "This is going to hurt." You muttered, gripping them. You pulled them both out, she screamed out in pain, and your heart stammered at the sound. "I'm sorry baby," you whispered. You glanced at Damon glaring at him as you threw them in his direction. He smirked, rolling his eyes.

He said nothing as you cupped Katherine's face, a scared look in your eyes. She gave you a soft smile before leaning in. She pressed her lips to yours, your pulse quickened and your stomach exploded in nervous butterflies. You had kissed her before, but every time you kissed her your heart always exploded with love. She pulled back when air was needed and rested her head on yours.

"I love you." She whispered. You flushed, biting your lips softly.

"I love you too ti si moeto sŭrtse." (You're my heart)

You glanced back up at the group. They were all staring at you in shock. "Stop staring at my wife, you're making her nervous." Kathrine snapped. Elena stared at you with her mouth open. You studied her. The resemblance is really uncanny. "Hi, sorry. I didn't mean to be rude by not introducing myself. I'm Y/n Pierce." You say smiling. They all continue to stare. You glance at Damon, still glaring at him. "Water?"

"Kitchen." He replied with a smirk. You left to go and grab a drink.

"Wife? Seriously!?" Caroline gushed.

"She's human." Commented Bonnie..

"Well, I guess now we all know the great Katherine Pierce weakness." Stefan muttered. Katherine's whole demeanour shifted as she grabbed Stefan and slammed him against the wall, her hand around his neck.

"You touch a hair on her head and I will rip you apart," she sneered her fangs on full display as she hisses at him. "That goes for all of you!" She snapped as you walked back into the room. You gave your wife a flat look.

"Behave, darling," you say as she let Stefan go. "We've talked about this. You don't threaten people who are dumb enough to put up with you." You say with a smirk. She speeds in front of you, narrowing her eyes jokingly at you.

"You put up with me." She smirks.

"Barely." You quipped back, trying to fight down a grin. She pouts and you giggle, kissing her lips.

"I don't know why it works, but it really does." Stefan muttered with a smile. Katherine tucked your hair behind your ear. Her touch making your pulse quicken and your cheeks to flush.

"Wanna go home, my love?" she asked softly, and you nod.

"Yes, please." You say, shooting her a seductive look.

She shakes her head at you, smiling brightly before taking your hand. You smile and glance at the group. "It was lovely meeting you all. Except you, I find it very creepy that you have the same face as the woman I love, no offence. I'm sure you're lovely... it's just so-"

"Creepy?" she finishes with a chuckle. You giggled and nodded.

After bidding your goodbyes, you and Katherine left.

You arrived at the school and walked inside. You walked through the hallway heading to your locker when you saw something pinned on the bulletin board. It was a flyer for the annual Valentine's Day dance.

There was also a banner up since the dance was tonight. You honestly wanted to go but you had no one to go with. Damon had asked you to go with him but, you turned him down. Honestly, sometimes you could not stand that boy.

Plus you have had your eyes on Bonnie recently. She was so beautiful and kind. She was one of your best friends too. You had told Caroline and Elena about you feelings for Bonnie and they both said that you should go for it.

Elena said since the Valentine's Day dance was today that you should ask her to go to it. Caroline agreed with her. The last time you went to the Valentine's Day dance you were dating Tyler but, since then the two of you broke up.

Caroline said that Tyler was still into you and was planning on asking you to go again this year. If he did you knew you were going to reject him. He broke your heart, you didn't want to go through that pain again.

You went to your locker and unlocked it then grabbed your texts books out of your locker. As you were doing so Elena and Caroline walked over to you.

"Hey Y/N!" Elena said with a smile.

"Hi Elena, hey Care." You said smiling.

"So, did you ask Bonnie yet?" Elena asked.

"Well... no." You sighed.

"What? Why not?!" Caroline whined.

"What if she rejects me? What if she doesn't feel the same way?" You said with a frown. "After the heartbreak Tyler put me through I don't want to feel anything like that again." You said.

"I know Y/N but, Bonnie is not Tyler." Elena said.

"Yeah plus I was not going to tell you this but, I'm pretty sure Bonnie likes you." Caroline said with a smile.

"I- wait really?! Wait how do you know?" You asked.

"She came to me and Elena yesterday and asked if she should ask you to go to the Valentine's Day dance with her." Caroline said.

"And of course we said yes." Elena said.

"Wait are you guys serious?" You asked.

"Dead serious." Elena said. You smiled and bit your lip. Maybe Bonnie did feel the same way about you, or maybe she just wanted to go with you as friends? It was confusing in a way. Either way you would still go with her.

"Look! Here comes Bonnie now!" Caroline said.

"Quick, switch the conversation!" Elena said. The three of you quickly started talking about your History class when Bonnie walked over to the three of you. You looked over at Bonnie and smiled at her.

"Hey Bon." You said with a smile.

"Hi Y/N! Hey Elena, hi Caroline." Bonnie said. "Y/N, I actually have a question for you." She said. Elena and Caroline looked at each other and smiled, knowing what she was going to ask you.

"Okay, shoot." You said with a smile.

"Well, the Valentine's Day dance is tonight and well, I was wondering if maybe you would want to go to the dance with me?" Bonnie asked. You smiled widely. Elena and Caroline secretly high-fived quietly.

"Really? You want to go with me?" You asked smiling.

"Well yeah. You are so kind and pretty, I would've asked earlier but I was nervous." Bonnie said with a nervous chuckle.

"Well, I would love to go to the dance with you Bonnie." You said smiling. "And not gonna lie, I was wanting to ask you to this dance too." You said.

"Really?" Bonnie asked with a smile.

"Yeah.." You said smiling. Before Bonnie could say anything else, the bell rang,

"I have to get to class, I'll pick you up at 7?" Bonnie asked.

"Sounds good." You said with a smile. Bonnie nodded and then walked away and turned the corner going to her class. You looked back at Caroline and Elena with a goofy grin.

"I knew she liked you!" Caroline exclaimed.

"But this is great, now you two can go to the dance together!" Elena said.

"Yeah it is great but, I have to get to my class too, see you guys at lunch." You said and walked off.

You finished eating supper with your family and then went upstairs to get ready for the dance. Caroline had taken you dress shopping after school so you had an outfit for the dance. If it was not for Caroline, you would probably be panicking looking for something to wear.

You grabbed the dress out of the closet. It was a gorgeous dress and you could not wait for Bonnie to see you wearing it. You knew she would love it too. You were excited to see her dress too. You were sure she was going to look stunning.

You got the dress on and your mom came in and helped you with your hair and makeup. After your mom finished that she gave you a hug and then walked out of your room. You looked at yourself in the mirror and smiled. You were happy with your outfit.

You then sat down on your bed and grabbed your phone and your clutch. You scrolled on TikTok while you waited for Bonnie and then you got a notification. It was a message from Bonnie. You opened the notification. Bonnie said she was on her way.

Since she only lived 10 minutes away you put your phone in your clutch and got your heels on then went downstairs. You grabbed your red lacey mesh shawl and put it on your elbows. You said bye to your parents and then walked outside and waited for her.

Bonnie got there and it only took her a little over 5 minutes. She pulled into your driveway. You smiled and walked over to the car and then hopped in.

"Hey Bon! Thanks for driving me." You said with a smile.

"Hi Y/N. And no worries, I mean you are my date, I want you to have a good time." She said with a chuckle. You two talked and laughed on the way to the school. Once you both got there you both got out of the car.

You locked arms together and then walked into the dance together. Caroline and Elena saw you two and smiled then ran over. You chuckled and they both hugged you and Bonnie.

"Oh my god I'm so happy to see you both at the dance!" Elena said.

"Yeah me too! And oh my god Y/N, the dress we picked looks so good on you!" Caroline said.

"Thanks. I do love it." You said with a chuckle.

"And I love the dress we picked for you Bonnie." Elena said with a smile.

"Yeah, the dress is really pretty. You look gorgeous Bonnie." You said with a smile.

"Thanks. You look so gorgeous too Y/N." Bonnie said smiling.

"Well, we will leave you two alone so you can dance and have fun." Caroline said.

"Yeah, see you guys later!" Elena said with a smile and then Elena and Caroline walked off. You turned back to Bonnie with a smile. She smiled back at you.

"So, what do you want to do first?" You asked.

"We could dance." Bonnie said.

"Sure." You said smiling more. She smiled and led you out to the dance floor. A slow song came on so the two of you started to slow dance. Bonnie then decided to spin you, making you giggle. You the spun her. She giggled and smiled.

The two of you continued dancing and then at the end of the song everyone stopped dancing. You two stopped dancing but kept eye contact. Then without warning Bonnie leaned in and kissed you. You smiled into the kiss.

Caroline and Elena saw you and Bonnie kissing and clapped silently then high-fived. You pulled back and bit your lip smiling. Bonnie just giggled.

"So, I am guessing you feel the same way about me as I feel about you." You said with a giggle.

"Yeah.. I do. I have liked you for a while now." Bonnie said and her cheeks started to get red. You giggled when you saw her blushing.

"You're so cute when you blush." You said. Bonnie giggled and blushed more.

"Uhm.. thanks." She said with a smile. You giggled and then kissed Bonnie again. Bonnie smiled into the kiss. You had the best day. You got to go to the Valentine's Day dance with your crush and best friend Bonnie, and she kissed you and you found out she felt the same way as you.

Another slow song came on and the two of you began to slow dance again. You didn't want this moment to end. You would always remember this moment forever.

“Now this looks perfect.” Caroline clapped her hands together, she felt proud of what Elena, and she had accomplished.

“Caroline, you do realize that you’re saying this for the fifth time, right?” asked Elena.

“I know, I know, I’m sorry. But this time’s for sure. This is exactly what we want. Would you mind going through the checklist for the fourth time?” said Caroline with a pretty please face that she knew Elena couldn’t resist.

Both of the most hard-working and dedicated employees of The Salvatore Industries worked day and night to bring this event into place. They loved the scene in front of them. A big hall specially booked for the ‘Salvatore Industries Annual Corporate Event’.

The hall was decorated with every shade of white flowers, with round tables arranged flawlessly in front of the main stage. It was the first time that Elena had a chance to organize this big of an event and it was crucial for her job. Caroline and she made a good team together, Caroline kept everything in check and Elena helped with new innovative ideas. The event was about to start in a couple of hours, and they were equally nervous as well as excited about it.

The moment of truth finally came, their esteemed guests started arriving and the duo greeted them with their sheer hospitality. For the important evening, Elena decided to wear a black dress that stopped right before her knees, it was a lacey bodycon dress, and her hair was tied in a fishtail braid, to compliment her outfit she wore a pair of black heels. Caroline on the other hand wore a golden slit bodycon dress with her hair side parted and a pair of black footwear to complete her outfit.

The nervousness was taken over by the emotion of excitement as they could the event falling into place, they both felt delighted at the sight in front of them. The Salvatore brothers finally made an appearance, both of them were dressed in a tuxedo. Sure, both of them looked equally handsome but Elena couldn’t take her eyes off the green-eyed Salvatore.

Stefan looked classy, elegant, sleek, and attractive in a way. Perhaps it was wrong on Elena’s part to think of her boss in that way, but the man was so fine that it was close to impossible to not have a good stare. While Elena was lost in her thoughts, she forgot that her Boss was approaching her, she abruptly turned her back towards him pretending to be busy, and she heard the man say,

“I am not used to scaring people away.”

Elena let out a sigh realizing that her act had been caught, she closed her eyes for a second and then turned towards Stefan. “People are uncomfortable around Salvatores in tuxes,” she replied with a subtle smile.

“Good evening, Mr. Salvatore,” she greeted her boss.

“Good evening, ‘Lena,” Stefan smiled at her.

All the guests arrived on time and were seated in their allotted seats, Damon and Stefan greeted the crowd which was followed by an award distribution ceremony conducted to appreciate the hard-working employees of The Salvatore Industries. After the award distribution, the stage was taken up by the band specially invited to grace the event.

The energy in the room was aesthetically pleasing. The dim lights with some live music in the background set the mood just right. All the employees and clients interacted with each other while enjoying their drinks and other delicacies served to them.

Elena had to use the restroom, so she proceeded toward the ladies’ room but was stopped by the familiar noises from the alley.

“Why don’t you understand Stefan? This is important for our company. And I don’t care if you are with me on this one or not. With or without you, I’m signing this deal anyway.”

“You know you cannot do that Damon. We equally own the company shares and you can’t do anything without my consent. And we cannot turn our back on one of the oldest and the most important clients just because they are having a hard time. If you take up that deal, it might jeopardize our existing relationship.”

“Well, sometimes Stefan it’s better to let go,” yelled Damon and walked back to the party. Meanwhile, Stefan just stood there in anguish. The relationship between the brothers has never been smooth but Stefan had hoped that one day it would change, but each time he has met nothing but disappointment.

Elena realized that she was eavesdropping, and she had the urge to go and comfort Stefan but then she decided against it and joined back the party.

She saw Caroline wave at her as she waited for her with two glasses of champagne. Elena waved back at her and faked a smile. She took one of the glasses from Caroline and took a sip from it. “Isn’t it a wonderful evening? Cheers to us for making this happen,” grinned Caroline.

“Yes, it sure is Caroline,” Elena smiled subtly.

Elena was still lost in her thoughts; she knew how important that client was to Stefan. They were Stefan’s first-ever clients, and she knew how loyal Stefan was toward each of his clients he couldn’t stand the thought of signing a deal behind their backs. Damon was certainly wrong in this situation, but she knew it wasn’t her place to say anything, after all, she was just a receptionist.

Elena took out her phone to check the time and her phone screen suggested 11:03 pm. Caroline and Elena had wrapped up the event and fortunately, everything went as planned. But Stefan didn’t make an appearance after greeting the crown earlier that evening. Elena wondered where he was and was genuinely worried about him.

“I guess it’s time to go,” said Caroline but didn’t hear a response from Elena, “Elena?” she repeated.

“Yes, Caroline. I’m listening.”

“Well then let’s get going, it’s pretty late.”

“You know what Caroline, I think I should do some last-minute checks, you can go. I’ll take a cab home,” Elena suggested.

“Are you sure?” asked Caroline.

“Yes Caroline, I am sure. Goodnight, and have a good weekend,” reassured Elena.

“Goodnight Elena.”

Elena decided to take a look around the hall hoping to find Stefan somewhere. She looked everywhere but the bar and thought, ' Maybe he left for home’. Her thoughts were interrupted by the voice of glass clanking against the floor. She realized that the noise came from the bar and decided to check it out.

To her surprise she found Stefan sitting on the floor…drunk. The surprise was not to find her boss there but to find him in such a miserable condition. Instinctively she decided to help him.

“Mr. Salvatore? Is everything all right? Let me call a cab for you.”

As Elena stood up to call a cab, she felt her hand being held by Stefan, he grabbed her hand and asked her, “Please sit with me Elena, will you?”

Elena knew that it was not the right thing to do, she could not repeat the same mistake as earlier. She did not want to live with the same regret yet again. But at the same time, she couldn’t deny him, not when he was drunk, miserable, and vulnerable. Elena decided to give her boss some company because it was her job to look after him. She sat beside him resting her back against the wall and placed her hand on Stefan’s shoulder to assure him that he wasn’t alone. Stefan gently held her hand and squeezed it once as a gesture to say, ‘Thank you’.

They both sat in silence, but this silence was not awkward at all. This silence was intimate and understanding. Elena was fighting with her feelings and finding the difference between professional courtesy and genuine care for someone. That someone was Stefan. She sure cared about him, she was Elena, and she cared about everyone, but she knew the way she cared about Stefan was…different.

“Come on Mr. Salvatore, let’s get you home. It’s almost midnight,” demanded Elena. She hated to demand her boss like that, but someone had to take charge as Stefan was acting like a stubborn little boy.

Elena helped Stefan to stand up on his feet, but it was difficult for him to maintain his balance, so Elena wrapped one of his arms around her shoulders and held him by his waist to make sure he didn’t trip. It wasn’t easy for her to carry him to the cab as he was taller and stronger than her, but somehow, she managed.

At first, she thought of leaving Stefan alone in the cab but something inside of her told her that it wasn’t right. She had to make sure that Stefan reached home safely so she accompanied him to his home.

They reached Stefan’s place. Stefan lived in a luxury apartment that gave a perfect view of the serene city lights from the living room. Everything was neat. Elena could see that Stefan was an organized person. But this wasn’t the time to appreciate the interiors of Stefan’s apartment, she had more important things to take care of.

Stefan directed Elena toward his bedroom, and she helped him walk to his bedroom. Gently Elena helped Stefan sit on his bed, “I’ll get some water for you, Mr. Salvatore.” Stefan simply nodded while rubbing his temples firmly.

When Elena came back with a glass of water in her hands, she just stood there at the doorframe to admire the sight in front of her, Stefan lay down on his bed and was almost asleep. He looked so innocent and calm. All Elena wanted to do was admire him with awe. She slowly walked inside the room and placed the glass of water on his nightstand.

“‘Lena?” she heard Stefan call her.

“Yes, Mr. Salvatore.” She leaned in closer to him and sat on the edge of his bed to hear him.

Stefan’s hand searched for Elena’s hand, as he felt her hands in his he held onto them tightly and looked deep into Elena’s eyes, “I wanted to say something to you for a while now ‘Lena, I think I love you.”

Elena’s mind went blank at those words, a part of her wished to disappear but a part of her wanted to cherish the moment. Who would not want to hear these words from such a fine man? So lovable and respectful. But Elena had to make decisions rationally. She had a job, and she could not risk losing it. ‘Maybe it’s just the drunk him speaking’ thought Elena to herself.

“I think you should get some sleep, Mr. Salvatore,” saying that Elena left his apartment and decided to have a talk with Stefan on Monday morning.

Elena reached her office earlier than usual on Monday morning, she was still in fix about last Friday night and hoped that Stefan only said those things because he was drunk. Elena was in a file room arranging some important files, she heard the door open and turned her attention in the direction of the door and found Stefan walking towards her.

“Um…morning Elena.”

“Good morning, Mr. Salvatore.” Elena turned her attention back to her work.

“Can we…talk?” asked Stefan.

“Yes, sure. What is it, Mr. Salvatore?”

“About how I confessed something to you, and you just left without acknowledging my feelings.”

Elena felt a lump forming in her throat. She thought that he wasn’t fully conscious when he said those words to her. But on the contrary, Stefan remembered everything. It scared her a little, she didn’t know how to react to this, she was blank, again.

“Elena? I’m talking to you?”

Elena tried to gather her thoughts and rip off the band-aid all at once.

“Yes, I’m listening, but there’s nothing to talk about Mr. Salvatore. You were drunk and I helped you. That’s it.” she replied.

“And thank you for taking care of me when I was not at my best. I am grateful for that ‘Lena. But I meant what I said and look I don’t expect an answer, but I want you to know that I was completely serious about what I said.”

Elena was at a loss for words, she didn’t know what to say, “I…don’t know how to react to that Mr. Salvatore. Our relationship is professional, and I do not wish to go against professional conduct and be involved with someone from work. I am sorry but I don’t have the same feelings for you as you do Mr. Salvatore.”

Stefan was not convinced by Elena’s words, he asked, “No that’s not it. I know you have felt it too Elena. There is some other reason…”

“I don’t…” Elena cut him off and Stefan raised his eyebrow in question.

Stefan’s face had a hint of disappointment and hurt. He expected a lot of different reactions on Elena’s part, but this was beyond expectation. He did not want to believe the words he heard, he still wanted to believe in his feelings, but it was also true that he did not have any option.

“Okay, okay. I can completely understand how you feel and why you feel that way. So, I guess, have a nice day ahead Ms. Gilbert.”

“You too Mr. Salvatore.”

With that, Stefan left the room and Elena just stood there in her spot, she was not the kind of person to hurt someone intentionally, she was compassionate and empathetic. But she knew this was the right thing to do, she knew it was an important decision.

The deal was simple, you would help Damon open the tomb and he would give you a vial of doppelganger blood. Of course you could easily get it yourself, but Damon has met you for too long and knew that it was best to set terms now than owe you.

Mystic Falls was boring, almost trapped in time. You would have to find a Bennet while Damon deals with family business, but at least the city has a bar.

The first time you saw Katherine was on your third day at the bar. You had already confirmed Bonnie's lineage and Damon decided to have a crush.

Katherine knew you, many did, you were smart enough to control the rumors running around, making them all picture you more dangerous than you truly are. Yes, you were a powerful witch, but nothing out of the ordinary, however the people didn't need to know that, their fear alone was enough to win anything.

At first, Katherine considered leaving, but she was intrigued by you, after all these years and she has yet to meet the Mikaelson's rival. So, she ordered a drink, sat in front of you at the corner table and simply stared with an arched eyebrow.

You smirked, being amused by her brave appearance. "Oh my, Damon is gonna be very disappointed when he doesn't see you on the tomb." You said, faking a pout.

She chuckled. "Unfortunately, I had a very tragic death. Did you not hear it?"

You leaned back. "So, what do you need?"

She took a sip of her drink before speaking. "Primarily, I want to kill Elena, but it's quite annoying with Stefan hanging around."

You place your hand in your chin, seriously looking at her. "And what do I get?"

Katherine smirked. "What do you need?"

You smiled. "You."

You dealt with Stefan, as promised. It was relatively easy, thankfully the Bennet was still learning magic, you've fought one of them once and it wasn't pretty. Damon was angry but it will pass…you think. Elena was beautifully dead and Katherine was happily torturing every inhabitant of the city. The vampire also kept her promised, finding it funny when all you truly asked was a vial of her blood and Elena's.

You stayed in town a while, watching her traumatize some humans, but eventually it got repetitive, so you chose to leave. Therefore, you invited the vampire for a movie night, picking Twilight mainly to anger her. It was around the second movie when she called for your attention.

Her face was still emotionless, fully staring at the projector. "Why are you leaving?"

You turned your face to see her. "There's nothing for me here."

She furrowed her eyebrows. "But I'm here."

You gave her a gentle smile. "Maybe I was planning to invite you…to travel with me."

Katherine turned to look at you. "Why would I do that? I have everything I've wanted here."

You shrugged. "I want you to live with me, not survive, live."

She smirked. "Is it deal?"

You laughed. "It's a deal."

She left with you, managed to make peace with Klaus, since he owned you one, and lived. She wasn't just a survivor anymore, now when someone would tell her story, she was always with you, it was the deal.
