"We all have our reasons." The Tusk sat on the ground, leaning against a tree, while he held a fishing rod in one hand. Behind him, a makeshift tent was spanned and a fireplace had been built, though no fire was burning.

“And what is your reason to be out here alone?” It had been coincidence that the Bristleback had stumbled upon Ymir. He hadn’t been looking for him, not yet anyway, though he had been puzzled when the Tusk hadn’t entered the bar they had met in during the last evenings.

“I like the quiet.” Especially compared to the sound level of a bar, this place was deadly silent. It wasn’t, there were animals, there was the wind and the water. But it was nothing like a room crowded with all kinds of creatures, all of them drunk.

“Isn’t it lonely?” The Bristleback decided to stay for a while, since the Tusk didn’t appear to leave his spot anytime soon. He sat down and stretched his legs out in front of him.

They both stared above the water of the small lake.

“Rigwarl, what do you want?” Ymir asked after a few minutes.

The Bristleback shrugged. “To keep you company.”

“Why?”

It wasn’t his intention to tell the truth, but the words were out of his mouth before he could stop them: “It is awfully boring in the bar without you.”

The Tusk laughed, the sound way too loud in this place. Then he reeled the fishing line in and turned towards the Bristleback. “Really? One evening without a fight and you are already bored?”

Another shrug. “What can I say, I like fighting. And against you at least it is a challenge.”

“Thank you for the compliment. I’ll be back tomorrow, today I will enjoy the quiet of this place.” Ymir hesitated, but then he continued. “You are welcome to stay but I won’t fight with you, so it might be even more boring than the bar.”

Now that he was here, Rigwarl thought he didn’t necessarily need a fight. Maybe it hadn’t been boredom that had made him leave the bar when Ymir hadn’t shown up, at least not only. That was a truth he wouldn’t admit, though. Instead he frowned. “I think I’ll survive one evening without a fight. For once.”

Ymir’s low chuckle rumbled in his chest. Then he gave Rigwarl the fishing rod. “Here, try to catch a fish so we have something to eat. I haven’t been lucky so far.”

Rigwarl had never held a fishing rod before and Ymir was clearly amused by that. Then he showed him what to do. It was the first time since the two had known each other that they were not fighting. The first time they talked instead of throwing insults back and forth. It was still a bit boring, nothing was better than a fight against a worthy opponent, but it wasn’t too bad, either. Especially when he caught a fish and Ymir grinned. The Tusk reached out as if to clap him on the back, then pulled his hand away.

“Bad idea,” he laughed. “I’ll only impale my hand on one of your spikes. I know how that feels.”

Rigwarl laughed as well. Yes, they were familiar with each other in that regard.

also. bc like three of my irl friends have asked me about it: i haven't listened to the new f.o.b. album and won't be listening to it until my life chills out a bit bc i don't want to ruin it for myself by forever associating it with the shitshow that my life has been lately.

on my second watch of the new hbomberguy video (I was not totally sober when I watched it last night) and I just remembered where I know James Somerton from. A few months ago I ended a friendship because she kept talking about how excited she was to play the hp game, and at first she genuinely didn't know how bad r*wling was, but even after I explained and sent tons of resources so she could see for herself, she still eventually said something along the lines of "oh well, I still don't think it's bad enough to stop me from buying the game". Then she sent me James Somerton's video about why he was still going to buy and play the game and said "His thoughts are basically mine". I had never watched his videos, but I was immediately suspicious of him for being able to lay out the clear transphobia and antisemitism but still justify purchasing the game. And now, I guess we know that his thoughts weren't even his. And no wonder he was fine still giving r*wling money, he's also fine misgendering trans people if it means he can be more misogynistic

EDIT: so i decided to fact-check myself since it's been several months since that conversation, but he does say he "probably" won't spend more money on the franchise even though he totally understands and supports people who want to.

And in a turn of events shocking no one, aside from that conclusion that he thinks it's fine to still support hp, the vast majority of that same video was also plagiarized:

EDIT 2: I've seen some people in the notes saying he even plagiarized the transphobia, so I'm going to clarify this. Most of the video was about all of the transphobic, antisemitic, or otherwise awful shit r*wling has done. That is the content that Somerton seems to have plagiarized from Katelyn Burns.

The only part of the video that doesn't appear to have been stolen is the conclusion, which is where he said it's understandable and fine for people to still financially support the franchise. So he did not plagiarize the transphobia, he plagiarized the proof of transphobia and then added in his opinion that it's still cool to give your money to transphobes if not doing that makes you sad

as we enter the start of a semester and the dreaded Hour of Making Friends us upon us... if ur ever at a loss for what to say in one of those weird social situations where you only vaguely-know people, one of my favorite questions to ask is "what is your favorite food crime." a food crime is like the food combination that you love that other people find revolting. press them to take it further than pineapple on pizza, that's rote. food crimes is a good topic that has many benefits as it turns out all people are degenerates and also it will give you some cool ideas to try out later in the privacy of your own degenerate kitchen

the other good thing to ask is "okay but has anyone here ever been someplace haunted" bc it turns out if you ask most people directly they don't believe in ghosts, but many people are like "oh yeah i lived in a haunted house. ghosts aren't real tho"

can i just say. and this is probably a niche hill to die on. that i am so gobsmacked every time someone vaguely hints at the idea that jotaro doesn't care meaningfully for the other crusaders, usually particularly kakyoin and joseph, when those two actually tend to be the ones he reacts to being hurt the hardest

(Some silly headcanons about Mortalitasi and Nevarran traditions that ended up leading me to Emmrich. How typical.)

We don't actually know all that much about Nevarra and their customs. World of Thedas and some of the in-game codex tells us some key points: strong royal families, a rich history of dragon hunting, an elite group of mages rumored to be heavily involved in makings of the country, and, of course, the thing that this country is most famous for - the fascination with the dead.

Our very own Nevarran companion mentions a couple of things about her home country:

And even though she doesn't seem fond of Mortalitasi practices or Nevarran customs surrounding the dead, she admits that some stories that pervade the South are greatly exaggerated:

This makes me think that this interest in the dead is still a personal choice. I doubt that an average Nevarran is obsessed with those rituals any more than an average person from Ferelden is with theirs - those are just a part of their traditions that obviously affect their lives in unique ways, but that is all.

Now, Nevarran nobility are a different matter. They are said to start the construction of their tombs very early in life - lavishly decorated palaces with gardens, ballrooms and bathhouses. A sign of power and wealth for them, and that I can believe.

But when it comes to Mortalitasi, do they, in general, care as much? Do they take all these things, all these rituals, to extreme somehow, professional pride and all?

How much would a Mortalitasi care about their own tomb? Would Mortalitasi friends and colleagues ever promise to lead the other's ceremony depending on who dies first? "Oh, I'll totally mummify you if you're the one to go first, don't you worry, I know you think that Markus is getting sloppy".

The coffin sharing is also not unheard of (the spouses from The Flame Eternal), and I wonder if it's ever used as a grand gesture - to ask someone to be placed in the same tomb?

(And just imagine how messy this could get, the way people are. Building a tomb together only to have a falling out, what are you even supposed to do after that?)

Would it be romantic then, to tell your significant other that you don't want to ever part from them, even in death?

Beacause imagine Emmrich writing a quick letter to his friend from the Mourn Watch (Johanna, if they are still friends after all these years, or Myrna), "doing fine, on a saving the world business trip, will be back when I can; could I trouble you with a favor - a bigger coffin, installed in my tomb, not urgent, just whenever you have the time."

When the reply comes and his friend is (obviously) asking for a reason for such a sudden change, he just looks at Rook from the corner of his eye and replies with "no particular reason, just felt like it."
