i (17m) don’t have many irl friends (mainly bc. autism.) but there is one person, ‘alex’ (15m) i currently consider my best friend irl. he has another friend, ‘jay’ (16m) who i used to consider myself friends with. important context: we’re all trans.

jay has said a few things to me that made me end the friendship with him.

first, i’m gay. a while ago (before i realized i was a guy) i used to think i was lesbian. i mentioned this in passing to him once bc i thought it was kinda funny, and he made a weird comment about how ‘some people just don’t want to be straight’ that came off like he thought i was pretending to be gay? (tbc i very much Am gay, i literally have a boyfriend)

second, mcr is my and alex’s favorite band. every time i bring them up in conversation (which i do a Lot bc. again. autism) he makes ‘jokes’ about it being stereotypical trans music and me being a stereotype

third, i dye my hair bright colors fairly often. he’s made multiple jokes about me having ‘stereotypical trans hair’ and when i had a mullet a while back (which fucked severely btw like i looked Good with a mullet) he made a couple jokes about ‘ugly trans haircuts’

fourth, he has really bad dysphoria which isn’t an issue in and of itself, but if other trans people don’t have his level of dysphoria he often dismisses like. any dysphoria they have at all. he’s also said things about me ‘not trying to pass’ in the past as like. a way to imply my dysphoria doesn’t affect me? (i do genuinely try i’m just short and really feminine looking so i can’t pass even with a binder and masc clothes and shit)

all this made me uncomfortable and i distanced myself from him, which i don’t feel guilty about. but he’s closer to alex than he is to me, and i don’t know whether i would be justified in bringing these things up to alex. i don’t want to create drama or anything yk? so wibta?

Do you actually think Gerard wrote certain lyrics intentionally to be interpreted as queer? I feel like Gerard isn’t very aware of queer culture or partakes in it.

I know people consider Mcr some kinda queer icons but I honestly never see them being actually queer in any way. I’d say they even lean more into homophobia. Gerard’s literal thing with Bert was very weird for that reason too because at the time a lot of people made fun of gay men, especially rock guys, by acting like a “sissy”.

No, some of the time i dont think he writes with queer themes in mind (particularly in BP), this is why i frame it as “the queer interpretation” and mention the general (as in probably intended) interpretations. But an interpretation doesnt have to be intended to be read into a text. Sometimes the connections connect! Also who knows…

And. Gerard obviously partakes in queer culture lol… not even in a conspiracy way, just Literally, Verifiably. This is my whole thing. Even if he doesnt ID as queer, there’s all this engagement that makes queer study of him/his work worthwhile. and he very much did mature during the aids crisis, partially in new york. Not totally negligible

Like mentioned above, I am an artist. Main goal of this blog is to share my art with people. I've been an illustrator for about 12 years and i use Clip Studio Paint on Ipad right now. I generally draw my own original characters, mainly Damien (tall one).

I also like Genshin Impact and my favourite characters are Neuvillette and Baizhu.

 ♪  i. ABOUT ME ... hello! i'm henry (it/he), and i'm the guy who runs the blog and also am the host of the system. we don't have time to get into all that, though.

i'm primarily an artist, but i also occasionally mess around with text posts and edits, and i write on the side. it's gonna be a mixed bag with my content, so be ready!

Workin on art at 5:30am and watching Vendetta, so to procrastinate even longer, here is:

Resident Evil Vendetta: Why Leon and Rebecca’s Positions Should Have Been Swapped

• Rebecca is not a damsel in distress please stop doing this to RE women (female characters in general, hate to be that guy), let Rebecca be the prodigious badass tyrant slayer she has been since day fucking one

• Leon’s entire arc would be improved in the way Chris’ sort of was if he was kidnapped and had time to think about who he is and why he’s come as far as he has, as well as accepting that he can’t always be the dashing hero and that sometimes he needs help too

• We could FINALLY re-explore the dynamic between Chris and Rebecca!! Don’t get me wrong, I love the relationship between Chris and Leon I love the part where they said “it’s gay sex Thursday” and then started making out on the chopper, but cmon. These were the ORIGINAL guys, the goobers, the oomfies, they were partners then and they could have been again

• We might have had more of a chance to catch up with what Rebecca has been doing all this time, we haven’t seen her since 0, or the stage play if you’re insane like I am, and I feel like we deserved to see her in action. It’s totally in line with her character to take more of a backseat to the action, having more of an interest in the science and medical aspects, that’s all good, but she’s still trained in combat and marksmanship. Can you imagine a scene of Rebecca showing off her skills, especially to Leon? Dude that would rock so unbelievably hard cmon.

• Chris has this continued theme in his life of losing people close to him and it reflects in the way he treats his partners/teams. This is just a flaw with the movie in general (which I continue to enjoy despite its. Yknow. Everything~), but we never got to see much of that. Obviously that whole theme was generally resolved in 5 and then continued into 6, but I feel like whether it’s Leon or Rebecca, Chris should have been, like. Way more freaked about it? Staying professional and all, but Jesus Christ man, you’re gonna exchange one liners and cool gun slow-no scenes with MCR over here in the hallway while you have less than 20 minutes to both SAVE and CURE someone who has been by your side for upwards of 20 years whom you have befriended and relied on numerous times??? Whatever! Whatever!

• Arias should have had a MUCH higher interest in obtaining Leon if he wanted his revenge plan work out. He’s already a suuuuper iffy character, I too would be mad if the government dropped a bomb on my wedding and killed almost everyone I held dear, but also I didn’t do arms dealing and bioterrorism so. Maybe reflect on that man. But anyway, the A-Virus already has a lot in common with the Plaga. Arias ABSOLUTELY could improve this connection via a sample of Leon’s blood and an examination of whatever’s left in his nervous system; if done right, this could have handled the virus nearly unstoppable. But instead, he opted to, uh…steal a woman that looks like his wife? Yeah, her blood with the antibodies made the virus stronger, but he had NO IDEA OF THAT. He totally lucked out there. Now, information about the Plaga would be easily attainable for a man of Arias’ profession and status among the underworld of crime or whatever, all that shit, and Leon’s name would absolutely be among that information. It’s just so much more convenient? Makes so much more sense?? Literally aids his evil plan???

I’m sure there’s more reasons I’m forgetting because the amount of times I’ve ranted about this is ridiculous, but like. Cmon cmon cmon I beg

Why is it that the two recently-released live action adaptations of kids media both decided not just to water down the character (yikes) but also to remove anything “offensive” or “triggering”?

Gabe Ugliano is supposed to be an upsetting character, and then— as far as his portrayal goes, he’s just kinda unlikeable instead of despicable. It wasn’t like he was written as abusive for no reason. It’s not narratively satisfying to see a character get his comeuppance if he’s really only been mildly unlikeable.

Like yes, it’d be upsetting to see. Sometimes, media has parts that are upsetting. It’s supposed to. You can’t write a meaningful story if you’re tiptoeing over upsetting people. It’d be hard to watch, but also, a lot of people like seeing media they can relate to even if it’s an ugly situation. They can find comfort in it.

Don’t even get me started on Annabeth— I think the direction they took the character was a bad choice, because people were already upset at their choice of actress and now the way they chose to write Annabeth for the live-action is going to reflect badly on her, which isn’t fair. Why would they do that?

And the live action ATLA… I guess when they heard Katara was a waterbender they thought that meant they had to water her down until she’s an empty slate. I just finished the second episode, and already they’ve taken out anything and everything interesting about Katara.

My sister and I couldn’t stop laughing in the first episode when Gran Gran was explaining to Aang that his people were dead. She sounded like she was going on a villain monologue, which was… certainly a choice. “Everyone knows the airbenders are dead. But you… you don’t know that, do you? Fucking idiot.”

Surely there’s a better way to explain to this 12-year-old that all his people are dead, hmm? That everyone he ever knew is gone?

It’s an especially weird choice that they seem to both want to show the darker sides of the war— opening on the Air Nomad genocide, and showing Katara seeing her mom’s murder— but erase the fact that the Southern water tribe didn’t have any waterbending scrolls, because their culture was stolen and destroyed. For what? So they could make Katara a natural prodigy, and erase the fact that it didn’t come easy to her? That she worked for it, had to fight Pakku to even teach her?

It was, uh, also an interesting choice to decide that without the presence of sexism and Sokka’s sexist attitude, that the solo trait Suki is allowed to have is… horny? Suki and Sokka can be straight up lustful, but Katara and Aang can’t even have a meaningful platonic/and or budding crush bond.

I think the actors did really good, though— Sokka’s actor especially, but that could also just be that the script and director wouldn’t let anyone else use their acting capabilities. I think Zuko’s actor could easily nail the role if they let him— he even kinda sounds like Zuko. But for some reason instead of an angry, traumatized teenage boy they decided that this Zuko— this Zuko is a wet cat, instead of an angry wet cat.

This Zuko is like, getting bullied for being gay. He writes poetry and listens to MCR. He’s kinda just whiny instead of shouty.

It’s kinda like they decided— actually, completely like they decided, that they had to make the characters more likeable by removing all of their flaws.

Sokka isn’t sexist. Aang didn’t actually run away (not that he was wrong for that), Katara isn’t allowed to have a personality the same way she wasn’t allowed to exist, courtesy of Mattel.

Iroh is also… really helpful to Zuko’s quest. It kinda seem like he was somewhat sabotaging it in the original show, but in this one he’s straight up guiding him right to the Avatar. He’s helpful.

And again— a lot of these changes, and the cheesy dialogue, is going to end up reflecting badly on the actors when it should be on the writers + directors.

I understand changing things up a little. I do not understand changing things that didn’t need to be changed— are you so short on time that you can’t keep the reason they’re going to the North Pole as literally the most obvious reason— because Aang needs to learn waterbending and so does Katara? Now it just seems like the characters aren’t smart enough to think of that.

I guess they did make it so that Aang only found out he was the Avatar like 3 hours before all the airbenders were killed, so no one told him what order he was supposed to learn them in. They didn’t even tell him how they knew it was him, with the toys and all. No time for that, but time to work in Kyoshi’s backstory real quick and write in Suki’s mom.

You would think they would’ve erred on the side of caution and tried to stick to the original script a little more, given that ATLA already has a famously bad live action movie, and PJO has two. The stakes were already high. Slightly better than terrible is not the ideal outcome of an adaption.
