i’ve been truly gobsmacked one single time in my entire life and it was during a conversation i had with my therapist dalton about three months after i started seeing him. it went something like this:
dalton: you’d mentioned going to therapy multiple times before, what were those experiences like?
me: *tells him about experiences*
dalton: so all of your past therapists with the exception of one have been men, correct?
me: uh yeah, i guess so.
dalton: was that coincidence or do you prefer speaking with men?
me: i guess i just feel more comfortable talking to a man.
dalton: do you think there’s a reason?
me: i don’t know, i’ve never put much thought into it honestly.
dalton: based on what you’ve told me in prior sessions, do you think it has anything to do with your father being absent both emotionally and physically?
me: uh
dalton: the only reason i ask is because you say you’re indifferent to his indifference as he’s always been unreliable and you’re “used to it.” but do you realize when you’ve talked about your struggles with seeking external validation in wanting people to be proud of you, the people in question are almost exclusively older men who are some kind of authority figure to you? and based on what you’ve told me about your childhood, you didn’t really get the validation and connection you wanted from your father, which is part of why you seek it elsewhere. and while that makes sense, i want to make sure you understand it’s okay if him not doing what a father should do still hurts you, even if though you think it shouldn’t hurt anymore because you’ve been living with his disappointment for the past twenty or so years. it doesn’t matter how old a wound is, sometimes they still hurt.
me: uhh
dalton: anyway, back to my question. do you think it has anything to do with that or do you just feel more comfortable being vulnerable with men?
me: uhhh
dalton: take your time. you don’t have to have an answer right now. just something to maybe think about. now, let’s talk about the dead brother thing.

"hey, yo... if i make this shot... you gotta go out with me, alright?"
mark smiles at you brighter than any star in the sky as he continues to bounce the basketball. it's just the two of you now--the rest of your friends have gone their separate ways. it feels like nights always end with just you and mark nowadays. not that you're complaining: you adore the guy. you just smile at first, knowing that you'd say yes regardless of this silly deal (and the twinkle in mark's eyes tells you that he knows this, too: he just needs to show off).
"alright," you say, hands tucked into your hoodie pocket. "go for it."
he swells a little with pride before he takes the shot... and immediately misses. his smile falls into genuine, unabashed shock as he turns to you. you're already cackling, turning to run after the ball before it can get too far away.
"yo, i practiced! i literally practiced and got it--the guys can tell you! i'm good at this, i swear--"
you calm down, smiling at him as you hold the ball in your hands. "okay. so if i make this... you gotta go on a date with me."
mark smiles wide, so cutely flustered but he nods. "alright. bet."
you line up the shot, taking a deep breath. after a moment, you throw the ball through the air, watching as it just barely bounces off the rim. it sends mark into endless cackles, and you immediately rush toward him, burying your face in his jacket as you laugh.
"oh my god," he gasps out between cackles, arms wrapping around you. "i wish i got that on camera." he squeezes you tighter. "alrightalrightalright," he says too many times, blending together as he draws back from you just enough to see your face. "c'mon. i'll buy food."
(donghyuck later reports to the group chat that both of you are indeed idiots, having heard the story from mark... but at least you're idiots together now.)

The chat Phil had with the kids today was so important and good for them but I still feel like Chayanne seems himself as a martyr for the sake for others and its killing me. "If it is me.. okay but do not ever hurt Lullah again" was agonizing to read. Like king no you both have equal value that's still not ok to think...

the way mania haters talk about mania is so funny they're like "this album almost KILLED fall out boy's CAREER this album lost them SO MUCH MONEY mania FLOPPED everyone HATED it" they talk about it like fob had to sell their kidneys to keep touring on the thing. like. mania? the album that debuted at number one? the album with last of the real ones on it, the song that fans loved so much that they got it certified gold despite the label doing absolutely nothing to support it or push it for radio in the slightest? the album that got fall out boy a grammy nomination? that album? you can call it polarizing if you want but you can't say it didn't do a hell of a lot for an album that had a first single with such an eclectic reception

Hihi! Do you have any Missouri design? I just think his scarf is very cute and he is very silly!! Or maybe some Kentucky, if you have the chance? She's one of my girls, very tomboyish, but I'd love to see your interpretation >:]
I hope your wrist gets better soon! Make sure to rest often. It's good for you ‼️

I've seen your tomboyish Kentucky yes!! My gf was a big fan of it tbh so you've got my approval 😼 I've been trying to make a Missouri design for a long long while but nothing really came to mind 😔 but @halcyonlauren helped me quite a bit with forming some ideas for him!! So enjoy, Missouri fans 🐶 I forgot the scarf tbh so apologies for that

Marisha's comment about how Relvin is one of those parents who ended up with a child they didn't know what to do with really gets to the heart of it, i think, and is such a good way to tie the fantasy element of Imogen's powers into things more tangible. because there are really a lot of parents like Relvin in real life, who have a child with the person they're happily married to and never expect to be left alone with the kid. or who expect a ""normal"" (read: cisgender and heterosexual, able-bodied, relatively neurotypical and obedient, etc.) child and end up with one who's ""difficult"", who demands more or different of them than what they believe they signed up for. and that's not entirely entitlement on a parent's part- many cultures' common frameworks of parenthood and child-rearing do not include space for these children. it makes sense that Relvin was unprepared. raising any child is difficult, and raising a child whose needs you were never taught how to accommodate, who the world is so cruel to, is even more challenging.
and yet. and yet, the person who bears the brunt of the harm in these situations will always be the child. they're the ones who have to live every moment of how the world treats them, without the support that their parent is supposed to provide them. and when asked to care for his child even when she turned out to be ""difficult"", Relvin couldn't. for entirely sympathetic reasons, of course. he tried, in his own way. i don't think he's a bad guy. but he's let his own broken heart bleed onto his daughter. he hasn't been able to give her much else.
