Notes:

We are leaning hard into the 80's here! None of that trying to modernize StEx they've been doing since the 90's. It doesn't work, and the hyper-80's...ness is one of the best things about StEx!

This is about 60% the 1984 original, so keep that in mind.

Dinah & Greaseball look most like the original Dinah and Greaseball. (Though Dinah's hair looks like this. I'll get to her costumes below.) Greaseball looks completely like Jeff Shankley's GB.

Most of the costumes look like the Broadway versions.

However, Pearl gets 3 costumes; her pants outfit from the '84 previews (but with white pants), followed by her sleek Broadway dress outfit (w/ Electra), and then the fluffy dress outfit (w/ GB).

Dinah has 2 costumes; the first one being more Broadway (but I dislike the leggings, so different ones), and then, when she pairs with Electra, she changes to and outfit that is similar to her OG outfit.

C.B.'s look is very similar to the original, except his pants are black, and he has his later hat.

I want some of the choreography from the '83 workshop. ( x x x x )

Dinah & Greaseball banter a bit because "Incapable of feeding yourself, Greaseball?" Ohhh *chef's kiss* 2017 London Workshop did something right!

*Dinah & Greaseball get a couple's duet. It's a fun, cute, rock/80's pop mix song that touches on their love for each other and how they don't care about others' bullshit. ("Our Lips Are Sealed" kind of vibes, I suppose.)

Ashley and Duvay are sisters.

Greaseball pulls the girls during "Freight," like he originally did.

*Dinah gets a solo after "Pumping Iron" after the Sleepers talk their bullshit. It'd be about 3½ minutes long. If you've read my Dinah rants, you can get an idea of what it's about.

Greaseball, Bobo, and Espresso are part of the choreography during "Crazy" toward the end, racing around with Dinah, Ashley, and Buffy. (I promise this is FIRE in my head. Have faith. 🥺)

*Grease & Dinah have a longer argument before their breakup.

Dinah and C.B. have a duet. It's the Broadway version of There's Me combined with That's Me. (Dinah singing her solo part first.)

Pearl is absolutely like original Pearl in this: A selfish bitch (who learns and gets better by the end); she is not "naive." ("Further from my vision" over "Sadder but no wiser.")

We actually acknowledge that Pearl is an asshole. But, like Greaseball, she learns and is working on herself by the end! 🙌🏽

Pearl apologizes to Dinah at the end. FINALLY. (During a break in LATEOTT.)

Control loves the trains/coaches/freight, and they love him. He's just a bossy little kid, but they're also actin' up. (I'm open to Control being a girl.)

Megyn Kelly Gets BLASTED After Racist Attack On DNC Speaker.

Prominent conservative host Megyn Kelly just launched an incredibly offensive and racist attack against the Democratic senator who spoke at the DNC — but it immediately blew up in her face!

During the Democratic Convention Kelly posted this on Twitter L. Butler speaking she filled Feinstein's seat celebrating that she and Harris both graduated from historically black colleges.

Imagine the white person up there I'm proud to tell you I went to a mostly white University so now here's Megan Kelly a former Fox News host so desperate for media attention that she basically just said why is there a black history month and not a white History Month.

Kelly was slammed by The Nation columnist Kaylee Holloway who wrote why historically did black people have to create their own institutions Megan

The Bullworks Tim Miller expanded on that posting Was there a period of time where white people were denied College access so they needed to create alternative institutions to combat systematic oppression? No ? maybe that explains the difference.

But the best response came from the election columnist for the cut Laura Basset who seemed to be channeling all those Catholic Educators from years ago when she wrote I beg you to read a history book any normal American history book to understand the difference.

Frankly I don't really care if Megan Kelly is really that ignorant or if she's just pandering to that segment of Americans who honestly believe their opportunity for Economic Security was taken from them and handed to minorities now that makes you have to ignore the way in which wealth and opportunity in this country flows to the top and devastates the working middle class no matter what your race but Kelly plays into this myth of minorities getting over while whites are left behind and that makes her nothing more than a modern-day media Plantation owner she actually advances her own position from the continued marginalization and downright oppression of people of color although these days is she really advancing I think it's not so you know maybe there is hope

Unfinished WIP

Hi all. So a while back I had plans for a fic comprised of standalone scenes strung together, akin to Ampersands a bit, taking place across different months and years. It was “a history of Murdoc in knickers,” or a look at how his relationship to wearing knickers (and gendered clothing overall) began, and his tumultuous inter-band relationships seen through that lens, before and including Stu.

At this point, it seems unlikely I’ll ever go back and finish it. I’m sorry for that, I wish I could keep the motivation and momentum going, but... barring an exciting comeback phase with Gorillaz that makes this content feel a bit more relevant, I just can’t help but imagine we’ve reached the end of something.

I’ve still got a little flame in my heart so I’m not exactly putting it out to pasture, but I thought, in case it never happens-- maybe you might like the beginning? Alright, enough chatter, sorry this is clunky and unedited!

The first time is a joke. There’s halogen heat on his skin, and gin-rancid men shouting slurs from the edge of frame, and a paste of speed and sweat under the nail on his waving middle finger. The stage is small, it’s nothing, it’s a treestump in swampland swallowing schoolboys’ shoes and breeding tetanus in return, but it doesn’t feel it. In satin he feels like he’s finding the sun.

He’s wearing knickers. And it’s a joke.

The music scene in Stoke is incredibly dull and borderline incestuous, exchanging members from one drain-circling pub rock outfit to the next, every Gary and Marvin swapping caps and guitars until the lineup works its way back ‘round again. It’s enough thrill for them, the endless circling, but Murdoc isn’t compelled by a closed course. Thank fuck there are thousand-watt bulbs among the duds, sloe-eyed boys with teeth enough to push up front and smoke-smelling riot girls, all of them spitting sparks and catching onstage. It’s hell to know one, but a fire gives off light, at least.

He knows this better than most, because Murdoc catches like a tinderbox. Patchouli Clark had flamed out in miserable mockery, his comp tab revoked when it became clear he well outdrank the old cunts throwing bottles at the stage to stop his wailing. His voice is raw and tuneless, less Dylan and Waits than it is a peeling of metal from metal, a sort of aural demolition in progress. Having a habit makes it all the worse, words piling up behind the tongue scraping his gums; if he’s even brought his bass, his playing is erratic and stop-start, metered by the squeals of amp feedback. On a manic night, he splits the skin of his eyelid around the mic stand when he beckons an angry punter onstage and two more follow. There’s blood caked from his brow to the fold of his nostrils, so the air smells sickly of Buckfast and coins when they drag him out. His left eye never really matches the right again after.

Bullworker is the same, only it overlaps with another in between that he can’t even remember the name of. The writing is on the wall again. By now he knows the message well. Maybe it’s simpler when the poet is pretty, when they’re gold-throated and gracious. Maybe it’s the reason the stage was built.

The audience loves you, and you love them for loving you. Love that sees you cloaked in light. Love that never knows the dark.

The audience hates him. The kick is that he likes that, really. He didn’t walk to school with raw, red-sticky heels from his brother’s castoff shoes because people liked him; he didn’t break his nose, knuckles, two ribs and a collarbone before semester’s end because people liked him; he didn’t trade a darling yellow knapsack of stolen medication for a blanket and a spot by the radiator because people liked him. He’s here because he knows that having is born of taking. Murdoc has the audience– when he pulls the mic stand between his knees, presses it hard to his groin as he brays and feels another voyeur wince, he gets what he came for.

Gorillaz lore, told a little differently.

part one - D-DAY

content warnings: graphic description of violence, satanism mentioned, blood.

summary: august 15th, 1997. d-day. murdoc and 2D's first interaction.

Sat on the couch of his fathers sweet, sickly sweet, humble abode was Murdoc Niccals, after being forced for many years of his childhood to be on stage, his passion (or at least the only thing he really knew how to do) had become music. 

After signing a deal with Satan, from a ‘Satanism: For Beginners’ kit off his brother, Murdoc had received a red silky coloured bass guitar, appropriately named ‘El Diablo’ and a lengthy, chunky upside down cross necklace. The deal? Create a band to take the entire world by storm. No need for any other words, Murdoc knew this was his fate, what he wanted. What he needed. And surely, it would make his father proud. Or at least a tad bit sweeter.

Once he’d signed this deal however, the plan didn’t go as smoothly as first suspected. Murdoc had tried many times to hit the ground running. He made bands such as ‘Patchouli Clark’ which out of them all seemed to be the biggest fail. Not one audience member in pub gigs. Others like ‘Kiss N Makeup’, ‘Bullworker’ and ‘The Stupid Name Gang’ were more popular by three or four people, including bartenders, yet all failed due to the lack of listeners (or patience for his bandmates). This had Murdoc wondering. What about his band made them fail so hard?

Murdoc soon came to a conclusion that perhaps it was his fault. His high-pitched, screeching was less appealing than when he was a child, it was the era of pop and punk after all. Not black and heavy metal. 

Throwing a small handmade ball of rubber bands up and down, Murdoc decided he needed to take action. Instead of being the bassist and vocalist, he could just be one, and since El Diablo had been gifted to him by his almighty superior, he came to the decision of letting another become the frontman, although he would still be band leader, of course.

Grabbing the keys of his 1985 Vauxhall Astra, Murdoc ran out the front door, carefully closing it so as to not make so much of a noise to alert his sleeping relatives. This all was for nothing, as after he had practically jumped into the driver's seat of the car, slammed the door and started it up, pressing his foot all the way to the floor. With 14 years of driving experience, Murdoc narrowly avoided curbs on his cornerings and was never really caught out with speeding. Probably due to the fact he’d been in trouble for DUI’s when he was instead. 

Turning the corner into a small retail park, Murdoc didn’t slow down, yet only sent his car flying through the side window of ‘Uncle Norm’s Organ Emporium’. The sound of shattering glass filled Murdoc’s ears, leaving the man to pull his hands back from the steering wheel and scrunch up his face, bracing for impact. The car came to a sudden stop, front lifted off the ground. Murdoc reluctantly opened his eyes, looking as he silently celebrated the success of his placement, rudely interrupted by his airbag hitting him in the face, cracking his already weirdly shaped nose.

‘Bit delayed’, he thought, opening his door and swinging his legs out. When he looked down at his feet, a gorey sight was there waiting. Murdoc felt a bit of vomit come up to his chest as he gagged. A young man with half blue, half red hair was below him, one eye closed yet one he couldn’t figure out whether it was blackened or he had no eyeballs at all. Another man, who looked to be the manager, rushed up to the man on the floor, sitting him up and shaking him.

“Stuart?” The manager spoke through a panicked tone, looking up at Murdoc who was frozen in his spot. He’d never even knocked someone out before, let alone kill a person!

When Murdoc realised that everyone had been staring at him, he hopped out of the seat, only to be alerted by the sound of the front door of the shop slamming open, police officers yelling at him to put his hands up before running toward his and pushing Murdoc up against the cold metal of the car. From where he was, he could see the blood splat on the corner of his car light.

‘Bullseye.’ The man disgustingly thought before he was being shoved out of the shop and into a police car.

Hi! Hope I'm using this right, haven't really used this lol. Question: can you tell us about ways your world's geography has shaped it's people and politics?

M: Oh, that's a fun one to answer!

M: First, my home, the United Islands.

M: The peninsula is protected by a mountain range and a desert and the waters are hostile to those not skilled with ships. This meant the nine islands and the peninsula were left to grow relatively undisturbed, except by each other, to which there was a lot of cultural mixing and trade.

So, my homeland is essentially 10 former kingdoms united under one banner.

We're an agriculture and trade power, with a specialty in goods like wine, oil, wool, and especially salt. With some of the best sailors in the world.

M: Next, the Jungle of Flowers to the northwest.

M: They're culture developed in a lush jungle clinging to the coast, backed by a mighty inland sea.

From my understanding, certain common infections cause low birth rate, which allowed women to claim power as the ones who can give birth, thus forming a matriarchal monarchy.

Their tropical climate makes them our main source of rare fruits and woods, as well as leather and furs. They also conflict a lot with smaller kingdoms and tribes to the west for access to the coast and ports.

M: The Twin Kingdoms are also interesting.

M: They're mostly isolated to the far northwest, on a frigid island with very few large land predators. The narrow stretch of land used to mark the border between two kingdoms, the Highlands and the Lowlands. They united under one king in the last 200 years or so to be more assertive in global trade, but the tension between the two groups were… palpable when I was there.

They're predominantly herdsman and fishermen, and they mostly serve as a stop between the Jungle of Flowers and the north east

M: The Golden River is actually where my husband's family is from.

M: They live in the desert, who built their living around the mouth of what I believe the largest river in the world. They're actually a lot of smaller kingdoms who all answer to a single religious leader, who's temple sits at the mouth of the river spilling out in the ocean.

They don't actually take money like most other places I've visted, being mostly trade based, and water being the signifier of wealth. However, they sit on a seemingly endless network of gold mines that they happily trade the rest of the world for, along with beautiful glassworks.

All of the kingdoms are in conflict with each other to some degree, all trying to get more sway over water sources and to become the next leader.

M: The Volcanic Steppe was one of the strangest places I visited.

M: They're lands consist of two islands, the western one consisting of very fertile farming land, a mountain range, and a massive volcano. The eastern island has two more groups, the nomadic herders of the steppe, and the mercantile bullwork on the southern coast. The three groups seem to be in a sort of symbiotic relationship to each other, although none seem to trust the other too much.

They don't have much in terms of a centralized government, with the two sedentary societies communicating with each other mutually, and the steppe people electing a kind of king among all of the nomadic tribes' chiefs. This king communicates with the other two societies.

They seem mostly interested in selling their magnificent horses, along with animal fats, leather, and volcanic glass.

M: The Silken Delta was the last place I lived in long term before coming home.

M: They live on a smaller peninsula, consistently rich with fertile soil from the many rivers and deltas flooding and receding every year. They're a confederation of states, separated by rivers, with each state sending a representative to their central council at the tip of the peninsula.

They actually recently finished, and won, a major war with a mountain kingdom to the north, and they're enjoying the spoils. They're hungry to get back in the market, as I think they see the United Islands and economic rivals. Their cloth is something to die for, as are their spices and herbs.

M: I can go into much more detail on any of these lands if you have any follow up questions, but that's the overview.
