BSD Wan is crazy because it's all fun and games and then out of nowhere they hit you with this

The fireworks festival happened at night. And the ED takes place during sunrise (or sunset) until evening, which means it's the next day. This implies that atsushi was sitting there for an entire day. Atsushi is incredibly saddened by losing people he cares about, and he knows that Dazai's suicidal tendencies is not something he can protect him from, unlike other threats. And no one knows how he feels because he probably doesn't want to burden them with it so he keeps his distance until he can compose himself enough to keep going.
